listen I honestly think wilson really enjoyed that little arc where he was cooking every single one of house’s meals. I know he’s house’s main source of food anyway but usually just via ‘stolen’/bought lunch at work. I’m talking about when they lived together in season 2 and his ass made macadamia nut pancakes for breakfast on a WEEKDAY. and pot roast for dinner. so much effort and for what…because house was gobbling that shit up…? yes he complained about it every time but he also had an extra fork on hand when house came home to stuffed peppers. it feeds into his need to be needed complex. the intimate dependency of someone relying on you for sustenance. also why they used food as the metaphor for why house was craving his presence. this is what I mean when I say that wilson deserved a housewife era. house went stir crazy within like 12 seconds of doing all their chores because he requires Stimulation™️ but I’m completely convinced that it would act as enrichment for wilson. if I told him to go make me a sandwich he’d roll his eyes and then passive aggressively make a delicious one. actually that literally happened in son of a coma guy. case closed

People say that northern food is bland when in reality, northern food done poorly is bland.

Northern food relies a lot on the flavor of the ingredients instead of spices to get its flavor. Just a hint of seasoning, like salt and pepper. The point of it is to let the ingredients stand out. If it's not cooked to respect the natural flavor, it's going to taste bad.

So no, we don't cover or laden or dishes with spices. It stems from the fact that the north doesn't provide a great environment for spices. But we found how to make our food taste good without it.

Case in point:

I made a clam chowder earlier this year with a recipe that was more orientated for my state. Salt and pepper were the only seasonings- the flavor came from the clam juice and bacon. It was good.

I've made Dublin coddle several times, which is an Irish dish. Salt and pepper are the main seasonings. It gets its flavor from the sausage and bacon, and the vegetables. It makes a delicious gravy to mop up with the right kind of bread.

Northern food isn't bland. It needs to be cooked right.

How would bill feel if dipper reincarnated as an incubus?

I made curry for the first time today! as usual, I just followed a recipe, but this one was just on the back of the box of curry sauce mix. it contains onions, potatoes, carrots, and chicken. it took me a lot longer than it probably should have because I did a lot of things I'd never done before. chopping onions was new for me, but then again, so was buying onions - I had to ask my girlfriend what a "normal" onion was when I was shopping. it burned like hell and I shed a lot of tears. and I swear I can still smell them even hours later. chopping potatoes was also new for me, but the smell made me wish I had mashed potatoes - maybe I'll try making those some time.

I was really worried I would mess something up, but overall, this turned out really delicious! I ended up finishing off my entire plate in about 10 minutes, which is extremely fast for me; I'm usually a very slow eater. I do have to say, I wish it had any spice in it at all. I got the mildest flavor because I know I handle spice badly, but I think next time I'll have to get a spicier kind and then work my way up from there. I think next time, I also want to try experimenting a little more by adding more types of vegetables.

overall though, I'm happy that I've taken the first step in another new recipe. sure it took me a few hours, but at least I have enough leftovers to last me for days ^^

dishes are forever

Watching TMNT 2003 again as an adult makes me love 03 Raph a lot more than I did as a kid.

I remember not really liking him as a kid, of being a little scared of him, because he was angry all the time. Because he was loud and mean and unfriendly.

But as an adult, with a lot of shit under my belt that nobody should have to ever deal with, I kind of understand him better. He’s a teenager. His feelings are too big. He’s emotional but he doesn’t know how to deal with those emotions, especially when he’s the Tough Guy. So he funnels everything into anger because it’s easy. Being angry is easy. It’s easier than letting himself feel hurt, easier than crying, easier than all the complicated feelings that come with being a teenager. Easier than trying to deal with the chaos and mess that is his life.

Being angry is so easy.

But at the same time, I can tell how soft he actually is. How he shows he cares about his family through his actions, rather than his words. Because words are hard and stupid and he doesn’t know how to put them together in a way to make others understand him. The ribbing he gives Leo all the time, the little smacks he gives Mikey, stuff like that. It’s familiar. He does it all the time. His family knows him, knows it’s how he shows he’s listening and that he cares. (And yes, obviously the argument can be made that he’s a Tough Guy because this was the early 2000s and Boys Don’t Have Feelings and 2003 is dark and edgy etc, etc. But shut up. You’re wrong.)

I just. Was thinking about 03 Raph and his big feelings and the kindness he struggles to show in a world that doesn’t want him to be kind. 03 Raph’s a good guy. He’s a good brother. I bet he gives the Best Damn Hugs.

I've played so much ffxv but i never realised how much Prompto and Ignis randomly hang out together until now and my heart is soft ;_; *lies down on the floor*

So far we've got:

Ignis sometimes asking Prompto specifically to help him shopping when they arrive at a rest area/gas station

When waking up at the chocobo ranch, sometimes they'll be standing by the chocobo pens together while Gladio's off somewhere else

Just now I woke up at Taelpar Rest Area and they're standing by the road together

Sometimes when they rest at a caravan, they're inside by the door just having a conversation and they both look so relaxed

Another one of those situations where if the younger Grace Field kids present the crown to him he's on board with little to no fuss, especially if they frame it as a celebration of the day they started their path to freedom, or note it's the day where they first noticed where the way he carried himself was lighter and happier than how he was back at the house (but especially after Norman was shipped, although that's a sad time they all try to forget). And how can he say no to that when it shows how much they care.

(Norman being the one to originally find it while discreetly guiding Emma's attention toward it so she can throw 110% of her energy and enthusiasm behind him wearing it because "it matches your eyes when the sun hits them" and "they're happy every year they have a chance to celebrate it with him" optional.)

Pepe made the cake, but kept it a secret to pull a bit of a mini-prank on everyone.

He knew Ray would appreciate it after their many conversations in the quiet of the kitchen where it was just the two of them enjoying each other's company and getting lost in the soothing rhythm of cooking and baking.

I'm romanticizing tf out of this i know but the most basic of things like being able to leave the house without accounting and walking to run my errands and being able to turn up the heat because I run cold. Like. The most basic of freedoms. AND catching up on myyears long sleep debt??

Oh THIS page fucks. 

Even just the top two panels, where Evil Wolverine reaches out of the darkness to grasp the light. And once he’s done, it’s grey all across. How Evil Wolverine is grasping at the balance of the universe (like the black and white of the yin yang symbol) and crushing it until it’s all a blur and there are no lines or divisions anymore. When he says he’ll wager “everything” he means it literally - not just everything he has to lose, but everything that exists. The entire universe and everyone in it. He doesn’t have that right, but he’s taking it and forcing it to be up for trade as he gambles existence itself on him being able to get what he wants. 

(And what a vivid contrast that is to Yuuko’s wishes. When you make a wish you can only trade something of yourself. Other people can pay for you, but you can’t steal from others to pay for your wish. Which is exactly what Evil Wolverine is essentially doing - stealing from literally everyone else to fulfill his own wish)

And then the comparison between the two of them at the bottom. Evil Wolverine closing his eyes in passionate determination, and Yuuko’s...

Whatever expression you would label that. Disgust? Sympathy? Pity? Horror? Something else entirely?

Whatever it is, it’s instantly iconic. 

tbh i think the trait of mine that my favs appreciate the least is that i have to look at a menu before going to a restaurant so i am not faced with surprises

My #1 advice for people moving out is to NOT buy nonstick cookware... not only is the lifespan of nonstick a MAXIMUM of 7 years (usually more like 2-5 years) but teflon, aka Polytetrafluoroethylene-- the plastic coating that makes the cookware nonstick, infuses microplastics into your food.

New cookware sets can cost hundreds of dollars so my advice is to look for 100% stainless steel cookware in thrift stores. Safer, cheaper, & instead of needing to replace every 2-7 years they can potentially last you the entire rest of your life AND they won't start shedding plastic into your food
