This handsome fella is a Dollzone Raymond-1 in normal pink, color matched to Dollzone normal yellow from 2015, which is a very dark almost tan color.
I do love adding scars to dolls, even if it is time consuming (mostly because I gotta wait for the glue to dry before I can continue).
It's amazing how different a doll looks painted vs unpainted!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just look at that! Before being painted he looked kind of worried, now he looks like he's just done with taking BS.

This handsome fella is Opal Ragna, the last of the Ragna brothers. I already owned the other two brothers (Drow and Topaz), so I had to get third one too. He arrived this year (head in February and body in April) and he is one of Val’s lovers. I wanted him to look like a gentle soul but kind of conflicted too…
Opal and his brothers are actually my wife’s characters, but she’s allowed me to shell them to complete a few couples from our rp stories. I still need to get a pic of all 3 brothers together and how different they look!
The what is what:
Sculpt: Simply Divine Richard in Venetian Luna white skin color matched to his Doll Family-A 65cm boy body in normal pink
Outfit: CapsuleDollBJD on Insta
Wig: eBay wig in 8-9
Eyes: ashuradark on Etsy (14/6mm)
Faceup: me over at @izasfaceups

Obsessed with this limited doll but I can't justify it when I'm already waiting for two others and I'm broke T_T
It's Doll Zone 57cm Nana. I'm thinking fashion-designer-turned-zombie and it's so creepy cute, saving as inspiration for a future faceup

Second part of the Dollshe Saint commission, final shots this time. Very much in love with the SA faceplate, which is why I dressed him up for one candid shot at the end too. ???, Dollshe Saint - belongs to PacificBlue Customization, photos and editing by me

HIIIIII !!!!! i’ve sort of taken a break from dollblr lately because all but 1 of my dolls are tucked away in a storage box with really no potential to come out of the box anytime soon 😞 but in the meantime, i’ve been going through Dollie Withdrawal….so i found dolls small enough to have in my tiny new space! these are my first ball jointed dolls, and they’re SO tiny (11.5-12.5cm!!!!). pictures and face-paint progress below!
so this is what they looked like fresh out of the package. theyre from artpractic on etsy, and i think they’re 3D printed. all of their tiny little joints bend and move just like a larger BJD, it’s so cool!! they’re also the only “adult” size dolls i’ve ever had i think, except for Barbies. i purchased them planning to make 2 of the main characters from the Faeries of Dreamdark series (if anyone is familiar with those — 2 middle grade/young adult fairy fantasy books that came out in the mid 2000s). the characters are actually younger, sort of generically young teenagers (although faeries age slower, so theyre both over 100 years old). these are the wings i was thinking about, based on the character’s’ descriptions
Tumblr media Tumblr media
first i dyed the male doll with Rit to match the character (who’s from what’s basically faerie India), which worked ok. it isnt too patchy, and he’ll be wearing long pants and sleeves sooner or later, so that will hide the parts that didnt take the dye too well. i used watercolor pencils to give them both some body blushing and basic coloring, then went in with acrylic paint and the tiniest little brush i could find for the details. i think it’s not too bad for my first full face paint, especially not on faces the size of my pinky nail!! i also used acrylic paint for body details like scars — the characters are a warrior and a guardian, so they have their fair share of scars and injuries throughout the book. i also gave the male doll top surgery scars, because the character has always read as trans to me
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i can’t quite decide which wings for one of them, though. for context, this character Hirik Mothmage has big moth wings that are described as black and ruby hawkmoth wings. personally, i always imagined him with silk moth wings, no idea why. either way, these are my two options: neither are hawkmoth wings, so it’s just based on what looks better. he’ll have brownish-black hair and also big brown moth antennae above his eyebrows, if that gives a fuller picture
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the other character is Whisper Silksinger. she’s a scamperer, not able to fly, which is why her wings are so much smaller
this has been so fun though, and it’s really scratching my Dollie itch. i’ve always stayed away from itty bitty dolls like this, because i’m clumsy and not very dextrous and tend to fumble around blindly with anything smaller than a Barbie doll, but it’s been a fun challenge! now i have to figure out hair and then clothing. not sure if trying to make a wig will be easier, or if i should just glue the hair right onto their heads, lol

i think that more bjds should be visibly trans. i'm going to be prototyping some water slide decals for top surgery and phalloplasty scars for bjds soon so i can see more trans bjds around so u can just slap em on and your dolls have scars. it is time for more people to do that. it is time for More visibly trans dolls.

More Unboxing stuff and my plans under the cut
PS If anyone would like to be on a tag list for my mans, please let me know! Also, Ask me Anything! (About dolls and other stuff)
Dream Valley Cayes from Alice's Collections (an amazing BJD agent!)
I can't do anything yet with him since I am leaving for an extended trip later this week BUT HE SO BEAUTIFUL! I got two heads, a skin-colored head and a white head so I can do Moustache/Sideburns Popia head.
He has longer limbs than normal MSD so the initial clothes I got for him don't fit super well. Guess I have to make some more thorough patterns for him!
I am going to be using my other body as a model for the clothes since I will be doing a full body blush on this guy. Tattoos, hair, scars, everything--- I really enjoy the challenge of making a doll as realistic as possible. (In many ways)
I am getting his wig made by a wig maker because tbh I really dislike making wigs and short hair wigs are really difficult to make. So this guy got the special treatment.
Dream Valley takes a super long time to get to you but I am really impressed by their wrapping and extras.
Unboxing Pics Below!

It was high time I repainted my tan Dollzone Stramonium, as she'd had the same faceup since 2015 and I have definitely improved.
Since I got her partner (Dollzone Raymond) in and painted him in November 2023, I felt she needed an update as well.
I still need to take a family picture of them and their daughter. It's on my dollieh to do list for 2024.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The faceup from end of 2013 was my first faceup where I used brush with paints instead of watercolor pencils to do eye details. I'd been doing faceups for about 2 years back then, but it felt like I had to relearn faceupping from scratch!
That's why my big advice to people that want to get into faceupping is to start with the techinques and mediums that they want to achieve, meaning if they want feathery lashes done with brush, they should start with that, not watercolor pencils.

Hewwo dollblr hey its me again, Lou, hey
So i do feel like i might get into bjds next year, however for my first doll I am still a bit wary and on the fence what to go for because I want
A doll with top surgery scars
I mean it would be optimal if they could be "molded" on so you can actually feel them, but painted on would be nice too.
So I have a few questions and wondered if anyone coulr help me answer
1. What seller carries new dolls with something like top surgery scars and or the option to paint them on?
2. Could it be possible to buy a used dolll/second hand and ship it to someone who foes face ups and the like to get hem at least painted on?
3. Is there a safe way to maybe mold/paint them on by myself?
Thank you allready so much for your help :3

Mermaze Mermaids factory rejects: $8 each at aliexpress.com/item/1005004823831727.html I was curious about these but waiting for them to hit second hand. $8 felt fair enough even if they end up as hair donors.
I love a glitter shaker doll like Novi Starz but $50 (45€) for a top and a jacket, a body that looks too skinny, glare-y eyes and light eyes on all the dark skinned dolls rubs me the wrong way. They’re cool but for $50 I expect swappable legs and a second outfit.
Ok where to start? Nera with the dark blue hair: she barely shed so that’s great, it’s kiwi with some bobble tinsel. She tried MC2 Camryn’s eyes which are the same eyes used on Mermaze but the eye sockets are too shallow and wide: they’ve reused their eye stock but didn’t redo the doll molds properly so that the eyes don’t bulge and glare. These eyes look fantastic on Project MC2 dolls (see review by ToyBox philosopher) and just wrong on Mermaze, I’ve ranted about inset eyes before but basically if you mess that up, you kneecap your doll line.
So I put milliput into the sockets and placed an acrylic iris in there which was actually a ton of work to get right and clean and smooth. It’s not as detailed an iris as i’d like but still SO much better than fish eyes. I removed her under eye glitter, reblushed, acetoned the sides of her brows too close to the hairline and the bottom of her lips painted too low.
Harmonique lilac got Adrienne’s eyes and I’m not sure i’ll keep them, it’s better than her pale turquoise eyes but still unfocused: the eyes need to be the main attraction. Her hair was trashed, I’m pretty sure the original has 3 lengths: 11cm twirls, 23cm main bulk and 30cm ponytails so buyer beware if you plan to restyle her. I cut mine down to 23cm.
Beyond that original photo, after i’d carefully sectioned out hair to salvage, I ended up just discovering more and more damage: hair sliced at 7mm-3cm along all three of her partings along with a bunch of rooting error knots.
That’s the risk of factory rejects. A risk I probably shouldn’t be taking with hard heads, I added ten or so knot method extra plugs to replace missing hair in front... shoulders still too fragile to do any more. She has a scar on her forehead and is light brown toned. Both should be easy to find bodies for (Nera is fakie pale pink or Cloe toned) but that neck hole will need modifying.
I’m not annoyed at paint or rooting errors, that comes with buying factory rejects. It’s part of the fun, the puzzle of repairing. ^__^
I am really put off by the decision to not invest in a better eye design and the way they’ve made rebodying these dolls a serious breakage risk between the tiny neck and very hard plastic. It seems they’re launching a spin-off line with better designed faces called Siren sisters so maybe save your money for that?
If you do want to get these dolls I recommend slicing into the back of the head above the second line of plugs and slicing out the eye sockets so you can place BJD 10mm eyes.

Commission on Dollshe Saint faceplates, first part! I first took on this commission ten years ago, on another SA Saint faceplate. Now the new owner asked me to give that guy a fresh attempt, with a matching OE face this time too. Since the old SA should not be wiped I was able to make a comparison between the two SAs, pretty crazy to see them together like that. The OE was airbrushed to match, since it was quite yellowed. Because of that the surface is pretty grainy, and the details as well, but I am pretty happy how well the skintones match now. You win some, you lose some :D ???, Dollshe Saint - belongs to PacificBlue Customization, photos and editing by me

I just wanted to post a silly scar tutorial for how i personally do scars on my bjds 👍
1. Do a mockup to get a good idea of where you want your scar, use reference images if you need to! The specific scar kind that I'm trying to follow is a hypertrophic one, so the scar itself is raised up
2. Do the rest of the faceup, the scar looks the best if added on with the rest of your acrylic paint/finishing touches
3. Get red paint (any shade will do), a pale flesh tone (if doing this on a paler doll, otherwise get one closer to your dolls skin tone), and a few colors of watercolor pencil (i used a reddish brown, a brown, a pink and a white) as well as a soft pastel in a color you might use to shade the doll (I used a warm light brown)
Onto painting!
First I traced the scar shape roughly with my reddish brown watercolor pencil and then painted over it with 2 thin coats of red acrylic paint. My paint is very cheap so i did it in pretty thin layers to work with it the best
Tumblr media
Then i mixed my close to skin color (the shade i used was called portrait pink, this doll is white resin but i figured this would work fine) with a tiny bit of my red paint and painted over the red, leaving a thin line of the red on the outside. It's not a huge deal if you cover up the edge in some parts because you can always outline it again :)
Tumblr media
^ it's very faint bc it's wet and i was working in thin coats but you can see a few areas that it covered the red I had on there before
Then i added a bit of this mix to some white to SLIGHTLY lighten it, then covered my coat with that, again leaving a slight line of the peach color around the edge
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ first pic is after showing how i have it layered and the second is just a further away pic of it
Then i used my reddish brown watercolor pencil to re establish the red boundaries and to add a bit of texture to it!
Tumblr media
After all of this has dried, I began working on the lines that make it a hypertrophic scar, starting with using a brown pencil to make horizontal lines
Tumblr media
Using a shade i would use to add shadows to this doll, I went over the scar a BIT to make it a bit less red and a bit more skin colored. No clue if this actually did anything, but i feel it slightly neutralized it
Tumblr media
^ holding the color i used by the head
I then added in MORE lines with the reddish brown pencil i used for outlines and added some lines with the pink pencil in between these darker lines to help simulate some light hitting the scar and to make it look more raised
Tumblr media
Then added gloss and it's all done :)
After the gloss dried, here's how it looked:
Tumblr media
^ the gloss tends to make it a bit darker red but it turned out well!
For further reference, here's the mockup i did of it with the colors I used in the digital mockup for the scar
Tumblr media
Text transcript:
Red dot -> Red line
Peach dot -> cover red with peachy color minus a small line
Lighter peach dot-> slightly lighter color
Brown dot -> watercolor pencil, add lines going <-->
Slightly darker brown dot -> add shading by doing larger lines and blurring over (this was mainly what i did for the digital mockup not irl)
Light pink dot (with arrow leading from the word darker back to the brown dot)-> watercolor pencil, add lighter shades between darker lines
