for all this season felt a little all over the place, I love that they ended it how it started, with midge and susie.

The first Barbie-branded doll that was depicted as Black was Francie, "Barbie's modern friend". Francie debuted in 1966 as a Caucasian model but a darker-skinned version of Francie was released in 1967. I can't find a picture that I can confirm is definitely the original Black Francie from 1967, but here is the best I can find.
Left: an early white Francie. Middle: an early darker-skinned Francie. Right: a later rerelease of the Black Francie.
In 1968, a year later, Mattel debuted Christie. Christie was advertised as being the first doll in the Barbie range to be Black.
Christie had a few different iterations over the years, and was eventually discontinued. In 1980, Mattel launched a new series including a variety of more diverse dolls - including the first Black doll in the Barbie range to be marketed not as one of "Barbie's friends", but as Barbie herself.
She was designed by Mattel's first Black designer - a woman named Louvenia (Kitty) Black Perkins.
Kitty Black Perkins depicted left, the 40th anniversary "first Black Barbie" release depicted right.
Several other dolls in the Barbie range have been depicted as Black; some consistently, and some occasionally. For example the controversial Happy Family set ("Pregnant Midge") had both a white version and a Black version.

A sound startles him before the floor beneath them goes.
When he's back onto earth, his backside aches.
"Midge!" Gale looks to her, and his expression? It's, well, awed is perhaps the word. He has seen the Outer Planes, had been Mystra's once-treasured paramour, and yet, despite every happenstance of a godly nature, it's Midge's curiosity that would turn his mind. Now, he sits there, knocked winded in some crypt, and with his head caught spinning and his rear-end sore, their situation, strange, settles in. "Right." School yourself, Gale. Above them, the trapdoor she'd triggered jutters back in place. Of course. "I believe a rather long overdue discussion on self restraint is well in order," he begins, rising to his feet. "Are you alright?" Their friends are cut off. "And if you are, for our sake, I suggest we bind you." Unbidden, he's the image of a cat in a sock.
@triickst, liked for a starter.

jesus christ midge outs a gay black man on stage, in his hometown harlem stage, doing her "comedy act" and as a result of this blatant breach of trust and contract, she's dropped from being the opener for his tour bc of course she was its incredibly out of line to do that. instead of ruminating on her actions, she has the audacity to open s4 with this:
the taylor swift white woman energy i swear.. this show is written thru such a narrow white feminist lens it's appalling.

Also: have anyone done a gifset of all of Midge's black show dresses? Would love to see that!
My favourite is the one she wears to the Catskills show where Abe shows up. Love me a good "back-drama" dress. What are yours?
