MEET BRODY THE SUPER MULTI-SPECIAL
Hi. My name is Evan and I’m hoping to put my seldom-used Tumblr to good use showing you this little guy. I’m fostering him via Farfel’s Rescue - I got him on Tuesday the 4th. He showed up to Farfel’s in Boulder on the previous Friday March 31st from a Houston shelter and they’d given him the name “Bryce” but this little spunky dude of guesstimate under or right at 1-yr old seemed like a great “bro” to me hence Brody. He seems to like it. But whatever: Here’s what I want to share about this amazing little sweet soul.
1A. (See pics, gifs and videos in posts below.)
1. He has so many strengths. His weakness? He’s got - for reasons as of this post on April 9 unknown - some sort of issue with flickering eye movements that are no doubt connected to behavior that you’d swear is that of a sight impaired pup. He bobbles his head a bit. When you call him he looks around for you even if you’re pretty close. He also circles a bit. But guess what: He’s been to the vet and is improving slowly for certain. In fact when he arrived on the 31st, apparently his symptoms were really a LOT worse. The vet from Lakewood - Dr G at Red Rocks Animal Clinic who Farfel’s uses - looked him over yesterday the 8th and is thinking it could simply be an infection. He is on prednisone now - a steroid. To me after a lot of time and now some routine and a lot of observations - I say whether or not this issue goes away, that Brody is GREAT.
2. Now then: Back to those strengths I mentioned. He is chill. For a pup. He likes to play and has this “excited bark” thing that will. Melt. Your. Heart. He eats like a champ. Easy. He drinks water easy, goes pee outside every time he is let out, poops like clockwork. Loves walks. Doesn’t chew possessions (so far ;-). He cuddles. He trusts you and that’s it. He’s in. He sleeps through the night on the bed like the easiest dog ever. Seriously easy. He loves the car. Nothing really bugs him.
3. But a few things more to know: Because of his kind of sight/neuro issue (again, we have no way of knowing what this is yet - awaiting a blood test result and we will rule out tumor then) he can get a bit confused sometimes. Again this seems to be improving. But you have to be patient with Brody. That’s all it is.
4. Connect with his deal and you will love it as it is. He is special and GOOD. The reason I’m not keeping him myself has to do with my lifestyle and home: I travel often for one to three week stretches. And I’m solo. So it doesn’t make sense for me or Brody unless I took him with me on my trips and I just can’t. Plus right now Brody is not good with stairs (though we are making progress) and my house is a three level. I’m wrestling with this still but my job is going well here and I’m so happy to be doing it: giving him stability and consistency and building his confidence and trust and by God just helping him have fun and recover from God only knows what crappy time he’s had til now. He is recently fixed, has that great shiztzu hair that is crazy soft, let’s you help groom him without fuss.
5. I think Brody personally loves other dogs and they love him! I’ve had him with two friends’ dogs so far and they loved him and he them. Only thing: if time passes and he forgets they’re around - then if the other dog surprises Brody, Brody will get defensive. This is not a big issue in my opinion because I think Brody would get used to another dog easy. These interactions I witnessed were after only being around the other dogs for less than an hour. That said, Brody gets territorial with my van when we go to town and he hangs out in it. Which is just watchdog stuff. Nothing big but you have to kinda slow it down a couple notches with saying hi to him with strangers and let him meet slowly if he’s in “his space.” But do it smart and no problem.
6. Brody ONLY needs a consistent loving forever person who GETS HIM and ACCEPTS him and then his numerous BIG BEAUTIFUL strengths will totally run the show. I love him already. I can tell he loves me. I say this only cuz it’s gonna be hard to let him go for me and cuz it shows how great he is. It’s gotta be terrifying all he’s dealt with and with the move just one week in. And here he is already. Winning hearts and being happy. He’s a total winner. I’d be happy to stay in his life if he finds a forever person in my area. If that would be of interest. Just to tell you how much I hope he soars in life if I can help I will. Seriously he is RAD. You just gotta get him. Accept him. Love him UP. AND REAP THE BRODYMAN REWARD.
