here’s an interesting theory about bleach
what if OMZ and white made up the name zangetsu (after hearing zabimarus name) because OMZ couldn’t call himself yhwach
and now imagining an AU where ichigos zanpakuto and fullbring are named yhwach and old man yama is furious
“BANKAI TENSA-YHWACH”
“bankai.. tensa WHAT”

Here's a Bleach ask for you, what do you make of the relationship between Ichigo and Grimmjow during the arrancar arc and the narrative value of their dynamic?
Tumblr media
Grimmjow's relationship with Ichigo is one of the best written character rivalries in the series, because much like Uluiorra he's a near perfectly crafted foil and jungian shadow of Ichigo. The only difference really between his foiling between Grimmjow, and his foiling between Ulquiorra is that the confrontation between Grimmjow helps Ichigo grow, while his relationship with Ulquiorra is entirely destructive and stunts his growth for a long time after the fact.
1. Hail to the king, baby.
Grimmjow isn't just Ichigo's enemy, he practically is Ichigo under different circumstances, the similarities betwen them run so deep. My greatest evidence for this of course is how much Grimmjow's motivations and actions resemble that of Hichigo / Zangetsu, the literal mirror to Ichigo's soul made up of his repressed desires.
Grimmjow's words, reflect Hichigo's words, which reflect Ichigo's words as well. Hichigo tries to assume control of Ichigo's body, because he believes Ichigo lacks both the desire and resolve to win because he is too afraid of internal desires like Zangetsu and has suppressed them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grimmjow's desire to become king, reflects Hichigo's speech about the horse and the king, that if he doesn't rule over his own emotions, that if he doesn't use his power to win then he won't be king anymore and will be ruled by someone else. As much as it seems to be deviating away from Ichigo's true goal of protecting his friends to care more about winning fights then the action of protection, Ichigo also can't help or protect anyone if he is too insecure or too unwilling to fight with everything he has.
Grimmjow also much like HIchigo, only exists in the first place because he is a strong enough Gillian that he retained his personality by consuming all of the other Gillian around him, and was able to maintain himself. He is similiar to Hichigo, and the hollow part of Ichigo's soul in general, suddenly born in emptiness given intelligence and the only way to maintain that intelligence is to fight. A smaller part of a greater whole, threatening to consume Ichigo from the inside out if he does not rule him. If Grimmjow does not fight and eat other hollows, he'll just stop existing. If Ichigo is too weak and dies, then HIchigo will stop existing as well, which is why he will hijack the body in crisis situations and soemtimes even believes he could do a better job fighting than Ichigo could.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grimmjow and Hichigo both desire to become king, to dominate others through their power, and it's not just a selfish desire for power that fuels this, they need to fight and win in order to survive. This is also not an entirely selfish desire on Grimmjow's part, because for instance Ichigo also wants to win. The only way he can protect his friends is to gain strength and win, otherwise he's useless. Hollows are apparently empty creatures without emotions and yet Grimmjow was the king over subordinates and apparently a good enough leader that they were all willing to sacrifice their lives for him.
Tumblr media
Which is the precise moment that Grimmjow becomes a darker reflection for Ichigo's character, because Ichigo may desire to win, he may desire to be king, but that selfish desire is also balanced by the selflessness that he mainly uses that power for the others around him. Contrast this to Grimmjow who having lost those subjects by having consumed everything around him, he has no real reason to be king.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Having no connection to the world around him, Grimmjow seeks to die by Ichigo's blade rather than just suffer the humiliation of the loss to him, because fighting is literally the only thing he has to give his life worth and meaning.
Each Hollow represents an aspect / means of death, and Grimmjow's death is by destruction. Despite his desire to be king and ruler, he has effectively lived his life (Unlife?) by destroying everything around him until there is nothing left, and there is no end to that path except self-destuction.
When Ichigo stops him despite the fact they are mortal enemies, despite the fact Soul Reapers live to fight Hollows (though, they don't kill them, quincies do but killing hollows and eradiacting their existence has always been bad, Soul Reapers have a duty to cleanse them so they can return to the cycle of souls), it's a healthy move on Ichigo's part because he's telling both Grimmjow and himself that there's more to life than just battle, and that living to fight another day is more important than dying out of shame for the loss.
2. Howling
Grimmjow functions as a jungian shadow to Ichigo as much as Zagnetsu does, he is just externalized rather than internalized. There's a rich dirge of symbolism to how Grimmjow represents the primal, repressed part of Ichigo's mind that he does not see.
Tumblr media
To explain what a Jungian Shadow is briefly.
Jung regarded the shadow as unconscious—id and biography—suppressed under the superego's ego-ideal.[12] The shadow is projected onto one's social environment as cognitive distortions. Contrary to a Freudian definition of shadow, the idea can include everything outside the light of consciousness and may be positive or negative. Because a subject can repress awareness or conceal self-threatening aspects of the self, consensus of the idea of the shadow that it is a negative function in the self, despite the extent of the repression failing to prohibit these aspects.[16] There are positive aspects that can remain hidden in one's shadow—especially in people with low self-esteem, anxieties, and false beliefs—with these aspects being brought to the conscious mind and exercised through analysis and therapy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_(psychology)
Ichigo is incredibly repressed, his struggle throughout the series is to try to make sense and find balance within the several different parts of his soul, his quincy self, his soul reaper self, his human self, his hollow self. Zangetsu similiarly not simply Ichigo's evil side, but rather a mix of the traits he has repressed both good and bad. For example, as much as Zangetsu sometimes threatens to hijack Ichigo's body, he also does so out of love because Ichigo cares more about protecting others whereas the one Zangetsu wants to protect most of all is Ichigo.
The shadow isn't just repressed desires though, it's also theorized by Jung to be constructed of our instincts.
Jung construed [...] the personal shadow, [as] a biological and biographical shadow unique to each person, consisting of whatever innate instincts and transpersonal potentials we have suppressed in the course of adapting to society, along with archaic and traumatic memories [of the unconscious]. [...] The personal shadow is rooted in the shadow of our social group, which has moulded our ego-ideal and world view[.]  Humphrey, Caroline (2015). "Shadows Along the Spiritual Pathway".
Instinct, is not only what Zangetsu says that Ichigo is lacking and why he can't master his hollow self or be the king.
Tumblr media
Grimmjow is also, literally an animal. He's a big kitty. Hollows rip off their masks to take more human forms, and then when they release their swords return to the shape of the animals they began as. Grimmjow's motivations are almost pure animal instinct, fight, kill, eat, survive.
There is so much jungian symbolism in bleach it isn't even funny, Tarot is made up of Jungian ideas, and the tarot card that has the most in common with a jungian shadow is the moon.
Tumblr media
One of the biggest symbols of the moon card is the dual image of the dog and the wolf, howling up at the moon. The dog is the domesticated animal, the wolf the undomesticated primal instinct. The dog the disciplined part of our conscious mind we are in controll of, the wolf the unconscious mind made up of what we cannot see and cannot control.
The Moon represents your fears and illusions and often comes out when you are projecting fear into your present and your future, based on your past experiences. You may have a painful memory that caused emotional distress, and rather than dealing with the emotions you pushed them down deep into your subconscious. Now, these emotions are making a reappearance, and you may find yourself under their influence on a conscious or subconscious level.
And, what does Zangetsu translate to?
Zangetsu (斬月, Slaying Moon) is the manifested spirit of Ichigo Kurosaki's Zanpakutō as well as his inner Hollow. Getsuga Tenshō (月牙天衝, Moon Fang Heaven-Piercer; Viz "Moon-Fang Piercer of the Heavens") is a Zanpakutō technique of Ichigo Kurosaki's Zangetsu and Isshin Kurosaki's Engetsu.
Ichigo's zanpakuto is literally named after the fact that he uses his literal repressed shadow in order to fight against his opponent, and Zangetsu takes the form more often than not, of Ichigo's reflection. Ichigo's internal world is literally an empty city over an ocean where half the city is above the ocean and half is bellow it. It's not subtle, ya'll.
Grimmjow represents how those internal fears and anxieties are a part of Ichigo. They are one in the same the domesticated dog, and the wolf. Ichigo is the king as a man, Grimmjow is the king of beasts. As I said they even have the same desire, Ichigo's desire to win is for the sake of bringing his comrades home, whereas Grimmjow's desire to win is inspired by the fact his comrades believed in him so much they were literally willing to lay down their lives and let him eat them.
Tumblr media
Grimmjow reflects all those aspects positive and negative, he is also just in general, an ID character.
The id is the animal part of the personality, an unconscious drive to have lots of sex, survive, and thrive. It urges you to push in and eat your weight in cake. The ego is where the conscious mind lives. It's lumbered with the tricky job of satisfying the id's wild desires in a realistic and socially acceptable way.
Hunger is the word for Grimmjow, his hollow hole is literally in his stomach, his tragic backstory is he had to kill and eat his own allies, he's modeled after a panther which is a predator at the top of the food chain. However, these are also all things Ichigo needs to survive. Hichigo says as much, he needs an insatiable hunger, a ravenous bloodlust... and the id may seem selfish but if we don't eat we can't live. Just like how Ichigo's way of defeating Zangetsu is to admit to those desires that both Zangetsu and Grimmjow represents. He is once again, stabbed straight through the stomach, the same place where Grimmjow's hole is.
Tumblr media
The only thing that gives him the strength is his desire to have his sword back and not have it get taken away from him, Zaraki of all people appears in his mind and tells him that he has a very selfish desire to keep on getting into fights and getting stronger (much like Grimmjow) however it's not entirely negative because once again Ichigo needs this killer instinct withint himself in order to win, because winning is living.
Tumblr media
Ichigo's greatest moment of character grwoth in the fight comes when he uses his strength not only to protect Orihime, but to proect himself, the same way Hichigo does not want him to die, Orihime does not want to see him hurt, and that moment strikes Ichigo's growth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which is once again just how positive Ichigo and Grimmjow's relationship is, that it's only by facing Grimmjow Ichigo is pushed to learn these things about himself, only by accepting someone like Grimmjow can he accept the more negative aspects of his own self and grow past them rather than succumbing to him.

Ise Clan
Tumblr media
I thought Shinken Hakkyōken was a cool reveal and I wished we got more backstory to it and I'm hoping we might get some in the anime and/or hell arc.
Tumblr media
I always thought it was a failsafe in case the Soul King broke free. When the seals on him were removed his powers did attack the Sereitei and the Shinigami.
Tumblr media
My guess is that it was specifically designed by Oetsu to combat the Soul King. Oetsu's bodyguards are examples of zanpakuto with built in powers.
Tumblr media
It was revealed that the Ise Clan suffers from a curse that kills all men that marry into the family and also that they only birth daughters.
Tumblr media
Nanao's mother speculated that it was Shinken Hakkyōken's doing.
Tumblr media
It made me think about the incorrect relationships between Shinigami and zanpakuto that could develop which were mentioned by Oetsu.
Tumblr media
I also thought of Oetsu having a harem of female zanpakuto spirits to serve him. I think maybe Shinken Hakkyōken has a similar mindset as his creator and sees the Ise Clan as his wives and him as their true husband.
Tumblr media
Oetsu regulates male zanpakuto to working behind the scenes. But I think Shinken Hakkyōken is more extreme so kills off their husbands and ensures they only have daughters.

Yumichika’s Underrated (and unique) Character: Beast in Beauty’s clothing.
First appearance:
Tumblr media
We get to know Yumichika at the chapter 96 of the manga. From that moment, he is set as a simple minor character.
“Minor character. A minor character is usually a character who's not the protagonist or one of the main supporting characters or secondary characters. They usually have a relatively small role and often only appear for a few scenes. But even if they aren't on stage for very long, minor characters can have a big impact on the story.“
Besides the filler episodes of the anime, we can only get to see him if he’s either following Ikkaku or Kenpachi, as the typical “puppy character”. He is there to fight the one that Ikkaku won’t because the opponents are weaker, to watch him fight or take care of something else as Ikkaku does all the hard work.
Tumblr media
We do get a lot more of Minor Characters on bleach and mostly all of them have, at least, some sort of backstory. In comparison, we don’t really have much information about him as we have from other minor characters and at first sight he’s not crucial for the plot.
So, what makes Yumichika so special and different from everyone else? I’ve been wondering for some time now, why is Yumichika in the 11th division if he’s so different from the rest of his comrades? We know that there, people only like to fight. But we got to see multiple times that the 5th seat is the only one who actually does the work, he even cares about his appearance almost more than fighting.
Said that, why is Yumichika, a feminine male character (Who are most of the time viewed and written as a joke) on the strongest squad of the Gotei 13?
First, we’re going to get a look at his first fight.
First battle:
Tumblr media
Yumichika’s first fight happened when he was still viewed as an antagonist and his worst traits had the focus on the audience: Some random dude obsessed with beauty who says some cruel and sadistic stuff to one of Ichigo’s allies. Besides, as I said before, male characters with femenine traits are viewed not only as a joke but as disgusting (Let's remember that Bleach’s first episode was in 2001 and Japan isn’t the most friendly country with non-manly-men who actually take showers).
This is, mostly, a comedy relief fight while we see the main one between Ichigo and Ikkaku; in contrast, Yumichika vs Ganju isn’t really a proper fight, Ayasegawa just follows Ganju around and falls on his silly tricks over and over again until he’s defeated by a firework.
But, as a Yumichika starved fan, I could rescue some content from this. That is, we got to know Yumichika’s only weak spot in the entire series: Ikkaku.
Tumblr media
That might be some irrelevant thing, based on Yumichika’s existence is only Ikkaku because he’s his minor character, a mere shadow to not leave Ikkaku alone on his important scenes, right? Wrong, but that comes later.
Let’s focus on this first. The fight was almost comical, Ganju and Yumichika running in circles, getting lost in the process, falling on a hole full of garbage bags; but at the mere mention that Ikkaku lost, Yumichika seems to turn on a completely different character. He loses his composure, that could be taken as just a normal thing for newer viewers, but after finishing the manga for the 10th time I can’t let this fact go unperceived.
Tumblr media
Yumichika starts fighting for real, looking almost feral and with ugly expressions that he doesn’t normally make since he’s obsessed with his looks. There, you can understand why he is a part of the 11th division (But there’s more).
That is, also, an important fact regarding his and Ikkaku’s past. Where they would normally walk around looking for the strongest ones to fight.
What we learned here is; Yumichika knows how to fight dirty, and he doesn’t lose a single second in seriously attacking his opponent when he thinks that Ikkaku is in danger. That kinda resembles Kenpachi, who says that he doesn’t fight with all his strength from the beginning because otherwise he wouldn’t get to enjoy the fight and get fun, because it would end too early, too boring.
Tumblr media
Second battle:
Tumblr media
We already know that Yumichika is, in fact, part of the 11th squad. But we still have more doubts left: Why is he so different from everyone else there?
If you’re a fan of Bleach, you probably know by now that every dumb detail on this anime has sense, you get an explanation for every thing that happens. So what is Yumichika’s reason to be an unusual character with femenine traits, obsessed with beauty and fashion, who is also a part of the 11th division but also enjoys killing people? (Sounding not correlative at all).
And, most important, why is he so relevant even though his entire life is just Ikkaku?
On his fight with Hisagi, Yumichika talks about that a little. This takes place in chapter 139 and 147 of the manga. Here, Hisagi mentions that a 5th place can’t even win against a Co-lieutenant.
Tumblr media
We do know that Ikkaku is the second strongest men on the 11th division, and the only reason why he isn’t lieutenant is because Yachiru has that place (If you finished the manga, you probably know why); and Yumichika didn’t say that he couldn’t achieve the 3rd place, he just mentions that Ikkaku took it, making it seem as it’s not really about power balance. Him and Ikkaku have, or almost have, the same amount of strength.
That makes Yumichika, also, an almost Lieutenant if we speak about power.
And he is not even training his real powers (Remember this for later); later on, Yumichika shows his true form to Hisagi, but we don’t get to see it until the White Invasion.
Tumblr media
I said before that the reason for him being in a lower position than Ikkaku is not power imbalance. He is fighting with an arm besides his back, he always has been since him and Madarame have been friends from the beginning, therefore he probably hasn’t even trained his true powers because he’s afraid of Ikkaku sensing his reiatsu.
That almost makes pieces fall together in place: He is different from everyone on the 11th division because he’s the only one with a Kidou Zanpakuto, but he feels as he belongs there, therefore he hides his true self so he can be at Ikkaku’s and Kenpachi’s side, even if that means never achieving Bankai.
Yumichika not only loves his own pride, not only cares about what other think despite his narcissistic personality, but he also must love fight if that means he’s always wining with a half-released Zanpakuto, making every battle last longer than it should because he’s having fun.
Tumblr media
One-sided pinning:
Tumblr media
This far, we already know more about Yumichika. At this point is even a liked character for most of the viewer audience and even a comedy relief when he’s at Rangiku’s side; we also see him as a part of the 11th division and it’s been a while since we have seen him actually struggling in the first two fights.
On the chapter 202 of the manga, during the arrancar invasion. Bleach takes a more defeated turn where everyone learns that their power isn’t enough to fight Aizen and, therefore, to save the world and his loved ones in the process.
During this fight, Yumichika is once again spectating as one of the viewers while he takes care of Keigo. On his personal plot, I see this fight as one approaching the point of no return, but we’re not quite there yet.
As we know already, Ikkaku is Yumichika’s weak spot, that’s why he doesn’t want him knowing the true identity of his powers. In this battle, we know a little bit more about their dynamic, as Yumichika tells Keigo that they have some sort of agreement where they have prohibited to help each other in a fight, saying that if he dies during a battle, he’ll be proud of him.
Tumblr media
This thing seemed a little odd for me; even as a part of the 11th division, why would you let someone so strong die? Also, remembering the first battle of Yumichika vs Ganju, why would Yumichika react so strongly to Ikkaku’s potential death if he’s so chill about letting his best friend die?
But nothing happens during this, we get to see Ikkaku getting his ass kicked and Yumichika talking on the phone in an oddly relaxed tone, saying to make the preparations for Madarame’s funeral, as if he has accepted his death already and he’s fine with it (Except, he’s not).
Tumblr media
That doesn’t make sense, not even for Yumichika’s wolf-in-sheeps-clothes character. As the battle goes on, Ikkaku summons his Bankai and that’s where everything makes sense (For now).
Yumichika is not okay with Ikkaku’s death besides having accepted that agreement, who would be, if his plot is always revolving around him? But they both were hiding their true powers due to similar reasons: Yumichika didn't want to be rejected and Ikkaku didn’t want to leave the squad because of the empty captain spots; and even though Yumichika is an hypocrite, or at least his character has a lot of contrasts that shouldn’t make sense together but somehow they do, he accepts if Ikkaku wants to die for the same reason as him: his pride.
Tumblr media
Point of no return: “Beauty is solitary”
Tumblr media
During the White Invasion, Yumichika has to defend one of the fourth pillars protecting Karakura city along Ikkaku, Hisagi and Kira. I see his battle against Charlotte (Episode 319 of the manga) as a point of no return on Yumichika’s character.
First, they’re presented as mirror characters.
“Mirror characters are used for a similar purpose. They tend to share several qualities and are used to complement and highlight each other's traits. Common mirror characters embark on parallel plots, sometimes to achieve a single goal, which tests them and highlights their traits in different ways”
But that is highly debatable, even though they do share a common goal and several qualities such as obsessive beauty, we can hardly see them alike during the fight. Charlotte’s beauty is more prominent, exaggerated and doesn’t lose a single second in trying to show off. At the same time, Yumichika shows off his beauty because he can’t show his powers and strength without limiting himself due to his pride; he doesn’t even use Fuki-Kujaku until seconds after the end of the battle.
Tumblr media
Yes they are, at some point, mirror characters. But at the same time, they’re foils.
“Foil Definition. In literature, a foil is a character that shows qualities that are in contrast with the qualities of another character. The objective is to highlight the traits of the other character.”
The first Chapter of the fight is titled “Beauty is so solitary” and that will make sense in just a minute. On the battle, Yumichika is losing without looking much affected by it, he is angry, but he doesn’t show the kind of feral-angry that he should even knowing that his death will mean that one of the pillars broke.
Almost at the end of the fight, Charlotte shows what it seems to be his most powerful technique, leaving him and Yumichika both alone in some kind of alter-dimension; a black sphere made of briars that doesn’t let other people even sense the spiritual pressure of the ones inside it.
Tumblr media
At first, “Beauty is so solitary” resembled Charlotte; meaning his beauty was so unique that only he could truly understand and appreciate it. But now, it takes a completely different turn. “Beauty is so solitary” meaning Yumichika being trapped in a place where nobody can see him, where he can show his true beauty only when he’s alone.
That is why his beauty is solitary, and why he is so different from the rest of the 11th squad, he is meant to be different because otherwise it wouldn’t be solitary, he’d completely fit in.
Yumichika reacted automatically, releasing the true power of his Zanpakuto. But unlike with Hisagi’s battle, we can actually see how his power are this time.
We also get a explanation on why he can have two Shikais; that being him calling his Zanpakuto “Ruri-iro Kujaku” as a true name.
瑠璃色孔雀 = Azure peacock, being azure his zanpakuto’s hair (and more prominent) color on his humanized form.
Tumblr media
He says his sword hates the color light-purple (More specifically wisteria) so when Yumichika calls “Fuji-Kujaku” only does half of its Shikai, the multiple blades showing what it should be vines.
Tumblr media
Fuji-Kujaku = Wisteria peacock. And, funny fact, wisteria is the color of Yumichika’s eyes.
Tumblr media
Here Yumichika explains how the victim dies once the flowers bloom. His true Shikai is so strong that Charlotte later asks if that was his Bankai; besides that, Yumichika can actually eat the flowers and consume his enemy’s powers by doing that. Each one of the flowers representing a fraction of their powers.
So, if Yumichika would actually train and use his Shikai on every battle, he’d soon become a Reiatsu monster in just a few battles. Yumichika is not only risking his own life by keeping his powers by himself, he sacrifices his Bankai (Why would he want to achieve a Kidou one anyway), he sacrifices his strength (Even if he’s part of the 11th division where being strong is kinda the main goal).
Tumblr media
He also says he would have sacrificed his own life if Charlotte didn’t show him that technique. And all that is just for his squad, mainly Kenpachi and, most important, Ikkaku.
Tumblr media
Yumichika’s weakness:
I said multiple times that Yumichika’s only weakness is Ikkaku, and I will say it again. The previous scene about him planning his funeral takes a different turn now.
It did seem that Yumichika was accepting that Ikkaku and him had the same destiny: dying because of denying the use of their true powers. But the last few times Ikkaku was in true danger, Yumichika’s reaction was far from accepting.
Even if he was accepting his own death and he would be gone if it wasn't for Charlotte’s technique, when we see that Ikkaku’s pillar got destroyed…
Tumblr media
In the anime he goes as far as trying to attack Hisagi, telling Yumichika that he’ll lose too if Ikkaku loses in the first place. Once again, Yumichika lost it completely just for the fact that Ikkaku lost (He is not dead and he recovers consciousness two seconds after the first frame).
Tumblr media
Sadly, they sedate Yumichika so we don’t get any answer as to why this happened. We do know that is completely different from the time where Ikkaku showed his Bankai, but what happened in the middle?
I, unfortunately, can’t answer that. We did see them together many times when the invasion was going, they lived together with Keigo some time, but there was nothing plot-related that could send Yumichika on a rage tantrum; maybe that time he just knew that Ikkaku was going to use his Bankai and that’s why it’s the only time on the entire series where he doesn’t lost his composure at Ikkaku’s safety.
And, in the Quincy Blood War, it happened again.
When Bambinetta was about to explode Ikkaku’s head, she didn’t even get to touch him for more than a fraction of second before Yumichika this time stepped on the fight and broke their agreement of “We mustn't help each other”.
Tumblr media
Only, this time, Ikkaku seemed to help Yumichika too, pushing him away with his sword when Yumichika pretended to block an attack with Kidou. So maybe after some years they both agreed that their promise to not help each-other wasn’t worth keeping anymore, but that’s just speculation.
Tumblr media
Once again, Yumichika lost his brains when Toshirou attacked Ikkaku. Which is surprising, because on the Quincy arc we do get to see that Yumichika got smarter, being now on the 3rd seat and being able to read his enemies just a second in the fight. But when things are about Ikkaku, he just stops thinking.
Tumblr media
Sadly, Toshiro knocked him out before he could release his true Shikai so we didn’t get to see him in action again after Charlotte’s fight.
Is subtle development enough?:
I am still upset that we didn’t get to see Yumichika releasing his true powers in front of everyone and his plot stayed the same. But we do got some Yumi character development on the Quincy Blood War.
Now, Yumichika acts more assertive, smarter and faster than before which is… Not surprising, but at the same time, we are in a shonen where characters usually don’t think before they act (Goodbye to all the Bankais of those who didn’t use their brain in this war). The Gotei 13 is showed as “not strong enough” during this arc, but somehow Yumichika is once again different from everyone else, since he seems to have gotten better, because his “beauty is solitary”.
Tumblr media
For example: on their fight with Giselle, he discovers her stupidly fast.
Tumblr media
The same happened with Bambinetta.
Tumblr media
And he actually uses Kidou now, that’s why it was so disappointing to see that  they didn’t do much plot-development for him. Maybe they’re saving Yumichika’s power for the Hell Arc, I hope, because otherwise they would be throwing an amazing and underrated character to the trash.
Tumblr media
Anyway, that’s everything I have on the subject. Feel free to comment if I forgot about any details + theories you have :)

i know very well aizen doesn't want to go back to muken for all those years, he is too prideful to admit he ran out of a plan on how he can escape so he played everyone like he wanted to complete his sentence. I'm bailing him out anyways.

Tumblr media
So, I'm dropping in this fan translated panel because it is the first character moment in the TbTP arc. And, I find Aizen's first interaction with Hirako super fascinating.  Also, the official English translation reads a bit differently.  I have the VIZ tankoban at my elbow, so I'll do a bit of compare and contrast. (Actually, I grabbed a screenshot off my VIZ subscription, so here's the other one, as well:)
Tumblr media
Hirako, on the previous page says in the fan translation: "What the? Those are your normal clothes?" in the official translation, he says, "Hey, you aren't dressed up."
Catching up to the fan translation here, he says something far more interesting in the official translation: "It's a festival. I told you to look dazzling."
I'm kind of grooving on Hirako wanting Aizen to look dazzling because the implication is that he thinks he could.
In the official one, their teasing reads a bit differently. Instead of saying "You can't try and make me wear some silly costume when I'll be the only one," Aizen says, "I won't let you make me look a fool."
Their argument about whether a formal ceremony is the same as a festival goes much the same, but instead of "I beg to differ," Aizen just says "No."
I love both versions, but my ideal one would combine some of the more juicer bits, like the "dazzling" comment and Aizen's more Aizen-like responses, like the much more terse, "You can't make me into a fool," and my beloved, simple, "No."
Like, it takes some balls to just say "No" to your captain, even if you add the 'sir.'
Shinji: "It's a festival. You dress for festivals, right?"
Aizen: "A festival isn't a ceremony."
Shinji: "C'mon, it's basically the same."
Aizen: "No."
And, just sitting on that no, like, fight me. But also with no heat, so there's no fight to have. Just, no. You're wrong, Captain, and I'm just saying it.
It's stuff like this that really gets me thinking about how much of "nice" Aizen is really just people not wanting to read him for who he is. He just said, "no," and fucking left it there, but all of fandom is like, "He's SO different when he's evil!" and I'm like, "But, is he?" Like he smiles more, but he literally is just saying, "I won't let you make me your fool," and "No" without any pretense of being "nice.'

I can imagine these two bump heads a lot. Kenpachi’s lax nature and Soi Fon’s rule-orientedness. Makes me wonder what kind of drama goes on behind closed doors.

More Reiatsu Talk
Not sure if this counts as a headcanon, but its something that sort of stuck in my mind since the first time I read Bleach.
There’s always a lot to talk about reiatsu but I feel like throughout the series it’s always in relation to how powerful a person is, rather than it being their essence.
So, at least in my mind, reiatsu has its own properties which only reveals itself depending on who a person is with. I think throughout Bleach, the only kind we see is the ‘angry’ or ‘battle’ kind of reiatsu because they’re necessary to drive the plot forward.
But what about reiatsu in general? Like it can’t be ‘off’ or ‘battle’ all the time. So I personally think there’s levels to it. For example, the signature of the reiatsu changes when that person is in love, and people will sense the change, but if you are a stranger to that person, it’s not going to make sense whereas the person they’re in love with can interpret it no problem.
Similar to when they’re scared or tired. The reiatsu signature changes, and only people who have worked together on missions (say like captains and lieutenants) can sense this between each other.
In other words, reiatsu expression is a very personal thing for them. The characters in Bleach don’t really have parental relationships or romantic partners, except for Ichigo who has his dad and sisters, and we can see his sisters are very in tune with his feelings and his dad is also kind of able to guess his mind.
So that’s it. Just me trying to make sense of things. But to conclude: reiatsu is personal to each shinigami depending on who they choose to be vulnerable with.

Senjumaru and the Fates from Greek Mythology
source : www . reddit . com/r/bleach/comments/16x25ao/senjumaru_and_the_fates_from_greek_mythology/
In Greek Mythology the Fates or Moirai are the goodess of destiny, they are the enforcers that ensure that everyone from humans to gods live according to their destiny as predetermined by the laws of the universe. In certain way they are the "Weavers of Destiny"
The morai are three:
Clotho, the spinner: Spuns the thread of life from her distaff onto her spindle. Basically decides if you are born and can resurrect people
Lachesis, The allotter or drawer of lots: measured the thread of life allotted to each person with her measuring rod. She decides how long you will live and according to some, your destiny while you are alive.
Atropos, The inevitable: Basically death, she chooses how people dies by cutting the thread of life when time comes with her scisors.
THOUGHTS ON SENJUMARU BANKAI
Senjumaru Bankai which can be translated as Crossroads of the Carcass works similar to them by bringing their destiny into the present, examples:
manga spoilers:
Lille: Got defeated by shooting his reflection/Nanao sword who reflects the divine
Gerard: gets Frozen like in the manga against Toshiro (Maybe this time they will crush the core)
Pernida: It´s pulled by "those hands"/his own power as mayuri kills him by using his adaptation against him.
Askin: "Gets Crushed and Sealed", this is a theory but maybe in the anime he stays alive instead of getting killed by a sneak attack and suffers a fate worse than death, Kisuke can technically seal him like he did with Aizen.
Jugram: Get´s burn representing his fight with bazz b, and while he initially cuts the flames, he gets burnt anyway because fate/Yhwach treason is inevitable.
Uryu: Gets Hauswalen, however we know he survives with the antithesis, so he might defeat Senjumaru by challenging his fate in the same way he defies Yhwach by piercing his heart with the arrow allowing Ichigo to cut through FATE like he wanted in the Sand and the Rotator.
The "Carcass" thing is important because in the past carcass where used for "Divination" by Oracles and priest who wanted to see the future. The poetic aspect only adds because Oracles had to interpretate their visions. So Senjumaru might not have a future vision as acurate as Yhwach who sees all posibilities.
One thing I like a lot about his bankai is that: The heavenly spinner, Senjumaru is the opposite of Yhwach, instead of changing fate, she enforces it becoming atropos or death which fits her paper as a shinigami or goddess of death.
It is not a coincidence that the final act of her bankai is cutting the threat of life and turning his enemies into a tapestry. She is ATROPOS/INEVITABLE.
Personally I think she will be defeated by either Uryu for the reasons said above or by YHWACH who by having similar powers whould be able to make a clash of wills and by virtue of his superior reiatsu/fate manipulation prevail.
However i would like to see in the next cour a weakness for this bankai as right now is pretty broken, maybe something phylosophical or about COURAGE hinting how Yhwach would be defeated, but I think it will be used to further hype Yhwach or Uyru.
Summary: Senjumaru is a goddess. Thank You for reading.
As soon as I saw Gerard getting frozen and the fact that Senjumaru is a weaver, I began to guess that she is based on the Fates atleast.

For Pernida, I read someone in the sub telling that the Kurotsuchi means Black soil/earth. That is such a direct reference on what is going to happen to him.
If her bankai is manipulating fate, "bowels of black sand (aka black soil)" should be referring to Kurotsuchi, as in Mayuri Kurotsuchi and Nemu Kurotsuchi, because Kurotsuchi translates to black soil or something along the lines of that from what i understand. And true that, Pernida loses due to consuming Nemu.
For askin: he is crushed by three spiked piece of a coffin. Each piece represents the three that defeated him. Urahara. Yoruichi and grimjow. The coffin motif represents his gift ball deluxe trying to take out everyone with him.
Also Lilie is surrounded by eight mirror walls, so if the number is prominent then it must mean something.

Great catch. The name of Nanao’s sword translates to ‘Sword of Eight Mirrors’.
It is kinda impossible to give a completely accurate translation since this is made up words essentially, but my best bet, with some artistic license to make it work better in English, would be: "Old Witch's Gateway Crossing of Entwined Needles and Divine Corpse Fabric".
EVEN BETTER, It fits the Atropos theme so much.
I interpreted her power as reality warping, like her bankai set their eventual defeats in motion and made that their destiny. Literally altering their course of fate. In a way she defeats the shutzstaffel and fulfilled her duty
Her name Shutara is from Buddhist word “Sutta”
Which can mean the thread (the Buddhas teaching and truth )that string every thing together.
So it’s a very obvious reference and hint on what her ability is,just like Nanao’s family name is Ise.
I was a bit disappointed Kubo didn’t do more with her and now I’m very satisfied to see he do her justice.

User avatar level 1 sanguinare12 · 22 hr. ago There are also parallels with Arachne the weaver, also from Greek myth, who after besting Athena in a weaving contest was either killed then turned into a spider or transformed directly, to continue her weaving in that form thereafter. Multiple arms and the weaving ability translates well to Senjumaru, whether relating to her bankai or not. No holding back on the inspirations at this point!

A rock fact?
Aizen Sosuke is one of the most influential villains in Bleach, however, he is also the most mysterious character in the manga. There is very little information about him and even within the manga, anime, databook or external events with the franchise, it seems that they keep the information about him limited...or it was not necessary to do that... There is something interesting that happens in chapter 682 of the manga, to be more exact, on page 12.
Tumblr media
In the conversation with Ywach, the king of the Quincy points out that the shinigami was projecting his own personal problems with him and Aizen did not deny it; It seems like a casual conversation before the battle, but if we remember correctly, Aizen usually establishes a conversation with his enemies and even establishes certain monologues according to the person with whom he is fighting. This is important because or let's not forget that his zanpakuto is called Kyoka Suigetsu "The mirror that reflects the moon", as we saw through the history of bleach, the zanpakuto or the swords of the shinigami are molded and even reflect things with respect to their owners and they are the ones who best know their hearts. Why is this important? Well, it's just that a mirror usually reflects or projects what's around it, right? Well, there is also the human act of projecting oneself onto someone more or better known as "Projection" and according to a psychology dictionary "Projection, the mental process by which people attribute to others what is in their own minds". So it's very possible, that some monologues or provocations of Aizen to other people, weren't only that, and some part of his speeches was talking about himself … well, I can only say that I would have to read the Bleach manga again since it is possible that what we wanted to know about Aizen, was in our faces all this time…

something that could’ve been cool in the zanpakuto rebellion arc is
what if muramasa pulled out white instead of OMZ?
but white just fought back cause he’s badass like that
if it was canon (happening post fullbring ) that could’ve been something cool to go along with ichigo remembering white saying “I AM ZANGETSU”
it could’ve been something cool to hint at “the blade is me” and old man zangetsu not being ichigos true zanpakuto
also when zangetsu uses bankai for him to change form and transform into the soul world tensa zangetsu we see at the end of the arrancar saga

haschwalth and bazz?
Tumblr media
Bazz-B and Haschwalth's relationship is my favorite part about the thousand year blood war arc as a whole, besdies the obvious parallels between Ishida and Ichigo and these two, it's also basically the only time in the arc one of the quincies is framed in a sympathetic light.
1. Just Call me Bazz
What kicks off the fight is of cousre, the personal betrayal of Ywach, a leader who ultimately considers every single Quincy under his command to be disposable. To feel abandoned they must of course, have individuality in the first place. For example, there are plenty of quincies perfectly willing to just die in Ywach's name which means everything including their lives belong to him. Honestly, moreso than the parallels between Ishida and Ichigo and these two, there's also a battle here, between individuality and individual free will, and a blind obedience to outside forces, like leaders, or even destiny.
Tumblr media
Haschalwath's ability is literally to see the future, and the idea of a fixed destiny of course, means that there is no free will. If the future is already set then your choices is out of your hands because everything you are going to do is already predetermined. Not only does Haschwalth represent a lack of free will, but he is also quite literally not really his own person anymore, he is half of Yhwach, which is why he sides with him against his own personal feelings because they are essentially the same person. (Though, if they are the same person, then Haschwalth cleary has no agency inside that, Ywhach's will supercedes Haschwalth's, Yhwach makes all the decisions Haschwalth acts like he doesn't have a choice).
Tumblr media
If anything Bazz B and Jugram's fight shows the tragedy of someone who makes none of their own decisions, and instead follows the will of another with absolute obedience. Spoiler alert Jugram and Yhwach are not the same person, and his relationship with Bazz B proves this point. When they meet, Jugo doesn't even have a name and is uncomfortable being called by the nickname Bazz gives him.
Tumblr media
In an ironic twist of fate, Bazz sort of offers the same thing Yhwach does to Jugo, to give him significance by making him a minion and therefore subordinate to him, though while all Yhwach does is take, Bazz-B is trying to give him something from the relationship because he wants to teach the apparently helpless Jugo how to be strong.
Tumblr media
After the death of both of their families, they were also left with only each other. Much like his relationship to Yhwach too where they are two halves of the same whole (at least they consider themselves to be) Bazz-B and Jugo are completely united in their goals. THis is also something Bazz-B decides for them that they are going to kill Yhwach and something Jugo passively accepts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite the fact that Bazz B is the superior in the relationship, Bazz B didn't keep Jugo around because he was useful but because he cared about him as a person. It's the ultimate irony that as long as Bazz B was the stronger one in the relationship, he never would have ever leaved Jugo behind or betrayed him.
Tumblr media
Their relationship is splintered first when Bazz-B's ambition doesn't pay off, after all he thinks he's the strongest, the most specialest of boys only to be disapointed when Yhwach doesn't even look at him. However, Bazz-B rejects Jugo in that moment out of jealousy.
Tumblr media
Jugo loses his place by Bazz-B's side, and that one flash of jealousy makes him believe that he could only be Bazz-B's friend if he was weaker than him, he even almost gives up entirely on his promotion because he doesn't know who he would be without Bazz-B, and yet Yhwach immediately offers him a better position and what he thinks is the security he's always longed for.
Tumblr media
At that moment Jugo does what Bazz-B never would have done, he chooses to abandon Bazz-B and leave him behind the second it's clear he's been the stronger one all along.
Tumblr media
Which is what Jugo's biggest flaw is, despite the fact he's an extremely powerful quincy he acts helpless. It looks like he's making his own decisions in choosing to side with Yhwach rather than Bazz-B but he's just choosing a new master. The greatest tragic irony is that the future could have been changed, it's not destiny that made it so Bazz-B and Jugo could not be together. They are not star crossed lovers like romeo and juliet. The thing that which made Jugo kill the only thing he loved and chose for himself, is just that, his inability to choose and decide. His helplessness. Bazz-B is actually stronger than Jugo because unlike Jugo he was able to make his own choices until the end, whereas all Jugo could ever do was serve a master until he was discarded too.

I think people underestimate the emotion in this fight. I always felt pity for Soi Fon, especially when she starts to realize this is a losing battle. You can tell she worked her ass of to beat Yoruichi one day, so you can clearly understand why her emotions begin to take over. I would be beyond frustrated with myself if I was in her shoes.
I overall commend Soi Fon though. I can only imagine the obstacles she faced having to take over all of Yoruichi’s responsibilities, all while growing up and trying to manage the grief of losing her mentor. Y’all need to give her more props.

Wolfman Clan
Tumblr media
Sajin is from a clan that were transformed into werewolves due to their sins in life. Unfortunately we never got more then this but hopefully the anime will shed more light on the Wolfman Clan.
Tumblr media
I think it is connected to the original sin of society. Sajin's grandfather knew that the world would not really perish with the death of the Soul King. Which to me hints at two things.
Tumblr media
He knows that the world would return to its original form.
Tumblr media
And that the Soul King was sacrificed to separate the worlds.
Tumblr media
According to Sajin's grandfather the Wolfman Clan's true form is revenge.
Tumblr media
Which is reminiscent of the Quincy who had grudges against the Hollows and Shinigami.
Tumblr media
Maybe the Wolfman Clan wanted to save the Soul King.
Tumblr media
I liked the concept of Shinigami striking Hollows from behind to save them from the turmoil of killing humans. But it kind of felt like cheap drama after it was revealed that Shinigami don't really kill Hollows but what if it is related to the Wolfman Clan.
Tumblr media
Maybe Rukia was indeed right but the reason why was covered up.
Tumblr media
Oetsu's zanpakuto Sayafushi reminds of the tale of the competition between Masumane and Marumasa. Marumasa made a sword that could cut anything while Masumane one that did not needlessly cut. Basically Masumane created holy swords while Marumasa cursed swords.
Tumblr media
I think that maybe there weapons before zanpakuto that let Shinigami kill Hollows similar to the Quincy.
Tumblr media
I think the Wolfman Clan refused to adopt the zanpakuto and continued to kill Hollows. Maybe their sense of justice turned into vengeance.
Tumblr media
I think their mission was to upset the balance of souls to return the world to how it was.
Tumblr media
But they were defeated and turned into wolves.
Tumblr media
I think there punishment was meted out Ichibe through his power of names. He did rename Yhwach black ant and reduce his strength to one. He also has the ability to effect the reincarnation of a soul.

Bleach re-reading SPOILER ALERT
The first time I read the chapters about the Thousand Year Blood War was 10 years ago(-ish). Lately I've realized I don't remember a single thing about how the story goes on, so I started to read them again, while waiting for the streaming to be released on D+.
Spoilers from now on!
Today I was reading the "Everything but the rain" series of chapters from volumes 58/59, in which we get a glimpse of Isshin during his time as a Captain and his past with Masaki, Ichigo's mother. We also learn that Isshin surname at the time was Shiba. Yes that Shiba. (Fyi I'm reading the chapters as if it's the first time, so I don't remember if Kubo put any other flashback about this or not).
In that moment I couldn't help but think about some scenes when Ichigo broke into Soul Society to save Rukia. They make so so much sense now, because not only Rukia herself, but also Byakuya and Ukitake saw the resemblance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here Byakuya answers: "He's not related, at least not... To the one you're thinking of". Given this answer I thought that somehow Byakuya knows who is Ichigo (Isshin's son), while Ukitake didn't realize yet.
Eventually, when Byakuya and Ichigo fight, Byakuya ends up noticing how Ichigo shares the same kind of moral compass as Kaien (or the Shiba family, at least), just like Urahara was surprised when Isshin was ready to give up being a Soul Reaper in order to protect Masaki from hollowification.
Tumblr media
There's one scene though, that stabbed me right in the chest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, both Isshin and Ichigo broke the Soul Society's laws in order to protect the person they love care about: Isshin by going back to the world of the living to check on Masaki; Ichigo by going to the Soul Society to save Rukia from being executed.
I don't know about you, but I'm to cry in a corner.
P.s.: I've just noticed that "Blade and me" is also the title of volume 8 with Zangetsu on the cover 😭
