while I do agree that it is funny to assume the characters in the fell xenologue are simply personality flips I also think it would be so much more fun to take it as an examination of the characters, what changed to make them different from their counterparts, and how it reflects on the ones that we know in the main story

so with that said….. here's my essay on why despite the fact that it looks like personality flip with no basis, alternate Alcryst (Altcryst) is actually not that unbelievable, just a version taken to the extreme due to the nature of the alternate world

"must I do everything for you, my pathetic excuse for a brother"

a good example that it is not simple swaps can start with Celine, I have seen many point out that the alt version of her is not necessarily a personality swap, just her ruthlessness to do whatever it takes for the benefit of her people taken to the extreme in a harsher world

"if they must suffer in order for our people to live, so be it"

(and this is just from her B support with Alear)

Celine cares deeply for her brother, and by extension the nation of firene.

(A support with Fogado)

Now this version of her has grown up in a world where peace isn't a norm and has to be fought to assured, pushing her ruthlessness to achieve it to the front.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if alt Fogado turns out similar to alt Celine

ultimately they are willing to do the extreme for what they believe is for the benefit of their family and kingdom, but since they have grown up in relative peace, they do not often have to act on it and as such this side is rarely shown.

Due to the world fell xenolgue presents which is much less peaceful, this tendency and side is pushed to the forefront. This I believe can be applied to Alcryst as well

From just one line, it is already a shocker that 1. Altcryst is extremely harsh and 2. he is demeaning alt Diamant (not giving Diamant a funny nickname sorry)

regarding the first point. (slapping alcryst like a car) this guy can fit so much rage and hate in him. This negative energy in general is primarily seen directed towards himself but we have seen it directed at others before, mainly towards those he does not respect and consider his enemy

(chapter 11 where being a hater overrides respecting diamant)

this cold brutality also can be seen in his introduction scene, he has an aggressiveness that is quite fitting for a country of might, and has a very attack first, apologise (profusely) later policy

this is also seen towards Ivy and Hortensia who used to be his enemies and he does not drop that attitude towards Ivy until their C support when he realises that she no longer needs to be considered a threat

Camilla notes in her bond conversation with him that he is different on and off the battlefield. She also says that they are similar in their duality of kindness to their allies but lack of mercy to their enemies

this is especially shown in how his critical lines are quite different from how he normally speaks, in the eng version this comes across as him being confident and assertive and in the jp version he comes across as being steadfast and serious. (I enjoy both and I'm not trying to pit them against each other but think there is enough difference to point it out)

notably, Alcryst's attitude and manner of speaking while in battle is similar to the personality Altcryst shows in the trailer. This leads me to believe that this is the aspect of Alcryst more prominent in the universe

so while Alcryst is a sopping wet cat, he has absolutely the potential to snap and bite, the gap moe is vital to his characterisation even

which brings us to the second point, that Altcryst does not seem to have those boundaries and is able to berate even alt Diamant. so. why?

first let's look at why Alcryst has low self worth in the first place, and why he puts Diamant on such a high pedestal.

Conveniently, Alcryst's B support with Fogado lays it out because Fogado straight up was like hey Alcryst can you tell me about your childhood so I can understand why you are Like This

which, in short, Alcryst was born with a significant age gap between him and Diamant, and as such grew up hearing everyone praise Diamant and compare him negatively in regards to Diamant's achievements, ultimately making him internalise it as having no worth at all. which. uhm. why are you comparing a child's achievement to someone probably in their teens.

Alcryst has put Diamant on such a high pedestal that he is flawless in his eyes. (this also isn't helped by Diamant's own issues that is afraid of showing weakness) He seems to have his world blown when he learns that Diamant actually has fears and weakness.

It is important to note that Alcryst in fact does have a good relationship with his family, we see Diamant and Morion be nothing but supportive towards him and his mention of his mother in his support with Saphir imply a good relationship there as well.

the impact that outside influences can still have on someone should not be underestimated though. I imagine this dissonance of being doted by his family and criticized by outsiders (who are likely nobles and private tutors who he still interacts a lot with) complicates his feeling of self worth and exacerbates his imposter syndrome

and the thing is that Alcryst is actually pretty skilled! It is straight up stated in his Ally notebook

and in his A support with Diamant he scores 8 out of 10 in their archery competition while Diamant scored 9 out of 10

which, you can take at face value like Alcryst that Diamant performed better than him, or note that it is actually pretty impressive for him to be so closely matched with Diamant considering their large age gap and thus the amount of experience they have

he is also very strategic that is noted in both his solo and paired endings, as "brilliant yet humble strategist" and "unrecognizably composed and powerful force in government" respectively. he also seems to naturally note the strategic effectiveness of areas he's in based on some of his exploration quotes

lastly... regarding inner strength...... Alcryst may be far more stronger in it than Diamant. He is more decisive than Diamant, who is more hesitant and struggles with self doubt and his readiness for the throne. Ironically this may be due to the expectations Diamant has experienced since young, leading him to be far more reserved and careful due to potential repercussions. Meanwhile Alcryst already thinks he's at the bottom and as such has no qualms making a potential mess to fight for what he thinks is right. Basically:

diamant: oh I asked for no pickles :/ ah well

alcryst: EXCUSE ME !!! he asked for NO pickles !!!!!

this particular decisiveness is actually what makes Morion say this:

actually this whole part shows a pretty important glimpse into what kind of enviroment the Brodia Bros grew up in so I'm going use my singular video embed on it.

(girl I did not notice the promos at the top until I downloaded it and clipped it on my phone I am not going to bother redownloading another video)

someone out there in Diamant Nation has probably dissected this more thoroughly than me but when Diamant expresses his worries, Morion does not outright dismiss it, but still brushes it away, not taking it very seriously. Morion is still a pretty good dad! both his sons clearly love him deeply but he also unknowingly contributed to a lot of their mental health problems, which Morion himself likely acquired from the environment of Brodia as well. he straight up says that he does not fear death, but fears being known as a king who runs from battle.

Diamant is similar to his father in that way, carrying a fear of not being a proper ruler and king for Brodia. Diamant struggles to uphold the values he was taught with but to instead use it to bring peace and separate it from a nation that uses it to wage war. and amidst all that he worries and worries and is told yet again that fear has no place in Brodia.

and despite all of Alcryst's low self worth, he does not hesitate or worry, he is decisive and quick to make harsh decisions. He does what he believes needs to be done, including dealing the killing blow at their father to spare Diamant from the guilt of having to do so

(and the tone of voice he says this in both eng and jp is the same one in his crit lines and therefore what Altcryst uses YESSSSS I am COOKING)

also this is a bit [guy with conspiracy theory strings] moment here but it may very well reflect in how they work as units as well. fe engage's gameplay encourages the player to go on the offense, which Alcryst excels at, Diamant on the other hand is has sol and geared more for defensive play (and the sol barely activates due to his low dex oof) while alcryst with luna that scales off his high dex is activating it every other attack. this is also an excuse to link a funny video I found

so!!! due to the environment Alcryst was raised in, he grew to believe that Diamant was better than him in any way and as such placed him on an incredibly high pedestal. He in return perceives himself as having very little worth, when in truth is very skilled and possesses many traits that one could argue are very "Brodian"

well what kind of enviroment did Altcryst grow up in?

we can see that Altcryst is harsh to alt Diamant, Diamant is no longer on the high pedestal our Alcryst has placed him at (or arguably never there at all? there's not enough information to know)

so what's going on with alt Diamant? from the trailer, the way he speaks sounds much meeker to the Diamant we know. from a surface glance of that, it might be assumed that the brothers simply swapped personalities, but you have already read my argument on why the world is not a simple swap, just a change of circumstances that brings sides of the characters we know that is not so easily seen pushed to the front. and the same can be said of Diamant, who we've already seen struggles with anxiety, self doubt, and hesitance on his readiness for the throne.

Morion notes that Diamant has increased worry lately, from what I can assume is from the threat of a full war. I don't find it difficult to believe that alt Diamant, who grew up in a much less peaceful world, will be much more anxious. as such, the anxiety and fear that Diamant keeps buried is brought to the forefront in this world.

Altcryst interestingly says "must I do everything for you" implying that he believes he can do a better job than Diamant and take over the task, that he has done this multiple times before, and maybe even a frustration that he has to do so. If it's difficult to imagine Alcryst believing he can be better than Diamant he actually achieves this in their A support!

in this context he follows it up by saying

(which is another important part of Alcryst's character, that he will push past his boundaries for the sake of his loved ones)

there's no direct connection, but I do find it interesting how he says this after he realises that Diamant isn't as perfect and flawless as he thought

going back to Alcryst and Fogado's B support, this very interesting idea is brought up:

and Alcryst's response to why he wouldn't is:

which poses the question of, how would Alcryst have turned out if he realised much earlier that Diamant isn't as flawless as he thought?

well the fell xenologue is right there

half joking, while I do think that is part of the reason, the other reasons that I have mentioned play a role as well. along with the fact that due to the restless state of the world, Altcryst is put into "battle mode" more often bringing out that side of him more

okay so here comes my own interpretation that has less of me pointing back to canon and more of me going a bit delusional (I say as if I am not over 2k words deep in this)

In this world with more prominent conflict, alt Diamant is unable to cope with it like our Diamant can. As such, the worries and anxiety that our Diamant already hides is brought to the forefront for alt Diamant, making him come of as much more meeker than the one we know.

Due to this Altcryst does not place alt Diamant on such a high pedestal that our Alcryst does. I won't be surprised if the comparison still happens though, because it was already illogical in the original world. However, instead of taking it lying down and internalising it, Altcryst instead channels the rage and anger that our Alcryst is already capable of to prove them wrong. and from the competency already seen in our Alcryst, this is entirely doable.

I also believe that due to the state of the fell xenologue world, there are more conflicts thrown at them. and compared to Diamant's hesitance, Altcryst's quick thinking decisiveness often leads to him stepping in and taking charge. (much like how alt Celine is more ruthless in this world and alt Alfred, while reluctant and hesitant, still calls for the invasion to Brodia)

and while Altcryst's harshness to alt Diamant probably adds to alt Diamant's list of Problems (tm) it is likely a compounding addition. with their large age gap alt Diamant didn't grow up with this and likely developed his meeker personality from the other factors previously discussed

I still think that Altcryst cares in some way for his brother. much like how Celine and Fogado's ruthlessness is tied to the love for their family, Alcryst's capacity for rage and lack of mercy is strongly tied to how much he cares for his loved ones

IN CONCLUSION

the fell xenologue world is not a simple swap but the aspects of the original counterparts that were not so obvious being brought to the front due to the harsher world they are in

the aspect that is brought out in Alcryst is his rage, brutal competency, and cold decisiveness

due to not placing Diamant on such a high pedestal, Altcryst does not suffer from as much lack of self worth and is able to channel his rage more easily (because this guy cannot cope properly in either universe)

Alcryst's capacity for harshness and lack of mercy goes hand in hand with his capacity to love, and I think Altcryst still cares for alt Diamant in his own way

Camilla/Hinoka was probably my biggest one. Love the aesthetic, very versatile dynamic

Elise/Sakura was also hella cute. Pink and purple sapphics! Outgoing + shy combo! I actually just pulled their Valentine's duo in FEH and their lines are so friggin cute (Elise would be such a sweet and supportive girlfriend)

For FE3H:

I really like Mercedes/Annette. Besties turned lovers, their ending together is cute, and also, Mercedes is well equipped to bully Gilbert (nicely)

I'll preface this by saying I played their paralogue before I got their supports, but I thought Dorothea/Ingrid was hella cute. Lots of potential for angst. I'd just... you know... rewrite their support line lmao

Hilda/Marianne. Cotton candy sapphics! Also, I just think it's really cute how Hilda is lazy AF but will still wind up doing things for Marianne to take care of her. Their duo unit in FEH is also really freaking adorable I mean

Hilda straight up throwing her body in front of Marianne? Marianne is completely uninjured while Hilda is lookin' pretty rough?! Tell me that doesn't just make your heart swoon

Celine/Everyone she's got some mad game. I think Chloe is her biggest pair but I actually think her support with Hortensia is adorable too.

Ahaha, it's all right. Maybe I forgot to specify earlier, but there's only been three named wyverns post GBA Era, and one pegasus since as well. I know there were quite a few in the SNES(Super Famicon)/GBA games. Thanks for those links, though, I don't believe I've seen them in that order before!

I'm glad to see the horses have been treated better post GBA, which three named Horses in the DS/Switch era!

But the fact that they had plenty of names before is why I'm particularly salty about the fact that there are no named mounts in Tellius. Elincia's pegasus that she inherits from her great grandmother doesn't even get a name.

And there were plenty of opportunities too! Kieran could have just said in his supports with Marcia "Some knights treat their horses like transport, but not me! (Name) here is my brother-in-arms!" If Bastian was alive when Elincia gets the pegasus, he could have interjected with a name. Jill, who has a talent for caring for wyverns, could have told Ike when she was explaining why she had to stay on the ship "I can't push (name) that far, we'd never cross the ocean" or encouraged her wyvern to go just a little father when she appears on the ship map.

And I know the mount bond isn't pushed as hard in the re-classing games that come later, but Sophia names her horse. Cherche, Percy, and Rosado name their wyverns. Hortensia's pegasus gets an implied name through her class description.

Am I really expected to believe Cynthia doesn't have some over the top heroic name (possibly after the legendary queen Caeda) for her pegasus? Odin doesn't insist upon a name for Camilla's wyvern, just her armor? Marianne doesn't try to redirect Claude to discuss his wyvern? Claude doesn't offer her a quick throwaway about his wyvern to try and put her at ease before pressing her about her secret? Ivy doesn't have to reluctantly reveal, with great embarassment, that she named her wyvern after Alear to anyone?

As someone who's played 3H and is currently playing Awakening, will I like Ivy from Engage? I've seen tons of artwork and memes and she seems really funny

I don't know what your tastes are so I can't give you an answer on whether you'll like her or not, but what I can tell you is that she's one of my favorite characters of Engage!

She's got a backstory similar to Camilla's but inherited none of the confidence from her, making her a very different character (which is great considering pre-release many thought she'd be nothing but a shallow clone of her, me included and I say this as a Camilla fan).

She's a lot more serious, duty-bound but having big social anxiety in any other contests, is a lot more contemplative and her relationship with Hortensia is just. So sweet.

And yes, she's also really funny, mainly because she is so socially awkward it's unreal. she just like me fr

She also has some really great supports, especially with the Brodian Royals! I def recommend you check those out when you play Engage👀

Oh, and also she's a magic wyvern rider and that's sick

1. CONNECTIONS

write about how our muses could connect with each other! ex. what does your muse like to do that other people would be involved in? do they have interests that other people might share?

He is a Knight of Seiros and doesn’t advertise his prince-status, he wants to be treated like a normal person that doesn't need any special treatment.

It might be a surprise to other muses that he is a prince of Brodia and Diamant’s brother. Not sure if it's enough for a full thread but might be fun for a short interaction. I mean Alcryst won't have fun but it's okay.

Consistently tries to push himself to try new things, willing to go out of his comfort zone and do something he’s never done before. In between Engage’s end and arrival in Fódlan, he finished his formal education, but still takes seminars on topics that he's interested in.

The problem is that he doesn’t have much in the way of hobbies. Trying to fish more but it’s not usually something he does by himself. He's the kind of guy that will want to try something new but only if there's a friend by his side.

Loves learning about new places! I think if the school had cultural festivals he’d be all in.

2. PLATONIC

Write about your muse and their concept of friendship. Ex. how is your muse like with friends? Do they make friends easily or do they find it difficult to connect with others?

Alcryst's biggest barrier to making friends is, unfortunately, himself. He's pretty shy and awkward due to low self-esteem, so it's rare for him to make a good first impression with people. In spite of that, "other people" are specifically listed as one of his likes and he wants to make meaningful connections with everyone.

So here is my bold take: Alcryst is a (shy) extrovert. He's uncomfortable being in the center of attention, he struggles at intense parties... but at the same time he enjoys the company of others, he goes out of his way to meet new people and wants to connect with them. Yes he calls himself a bit of an introvert in his Seadall support but I've decided that he's wrong so there 😂

It takes a while for Alcryst to get comfortable with a new person, but once he is, he's really a different person from how he usually is. He's a lot more relaxed and comfortable, and he's less prone to self-deprecation if he's shooting the shit with his friends. Mainly because Alcryst tends to keep the focus more on others than himself. He's the kind of guy that goes out of his way for the people he cares about, observant of their emotions and desires and always trying to lift their spirits, make them happy. For better or worse, he's a people pleaser and cares about what other people think.

3. ANTAGONISTIC

Write about your muse and the conflicts they have with other people. Ex: who are they on bad terms with, what kind of people do they not get along well with, how do they act around people they don’t like

Alcryst is NOT conflict-averse and very much willing to start fights if he believes the other person is in the wrong. See: him about to throw hands with Ivy post Chapter 10, still being hostile in her C support like "you know what you've done", treating Alear and Hortensia as enemies when he believes them to be a threat (to the point of almost shooting the Divine Dragon's head off, whoopsies!). It comes from a place of wanting to protect the people he cares about, the kingdom of Brodia as well as his family. From his Camilla Bond A convo:

Camilla: I feel like we’re quite similar. Like how we’re both kind, but can be cruel on the battlefield… Alcryst: Me? Similar to you?! I’m completely unworthy! Though…we do work well together in battle. Alcryst: Perhaps because we give our all to defend our allies and show no mercy to the enemy.

I think Alcryst starts out as having a black-and-white view of things, like a very Us-vs-Them mentality that he grew up with. Elusians are a threat because they worship the Fell Dragon (bad), and Brodia keeps them in check by conquering their territory and undermining the kingdom (good!). If you're not with us, will that make you a threat in the future? That sort of thing. I imagine he'd still be wary of people who are unable to commit to a cause or switch sides as it pleases them. They would be considered unpredictable, not someone to trust. It's absolutely not something Alcryst is proud of, he gives himself a lot of grief about it and is trying to "be more like Diamant" in that regard.

4. ROMANTIC

Write about your muse and their relationship with romance. Ex. are they searching for love or not interested in it in the slightest, what’s their dating history like, how do they act around crushes, how would they treat their partner if they were in a relationship.

As Citrinne puts it, he's not that clever 😂😂😂

Alcryst is kind of oblivious. He doesn't think anyone would like him, so if someone tried to flirt with him he would think that they're either joking or he's misunderstanding the situation. Unfortunately you'd need to drop very loud and obvious hint for him to get it, and even then he'll second-guess himself and wonder if he's reading too much into it. "Diamant, xyz said that I'm hot, that they would date me given the chance, they give me lots of gifts and say that they love every part of me. I'm not sure if this means that they're actually interested in me, help."

His dating history is nonexistent: when your brother is the most eligible bachelor in Brodia you don't tend to get a bunch of marriage proposals your way. Why aim for silver when you can potentially win gold?

As a prince of Brodia, Alcryst has pretty much accepted that he's likely going to get married for political purposes rather than "true love". However he still has reservations about it, as he does not want some poor girl to end up miserable with him just to make a power move. Whether there is romantic attraction in the marriage or not, Alcryst would still prioritize having a happy and harmonious relationship with his partner. If Diamant ordered him to marry someone he did not choose, Alcryst would do so: duty commands it, and it's expected of him to follow through.

Because of that, Alcryst tries not to act upon his crushes. I like to think that he's the kind of guy that gets all kind of crushes easily, mainly because he wants to get to know them better. He'll just as easily try to talk himself out of them and convince himself that it'll never happen, though. Alcryst is much of the same around his crushes, maybe more nervous (but he's always nervous).

While I was writing this, I ended up asking myself this fun question question: Does Alcryst think he deserves love and romance?

I don’t play him as thinking himself as abominable scum of the earth that deserves nothing, ever, he has some self-respect. Maybe doesn’t see fairy-tale romance as something that would ever happen for him.

Is he worthy of being loved? Struggling with that. Maybe that’s why he’s not totally opposed to political marriage, he doesn’t think he deserves love so he tries not to yearn for it? Or really place that much focus on finding it. His existence in the Brodian royal family is a mistake so it’s fine if they use him as a political pawn.

Doesn’t need to be in love with them, but doesn’t want to be miserable with them either. He puts his all into what he does, wants to be committed.

3. What’s a female character you look up to?

kind of embarrassing but elle woods lmfao. i dont talk too much about myself outside of liking video games but generally speaking i really likes presenting pretty girlish and feminine, and where i live it gets me a lot of grief and people looking down on me. so seeing someone like her who is sooo unabashedly pink and pretty and going to fucking harvard law changed something in me. because i absolutely did have a ‘not like other girls’ phase as a kid but characters like her helped me out of that. realistically as an adult i can see its different for me than her, given shes a rich white woman whos also not real, but still! shes very dear to me. when i was thinking of other characters to put here my other thought was maribelle fire emblem so can you guess i have a type?

6. A female character who got done dirty by the narrative?

celica fire emblem in echoes specifically. i didnt play gaiden because i dont hate myself but i dont know the differences in plot. but in echoes its just like. i love conrad but why is he here? so he can take the spotlight away from celica and solve her problems when she was just fine without him in then original! and then alm has to come save her, and then guess who gets the cool final hit animation at the end of their dual narrative? not her! its like. man. what the hell. i like celica and everything, shes a great character, but intsys does not respect her enough. i will tho. give her to ME.

7. A female character the narrative wound up being much better to than you’d thought it would be?

ivy fire emblem. honestly, like a lot of people, i had a really sour first impression of engage just based on the trailers, and also like a lot of people, i thought ivy was just gonna be camilla 2.0 seductress on a wyvern they’d use strictly for fanservice and cast any interesting traits away. happy to say i was wrong! i loved her character arc with her turning against her father, watching him die, and then fleeing the country everything riding entirely on the hope that the divine dragon can still accept her offerings. and then having to face hortensia and face the fact that ivy left her behind and still get hortensia to come with you its just… ugh. ivy fire emblem. its been a while since i read engages story but her individual character story specifically was just. so fun. i love her very much.

15. Female character you would defend with your life?

lucina fire emblem. same issues as with severa tbh in the sense that in my happy little tumblr bubble i see nothing but complete love an adoration for her, but if i step out and see a twitter/reddit nerd’s opinion on her i lose my mind. “shes boring shes just a forced love interest for male robin her story is poorly written shes shallow” im gonna kill you. god forbid a young woman go through struggles the likes of which none of us will ever know and finds it hard to tell a joke. fucking christ.

rambling about the fell xenologue royals bc i can ↓ spoilers for the entire dlc

okay first off im gonna say its a missed opportunity to not give them alternative designs bc then even if someone didnt like the story they could be like well at least i got to see goth alfred or something. im not a character designer nor am i good at fashion but id say firene have a more muted colour pallette, with like navy blues and grey rather than the bright blue of their coat of arms. brodia less flashy. i love the armour of brodia its very cool but doesnt super suit their ideals in this au. ivy in purple and golds contrasted to hortensia in just like. white idk. make her look like a commoner. and solm also less flashy. maybe like mustard yellow colours. idfk. someone can probably do this better than me.

anyway i am firene biased but i really liked the idea of alfred being more of a figurehead whilst céline is actually the one in control. yes this isnt outright said but i think its kinda implied from how alfred seems kinda nervous and depressed and is like "i have no idea how to be a king" whilst céline is like "alfred if you dont approve this invasion im just going to do it myself". even at the end where theyre "redeemed" céline says "i am here to support you, alfred. lets head back so you can rest, hm?" which just seems like our céline right? when alfred was dying she studied and prepared herself to be the new heir in case he passed away and she had to inherit the throne, but after his recovery she instead dedicated herself to supporting him the best she can, as well as focusing herself on taking care of the more unsavoury parts of ruling. but i think from everything we've seen about céline in this world, she's still just taking charge. céline is proud and angry, alfred is unconfident and depressed. and céline loves alfred so much that she's basically controlling him. she's not the opposite of our céline, she's just gone to the extreme.

contrasting this with the relationship of alcryst and diamant. like Alfred and céline, diamant is not confident and alcryst is proud and thinks himself more suited to leading. i dont think its ever said why their personalities are like this (other than rafal like controlling them and stuff) but its my headcanon ever since the trailer came out that perhaps morion died much earlier in this universe, where alcryst was too young to remember. so diamant grew up with one of his biggest fears being true, and i dont imagine bereavement counselling would be too realised in fire emblem universe, so it kinda manifested into extreme anxiety maybe causing the people around him to give up on him becoming a strong king, instead resorting to grooming alcryst to be the way he is. and alcryst seems to be planning to kill diamant and take the throne himself (i think diamant even has fears about this if u fight him with alcryst). alcryst instead of having a inferiority complex has a superiority complex bc everyone in this universe is like "diamant is so useless as a king, you 'd be much more suited alcryst" really showing how your environment can shape you.

for ivy first off i have to say, her and zelkov being besties in the alternate universe is literally so fucking funny. more importantly i've seen some people saying "oh she's like how we all thought she'd be before the game came out!" which i dont really agree with? bc everyone thought she'd a camilla clone right? but i'd argue the most important part of camilla's character is that she loves her siblings and will protect them no matter what which alt ivy is Definitely not doing. this ivy also hates poor people and values her devotion to the fell dragon above all else. like ofc a big part of our ivy is her devotion to the divine dragon, but it's also very important to her character that she prioritises her subjects above all else (i think the givre port chapter highlights this, wanting to hurry to help people who are alive rather than clear the port of the corrupted), but alt ivy is too busy trying to revive sombron and slaughtering the solm army to care about who dies. and hortensia. oh my dear sweet baby girl i fucking CRIED at alt hortensia vs ivy oh my godddddddddssdd. it seems ivy inherited at lot of her mother's beliefs in this universe and hates hortensia and has also killed all of her other half siblings hahaha :'). anyway hortensias abuse from her sister seems to have really impacted her self worth. and i think "parents died much earlier" should also be taken for the elusians as well bc hortensia got a lot of her confidence learning from her mother right? one thing that sorta sucks is hortensia vs. goldmary being like "the three of us wanted to stand out" whilst shes standing there in her fucking silly little clown outfit and decked out pegasus, so once again, alt designs would have really elevated the dlc imo. anyway alt hortensia i am giving u a big hug my baby i love you🫂

and onto solm. okay im sorry but timerra was so lame. they could have really done something cool with her being serious, stoic, and essentially robotic in her rule but its literally just "merrin what are you talking about you hate animals! and im a vegetarian and i hate singing! and panette you hate ghosts!" and like that is the extent of it. they didnt even bother to explain what solm was like in this universe and feels like they just added her into the elusia chapter to be like "look three way battle! just like three houses!!! you guys loved three houses right???" im sorry timerra they did u so dirty :/. fogado on the other hand. ough its so good. so fogado is dead (theyre all dead technically but fogado is dead dead and aware it) and instead of travelling the country to aid timerra he's instead working directly for rafal as assassin, and is implied to hate timerra (he says something like "i always wished i would be the one to kill my sister but i guess i'll to settle for killing her lookalike" in his vs. timerra dialogue). and i dont this this dislike is mutual (alt timerra says she wants to hug fogado in her vs. him dialogue iirc). this fogado seems to be more... bloodthirsty ig and less into the like. sneaky fighting he does in our universe. he mentions in his conversation with bunet that bunet is a brute on the battlefield (alt!bunet neurotypical confirmation where?) and fogado seems really fixated on how bunet looked covered in his own blood. we know that our fogado is actually very scared about the war underneath his friendly persona from his supports with pandreo, but alt fogado seems much more emotionless about it. in fact this might tie into solm in this universe thinking about it, instead of being free they all repress their emotions or something, bc even though alt fogado still talks in a sorta lighthearted candace, if a little more intense sounding and sounds Especially off whilst reminiscing on bunet and pandreo's deaths. his final death quote being "im not scares. ive died twice now... whats one more time?" sure okay buddy i believe you.

thats about it for my thoughts. tbh i wish we got more screentime with these guys. nel and rafal and the winds are great dont get me wrong but i wish they had focused a bit more on the royals and how they are different to how they are in our universe (even tho there are a lot of unique boss convos with them most of the ones I've seen were not super interesting or insightful :/and you definitely cant get all of them in a single playthrough im pretty sure). sorry for the long post ty if u read this far🫶

Bio:

Ivy is the Crown Princess of Elusia and older half-sister of Hortensia. She has a serious and quiet personality with which she maintains the dignity and attitude of royalty. There is a mysterious and wistful atmosphere about her.

Thoughts:

At first glance, I would've thought she was evil. Then I got Camilla vibes but once I saw more, I think she is just more of a reserved, darker woman. I mean, she's going to become queen and judging by her appearance, serious and quiet makes sense. She's extremely beautiful, the hair color and the colors in her outfit compliment one another marvelously. I'm really impressed. Of course, I wouldn't be a proper gay if I didn't talk about how much I love the feathers on her cape.

Looks (Hair): 10/10 - Flawless

Looks (Outfit): 10/10 - Colors and feathers are perfect

Looks (Face): 8/10 - Beautiful

Fighting Style Flair: 7/10 - The wyvern did a whole circle while she flung the spell at them. LOL

Personality (1st Impression): 6/10 -She seems decent but I'm not sure how much there is to her.

Class Fit: 10/10 - She has that femme fatale vibe, so a wyvern mage makes sense. The lack of armor means that axe would look weird on her.

Overall: 8.5/10

Made an Engage tier list, this is purely from a combat standpoint not about how they are as characters! Gonna put some explanations under the cut. There are two spoilers at the very bottom of the explanation so beware of going below the D Tier section!

Okay obviously I lied bc Sommie is at the top but how was I gonna see him and not put him there? Anyways!

S Tier: I genuinely never thought Alcryst would be very good but his insane Dex growths combined with a high Dex cap makes Luna an invaluable tool that procs often. If you give him an energy drop or two, while not necessary in the least, he'll become an actual nuclear warhead. Chloe is S because her availability + really good personal magic growth combined with Griffin Knight just being a pretty good class makes it so that if you give her a Levin Sword even as early as chapter 8 or 9 she'll be melting everything in sight and retains nearly that level of viability for the rest of the game. Panette shines with Ike though sometimes I give him to Diamant. Even still, slightly nerfed when paired with Hector she is still an i n s a n e unit and I would recommend placing her on any and every team composition you'll ever have. Genuine demon of a unit and I love her dearly. Seadall is self explanatory, dancer always S Tier.

A Tier: Jean wasn't on this list for some reason but he'd be at the top of A if he was. So much potential, he can do pretty much anything very well especially with Veronica. Hortensia's staff +1 range utility paired with pretty decent stat growths makes her the best healer imo. Yunaka paired with Corrin outshines any other dagger user in my experience though I do plan on messing around with her viability with Chrobin. Anna paired with Camilla as an axe Mage Knight makes amazing use of Camilla's skills and weapons, I'm aware that Sage Anna with Byleth is also very good but I'm very partial to this setup. Rosado reclassed into great knight and paired with Tiki becomes immortal against physical damage after a few levels it's wild. Alear being this high may be a surprise but they can be very good when reclassed immediately into wyvern knight after promotion. Kagetsu is someone I haven't used but I can't deny that everyone seems to think he's very good. Merrin provides good utility when paired with Lucina to poison foes during chain attacks due to her movement range and good stats. Louis is this high up due to his availability, amazing tank up until Diamant can take off or you get Rosado going and then he starts falling off.

B Tier: Diamant makes a good off-tank when paired with Ike, especially if he gets lucky with Sol. Goldmary is another candidate for Lucina who can make chain attacks a damage carry if you handle her properly on the hero class. Ivy is a competent unit though from what I've seen/read I messed up by not giving her speed buffs from Lyn which I plan to do in this run. Jade is another competent tank that falls off in endgame. On paper Zelkov seems better than Yunaka, however her synergy with Corrin and personal skill has her winning out to a large degree against him in my opinion. Good replacement option though if you get unlucky with her growths/lose her. Lapis is another good replacement option for Kagetsu specifically, she makes a very good Swordmaster though I also enjoyed her as a wyvern knight. Pandreo is the second best healer imo and can deal very good damage if set up properly/paired with Soren though I don't recommend this late-game as I'll explain later. Céline can be very good early game though she falls off quickly especially if reclassing Anna to Mage Knight and using Ivy.

C Tier: Etie I feel is a good unit though I can't deny that she falls off quickly when compared to Alcryst and in a game with such few deployment slots compared to viable characters I can't justify using her. Alfred is another character that falls off quickly due to his unique class being redundant with his low Dex scaling and his growths not being viable enough to justify another class. Admittedly I haven't used Amber much though from what I have experienced/seen/read he doesn't distinguish himself much at all. Framme makes a competent healer if you lose Hortensia or Pandreo, otherwise I'd recommend dropping her ASAP. Citrinne relies nearly entirely on Olwen's S rank bond ring Dire Thunder ability, she simply doesn't have the stats anywhere but her damage to justify anything else or being any higher. I'm actually not too sure on Vander, as with every Jagen I drop him very quickly so I'm not sure how he scales. Haven't heard much though so he can't be too fantastic.

D Tier: God I wish Timerra was more viable, I love her as a character but she's so utterly RNG reliant that I can't justify investing in her on hard mode especially when her role is filled far easier and more reliably by Diamant. Clanne is someone who if you're absolutely committed to using him should be reclassed to an axe unit to make use of his good accuracy and related growths however I don't personally find it worth it. Fogado suffers from somewhat lackluster growths and an utterly useless unique class, reclass to Warrior if determined to use him but there are much better options. Boucheron is a sad case because while you can make him viable it takes pretty hefty investment and quite some time to set up. Other than that one specific setup he's simply not good. Bunet I love you you out and proud creature, absolute freak of a character but I can't think of a single case you'd want him on a team other than a niche setup with Celica's food skill and even then it's more gimmick than anything.

Spoilers!

Mauvier would go in B Tier right behind Diamant. He may join rather late but his scaling is actually very decent and his base stats get ramped up very quickly with a little bit of work. I'd recommend giving him a try just for the sake of judging for yourself.

Veyle is a curious case because while I'd place her in A tier between Rosado and Alear I can see why some people put her in C Tier. She has two specific niches: a Celica Echo Draconic Hex setup to become a dedicated debuffer and the other being paired with Soren. This is what I was referencing above and why I place Veyle in A tier, when paired with Soren she becomes a perpetual near unkillable glass cannon to an unbelievable degree. Takes insane damage but heals it back almost instantly, I've seen her solo entire maps with this setup on higher difficulties.
