Turnover feat. Brendan Yates - “Myself In the Way”
Tumblr media
“Myself In the Way”, the lead single from Turnover’s new album due out this autumn, marks a collaboration long time coming between the transcendental Virginia punk-turned-chillout music band and modern hardcore’s biggest influencers at the moment. Both toured with each other back in ‘19, and Turnstile have also shown their freaky psychedelic pop side in spaces between their own albums as well as remixes, so to have Brendan Yates appear on Turnover’s latest step toward dance music for weed-smoking hardcore listeners searching for an inner balance and clarity through calmer vibes is a path clearly seen.

Turnover’s Myself In the Way will be released November 4th on Run for Cover Records.

Video: Mall Grab feat. Brendan Yates - “Understand”
Tumblr media
The UK-by-way-of-Australia DJ and producer Jordan Alexander, b.n.a. Mall Grab, has been on these pages’ radar for a few years now with putting out a prolific run of singles and EPs, and becoming something of a cult fav among other purveyors of the underground through collaborations with fellow techno purist Yaeji and a remix EP alongside hardcore genre transcendentalists Turnstile. Mall Grab hasn’t released a proper debut full-length in all this time, however, but that will soon change when he releases something akin to a full realization of his work with What I Breathe, due out this August.
Having made creative friends along the way is a huge lift in this instance, as the electronic artist -- whose style he identifies as “elements of emotional but hard and pumping club music... intertwined with house, jungle, rave, and grime” -- invites artists into his synthetic fold. UK scene producer and songwriter Nia Archives and grime MCs D Double E and Novelist are featured, as is a reunion with Turnstile’s Brendan Yates on the album’s first preview “Understand.” Again, the collaboration between the pair from opposite corners in the sonic spectrum makes for dance-worthy abrasion between Yates’ screams bleeding into Mall Grab’s glassy surface.
In the listen’s music video, we get a slice of life look at Alexander’s life as he hits the studio, hangs around a farm, and takes to the beach alongside some dog friends. Watch and listen below...

Mall Grab’s What I Breathe will be released August 5th on Looking for Trouble.
