Canto I Dungeon Boss

Last time I wrote an observation log, I was a kid, so I'm not sure if I'm up to this, but... I guess orders are orders. So, uhh... Start with describing its appearance? Hm, alright. That was an apple. A huge grotesque apple with limbs. Personally speaking, doesn't it freak you out when a food item gets all massive or starts walking on its own? Is it just me? I went off-topic there. Anyway, that apple was golden. Definitely not something out of your average orchard. Mmm, right. It's what you call an Abnormality, yeah? Then yeah, that apple Abnormality was strutting all by itself. So I... I was getting a growing urge to chop that apple. It was almost magnetic. Hard to explain. ...Well, you won't find a lot of people who hate apples as much as I do. I guess that's on my unusual past. We decided to fall back for now since we had too little intel to try and fight. We'll probably take it on at some point, so I'll write down more when that time comes.

Man, that was tiring. It kept healing itself or whatever, it just wouldn't fall after we sliced, tore, smashed, and did all kinds of damage to it. Fighting it was pretty simple... Well, it's not like all of us got out unscathed, though. What it does it run into us for a body slam. Not too hard to deal with once you're used to it. I think I get its schtick after fighting it a few times. You see, it's got a golden aura floating around it, yeah? But the aura was gone after the apple recovered several times. Maybe that's the threshold of regeneration. I'll let manager bug know about this. It might be what helps end this tedious struggle.

... [What appears to be foul words are scribbled out.] This is why you put me in charge of the observation? Did you know this crap would happen and... Yeah, no. There's no way you could have... None of us could, this was our first time. Gah... When I blew that golden apple up, it split open. Then some [What appears to be foul words are scribbled out.]ed branches popped out of the crack, and... That thing, that bastard... It took Yuri... And with that new nutrient, a swarm of maggots piled up inside... "Metamorphosing" into a hideous face. Haha, funny, isn't it. I was feeling a sense of kinship with that crawler. I guess it's because we were both pests... Realizing that, I just couldn't stay calm. I had to tear that detestable face apart to find peace. And then, and then...
>Gregor was struggling to maintain his cool in his writing, so I relieved him of his pen. He didn't have much else to offer in terms of information, anyway.

"I'll go check it out!" Yuri said to the others. The Sinner with the bug's arm seems worried about this. Does he want to go with her, perhaps?

[Sinner] managed to escape, but it seems Yuri couldn't. The fruit's flesh melted to form a new body. Don't feel too guilty about it. One lost life is better than two.

[Sinner] was too occupied to notice it in time. They managed to get away but ended up injured. Yuri was even later to notice. The fruit's flesh had already melted with her to form a new body. It's unfortunate, but there's nothing we can do about it. One of our own got hurt, too.
[Sinner] loses 25 HP
All parts of Golden Apple gain 3 Damage Up for 2 turns.

I think the most fucked up part of Canto IV was when Dongrang killed Dongbaek and then the footage of her death was played back to the Tearful Thing. The way her death was just used to feed into the capitalist hell system, the way Dongrang just continued to disrespect her like that.

Tried attempting to fight Farmwatch Dongrang again after putting it down for several days and fuck me with a chainsaw the game crashed on me. Again.

one of my favorites of my canto VI theories i have classified under "no way is this going to happen" is that heathcliff and catherine are going to have a moment similar to kromer and sinclair where catherine sees the abusive rich guy version of heathcliff similar to him in the novel and wants heathcliff to become that – which he does, and becomes a co-final boss with catherine at the end of the dungeon similar to the black silence reception in ruina. this would make heathcliff's big canto ID be his "evil" self, someone else that world's catherine (probably ishmael), and sinclair that world's edgar.

Thoughts on Canto V
Spoilers ahead. Also, disclaimer that I did not play it but instead watched it because I really like the story but I don't play the game anymore. I do not think playing it through would have impacted my experience, but do keep that fact in mind and let me know if you think my feelings would change if I had played it.
OH MY FUCKING GOD I REALLY LIKED IT! The characters were solid (though there are some problems), the theme of hoping for the future and allowing yourself to discover it for yourself rather than holding onto the past, and there were some incredible fucking moments.
Firstly, Ishmael. She was pretty stellar throughout. Watching her slowly degrade into becoming a mirror of the very woman she sought to destroy was heartbreaking, I felt like she actually had a real arc this canto that helped her become a less burdened person, and some of her deepening bonds with the other sinners were awesome. I particularly liked watching her interactions with Outis because Moby Dick and the Odyssey/Illiad are the two literary works from Limbus that I know well, and based on that info it makes sense that they would both understand and annoy each other. The moments with Heathcliff were also incredible because they've always had a really cool dynamic. Ishmael's relationships with her crew were also interesting and I feel like that could have easily been the best part of this cant, but ultimately that didn't end up happening (more on that later). I felt like the sudden character development 'Oh the other characters are my friends and they are my compass' thing was a BIG JUMP especially for Ishmael, but it's not a bad idea. I think it just needed more time in the oven, let Ishmael interact with the other sinners inside the dungeon and have her work together with them to get through things. Fortunately, Ishmael's VA + the Mili song really carried that ending so I still wound up getting caught up in the moment regardless. Speaking of Ishmael's VA...HOLY SHIT WHATEVER THEY ARE GETTING PAID IT WAS NOT ENOUGH!! Singlehandedly made me like this Canto so much more than I otherwise would have. An incredible performance all around, stand out moments include but are not limited to: Her ranting at the pirates about them not knowing what shame is, the euphoric hatred in her voice as she fantasizes about finding and killing Ahab, the grief as she discusses Queequeg and the hope as she sees Queequeg again, and OF COURSE WHEN SHE GOES AHAB MODE! Bravo Jang Ye-na, you carried this Canto through its weaker moments and helped the best ones become my favorite moments in this game.
Next, Ahab. I liked her a lot, fucking awful captain woman who reminds me of my old pastors. GOOD JOB MAKING THIS A FUCKING HORROR GAME THIS BITCH SCARES ME! I wish we could have seen more of her (and maybe we will in the future) because what we got was incredible. I was expecting a shitty boss but instead got another fucking cult leader. Her design is also a solid mirror to Ishmael's, further emphasizing the point that they are becoming more alike as this stuff goes on AND making the moment where Ishmael breaks the cycle of hatred more impactful. She is an incredible mirror of what happens where you allow hatred to consume you entirely, and the VA really reflects that. The only complaint I kinda have is that she probably should have been a lot more morally grey than she was. I feel like we just kinda got Kromer version 2 in terms of the role she played in the story and in Ishmael's life, granted that might change in the future so I will be very happy to be wrong if that's the case. But after Dongrang, I was expecting something a little more sympathetic or at least nuanced than 'evil cult leader captain lady hates that fucking whale and will kill her crew and makes that abundantly clear'. Again, I do like what we got so I can't complain too much but still.
I LOVE THAT BIG FUCKING WHALE! SCARY FUCKING BIG WHALE COMETH! ELDRITCH WHALE!
The Indigo Elder is so fucking cool. I wish he were here for more than 3 minutes and actually had something to do. They really introduced a man by having him tear the arm off the guy who we were struggling to survive against, said he was a Color and that he killed another Calamity, teased this really cool plan, and then...he's just waiting outside presumably 1v1-ing the whale but we get to neither see nor hear about it at all. I hope he comes back and we can see him do cool shit, because we had an incredible set-up with mediocre pay-off.
Ishmael's crew...I loved them so much I wish they were in the Canto for more than 1 level. They should have been introduced MUCH EARLIER in order to have their deaths have more of an impact. We should have been in the whale for longer, even if it meant shortening other parts of the chapter, just for the crew. Because those are Ishmael's ties and these are the people who Ahab's hatred is robbing the world of. What we did get of them was very strong, but Starbuck and Pip got nothing in terms of character moment and time. Queequeg got a little bit more (by the way I love that Queequeg actually looked like the design team at least LOOKED at a Polynesian person, I'm so jaded from other gacha games that I'm thrilled somebody actually looks like they're from the culture they're inspired from. She looks like a buffer, female version of one of my Polynesian neighbors it's great.) and it made her feel a lot more developed. She was a solid adaptation of Queequeg and her relationship with Ishmael was so sweet. The moments we got of them together were some of the highlights and it made me really want them to manage to escape together. Of course that was never gonna happen, but still. I also don't like how we don't even see Queequeg and Starbuck die. Are we supposed to assume Ahab killed them to manifest the ego? Did we kill them? I see some criticism around the fact that they stood by Ahab's side at the end and wondering why they did that. And I get that criticism because it is weird, but also that's just kinda what cult leaders can do especially when they're the only reason you've been alive for however long + you're slowly being overtaken by BAD WHALE JUICE. I 100% buy that they chose to follow the Captain because the Captain is always right and even when She does horrible things Her understanding is elevated above ours. And if Her fight is our fight, then surely it is ok for us to die here.
I feel like this is also a criticism that only I care about but why is the story suddenly like 'oh revenge is bad don't do revenge'? Like, I get it revenge is bad and that was kinda the point of Moby Dick. BUT WE HAVE LITERALLY DONE SO MUCH REVENGE AND REVENGE WAS KINDA SINCLAIR'S WHOLE THING AND IT'S PROBABLY GONNA BE HEATHCLIFF'S! Why is revenge suddenly bad and 'oh no it makes you just like the other person' no it does not Sinclair did not suddenly become genocidal because he kept trying to murder Kromer. Is revenge only bad when it's successful? IDK, I just hate narrative inconsistency and this immediately jumped out at me.
Overall, I really liked this Canto! I have my problems with it, but they are relatively minor compared to all it does well.

Ok.
There's a lot of little stuff to appreciate first, the further respect for SInclair's trauma, Don Quixote getting smarter, the inclusion of the Ring with Ryoshu lore, even more suffering for Yi Sang.
That's all cool. Fuck that, who gives a shit.
Mirror worlds surely would have become a more major part of the story at some point, I knew that. But using it to express the duality of the older and younger Heathcliff? The hyper-literal expression of his self destruction and self-loathing as a hunter across the multiverse? Him internalizing that loathing after winning the fight in a way that actually made Bodysack work emotionally? CARMEN COMING IN WITH THE FAT DUB AT THE END?
It has never been more peak than it is right now.
Predictions... uh... Heathcliff is the final boss? Or he actually manifests an Effloresced EGO in the dungeon at some point? I doubt now that Cathy is the true villain of the arc, it might be she saw her fate in the mirror worlds and the collective Cathy's are working together to try and get Heathcliff a happy ending? Its so hard because this felt climactic, I don't know where we go from here aside from what Cathy has planned.

YES. MY GOD I *DO* AND I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED
So the Idea for Sinner Adam univ ties with the "Dante is Ayin" Theory that is actually important, because Sinner Adam canonically cannot recall anything of the other As or just Ayin, nor can he recall the Seed of Light project or its researchers, but even then he knows that Dante is somehow important to fulfilling his (Distorted Carmen's) vision, and that is because his gut feeling knows that Dante is a familiar person and is the key to success (Kind of saying that Dante is like X in LBC??)
Adam does not remember his past just like Dante, but he has only one goal driving him forward, to bring the Light out of Humanity, and the only reason he is trying to achieve that goal is that an unknown (Carmen's) voice tells him it is an important step to making a healthy world. But throughtout the story, it is obvious he kind of went overboard (and insane). Also he thought that joining Limbus Company would help him to achieve his vision
SO Adam's Canto was planned to go last out of all of them and throughout his Canto, the cast ends up going through one of the ruins of Lobcorp to get the Golden Bough (might tweak that part, i still have to write his Canto) and they manage to find some of the last L. Corp. Employees that got killed infront of the cast by Abnos that have breached a while ago so boom abno fights have started and that is when Adam's fuzzy memories of most likely the team of researchers for the "Seed of Light" project he could not recall start to swim back up. They start with him remembering who was Carmen and the other researchers before their death, and once he remembers that, an ALEPH Risk Abnormality that has breached attacks the cast and that is WhiteNight, so the WhiteNight Boss fight starts and it is going to be like the Dongbaek fights in Canto 4, aka first WhiteNight battle is gonna be fighting against the Plague Doctor, and after that fight is finished, it transforms into WhiteNight and it is the last boss fight before you start the dungeon.
In the Dungeon, you go through Adam's forgotten memories about the Project, Carmen, the Story of LobCorp, the 50 Days Cycle and the "Ending of Ayin" . Starting from the first floor, you go through the memories of the whole research team, as well as Carmen's death, the brief look at the death of the team and ending the 1st floor at a Bossfight against Garion (Might also change that part)
Floor 2 is about the Aftermath of the story, where basically Lobcorp becomes a Wing and the "50 days" Cycle Loop has started, ends at an abno bossfight because i dont have ideas for this just yet
Floor 3 is where Adam actually remembers about the other A's, and learns that the Manager X and A are all part of Ayin, so you get an Abel fight that is trying to make you go back to the start, Abram Fight who is also trying to stop the cast, and then lastly
Adam has remembered who he was, what he was capable of, and why is his goal so important to him, although he realizes that he cannot achieve his goal just yet without a key component, and that component in his eyes in Dante, the Manager X that will lead him to the door of success, and as he went more and more crazy over trying to lure Dante in, to let them both free this Humanity of its shell, to let their Light bloom, he just straight up snapped and attempted to attack the cast, luckily Ishmael was able to block the attack with her shield. But Adam cannot take it any longer and Carmen's voice keeps on speaking louder in his head, in the end causing Adam to distort
And that is the last Bossfight of the Dungeon, Distorted Adam

So. Canto IV part 2, ay?
The Ruina flashbacks were real. They really fucking. Did the Snow Queen but made it spring instead of winter huh.
I’m glad we’re seeing more of those kinds of funky boss battles finally, but also DEAR FUCKING LORD. I AM AFRAID OF WHAT’S TO COME IF THAT’S A MID-BOSS. WE AREN’T EVEN IN THE FUCKING DUNGEON YET!!!
If I didn’t have commissions that need to be done I would be drawing so much Yi Sang dear lord I need to comfort that man so badly.

Hope it's okay on me going out of the usual Oreca stuff asks here and this might a little loaded question, but I got curious today. Are Aviya and Nate the ones on your header picture? What are they like? You don't have to give out a lot of info about them if you don't want to, djsnrjs- this just me being curious today-
And uhh... I got a small confession to make, I played Limbus until I got stuck at the boss before the dungeon at Canto V so... yeah, I didn't keep updated on the info and just stopped for the time being- If it's okay on asking on strategy on that, that'll be great and thanks a lot to you-

They're originally employees OCs from my era of playing Lobotomy Corporation, but I love them so much, now I use them as my OC insert for various stuff!
For me, Nate and Aviya are inseparable duo who acts like very close siblings, where Nate is usually the one that acts like a big brother to Avi
I actually been writing some self-indulgent Oreca Battle OC insert with them and my other OCs as battlers, but that will be a story for another time-

canto IV dungeon is impossible to finish the game just keeps crashing during boss fights i can't do this anymore - why are these developers incompetent...

It's a shame I dropped limbus. Currently been reading wuthering heights and whatever info i've oscillated about canto vi makes me a little more and more insane. My favorite thing to do back then was to draw comparisons to the source material and lcb's original spin on it, especially with the clusterfuckery that is everything that can happen in the city.
And not to mention, god, I want to experience the main mirror dungeon with battling the bosses and listening into mili's "through patches of violet". like holy shit mili keeps slaying with her songs. literally just listen to it here:

and if there was one thing i really loved about the game it was how seamlessly they meld in the songs into their respective boss stages.
for all the grief it gave me by crashing at every possible moment canto iv's fight was really good.
as for canto iii the christmas-esque hymn turning into something more intense in kromer's fight was iconic too. i love you you caterpillar body horror menace

I spent a good chunk of the evening today just streaming Limbcomp to some folks so they could help hold my hand through the nightmare gauntlet that is the final three boss fights in the canto 5 dungeon and man. man. limbcomp sure is A Game in terms of its gameplay. A game that truly lives on the absolute two extremes of sheer difficulty. Got rewarded at the end though when my celebratory gacha rolls just randomly gave me the christmas Outis. I think that whole ordeal left me physically exhausted though…..
