See that ruin up there? Bleak Falls Barrow. When I was a boy, that place always used to give me nightmares. Draugr creeping down the mountain to climb through my window at night, that kind of thing. I admit, I still don't much like the look of it.

BLEAK FALLS BARROW
Tumblr media
RATING: 10/10
See now THIS is a good introductory dungeon, this is my jam.  Pretty sights, a word wall, a good attached quest, some puzzles.. It even introduces you to pressure plates and oil traps! What a time to be alive! Unfortunately it doesn’t immediately teach the player about tripwires and how to disarm them, but we got to leave some mysteries to the player.. and those are introduced in Embershard Mine, anyway, if the player does that on the way to Riverwood.
And! On top of that! Just.. its so easily accessible if you follow the road and take the path up the mountain. Smooth sailing. Not too hard, not too long, doesn’t even have any special gimmicks aside from one claw door (which is itself a neat little introduction to claw doors and how to solve them assuming you don’t use google)!
Modest loot, lots of interesting things, real nice. Real damn nice. It’s just a solid dungeon in every category. I mean it’s absolutely not the BEST in every category, but it’s a really good first impression. Does anyone stop to appreciate the humble BFB? Alas.. perhaps not. Such is the fate of the first and most modest dungeon of the main quest.

The Golden Claw 1/2 - Finding the Claw
Lucan Valerius in Riverwood is offering me a gold reward if I retrieve his antique Golden Claw, stolen by bandits camped in Bleak Falls Barrow... ... I've overheard a group of bandits talking about a golden claw that they've recently stolen. Apparently, one of the bandits has taken the claw further into Bleak Falls Barrow.

Bleak Falls Barrow's nearly unkillable bandit bug
I started a new character and was headed toward good ol' Bleak Falls Barrow, I got to the watch tower and found the first bandit, should be easy, right?
WRONG!
Tumblr media
This chick for some reason had a mission in life, it was like her skin was made of iron and I got killed. I never died there before, not even when I first got the game. I reloaded the game and I died again.
So, fuck it, lower the difficulty.
Tumblr media
But guess what?
Tumblr media
It took, and I shit you not, three full irl minutes to get her that low. I gave in and used the kill command.
Now, I am playing modded but most of my mods are for aesthetics, so I see no reason this weird bug happened.
Load order:

Edit: It kept happening with some other enemies so I decided to remove all the mods and just start a new playthrough. Not much was lost as you can imagine since it was just the start of a new save.

Confession: When I first played skyrim I spent a good hour just staring at the door in bleak falls barrow trying to figure out how to open it. I felt so stupid the minute I looked at the golden claw a little closer.

Before the Storm
Okay so first things first before I even get my character properly dressed in this episodes gear I found myself attacked by some hired thugs outside the farmhouse. Luckily it was easily dealt with by Uthgerd and my farm workers as I was not dressed for combat. It turned out that the reason they attacked me was because of all that stuff I stole from the warehouse last time
Tumblr media
Oops Still at least the chicken got some free entertainment
Tumblr media
so first up after I got myself properly dressed I went back to Riften to talk with Tonilia about swapping out a piece of gear
Tumblr media
before heading off to Riverwood to talk to Alvor about the events of Helgen that happened (checks watch) four in game months ago now. Sorry about the wait dude
Tumblr media
I then made sure to take as much gear as possible from him and his shop to sell back later. (Which is how I got some of the new stuff own below ) I then set off towards Whiterun to start the quest properly
Tumblr media
It was as I was riding that I decided to split the next quest Bleak falls Barrow into two as the current quest is rather short and Dragon Rising which happens after the Bleak falls quest is one that I always felt couldn't be put off. And so I decided that going through the dungeon and collecting the Dragonstone would be done this time and actually delivering it would be done the next time the main questline is chosen. Carrying on I quickly made it to Whiterun where I discoverd Dragonsreach
Tumblr media
and met Irileth and the dialogue proceeded as follows
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before talking to the Jarl
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After which the normal conversation between the Jarl, Irileth and Proventus happened. I just stayed nearby and spun the camera around waiting for it to end and I could go talk to Farengar and get the next quest objective.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next I set off to Bleak Falls where I found a Frost troll along the path
Tumblr media
Lovely Until finally reaching the dungeon itself.
Tumblr media
My companions and I made quick work of the bandits around the entrance and we found our self swiftly racing through the dungeon. Although I did stop to watch the bandit kill himself in the puzzle room
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Classic. The only things of note along the way to the word wall room was cutting down (well firebolting down) Arvel and then killing him before he could run away and get killed by a dragur. Why let the exp for killing him go to waste. And reading his journel
Tumblr media
The next interesting part would be the claw puzzle which was as easy as ever
Tumblr media
Before the final boss fight with the dragur overlord that was remarkably easy with three combatants (I didn't even use Undying ghost for this fight it went by that quickly). I then nabbed the Dragonstone and left the barrow thus ending this episode

A Journey Into The Bleak
Turdas, 21st of Last Seed, 4E 201
Through the flesh-piercing snow-storm, they neared the mountain peak. The faint outline of ancient Nordic-carved stone  grew larger against the black starry night, a beacon of ominous darkness.
The structure itself was massive in size, seemingly carved out of the mountain itself in ancient Nordic passion, unrivaled by time. Incredible pillars and awnings, once embracing the enormous temple roof, now supported nothing but harsh never-ending winters. Resting beneath the pillars, lied a large stone foundation with snow covered stairs leading down to an entryway, all of which must have been a truly magnificent sight before the era’s of snow and icy decay had befallen on what would later only be known as Bleak Falls Barrow.
With a familiar gesture of his hand, Aevi ushered Doronthiel to a pause, detecting hostile movement ahead. Doronthiel complied and slowly raised their bow. They both laid prone in the snow, shielded behind a frost-covered rock.
Aevi pointed towards three vague dark figures patrolling the perimeter of the ruin ahead, and through a series of quick yet subtle hand signs, they nodded in silent agreement. Doronthiel would provide ranged support while Aevi moved ahead in a flanking formation.
Aevi crawled onto the craigy outcropping of the mountainside and scaled his way to the edge of the temple’s chilling stone floor. As he kneeled, he peered out towards Doronthiel, looking for their stern, dark eyes, waiting for their signal.
Doronthiel paused, then in a split second, raised their bow and shot an arrow so quickly and skillfully, Hircine must surely have noticed. Their arrow hit the snowy icicled tip of the ancient archway with a fierce crackle, ice shattering and snow powdering below. In the cloudy confusion, Aevi charged in and sliced the first bandit’s throat in an instant, covering his mouth to muffle the scream. Doronthiel followed, silently taking out the second bandit with a swift pull of their bow string, the arrow thudded against the unsuspecting bandit’s back. Aevi then closed in on the third bandit who was just becoming aware of the brief chaos around him before the steel tip of Aevi’s dagger silenced any further suspicion.
As the dust of combat settled, Aevi noticed Doronthiel standing solemnly, overlooking the three bodies of the bandits.
Aevi patted Doronthiel's back and sighed, "They would have tried to kill us."
Doronthiel took a deep breath, "I know."
After a moment, Aevi turned towards the ancient temple entrance, “Here, come help me with these doors."
With their combined strength, the frosted fortified doors finally pulled open as a loud creaking of ancient stone and metal echoed around them, the ancient air whispering a choking welcome from within. Aevi and Doronthiel looked at each other, and with determination in their eyes, they took one last breath of fresh air before they slowly sneaked inside, entering Bleak Falls Temple.
