I REGRET BEING APOLITICAL
As I dwelled in my own bubble of my ignorance and apolitical luxury, I turned to realize that chosing to remain neutral was a mistake. A huge mistake. For I turned a blind eye to issues that made the masses suffer and chosing to live in a world of black and white. I would have chosen the side of the oppressor if I ultimately chose to remain neutral until the very end.

ugghhh EBU refusing to let Zelenskyi speak at the Ukrainian Eurovision finale because "it would be against the rules because Eurovision is apolitical uwu" like. EBU. Girl. You do understand that refusing to let him speak there is a political act in and of itfself right???? Do you think you kicked Russia out for the lols??? The 1st semifinal's show with all the text messages on the screen was just a fancy visual??? The pride flags in the audience not a political statement in support of LGBTQ+ rights??? lmao please. apolitical my ass

i don't wanna sound like a boomer "music was better back then" bc i think that is just incorrect js because i like older music doesn't mean i can't appreciate music today especially bc there's a lot of problematic things with older music. HOWEVER i find it INSANE that anti war music isn't as popular today... i don't mean people aren't making it bc they certainly are. but i mean if you look at the billboard top 100 there are no protest songs and it's so odd to me bc during the vietnam war pretty much every other hit was anti war. music was so important in anti war advocacy and i have barely seen any popular artists speak up about palestine, let alone a hit song that is anti israel at all. again to be clear i know this music exists it's just not as popular and it's all very weird to me. the music industry has certainly improved since the 60s and 70s and let in more diverse voices which i think is great and amazing. i js wish there were more popular artists talking about palestine bc it's the basis of a lot of the artists that inspired these ones, like the beatles (specifically john lennon) openly spoke out against the war, etc

long running shows like modern family start to fall apart bc they reduce the 3D-ness of their characters into quick words n change them up as dependent on the plot v understanding the characters and keeping their growth consistent. also bc theyre yt and white comedy shows dont know how to engage in anything beyond surface level humor even when they are to some degree tryign to be political

okay this is going to be an insufferable and niche post but the reason I’m so hard on Elyse Meyers is because we have so many similarities and such differences of purpose. Like. for both of us it goes
✔️ brunettes (curly hair)
✔️ interesting, imperfect faces
✔️ infectious laughs (eyes go all crinkly)
✔️ tons of anxiety
✔️ natural storytellers (good with words)
✔️ able to combine charm and vulnerability to awaken empathy
but we’re using those powers for very different reasons and in different ways. Every choice she makes is one I have consciously turned away from because I don’t think they’re valid choices!!!! (More thoughts in the tags)

Dude.. my ex boyfriend totally did get me into conspiracy theory shit, even if unintentionally (i think its intentional im sure he believed in that shit. Would not surprise me at all.) At the time i was already pretty isolated from anyone online who mightve countered any of my dumb spiritual or alien related beliefs because of some dumb shit i said online making most of the friends and followers i made online generally avoid me, depending on who it was. I was just a regular pagan and then he showed me this weird video with all this weird conspiracy theory symbolism in it. I looked it up later on and looked up the meaning of the symbolism and came across a whole bunch of stuff posing itself as Secret Information The US Govt Doesnt Want You To Know About, etc. And then i just fell deeper into the conspiracy theory pipeline, traded my paganism for new age beliefs, and goddamn dude. Like we both got suspended from school bc he had a dumb idea to dumb shit there and i spent my time in detention fucking. Trying to read "the emerald tablets" or whatever tf. Its all coming back to me rn.

im too tired to elaborate rn and i already made another post on a similar topic a while back but this modern trend of only consuming "unproblematic" media and shunning media with actual discussions on immorality because the narrative isn't *punishing the bad people all the time* or god forbid, a piece of media where a good person has bad character traits and how people seem to be afraid to interact with media that actually has *problematic* views and opinions is the direct reason why liberal media is so insufferable to watch rn.
there is a really good video by The Closer Look on this phenomenon in action in a recent Dr. Who season, but basically what I mean is, liberal media (and even more outright leftist media, like my arch-nemesis, cloudpunk) are so invested in commenting on what is happening in the world and what kinds of problems there are and what kinds of bigoted people there are, but they don't give you nuance, they only give you a narrative that shows you what the author thinks the correct opinions are and don't let you think for yourself. and because some creators are so scared of nuance being misinterpreted, they create these incredibly sanitized, black and white narratives where the audience can pat themselves on the back because they consumed a piece of media where the villain was an evil CEO and that is bascially the same as activism and also a standard to define that a piece of media is *good*
