i hate Squirrelflight (Brambleclaw kinnie here) and ya'll are...kinda shit at presenting her character correctly?
like yeah idrc if people see her as a victim and Brambleclaw as her abuser. go ahead, the books are shit and interpretations CAN logically vary that much. however, the amount of times i've seen people infantilizing Squirrelflight and making her out to be a helpless damsel in distress who can't do anything but be sad and cry.
not all victims are like that. Squirrelflight, see her as victim or not, objectively ISN'T like that and it's so fucking gross to me as an abuse victim myself. Squirrelflight is a confident, reckless and strong-willed character, not a little girl who got bullied by the mean big bad Bramleclaw sad face. victims can fight back, and Squirrelflight does. if you're going to make Squirrelflight a victim, which there is no problem with doing, make it accurate. if i, someone who hates Squrrielflight, can do her character better then someone who loves her? that's sad.

What are ur thoughrs on ppl who deffend brambletrash and excuse him being a POS to squirrelfight judt bc "she wqs mean to him when she was an apprentice" or something along those lines ? Bramble stans have to be the most migraine inducing people EVER
Disclaimer: I stopped reading around Bramblestar's storm, and while I keep up with the fandom and don't mind spoilers, I'm only talking about the canon until that point. Otherwise, I don't have a fandom license.
And the TLDR of it is: I personally find them annoying, but with the Warriors fandom being full of Bramble bashers and antis, it kind of makes sense why they are that way. Most of these people are trying to pre-emptively defend themselves from unwarranted negative opinions of their posts.
Okay, I don't like people that defend characters on principle, (even I defend Miu a little bit since she suffers from poor translation choices people might not know about) because people should be able to like the most toxic characters imaginable without having to explain themselves to strangers.
Trying to say your fave didn't do anything wrong isn't healthy to fandom. That being said, with the current fandom culture, I understand why they did it.
Warriors writing has changed so much over the years, that arc 2 bramble and current bramble are different people, and not in a "he grew up and changed as a person sort of way." Saying that inconsistent warrior cats writing is completely uninvolved in this current squabble is a D tier take.
That being said, I don't like that all of the conflict resolution for Arc 2 (Squirrelflight being mean to Bramleclaw, but also Brambleclaw treating Squirrelflight like a dumb kid when that isn't who she is anymore) was mostly offscreen. We had a whole writing piece on when she decided to take in the kits, and we couldn't spare the time for one flashback?
(Tangent, I hate the warriors writers for treating infertility like a tragedy, and not just that they'll have to adopt kits now. People in my family are infertile, and it just rubs me the wrong way. Like, if you get a vision from Starclan that you're never going to be able to birth kits, and then some kids "randomly" show up, people will be sympathetic to you if you ask to raise them once they are weaned.)
You could argue these conversations didn't happen, but I think with their power of three characterizations seeming more stable, I'm personally assuming they did.
The one thing I really disagree with in the "Brambleclaw bad" narrative (and this is coming from an Ashfur fan!) is that he's a dick for not wanting to talk about it with her. She lied to him for years, which is even longer in the cat equivalent. She only came clean to him due to outside forces demanding it. What else could she hide from him with a clean conscious?
So Brambleclaw not wanting to talk with his ex after she lied to him for years? Makes perfect sense, and if it happened to me I'd probably be right with him. The only harsh thing that I WILL say to bramble about this, is that it was interfering with his job duties of deputy. Because like it or not, at that point in time he has her boss.
If he's unable to treat her civilly, he should have either stepped down as deputy, or gotten another warrior to help him be more fair.
But this is a man who found out the love of his life was being dishonest to him for most of the relationship, and probably has Green Day or MCR playing in his brain the entire time.
I don't think they should have gotten back together. I really did like the way the idea of Bramble beginning to notice other she-cats was handled really well, and is a logical step to getting out of his slump.

~If I could tell her Tell her everything I see If I could tell her How she's everything to me But we're a million worlds apart And I don't know how I would even start If I could tell her ~ The relations between brothers and sisters pay little attention. So if after a death of the Hawkfrost, a similar dialogue took place between the Mothwing and the Brambleclaw? (I like the song and the idea so I'm planning to start doing something)

Pebblewhisper is back! So I read Dawn, and there was only one tidbit that i found interesting (honestly really no Hawkfrost through out the whole book as they travel to the lake?). The rest of the quotes are from Starlight, everything is in chronological order. I'm just going to paste the quotes to paint a picture, with a little bit of light commentary in between, this will be long so buckle up!
Hawk 2 moth ft. leaf “...Our father was a great warrior. Our mother is proud and strong. They shared only one flaw: that their only loyalty was–and still is, in Sasha’s case–to themselves above all other cats”. He paused and glanced around the clearing. “We’re not like that. We understand what it means to be loyal to our Clan. We have the courage to live by the warrior code. And because of that we’ll be the most powerful cats in RiverClan one day, and our Clanmates will have to respect us then
“Hawkfrost narrowed his eyes. ‘Speaking of deputies, when’s Firestar going to make you his?’ Bramleclaw scuffed his forepaws among the dead leaves. ‘There are more experienced warriors–‘ Hawkfrost flicked his tail dismissively. ‘Older warriors,’ he corrected, ‘but more experienced? I think not. How many of them could have made your journey to the sun-down-place, and then led us here? You’re strong and skillful and you uphold the warrior code. Why shouldn’t you be deputy?”
Scene where Mudclaw attacks Brambleclaw, Hawkfrost comes to Brambleclaw’s rescue…Mudclaw and Hawkfrost throw each other under the bus… “If I am to lead RiverClan one day, it will be by the warrior code, or not at all.’ ‘Liar!’ Mudclaw spat. Hawkfrost shook his head. ‘I did only what I thought was right,’ he meowed to Brambleclaw.”
Was Hawkfrost somehow struck by lightning? *Remember we don't directly see Mudclaw and/or Hawkfrost get struck by lightning…Will the Erin’s somehow make a crazy connection to when shadowpaw is struck by lightning? There is without a doubt a crazy coincidence here with the possibility of a lightning motif…It’s a stretch, but could be a cool way to give Hawkfrost “evil possessive powers” which would be cool, as we haven’t really seen evil supernatural powers like this before.
I found a few other interesting things, but these are by far the most important clues. In Starlight we see Bramble and Hawk's friendship start to form. It's a shame that they don't have a permanent allyship...but maybe that's why Hawk chooses to possess bramble specifically (other than the fact he is powerful/a leader): Bramble's leader like hawk's always wanted to be (jealousy), he feels betrayed, and wants to avenge everything he's lost? Pebblewhisper out for now! See you after Twilight!
———————————————————————
Hi again!
This is really interesting, I never noticed before how much Hawkfrost seemed to care about the code until now. Honestly I can’t think of one time he technically broke the code while he was alive, he did bad things but they were always within the allowances from the code (from what I remember anyway). Even at the end of Sunset he wasn’t killing Firestar directly, he just trapped him and was waiting for him to die, so I imagine he would have seen those actions as being within the code.
About the lightning thing, I would say it is possible, I mean the authors managed to successfully retcon Onestar having a son so I don’t see any reason why they couldn’t retcon a lightning strike, and it would honestly be a really cool connection.
I’m honestly really liking this theory and as long as the authors can think of a not too ridiculous way to bring Hawkfrost back from the dead again I would say this theory makes a lot of sense and is very possible. Even if it isn’t Hawkfrost himself maybe it could be someone who admired or loved him or something and they want to “finish what he started” kind of thing. Either way, given what you’ve shown it would be a missed opportunity not to incorporate Hawkfrost to at least some degree to this entire codebreakers thing.
Thanks Pebblewhisper! This is a really cool theory and I’m looking forward to hear more about it, see you after Twilight!

"I won't believe in heaven and hell. No saints, no sinners, no devil as well. No pearly gates, no thorny crown. You're always letting us humans down. The wars you bring, the babes you drown. Those lost at sea and never found, and it's the same the whole world 'round. The hurt I see helps to compound that Father, Son and Holy Ghost is just somebody's unholy hoax, and if you're up there you'd perceive that my heart's here upon my sleeve. If there's one thing I don't believe in it's you...." ~ Dear God by Lawless Ever since I first heard this song it's made me think of Mothwing. Her point of view of Starclan and the things that lead to her disbelief in them. ("No Devil as well" her disbelief in Tigerclaw's ghost still walking the earth. "The babes you drown" being her dead brother, Tadpole. "The Wars you bring" every battle ever and even Hawkfrost and bramleclaw's fight. etc.) Also Mothwing is the prettiest She-cat in the entire series and I can't believe i've never drawn her before! :O
