(chaotic one bc I only have to share my new discovery)

Today years old when I found out about the existence of 'Link Click Musical highlights' vlog series. And I'm going insane over it (esp the first gif). I haven't watched them all, bc I'm too excided to share it asap.

So I was looking through Wu Hanglu's weibo and saw she shared the vlog she did for the musical...

You can find it all on Encore Musicals weibo. It has around 6 parts, each is hosted by different Qiao Ling's actress. They have chinese subs, but even if you don't know the language there are still very fun ^^ Firstly, bc we can see all the actors rehearsing together!

Idk why I really wanted to see them all in the same room, so I'm having a field day seeing all Xiaoshis learning choreo, all Qiao Lings chatting at once or like Zhu Hanbin (LG) doing the floss dance with Teng Chunpeng and Ding Xingchen (CXS) in the background.

Other fun thing I've noticed is that the cast was using Link Click artbook as a reference (for eg. there's a clip where QL actress is doing all Qiao Ling's expressions from her reference sheet in a book). They have the book and other official stuff available on set. Imo it's v neat 🌟

OH! And how could I forget! You can sometimes hear instrumental versions of the songs in the background. The non-encore songs we don't get to hear. Crumbs Ik, but heyy it's better than nothing ✨

Just Liu Muzhi Things

Liu Muzhi made sure to report everything he saw or heard to Liu Yu, no matter how great or insignificant; even mutterings in the back alleys of the cities or trifling incidents in the countryside made their way back to Liu Yu. And when Liu Yu showed off his intelligence and wisdom by reporting on what was going on among the common people, it was always thanks to Liu Muzhi's information. Liu Muzhi also loved to host guests and travelers, and his house was constantly filled with guests. Nor did his eyes or ears fail to pick up on anything that was said or done, and there was no dissent either within the court or out in the state that he did not learn about. He even reported the shortcomings of his closest friends; nothing was held back. Some people criticized him for this, but Liu Muzhi told them, "Lord Liu is perceptive, and he would learn all of these things on his own sooner or later. Besides, I have received his grace, so it is just that I not conceal any faults. Even Zhang Liao reported to Cao Cao when Guan Yu wished to leave him."

Whenever Liu Yu was acting to display his authority, Liu Muzhi always supervised and regulated him. When Liu Yu kept sending out sloppy letters, Liu Muzhi told him, "Although these are minor matters, your letters are going out to every corner of the realm. I implore you to give them some more thought." Liu Yu also had trouble expressing himself in his writing, thanks to his natural endowments. Liu Muzhi advised him, "You ought to let yourself write larger characters; it won't be an issue even if they're as large as a chi. You'll be better able to express your ideas that way, and your writing will look nicer as well." Liu Yu followed his advice, and every page he wrote contained no more than six or seven characters.

Liu Muzhi was constantly recommending people. He often said, "Though I may not be a match for Commissioner Xun (Xun Yu) when it comes to recommending good people, at least I do not recommend anyone bad."

Both Liu Muzhi and Zhu Lingshi worked on Liu Yu's correspondence together. On one occasion, Liu Yu sat with them as they worked on answering his letters. They worked from dawn until noon; by then, Liu Muzhi had answered a hundred letters while Zhu Lingshi had answered eighty, yet Liu Muzhi had made no mistakes in his responses.

Ah I see, that makes sense. Never thought about it that way but now that you mention it he was the last one to die from the big 5. It'd be interesting to see DW make use of that. Speaking of Zhang He, there's a certain theory out there that says Sima Yi forced Zhang He to charge out to fight Shu even though Zhang said it wasn't a wise thing to do and basically got him killed on purpose to get rid of Wei loyalists who would get in the way of the Jin dynasty's formation. Do you think it's true?

What I’ll say is that it’s not some kind of brand new modern theory. At the end of the Jin, a minister named Wang Hong, who would soon be one of Liu Yu’s top advisors during the Liu-Song, fake-comforted some kid over the death of Liu Yu’s Old General Deputy-type guy Liu Muzhi (suicide, actually, because he figured out that Liu Yu was going to try to usurp the throne), saying something along the lines of “Back in the day, the Wei dynasty relied heavily upon Zhang He, they couldn’t go a day without his advice. When Zhang He died, what became of the Wei dynasty?” And everyone laughed and it made the kid upset so he dismissed everyone from the court. About a year later Liu Yu usurped the throne. It’s in the Nanshi:

南史:【新校本南史·卷十九】孟顗(Hapless Jin Guy)，字彦重，平昌安丘人，卫将军昶(Tragic-ish Jin General)弟也。昶、顗并美风姿，时人谓之双珠 [lol]。昶贵盛，顗不就辟。昶死后，顗历侍中、仆射、太子詹事、散骑常侍、左光禄大夫。尝就徐羡之，因叙关、洛中事，顗叹刘穆之终后便无继者，王弘亦在，甚不平，曰：“昔魏朝酷重张郃，谓不可一日无之。及郃死，何关兴废？”[孟]顗不悦，众宾笑而释之。后卒于会稽太守。

So that’s about 150 years after Zhang He died they were already talking about the idea that his death was somehow connected to the Sima’s usurpation of the throne.

As for a direct response to his death being a Wei vs Jin theory, I say nah. Zhang He was probably pushing 70 at that point, and even though Sima Yi has this reputation as a long-game schemer, I don't think that Sima Yi had the idea of a new dynasty in mind. Though, it is worth noting that the SGZ does point out that Zhang He's influence in Cao Rui's court went at least a little beyond military matters.

HOWEVER personally I think it would be insulting to Sima Yi’s intelligence to think it was just a really stupid mistake. I mean obviously I’m not sure of anything … but if you want my hot take, it would be that Cao Zhen died suddenly, Sima Yi was put in charge suddenly, subsequently made a series of strategic errors that Zhang He, who had been doing this thing for 50 years, had correctly called; Sima Yi was probably worried that Zhang He would replace him as Da Sima, which would simply diminish Sima Yi’s influence, Plotting To Take Over Wei or not. The way the ZZTJ describes those exchanges has kind of a tense vibe to it. I've heard some people argue that the way Zhang He's SGZ bio is written, despite its length, is a little terse.

Finally caught up 🙏🎉 (not for long ;w;)

April 6th, noon: Cai Qi, Guo Hongxu, Zuo Yiping

Their first time performing in LC together (though I'm pretty sure they already knew each other from other shared plays, like 白夜追凶). They fit together pretty well imo. Cai Qi managed to make 'The Poker Face' Guo Hongxu break character and laugh during 'You can forget about it'. Just by closely staring at him ><

For once cq plays rock paper scissors normally, but cheats on the last hand >< They just stand there, paper vs paper, and slap their hands (though I wish I knew what ghx says in the end bc it makes audience and cq laugh)

April 6th, night: Cao Muzhi, Wu Yihan, Feng Xinyao

There weren't many clips from that performance, but from pictures I've gathered

Wu Yihan simply leaned in to say something to Cao Muzhi but the photographers run with it (understandable).

For 'You can forget about it' wyh took a sip of... audience said it's vinegar. (culinary tangent ahead)

Most probably it's black rice vinegar (correct me if not) according to wikipedia '½ tablespoon of Western distilled white vinegar is stated to be equivalent in strength to 1 tablespoon Chinkiang vinegar'. So it's more delicate? Which explains why they are able to drink it without flinching and sing afterwards. Idk about you guys, but vinegars we use in Poland (apple cider vinegar or vine one) are absolutely vile to smell, moreso drink. So it bothered me so much that the actors just casually drink it during encore and don't choke >< (tangent over)

Beginning of April summary, part 1

(Cao Muzhi's sillies and Wang Minhui's stage door talk)

Performances went on till April 6th and they resume on April 12th, so now we have time to catch up 🌟 I'll cover April 4th here ^^

The leaf stamp is to mark Qingming Festival. It's a period when people visit the graves and honour their ancestors.

@chocolatexiaoshi explained to me that, since it's a holiday, the theatre schedule was adjusted to hold 2 performances a day (like on the weekends). So the stamp doesn't mean any special events >< it's just to remind the audience about a different schedule.

By the end of first half of 'Pursuers of light' Cai Qi messed up the lyrics making Wang Minhui fall to his knees and laugh (classic wmh).

'a fan said: you and CaiQi are very familiar with each other, so you guys will have more feeling of cp (cooperation?). I watched the play for the first time and have a feeling that cxs and lg are really like a married couple. wmh:😳😳😳 (he shies away in an instant) then he shared with audiences how to cooperate with each partner seriously' (timestamp around 4:00)

He also talked on how he addresses his CXS's actor partners

'BaiZhuoming: 白老师 - like Mr Bai, seems not familiar and wmh wants to perform more with him and become more familiar.

TengChunpeng: 滕哥 - like brother Teng (哥means big brother), to become more familiar.

ShuRongbo: 波波 - Bobo, 'oh I know srb is the cutest boy' (🥺Bobo is his nickname and his weibo username).

CaiQi: too familiar, just calls his name directly.'

Here Wu Hanglu looks like a kindergartener that's about to tell you a smart thing she's learned from a science documentary. I love her sm 💕

March 30th: Wang Yifei, Zhu Hanbin, Qian Anqi

I swear, me and Sael are on a lookout for a video of this moment, but there's nothing atp T^T I'll keep looking bc we all need it ✊

I'm so glad he keeps putting on the glasses 👌✨and that he came up with that touch on a cheek gesture ;w; and that he sometimes dodges Wang Yifei's arms wide open hug >< thank you Zhu Hanbin 💙 orz

*I'm not sure which day it was, but once, during the rock, paper, scissors quarrel, Wang Yifei gets his revenge and slaps LG's butt (usually Zhu Hanbin does it to him ><")

51. 28/02/2024, Happy BDay Guo Hongxu! I don't usually upload promovid but uhh he's so cool in this one so, here. Sidenote, Shu Rongbo is very hyper and cute this performance. And Qian Anqi's cute english plss i love her.

52. 03/03/2024 night, Happy BDay Zuo Yiping! Watch also, Cao Muzhi penguin walk across the table, Wu Yihan please watch your steps and don't poke other people's cake!!

(funny coincidence, I happen to watch a Santa Lucia/Mio Fratello clip of Cao Muzhi-Wu Yihan just a couple days before this)

53. 10/03/2024 night, Happy Bday Shu Rongbo and Wu Yihan!! Hehe the way Qian Anqi knocks their heads together and insisted to sing them happy birthday is so cute. Wu Yihan said 'Happy Birthday' before their customary Guiding Light hug. And pls someone translate (or at least transcribed) the closing speech for me, there's a lot of laughing involved, I'm curious. Also, have this bonus stage door clip.

Some funfacts. Since last year they play in the same 4 musicals including Link Click and out of those 4 plays they shared 2 roles. Shu Rongbo played a total of 9 roles while Wu Yihan played 7. (Yes, I am at that level of hyperfixation)

54. 11/03/2024, HBD Teng Chunpeng! LMAO It's you, so of course your promo video would be great! His face during the sofa choreo though. And why are both him and Du Guangyi stomping and jumping on the table so hard. You menaces, please you're gonna break it. The couch trio is also looking cute behind them.

Moving on from the birthdays starting with this special one,

55. 11/03/2024 Valentine's day special, <- Official ver. Forgive my language TENG CHUNPENG DU GUANGYI YOU FCKING TEASE! YOU GEM OF A HUMAN BEING! Have this fancam with the superior angle.

(This makes Du Guangyi the first and only actor who have played all 3 roles in that scene. Congrats!)

56. Special Encore rehearsals/BTS! Special mentions to Teng Chunpeng's fashion sense, Wu Yihan's cute act, Ding Xingchen's falling wig, Zhang Jiahao's IDGAF mood, and Wang Minhui's violent tendencies.

57. 26/02/2024, when I say Cai Qi and Wang Minhui have the best dynamic, this is what I meant.

58. 29/02/2024, watch Ji Xiaokun and Guo Hongxu's "Oi!" "Oi."

59. 01/03/2024, Look at them stumbling through singing "Guiding Light" and it's a Wu Yihan-Shu Rongbo duo which means hug! Also Wu Yihan, why are you a menace at holding hands, this time with Zou Ziyue.

60. 03/03/2024 day, why is there a piglet??? Why are you seasoning the piglet??? Why are you stepping on the piglet?? Why is the piglet bowing?? piglet??

61. 04/03/2024, Bai Zhuoming being extra sassy and playful on the couch makes me so happy. Of course Cai Lu also becomes playful in response. Typical Guiding Light mistake also causes Wang Minhui to crack.

62. 07/03/2024, Guo Hongxu putting up the wrong foot and stumbling on the sofa choreo.

63. 07/03/2024, same performance as above, Ji Xiaokun being annoying <3. When other pairs hug, they wrestle.

64. 10/03/2024 day, Mooom! Cai Qi and Wang Minhui are fighting instead of doing rock-paper-scissors again.

65. 09/03/2024 day, uuuhh Wu Yihan sitting on the counter like that with those lights and shadows during Guiding Light is creepy.

66. 09/03/20204 night, love me some Du Guangyi shenanigans, the way he just gives up on the handshake and walk off the table plss and him teasing Deng Xianling during the closing speech. Speaking of, she brings out the bat and forces their arms to form the heart. Then there's Bai Zhuoming being cute and the little shimmy dance he does.

67. 09/03/2024 night, bonus to the one above. Du Guangyi last minute adlib was unexpected but very enjoyable. Also, I love the contrast between his and Bai Zhuoming's tutting.

That's all for now!

Bonus clip with Bai Zhuoming! The song "Number 7" from "Fan Letter" musical is really good, I'm obssesed. But special performance where they're joined by their alternate cast? And his alternate cast is, Shu Rongbo? Even better!! They're kinda in their own world too. Here's a close up. Their voices go so well together!

(I swear they're playing something on that paper, and that makes it 3 musicals I know where they share the same role. Is it time I made a venn diagram?)

I've accumulated a bunch of vaguely LC musical related photos posted by the cast. The actors perform together in different musicals ('Shanghai musicals multiverse') that's why you may recognise them from lc stage but they'll be wearing different costumes. What I'm saying is Brothers Karamazov is the link between Link Click musicals, with two Cheng Xiaoshis and one Lu Guang >< And I think it's just neat that they know each other and have a history of working together ^^

*Brothers Karamazov's plot is very accessible to grasp bc it's based on a famous russian novel by Dostoyevsky that's why I know about it. Also bc it's dramatic and sad af and the actors look gorgeous so I just had to learn more ><'
