Recreated 1994 - 2024
In 1994 I took my first pipe vid using a JVC Camcorder and captured on an Amiga 1200. Shortly after, before the likes of Google, YT, Tumblr, OF, FB and X, using 14400 dialup, I created my own website 'BigAl's Space', using Netscape and writing the HTML in plain text, and seeded the site across Geocities and Yahoo. Smokeybruiser happened 13 years later. Here's that vid from 1994 followed by my recreation today - April 2024 - with the same pipe!

Uprooted, stripped of its context, the tree is an individual as majestic as it is vulnerable. It tells the story of its life, of its coming into being in a nature shaped by man, of origins that are much older than mankind and of its own life under and above the earth. His upside-down, floating appearance is at the same time an expression of his own transience as well as that of us humans. Thus, he is a symbol of the fateful connection between man and nature.

Melina Bigale's artistic practice deals with the way people live and live. The focus of the work is on objects that come from everyday life – worn-out items that were disposed of by their previous owners. By selecting the objects specifically for the exhibition space, recombining them, arranging them and processing them through sculptural interventions, the artist gives them a further perspective and thus places them in a new context. They seem like lonely witnesses to an unknown, but yet familiar-looking story.
Melina Bigale's plant installations are about the dialogue between people and nature. She digs up trees from front gardens and moves them into the exhibition space. At the end of their use, the trees that have grown and trimmed over the years become a mixture of natural plastic and artificial sculpture. The plant grows in free form while humans cut it back to its useful function. In Bigale's installations, the trees are robbed of their function of exclusion and confinement and exposed through their exposed roots. The contrast in content between function and dysfunction is underlined by the irritating moment of mental location of the familiar object and the removal from the usual perspective.

Whether consciously or unconsciously, humans have always created artificiality. We live in a man-made environment where even trees in our gardens exist as a mimic of real nature. We determine their growth habit by pruning over the years. Primeval, unaffected by humans forests also mostly grow in areas divided by humans. Everything should be subject to human influence and control and will be changed accordingly.
The German artist Melina Bigale is interested in borders where natural and anthropogenic processes meet. With found objects and multimedia installations, Bigale intervenes in existing spaces and asks 'what we build from, what we live in.' With her work, she demonstrates the relativity of the resulting artificiality. And she shows that, in the end, nature wins, because it has an uncontrollable power — time.

The Deluxe Insecticons were a quadrio of Decepticons with insect alternate modes sold during the second year of the Transtormers toyline. Consisting of Venom the cicada, Chop Shop the stag beetle, Barrage the rhinoceros beetle, and Ransack the grasshopper, these four were different from the cheaper non-Deluxe trio of Insecticons that most people were familiar with, as their toys were originally designed by Artmic as part of the Armored Insect Corps Beetras toyline by Takatoku Toys, rather than by Takara for their own Diaclone toyline.
Each Insecticon was originally designed as an Insecter mecha to be piloted by one of Beetras' main cast members. Barrage was originally Beet-Gadol, Chop Shop was originally Beet-Gugal, Venom was Beet-Zeguna, and Ransack was Beet-Vadam (whose toy went unreleased by the time Takatoku collapsed). Alongside these four was a fifth, female mecha named Beet-Papil, themed after a ladybug. In addition, an attempt to refresh the brand as Beet Seven renamed the mecha Beet-Leide, giving her old name to a new mecha themed after a butterfly, as well as creating a new firefly-themed mecha dubbed Beet-Bigal. None of these three designs have been reused as inspiration for any new Transformers characters.

Got one of those notifications from Instagram about "someone who you might know" being there. Their username began with "bigal" followed by some numbers. I immediately assumed that was "bi gal". Looking at the profile it was somebody named Alan that one of my coworkers apparently knows (and I do not) and I'm 99% sure I was supposed to read that as "big Al".
