Never Forgotten - An Arthur Shelby/Reader Short Story.
I am in the mood to create tonight, my loves! Here's another for you :)
Tumblr media
Words - 778
Warnings - Fluff ahead! :D
“Love! I’m home!” he booms from the front door, your jaw tightening immediately. “Where are ya?”
“Kitchen.” Your tone is flat, the irritation you’ve been attempting to recover yourself from roaring into life once more, like a dying fire doused in petrol.
He’s brought it on himself, though, as he so often does.
You hear his heavy footsteps grow louder, the kitchen door shunted open with a squeak. “Gotta oil them hinges.” he mutters.
It’s just one more thing he says he’ll get around to. Unless he forgets completely. Just like certain other important things.
“Sweetheart, leave them dishes now. Turn around and look at your husband,” he instructs. To anyone else, it would sound like a baleful demand, but that’s just Arthur and his baritone, a voice like boulders crashing against one another. It’s the sexiest thing in the world when he’s in a state of arousal, but that’s the furthest thing from your mind right now.
Right now, you feel like walloping him with the meat tenderiser you’ve just washed in the hot, soapy water.
“Come on, petal. Look at me.”
You’re all set to fix him with the same glare you viewed him with across the breakfast table this morning, drying your hands as you turn away from the sink. When you take him in, though, you couldn’t be more surprised.
“Thought I’d forgotten, didn’t ya?” he beams, proffering the gigantic bunch of red roses and champagne bottle he carries forth. “Happy anniversary, my little dove.”
You don’t completely thaw as he presses a kiss to your lips, eyeing him with suspicion as you part. “You still could have forgotten, Arthur. Hence why I’m receiving these gifts now rather than this morning.”
He raises his eyebrows. “That right, is it?”
“It is,” you state, placing the flowers and bottle down on the table.
He jerks his head in the direction of the back door, taking your hand and kissing it. “This ain’t your whole present. Come on.”
Walking you out along the path that leads to your flower garden there at your beautiful country cottage, he lets out a piercing whistle, the sound of string instruments beginning to filter out. Rounding the corner, you gasp at the sight of two violinists and a cellist, stationed a little way from an elegantly prepared table, a smartly dressed waiter standing in wait.
“Greetings, Mrs Shelby. My name is Bryant, and I shall be your waiter tonight. Please, do take a seat and allow me to furnish you with a glass of champagne.”
You turn to Arthur, your eyes wide, mouth dropped open. “How?”
He reaches beneath your chin, closing your mouth. “You’ll catch flies like that.”
“But... how did you do all this without me seeing? I could have been out to hang the washing, anything!”
“But you weren’t, were ya?” he chuckles, pulling a chair away from the table and gesturing for you to sit. “They all got here while you were out with Jenny for afternoon tea. I made her keep you out for longer than usual.”
You had wondered, why your best friend had lingered over the tiny cakes and finger sandwiches, rather than devouring the tea with her usual gusto. She was in cahoots with your husband here. Damn them! Damn then, but also, bless them, for giving you the most beautiful surprise you certainly didn’t expect. In fact, you spent half the afternoon bending her ear over how pissed off you were with him.
No wonder she’d looked like she was trying to hide her amusement at times. You’d just taken it as her reacting to Arthur being his usual self.
“And how have they managed to bring dinner out here?”
He leans across the table, thanking the waiter when he fills the two empty flutes with champagne. “Food can travel, you know.”
You roll your eyes with a sigh. “Arthur.”
“What?” he booms, laughing. Oh, he finds this much too funny for your liking. “I dunno, they stick it all in a pot, whack it in the back of a car and there you go! I dunno the fucking logistics, I just paid ‘em!”
You chew the side of your cheek in mild fury, which juxtaposes with how much your heart is bursting with love for him. “You let me think you forgot deliberately, didn’t you?”
His moustache bristles, his grin beaming from beneath. “Suppose I did. Can’t deny I like it when you’re fiery, though. What can I say, love? I like a lamb in the kitchen and a tiger in the bedroom.”
When he finally gets you there a few hours later, you certainly do show him a wild time.

It All Began (2)
Chapter 2! There are blasters in this one. There is also art that I spent church working on. (shhh.) It's definitely based on that one manga panel. AO3 link here!
Tumblr media
I don't know what I'm doing. Anyway here's the chapter.
Darkness
"So," Shadow asked, swinging his legs against the table legs, "how does it fit?" He couldn't keep the smile off of his face.
Vio turned the holographic door off, revealing the little locker room he'd changed in. He had a small smile on his face, and once again, Shadow found his heart lightening at the sight. Convincing Vaati to give him a chance to turn Vio traitor had been the best thing Shadow had ever done.
It was very much worth the extra work, and he barely noticed the insults and shoe thrown his way.
"'How does it fit?' Shadow." Vio had changed from the standard uniform he'd been given a few days ago. He now wore an armored jacket like Shadow's over a pressure coil suit, the actual new addition. For the first time since Shadow had rescued him, Vio looked relaxed.
"What?"
"These are designed to adapt and fit perfectly," Vio told him, stepping out and adjusting the straps on his wrists. "The coils tighten and loosen with force impulses, molding to the body they're meant to fit. The technology is quite new, actually, and makes use of Gerudo nanogems to create the compression necessary—" He stopped. "Apologies. I don't need to lecture you, you may already know all of this."
"Nope," Shadow said. "You don't have to stop talking."
"We can move on. I haven't studied this enough to go on a proper rant."
With a shrug, Shadow complied. "Okay, then, it fits. How does it feel?"
Vio's unconscious smile grew, and he reached up to his shoulder to adjust the dial a little. "Amazing, actually. For the first time since becoming me, I don't feel like I'm going to fall apart."
"Good. Really. I'm glad." Shadow hopped off the table, the bottoms of his boots barely glowing for a moment as they absorbed the minimal impact.
He could feel his skin beginning to itch, so while Vio pulled his own boots on, Shadow grabbed the pendant around his neck. Force energy ran through his fingers and sparked over his skin. The doctors said that it stabilized his cellular structures and kept him from, you know, evaporating into smoke. All he knew was that if he went too long without letting the force run through him, he started to feel awful, even worse if he expended energy on the limited magic he could wield.
"So, what is that?" Vio asked, looking over as he finished tying off his laces.
Shadow pulled his hand away, cutting off the flow of force in a near panic. Then he laughed at himself. What was he doing, being afraid of Vio? Sweet, diabolical Vio? Sure, they had a way to go until Shadow really trusted him, but they traveled that road side-by-side.
"Nothing special," he said. "Hey, let's head out and drop those new explosives on-planet—I know of a few villages that would make good testing grounds."
"Or," Vio said as he stood up, "we could drop them in the ocean, cause a few waves. I bet that the explosions would be nice and colorful underwater."
Shadow brightened. "I like the way you think. I'll fly the Dragon if you'll read. That stuff about the Yonaill was really interesting."
"You do realize I'd do it anyway, don't you?"
"Thought I'd ask."
Wind
"It's been a week," Green said, frowning down at his spoon. "Still no Vio." He had been chewing on those words for a day or two, now. Vio's absence felt like a dark hole in the wall that they were all trying to ignore.
Blue set down his bottle of water, empty again from the sound of it. "Idiot probably did something to get himself killed."
"Don't say that!" Red slumped down against the wall. "Don't you think we'd know? We'd feel?"
"Maybe. But I think it's gone on long enough that we should move ahead." Green shoveled the rest of the bland rice into his mouth and pushed the bowl away. He smoothed the tube over his ear that fed air from the filter on his hip to his nose. He could finally speak in full sentences without losing his breath halfway through.
It wasn't that he wanted Vio to be dead, of course he didn't. Just… this constant uncertainty drove a plasma knife into his sternum. Had Blue, and then Red, felt this way about him? He would rather be happily surprised than hope and be crushed.
Blue stood up. "I have both screws."
"And I'm prepared," Red agreed after a second. "If you both think this is the way to go, I'll participate."
Green nodded at them both. He didn't really know who they all were, but he knew that he cared about them as if they were his blood siblings. He knew that they all had the same memories of being Link that he did, and cared just as much about Zelda. Once they got out of here, they could find some answers. That was all he needed.
"All right, then. Blue, if you'd do the honors." Green gestured, and Blue stepped up to jam both screws in the door, just enough that Green could use the passcard he'd swiped.
Earthquake
The stars out the window inches by as the massive ship hurtled through its orbit. The bright curve of the Plains far below lit up its portion of sky, white and green and blue. A colorful nebula reached its massive red and gold fingers out toward distant galaxies. From this angle, it looked like a Twili spider, perching on the steel-blue planet Domain. The watery world bulged out on both sides toward its two moons, the tide visible even from this distance.
Vio felt more than heard Shadow approach when his call ended. "Isn't it beautiful?" he said mildly when Shadow came up to lean on the windowsill with him.
"Domain? I guess. Have you been there?"
"Link did, a few years ago. Not for long. I remember that I… that he was awed at the scale of the floating cities, not to mention the underwater ones that withstand the strong currents from the tides. The engineering involved is fascinating." Vio shook his head to dislodge visions of blueprints and glanced over. "So what was that?"
A brief darkness passed over Shadow's face. "Vaati. Turns out, your, uh, other selves escaped."
Vio made sure his face reflected just a little of his bafflement and none of his sudden anxiety. "Call them my brothers, at least then I don't have to take responsibility for them. How is them escaping our problem?"
"Vaati made it our problem. He said to kill one if we had to."
"What?" Vio turned fully away from the window. "I thought he wanted us all alive."
Shadow shrugged. "Who knows what goes through that guy's head? Look, Vio. Are you with me?"
Vio looked at him, noticing the thin hope in Shadow's eyes again. It could be torn down any moment, and while Shadow would be upset, he almost expected Vio to turn on him now.
Plans and schemes whirled through Vio's head, both old ideas to get Shadow on his side, and new, panic-driven ways to not actually kill one of the others. He liked where some of them were going. This could be it.
Part of Vio reasoned that he could gain more trust and get more information if he went along with this before he betrayed Shadow. Part of him wondered if he wanted to betray him at all. All of him was in agreement.
"I'm with you."
Shadow smiled.
Waves
Blue took up the rear, watching their backs. The textured grate cut into his bare feet, but he didn't let that slow him down. The maintenance corridors were almost too quiet, for all that they took a roundabout route.
The soulless, sparkling void outside the windows they passed gave Blue the shivers. He knew that Link didn't mind interplanetary travel, but Blue thought that he might. He turned his eyes away from the thick glass and kept watching their surroundings.
Green kept them moving, choosing their direction and stopping them when guards moved past. Blue didn't know how Green knew when guards were nearby, but he didn't question it right now. He instead watched for things that Green might miss and monitored the others for concerning behavior. He'd seen that Red's fingertips wanted to turn gray with cold, though Red himself didn't seem to notice. Green didn't struggle for breath anymore, but the filter sounded awfully loud in some of the cramped spaces they found.
Though they'd checked, they hadn't yet found any sign of Vio. Green kept them aimed right for the area they knew Zelda had to be held in. They'd already traversed what felt like half the ship, and had only risked jumping one guard who'd been, very stupidly, alone. They'd taken his single blaster. Blue held onto it.
No lights or glow strips lined this walkway, making it very, very dark. Blue didn't know where they were headed or what lay beneath them. He did see a spot of light ahead, which must be the little implant on the back of Red's head. Once again, Blue mentally pledged to punch someone in the face for that.
Green held up a hand to stop them. The faint cyan glow of the air filter limned his form, lighting him up just enough to see what he did. He glanced back at them, then nodded and jumped off.
When Blue heard his feet land on something solid a second later, lighter than they should have, he jumped down, too, much louder. Red followed a moment later. It was pitch black down here, but only for a few moments.
As soon as all three of them stood on solid ground again, a dim light turned on. Two lights, actually, one on either side of the walkway they'd landed on. Each lit up a huge, glassy tube, foggy on their insides. Blue could barely make out faces behind the fog with the help of the lights. Familiar faces.
"The Maidens of Hylia," Red whispered.
"I think our to-do list just got longer," Green said, just as softly.
Blue swallowed and nodded. The six Maidens weren't just tradition-keepers, tasked with tending the temples all over the Hyrulean system, but trained warriors given special training to protect the princess. It was their inexplicable, quiet disappearance that pulled Link away from his father. It was their absence that allowed Zelda to be kidnapped.
And here they were, in the prison ship of Sorcerer Enterprises, frozen in sleep.
Two more lights flicked on, a few feet farther ahead, lighting two more of the Maidens. Blue's stomach knotted in anticipation, and sure enough…
Two more. All six. They were, at least, most likely alive in there.
Blue tapped his blaster with his thumb. It lit up with a low hum.
Another two lights turned on, showing the end of the long room, though these two lights pointed inward, spotlighting a platform and a large, black chair. In it…
Vio, and the shadow who'd kidnapped Link, wearing matching, messy uniforms. The shadow sat on the arm of the chair, far too cozy for Blue's taste.
"It's nice to see you." Vio's voice bounced off the glass tubes.
"Vio!" Red said immediately, taking a step forward. "You're alive!"
Blue reached out and grabbed the back of Red's plain shirt. "Wait. Something is wrong here."
Green took point, standing in front of both Red and Blue with a wide stance. "Vio. What is that doing there, and what are you doing?"
A flicker of annoyance crossed Vio's face. "Shadow is my friend, thank you very much."
"Vio did some thinking," Shadow said, fangs glittering in the light. "He's pretty smart. He figured out who his friends really are. You? You'd just hold him back."
Vio gave a casual little shrug that sent fire down Blue's throat. "It's true."
"You traitor, you—" Blue started with heat, but instinct cut him off when Green raised a hand again.
"Then we don't have a choice. Vio, I can't believe you." He held his hand back toward Blue, who hesitated just a moment before passing the charged blaster over.
Vio leaned forward, a dangerous gleam in his eye. "No choice? What are you going to do, Green? Kill me?"
"If I have to." Faster than Blue could follow, Green raised the blaster and shot.
The bright blue bolt shrieked for Vio's head. It lit up the world around it on its deadly course, but Vio didn't flinch.
Shadow raised his hand, and the bolt suddenly swerved. It hit the wall with a flash and a bang. Blue smelled burning plastic.
"That was very rude," Shadow said. He leaned backward, clearly enjoying this.
Vio nodded. "I agree. If you want to duel, Green, you need to follow the rules. They're there for a reason, you know." He stood up from the chair, and Blue noticed for the first time that Vio didn't squeeze his own arms, or hug himself, or cope in any of the ways he'd grown used to seeing. Maybe that patterned jumpsuit had something to do with it.
Tangible rage sloughed off of Green, and he stepped forward. "If you insist."
"I do." Vio descended the platform to Green's level and pushed his jacket aside to unholster a blaster of his own, small but new. He kept eye contact with Green as he charged it up, then held it at his side. "Red, would you count us off?"
"Me?!" Red's hand flew to his chest.
"That's cruel," Blue spat. "I'll do it, it'll be my pleasure. Green's going to murder you."
"It's more like taking out the trash." Green shifted his weight.
Vio's eyebrows rose. "I'm hurt. Or, I would be, if your opinions mattered. Go ahead, then, Blue. On zero. And Shadow? Don't interfere."
Behind him, Shadow laughed. "I won't. You're going to win, of course. This is hilarious."
Was it Blue's imagination, or did Vio's face soften at Shadow's words? Blue scowled. There was no way he could count that would give Green an advantage. No matter what he said, Vio could react just as fast.
"Please don't fight," Red begged. He moved back to stand closer to Blue. "Please. Can't we talk about it?"
Vio ignored him, but Green shook his head. "Sorry, Red. I don't think Vio's in a talking mood."
"Three," Blue interrupted, feeling a little nauseous. He willed his voice to not crack, whether it was with rage or hurt. At the count, Green and Vio set their stances. Red made a noise and grabbed Blue's arm.
"Two." Green's air filter picked up a little speed, whirring louder.
"One." Vio smiled a little as he stared unblinking at Green. Both of them tensed.
"Zero!"
Red ducked as three shots rang out through the small room. Blue leaned over him, not able to take his eyes off of the fight. He didn't hear any glass shatter, or any bolts hit metal, so all three must have hit.
Green collapsed as if in slow motion.
Red screamed, but Blue barely heard it. He ignored the danger to himself and ran to Green's side.
On the other side of the room, Vio cried out in pain, sinking to one knee, but he had Shadow, so Blue didn't even spare him a glare. Green was dying.
Oh, Hylia. Green was dying. He was still alive, for the moment, but he gasped, and his fingers hooked weakly into Blue's shirt. Red knelt next to him, too, taking Green's head into his lap as tears traced down his face. Blue could see the burned bolt hole right over Green's heart. His hands shook.
Shadow laughed, and Vio answered with a breathy chuckle of his own. They said something. Blue didn't listen.
They left.
They left. And Green was still dying.

Could you do number 1 and 2 with Jack Russell from Werewolf By Night? 🥹🐺✨
A/N - This is great! I loved writing this for Jack, thanks for requesting this!
Give Them Hell
Summary - You shook up Jack's chaotic life
Tumblr media
Warnings - Mostly fluff!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Amor, I’m about to head out!”
“Make sure you have everything in your bag before you go!”
Jack snorted from the tone you were using with him: Authoritative and yet nurturing.  He was grabbing one more jacket from the closer before waltzing back over to the bed in your shared room, seeing his spare clothes folded and on the side of the duffle bag that was already open and ready for him to look in.  He knew it was your handy work, seeing some of his toiletries packed away in small bags and his placing cubes that were already filled with other clothes he would need.  He paused and smiled, considering himself a lucky werewolf to have someone like you in his life to help him organize his own chaotic mess of a life.
Jack was not an organized person, he never was really and it never really was an issue.  Being a werewolf and monster hunter at the same time didn’t call for normalcy and an easy-flowing life.  In fact, it was more clustered at times and more of a mess, but Jack could live with it.  He had to, and thankfully he survived and was able to be assertive and in survival mode for as long as he could.
But that changed when you came along and literally shook up his world.
You both met on the job, being a fellow monster hunter with a decent reputation and a cocky attitude about what needed to be done and what needed to be eliminated.  You were a practical hunter, no-nonsense, and had things for a reason.  No wonder you two gravitated to each other so well since opposites attracted one another.  Even your best girlfriend saw it when you were describing Jack to her after meeting him for the first time.  You were ranting about his clustered organization and his naiveness, but you also admired his easygoing attitude and his positive view of life.  Your friend eyed you, a smirk on her lips.
“You’re gonna fall for that boy,” She warned you.  And you did
Now, a few years later and married, you shook his life up to the core.  He loved that you looked after him and adored him, so much so that you were getting him into better habits.  From the food he ate down to what he was using for his bedsheets, Jack could tell you wanted what was best for him.  You joked that he was utter chaos, but handsome utter chaos in the end.  Jack didn’t care, he still saw it as the sun and the stars rolled into one for loving someone as untidy and messy as he was.  You never saw any of that, you saw a good and tender heart in an unforgiving world of monsters.
The main thing you helped improve with Jack was his transformations and how to prepare for them.  Before you came along, Jack would wing it.  Maybe take one change of clothes for the morning after and a towel or two in case it was a bit messy (something he learned the hard way in the past).  So when he told you what he did, you looked at him in utter shock.
“No, absolutely not!  This will not happen, come on!” You huffed, lacing your fingers together and dragging him with you out of his apartment.
“Where are we going?” He asked in shock, seeing that fierce look in your eye as you looked back at him.
“We’re going to get your shit together, literally!”
You got him a duffle bag big enough for a set of clothes, travel-sized toiletries and drug store medicine, dry food and electrolyte powder for water, a new water bottle with a built-in filter, running shoes, and coffee packets to brew his coffee in the morning along with a coffee travel mug.  Jack was amazed at your shopping and handiwork as you assembled his bag in front of him, or organizing tricks kicking in and making things fit where they shouldn’t.  When you were done, the bag was filled to the brim with all he needed and more beyond that.  He felt his heart well, knowing fully well that you weren’t just doing this because you wanted to, but you were looking out for him and showing him you loved him.
So Jack did the one thing he could think to do: he swept you up in his arms and kissed you deeply.
Since then, you both would either work together on a job, or at least know what the other’s job was in case things went south.  You were building not just a relationship with one another but a partnership too, which Jack knew he needed all this time too.  Not that he didn’t mind working alone, he was used to that for years.  But it was safer for him to have another ally on his side or someone who would help him if he needed it.  You were just as independent, but you figured out quick that Jack had a protective side that would come out when you were in danger.  It was rare, but he wouldn’t play with your life since you were too important to him now.
You both were a match made in heaven, domestic monster hunters if you will.
Jack folded his bag and tucked it inside the bag, then nothing a small parcel that was against the side of the bag and he cocked his head at the sight.  It was routine now that he knew what to pack or not to pack, a great habit you taught him and he picked up right away. So for him to now see a parcel with your name on the top on a folded piece of paper, he was now intrigued.  It was your handwriting, and while you were cleaning the kitchen from your thread breakfast together, Jack took out the parcel from the bag gently and then opened the folded paper to see your writing inside.
“Jack-
I love you to the moon and back, and even beyond.  Be safe and come back to me in one piece.  Enjoy the treats, and make this world a better place.  It already is with you.
~Your love”
Jack’s eyes misted from the note, seeing the cursive in your writing and feeling the love seep out from the ink into his heart.  He poked his head into the parcel, a massive smile on his face at the sight of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
Jack knew he had been dealt with unlucky cards all his life, and he was sat peace with it since he knew life was not fair for those who would work the hardest.  But you were the one piece of his life that changed everything: you brought him light from the darkness, you brought peace from the chaos, and most importantly you brought him love when he didn’t feel it for himself.
Jack walked out of the bedroom and saw you placing the last dish on the drying rack.  He immediately stood behind you and wrapped you in his arms, peppering your neck with kisses and small love bites as you giggled and leaned into him.
“I take it you found my note,” You teased, though Jack grinned against your skin.
“I’m one lucky wolf to call you mine, Amor,” He hummed, squeezing you a bit tighter, “I love you, so so much.”
You turned in his arms and cupped his cheeks in your palms,  You saw the love in his bright eyes as you pressed your forehead against his and smiled.  He taught you how to be soft and kind to yourself, showing you to let your guard down and be more vulnerable when needed.
“I love you more,” You hummed to him, kissing him on the nose as you gave him a stern look, “Take care of those monsters and come back in one piece to me,”
“Always,” He vowed as you smirked.
“Give them hell,” You added, seeing his smirk right back at you.
And he did, knowing the love of his life would wait for him to return.
The End.

Top 5 beverages!
Turkish coffee, but as a pour over
A controversial opinion, I know, but hear me out: I find traditionally brewed Turkish coffee a little too strong and bitter for my tastes, but I absolutely love buying ground Turkish coffee (without cardamon, another controversial opinion, forgive me) from the Asian grocery store and making it into a pour over at home. The result is a much milder version that still retains the spicy flavors of the coffee, but with none of the bitterness, and it goes down very smoothly with a dash of milk. Plus, no coffee grounds at the bottom of the cup to deal with once you are done, since it’s all been filtered out!
Italian Hot Chocolate
Let me set the scene for you: it was an afternoon in late December, between Christmas and New Years. My traveling companion, an archaeologist, had enthusiastically dragged me away from the shopping district that I was quite happy to find myself in and set us out on a long trek to some obscure church so she could show me a mural that I “simply have to see”. We arrive at the old church and learn that the final entry of the day was 20 minutes ago. Deflated, cold, and hungry, we walked through the streets of Milan, heading back to the neighborhood our hotel was in to look for dinner. It was getting dark, and it started to rain. We turned a street corner and saw a dazzling sight: a beautiful cafe with a white storefront, lights glowing from its large windows illuminating the marble tables within. As we pushed in the heavy doors, we were greeted by the smell of hot chocolate, and the menu above the white marble counter confirmed our senses: this was a chocolate bar, offering a dozen different flavors of Italian hot chocolate. I ordered one with dark chocolate, hazelnut, and whipped cream. A few minutes later, it arrived on my table. It was heaven in a cup. A very small glass cup (only a third of the normal serving size typical here in America) in which one could see thick black-brown liquid chocolate, topped with rich whipped cream (a little over-whipped, on the buttery side, which is exactly how I like it), and crushed hazelnut drizzle. It was glorious. I bit into the whipped cream, sucked in the hot chocolate in one big slurp, felt the thick lava-like liquid roll down my throat, and relished in the warmth that spread as it passed through my chest. It was much more bitter than American hot chocolates, and richer in flavor, with a nutty almost caramel-like aftertaste. This was the first time in my life where I wished I could stick my tongue into a cup and lick the inside clean.
Hot Apple Cider with whipped cream and cinnamon
This one is a winter classic in Germany. I first had it in Berlin on a bright sunny day in a cafe attached to a beautiful cemetery that I’d scrolled through that morning. It was the first time I had whipped cream with apple cider, and it made the entire thing feel extremely indulgent and i think it helped bring out the natural sweet-sour taste of the apples, add in the cinnamon and you have liquid apple pie in a cup 🤤
Riesling
IT IS THE BEST WHITE WINE (although Retsina is a close second). And the brands that are usually available at my local store in the states suck 😭😭😭. A good Riesling should be slightly sour, slightly sweet (the bad ones are usually too sweet), and dry. Riesling is the perfect summer drink, good for picnics in the sun, or dinner out on the balcony, with seafood, arugula / rucola, and white asparagus (with ham and hollandaise sauce, of course)
Japanese-Style Whisky Highball
Ice, whisky, and soda water (and maybe a dash of lemon to change it up). It tastes fantastic. Perfect for every season. Easy to make at home, great to order in restaurants and bars. It’s especially great with yakiniku or any kind of barbecue / grilled meat dish. I also tried a Shochu version of this in a canned bottle from 7-11 in Japan.

Hot Take:
Food culture and laws in Europe are incredibly pretentious. Everything named for a place must be FROM that place, and every named recipe must be prepared the exact same way.I had carbonara at multiple restaurants while in Italy, and they all tasted the exact same. The only variation was when a family friend made it for us for dinner, which was cooked to his tastes and preferences, and was DELICIOUS.
Hell, this import crazy mentality applies not just to food, but to water. Filtered mineral water. You want water? They can bring you either lukewarm tapwater if you ask for it, or a fancy bottle of water from such and such place for a price. The idea of water having different "tastes" based on where it's from is ludicrous; like of course it does, but that's what you want to minimize! Water isn't supposed to TASTE, it's supposed to refresh, hydrate, and reset your palet when eating varying foods.
Parmesan doesn't need to come from Parma. Champagne doesn't need to be French. Black Forest ham can be prepared by a Canadian butcher. This idea of the "somewhereness" was invented by wealthy European socialites who wanted to flaunt their ability to travel when the common folk couldn't.
It is ludicrous to insist that a granular cheese aged and processed the same way and from the same livestock as parmegiano-reggiano, in Tuscany instead of Parma, is in any way a different or inferior product. Yes, grass in different areas has different nutrient ratios, and the water has different mineral inclusions, but up to a certain point, the human senses of taste and smell are not refined enough to tell the difference on a molecular inclusion level like the EU seems to think. It's no wonder people buy into wine-tasters being legit and not just placebo-trons when there is a sizable chunk of people that believe you can train your sensory system into an organic chemical spectrometer.
The United States has a litany of problems, but at the very least I can trust Giovanni's restaurant on The Hill in St. Louis to give me a menu longer than 5 items with food that tastes as good as it looks, and I don't have to constantly worry about where I'm going to get more cold water to keep my blood pressure from bottoming out. Seriously visiting Europe with EDS hypotension is a nightmare because I can never get enough fluid intake to feel properly hydrated.
Anyway if you ever find yourself in Rome, hit up Pizza in Trevi. Best Pizza you'll have on your entire trip, guaranteed. Plus if you need extra hydration like me, there's cold water bottle filling stations right outside at Trevi Fountain itself.

Tips and Guide: Saving Money while Traveling Europe
The country guides for each individual destination contain more detailed information on how to save costs, but here are some basic suggestions:
Picnic - There are numerous little stores on this continent where you can buy prepared sandwiches or the ingredients to build your own. Purchase some food, enjoy it outside while observing the city and its inhabitants. It's both more fun and less expensive to eat this way.
Eat inexpensively and locally - Don't like picnics? Eat at neighborhood Maoz, Wok to Walks, sandwich shops, pizza joints, and outdoor street sellers. You can sample the local food for a lot less money by avoiding restaurants and dining at a lot of the neighborhood "grab n' go" establishments.
Stay with a local - because it can be expensive to stay in hostels. Use Couchsurfing to connect with locals who will let you stay with them for free if you don't have any friends you can stay with. It's a terrific opportunity to cut costs on lodging and get to know a local who can offer guidance and insider knowledge.
Camp in a garden – Campspace, which allows you to pitch a tent in someone's lawn for free or a little price, is a really good camping service that is specific to Europe (around 10-20 EUR). The services and amenities that each garden owner provides are listed in their profiles. Additionally, if you have a tent, many nations, like Sweden, permit wild camping, which can save you a ton of money.
Take the bus – You can travel across the continent on the cheap with low-cost bus operators like Flixbus. Although it isn't glamorous, you really can't complain when tickets start at just 5 EUR!
Get a Rail Pass – I have saved hundreds of dollars thanks to Eurail Passes. They are a terrific deal if you are traveling over long distances and through numerous nations.
Take the free city tours – One of the best things about Europe is that all of the big cities offer free walking tours. They can be a terrific way to see the city's sights, learn about its past, and become oriented without having to spend any money. Only remember to give your guide a tip at the end!
Plan accordingly – Plan your route through Europe to prevent going backwards. Planning ahead is important because transportation can be very expensive (and time). Travel straight or in a loop.
Fly cheap – Try to reserve flights early if you know where you're going and a train won't do. Many of the budget airlines in Europe, such as Ryanair or Wizz, frequently offer round-trip rates for as little as 5 EUR.
Drink less – Beers costing five euros add up. Decide when to party and attend happy hours. You can find inexpensive beverages at hostel bars or at the grocery store. Your bank account will be completely wiped out if you party your way across the continent.
Get a city tourist card – Many regional tourism offices offer a tourism card that can be used at all of their restaurants, tours, and attractions. This card entitles you access free admission and significant discounts to all of the city's tours and attractions, as well as free local public transportation (a major benefit) and special offers at a select number of restaurants and retail centers. They make huge financial savings. Invest in one of these cards if you intend to do a lot of sightseeing.
Rideshare – If your schedule is open, you can pay a nominal charge through the ridesharing service BlaBlaCar to catch rides with locals between cities (or nations). Similar to Airbnb but for transportation. In addition to making significant financial savings by using this service in Switzerland, I also made interesting new friends and gained insight into the way of life there. It's completely safe and drivers are certified, albeit occasionally rides don't arrive (which is why you need to be flexible).
Bring a water bottle – Bring a reusable water bottle so you may save money and lessen your usage of plastic since tap water is safe to drink throughout much of Europe. I usually use LifeStraw bottles since they have built-in filters that guarantee your water is always pure and safe.

It’s butterfly season again here! You know what that means! Here are some of the ways YOU can help the monarch butterfly’s! (And also just pollinators in general)Also please make sure to do your own fact checking, I try my best.
Don't Use Pesticides in Your Own Garden! If you still want to protect some of your plants try spraying neem oil in a spray bottle with water around your garden. If you do get neem oil make sure its 100% natural, and remember nothing (including helpful pollinators) are going to touch this plant, if not the chemicals that are added can actually hurt you, especially if you are going to eat this plant! Another natural pesticide that actually helps pollinators is peppermint, thyme, and rosemary! But most of all plant wildflowers! These flowers have evolved to handle the climate and feed the native species EFFECTIVELY! It’s actually a problem people aren’t planting native species of flowers/plants.
PLANT NATIVE MILKWEED. Milkweed is essential to the monarch’s life cycle and when butterfly season is over or the milkweed gets too big, guess what? YOU CAN EAT IT. I left the link at the bottom if you want to check it out! There are also some “pollinator” or “bee/butterfly/hummingbird” seed packets you can buy that have a mix of all types of seeds. I know some people cant have outdoor plants/garden so see where places are asking for volunteers for “seed stomps” or just general help with pollinators.
Side note if you don’t know what a seed stomp is, you know when you see a really crunchy leaf and to go and stomp on it? It’s like that but with “seed balls” aka a glob of (dried) mud with seeds in it. You can also help make theses by just getting mud and mixing it with seeds (pollinator friendly or wildflower) and letting them dry in the sun for a day and just throwing them into the forest or any place they wont be messed with too much. Bonus points if you put a little water on them or even cover them a little bit with dirt!
Create a Monarch Way-Station! A Monarch way station is basically a butterfly’s all in one hotel with breakfast stop. Monarchs travel 2,500 miles on their long journey, thats roughly 20-30 miles each day! This is why its so important to have little rest and fuel up stations along the way. There are many different ways to make a way-station so make sure to check them out! You can also just half a orange and place it a bit up high so the ants don’t get it. You can also make or buy sugar water but please for the love of my sanity DON’T BUY THE ONE WITH RED DYE!!! There are many recipes online for how to make butterfly or humming bird sugar water.
Join the Fight to Stop Climate Change. Not only does this save quite literally everyone on earth but many animals. Many of the reasons climate change is happening is because people are deforesting large areas of forest. “But how do i help stop this?” I hear you ask, and ill tell you. It can be in the little things. Now don’t get me wrong, doing small things might not solve the ever growing climate crisis but it does help. For example a project i did involved me learning about deforestation for coffee. Before you stop drinking coffee and throw out all of those precious beans there are still ways to enjoy things AND help the environment! Shade grown coffee is coffee that is grown under the canopy of large forest and does not require deforestation and STILL TASTES THE SAME. Another way is reusable coffee filters. All the trash from the plastic rings on the tiny coffee cups, ends up in the ocean or a landfill. Also biodegradable things will be your new best friend. Also if you don’t already RECYCLE! DID YOU NOT LEARN ANYTHING FROM SCHOOL???? My favorite way to help is to actually use soon to be trash and make little trinkets out of them! You don’t have to go dumpster diving either, just save some things you would normally throw away and make stuff to satisfy the crow brain!
Use FSC Certified Wood. If any of my crafting and building folk out there use wood make sure its FSC certified! What FSC certified wood means is that it has been ethically produced and harvested from forest that are properly managed. It should have a label or a spray painted sign on it thats says “FSC certified”.
Learn More. Always make sure that when people talk about really anything you fact check it! This includes me! The best way to help out a cause is to learn about it and all the ways you can help! The things i listed here are just the surface of what you can do to help. There is also many routes to go like hands on or remote support.
Lastly make sure to spread the Word. Sadly most of the time in order to help the world or even these small little butterfly’s it takes money and space, not everyone has that. The best way to help if you cant donate to a “fighting the climate crisis” fundraiser or plant a huge garden filled with everything any animal will ever need, is to spread the word. You don’t have to stand at the side of the road or have a ted talk in the subway, you can use this very website or other social medias. Use your platform to spread the word and save some monarchs!

The individuality of canines is what makes them so special. Such as you or I, each has its own individuality, preferences, and nature. That said, there exists basic advice which applies to dogs overall, and you also need this information to look after your puppy effectively. This informative article details what you must know to begin.
Never ever hit your pet. You will find better ways to exercise a dog without having to resort to physical violence. The simplest way to train a pet dog would be to fortify beneficial behaviours with treats and focus. Adverse habits needs to be handled having a stern and disapproving speech as opposed to stunning your pet. Should your puppy or dog is constantly chewing your home furniture, put money into some chew-games. Spread them round the ground, specially across the hip and legs of your couch and conclusion-furniture. Be enthusiastic about your offers to play with the chewies together with your canine to motivate recurrent use. This will at some point discourage him from chomping your household furniture. Experiencing fresh and clean water accessible to your puppy constantly is necessary. Puppies grow to be dangerously dehydrated within days, so its essential to always have h2o all set. Canines will even appreciate drinking water which is thoroughly clean. If you realise it essential to drink filtered or bottled water due to top quality of water through your faucet, then make sure you give your pet dog with the same top quality h2o. If your puppy has ticks, and so they drop off his coat on to your flooring, vacuum them up. Even so, remember that ticks are very good get away from artists, so you should get rid of the travelling bag immediately once you are finished. To become in the safe side, tape the case completely shut before you take it out in your trash can can. Never give your pet milk! It's not essential for his entire body and that he doesn't get the suitable enzymes to break down it anyway. Giving your pet dog cow's milk products can result in constant looseness of the bowels and then leave him by having an distressed tummy, between other medical problems. Stick with simple outdated drinking water for the healthier and hydrated puppy. Should your dog has lengthy hair, be sure to take the time to toned the fur all around his ft .. In the event you allow your dog's locks to grow too long, they can get issues caught up with their hair. This may lead to accidents in between the patches in the toes and round the nails. Check and make sure your fenced in yard for locations your pet could get away from by means of prior to permitting him roam. Probably the most protected means of trying to keep your pet dog outdoors is over a future by using a powerful collar, but when you are comfy your fencing is capable of holding him, he'll take pleasure in that a lot more. Make absolutely certain there's no place for mistake! It is extremely common for things to obtain lodged within the pads of your respective canines paws. Check out them routinely to be sure that there is nothing inside. If you notice anything, use caution about taking it all out, or it may well come to be lodged even greater. It really is a best if you use tweezers for this particular. Check out and make certain your fenced in yard for locations your puppy could escape via before making him roam. Probably the most secure method of maintaining your pet exterior is on the future having a powerful collar, but should you be comfortable that your particular fencing can take him, he'll enjoy that even more. Make absolutely certain there's no space for fault! If you are intending on getting a new pup, anticipate investing in some instruction classes. These courses offer a fantastic chance of your puppy to interact socially with some other pet dogs and find out standard orders. These classes will give you your pet by using a wonderful base for upcoming instruction and may enable them to get yourself a excellent start in existence. Make sure that your dog is wearing some sort of id on the collar. So it will be more likely that your particular puppy locates its way house to you need to it turn out to be shed, ensemble it with a collar which has identification tag attached. The label ought to let folks know what your dog's brand is together with your contact details. If a tag doesn't think that the right selection for your pet, think about a microchip. When it comes to your puppy, you need to be conscious of the laws and regulations in the area. Search for variations in your local laws and regulations that govern dog management in the area. These sort of points typically happen as a result of few canines acting out, or preferred opinions in regards to a specific breed of dog. Stand up for the legal rights! As you now have many of these suggestions in mind, you are ready to make your dog's existence much better. It depends on one to use each and every tip individually, altering your dog's lifestyle bit by tad. The greater number of you do to your pet, the better he'll adore you in turn.

Just wrote this and I’m so sorry in advance. This actually turned out decently well for something I wrote so quickly. It’s set around season 4 before the first episode where Jess comes back so that’s just an idea of the setting! :)
It was dark, moonlight only glistening in through the grimy window by the doorway. When Jess managed to pick the lock, he grimaced at the sight. The apartment (if that’s what it could even be called in its condition) wasn’t much, to say the least. It was just about two rooms, each one small with the floors covered in random mattresses, sleeping bags, and blankets.
Most of the people who stayed never returned for more than a day from what he heard about this run-down building so when Jess stumbled upon it, he took quick advantage of the leftover water bottles, granola bars, whatever useful edible thing he could find.
As he searched through the rest of the empty space, his foot hit a box by a plastic chair that was propped up against the fridge. The cardboard box tipped over, a cluster of random items flooding out. Worn out baby toys and clothes, a rusted ring missing its diamond. An MP3 player. Jess squinted his eyes, trying to get a better look at it through the dim room. The chipped painting gave away somewhat of an idea on how old it was. Even the earbuds that were attached seemed pretty old, but it was still decently in shape.
Jess glanced around, making sure no one was near before he leaned down and picked it up. It was just the perfect weight to carry around. A bitter chuckle escapes his lips as an image of his ten year old-self begging his mother to consider buying one comes to mind.
He remember the reasoning like the back of his hand. Music was so similar to literature in the way, it could take Jess away from the places of the real world. From letting him focus on himself. He could think about someone else’s feelings, not his. Not how he felt when 5th grade bully Jack Clayton threw his personal edition of Oliver Twist in the trash can. Or when he discovered the notepad full of notes he wrote on his favorite authors as well as books was scribbled all over. Along with the addition of newer notes written, many along the lines of: Weirdo. Guess that brain is pretty useless after all. All you do is think about fake people. No wonder no one likes you.
Who would want to think about feelings on that? Jess remembered thinking at the time. It wasn’t just self-pity he felt settled in but frustration, vengeance, anger. At anyone real. At his mother who repeated countlessly, “I won’t have enough, buddy. You enjoy food more, right?”
Jess huffed through his nose as the memories continued filtering through. He shook his head, tossing the music player back on some mattress. The momentum must’ve been too much because, a split second later, it hit the ground with a clunk.
He turned around to walk out when notes of a song began to quietly play. He stopped cold in his tracks. The memory returned all too quickly, drowning him in. Jess was reminded of the one person he could bear to associate with school positively..
“You know, the whole reason studying exists is so you can make it through the tests. Those things that help your grades that’ll get you into college.” Her voice, dripping in optimism. Light, just like her smile as she looked at him brightly. He sat up, tilting his head at her. “I didn’t realize I already discovered the secret to time travel because this conversation sounds way too familiar.”
Rory laughed a bit, leaning towards him. “Well, I guess they don’t call me Doc Brown for nothing.” She looked at him, her lips quivering in a straight line to keep from smiling. It was intoxicating.. in the best way. She was. He leaned in, meeting her lips. Moments like these made his mind go hazy yet electric all the same. His hands found her waist, pulling her close. He felt her smile right before breaking away. Jess frowned, a puzzled look flashing across his face.
“Not so fast, mister. We’re still here to study.” She folded her arms across her chest, trying to keep her face as stern as possible.
It faltered a bit when he leaned in close enough for their foreheads to touch. His hands found hers, fingers intertwining. He kept his tone hushed, trickled with innocence. “I’m a good student, I promise.”
Her face flamed as she gave him a quick peck and pulled away with a small grin. Rory jumped up from the couch and stood a couple feet away. “Oh c’mon, that’s not fair!” Jess pouted, slumping in his spot. She paced back and forth in front of the couch for a few moments before facing Jess, tapping her pencil against her chin.
“Alright, I got an idea. If you are so against studying academics right now, then I have a compromise that will satisfy us both, I hope.”
Jess sat back up, an intrigued grin growing on his face. “Is that so, Gilmore?”
“Yup. Now stand up and come on over here.” She replied with a gesture to the general area of Luke’s apartment. Her eyes lingered around, searching for something. “Ah, there it is!”
Jess followed her line of sight as he stood with an immediate groan when he realized what she was referring to. Rory lugged over Luke’s boombox and set it on the coffee table. “Hey, I don’t wanna hear any of that. You got that, Nancy? This’ll be fun.”
He sighed with a defeated smile, taking her hand. She pulls out a cassette from her pocket, a crimson blush dancing across her cheeks. Jess stared in a mixture of shock yet admiration. “Had it all planned, didn’t you?”
“Would you look at that, Holmes cracked the case.” She placed the cassette tape into the player and closed it in. The song began blasting. Rory’s eyes widened as she whipped around to lower it. “I cannot believe I forgot to lower the volume! I knew there had to be something, of course there’s always something-”
Jess grabbed her by the waist and turned her around, planting a kiss on her lips. Her eyes flickered to his, shyly once they broke apart. Beautiful. He resisted the urge to kiss her again and cleared his throat. “So, I gotta warn you I’ve got two left feet. This may end in disaster.”
Her hands wrapped around his neck as his hands remained planted on her waist, still keeping her close. Her eyes gazed into his as the two slowly practiced a few steps. Her voice was soft, comforting. “You’re doing great, I haven’t lost any toes yet. That’s a good sign.”
“Hey, don’t count that out yet.”
She laughed, leaning into his shoulder.
The two continued swaying, not thinking about the rehearsal. Just the music guiding them. He pressed his hands to her cheeks. Her eyes flickered to his, an indescribable shade of blue, full of care. Of love. For him..
Her mouth met his and like every time, everything just disappeared. Just that song somewhere in the back of his mind, as an anchor to reality. To let him know she was his and he was hers.
“Who are you, kid?”
Jess blinked, the original setting returning as he realized he was sitting on some random mattress near the box, the MP3 player clutched in his hand. The song ended on its last lyrics. He immediately stood, a hostile reality hitting him like a ton of bricks. While a man was by the doorway. Not just a man, an officer. He took a step closer but Jess backed up.
“You don’t live here, do you?”
He remained silent, looking down at the ground. He let himself slip up. What an idiot, Jess repeated over and over again as the MP3 player fell from his hand, it hit the ground more forcefully than before. He might’ve flinched at the noise if his mind wasn’t already preoccupied. No ideas came to mind on what to do. None of them good anyway. The officer took a couple more steps in, leaving a space just large enough for Jess to squeeze past through if he bolted.
No, no. Don’t be an idiot, Jess. You already messed up once.
“You have anywhere to go? Any home? I don’t think this is your spot, son.” The officer spoke sympathetically, walking slowly towards Jess.
The doorway was completely free now.
Jess’ hands balled into fists as the horrible feeling of dèjà vu kicked in.
Leaving, running, abandoning. Yelling, flunking high school, the last look from her on that bus. It came back in flashes, scenes that were torn up in a book that he never wanted to re-read. He needed to just get to the next chapter, through each word, each next step. Maybe, he’ll find an ending that’ll make him smile again. Even a small grin will do.
That won’t be today.
So he ran.
Not looking back, ignoring the footsteps behind him, his heart beating erratically as he tried to find an exit out of the building.
The officer’s footsteps became quieter as did his yells, the farther Jess ran down and turning the halls. He eventually found one, his lungs burning he stumbled towards a tree. The pitch darkness masked him as he sat down against the trunk, trying to slow down his breathing to a normal pace.
Once his brain could function on common sense rather than survival, the pure fear trickled into him as he realized this place wouldn’t be good either. He’d need to leave. His throat clogged up, not feeling quite ready to make his way towards his next temporary place. It was always the same.
An endless cycle would occur that he wanted to believe got him somewhere (or eventually would) but it didn’t. It never did. The process just restarted, keeping him on the same track, replaying like a broken record. He hated it, like nothing else, but all the while, it didn’t feel worth fixing anymore. It worked, at the very least.
He looked back down at his backpack and unzipped the front packet, hoping to find something to eat. His mistake cost him the food and extra water from the apartment. There wasn’t a gas station nearby so the extra money tucked into his pocket wouldn’t do much. He continued, feeling around the pocket, looking for anything when he felt something else.
He pulled out a picture.
It was him with her. Smiling, holding each other, lovestruck like a disease. A whisper of that grin came back for a second. He couldn’t remember the last time he seemed so happy. He wondered if Rory was home--
Home.
The horrific image of Stars Hollow followed.
Stuffing the picture back in, Jess stood up and began preparing to head back for his car. That’s what he’s going to need. Stars Hollow wasn’t his home. It never was. And it never will be.

Understanding Giardiasis and Pancreatitis: Causes, Symptoms, and Prevention
Introduction
Health and wellness are critical to our everyday lives, but sometimes, despite our best efforts, we can fall victim to various ailments. Two such conditions that affect different parts of our digestive system are Giardiasis and Pancreatitis. Although they impact different organs and have distinct causes, symptoms, and treatments, understanding them is key to prevention and effective management.
What is Giardiasis ?
Giardiasis is an intestinal infection caused by the protozoan parasite Giardia lamblia (also known as Giardia intestinalis or Giardia duodenalis). This infection is one of the most common causes of waterborne disease and can affect both humans and animals.
Hurry up and register yourself at the CME/CPD accredited 14th World Gastroenterology, IBD & Hepatology Conference from December 17-19, 2024, in Dubai, UAE & Virtual. Register here: https://gastroenterology.universeconferences.com/registration/ Register here for virtual attendance: https://gastroenterology.universeconferences.com/virtual-registration/
Tumblr media
Symptoms
Symptoms of giardiasis typically appear 1 to 3 weeks after infection and may include:
Diarrhea
Gas
Greasy stools that tend to float
Stomach cramps or pain
Upset stomach or nausea
Dehydration
In some cases, the infection can cause weight loss and failure to absorb fat, lactose, vitamin A, and vitamin B12. However, some people may be asymptomatic and not show any symptoms despite being infected.
Transmission
Giardia is found in soil, food, or water that has been contaminated with feces from infected humans or animals. The most common mode of transmission is through consuming contaminated water, including:
Drinking untreated or inadequately treated water from lakes, rivers, springs, ponds, or streams.
Swallowing water while swimming or playing in contaminated recreational water (such as pools, hot tubs, lakes, rivers, etc.).
Eating uncooked food contaminated with Giardia.
Having contact with someone who is infected with Giardia, such as through diaper-changing or sexual practices.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Diagnosis of giardiasis is typically made by testing stool samples for the presence of Giardia parasites or antigens. This can involve multiple stool samples collected over several days.
Treatment for giardiasis often involves a course of prescription medications, such as:
Metronidazole
Tinidazole
Nitazoxanide
These medications are effective in eliminating the parasite from the body. In addition to medication, maintaining good hygiene and avoiding contaminated food and water are crucial to preventing reinfection.
Prevention
Preventing giardiasis involves several measures, including:
Drinking water from safe sources and using water filters when necessary.
Practicing good hygiene, such as regular handwashing with soap and water.
Washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating.
Avoiding swallowing water from lakes, rivers, or pools.
Avoiding close contact with infected individuals, especially in settings such as daycares.
By following these preventive measures, the risk of contracting giardiasis can be significantly reduced.
Avoiding Giardiasis
Giardiasis is primarily caused by ingesting the Giardia parasite, often through contaminated water or food. Here’s how you can minimize your risk:
Water Safety
Drink Treated Water: Always drink water from a safe, treated source. Use filtered or bottled water if you are unsure of the water quality.
Boil Water in High-Risk Areas: When traveling to areas with uncertain water quality, boil water for at least one minute before drinking.
Use Water Filters: If you’re camping or in a location without treated water, use a water filter that is certified to remove Giardia.
Food Safety
Wash Fruits and Vegetables: Thoroughly wash all fruits and vegetables before eating, even if they have a peel or rind.
Avoid Raw Food in High-Risk Areas: In areas with poor sanitation, avoid eating raw fruits and vegetables unless they can be peeled.
Personal Hygiene
Handwashing: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the bathroom, changing diapers, and before eating or preparing food.
Safe Practices in Childcare Settings: Ensure proper hygiene practices in childcare settings, such as regular handwashing and disinfecting surfaces.
Recreational Water Safety
Avoid Swallowing Water: Do not swallow water while swimming in pools, lakes, rivers, or hot tubs.
Use Swim Diapers: For infants and toddlers, use swim diapers to prevent contamination of pool water.

What is Pancreatitis?
Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas, a gland located behind the stomach that plays a crucial role in digestion and blood sugar regulation. Pancreatitis can be acute or chronic, each with different causes, symptoms, and treatment approaches.
Types of Pancreatitis
Acute Pancreatitis
Description: Sudden inflammation that lasts for a short period.
Symptoms:
Severe abdominal pain that may radiate to the back
Nausea and vomiting
Fever
Rapid pulse
Swollen and tender abdomen
Chronic Pancreatitis
Description: Long-lasting inflammation that can lead to permanent damage.
Symptoms:
Persistent abdominal pain
Unintentional weight loss
Oily, smelly stools (steatorrhea) due to malabsorption of fats
Diabetes may develop as the pancreas becomes less able to produce insulin
Causes
Gallstones: Can block the pancreatic duct, leading to acute pancreatitis.
Alcohol Abuse: Chronic consumption is a common cause of chronic pancreatitis.
Medications: Certain drugs can induce pancreatitis.
High Triglyceride Levels: Hypertriglyceridemia can lead to inflammation.
Genetic Factors: Inherited conditions such as cystic fibrosis.
Infections: Viral infections like mumps can cause pancreatitis.
Autoimmune Conditions: The body’s immune system attacks the pancreas.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis typically involves a combination of:
Medical History and Physical Examination: To identify symptoms and risk factors.
Blood Tests: To check levels of pancreatic enzymes (amylase and lipase).
Imaging Tests: Such as abdominal ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI to visualize the pancreas and surrounding structures.
Stool Tests: In chronic cases, to check for fat malabsorption.
Treatment
Acute Pancreatitis
Hospitalization: Most cases require hospitalization.
Fasting: Giving the pancreas a break by not eating for a few days.
IV Fluids: To maintain hydration.
Pain Relief: Medications to manage pain.
Treating Underlying Causes: For example, removing gallstones.
Chronic Pancreatitis
Pain Management: Using medications and sometimes nerve blocks.
Dietary Changes: Low-fat diet and pancreatic enzyme supplements to aid digestion.
Treatment of Diabetes: If it develops as a complication.
Surgery: In severe cases, to remove part of the pancreas or drain fluid collections.
Prevention
Limit Alcohol Consumption: To reduce the risk of chronic pancreatitis.
Healthy Diet: Low in fat and high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Regular Exercise: To maintain healthy triglyceride levels.
Avoid Smoking: As it increases the risk of pancreatitis.
By managing risk factors and leading a healthy lifestyle, the likelihood of developing pancreatitis can be minimized. If you suspect pancreatitis, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly to prevent complications.
Avoiding Pancreatitis
Pancreatitis can be acute or chronic and is influenced by lifestyle factors, medications, and underlying health conditions. Here are steps to reduce your risk:
Alcohol Consumption
Limit Alcohol Intake: Excessive alcohol consumption is a major risk factor for pancreatitis. Limiting or avoiding alcohol can significantly reduce your risk.
Seek Help for Alcohol Abuse: If you struggle with alcohol use, seek professional help to manage and reduce consumption.
Dietary Habits
Healthy Diet: Follow a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Avoid high-fat and highly processed foods.
Maintain Healthy Weight: Obesity increases the risk of gallstones and, subsequently, pancreatitis. Maintain a healthy weight through diet and exercise.
Medication and Health Monitoring
Monitor Triglyceride Levels: High triglycerides can cause pancreatitis. Regularly monitor your lipid levels and manage them through diet, exercise, and medications if necessary.
Review Medications: Some medications can cause pancreatitis. Discuss with your doctor about the potential side effects of your medications.
Avoid Smoking
Quit Smoking: Smoking increases the risk of pancreatitis. If you smoke, seek resources and support to quit.
Managing Underlying Health Conditions
Treat Gallstones: If you have gallstones or a history of gallbladder issues, discuss treatment options with your healthcare provider.
Control Diabetes: Properly manage diabetes as it can impact pancreatic health.
General Health Practices

How to Choose the Perfect Dog Water Bottle for Your Dog
Tumblr media
Choosing the right water bottle for your dog is important for their health and well-being, especially during outdoor activities or travel. Dogs, like humans, require proper hydration, and a high-quality water bottle can help you keep your dog hydrated while on the go.
In this blog post, we’ll discuss the various types of dog water bottles on the market, what factors to consider when making a purchase, and which are the best options available. Whether you’re going on a hike, a walk, or a road trip with your dog, we’ll help you find the ideal water bottle to keep him hydrated and happy.
Types of Dog Water Bottles
When it comes to finding the best dog water bottle for your dog, there are several options. Each type has different features and benefits, so before making a decision, you should consider your dog’s needs as well as your lifestyle. Here are some of the most common types of dog water bottles:
1. Portable Water Bottles
These are made for on-the-go use. They usually have a bottle with a built-in water dispenser attached to the top. You can fill the bottle with water and carry it with you; when your dog needs a drink, simply open the dispenser and allow him to drink from it.
2. Travel Water Bottles
These dog water bottles are designed to be portable and comfortable. They typically consist of a leak-proof bottle and a built-in bowl or dispenser for your dog to drink from. They come in a variety of sizes to fit different dog breeds and are perfect for walks, hikes, car rides, and any other activity where your dog needs to stay hydrated.
3. Collapsible Water Bottles
These space-saving water bottles collapse to a small size, making them perfect for transport or storage. They typically expand when filled with water and include a foldable bowl or built-in dispenser. This option is best for dog owners who prefer portability and minimizing their carrying load.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Dog Water Bottle
When choosing a dog water bottle, several factors should be considered to ensure it meets your dog’s requirements. Here are some key factors to consider:
1. Portability
If you want to use the water bottle while travelling, hiking, or participating in other outdoor activities with your dog, portability is essential. Look for lightweight, compact designs that are easy to carry.
2. Capacity
Consider the size of your dog and how much water they typically consume. Choose a water bottle with the right capacity to ensure your dog stays hydrated without running out of water.
3. Material
Water bottles come in various materials, including plastic, stainless steel, and silicone. Consider the durability, safety, and ease of cleaning of each material option. Stainless steel bottles are durable and easy to clean, while silicone bottles are collapsible for easy storage.
4. Budget
Set a budget for your dog’s water bottle and compare options within that price range. While price should not be the only consideration, it is essential to find a bottle that provides good value for your money.
5. Additional Features
Consider any additional features that may enhance the usability of the water bottle, such as built-in water filters, collapsible bowls, and carrying straps to keep water cool.
By considering these factors, you can choose a dog water bottle that meets your dog’s hydration needs and suits your lifestyle, whether you’re on the go or enjoying outdoor adventures together.
