There's something so insane to me about being able to create and recreate vintage or even ancient music, clothes, fabrics, building architecture, anything, really.

I watched this video about a lady who knit a WWII-era vest, and it was really unique, because the cable work would eat up yarn, when there were shortages of fibers. This pattern would have likely been used by people to send overseas to soldiers, and now it's being created in a time where this war has been over for generations. What were the people making this pattern thinking of? What about the people making the vest? Could they fathom a world where world wars didn't happen back to back? Could they imagine what peace felt like, or did it fade like a distant memory, a faint friend? All we have now are the remnants of their efforts, a "simple" vest that would warm the bodies of countless people the knitter would never have imagined were here on earth with them.

actually. the specific phrasing that boy Kevin wants to kill older Kevin with "I must disassemble him, piece by piece, so that everything inside of the Old Kevin comes out. Only then can the New Kevin truly begin." is so incredibly the idea that to heal from trauma and "improve" you have to destroy every "wrong" part of yourself, that everything "tainted" by it has to somehow be replaced by something untouched (which isn't possible)

i don't know if i think it's really funny or kind of a shame that many people are going to know tadaima okaeri solely as "the omegaverse bl" when it's actually such a sweet slice-of-life about community, family, the struggles of the older generation to understand the younger and vice versa, recovering from social isolation and how recursive that recovery can be, forging lasting friendships as adults, and so on. it's so wholesome and drama-free that it barely has any plot to speak of, but what it lacks in plot it makes up for in themes and man. what beautiful themes

Desperately need to find another currently ongoing podcast to listen to. I have nothing in my feed that releases new episodes except for MBMBAM and that's not nearly as exciting as I'd like it to be haha

I’m a gureshin shipper but to be honest I have been losing my passion for this ship for some time now. It’s just that it has been so long since we had any content of them. Last time we got a scene of them in the manga was almost 3 years ago. The only content we got of them during this time was the Cat16 manga, which although I really enjoyed, at the end of the day it was an adaptation. Ever since it ended on February (I think?) everything has been duller. There isn’t even anything that hints that the Wrat19 novels will ever be continued again. Many fans left over the time and it has been so long that I even forgot the usernames of those mutuals I used to interact with. Naturally there isn’t that much gureshin fanwork anymore. I miss those times 2 years ago where there were so many Cat16 and Wrat19 analyzes and theories, and even when we created a gureshin group chat here. It was so fun. It’s like a small fandom on its own. So I would compare this to being in a fandom for a manga/LN that stopped serialising years ago. Monotony.

I guess I got a bit emotional. But seriously when I saw the “most memorable scene” for the gureshin prompts, it took me quite some time to think of something because I don’t remember what happened in the LNs as well as I used to in the past, and I don’t feel interested enough to go back and reread it. So in the end my choice isn’t something “memorable” to me at all. At the very least I wish I could have hopes because naturally Shinya has to appear in the future, but considering how things have been going on in the manga for these last years, I am not sure that when the time comes the story will actually deliver. I know I shouldn’t be assuming something that the author hasn’t written yet but I cannot help but to feel this fear in me. Elements (characters, relationships, arcs, etc.) that should have been given their proper focus have been just rushed or done half assedly for the sake of fulfilling (or as I prefer to say: “ticking boxes”). It’s as everything “secondary” (which I categorise gureshin as) has been pushed aside for the sake of prioritising the “main” elements (or rather “element without s”) of the story. It doesn’t help either that the more time passes, the more Guren is written as an asshole and the more his relationship with Mahiru is painted in a white light.

I am writing this because I haven’t really talked about gureshin in a long time so I felt like finally expressing my thoughts. I’ll still take part in the gureshin week, because at the end of the day gureshin is something that matters to me.

Another thing that I've learned as I have undertaken my craft is just how satisfying it is to use what you make - to have known that you made it. Even now as I make my big project, the fabric is big enough that it's warming my lap up as I make it - even that is satisfying.

People want to make an effort - even small ones. What people don't like is pseudowork - bullshit jobs. Honestly, it's partly tragic to think about, partly infuriating.

After my last post I decided to sit down and rank all the possible companion pairs. here is the tierlist, should you wish to fill it out yourself.

This is a "ship" chart, but it's important to clarify that I am interested in how the dynamic works overall, not just romantically. I am very invested in how the stories of different characters overlap, and how they could mesh together to change both people involved. so the more interesting I find an individual character, the more likely they are to be higher in the chart.

How interesting I find characters also usually translates to my desire (or lack thereof) to draw them. So my likeliness to draw a pairing is the scale I used to describe each tier, rather than a nebulous "S," "B", or "F." This way, I feel it is better understood exactly why each pair is placed where it is.

Once again, sorry to those who enjoy miss SH. I do not hate her, I just do not find her to be an especially compelling character. I like the voice acting for her, but I don't care for her design, and I feel any element of her story is simply better explored in those of other characters.

*Special Exception 1: I have to split this pair off specifically, because I've thoroughly disparaged it in the past, based on erroneous judgments of halsin's character. when I first played the game, I locked myself out of a lot of Act 2 dialogue with him, which meant I missed the parts of his character that I do find interesting. I will say, it does still deeply bother me how much of his character revolves around sating the sexual desire players might have for him. I also hate that, as far as I'm aware, he can only acknowledge the player's relationship with astarion in the context of having sex. But after spending an entire campaign playing the game correctly, trying to learn as much about halsin as I could, and thus romancing him, so that I could properly judge him, I have grown attached to my rewritten version of him. so I'm not so much fond of the star/halsin pair as it is in game, as I am of that dynamic in the context of corydalis' campaign.

*Special Exception 2: after what happened with halsin, I feel it would be unfair to judge how interesting I might find minthara's relationship with most of the other companions, given that I've not yet had the opportunity to recruit her. despite this, I can safely say that I have no interest in whatever would likely play out between her any of the men, bar gale. gale is the exception because I've seen snippets of dialogue between them. I do not necessarily think they'd work together romantically, but again, it's more that the potential dynamic between them is interesting to me, regardless of the type of relationship they have. also, I do not categorise all other minthy x male companion pairs as bad because I am of the belief that she is not bisexual. I have faith that this game would make an effort to show us that she was a different identity, were she, because it already does a great job of affirming every other companion's bisexuality outside their potential relationship to the player. what I do not have faith in, however, is that minthy has as beautifully written a story as lae'zel does, where she learns to abandon the cruel and bigoted beliefs her society indoctrinated her to have. not when origin companions like wyll & karlach still lack material, and not when halsin's writing is as inconsistent as it is. I do not think that either halsin or minthy have, or will ever have, fully fleshed out narratives.

if you've interesting commentary about a particular pairing that you like, that you feel I might benefit from reading, do feel free to share it! even if I dislike a pairing, I am usually willing to read someone's thoughts about why they do find it interesting, granted it's not like...something utterly foul. I just ask you keep any commentary you choose to share to companion/companion pairs or companion/companion pairs in the context of polyamory with a tav/durge. NPC romance is another conversation.
