Lieutenant Lorelei Reed is a first-generation, three-star pilot for the United Forces of the Red Remembrance. She is the only pilot capable enough to helm the UFRR's greatest mystery; Acheilus, an antiquated shark mecha from before The End. It is a time of peace; the bitterness from the Coalition of The Last Frontier's abandonment has long since diluted away in favor of lucrative trade deals from space - goods that could only benefit the UFRR's longevity underseas. It is a good deal, kind, even. Generous. But Lorelei cannot help but taste the tang of deceit between her teeth. The sickly stick of rot amplifies after she spots another shark mecha circling the edges of UFRR's water space. Sleek black and glinting metal - a convincing imitation of the UFRR's mechanics. The problem with this: Lorelei captains the only shark in the entire fleet.

My hands shake. Admiral Thetis was right about one other thing, too. I had been gone for a long time; I'd been gone for months. Months of an endless blue that pervaded my eyes, an infinitum of mouthless words, and moments to think and move as I pleased. I'd rediscovered creatures that hadn’t been seen in years, listened as whales called through, and laughed when other sharks circled Acheilus, trying to communicate. It might have been the closest thing to peace that I've ever felt.  Peace does not exist in the lion’s den— a name I've mocked HQ with —  instead, the oppressive nature of fear lies thick along the walls of the hull. Fear is every step you take, it is every beating heart, every conspired whisper. It exists within the hollows of my cells, in every ill-intended look cast my way. I am fear and they make me believe it.

what are your favourite podcasts and what do you do when you're listening to them? 👀

AAAAAAH OKAY SO IDK HOW TO CHOOSE A FAVORITE??? The easier answer might be what I do when I listen because that explains my listenjng behavior dhdjfjf I do most of my listening while working, that's like 4hrs every weekday and I ALSO like listening to poscasts on the way to uni which is like 40 more minutes one three days a week, as such I have a high podcast wearout so to say.

The podcast I am listening to the most right now is "Pretending To Be People", specifically season 2, a rpg horror/mystery game play in the Delta Green setting. It's horror/mystery but also super funny and ridiculous, the guys have very nice voices AND voice act their characters very well which means despite having four masculine voices at the table I can keep the characters apart easily. I often have the problem that I can't tell who is who because people's voices sound too similar but not with PtbP! (And really any of the podcasts I'm listening to, since I wouldn't be listening otherwise lmao) Each episode is about 40min to 1h long without ads beyond their own patreon clip which is always done by Wolf The Dog and fun as hell! With 46 episodes of season 2 out at the moment I'll be caught up soon - episode 37 is running as I type this - but I'm looking forward to going back to the first campaign in season 1 and listening to that!

PtbP is the show I can binge while all the others come out weekly/bi-weekly/monthly.

Next up would be Hello From the Hallowoods (on tumblr @hellofromthehallowoods !!), just. my favorite forever and ever, the first podcast I found myself, the one I've been following for the longest probably, and the one that will stay with me for the longest since we have a projected 10 seasons, season 4 has started just this February and each season takes about one year. ANYWAYS, it's narrated by Our Loyal Host Nikignik who talks to humankind in our dreams in a post-apocalyptic world where mysterious Black Rains have supernaturally transformed all lifeforms that have touched and/or ingested it into warped and terrible versions of themselves. Much of the human population is locked in so called Dreaming Boxes operated by the Botulus Corporation, where they dream their lives away Matrix style but "consensually" bc they agreed to Botulus' Terms of Service before entering the Dreaming Box....(Lady Ethel Mallory, if I GET YOU...) There's Vampires, Frankenstein's Monsters, invisible people, ghosts, witches, eldritch tree gods, raven demons, werewolves, and robo-suits powered by floating skulls! It starts as separated story lines that meet as the plot progresses and is just. THE BEST. Incredibly queer, heart-wrenching, dramatic, the plot is INTRICATE and kind and weird and it fucks you up and (almost) ALL THE LIKE 150 CHARACTERS ARE VOICED BY MX. WILLIAM A. WELLMAN THEMSELVES. Season 4 is meant as a entry point for new listeners which is fun but it also means that every week I'm climbing the walls trying to figure out what the fuck is going on exactly because AAAAAAH????? (also no ads bc hfth runs entirely on patreon and the best intro/outro music)

Worlds Beyond Number (@worldsbeyondpod ) is the D20 podcast with Brennan, Aabria, Lou and Erika and I'm GOING INSANE WHAT WAS THIS LAST EPISODE??? The campaign right now is called The Wizard, the Witch and the Wild One and WHOOOOOOO BOY??? No idea what system or setting Brennan uses but its an rpg and it's gorgeous, and of course the crew is stellar and I want to claw up the walls for their characters. I cried and I laughed and I probably looked like i was having Problems to onlookers because i was Making Faces in public. I can't give you more words because wwwo just scrambles my brain! the episodes are like. An hour long each, no ads only the beautiful voices of Aabria, Brennan, Erika and Lou in my ears!! Sadly they release episodes only biweekly...

Another case for beautiful voice is Travelling Light by @monstrousproductions , a scifi show with audience participation about a traveller exploring the universe. It's very warm and comforting and funny and kind and very much about the exploration of interpersonal relationships and the world we live in and how we all live with and around each other. Hero R. Owens voices all characters and I could just go bathe in their voice forever.

Only a short mention for The Magnus Protocol bc that one's probably the best known out of all my choices by virtue of being a The Magnus Archives spinoff/sequel idk. I am listening, i am invested, what the fuck is going on?? 10/10 voices, Colin, I am rotating you in my brain.

Another object of weekly screaming is Sherlock & Co, a new Sherlock Holmes podcast, set in the 21st century where Watson becomes a podcaster and solves crimes with Sherlock Holmes. It's incredibly well made, with so much love and attention to the original (got the stamp of approval from my friend who's doing her PhD in Crime Fiction, so.), its funny as hell, so well produced and each case is a modern rewriting of an original short story! This one unfortunately does have ads but I'll suffer through them for the quality entertainment.

Last one of the currently releasing is The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity and Mortality! Narrated by The Audio Tour Guide, the artificial intelligence created to show visitors around, the plot starts with a mysterious multiple month long month shutdown of the museum with all its weird, morbid and mysterious artefacts, locking all visitors and staff inside.... And then. the Tourguide finds someone wandering the museum. and gives them a tour. And you get to hear about the artefacts while mysterious things occur!

On break at the moment - if I remember correctly - between seasons but I'm excited for when they come back: Death by Dying, @deathbydyingpod , listen to the pretentious Obituary Writer, who definitely has his shit together, get into all sorts of morbid, deadly problems!

Or follow Dr. Jared Hel from Jar of Rebuke (@jarofrebukepodcast) whose supernatural ability is totally valued at his workplace, there's nothing weird about it at all, also Jared is fine, it's fine, and Jared's job researching supernatural creatures at The Enclosure is FINE.

If you want more humor, The Amelia Project (over at @ameliapodcast run by The Intern) is about a faking deaths business but only if the story is fun enough, making me into a sleeper agent activated by Veuve Cliquot and cocoa from Les Deux Magots, being Very Old And Mysterious and also Being So Tired Of Your Ridiculous Boss.

Leaving Corvat, (on here at @leavingcorvat ) is a fun weird podcast about a guy finally quitting his job at a burger fast food chain, stealing his boss' car and then shit just spirals from there with drug dealing, weird sticky roads, cults and timey wimey stuff! It all feels very magical realism to me in that Things Happen and there's Plot but fuck if you get an explanation. It's great.

Honorable mentions to the completed podcasts: I am in Eskew, a supremely melancholy horror that asks what if a city lobed you so much, and what if you were wet and tired and tried to get away but not really. Monstrous Agonies, also by @monstrousproductions , now loosely continued on tumblr via @thenightfolknetwork , a radio advice show for all the supernatural beings of the UK, comfort into your brain via audio waves and Hero's voice. I cried a couple times and episode forty will forever be in my heart. Also, super funny, I would kill for Mable and I would kill the CEO. And last but not least, The Magnus Archives, the one podcast that started it all, thanks to @notgreengardens!

I just started listening last week and I'm honestly having a blast. The stories are always fun, the acting is a delight, the intro makes me want to dance so much...

Now I have a question. See I live in Paris. And there's this delicious sounding cocoa from Les Deux Magots, of course I was gonna look it up. It's in the damned 6th, at Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and look I need an honest answer. Is their cocoa really that good. Is the experience of a cocoa there worth the dishonest to god 9€50 they charge for a cocoa. I can technically afford it, but it better be the best cocoa I got my hands on. Right now the top of the list is the ciocco calda their serve at Rifugio Sapienzia.

Your show is making me crave cocoa so bad. Whatever your answer I'll get a cocoa soon, but I'll probably buy stuff to make cocoa rather than go out if Les Deux Magots is better left as a fantasy of the perfect chocolat chaud.
