hi! just wanted to let you know that wangxiansky on twitter reposted your mianmian gif. idk if you're okay with reposting

hi! this is so, so delayed, sorry! but i’ve been thinking a lot how about how i feel about reposts without crediting and how to answer this ask, basically. this isn’t the first time it happened, and i’ve actually talked a bit about it in the notes section of that particular post where that gif came from, and also in this post.

of course it sucks not to be asked or credited when people just rip off your work and repost it. gifs, like any other fanwork, takes time, effort, and skill to make. people won’t just copy paste authors’ work without acknowledging the source, and more and more people are being more conscientious when reposting fanart. but i think it escapes people that for a particular scene, you can have, like, a thousand variation of it from different gifmakers and not have it come out the same. for me, gifs is as much a creative outlet as it is an expression of love for my fandom.

i don’t want to overvalue what i do, though. this fandom is blessed to have so many good gifmakers and fanartists! i'm certainly not the best gifmaker out there, my gifs are by no means perfect. but i don’t feel like another cog in the machine; i feel genuinely happy to belong here among so many good creators. but sometimes, during instances like this, when someone just rips off your work, it does feel like that, like the fraction of the time of my life that i spent making it doesn’t matter at all because it’s just another generic auto-generated gif floating around the internet. i’ve seen my gifs being cover of a groupchat, seen them as other people’s profile pictures, seen my stuff posted in tweets while i’m browsing my own tl, seen them ripped off and reincorporated as part of another gifset, and honestly, it’s really discouraging as a creator. i literally know every single time when a gif is mine, i chose exactly which scene i wanted to gif, counted the frames, stared it at for a prolonged period of time and adjusted them to look exactly how they came out. creators put skills and thoughts and feelings into their work, the least that you could do is acknowledge them.

it does feel overdramatic to say, especially about a gif that almost everyone else can make, but ripping off stuff without credit removes the creators’ agency and their control over their work. bottomline is: please don’t do that. please ask permission or credit/link the gifmaker when you want to repost their work. 👏👏👏

In fandom though, everyone wants you agreeable, easy to consume, and kind at your own expense. I want to confront people about this. I’m angry, but mostly I’m just tired, so I won’t. i’m just hoping that by posting this, someone might read this and gets deterred from doing it again.

self-care really is just wholeheartedly not giving a fuck about drawing and loving your ocs and absolutely gushing over them like huh....no one really talks about how hard it is to consistently post about your own characters? (whether youre an original artist or a fanartist or in between?) well i mean they do but no one dives into it like... if you arent popular or at a decent popularity level it can be hard to get your ocs out there, whether you draw them all the time and only have a few people who follow and care about your characters, or if you get intimidated all the time posting about your ocs, or revert back to drawing fanart because you know itll get more attention than people liking your characters but heY

WE OUT HERE APPRECIATING THE THINGS THAT WE CREATED MKAY

theres just something so healing about finally saying to yourself ‘hey i love my characters, i designed these idiots; skill level be damned, and im gonna draw abt em, post about em and talk abt em as much as i want cause it makes me happy and its fun as hell!’ and shit! once you realize that mentality youre absolutely fucking right! youre a god! the shackles of overcaring and being discouraged are OVER

not to mention the raw power of artists that make merch of their own characters and even if no one buys it they still get it for themselves!!! thats how i wanna be!!! your characters on cute little charms and stickers??? wellcrafted cute little plushies?? im gonna slap that shit all over my notebooks and my laptop you better believe it! and if someone asks about them? even bettER FOR ME. (i personally have this thing where i get nervous talking about my own characters? like a dumbass? i need to be more confident in my ideas and overshare to hell! if youre an observant person youll know if you say too much but the person youre talking to will atleast see your love for your craft fhdks) confidence and art kinda go hand in hand and tbh...its a hassle

also canon popular stories are just peoples ocs that really kicked off and blew up anyway! maybe people will get hyped about your characters the more you post! people might even start to ask about them....aint that the dream..

all your favorite animes and mangas....sure the authors made them hoping for popularity but in the beginning they made those stories because they wanted to!!! when they started working on those first chapters you bet your ass they didnt know theyd be getting their own shows, millions of fans, being able to see merchandise of their characters, people d r a w i n g their characters and making their own sub aus, people being casted to V OICE ACT their characters, seeing people COSPLAY THEM?, people being exited to MEET the authors themselves!!!!!! ALL BECAUSE THEY DID WHAT THEY WANTED and thats fucking wild!!!!!!!!

draw aus for your ocs! draw them interacting with canon characters! draw them hanging out with yourself! draw your favorite oc otps if it makes you happy and whole cause by god i feel blessed in this oc chilis 2nite and ill give them the content they desperately deserve

K - How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom

the Batman/Scriddler/Rogues fandom has been overall very welcoming, broad, very lovely to interact with, hysterical, and great friends and cohorts have been made!! it’s super great to see so much skill and talent and people helping each other out and getting stuff out there. it’s been a gas. i super appreciate and adore a lot of people and the work that has been put in creatively and in on their own selves!!

i’m thrilled that people have enjoyed my incarnations. i don’t adhere to canon or rules and i realize that a lot of my versions of rogues (particularly Jonathans) aren’t everyone’s cuppa, but so long as someone likes ‘em! i suppose it’d be nice to get some more reblogs out there so others can see and maybe feel better about letting loose their versions into the world too. i’m very grateful that i have people who look forward to seeing my dudes, and that little ‘like’ notification always makes me smile :3

hey so i’ve been developing my own rogues which means i’m gonna have 3 full sets of rogues and lately for the versions with @pocketyoursnotrags i’ve been tinkering with a transman Harvey Dent who was previously engaged to Bruce Wayne (pre-transition) before Shit Went Lopsided what do you guys think??? he also boxes now since my rogues are typically very physical

there is an 80% chance i’m going to eventually get a jonathan crane pinup tattoo on my shin

Since you said properties, I think kind of like... fictional properties?? like stuff that I like that’s inspired me and like I’d have to say my major art inspirations are kinda as follows:

Disney -- which I’m sure isn’t a surprise aT ALL, because it does a pretty good job at that cartoony realism that I always strived for.

Naruto -- because I spent all of high school emulating the style and redrawing manga panels, so it’s definitely had an impact on my art.

A bunch of early 2000′s cartoons -- because they definitely impacted my art when I was younger. Namely stuff like Teen Titans, Powerpuff girls, Kim Possible, and Winx Club.

Kingdom Hearts -- was definitely a more recent inspiration, considering that it *definitely* has that cartoony realism on lock down, and I fucking ADORE IT. The character designs are very aesthetically pleasing to me, and they’re all so *pretty*......

Steven Universe -- probably the most recent one? They have very good shapes, and watching it helped me a lot with how I do legs and stuff in particular.

Phantom of the Opera -- which ISN’T really a drawing media or anything??? But like I was really into it for several months in high school, and it got me to try drawing way more realistically for a little while.

Homestuck -- b/c uhhhh that kind of influenced me a lot to experiment with character design and junk. (Also it has some cool shots in it from what I remember)

Prague Race -- because the aesthetic of that web comic is pretty pleasing, and I really enjoy the character designs

I mean, beyond that there were definitely fanartists who probably influenced me, but trying to list all those people out would probably be another list all on its own lmao.

As for what inspires me now... uh.... I mean, I don’t feel like I have any inspos outside of fandom right now. I just?? I guess I haven’t been as inspired as much in the past few years, but that’s probably because I haven’t been involved in a lot of stuff beyond anime as of late??

So I mean, the plus side to anime is that it gives me a chance to really experiment with character designs, b/c a lot of the faces are very abstract and the bodies kinda samey, but I also haven’t like... been reading comics as much as I used to and getting a good feel for poses and composition and perspective which is... b a d, but I guess I’m still trying to make sure my character design skills are up to par ha ha

(what no that’s totally not an excuse to avoid drawing backgrounds what are you talking about alksghlsdkghas;lk)

1. How were you first introduced to Fullmetal Alchemist?

Pictures of blonde red-cloak boy and giant armor warrior + the nina/alexander chimera jokes while surfing through the internet :V (I was in my ultra-Sonic-fanatic phase back then and was searching for fanart)

So when that scene came up the animes/manga, I was already de-sensitized to it through jokes long ago sadfzgfdhgjf

I finally got the basis to what it was about when my favorite Sonic fanartists started to make posts and analysis of it. I firmly remember the discourse of whether the ending of Conqueror of Shamballa was terrible or not, and me not understanding anything lol

Still wasn’t an entire FMA fan at that time

2. Tell us all about your child your favorite character and why you love them to pieces!

BOY OH BOY, where have you been? *Points to Icon* That guy, over there (Does Greedling as an entity count)

Okay for real, so my first actual fave was actually Greed himself. I was looking at the FMA wiki and reading up on all the characters, and he caught my attention. So I was thinking, “Wow, this guy is part of the bad guys? But he’s not? And he’s actually nice!? What an interesting character! But he looked kinda like a villain beating up Ed...”

Then he jump-started my motivation to continue watching the 03 anime and I cried over him and how he didn’t deserve to die ;v;.

Several days later, I remember there being some ~Asian Aesthetics~ In the brotherhood version after looking at a tumblr post (You know, that one where it compares Xing to IRL China).

Went to the wiki again, and read up on all the Xing characters.

>sees Ling’s description (Greed? What??? Greed is my fav, why does he look different??)

>Stop and stares at personality

“That guy is also gonna be my fav I just know it.” And truth to behold, he is! There’s something about Comic Relief characters that are also secretly badasses that just gets to me ngh

AnD THEN WHEN GREEDLING HAPPENED OH MAN I WASN’T PREPARED FOR IT

THEY LITERALLY..JUST... COMBINED BOTH OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS INTO ONE JEKYLL AND HYDE THING OH MY GOD??

AND I LOVED IT SO MUCH UNTIL THEY GOT SEPERATED.....//cries

3. What are some funny FMA moments that get you every time?

>Greed Vs. Wrath (Again, don’t really know if it could count as an actual fight scene, poor guy didn’t even get a chance to attack)

>Ling Vs. Wrath (It just shows the full extent of his badassery!)

>Ed Vs. Greedling (Pretty interesting to see Ling fight badly compared to before because of Greed being shitty on the offense lmao)

>Ling can feel 100% everything that Greed feels and vice-versa in the backseat ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) (So having his arm sliced off... he felt that)

When Greed gets tired, He gets tired

When Greed gets hungry, He gets hungry Etc. They feel everything with the same intensity.

>Greed picked up minor Xingese during his body-share, but it’s really shitty broken sentences. He tries speaking it to girls in order to impress them. Ling cringes every time and disapproves of it. So when ling comes back to visit amestris for Emperor duties, he’s known as that guy with the broken language by some of the public :)

“Greed no”

Greed, Greed, and Greedle!! THIS POOR GUY JUST BEEN THROUGH A LOT OKAY.

Oh look, we found him! LETS KILL ALL OF HIS FRIENDS! Also, lets supress his memories maybe he’ll accidentally kill of the last of his friends lmao

Plus he’s like....the most docile out of all of the homunculi, everyone else goes “PEH. Hoomans. look at these ants. Its pretty fun squishing them”

meanwhile Greed is the only one out of all of them that goes “Meh. I think they’re pretty okay. oH SHIT THIS ONE IS GONNA GET THEMSELVES KILLED!”

8. Do you have a favorite FMAau? If not, what’s an au you’d like to see or have come up with?

Greed survives with ling AU hands down
