VHS 3: Need you to know I love you more than anything (Cactus and His Wilted Sunflower)

It was a harshly cold day in the middle of February. Below freezing and snow squalls making it difficult to see much more than your own hand in front of your face. Most would assume that the graveyard behind the church in Faraway Town would be devoid of life on such a day. Well those who assumed that truly didn’t know Kel Garcia. As despite the conditions, he was there bundled in winter attire and holding a box close to his chest as he slowly but surely made his way to a grave that he visited everyday without fail.

Kneeling down, he places gloved hand against the stone rubbing off the excess snow.

Our dear sunflower Basil Fey. Your thoughts will follow us into our dreams.

The brunette’s eyes sting a bit as he places down the box and wipes his watery eyes with his now free hand. Even after 3 years, it still stung like it just happened yesterday. And it hurt. It hurt it hurt it hurt like a dull ache in his that would never subside in his chest.

“Hey my little flower. It’s me again…I’m sorry that the others couldn’t join us today. Guess they couldn’t make it over because of the weather but you don’t have to worry. I’d never let something like the weather stop me. It’s a special day after all. It’s not everyday that you turn 20 after all.”

He weakly laughed some as he looked over at the box he brought.

“I wanted to originally bring you more flowers but I figured in this weather they would just wilt and that might make you sad…and I wouldn’t want you sad on your birthday so I made you a gift instead.”

He gives a weak smile as he pulls out a small woodcarving of a cartoonish Cactus lovingly embracing a sunflower with a weighted base to keep it from flying away when the wind blew. Was it realistic? Not at all but it was a piece made from the heart and that is the true greatest gift and honor anyone could ask for.

“I hope that you like it…hopefully one day if my nightmares ever end…we could meet again in my dreams and I could give you the proper birthday celebration you deserve…”

He stated softly with a shaky voice as he leaned the stone and just for a moment…it almost felt like the blond was there by his side giving him the comfort and reassurance he needed to have at least a couple moments of peace.

“Happy birthday…my sunflower…I still love you more than anything.”

People talk about an easier difficulty setting for Elden Ring, and like, they're not wrong, choices in game settings so you can play the way you want to are always good.

However, an easy mode does already exist, and it is called playing as a mage, with the Moonveil Katana.

#elden ring is also in general feeling like the most accessible from software game - by FAR #if you're put off by the difficulty of the others - try this one #it's way more generous #'bonfires' are plentiful #and there are so many ways to make it more of a chill experience #make an Astrologer with an INT build - go around doing every misc thing and progressing npc quests in the zone before doing major bosses #if anything's feeling too tough just go and do something else then come back #by doing all the shit available out there in the zone you'll end up very leveled - grab the meteorite staff as early as you can -#it's easy to get and has S INT scaling (the best)#then grab moonveil after destroying stormveil castle and your domination will be in business #summon your spirit wolves - summon the npcs - and just demolish with your damage #most things become a fucking joke #I've barely been using my spells today because moonveil's special attacks are better #it does both physical and magic damage so it scales off all your points you've put into INT #it's disgusting and I love it #then you're free to enjoy the gorgeous world and follow npc questlines and enjoy the experience rather than it all feeling like a ballache #the dark souls games I finished - I struggled and served my sentence - and they're cool and all!#but the vast majority I look back and think 'oh that pos boss' 'oh that area I'd rather fuck a cactus than replay through - no thanks'#I see myself gladly replaying the shit out of elden ring

Random plant updates, part whatever

Everything is popping out so much new growth and I am incredibly excited about it. It's New Leaf Day 2-5x a week right now! Endless celebrations.

My plant overperformers for the month are my Strawberry begonia (Saxifraga stolonifera) and my NOID Haworthia both of which may need to be repotted again by the end of the summer if they keep growing at the rate they've been growing at. There were both given to me in tiny pots, I upsized them by 2", and they have both already taken up that whole space. I'm incredibly impressed.

The other big growth winner for the month is the old man (nongendered, its just got old man vibes) Hoya pubicalyx that I rescued from my Mother-in-Law's former place of employment. This thing is reputed to be close to 20 years old (it's got vines like tiny tree branches, its thicc) so I'm not surprised that I grew 7 leaves this month but also, it grew seven leaves this month!

I have potted up the cuttings that I took of my Grandfather's ancestral Holiday Cactus (Schlumbergera truncata) and I can't wait for it to start growing. Also, its counterpart, my African Violet who's named for my Grandmother, is about to start flowering again. Someday I hope to keep them together on my ancestral altar.

I finally have all of my propagations into pots, so of course I need to start some more ASAP. I'm not ready for my Monstera adensonaii to outgrow its support, so I'll probably do a good chop to create a fuller plant. Also my NOID Peperomia "scandens" could use a chop to make it look more even (and eventually fill it out more).

My two "birthday plants" should arrive tomorrow. I ordered a Begonia maculata "Flamingo Queen" because I was looking for a summer bloomer and a Scindapsus pictus Exotica that I'm hoping will live happily in the free window that I still have in my living room. I have a name picked out for the Begonia (my partner wants to name them after a famous Flamingo Queen) but have absolutely no idea what I am going to name the Scindanpsus.

There are outdoor plants, too. Far too many to talk about. My rose bush is in full bloom, as is the first of my Meadow Sages. My Ruta plants have buds, too! (that will be a first, we planted it late in the summer last year) I think that my Calendula and Zinnia starts that I grew from seed will be hardened off enough to plant by this weekend.

I don't know where I'm going with this. It's mostly a record for me. Of this ephemeral moment. Of this ephemeral happiness.
