Satan as the Fallen Angel
Tumblr media
Painted by Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830) in red, white, and black chalk, this creation of phenomenal artistic mastery is a part of a larger group of art pieces. The full collection consists of six different paintings depicting scenes and characters from Milton's Paradise Lost. One is currently at the Royal Academy of Arts, one at Louvre, one in Private Collection, and two are lost.
Satan in this depiction stands in his full humanised glory - imagery typical of the late 18th century Romanticism when the fallen angel lost his beastly, animalistic appearance in art. His features here remind one more of David or Apollo Belvedere in his majestic, heavenly beauty caught right before the fall.

Please tell me more about Vienna
Are you having enough time and courage to see the city?
BEAUTIFUL buildings, like, the architecture??? Incredible
Best Kaiserschmarrn in Cafe Central as the pieces were HUGE and it was the first time in my life I did not dislike raisins. The waiters and waitresses there are amazing by the way
Nearly got run over by a car (but that was my fault, I was laying on the road)
Since I had time on Friday (night train my beloved), I went to Castle Belvedere and they have an art collection there that nearly took my feet out from under me. ALSO beautiful view.
Normal basic coffee directly translates to "elongated coffee" which is just hilarious to me.
Grocery Shopping rules are different than where I live, which was a thing that confused me a lot.
I did NOT want to leave but that might also just be because *gestures * everyone of the team, hugs, and [REDACTED]

The Crown Jewel Edition: Queen Consort Ana
From State affairs to private soirées; this is an inside look into Queen Ana's favorite pieces within the Lunarian Royal Collection.
The Fleur-de-lys Tiara (Above)
This particular piece was featured at many a State Banquet and in several of Her Majesty's official portraits. Originally crafted in Pierreland by Maison de Lumeniere, the tiara was commissioned by Crown Prince Jean Charles Valois in 1874 to commemorate diplomatic relations with Lunaria. It had been worn by Queen Consort Katrina and her daughters before falling out of favor in the early 1900s, when kokoshniks became the trend for the Royal Family. Queen Ana first brought it out of obscurity in the 1970s while attending a State Banquet in Rivenia as a part of her Marriage Tour.
Tumblr media
The Ely Meander Tiara
Gifted to Queen Clarisse in the late 1950s by the 10th Duke of Ely, this tiara was personal gift to Ana when her engagement to then-Crown Prince Vincent was announced. She most notably wore the piece during both her husband's Silver and Golden Jubilees. Her Majesty gifted the tiara to her only daughter – and now the Queen of Windsor – Ashli, who wears it frequently for official portraits.
Tumblr media
Queen Ana's Engagement Ring
Designed personally by then-Crown Prince Vincent using a large, 12-carat aquamarine surrounded by thirty-six diamonds on a split-shank design, Queen Ana's engagement ring was a stunning piece that many ladies in Lunaria were jealous of. The ring was returned to the Royal Vault upon her death twenty years ago, where it will remain alongside other Royal engagement rings.
Tumblr media
The Brindleton Sapphire Kokoshnik Tiara
This piece was bought during a private auction of the Brindleton Empire's Royal tiaras. The auction was rumored to have occurred because of Emperor Alaric's overspending of the National Treasury. Although the rumors were never confirmed, several high profile pieces from the Imperial Family's collection were sold to other families around the world, shaming Emperor Alaric, whom also sold several of his wife, Empress Amira's, personal jewelry inherited from her family. The purchase of the kokoshnik and other pieces apparently soured his relationship with King Vincent and Queen Ana in the coming years.
Adding insult to injury, Her Majesty wore the kokoshnik to a banquet celebrating Brindleton's surrender to the combined military forces of Windsor and Lunaria during Windsor's War for Independence. The Brindleton Empire has remained a military and political rival of Lunaria ever since.
Tumblr media
The Belvedere Palm-Heart Tiara
This piece was a gift to Queen Consort Lilith–then the Duchess of Belvedere–in 1793 as a wedding gift from the province her husband ruled over. It features nine emeralds sourced from the area and was designed to look like the palm-heart flowers native to the land.
Tumblr media
The Honeysuckle Loop Tiara
A diamond and platinum piece which originally belonged to the Brindleton Imperial Family like the Sapphire Kokoshnik listed above. Her Majesty often wore the tiara for foreign formal events.
Tumblr media
Queen Katrina's Pearl Wedding Earrings
Originally worn by Queen Consort Katrina in 1841 on her wedding to then-Crown Prince Edward (soon-to-be known as the Mad King Edward IV), these earrings were originally part of a lovely parure. The necklace, bracelet, and tiara were unfortunately lost in a fire at Windenburg Palace in the early 1920s.
Tumblr media
Queen Ana's Emerald Laurel Earrings
These earrings were bought by the Queen before she married into the Royal Family. They were designed by court jeweler Simtier from their Mythic collection and were purchased privately by Her Majesty for §30,000. They remain within the Quinn family's private collection and are being kept by King Arden currently.
Tumblr media
Queen Ana's Birthday Earrings
A gift to the Queen Consort from her three children, these earrings were her most beloved pieces of jewelry. The earrings are another Simtier piece, personally designed for her, and were passed down to her eldest son's wife after her death.
The earrings were most recently worn by Princess Annaliese, who wore them for her eighteenth birthday celebration.
Tumblr media
The Piraeus Pearl Set
This pearl necklace and earrings set are a Harold family heirloom. Upon her father's death she was able to inherit a few key pieces after his Earldom was dissolved back into the Crown. Her Majesty only wore the set for intimate private events.
Tumblr media
Bordeauxian Pearl Wedding Necklace
This necklace is one of the oldest pieces within the Royal Collection, dating back almost six hundred years, and is a wedding gift from King Francois of Bordeaux to Queen Consort Marylene.
Tumblr media
The Celestri Diamond Alliance Necklace
This necklace, which consists of millions of simoleons worth of Celestri Diamonds, was once one of the Celestre Imperial Family's prized jewelry pieces.
The necklace was given over as a part of peace negotiations twenty years after Lunaria split from the Empire of Celestre. The Emperor at the time, Nikolas II, was the half-brother of the first King of Lunaria, Rhysander I, and regretted the War of Secession that occurred between the two nations after a personal dispute between the two.
Queen Ana wore the necklace most famously during the funeral of her in-laws, the former King Richter and Queen Clarisse, but was often depicted wearing it during official portraits. The necklace has also been continuously worn during official visits to Celestre.

restoration of historic stone-built monuments in são paulo celebrates brazil's heritage
Tumblr media
Kruchin Arquitetura undertakes a thoughtful restoration of historical landmarks in São Paulo, breathing new life into the Rancho da Maioridade and Padrão Lorena. Situated near the ancient Caminhos do Mar, a historic route linking the coast to the Brazilian plateau, the monuments now serve as a belvedere and café, offering essential stops for explorers of the fog-laden mountainous region. Originally crafted to commemorate Brazil’s independence centenary in 1922, these structures form part of a larger collection of eight artworks.
The restoration by Kruchin Arquitetura preserves and revitalizes the historical structures, ensuring they continue to resonate with contemporary design and their surroundings. Conceived by Victor Dubugras, the monuments showcase the artistic brilliance of José Wasth Rodrigues’ panels, emphasizing their invaluable contributions to Brazilian architecture. Intricately nestled within the lush Atlantic Forest, the buildings strategically unfold into ocean vistas, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding landscape. Beyond visual aesthetics, the project achieves a symbiotic relationship with nature through carefully chosen materials and spatial design. Stone, weather-resistant and enduring, not only enhances structural longevity but also harmonizes with the environment.

Emilie Flöge was only a teenager when she met the painter Gustav Klimt, but their friendship soon evolved into a complex and loving relationship that lasted the rest of their lives. Alfred Weidinger, an acclaimed expert on Klimt and his contemporaries, has compiled an exhaustive collection of photographs relating to the artist and his designer muse. While Klimt took many of these shots, other photographers include Carl Schuster, Victor von Spitzer, Hugo Henneberg, Pauline Kruger Hamilton, Anton Josef Trcka (Antios), and unknown individuals who had access to the couple’s private lives. Presented chronologically, they offer insight into the creatively charged world that Klimt and Flöge inhabited—a world they influenced with their enormous talent and passions.

Granodiorite Statue of Ramesses II The king 𓇓𓏏𓈖 “nsw” is depicted in all his majesty. He wears the khepresh crown 𓆣𓂋𓈙𓋙 “ḫprš” and holds the heka sceptre 𓋾𓏘𓄿 “ḥq3” against his chest. His transparent pleated ceremonial dress reveals his muscled body 𓄡𓏏𓏤 “ẖ.t”. Under his sandals 𓍿𓃀𓏏𓋸𓋸 “tjbw.ty” he tramples the Nine Bows 𓌔𓏏𓐂 “psḏ.t”, symbols of the enemies 𓐍𓆑𓏏𓏭𓀏 “ḫfty” of Egypt. On the sides of the throne 𓊨𓏏𓉗 “3s.t” is carved the sema-tawy 𓋍, the knotted heraldic plants of Upper and Lower Egypt representing the union of the Two Lands 𓇾𓇾 “t3wy”. Dynastic continuity is expressed by the figures of his wife Nefertari (𓏏𓅐𓄤𓇋𓏏𓂋𓏭𓈘𓏏) “nfr-tı͗-rı͗-mrı͗.t-mwt” ‘Beautiful Companion, Beloved of Mut’ and his son Amunherkhepeshef on either side of his legs. The long reign of Ramesses lI (𓇳𓏤𓄟𓋴𓇓) “rˁ-msi-sw” ‘Him, Born of Ra’ probably witnessed a stylistic evolution of the royal portrait. The statue 𓂙𓏏𓏭𓀾 “ḫnty” probably belongs to the beginning of the reign of Ramesses I. Finally finished a fic based off of one of @venomficprompts's many, many prompts! It's technically a follow up to an earlier fic, but I don't think it's necessary to read the first (though it'd be cool if you did).
Sharing Songs T, Gen, 1.9k words Eddie Brock & Venom Symbiote
They do end up stopping by the pet store on the way home, but only because Eddie is cat sitting while Anne and Dan are on vacation and he needs to get more kibble. Venom doesn’t look at any of the cat furniture, and Eddie doesn’t comment on the faint urge to go down the aisle where the scratching posts are.
Are we not going to feed Mr Belvedere again? Venom asks as they turn towards their apartment instead of Anne’s townhome.
“Nah, not til tomorrow.”
Should we get a cat?
“Huh? Why?” Eddie wishes for a moment that they were at home where he could send an incredulous look directly at Venom. “You want a scratching post that badly?”
No! I will eat the couch! They poke his flank from within hard enough to make him stumble.
“Sorry, sorry,” Eddie soothes. “Why do you want a cat then?”
I like the texture, Venom says, ruffling against his nerves and deadening the result of their vicious poke.
“Yeah, Mr B is really soft.”
That too, but the sounds he makes feel very nice. Like this. Briefly, Venom makes a buzzing rumble against Eddie’s abdomen. It’s like an internal version of a cat’s purr, and Eddie remembers how Venom’s story-calling felt against him an hour or so ago.
“You still want to listen to some music when we get home?” He asks as he turns the corner and heads into their building.
Of course. Venom’s voice is eager and the phantom feeling of their grin curls into being over Eddie’s face.
“Alright, any preferences?”
“No,” Venom materializes over his shoulder and takes the bag of cat food from him as soon as they get inside the apartment. They sit the kibble directly in front of the door so that Eddie would be unable to forget it when he leaves tomorrow. “Pick something you like.”
“That’s a problem.” Eddie starts flipping through his modest vinyl collection. All that remains are his absolute favorites; the rest had been sold shortly before his run in with Venom. “I like them all.”
“Then pick the best one.” They reach forward with a tendril and Eddie cups it in his hand. It’s not that Venom won’t be careful, but they have a hard time judging their strength against objects they’ve never handled before.
“So impatient,” Eddie grouses as he flips through his singles with his unoccupied hand until he comes upon one near the back. “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. A song that is embedded into the cultural consciousness of most of the English speaking world and notable for its multiple, unique sections. Perfect for introducing an alien to a range of music.
Venom is unexpectedly quiet as Eddie sets the record onto the platter. He can feel their attention, all their focus on the what and the how of his actions.
“If you wanna do this while I’m asleep, just be really, really careful,” Eddie cautions as he settles the player’s arm into place and starts the platter spinning. “Like with Anne’s glassware.”
“Of course,” They mutter, lightly offended. “But why–”
Venom cuts themself off as Freddie Mercury’s duplicated vocals shine out of the speakers.
At first Eddie is too focused on his symbiote’s reaction. Will they like it? Will the music strike that terrible sweet spot and claw at the bond between them? Or, perhaps worst of all, will Eddie’s music not mean anything, just a pale imitation of Venom’s own heart-deep story-calling?
Stop worrying, they chide in Eddie’s auditory cortex. Just let me feel what it means to you.
Easy for you to say, he thinks back. But then the introduction fades into piano, Freddie Mercury leads in softly, and Eddie remembers road trips.
He doesn’t remember the first time he heard “Bohemian Rhapsody,” doesn’t remember when he learned the lyrics well enough to sing along, but Eddie does remember belting it out at the top of his lungs along with his college friends as they rolled down the interstate. The four of them had been young and invincible, ready to right the wrongs of the world with their writing.
At the time, the content of the song hadn’t mattered, just the build and the power of the guitar, the companionship of his friends, and the joy of people singing together. He recalls the wide grins and laughter they’d shared as the song wound down and the next song on the cassette started playing. It had been a beautiful time in his life.
Eddie's mind drifts to Venom. They're half caught in his memories and half webbed through his skin and he can feel them shift within both. For a moment he tastes the bright sun and chilly breeze of his youth. A wide grin spreads across his face. His heartbeat picks up. Venom is with him, as if they always had been, hanging their head out of the driver’s side window like an enthusiastic dog. Eddie’s college friends keep speaking, conversation gone indistinct with time.
Eventually, six minutes or so later, Bohemian Rhapsody winds down. They’re laying on the floor in front of the speakers. Normally it would be miserable, but Venom is out and padding Eddie’s back like they never do when he tries to do the yoga Mrs C has recently decided he should do.
Because yoga is boring. We are already flexible enough.
“Yeah,” Eddie grunts as he flexes himself into a sitting position, “because you’re fucking around in my joints.”
If I did not fuck around in your joints you would have arthritis, Venom points out, primly.
“I didn’t say I don’t appreciate it, just Mrs C is trying to help, y’know?”
Whatever, do you have more music like that?
Eddie laughs, short and breathy, “There’s not anything else like Bohemian Rhapsody.” But he stands up and ambles back to his record collection. It’s true that Queen’s ballad is unique, but it’s not the only song Eddie has associated strong memories with.
They spend the rest of the night listening to Eddie’s albums, reliving some of the best times of his life and some of the worst. But even the bad memories were made bittersweet with Venom alongside him. They back him up, assuring him without words that he is too good for the boy who broke his heart in highschool and that even if he and Anne’s planned wedding song stings, it’s still a good song.
"Does the YouTube have music?" Venom is small and cradled in the crook of Eddie’s left elbow with a tendril reaching towards his pocket and the phone inside.
"Yes, the YouTube does have music," Eddie confirms fondly.
"Show me?" Venom’s tendrils have slipped his phone out and, as Eddie settles into bed, they shove it in his face.
By the time he's navigated to the music section of the app, Eddie is half asleep. Venom engulfs his phone–so the light and sound won't keep him up–along with the hand holding it–so they can use his fingers to navigate the touchscreen.
"Plug it in," Eddie tells them muzzilly as he falls asleep completely.
That night's sleep is the best that Eddie’s gotten in a long time, which is impressive because Venom had taken to maintaining his rest like it was their job. The whole night is warm and soft and flowing. Eddie doesn’t remember if he dreams, though that isn’t unusual, but he’s well rested when he wakes.
Eddie’s hand is still around his phone and embedded in his symbiote, who is in turn clutched to his chest. He feels Venom flowing across his knuckles in intricate patterns and textures.
“You have a good night?” Eddie’s in awe that the sentence doesn’t even come out a little sleep garbled.
YesEddie. TheYoutubehas. So Much Music. Venom’s mental voice staggers stiltedly into Eddie’s perception.
“What?” The volume down button is easy to find even when he can’t see it and Eddie wastes no time holding it down until Venom stops squirming around his fingers.
I have been listening to The Beatles’s Love, Eddie. A tiny face forms on the blob encasing Eddie’s hand, eyes squinting contently and little zipper teeth lined neatly into a smile. It is eighty-six minutes long, Eddie. It sounds like that brownie you had in college felt.
“You got high off of The Beatles?”
There's a beat of silence while Venom collects their thoughts. "Yes."
“Huh.” A thought occurs to Eddie at that moment as he considers what his symbiote is telling him alongside what happened the night before. Mr Belvedere’s breakfast would definitely be late, but… “Do you think we could get high off of The Beatles?”
“Oh, yes, Eddie.”Venom doesn’t hesitate. “We very much could.”
“Awesome.” Eddie wriggles around on his bed until he’s face down, pillow over his head, and his forehead on top of his crossed forearms so his nose isn’t smushed into his mattress. Symbiote mass builds up on the back of Eddie’s head, spreading like an ooze over his scalp, ears, and jaw. When the secondary plasma on his head joins Venom’s primary volume still on his hand and around his phone, they turn the sound back up and start the album over.
The album starts off familiar, if a little weird because Venom is transmitting the audio into the bones of Eddie’s skull as well as his ears, but there’s enough difference to make Eddie wonder. In lieu of an explanation Venom dumps the first paragraph of a Wikipedia page into his brain–apparently it’s a soundtrack to a Cirque-du-Soliel show–and tugs Eddie away from his interpretation of the music and into theirs.
There were words being sung, but to a symbiote very few had any meaning. Just love, Love. The back tone builds subtly and the vocal melody drones and their whole being jangles into rhythm over discord. They are a heartbeat, red and rushing, steady. Fighting claw in meat, tooth in bone. And then drawn out into quiet space and strings.
Eddie knows the strings. The melody and refrain of the song soothe with familiarity. It’s sad, cleaning, joining. He/she/they aren’t alone. Venom clings and wraps and covers him away. More rhythm, a different pulse, drawing together, bouncing across space. A sea of stars seen in bursts and jolts. Tasted. Heard. Static, a building tone, longing.
Together, they are together. They are holding each other. Known.
And they soar. Imagery pulls from both of them. Eddie sees layers of pale clouds scudding in parallax across blue-green-yellow-sweet skies. People dance, rich and savory. They see, they see, they see, they taste-feel-know-learn. Their/his world is slow and easy and relaxed and together, always together.
Instruments gain smell, gain taste, gain texture. Sharp floral percussion, tangy electric guitar, smooth strings. A cat flies through the sky on fur-feathered wings. A bird digs with broad shovel-claws. Horses swim in cresting waves.
Sound plucks across them. Bouncing, rolling, bounding. Stroking, pulling, soothing. Gripping, dragging, grounding. They feel it together, taste it together, see it together, sing it together. Together.
Eighty-six minutes later, Eddie rolls over, off of the bed and onto the floor.
“Wow.”
Yes.
“Yeah.” What would another album sound like from Venom’s perspective? Pink Floyd maybe?
We still have to feed Mr. Belvedere.
Eddie curses, throws some jeans on, and trips over the bag of cat kibble on the way out of the apartment.

Apollo
1 artist unknown, Roman copy (c120CE) of a Greek bronze after Leochares (c350BCE) marble 224cm
2 Marcantonio Raimondi (1470/82-1534) Italian The Apollo Belvedere from the Vatican his left hand resting on the tree trunk around which coils a python (c1510–27) engraving
3 Albrecht Durer (1471-1528) German Adam and Eve (1507) oil on panel, each 209x81cm
A    metmuseum.org    The Apollo Belvedere was discovered near Rome in the late fifteenth century. Possibly a second-century marble copy of a bronze original by the Greek sculptor Leochares, the statue was immediately appreciated as a masterpiece and showered with praise. Probably once in the private collection of Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere (later Pope Julius II, r. 1503–13), it was moved to the Vatican in 1509 and placed, in 1511, in the Cortile del Belvedere, from which it derives its name. Raimondi's print became an important vehicle through which knowledge of the statue was transmitted far beyond the Vatican. He is famous for his many engravings after the designs of Raphael, including images such as the Judgment of Paris (19.74.1), scenes that, like the Apollo, illustrate Renaissance interest in classical antiquity and mythology. Here, Raimondi's mastery for replicating the effects of light on marble produces a convincing impression of the statue's form. Many artists incorporated the Apollo's much-lauded pose into their own work. Albrecht Dürer reverses the position of the figure's limbs and Apollo becomes Adam, reaching for the fruited branch offered by Eve in the 1504 engraving . A similar figure of Apollo, whose outstretched arm grasps—too late—a fleeing nymph, appears in the 1625 marble group Apollo and Daphne by the Roman Baroque sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598–1680).
B   Johann Winckelmann (1717-68) Germany     Of all the works of antiquity that have escaped destruction, the statue of Apollo represents the highest ideal of art. (1755)

THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY
based on: The White Crane Institute's 'Gay Wisdom', Gay Birthdays, Gay For Today, Famous GLBT, glbt-Gay Encylopedia, Today in Gay History, Wikipedia, and more … December 9
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1608 – John Milton, English poet, born (d.1674); No one can say for sure whether Milton was Gay, but the author of Paradise Lost was known to his Cambridge classmates as "the lady of Christ's" and was portrayed as a repressed homosexual in Robert Graves' novel Wife to Mr. Milton.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1717 – Johann Joachim Winckelmann German art historian and archaeologist, born (d.1768); Winckelmann was a pioneering Hellenist who first articulated the difference between Greek, Greco-Roman and Roman art. and "the prophet and founding hero of modern archaeology."
From 1743 to 1748, he was the deputy headmaster of the gymnasium of Seehausen in the Altmark. His means were insufficient: his salary was so low that he had to rely on his students' parents for free meals. He was thus obliged to accept a tutorship near Magdeburg. While tutor for the powerful Lamprecht family, he fell into unrequited love with the handsome Lamprecht son. This was one of a series of such loves throughout his life. His enthusiasm for the male form excited Winckelmann's budding admiration of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture and he decided to go to Rome to study. Winckelmann arrived in Rome in November 1755. His first task there was to describe the statues in the Cortile del Belvedere—the Apollo Belvedere, the Laocoön, the so-called Antinous, and the Belvedere Torso—which represented to him the "utmost perfection of ancient sculpture."
Tumblr media
Laocoön and His Sons
Originally, Winckelmann planned to stay in Italy only two years, but the outbreak of the Seven Years' War (1756-1763) changed his plans. He was named librarian to Cardinal Passionei, who was impressed by Winckelmann's beautiful Greek writing. Winckelmann also became librarian to Cardinal Archinto, and received much kindness from Cardinal Passionei. After their deaths, Winckelmann was hired as librarian in the house of Alessandro Cardinal Albani, who was forming his magnificent collection of antiquities in the villa at Porta Salaria.
With the aid of his new friend and lover, the painter Anton Raphael Mengs (1728-79), with whom he first lived in Rome, Winckelmann devoted himself to the study of Roman antiquities and gradually acquired an unrivalled knowledge of ancient art. Winckelmann's method of careful observation allowed him to identify Roman copies of Greek art, something that was unusual at that time—Roman culture was considered the ultimate achievement of Antiquity. His friend Mengs became the channel through which Winkelmann's ideas were realized in art and spread around Europe.

1904 – Anthony Santasiere (d.1977) was an American chess master and chess writer, who also wrote extensively on non-chess topics. Santasiere was a middle school mathematics teacher by profession. Santasiere won the 1945 U.S. Open Chess Championship, four New York State championships, and six Marshall Chess Club championships. He competed in four U.S. Chess Championships, with his best finish being a tie for third in 1946. He was a chess organizer.
Santasiere, of French and Italian ancestry, was born and raised in New York City, the 12th of 13 children, and grew up in extreme poverty. He graduated from City College with a degree in mathematics. His studies there were financed by Alrick Man, a wealthy chess enthusiast who had served as president of the Marshall Chess Club. Santasiere represented CCNY in intercollegiate chess. Following graduation, beginning in 1927, Santasiere taught mathematics at the Angelo Patri Middle School in the Bronx, and held that position until he retired to south Florida in 1965.
Santasiere wrote extensively on chess in the magazine American Chess Bulletin, from 1930 to 1963; he served as Games Editor, working with Editor Hermann Helms. The chess opening Santasiere's Folly (1.Nf3 d5 2.b4), was originated and developed by him, and is named for him. Santasiere was also an expert in the Reti Opening, the King's Gambit, and the Vienna Game.
He was an enthusiastic amateur painter, painting over 400 oil paintings, and a prolific poet and creative writer on non-chess topics. He played piano, and was a keen chef who frequently hosted dinner parties. He organized many small-size Master events in his apartment in New York.
In 1965, he retired to south Florida, where he continued to play tournament chess for a while, and won several local tournaments. A gay man, he lived with a younger man, Hector; friend Arnold Denker recalls a loving but turbulent relationship between those two, characterizing them as "Felix and Oscar". On his death Santasiere left his estate to his partner.
