I know we all love the idea of Rayla wearing Callum’s scarf again, but I want to see her trying on his gloves. Giggling at the floppy pinko and just a little put out by the fact his fingerless gloves are big enough to almost cover her entire fingers.

I watched s4 of tdp and I really liked it!
I have many random thoughts but I don't really have the time to turn it all into a serious post, so I'll just ramble a bit in the tags. Spoiler warning!
#tdp#tdp spoilers#i love soren so much. he might be my favorite character now#i enjoyed all the new characters and i like how they handled the old ones#i was afraid stella would be annoying but she was actually quite cute. besides the suspicious moments#all the dragons designs are magnificent. love them so much#the new intro makes me think of hdm intro. i don't mind it though#the solo cello part is hauntingly beautiful#mhm what else. i like how callum and rayla's relationship was handled. felt natural to me#also ive seen comments about rayla feeling off or out of character. i personally haven't felt that#i think how she's acting makes sense taking moonshadow elf culture into consideration#i don't really need to know everything that happened during 2 year gap. though i wonder if anything interesting did happen only#we don't know it yet#the season felt kinda slow but i don't mind this#i'd rather take slow than rushed#i enjoy viren much more now that he's more torn and unsure#claudia as a villain is fun to watch#her ralationship with terry is interesting i wonder what she really thinks about him#oh and i loved all the atla references. the yip#yip felt me with so much joy haha#there's much more in my head but i'll leave it at this for now. i really want to make some fanart!!#but i don't know if i'll find the time#me talking stuff

Seeing people crap on arc two Rayla genuinely makes me sad. I don't think many people truly realize the depth of Rayla's isolation. What happened to all the characters in arc one was horrible (I am not down playing that), Callum and Ezran lost their father, and Soren lost his family, but they all had Katolis to go back to. Their home. Rayla lost EVERYTHING. She lost the assassins who she grew up with and trained her, she lost her home, and worst of all she lost her parents. She lost Runaan and Ethari in one go, only months after her parents. And all she had to remember them by was what they taught her. And they taught her self sacrifice, they taught her to do questionable things in the name of protection and the greater good. Viren threatened everything she loved which WAS Callum and Ezran, and she thought he was still alive. She was stuck in fight or flight mode, she was bathed in trauma. And she had a point in TTM, everyone was just moving on, and didn't take or let her have anytime to truly grieve. She was in such a dark place in TTM and it influenced her decisions. She knows she did something wrong, she knows she hurt Callum. She hasn't brought herself to apologize yet, but why did we stop treating her as human? (Or elf, as it were)

SEASON 5 THOUGHT DUMP
-I am now more convinced than ever that Harrow is in that fucking bird god damn it. And the quasar diamonds can reconnect spirits with bodies?? HmmmMMmm.
-Callum throwing punches at people/evil animals is now my aesthetic.
-Amaya given Rayla relationship advice?? And Rayla hugging her?? Didn't know I needed this, but I did bless.

Claudia is such a fucking character man.
She hates elves, she's in love with an elf. She likes smelling farts, she's implied to have murdered people. She makes poo jokes, she killed a deer to make dark magic once. She thinks Rayla's little braid is cute, she threatened to throw Rayla's family into lava. She almost walked into a tree because she was too distracted reading, she has no qualms stealing from the Dragon Queen. She and Callum almost kissed that one time and it was never brought up again and it haunts me. Her hair has changed color a million times.

Rayla hugging Amaya was honestly such a lovely scene. Rayla was so hesitant, but she desperately needed a parents love right then, and all four of the elves who could claim that title are lost to her right now. And here’s Amaya, Callum and Ezran’s Amaya. General Amaya, who tried to kill her when they first met. Who thought the worst of her. Here’s Amaya, saying she reminds her of her. Trying to help her. The fact it’s Amaya who initiated this, is choosing to reach out to Rayla, choosing to take this moment to apologise. Amaya who is seeing this young elf, not as a monster like she did all those years ago, but as a young woman who’s lost. Who needs some guidance and a reassuring touch. A nudge in the right direction. The fact that Rayla wants this hug; the fact that Amaya is willing to give it. It’s such a lovely little scene, for both characters

I am so accustomed to seeing the adults in children's media portrayed as antagonistic obstacles for the child protagonists to outwit and overcome. So, I really appreciate how in The Dragon Prince, Callum, Ezran, and Rayla are able to approach and rely upon the adults, strangers even, that they meet during their journey. The specific examples I want to talk about are both from 1x07: the doctor and the mercenary.
When Ezran and Callum meet the doctor, he is genuinely concerned for the boys, even though he can tell that they're not being completely upfront with him. He gives them his hospitality and listens without judgement or reproach while they tell him about the accident with the egg. When he realizes his expertise is inadequate, he keeps his promise not to tell on them, and points them towards hope.
Rayla's meeting with the mercenary is more tense; he is understandably skeptical of her intentions after she chases and corners him in an alley. But when he realizes her sincerity, he heeds her plea for help. His words ("but it'll burn you") and his body language (his hesitation, his worried facial expression) belie his empathy - at least, until he sees that she's an elf, and his prejudice overcomes him.
I also want to give a mention to Villads and Lujanne, who stepped up as mentors/guides for the trio, and offered their assistance, advice, and kindness without expectations of recompense.
In reality, most people are good and want to do right by others(1). The vast majority of the strangers and people you meet are not scheming, nefarious opportunists-in-waiting. If you approach with vulnerability and ask someone for help, they will honestly try to assist you.
I just find it such a refreshing, appropriately wholesome take. Grownups aren't out to get you, kids. As someone who was raised in the "stranger danger" era, I am glad to have tdp's more nuanced and honest version of reality to show and discuss with my own children.

Carry the One: 2nd stand-alone drabble
Her ankle was throbbing, the side of her face stinging, her insides clenching with the memory of the laughter.
They’d all been… happy to see her lose, see her hurt.
They’d be happy to see her gone.
She’d made their crown prince miserable for two years, what else should she have expected?
The… against all reason… loving arms of the crown prince in question, tightened around her as he stomped quickly and angrily away from the sparring grounds.
“I’ll see to it that-“ he started.
“No. You won’t.”
“Rayla, they were cruel to you! You lost on a damn technicality and they know it! That rotten plank of wood you stepped on won that match, and they were acting like-“
“They were acting like I’d won five matches straight and then taken down a peg.”
“That’s shit! You were hurt!”
“Barely. And I’m sure someone flipping arse over tit looks hilarious from the outside.”
“It did not.”
“Well, you’re biased, as in, you don’t hate me.”
“They don’t-“ He pulled her closer, cradling her to his chest, as he kept moving. “I’m sorry, I… you’re amazing. I don’t get why-“
“You… you really don’t get why they hate me?”
“If it’s because you’re an elf, all the more reason to-“
“Callum, they don’t think I deserve what I have, what you give me. They don’t think I should be carried to a comfortable royal bedroom where the finest doctor in the kingdom will see to my measly sprained ankle, a handsome prince will make me magic ice packs and kiss my booboos and a servant will prepare me finger foods I can eat in bed. They don’t think I should be here… at all.” Her throat was tight around her words now. “You k-know… Opeli-“
“I know ‘they’ don’t get a say!”
“They do though,” she sniffed. “They get a say, they get to not want me here, they get to think what they think and you can’t protect me from it. People love you. I’d be mad at the girl who lied to you and left you on your birthday, too. I… I am mad at that girl-”
“I’m not. I love that girl. And you better not badmouth her in front of me.”
