Secret Lover (reader (fem) x Gerard Pitts) (1959)

summary: Pitts sneaks out his study group in order to go out on a date with you, little does the both of you know, his friends secretly spy on him on his date.

tags: fluff, we need more Pitts recognition, i got my inspiration from the little rascals boat scene, IDK I JUST FOUND THE SCENE CUTE, also no smut becoz well.....Pitts is 17....THATS A LITERAL MINOR, ok lemme start now

a/n: Pitts need more recognition because I love him 😔😔😔😔😔also this is a short one, maybe a bit rushed

Recently, Pitts have always been sneaking out secretly from his study group aka his friends by excusing himself by going to go to the "bathroom" and secretly go to his dorm and enter their just to see you, always sitting by the window, waiting for him with that cute smile of yours, excited to see him, he'd always spend about 30 minutes with you, he thought that his friend wouldn't notice because it seemed they were so focused on their studies but really, they took notice of Pitts and his extended hours in the "bathroom".

The date is October 19, 1959, the time is currently 4:58 pm, Pitts and his friends were studying in the common room for their Trig test that was 2 days away, Pitts was checking his watch every second, waiting till the clock handle ticks to 5:00 pm, because this day was the same day you two were gonna have your date! And the two of you agreed to meet up in Pitts' dorm at 5:00 PM, when the clock ticked to 5pm, Pitts closed his text book softly and stood up.

"Guys, I'll just go to the bathroom for a second alright" he tells his friend group the same excuse as he leaves his things in the table and walks away to leave the common room to the "bathroom"

"Yep, just take your time....Pittsie...." Charlie mutters under his breath as he writes down a few formulas, he suddenly puts his pencil down and turn to his friends, who seemed to be reading or writing something down. "Hey guys, you guys ever noticed how Pitts is always going to the bathroom and taking like 30 minutes, kind of suspicious to me" Charlie says as he figdets his pencils

"hmm, now that you mention..." Knox stops writing and start to think about it, the poets also started to think about it and found it suspicious, Cameron looks outside the Common room, he sees Pitts going to the wrong direction of the bathroom

"hey, why is Pitts going to the right? Isn't the bathroom in the left" Cameron gets more suspicious and Charlie suddenly gets a new idea

"Hey guys! How about we spy on Pitts!" Charlie proposes an idea and the poets started to think about that idea.

"hmm.....I guess you could count me in" Meeks sighs and looks at Charlie.

"I'll go" Neil says excitedly as he looks at Charlie

"if Neil is going...I'm going..." Todd sighs and nods in approval

"Are you kidding me guys? What if we get in trouble!-" Cameron suddenly tries to stop the idea but gets interrupted by Charlie

"Then don't come!" Charlie interrupts Cameron then turns to Knox "You coming with us?"

Knox, hesitating at first but sigh and nod "yeah, I'll come"

Cameron sighs and finally nods in approval, signaling he was gonna go with them too, the poets look outside the Common Room then decided that they all should leave and follow Pitts

"hey, I'm leader alright!" Charlie tells to his friends as they exit the Common Room and followed the same direction Pitts, as they follow his direction, Charlie and the others quickly hide behind a wall, they see that Pitts is trying to unlock his dorm with his keys, whens Pitts finally unlocked his door, he took one last quick glance, hoping no one hasn't caught him yet and enters his dorm.

When Pitts entered his dorm, he saw you sitting by the window, smiling as you wait for him to open the window, he quickly runs over to you and open his window, he quickly opens the window and quickly helps you get in the dorm, when you got in, he smiles excitedly and quickly hugs you, his skin against yours and his heart against yours.

"oh, I missed you so much!" He smiles as he holds your face and kisses your face all over and hugs you tightly.

You looked up at him and smiled "I missed you too" you kiss his cheek softly which made him all giddy and happy.

Meanwhile, the poets have been listening to the conversation by now, there ears against the wooden door as they listened to the two of you, their faces filled with suprise, Pitts? With a girl? No way! He's such a dork, they thought.

"Pitts with a girl? No way this has to be a dream" Charlie shakes his head in disbelief as the poets and him continued to listen.

Meanwhile, the two of you quickly climbed outside of the window and running to the woods, the poets secretly followed and climbed out of the window, they ran and followed Pitts' tracks secretly.

Meanwhile, the two of you have arrived at the lake, you see a boat which was prepared just for you by Pitts, Pitts turned to you and smiled.

"I prepared this boat just for you" he smiles happily as he helps you get in the boat and sooned followed, he prepared this boat just so you two could watch the sunset together. He decided that the best view to watch the sunset was in the middle of the lake.

The two of you sat over eachother, Pitts started to row the boat, you watch him row the boat, with a smile, you suddenly asked him a question.

"Pitts how did you learn to row?" You asked him curiously as you watch d him.

He smiles and chuckles "Ah well, you know, school" he smiles as the two of you arrived at the middle of the lake, he gently brings you next to him and hold you close as he start to play with your hair, he looks down at you sweetly as he leans in and kiss you softly and tenderly, you felt your heart flutter as you start to kiss back.

Meanwhile, the poets watched behind a huge rock, their eyes widened, and mouth agape.

"you can keep kissin' her all you want, but that trig test won't go anywhere" Charlie jokes and chuckles and the poets chuckle with him as they all shake their head in disbelief.

Pitts and you pull away after a while as you two looked at eachother lovingly, though you two were silent, both of your eyes were speaking to eachother, as the sun beams over your face, Pitts smiled and kissed your cheek, you smiled and kissed his cheek back.

"How about we stay a little longer, hm?" He asks you as pushes a strand of hair behind your ear, you smile happily and nod, the two of you cuddle together as the two of you watch the sunset.

"wow, good for them" Knox says, still in disbelief.

"Pitts? Really? That dork?" Cameron chuckles as he shakes his head in disbelief.

"Hey I still need him for my radio" Meeks whined as he sighs

Meanwhile, the two of you looked at eachother and leaned in again to kiss, you two kissed for a long time, while the poets secretly watched the two of you kissed, by now it was getting late.

"alright date is over Pitts you still gotta review for that Trig test" suddenly Meeks shouts to Pitts as he stands up from the huge rock, Pitts and you suddenly get startled.

"W-what-" Pitts says shocked as he gets caught by his own friends, all of the poets stand up, few laughing at Pitts

"Well I don't remember the bathroom being here" Charlie jokes and shrugs.

"w-what- the- What are you guys doing here?!" Pitts says shocked as he holds you close, protectively.

"oh well we just wanted to go to the bathroom, that's it" Neil teases Pitts as they all laugh, the two of you get red from embarrassment as the two of you got caught.

"hey, you should've told us, because I was about to call an ambulence because I thought something was up with your gallbladder" Meeks chuckled as he looked Pitts.

Pitts sigh and finally not gets shy and happy to introduce you to his friends "Well, this is [your name], she's my girlfriend" the poets greeted you back with a smile

"well, were gonna leave the two of you now, oh and next time when you go to the bathroom, make sure to go to the left of the end of the hall, not the woods, alrighty?" Neil teases Pitts one more time as all of the poets laugh and left the two of you alone.

For the rest of the night, the two of you cuddled in the boat as you two had the best moments of your life, even if it was just watching sunset, as long you were with him, and you were with him, the two of you were happy.

This is angst, I warn thou.

Post DPS is quite an interesting discussion to have to be honest, because other than some hc's that some of the actors have, most of those are pretty much future/adult versions of the characters. And not post Neil's death, which means the remainder of their school lives including college.

But we're not gonna go past that, actually, we're just going a week after everything that happened, the week after Mr. Keating's departure and how the poets are all faring.

And this happens to be the topic of today's random angst from me, Charlie Dalton.

Because the thing is, Todd even if he's technically the most affected person out of all the remaining poets, Charlie's the close second, with Cameron being the third.

The three are trapped in their own personal hells.

First is Todd, he has the other remaining poets to be there for him, Meeks, Knox, and Pitts. Hell I'm sure with the stunt he has made at the ending I'm sure there were other kids in their class that he's definitely gotten to become friends with. Though his suffering is more on the side of the 'what-ifs'

What if he said something that night when Mr. Perry came and grabbed Neil from him?

What if he asked Mr. Keating to check up on Neil that night to see if he was okay?

Sure the others always make sure to check up on him to ask if he was alright or had he has eaten, mostly it was Knox who appears but that's due to the other's promise to Charlie. But no matter what he knew that they couldn't help him, it's not that he doesn't appreciate it, but it's the fact that they were not the ones who can help him.

Deep inside he knew what he wanted and knew how impossible his request is. How he knew that he needed Neil, that Neil would smile and tell him it'll be okay and they'll work through it, after all, it has always been Neil there to catch him when he falls in Welton, but now his absence felt so loud, so much so that the thought of it makes tears fall again.

Too many what-ifs and most of it is about that night. And as the years grew by he had grown to hate that day.

Second is Charlie, now the thing is his bravado, and how only two times we see it falter; during Mr. Keating's talk with him post Call from God, and post Neil.

Now, surely he can call or write to the poets but that's not the same, he's too far from them all for him to simply just leave and visit them, and definitely won't be welcomed in Welton by the staff. He's alone, in a new school, a new place filled with strangers when he himself has never fully recovered from Neil. And he doesn't know if he will.

Alone without the eyes of the people he truly trusts is when not only the bravado he's put on truly falls, but the darkness starts seeping in.

After all, everything has been his fault, if he didn't do that Phone call from God stunt Nolan wouldn't have known about their little group, and it wouldn't have jumpstarted the fear of being found out in Cameron's mind.

If he didn't do that then maybe Neil wouldn't have killed himself, because at this moment he feels like he's partly at fault for why Neil did it. How even when the logical side knew that Mr. Perry and hopelessness were the reason, he still blamed himself. He's Neil's bestfriend for Gods sakes! And he wasn't even able to do anything in the end.

And no he couldn't even protect Todd and the other remaining poets, because as much as it was satisfying, he didn't control himself before punching Cameron in the face.

In his room, in a new school, with faces unrecognizable, he felt alone. And yet, he knew deep inside that he need to get better, to be better.

But he prefers to suffer for now because he deserves it.

Lastly is Cameron, none of the other students truly know what happened and why Mr. Keating left, sure the students in the class with the poets overheard what Todd said, but no one knew the full context except the poets.

And that leaves Cameron on his and Char-

Oh right he's gone, Cameron got him expelled how can he forget?

This is just his room now.

It's funny because even if he's in the same building as the other poets, even if he's hurting the same as them, he's alone.

They couldn't even look at him, avoiding him like a plague and he can't help but feel hurt.

And he knows the reason why, and it's something that keeps plaguing his mind, which affects his ability to study, the one thing he only has going for him is being affected by the thing he's trying to run away from. And look at where it brought him.

He just wants everyone to understand his point of view, and why he did things that happened, and he knows that he's not one to ask forgiveness from others, and if he ever does ask he knows it's not a short journey there, this might even be a matter that will stay by his side his whole life, and he doesn't know what to do, for the first time in his life it was a problem that he can't solve by himself, it's not a thing that his brain can fix, he knows he needs- no he wants help.

But then he remembers he was back in his room, at the edge of the bed near the corners with him hugging his knees as tears fall from his cheeks and soft sobs escape his mouth that he is alone.

I know this is rather heavy but I was wondering if you have any death headcannons? For example I headcannon that all the poets are dead by 1990 and I have intracte headcannons for how each of them dies and when. If I'm insane for this please tell me.

i don't always use those in writing and headcanons and stuff but i'm gonna gather the saddest ones i've come up with and put them all in this one post so everyone, take a deep breath, call your therapists, get some water. we're going into it.

also im not elaborating a lot on those and going a little more lighthearted than i prob should bc i dont wanna get depreshun <33 but yh

big tw for death obviously, su*cide, deadly diseases, all of that kinda stuff

okay!!!! let's start with charlie purely bc i feel like it!! lung cancer at age 43. rip king.

cameron got into harvard law right after high school just like his parents wanted and was severely depressed, one day he ran into charlie, they threw hands a little bit, he went home, reevaluated his life choices and kachowed himself. fun. i suppose he'd be around,, 20 years old, maybe a year less or more, so yea cameron was the second one to die of suicide at an incredibly young age. rip king.

ok i'm literally about to get kicked out of the fandom but i,,, highkey rlly love the meeks in vietnam thing. not in a "oh yay meeks dead" way obviously, just in a,, sad way. he didn't, like, get shot and die, though, he was a signaller. he was in charge of communications. he did radio stuff. and he almost survived!! but then he got ALS and died before he returned home rip king. he was around 30 or so.

knox died in a car crash in the 90s rip king

canon knox was murdered by me because he was such a pisshead who doesn't respect women

pittsss uhhh i've actually never thought abt this before i don't want pitts dying like ever, he's far too precious and important. i am never going to discuss the topic of pitts dying ever.

todd technically died of old age around eighty-something, he was the last of the boys to die, but really todd stopped living that morning that charlie woke him up to tell him neil was dead, after that he just existed.

okay let me first of all explain how i got to this conclusion because i had a very specific thought process lol: pitts is the parent of the group, so you two would vibe off of that, but the "always being prepared" and "learning new facts to tell my friends" just scREAMS meeks to me, so here we go :)

i imagine you two first meeting when you're in class together and the teacher is just asking question after question, and the only two people who consistently raise their hands is you and meeks

so the teacher switches off calling on you both and you both give perfect, immaculate answers, to the point where the other can't help but think "i couldn't have said it better myself."

so now meek's interest is piqued

now onto you and pitts ;)

i imagine you two would meet before you and meeks did, so we already got an established friendship before meeks falls head over heels

pitts also loves space and psychology, so you guys always have a shared interest to talk about

idk i mean you're just casual friends! you talk occasionally and wave to each other in the halls, super adorable :)

but then one day meeks sees him wave at you and he's like "???? you know her???" and pitts is like "yeah. she's super nice!"

and now that meeks knows his best friend approves, he falls even more

as much as i love meeks, this boy would not be able to start a conversation with you on his own, but when you get paired up for something in class, it appears he has his opening

i can imagine you slowly warming up to him throughout the conversation and, as you begin to tell him more things about yourself and your interests, his smile just grows as he listens

and he is a GREAT listener

so he remembers all this stuff and introduces you accordingly to the other poets, listing off the things you like with deadly accuracy that makes everybody realize "oh ok so he like. loves her."

HE ALSO LOVES CATS I STG he has one at home and he shows you pictures of him

on your dates i imagine you two just walking around outside, you with your camera, trading random facts back and forth, all while holding hands <3

and every once in a while you let go to take pictures of the nature or something, but you try to sneak meeks into the frame a few times

he thinks he's all slick every time he catches it and puts his hand up to cover his face, but there are a certain few where he doesn't notice, and you catch him on camera

and when you get the film back and show him those pictures, he's at first a bit embarrassed by them

but then you put them on your wall and his heart does happy dances

then one day he steals your camera because he wants to "return the favor"

of course, throughout all of this you become closer with pitts, and now you have a sweet lil bestie trio <3

at the end of the day, it's usually you, meeks, and pitts, sitting and talking about the most random things and wondering how on earth you could've found the world's coolest people so fast

Not really a headcanon, but here's the dead poets as little triumphs I experience in my daily life :)

Neil: getting used to Shakespeare's way of writing and starting to become independent, instead of using translations. Todd: thinking up of the perfect metaphor to fit into the poem I'm writing, with a perfect syllable count and everything. Charlie: making one of those rare jokes/smart ass comments and actually getting people to laugh out loud. Meeks: finally understanding a biology topic after fighting with it for hours. Pitts: managing to get my cat to sit in my lap and cuddle with me. Knox: after many sighs and grumbles, finding an outfit that makes me happy. Cameron: learning a piano piece of a song I like and managing to sync up my playing with the song.

DPS Headcanon 2

I stumbled upon this post by @ameliterature about Neil in a frog hat and I can’t get the thought out of my head, so- I present to you the different ways the poets would react to receiving a frog hat!

(This is the type of hat I imagined btw)

Neil: Have you ever seen a happy boy? Well Neil’s the happiest boy you’ve ever seen after receiving a frog hat! His face would light up once realising what it is and would wear it immediately. He’d prance around the halls of Welton with it on and refuse to take it off for at least a month.

Todd: He wouldn’t show it, but Todd would be over the moon once having this in his grasp. He’d mutter a small thank you and proceed to wear this religiously, kind of like a comfort item. You wouldn’t see him wearing it at Welton, as he’s shy, but he’d wear it to DPS meetings and general outings.

Charlie: He is known for finding unknown uses to the presents he receives. Charlie would be very grateful for the hat, wearing it every so often to piss off Mr Nolan, but he’d use it mostly to fling it at people on campus, as well as going behind the poets and pulling it over their heads (usually Cameron).

Meeks: He isn’t sure what to do with it at first. Since Meeks is a gentleman, he’d thank you and tuck it back away in its bag. One day he’ll realise how useful it is for cold mornings and will start to wear it like any other hat throughout winter. Despite the teasing, he wouldn’t care; it does its job he says.

Pitts: Now this boy would be ecstatic. Pitts would give you a big bear hug once receiving it, placing it atop his head. Kind of a mix of Neil and Todd, he would be super happy to have this, and would wear it during study sessions and anytime he pleased. His hair would make it sit oddly, but he adored the hat.

Knox: It honestly isn’t his type of present. Knox would thank you as anyone would do. He wouldn’t use it much, except on the few days he was alone in his dorm room and decided to take funny selfies with it in the mirror. The present certainly did not go to waste.

Cameron: He would be surprised at first - no one ever gave him such a present. Cameron would give you a side smile and nod. He’d be too shy to wear this in fear of teasing, but he keeps a small box of things he treasures, and you better be damn well sure that hat is in there.

Y'know what's underrated, but brings me a lot of comfort? When someone rants about their interests or some random subject. It's so endearing. Like you felt comfortable enough to talk about something you're passionate about and you shared your joy with me!! It's the best thing ever.

Yes, give me your full analysis on this one chapter from a book you just read. Yes, describe your favourite movies in full detail and tell me what makes them extraordinary. Yes, dissect this one historic event that happened in 16th century England and give me your own theories.

I think this is important, mostly for our neurodivergent peers. When you have a hyperfixation, it's truly freeing and exciting to share your love for this one thing with someone. Let neurodivergent friends info dump and show them you appreciate it.

i was wondering if i could have a dps ❤️?

i never know how to describe myself but here goes:

i'm a 17 year old, 5'4, mixed (black and european) non binary earth being with short curly/coily dark brown hair, nearly black eyes (they're actually really dark brown). i'm a depressed introvert with social anxiety 🤠 i put my alone time above everything else, and i like to do most activities alone (the only person i can spend a lot of time with without draining my social batteries is one of my best friend who's also my soulmate). my love language is touch but i have a slight touch aversion (im a walking contradiction, but like im basically a cat, i love hugs but only when i want them). i love to read, write (shitty poetry and books i'll never actually finish, mostly), watch films and series. i like to write letters to my soulmate and make her little gifts (handmade beaded jewelry, little paintings or drawings,...). i hate hate hate summer, and thrive when it's raining a lot and there's thunder and lightning. i drink mostly tea, coffee and water, i don't like loud noises or loud music (but im listening to music 24/7, mostly hozier, willow, doja cat and the beatles). im the youngest of my uni friend group but im also the mom friend. im a collector (books, plants, jewelry, crystals, funko pops) which means im broke.

the films i rewatch the most are dps, the perks of being a wallflower, pride and prejudice (2005) kill your darlings, and any mcu/harry potter film. i never go out without my rings and my style ranges from dr martens, baggy pants and t-shirt to fancy white blouse, long skirt and heels. i kin todd and meeks but my fav poets are meeks, pitts and charlie!

You've been stuck in Vermont for almost a month due to your parent's new job and it hasn't stopped raining, not that you mind

The one problem about the weather is that rain means staying inside and staying inside means not meeting anyone

That all changes when your parent(s) decide that enough is enough and send you out on your way to town

And who should you bump into but the dead poets themselves, huddled around a table at a small but crowded diner

The bell rings to signal the door of the diner opening and Todd glances up quickly to see who walked in, looked back down, then nearly gave himself whiplash from looking up again as he registers that you, the most good-looking person he had ever seen, just walked in

Neil sees him staring almost immediately and smiles to himself but doesn't say anything

Charlie, on the other hand... he notices and instead of shutting up about it like Neil, he takes it upon himself to go up to you

"Hi, I'm Charlie Dalton. It's pretty crowded in here, but would you wanna join my friends and I at our table?"

You gladly accept and slide into the booth next to Todd, who flushes bright red and keeps his eyes fixed on the table

You follow suit, too nervous to start a conversation until Charlie speaks up again, asking you a million questions

With each answer, Todd begins to fall more and more in love

To the dismay of all of you, a few hours later you insist that you should be on your way

Before you can make it far down the street, Todd jumps up all of a sudden and sprints up to you

"Todd?"

"Uh... I-I..." he stammers, then takes a deep breath and whispers, "Could... could I maybe see you again?"

"I'd like that," you smile and, before you can lose the courage, kiss his cheek quickly and run off with a smile spreading across your face

I guess I have 2 questions. Are the characters happy with their lives and what they turned out to be, and more specifically what are their career choices.

so i'm guessing you just mean like the original seven boys, so i'm gonna do this character by character

todd: became a writer. he writes primarily poetry, but has a couple of essays and novellas. consistently gets on the NYT best-sellers list. he's not a celebrity per se, like he doesn't need to Salinger-hide, but he's very well-known. he is happy that writing became his career, but considers his family his greatest achievement (awwww). he feels that he pushed his limits and took risks and challenged his ideas, like keating taught him to do. the main thing he remains "safe" about is his sexuality. rumors fly about todd anderson in the Literary Community that he's gay n such, and he never responds to it bc he knows that may put his family in danger. he wishes it were different.

knox: lawyer, a pretty good one too. i pictured him doing corporate law and having his dad's firm. he doesn't live lavishly, but his family is wealthy, nice cars, nice suits, nice homes. he's pleased with his career. he's still a himbo, but he's not a player or a creep. he's not the perfect dad or husband, and he recognizes that his work gets in the way of personal relationships.

pitts: before vietnam, worked in radio and tv, fixing stuff and being techy. after returning from vietnam, he sort of lost the ability to care for himself. over the years, he's healed a lot, but he is not the gumbo boy we saw in the movie. he had to move closer to his family and allow his parents to dictate his life while he recovered, hence why his son attends welton. losing meeks and the tragedy of war gets to him a lot. but like todd, he finds happiness in his wife and children. for what life could have become, he's happy with how he ended up. he just knows he could have had more freedom and could have granted his children a better childhood. (obviously that's like not his fault, but he feels like it is)

i'll tack on meeks: before vietnam, he also worked in radio. he was bright-eyed, looking forward to the future and starting a family. he was happy.

cameron: some may say becoming the headmaster of your high school isn't amounting to much, but cameron really loves it. was a teacher before and students liked him a lot. he was as lenient as he could be without being considered a "keating". that said, being a high school teacher—even at Welton—doesn't pay bills very well, and he and wifey fell on hard times quite a lot. when the kids came along, it got harder. so he doesn't love where things are at at the start of the story, but he thinks things are looking up between him and wife and kids. (he is wrong, but that's not the point)

last, and littlest, charlie: i based charlie mostly on what mr gale hansen said in that one podcast. he did his stint of "carpe"-ing but was forced to settle down and do whatever people on wall street do. it never made him happy. he married women he didn't love, or maybe loved for a moment. he loves his kids though, sees neil in all of them. he burns his career and ends up back in Welton. obviously the last place he would ever want to be, but he's going to make the most of it. he's on the up, but definitely does not feel he carped enough in his life.

also like how are the poets friendships gonna work w/ each other - like who's gonna be closer i mean pitts and meeks duo is kinda dead like the anderperry and charlie and neil duo so im interested in knowing how their dynamic is gonna be

okay cameron's character: the easy thing to do would be to make him a bitch with a stick up his ass, but he's more complex than mr. nolan

he's more respected by students and he's a lot nicer to them. he abides by parents (and the school board's) wishes to keep Welton conservative and traditional, but he wants it to prosper and progress so the students aren't stuck in the past all the time (hence why he combines Welton and Henley and starts admitting girls into Welton). he runs a tight ship though, tries to keep his students in line

he keeps a close eye on the children of his former friends, he has a soft spot for them

when he finds out about dps, he's more concerned about what they discussed in the meetings than like the non-conformist poetry part of it. i don't want to spoil too much, but he's worried about the kids' well-beings. but since they were sneaking out, skipping extracurriculars, and doing the non-conformist poetry part, he has to play bad cop. kinda like how stealing is illegal, even when you're stealing a loaf of bread for starving children. he understands why, but he still has to bring the hammer down

per the group's dynamic, a couple of things: i am doing the whole meeks-goes-to-vietnam-and-doesn't-come-back bc i need a kid's parent to be unreasonable and akin to mr. perry, without just Doing mr. perry again. so... no steven meeks :( if mr ruggiero hadn't said that's what would happen, i probably wouldn't do it, but now it's all i think

i'm writing this as though todd hasn't had much connection with the rest of the Crew since they left Welton, just occasional things like weddings and funerals. at the beginning of the story, i'd say he's closest with pitts and checks in with him a lot, but they're not like regularly drinking beer on the back porch or anything. but he's very much in a different world than the rest of the group; doesn't send his kid to Welton, lives near a city, j chillin'

pitts is pretty down in the dumps to say the least, with his bff gone and he's a vietnam veteran so he's sad, to put it mildly. bc of this, all the guys check in with him often, so he's kind of the hub if you will. he knows what's happening with everyone and with their kids (like what sports they do n stuff). he sees knox and cam since all of their kids go to Welton, but they're not besties anymore

cam is in an odd position friend wise, bc he's the headmaster so he sees everyone a lot, but as parents of his students, so he's not buddy-buddy with them necessarily

charlie has just returned to welton so he's getting reacquainted with everyone again. before the story starts, he and cam spend the summer together as he gets ready to start teaching (i know that sounds gay, but it's not, unfortunately), so he and cam are probably the closest. that said, he is the first one of the group todd opens up to , so he and todd become close again.

omg and then mr william meeks. yeah, none of them like him. he's EXACTLY like their parents. pitts is familiar with him since he's the brother of his dead best friend, but he doesn't like him.

ALL OF THAT SAID, they are not best friends anymore. so they don't have a great group dynamic necessarily, which i know was kinda the question so... sorry i'm still figuring it out lol again if i can clarify anything, ask away. this is good for me lol
