Bringing Fall Home
Happy first full week of autumn! As much as I’m sad to see the sunshine go away, I have to say, fall is my favorite season. Just because summer is (officially) over, doesn’t mean you have to jump full throttle into the next season. Here are a few ways to lightly transition from summer to fall, without covering your entire home in pumpkins. I’ve also thrown in a couple fashion ideas to help ease yourself in wardrobe wise too!
1 Layering part one: Adding an extra pillow here, a throw there, and even layering a smaller wool rug on top of a big sisal rug you had out all summer are super quick and easy ways to say hello to fall. Interior by Jeffrey Bilhuber
2 Dressing the table: Add a tablecloth or a runner to a bare summer table, even if you’re not dining at it. Bowls of stone fruit, and a simple arrangement of market dahlias or chrysanthemums take it further up a notch. Gingham ‘Cafe’ linens from Heather Taylor Home
3 Layering part two: Don’t just layer your home, but think about layers for yourself. It might not be coat or sweater weather yet, depending where you live, but I can say that where I live the temp definitely drops from day to night, so you have to be prepared. A light quilted jacket or cardigan is a great place to start. Full look from J.Crew
4 Fall textures: Just like you start wearing warm and cozy textures, your home can too. Sweater-like throws, and pillows warm up your space, literally! ‘Cozy Sweater Knit’ blanket and pillows from Pottery Barn
5 Transitional accessories: No need to put away your mini skirts and short dresses, ever actually. One way to make them fall ready is with accessories like ankle boots. ‘Stevie’ ankle boots from J.Crew
6 Moody hues: A black painted piece of furniture, deep toned flowers in dark ceramics, and iron or rusty metal accessories are a few more simple ways to cozy up your space. Room via Martha Stewart Living
7 Seasonal blooms: An arrangement added to the coffee or dining table is essential year-round, but it’s all about the flowers you choose. Dahlias are a perfect summer to fall flower, as well as hydrangeas. The latter is fading where I am, but is just as pretty slightly dried. Flowers by Rana Flora
8 Layering part three: Don’t forget the bed! No need to swap your linen sheets for flannel yet, but think about tossing on an extra blanket or lightweight quilt. Bedding by Jake Arnold for Parachute
9 The finishing touch: Just like pillows, and decorative accessories finish a room, jewelry and other fashion accessories finish your look. I love this layered jewelry look with the addition of a silk scarf by Lizzie Fortunato. Also, that ‘Prairie’ necklace in wood is everything!
10 Good lighting: With the days getting shorter, and the weather soon to change (9 months of rain where I am), lighting is so important to keep your mood up, and warm up your home. Might as well be pretty too! Chunky wood or pottery table lamps, or unlacquered brass and bronze floor lamps should be dotted throughout a space. Never rely on overhead lighting, regardless of the season. ‘Abigail’ ceramic lamp in “unglazed toast” from Rejuvenation
Happy fall y’all!!

Brian’s Favorite Things- 10 Favorite Looks by Alber Elbaz for Lanvin
The fashion world lost one of its greatest talents on Saturday, Alber Elbaz. Alber was the Creative Director of Yves Saint Laurent for a few seasons, but followed that up by designing most notably at Lanvin for 14 years. He just debuted his first collection for his own brand this past December called AZ Factory. I’ve been looking through his collections at Lanvin with both sadness and joy, because the latter was what he was best known for as a person, and in his designs. So how do you choose just 10 looks to celebrate the life of a fashion legend? Well, it wasn’t easy! I’ll also always remember his amazing jewelry. RIP Alber💔

Brian’s Favorite Things- Top 10 Looks: Resort 2021
Happy 2021! Although many of the resort collections have already started to hit stores, a good portion of it will be what you’ll be shopping from first this new year. These collections were especially challenging considering they were the first to be created during the pandemic, but designers didn’t let that hinder them. In fact, I think the lockdown actually helped with the creativity. Here are my favorite looks from the resort collections!
1 Stella McCartney; this dress is especially unique. It’s made from strips of past-season fabrics
2 Ellery; another note of the reuse of fabric, the sleeves on this look are a fabric from a favorite past-season dress
3 JW Anderson
4 Petar Petrov
5 Jil Sander
6 Bottega Veneta
7 Altuzarra
8 Marina Moscone
9 Gabriela Hearst; when you can’t use a model because of a pandemic, model the clothes yourself! Also, I’m so excited to see what Gabriela brings to her new role at Chloé!
10 Sacai
