Cassian and Melshi escaped the horrid dungeon of Castle Ferrix together, then went on to live a life as outlaws, no longer fit for society. The night they escaped, they swore to each other to take revenge on their captors for the death of their friend, Kino, and to not rest until they and their own would never have to live as serfs anymore - and they sealed the oath with a kiss.

They take from the rich and give to the poor, along with their merry band of outcasts - Bodhi, who used to collect taxes for the Sheriff until he was caught being lenient to a poor mother of ten; Chirrut and Baze, knights who left their liege lord when they grew disgusted with their habit of hanging 12 people every month; Cinta, whose family was slaughtered by the king’s men; Skeen who always used to be a petty thief and only joined because he knows where his next meal comes from; Taramyn, the former royal guard turned the fiercest of outlaws; and Bix, who was tortured by the Sheriff for information about the thieves in the forest and got rescued in a daring plan.

Luthen is their secret leader, a seemingly humble monk from the monastery who frequently passes out handouts to poor and oppressed farmers and serfs. Cassian and Melshi live in Ferrix Forrest, but come to the little town of Ferrix disguised as poor laborers to get food and messages from Brother Luthen or sometimes from Vel and Kleya, nuns at the monastery. Vel sometimes breaks out to meet up with her secret love, Cinta.

Cassian’s father Clem was hanged for hunting in the forest to provide them with food, since then he has a bitter grudge against the reigning Lord or Lady, whoever it might be. He pulls off the most daring capers and gives the people stories of hope, the likes they haven’t had since the legendary outlaw Saw Gerrera ruled over Ferrix Forest.

Lady Mon, the bishop Tay and others are secretly plotting revolution against the usurper Palpatine on the throne, as the rightful heir is stranded in the Holy Land, but - as little Brother Nemik (who used to be a monk, but had to escape to live in the forest after it was discovered that he translated the bible into english) reminds them - for them the matter of who sits on the throne, lawfully or not, is the wrong question to ask. Whoever it will be will charge the working men and women with taxes that take their hard earned earnings from them, while they do all the work on the fields and in the shops.

One day, Cassian and Melshi meet with Brother Luthen, who gives them a mission - a young lady will arrive at the nunnery, to be married to Sheriff Dedra’s protegé Syril Karn, who is loyal to the usurper. It would be an opportunity to kidnap her, and press the Sheriff out of the collected taxes of the whole county, maybe even make her set three villages of people free from serfdom.

But Luthen doesn’t want Cassian to do it - “It’s not the right work for you, the Lady needs a gentler touch. Get Cinta and the knights Baze and Chirrut to do it. Vel will be traveling to the harbor and accompanying the Lady and her chaperone, Lady Leia, who is secretly in league with us, back to Ferrix. Vel will be happy to see Cinta, too.”

There is another reason Luthen doesn’t want Cassian to take Lady Kerrianne for ransom, though. The thief might not be able to do what needs to be done, in the case that the Sheriff will not agree to save Karn’s fiancée, as soon as he realizes who their victim really is. The monk tasks the both of them with raiding an outpost where the fearsome giant Kay wields the law with merciless precision instead, to keep them out of the way. When Cassian slips away for an hour to visit his old friend Brasso the Smith at the forge, Luthen tells Melshi the truth, though. He is to keep Cassian away from their band of outlaws and the kidnapped girl at any cost - he even tells Melshi where to find Saw, deep in the forest. Melshi has never thought that he would have to divide his loyalties like this, between the man who saved him from a doomed life in shackles, who he loves more than anything; and the cause of liberation he swore a sacred oath to.

gosh, writing tips? i really wish i did but i dont really have a lot of technique to or thought put into my writing, if that makes sense? i think a lot of my way of writing just comes from a shit ton of practice (i've been writing fanfics since 2016 after all) and maybe a little bit me writing how i enjoy to read?

so i don't know if i really have any good writing tips, but i do think it's important to write what you enjoy. you can push yourself a little, but don't force yourself to write something you're genuinely not into. aside from that, i think reading a lot does help you find more ways of expressing things in ways that you might've never thought about? and it helps you understand what you like about certain types of writing too, i think.
