I mean Jaime probably isn’t good enough for Brienne but if she wants the weird incestuous rat man who are we to stop her

Send me a 🎭 and I’ll recast your muse!
I had several ideas here, most of them were unconventional and half of them weren’t blonde at all. But I would like to make the case for Clea DuVall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She does not have a conventional look to her, combined with the freckles and that awkward little smile of hers- even without the blue eyes, I think she channels a lot of that Brienne energy. Briennergy, if you will.

In modern asoiaf brienne still swears fealty to cat because she breaks her arm while she’s out dirtbiking with renly and co. and since none of them have ever broken their arm before, brienne convinces herself she’s faking it and continues biking and all of her friends are a little bit high and manage not to notice. the only reason brienne gets to the hospital at all is because loras was forced to bring margaery because mace is super overprotective and wouldn’t let her stay home alone even though she’s fifteen so she’s sitting on a lawn chair outside the bike loop wearing yellow heart shaped sunglasses and drinking lemonade while drawing a star chart for sansa, and she sees brienne ride by with a clearly broken arm and is like “dude. the fuck happened to you” and renly hears this and is like “shit your dad’s gonna kill me” so he and loras drive brienne to the emergency room but they ask if they can leave because hyle and the gang are still dirtbiking and brienne says sure she’ll be fine so she sits in the emergency room for a few hours until someone gets her and cat turns out to be her nurse and sets her bones all the while talking about her various problems because she is Stressed Out™️ (her son bought his girlfriend a promise ring, her younger son’s physical therapy isn’t going well, her daughter bit a kid yesterday) and brienne is totally unresponsive, like not even blinking, so cat assumes she can’t hear her, and when cat finally finishes, brienne, who is actually just super nervous and was trying to be polite by not interrupting, looks up at the woman who has just given her attention and mild painkillers and fixed her bones with eyes full of love and is like. Do you know that I would die for you and cat, unsure of what to say, is like 👍.
on the way back from the emergency room renly and loras manage to crash renly’s 2023 Subaru forester into a tree for unrelated reasons and this is somehow blamed on brienne.

i used to wish that brienne would get knighted in an official capacity in the actual books, but i have evolved. knighting is the soul-killer if you have a connection to the throne! all of brienne's chapters lead back to the idea of still being good and still wanting to be good, in spite of everything and everyone. the white cloak kills the boy. the gold cloaks kill the boy. even the tourneys, to an extent, kill the boy. brienne's power comes from the fact that she is still the boy! killing the boy is ruining her! what is the point of her choosing between oaths and otherwise if it does not lead her back to the same point!

never be able to put into words how I felt reading the jb storm arc the first time. like. these two knights who are also not knights who hate each other but also rely on each other and who will both protect whatever part of the other that they value most (Jaime’s betrayal of Aerys was based on how much he values innocent life, and he protects Brienne’s at great expense to himself, obviously Brienne values honor and she protects Jaime’s at great expense to herself). Brienne coveting aspects of Jaime’s identity because he got to be a knight but also resenting him for throwing that away, Jaime coveting aspects of Jaime’s identity for still being the sort of boy he had to kill, but also resenting her because she didn’t have to do that to herself. Both eventually deciding they’re worth more than that. And it all happens in the FUCKING RIVERLANDS

asoiaf predictions that will probably make people mad
sansa politically marries that guy whatshisface. kills littlefinger in self defense either via moon door or very fancy knife, possibly also poison. declares her husband regent of the vale in littlefinger's absence, and quickly allies herself with daenerys as dany pushes west. they fall in love, the embodiment of ice and fire.
brienne doesn't kill jaime bc honestly where would that leave the rest of us. anyway. they probs talk their way out of fighting lady stoneheart and either jaime dies fighting the others, leaving brienne to hedge knight her way around in his honor, or they disappear into the riverlands, never to be heard from again.
if any of the key five die (again), it's gonna be dany, but not in a mad queen way, but in self-sacrifice against the others after her conquest of westeros, which started with dragonstone. thematically implies that the reason daenys had that vision in the first place was so that the targaryens would continue on and produce dany in order to save the world. somehow the destruction of the iron throne will factor in, having served its distorted purpose in keeping the targaryen line alive long enough to create daenerys. this either kills drogon or sends him off toward the sunset sea.
dragonrider bran. either he or jon will rule westeros, don't know which.
speaking of jon, he's going to Come Back Wrong somehow. I think it'll be a targaryen-related way, but he's gonna eventually come around with his stark heritage. if he doesn't end up king of the seven kingdoms, he'll be king beyond the wall.
i don't know what's going to happen to arya. i think she'll surprise me, but i'm certain she's not gonna be lady of winterfell. i think that contradicts too much of her personal convictions about her purpose in life.
contrary to popular belief, i think there's only a 50/50 chance tyrion's gonna be a dragonrider. he's going to come over with dany but he will either choose to return to essos, searching for tysha or possibly accepting the reality of her death, or he'll stay on in westeros as jon's hand of the king. either way, penny will be a significant deciding factor.
stannis kills davos. not as a murder plot, but it's gonna be like. a whole thing.
missandei is protected and cared for and she writes a history of dany's brief reign as an adult(manifesting) and rickon is undeniably Odd now but he's going to be okay and somehow ends up the most normal brother. absolute tourney knight of a fellow (manifesting).
and last but not least, cersei is not killed by either of her brothers, although i think there's a slim chance she kills jaime, which triggers her death. she will be killed by one of her own plots, probably one related to wildfire, but being cersei, she will internalize it as a death by tyrion's hand.

How POV Characters In ASOIAF Feel About Halloween
Ned - likes Halloween for the sake of the kids, but you cannot tell me this man wouldn't do a dramatic performance in which one of the direwolves eats him. Also for his children's benefit of course, but he enjoys it.
Cat - the mom who hands out healthy snacks. She probably has a very corny sweater with a ghost pun on it.
Dany - she is also an ugly Halloween sweater person. She also would have a matching costume with all of her dragons. Probably a bat.
Tyrion - he might take Tommen and Myrcella trick or treating, but that would be the extent of his involvement. Maybe he reads some Stephen King to get in the feeling of the season.
Jon - emulates the older brother in Hocus Pocus. He takes Arya around and as the cool emo brother, he's legally obligated to be miserable the whole time. He secretly loves it.
Bran - really good at freaking everybody out. A little too good.
Sansa - allegedly hates Halloween. She stays inside, yes, but because she is watching every single Jordan Peele movie and scaring herself shitless. She has seen Us twelve times. This has not made her any more normal about it.
Arya - is dressed as a werewolf. She insists on crawling on all fours the entire night. She also howls about every five minutes.
Melisandre - is literally that person who everyone compliments on their costume despite the total absence of a costume. She is doing witchery, but she will leave out a bowl of candy anyway.
Sam - using the occasion as an excuse to make a full cosplay. He won't be wearing it anywhere, but he enjoys the creative process.
Cersei - watching a Saw marathon and taking diligent notes.
Asha and Theon - Asha has convinced Theon to toilet paper someone's house. She will leave him there and call the cops herself. He will be bailed out three hours later, claiming that he's learned his lesson. This is the the third year in a row this has happened.
Brienne - let her carve a pumpkin PLEASE

not to feastpost but oh my god. oh my god. the death of the boy happening in real time in the Sam chapter, with the death of vows as he moves away from the wall. Jaime spending the whole book trying to move on his grief from the boy HE killed (who is himself), but realizing he cannot when he has given the two most important women in his life (Cersei and Brienne respectively) pieces of that boy. Tywins death representing the culmination of Lannister Family Rot ™️ which is then contained in Cersei who is unable to handle it because she resents the rot as much as she thrives in it. Brienne choosing herself and the people around her over her ideals, realizing that her honor will not save her. Brienne and Jaime constantly mentioning each other in their chapters as a form of connection, romantic or not, that is reciprocated even if they don’t know it, meanwhile Cersei constantly mentions her connection to Jaime assuming they still share it and it fades and it keeps fading. Arya becoming no one, and yet she cannot be no one because she cannot escape herself or her blood. Sansa losing herself again and again, becoming no one more every day, out of fear. The struggle at the kingsmoot as a metaphor for identity and confirmation of it. Victarion grasping at straws and Asha demanding to be seen when no one looks at her. Aeron only having a good concept of his own identity because he gave up on the throne, and even then he is only the drowned god’s servant. The same thing happening in Dorne, Arianne losing herself as she loses her trust in Doran. Arys being unsure of himself as he sullies the white cloak and Areo understanding himself completely. Medieval roles and society as a metaphor for identity and loss of identity and THAT is why A Feast For Crows is unparalleled.

aging up show!Brienne had such potential because Bri is the way that she is because she hasn't been out in the world very long and hasn't had the chance to get to know people or have any realizations about herself. where would she end up, if she was able to run around being a hedge knight for long enough? would she be more confident or more of a pariah? would she have found a way to overcome her insecurities or would they have deepened? would her old traumas still be so significant or would they be replaced?

As a genderless individual, the character of Brienne has always felt so welcoming for me. Our other main gnc character, Arya, also welcomes a trans reading, but they’re very different readings.
Arya doesn’t necessarily fit into a standard gender label and many people do refer to her as a boy, but she is very insistent of who she is. She has an identity, and while that identity isn't strictly binary, she is still accepted in either side, more or less. While she feels alienated by traditional femininity, she still insists that she belongs in some form of it.
Brienne, on the other hand, feels rejected by both sides of the binary. She is not womanly enough to be a lady but not manly enough to be a knight. Everything that she is rejects the concept of a binary and so she herself rejects that. She is everything she isn't supposed to be. She betrays so many rigid concepts in Westerosi society that she doesn't believe she has any sort of place in it.
And I'm supposed to be normal about that?

The thing about grrm is that at any moment he could say brienne had a crush on catelyn and I would immediately believe it and count her as very good bi representation that doesn’t fall into negative stereotypes but if anyone else did that I’d call it queerbaiting
