Do you love to shop?⁣ ⁣ To buy or not to buy? That's the question I always ask myself everytime I think of making a purchase of something that I think I need (but most likely just want). After having kiddos I realized 2 things:⁣ ⁣ 1) kids are money-sucking black holes 😉 🤣. Between diapers, clothes/shoes (that fit today and don't tomorrow), and all the other things they need/want, it seems as if money goes in and out like a revolving door. ⁣ ⁣ 2) I just don't value the same things as I did in my younger years. "Queen I" turné / "Queen I” tour 🎤

1973. szeptember 13-án elkezdődött a „Queen I” turné, amikor a BBC Radio 1 készített a srácokkal egy élő koncertfelvételt az „In Concert” című sorozatuk számára, a Golders Green Hippodromeban. Sikerült eljutniuk Németországba és Luxembourgba is, ezek voltak a Queen első külföldi szereplései. Ezután visszatértek Londonba, ahol hatalmas sikert arattak a Paris Theatreben, majd két koncertet adtak az Imperial Collegeban is, ahol november 2-án lezajlott az első teltházas koncertjük. Rosemary Horide az alábbi kritikát írta meg a koncert után: „A frontember, Freddie Mercury fel-alá járkált a kis színpadon, egyszerre volt heves és érzéki, ahogyan a mikrofont lengette, miközben első albumuk dalai szóltak. Ha a Queen ilyen jó formában lesz a Mott The Hoople-turnén is, akkor jobb, ha a Mott résen lesz. Lehet, hogy a Queen több lesz ott, mint egyszerű elő zenekar.”

A Mott The Hoople együttes elő zenekaraként 1973. november 12-én indultak útnak. A 24 állomásos turnét Leedsben, a Town Hallban kezdték el, ahol előadtak pár dalt az első albumról, kipróbálták, hogy hogyan reagál a közönség a második lemez egyes számaira, majd bedobtak néhány biztos sikert is, mint például a „Big Spender”-t. Freddie eközben a legbotrányosabb formáját hozta. A zenei sajtóban számos negatív kritika jelent meg erről a koncertről, azonban ezek a kritikák a zenével nem törődtek, csak azzal, hogy sértő, személyeskedő megjegyzéseket tegyenek az előadókra. Az együttes tagjai azonban úgy voltak vele, hogy „jobb, ha lenéznek, mintha átnéznek rajtunk”.

1973. december 3-án a Queen tagjai részt vettek második rádiófelvételükön a BBC „Sound of the Seventies” műsorában, ahol a „Great King Rat”, a „Son and Daughter”, a „Modern Times Rock ’N’ Roll” és az „Ogre Battle” című szerzeményeiket vették fel. Decemberben a Queen két további koncertet adott a híres londoni Hammersmith Odeonban.

Then they returned to London, where they had huge success at the Paris Theatre, and then gave two concerts at Imperial College, where their first full house concert took place on November 2. Rosemary Horide wrote the following criticism after the concert: “Frontman Freddie Mercury was walking up and down on the small stage, at the same time intense and sensual as he swayed the microphone while singing songs from their first album. The band premiered on November 12, 1973 as a pre-band for Mott The Hoople. The 24-stop tour began at Town Hall in Leeds, where they performed a few songs from the first album, tested how the audience reacted to the tracks on the second album, and then tossed in some winning hits like "Big Spender." Freddie was in the most scandalous form on this concert. There were many negative criticisms of this concert in the music press, but these criticisms were not about music, only about making offensive, personal comments on the performers. However, the band members said that "it is better to look down than doesn’t take into account".

On December 3, 1973, members of the Queen attended their second radio show on the BBC's "Sound of the Seventies," featuring "Great King Rat," "Son and Daughter," "Modern Times Rock 'N' Roll" and they recorded "Ogre Battle". In December, the Queen gave two more concerts at the famous Hammersmith Odeon in London.

Miközben a srácok ötleteltek, hogy hogyan juthatnának előrébb a zenei világ meghódításához vezető úton, Roy Thomas Baker és John Anthony magánakcióba kezdtek a „Keep Yourself Alive” demóval a kezükben. A lemezt elvitték Norman és Barry Sheffieldnek, akik a Trident Studiost vezették. Norman érdekesnek találta a felvételt, de mégsem sikerült meggyőzni. Arra azonban rá tudták venni, hogy menjen el egy Queen fellépésre, hátha akkor megváltozik a véleménye. A koncert a Forest Hill Hospitalben került megrendezésre, 1972. március 24-én, ahol a Queen tökéletesen játszott és a Sheffield testvéreket sikerült lenyűgözniük. „Megnéztük a koncertet, és Barry alig hitt a szemének, amikor elnyomták Shirley Bassey „Big Spender”-jét. Azonnal kijelentette, hogy „Igazad volt, le kell szerződtetnünk őket!””. – mesélte Anthony.

Nem sokkal később a Queen tagjai ellátogattak a Trident Studiosba, hogy megbeszéljék a szerződés részleteit. Norman Sheffield így emlékszik vissza az első találkozásra: „Roger Taylor nagyon jóképű srác volt, hosszú szőke haj, és csupa sárm. Brian May magas volt, göndör sörénnyel, és bár kicsit visszahúzódónak tűnt, lerítt róla, hogy mennyire intelligens. A basszusgitáros, John Decaon szintén csendes volt. Azonnal tudtam, hogy a negyedik bandataggal lesz a legtöbb gond. Elbűvölő volt, egy kicsit félénknek tűnt, néha visszafogottnak, és elég flancos, modoros stílusban beszélt. Miután ellazult, átjött, milyen csípős humora van, és nagyjából száz mérföld per órás sebességgel beszélt. Beleegyeztem, hogy szerződést ajánljunk nekik, de semmi komolyban nem maradtunk. Voltak úgynevezett „sötét időszakok” a stúdióban, amikor senki nem zenélt, olyan hajnal 2 körül. Úgyhogy megmondtuk, hogy „Eljöhettek akkor, amikor üresjárat van, és meglátjuk, mire vagytok képesek.””.

Mivel a bandatagok kénytelenek voltak éjszaka és hajnalban használni a stúdiót, sok órát töltöttek a folyosókon és várótermekben, mely időszakokat az ötleteik megvitatására és új dalok írására fordítottak.

As the guys produced ideas how to get ahead on the road to conquering the music world, Roy Thomas Baker and John Anthony had an idea with the "Keep Yourself Alive" demo in their hands. The album was taken to Norman and Barry Sheffield, who led Trident Studios. Norman found the recording interesting, but failed to convince him. However, they were persuaded to go to a Queen show to see if he changed his mind. The concert took place at Forest Hill Hospital on March 24, 1972, where the Queen played perfectly and managed to impress the Sheffield brothers. "We watched the concert and Barry could hardly believe his eyes when Shirley Bassey's Big Spender was suppressed. He immediately stated, "You were right, we must hire them!". - Anthony said.

Shortly afterwards, members of the Queen visited Trident Studios to discuss details of the contract. Norman Sheffield remembers the first encounter: “Roger Taylor was a very handsome guy with long blond hair and all charm. Brian May was tall, with a curly mane, and though he seemed a little retarded, he was very intelligent. Bassist John Decaon was also quiet. I knew immediately that the fourth gang member would have the most trouble. He was glamorous, looked a bit shy, sometimes low-key, and spoke in a rather posh, fashionable style. After he relaxed, he came across his pungent humor and spoke at about a hundred miles per hour. I agreed to offer them a contract, but there was nothing serious about it. There were so-called "dark periods" in the studio when no one was playing around 2am. So we said, "You can come when it's „dark period” and we'll see what you are capable of." As band members were forced to use the studio at night and at dawn, they spent many hours in corridors and lounges devoted to discussing their ideas and writing new songs.
