Today I reached the summit of Eagle Mountain, the highest point in Minnesota. Located in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) a free permit is required to summit. The views from the top are astonishing! There’s more to do at the BWCA than hitting the water, take a hike!
I stayed at Trout Creek Camp, a backcountry campsite on the Superior Hiking Trail, more information at https://youtu.be/d8Y13EdOI4o Trout Creek is only a few miles from the Cascade River State Park parking area and is free! It’s a great place for an overnight backpacking trip.
For more information on this hike, see the trails I’ve added to Hiking Project! Clean drinking water provided by a Sawyer Squeeze https://amzn.to/31FUvuP *.

underwater photography is a whole new set of tricks, but it’s so fun, I’ll never get sick of totally mundane underwater details
the water in our lake is really high in iron so it’s reddish, and not kicking up silt is hard; a snorkel and flotation device would help

BWCAW - Seagull Lake - Day Two
Originally, the plan for our full day on the lake was to take the canoe and head over to Alpine Lake for a day trip, but the wind from the previous day refused to die down. There was a front moving south and we were right in the way of it. We went out paddling a bit, but we were both still sore from the previous day and gave up pretty quickly, spending the day in camp or exploring the woods around the peninsula where we were camping.
For someone who came from Southern Illinois, where it’s still in the 80s, it was a bit of a shock having days barely getting into the 50s. Luckily, we took a little luxury with us, since we weren’t going to be portaging, and had a french press and lots of coffee and hot chocolate.
We had at least three different chipmunks around our camp and a few squirrels. They were quite friendly, I expect because they see so few people they had no reason to be afraid of us.
With the cold air and nothing else to do, we quickly ran through the supply of firewood previous campers had left and had to take the canoe out into our little sheltered bay and steal some more from an abandoned beaver hut.

Representing @creativeanimalfoundation on my camping trips this last week! I couldn't have asked for a better set of trail tools(knife, fork, bowl and chopsticks). They are sturdy (my nieces plastic spoon/fork combo broke), made from sustainable bamboo wood, very light weight, and come with their own case to keep the dirt out. Also great for everyday use at work, when eating carryout, or anywhere you don't have a fully stocked kitchen! When bought through http://www.creativeanimal.org/product/bamboo-kit-black/ a percentage stays with this wonderful nonprofit run by incredible people who dedicate every moment of their lives to protecting this beautiful planet and the unique ecosystems that are in danger due to human consumption! #bwcaw #savethebwca #camptools #guidelife #sustainability #loveyourmother #creativeanimalfoundation #quetico #canoe #camping #remotewilderness #vacations #paddleyourowncanoe (at Quetico, Ontario)
