i keep needing to remind myself that my parents are allowed to have priorities and are under no obligation to coddle me at all times, but i don't know i guess it still kind of hurts to be incompatible with them like that. i don't hate my parents, i get along with them quite well actually. but living with them is hellish. i don't know why i'm fucked up like that but so far it seems to have been pretty consistent since birth so. i don't think im getting out of it.
#idk even. small things. i guess.#before christmas we had long conversations w my mom during which i explained WHY i dont like gifts#and we settled on my parents only giving me a card and some small thing if they reaaaaally felt like it#(they did ofc and they fumbled btw it was a complete miss but it's alright i didn't tell them)#and now at easter my mom asks ''and can the easter bunny gift you something'' so im like......... ''i you WANT i guess''#so yeah she gave me (bulimic. hates gifts. already not in a good place mentally.) chocolates anyway#and it's like. on one hand i want to respect that she knows her own priorities and shit and i can ask for things but i can't DEMAND them#but also i feel like everything is a joke. are you kidding me. was that fucking chocolate chicken THAT important to you.#it's just grjkehrkgherj we HAVE to always do what we HAVE to do because it's NORMAL and COMMON COURTESY#and like im not demanding from my parents to change the way they like to interact w family or smth#but then it sets up unwinnable situations.#aunt cuntbitch is saying bigoted shit? well tell her so if you're not happy!#then proceed to look at you like 👁💥👁 when you say ''hey i think that's inappropriate bc X and Y argument''#it's just ????? stop pretending you're some kind of champion of fairness and conflict resolution when your goal is just not to make waves#i'm 100% guilty of this too but i've been recently noticing that uhm. i kind of was raised like that actually.#broadcasting my misery#vent

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back  (Pt 2 of Seizing Life)
--------------------------------
As Loraine embraces her new freedom, her headaches get worse and new symptoms come to light. Lo wants her life to be normal but she can’t hide the obvious from her moms.
---------------------------------
Loraine enjoyed her new found freedom over the next few weeks. She was able to take the bus to school again and walk around the city on her own. She even got to spend her afternoons alone at home before her moms got home from work. It was a small thing, but it was the little pieces of freedom in her day to day life that she missed the most.
Today Loraine was homework free, a rare occasion given she went to a school hell bent on keeping students busy in preparation for high profile careers in demanding fields. Even though Loraine was exhausted, she decided to take the opportunity to make a stop at L-Corp to see what her mom was up to in the lab. She loved visiting L-Corp and seeing and playing around with the prototypes.
“Hi Mom!” Loraine greeted as she walked into the lab. Lena was focused and looking through a microscope. “Whatcha working on?” Loraine sat on one of the lab stools opposite Lena. The teen’s body had been feeling a bit achy lately, possibly a side effect of going out and being more active thanks to her new found freedom.
“A new biologic…” Lena was still focused on the microscope. “Its part of the cancer research I was telling you about.” Lena finally looked up.
“As much as it is always a wonderful surprise to see you Lo, shouldn’t you be at home finishing your homework?” Lena raised a warning eyebrow. She couldn’t really be made at Loraine for visiting, but she felt it was her parental duty to instill some boundaries. Lena also didn’t want Loraine staying up too late, she had noticed Loraine seemed tired a lot more lately.
“Finished it during lunch.” Loraine beamed with triumph. “Plus I haven't visited in awhile and figured it was time to see what you're doing to my future empire.” Loraine often joked with Lena about taking over the company.
“Your empire, huh? Nice try, but you’ll have to earn it first Loraine.”
“I know, I know…. Just making a prediction”
“Come here I want to show you something R&D just sent.” Loraine followed Lena over to another lab table where a small cellphone sized device was displayed along with a slew of other engineering tools. “It's a therma projection radar. It can scan a person and project health risks for vital signs.” Loraine picked up a calibration tool and was fiddling around with it as Lena explained the science. Aparatenly the prototype was under performing and Lena was going to make some updates to it herself before considering any further manufacturing options.
Clang clang. The tool that had been in Loraine’s hand crashed to the floor. Lena immediately stopped and looked at Loraine.
“Lo, you have to be more careful.” Loraine quickly picked up the tool and set it back down on the table gently.
“Sorry” Loraine apologized to Lena, hoping the tool wasn't anything custom made.
“It's ok,” Lena looked at Loraine trying to see if there were any signs of a potential seizure. Loraine noticed Lena’s concerned gaze.
“Mom, I’m fine. Just a little clumsy.” Loraine reassured and sat back down on the lab stool trying to conceal a yawn.
“And tired.” Lena added.
“Ok, clumsy and tired.” Loraine conceded and looked down. She hated when her mom got overly concerned about her. Even though she knew it was her mom’s job to be worried about her, Loraine couldn’t help feeling like a burden.
“Are you sleeping ok at night?” Lena asked as she started packing away her research.
“Yeah, I get plenty of sleep. It’s just been a long week that’s all.” Loraine tried to brush it off.
“Just let us know if you aren’t feeling well sweetie.”
“I’m fine.” Loraine rolled her eyes and gave a heavy sigh.
“Ok.” Lena raised her hands in surrender not wanting to push the teen too much.
The pair headed off home in Lena’s private car shortly after. Even though Lena had more work, she wanted to give Loraine the chance to relax and maybe take a nap before dinner. Lena even got an email from Loraine’s science teacher expressing concern over the fact that Loraine fell asleep during his class.
The ride was relatively quiet. Lena went through emails on her phone and Loraine just stared out the window trying to stay awake. The teen had had a dully headache for the past several days and it was starting to turn into a pounding headache. When they were finally home and in the garage, Loraine moved rather slowly to exit the car, her headache making her feel off balance. Every movement felt like a lot of work given how tired and achy Loraine was. Lena was out of the car and already waiting for Loraine near the door, wondering what was taking so long. Loraine stood up from the car, but the ground felt strange and unsteady. Loraine braced herself on the car and squeezed her eyes shut, the unsteady feeling made her feel slightly nauseated. Loraine tried to take a step but stumbled forward and fell to her knees. The driver rushed over to help Loraine up as Lena did the same.
“Lo, are you ok?” Lena asked holding Loraine’s shoulders.
Loraine nodded and gave a small embarrassed smile. “Thanks Felix. I’m fine, really.” Despite her words Loraine’s voice seemed a bit shaky. Felix made sure Lena and Loraine were safely inside before taking off.
Loraine had minor scrapes on her knees with minimal blood and mere scratches on her hands, nothing to be concerned about. Loraine’s movement still felt awkward and slow which she blamed on being tired.
“Let's take care of those scrapes.” Lena walked toward the bathroom and looked back to see if Loraine was coming too. She noticed that Loraine was moving slowly and with greater care, as if she were afraid of falling once more. The truth was, Loraine still felt unsteady with each step and she just wanted to make it from point A to point B without another fall.
Lena had Loraine sit on the small chair in front of her vanity as she kneeled and cleaned and bandaged Loraine’s knees and hands. Loraine was too tired to react to the sting of the antiseptic cream. When Lena finished up, she remained on her knees looking into her tired daughter’s eyes and asked once more.
“Sweetheart , are you sure you’re ok?” Lena waited for Loraine to respond, but the teen just looked away. “Its ok if you’re not. I just want to know so I can help.” Lena took Loraine’s hand in her own and noticed the teen’s hand was shaking. All Lena wanted was to comfort and reassure her daughter. When Loraine finally looked back it was with tears trickling down her face.
“I’m just really tired.” Loraine admitted quietly. She didn't have the energy to explain how the ground felts funny and besides she didn't want her mom to have even more reason to worry. Lena whipped away Loraine’s tears. She was relieved Loraine was talking to her but also worried there might be more to it than exhaustion.
“That’s alright sweetie. Why don’t we get you in bed, hm? You can rest and I’ll come wake you for dinner. How’s that?” Loraine nodded in agreement and let her mom help her up and to her room. Loraine didn't even protest at the assistance. She was too tired and unsteady to pull herself together enough to get there anyway. Lena was surprised at just how unsteady Loraine was.
Loraine slept for a couple hours, but was still exhausted when Lena retrieved her for dinner.
“Mm not hungry.” Loraine mumbled into her pillow.
“Sweetheart you have to have a little something to eat with your meds.” Lena gently pulled back the covers and ran her hand up and down Loraine’s back, which always seemed to coax Loraine out of a deep slumber. Instead of leaving, Lena helped Loraine up and stayed beside her just in case Loraine needed the support. Lena was happy to see that sleep seemed to do Loraine some good as the teen made it down the stairs without a problem.
“Grandma Eliza still wants to know if you want cinnamon rolls or blueberry muffins for Christmas breakfast Lo.” Kara looked to Loraine, waiting for the teen’s response. Loraine had been awfully quiet throughout dinner and barely touched her food. “Loraine?” Kara tried again.
“Just weighing my options,” Loraine joked, “it's a big decision, but I’m leaning toward the muffins.”
“Good choice, those muffins are legendary.” Kara had tried many times to bake Eliza’s recipe but it never turned out quite right.
Clank Loraine dropped her fork causing a loud reverberating noise.
“Sorry!” Loraine quickly picked up her utensil from the floor and went to get another from the kitchen.
“That's alright sweetie. While you’re in the kitchen could you get me a glass of water?” Kara asked.
“Sure.” Loraine retrieved the water and clean fork and dinner went by as usual. Kara noticed Loraine’s hand shaking as she set the water down in front of her. She gave Lena a concerned look, but Lena was already watching her daughter’s every move. The parents silently agreed to discuss later.
As dinner continued Loraine seemed more and more withdrawn. She altogether stopped moving and was staring blankly at her plate. Internally Loraine was entirely consumed by the throbbing of her head, so much so that she was oblivious to the conversation around her. Lena got up from her seat and went to kneel by Loraine so she was eye level with her daughter.
“Lo, sweetie, what's going on?” Lena asked in a quiet voice. Lena knew from her extensive research on seizures that not all types of seizures involve convulsions, some can simply look like someone staring blankly and being unresponsive.
“Hmm…” Loraine seemed to come to, “Wh… what?” Loraine was trying her hardest to focus on her surroundings now, which was still difficult with her headache.
“Are you feeling ok, Loraine?” Lena asked, still kneeling in front of Loraine. Kara was up and prepared to help in any way possible if Loraine was about to have a seizure.
“Sorry,” Loraine looked down to her plate then back up, “I’m just a little out of it... I think I just want to lie down.” Lena looked at Loraine unconvinced. Kara made sure Loraine got into bed ok before joining Lena back downstairs. To her surprise Loraine didn't even protest at the help, the teen was too out of it to realize what was happening.
“How is she?” Lena asked.
“She’s exhausted, maybe even coming down with the flu or something.” Kara was lost in thought and concern. “I’ve just never seen her like this. I mean sure it was bad last year, but this is different, isn't it?” Kara looks to her wife, who is on her phone typing.
“Alex agreed to see her tomorrow to run some tests.” Lena looked up from her phone. “You’re right, this is different or…” Lena trailed off in thought but shook her head.
“What is it?” Kara asked.
“Its… what if Loraine doesn't have a seizure disorder. What if the seizures were just one symptom of something else.” Lena had done extensive research on pediatric seizure conditions as well as other conditions that caused seizures. There were a few conditions Lena was concerned may match Loraine’s current state.

Zoom call with Henry
Today, Mom talks with Dad for ages. She makes Henry leave the room like always, ordering him to go play, and she closes the door behind him.  As if that ever stops Henry from being able to hear everything she says.  She always talks in such a loud voice to Dad.
But today, her voice is really quiet.  Even with his ear pressed flat against the door, the only words he can make out are right at the end of the conversation: “I just don’t want you to tell him yet, Charlie.  We both know what you’re like.  He’ll only be disappointed.”
Henry knows she’s talking about him, but he doesn’t understand what she means.
When Mom opens the door again, he’s sitting in the middle of the hallway with his colored pencils and sketchpad, deeply engrossed in his latest masterpiece.
“Henry? Do you want to talk to Dad?”
Henry’s heart leaps with excitement.  He tears off the page he’s been working on and brings it with him, leaving the rest of his mess on the floor.  He bounds into the office and climbs into the comfy leather chair, wiggling around until he’s comfortable.  His feet almost but not quite touch the ground. Grandma said the other day that he’ll be as tall as Dad soon, and Mom gave her a look that Henry didn’t get.
There’s a lot he doesn’t understand sometimes.  Grownups are strange, he thinks.  Especially his parents.
“Hi Dad!”
“Hello, Henry.”  Dad’s little smile is the same as ever, but he looks tired today.  The same kind of tired as when he was sleeping on the couch, when him and Mom thought Henry didn’t know.  “How are you today?”
“GOOD!” Henry happily rattles off a list of all the fun things he did.  A playdate at the park with Josh.  Frozen yogurt on the way home.  Helping to bake cookies to take to Grandma’s tomorrow.  Mom even let him lick the spoon because he’d done such a good job of measuring out the ingredients without making a mess.  The only dark spot on the horizon is the bath that Mom has been threatening him with since this morning, but Henry thinks he can probably sweet-talk her into an hour of video games if he goes without protest, so it’s not all bad.
He has to take a big gulp of air at the end, because he’s forgotten to breathe in his excitement to tell Dad everything all at once.  “How about you, Dad?  It’s late there, right?  Did you and Britt do something fun today?  Is she there?  Can I talk to her?”
Something weird happens.  Dad flinches, like Henry does when Mom catches him doing something he knows he shouldn’t do.  But when he starts talking, it’s completely normal.  “Britt’s not here, honey.  We were both very busy doing different things today.  She’s been … planning something.  And I’ve been working on my writing.  Well, trying to.”
Dad picks up a funny-shaped glass of something red, and takes a long swig of it.  He told Henry once that it’s grape juice for adults.  Henry asked Mom about it afterwards, and she said something about Dad being just like his parents.  But that can’t be right, because Dad doesn’t have any parents.  That’s why Henry only has one grandma, right?
Dad likes to write like Henry likes to draw.  It’s his favorite thing to do, and he does it a lot. Henry can sit silently so much better than any of his friends, because he learned very early on that if he could be still and quiet, he could sit with his dad for as long as he wanted to.  He loves visiting Dad in New York.  Going out and doing a million different activities is so much fun!  But the best times are when they’re in Dad’s study, and Henry is sprawled out on the rug with his pencils and sketchpad, doodling whatever comes into his imagination.  He likes hearing the sound of Dad’s fingers flying over the laptop keyboard, and the way he occasionally mutters to himself while he thinks.  And he really likes the way Dad will often close his laptop with a frustrated sigh, and come sit on on the floor next to Henry, and listen to him talk for hours about whatever he’s been working on.
Speaking of which, Henry has something he wants to show him. “Dad, look!  I drew this for you!”  He holds up the picture he finished only moments ago.
Dad peers at the screen, makes an impatient sound, and then reaches off to the side, retrieving his glasses and putting them on.  For a moment, he tilts his head to one side, and then the other.  “Why don’t you talk me through it,” he suggests eventually, his voice very kind.
Henry huffs.  Isn’t it obvious? Dad must have really bad eyesight.  Probably because he’s so old. “This is you,” he says, pointing at the tallest figure, who has very long legs.  “You’re wearing black, of course.” He points to the next largest person, with long hair.  “This is Britt.  She’s wearing her favorite big cardigan.  And in the middle, it’s me.”
Dad nods slowly and appreciatively.  “Very nice.  Your grasp of proportions is improving, and everyone has the correct number of fingers this time.  But can you explain why we are surrounded by so many dinosaurs?”
“Because we’re at the Museum of Natural History!”  It’s Henry’s favorite place in New York, aside from Dad’s study, and maybe that pizza place they go to every time he visits.
“Ah. Of course.  Silly me.  And … what is that strange looking dinosaur in the middle between you and Britt?”
Henry rolls his eyes.  “DAD!” he complains.  “That’s not a dinosaur!  That’s the baby!”
There’s a spluttering sound as Dad, who is halfway through another mouthful of his “juice”, begins to choke.  “W-what?” he stutters eventually, grabbing a tissue and wiping frantically at the front of his sweater.
This is it.  Henry’s big chance.
“Well … Josh’s Mom had a baby during lockdown.  She brought it to the park today and it was so cute, and Josh says it’s annoying and cries all night, but I think he’s just jealous because HE still wants to be the baby, and I actually think it would be really fun to be a big brother, so I asked Mom but she said absolutely not, so basically you and Britt should have a baby so I can play with it and teach it all about dinosaurs and show it how to read and write and draw.”
Henry runs completely out of steam at the end of his big speech, and has to take another of his massive gasps of air as he’s started to feel a bit lightheaded.
Just for a moment, there’s a strange expression on Dad’s face.  He almost looks sad.  But then he’s smiling again, although he still looks tired.  “Now, Henry.  That’s rather a big ask.  There’s an awful lot more to take into account than you wanting a sibling, I’m afraid.”
“But Dad – I asked Mom where babies come from, and she said that when a man and a woman love each other very much, they can have a baby.  And you and Britt love each other very much, right?  So you can have a baby, RIGHT?  By Christmas would be great.  It can be my present, instead of a replacement for the Nintendo Switch I lost last time I was there.”
Dad is laughing now.  Properly laughing, like he hardly ever does.  It’s hard to imagine how sad he looked a minute ago.  Maybe Henry just imagined it … “Henry, it takes an entire nine months for a baby to grow in a woman’s tummy.  Even if we were to acquiesce to your request immediately, there’s no way we could produce a baby by December.  Indeed, at the very most, Britt would merely be looking slightly round in the middle by Christmas …”  He tails off for a moment, as if lost in thought, with a little smile on his face.  But then he shakes his head slightly and continues talking.  “The answer’s no, honey.  You will get your new Nintendo Switch, and that Goose game you’ve been talking about nonstop, and you will be grateful.”
Henry pouts.  “BUT DAD …”
“No.”
Henry tries a different approach.  “I love you, Dad.  I miss you …”
“Nice try.”  Dad folds his arms across his chest.  “But that pout you wield originated with me, and you should know by now that it holds no power over me.  The answer’s still no.  However, I do love you an immense amount.  And I miss you. Very, very much.”
Dad looks a little bit sad again.  Henry feels sad now, too.  He really does miss him.  Mom is great, but Dad gives the best hugs.
Suddenly, Mom’s voice calls out from the hallway, loud enough for him and Dad to both hear. “Henry?  It’s getting late.  You need to finish up and take a bath before bedtime.”
NOOOOOOOO.
Henry doesn’t want any hecking bath!  And he isn’t done talking, either.  He casts his mind around, trying to think of a way to stall for time.  Finally, something strange Dad said earlier comes back to him, and he decides to ask for further clarification.  “Dad? I have a question.”
He knows Dad knows that he’s stalling because Dad’s super smart.  But he also knows that he doesn’t mind.  He never wants their calls to end, either.  “Yes, honey?”
“How exactly does the baby get into the woman’s tummy?”
Dad’s eyes widen for a second.  Then he grins.  “Why don’t you ask your mother,” he suggests, voice loud enough for Mom to hear him from the hallway.  “She knows all about it.”
***
Twenty minutes later, Henry is wallowing in the bath.  It isn’t as bad as he thought it would be.  (It never is.)  Mom let him choose one of her Lush bath bombs, so the water is pink and sparkly, and covered in a thick layer of foam.  At least twelve of his dinosaur figurines have joined him for moral support.
As he lines them up along the side of the tub in alphabetical order, his mind wanders to something Mom shouted just as Dad finished the call.  What’s a bastard? he wonders.  She uses that word a lot when she talks about Dad.
Mom said that when a man and a woman love each other very much, they can have a baby.  But Mom and Dad haven’t ever seemed to even like each other very much.  So Henry can’t help but wonder how he came to be.  Maybe Mom got it wrong, though that doesn’t seem likely.  Maybe Henry misunderstood.  That’s probably right.
There’s a lot he doesn’t understand sometimes.  Grownups are strange, he thinks.
Especially his parents.

Before MSA + 1: Halloween
Arthur had managed to put together something that acted like a diaper but which fitted into his pocket instead of around the hamster.  “It takes a little bit to put them together though…”
Cadence seemed happy with the pocket diaper considering how much time she was spending in Arthur’s shirt and coat pockets.
“I wonder if you could incorporate it into your Halloween costume,” mused Vivi.
“Uh…What’s Halloween?” asked Arthur.
Sydney and Lewis gave Arthur startled looks.  “You don’t know what Halloween is?!”
Arthur panicked a bit as he realized this was something everyone was supposed to know about. “My parents were super religious,” he said quickly.  Sydney and Lewis seemed to accept it.
“Halloween evolved from the Celtic celebration of Samhain,” explained Vivi.  “It was the ending of the year at sun down, but the new year didn’t start until the sun rose.  Being outside of time as it were meant that ghosts and the like had an easier time manifesting. It probably makes magic easier and stronger too.  At some point, people started wearing scary outfits to try and blend in or scare away the spirits.  That ritual eventually became putting on costumes for fun and, in the case of kids, going around to houses and asking for treats.”
The other kids were staring at her in surprise at the info dump, while Arthur was wondering if this meant Halloween was technically a pagan holiday.
“Actually, the Catholic church took a lot of pagan holidays and incorporated them into their religion.  Christmas takes place in December because that’s when a big festival called Saturnalia took place in the Roman empire.  Evidence suggests that Jesus was actually born in Spring,” continued Vivi as if she’d predicted Arthur’s thoughts.
The more Arthur learned the more he wondered if the adults in his early life knew what they were doing.
“Anyway…My dad makes cosplay as a side job so if you want he can make you guys costumes too,” said Sydney.
Lewis nodded. “He always makes costumes for us.”
Vivi perked up.  “Really?”
Sydney nodded. “But nothing super complicated, okay? He’s gotta budget.”
“What’s cosplay?” asked Arthur.
“Costume play,” explained Lewis.  “People dress up like characters from anime or videogames that they love.  Some of the outfits are really complicated or accurate.”
“We usually do a theme for Halloween,” continued Sydney.
“We did Sailor Moon for a couple of years,” said Lewis.
“Another time we were Ed and Al Elric,” said Sydney.  “I’m not sure what we could do with four people.”
“Power Rangers?” suggested Vivi.
“There’s usually five of ‘em though,” said Sydney.
“Is that a big deal?” asked Arthur.
“Not really,” said Lewis.  “It would just seem a little weird to be short a ranger.”
“So, we need a group of four people,” muttered Sydney.  “All I can think of are Transformers, but that might be too complicated.”
“All I can think of is the Scooby Doo gang,” said Vivi.
Silence.  The kids turned to stare at Ben.  “Would Ben let us dye his fur?” asked Lewis.
“I have no idea,” admitted Vivi.  “Would the dye be safe?”
“I have no idea,” repeated Sydney.  “Dad knows a bit about hair dye…”
“I think you could get away with leaving him white and black,” said Arthur.
“So, who would be who?” asked Lewis.
Vivi and Sydney promptly pointed at Lewis.  “Fred.” Then they pointed towards Arthur. “Shaggy.”
“You do have the muscle tone going on,” agreed Arthur.
And Lewis blushed because he was somehow the biggest one there despite (probably) being the youngest.  “W-well, who’s gonna be Velma and Daphne?”
Sydney and Vivi exchanged looks.  That was…less obvious.  Both wore glasses, had relatively short statures, and were fairly tomboyish.
“You’re shorter,” said Vivi.
Sydney pouted. “Yeah, I am.  Guess that makes me Velma…What kind of name is Velma?”
“I dunno.”
“Will we need a van?”
“None of us can drive,” pointed out Arthur.
“Maybe a toy or something,” suggested Lewis.
“Oh, yeah, that makes more sense,” admitted Arthur.
The four kids (and dog and hamster) just lay there for several minutes.  It hadn’t been a particularly odd conversation, but something in the air seemed heavy, as if something life changing had just happened.
Then Ben started licking Arthur’s face, ending the moment.  Arthur let out a laugh.  “H-hey! Stop!  Stop!”
Vivi grinned. “You’re saying ‘stop’, but you’re laughing.”  Ben decided to switch targets and started licking Vivi instead.  She giggled.  “Ben!”
“We should teach him how to talk!”  Ben turned his attention to Sydney.  “Hey! Ew!  Your breath smells like fish!  Why does it smell like fish?  You’re not a cat!”
“Ben’ll eat anything if you give him the chance,” said Vivi.
Lewis pulled a bag of chips out from somewhere and grinned.  “Like this?”  He popped the bag open.  He was immediately tackled by the dog.  “Ack!” Ben quickly stuck his head in the bag and quickly snapped up the contents before transferring his ministrations to Lewis.  “Oh yuck! Your breath really does smell like fish!”
“Hold him for me,” said Vivi.  “I’ll brush his teeth!”
The whole thing devolved into a wrestling match.  No teeth were cleaned.  Everyone needed a bath afterwards.
Sydney had been right about the Scooby Doo costumes being fairly simple to make.  She hadn’t stopped to think about make-up and hairstyling though.
“Are you almost done?” asked Sydney Jr.
“Almost…Just one more pin…and done!”  Sydney Sr stepped back to admire how Sydney looked with the brown bob wig in addition to the rest of her costume.  “The shape of the glasses aren’t the same, but I don’t think anyone will care.”
Sydney Jr. twirled and did a hop-skip over to Vivi, who was messing with her noticeably longer orange wig.  “How ‘bout you?”
“I prefer shorter hair.  Hair this long just…gets in the way,” said Vivi as she glared distastefully at a lock of orange hair.
Sydney nodded. “I hear ya.  I just want it long enough to ponytail it.”  She glanced at the boys.  “How ‘bout you two?”
Unlike the girls, the boys weren’t wearing wigs.  They’d just had their hair styled into a close approximation of their chosen characters. Sydney Sr claimed this was because the wigs would look too bulky unless the boys were willing to shave their hair. They weren’t.
Arthur fingered his hair.  This doesn’t feel too different from usual besides the colors.”  He was wearing green and red.  He was coming to prefer bright colors like orange and yellow.
Lewis was happily studying his reflection.  “I kind of like this hairstyle.”  He turned to Sydney Sr.  “Will you teach me how to do this?”
Sydney Sr gave him a grin.  “Sure! I’ll get you some decent hair mousse. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’m gonna go change into my costume.”  On his way out, he ran into Hiro.  “So, how’d Ben like the vegetable dye?”
“He tolerated it.” That was a lie.  Ben had taken one look at the dye, snorted, and changed his fur color to the proper brown color.
“I’m leaving you alone with Noelle and the kids for a bit.  Behave now.”  And Sydney Sr hurried down the hallway.
Hiro raised an eyebrow.  The Sydneys were pretty darn odd.  Still, they got along with the rest of the family and friends, and Hiro did like them…in reasonable amounts.
He walked Ben over to the kids, who all started petting him.  “Wow, this dye is really realistic,” said Lewis.
Sydney nodded. “My dad knows what he’s doing.”
“How you holding up boy?” asked Vivi.  Ben licked her in response.  “Good to know.”
“Oh, you kids look so cute like that,” said Noelle.  “Let me get my camera!”
Hiro let the kids pose for the camera for several moments before clearing his throat. “Now, I don’t know how much you know about the holiday, but it is easier to come into contact with the supernatural starting tonight and lasting until November 2.  It’s most intense on Halloween though.  So, Mr. Scoville and I will be escorting you tonight.  I have tools prepared to chase off anything that may take an untoward interest in your group, and you will all be spending the night here.  Mr. Scoville also has some sort of repelling ability, so I’d imagine this is one of the safest places in the county.”
Arthur let out a sigh of relief.  “That’s a relief.”
“Had some bad experiences?” asked Vivi.
Arthur nodded. “I just knew they were at the end of October.  I didn’t know about the Halloween thing.  Why does it get so much worse anyway?”
“That’s not something with a simple answer,” said Hiro.  “Something makes…magic for lack of a better word more potent during these days, which makes it easier for people to see ghosts and for ghosts, along with other normally invisible entities, to become visible to people.  It’s a good time for them to be heard if there’s something they want to get across to the mundane, living population.”  Hiro glowered.  “Although I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a tradition among the supernatural to have fun and try to scare humans.  It’s what people are expecting to happen after all.”
Ben gave a barely noticeable shrug.  Hiro wasn’t wrong, but it was more of a ‘teenagers messing around and doing things their parents won’t necessarily approve of’ sort of thing.
Arthur crossed his arms.  “Well, I don’t like it, whatever it is…”
Vivi turned to Sydney and Lewis.  “Have you guys ever noticed anything weird around this time of year?”
“I haven’t ever noticed anything,” said Sydney.  “Lewis says there are ghosts all over the place though.”
Lewis nodded. “Yeah, some are pretty scary. It’s a lot more active in the cemetery and house.  Sydney always spends the night since some of them look pretty scary.”  Lewis made a face as something suddenly occurred to him. “Uh, this is the first Halloween we haven’t slept over at my house.  Do you think Mom and Dad and Belle will be okay?”
“I put some ofudas up at your house that should keep away most dangerous entities,” reassured Hiro. “Honestly, you probably attract half of the activity so just spending time away from them will put a stop to a portion of the paranormal activity.”
“Huh, really?  I had no idea,” said Lewis.
“Oh, yes, once ghosts figure out someone can see them word spreads very quickly.”
“Wait.  I can’t see ghosts, so why do they keep following me around?” asked Arthur.
Hiro shrugged. “I’m not entirely sure why, but you…leak energy.  Being around you is like it being Halloween all the time,” said Hiro.  “You also have an aura that the supernatural find pleasing, like how kids will gravitate to a kitchen where cookies have just been cooked.”
“I could go for some cookies,” said Vivi.
“You’re going to be getting plenty of candy tonight,” said Noelle.  “You can see about having cookies after you finish off the candy.”
Vivi grinned. “Challenge accepted.”
“No,” said Hiro.
“Aw…but-”
“No, you remember what happened last time,” said Hiro.
“Ooh, what happened last time?” asked Sydney.
“When she was five she ate all of her Halloween candy at once and didn’t sleep for three days,” explained Hiro.  “She tried to feed Ben chocolate.  Dogs can’t eat chocolate.”
Ben huffed because he could eat chocolate, thank you very much.  Stupid need to hold up the illusion all the time.  He couldn’t wait until Vivi was mature enough to know what he really was so he could relax at home.  Not to mention it would be easier to snatch some of whatever that was Noelle was cooking.
Lewis must have noticed how Ben was staring longingly towards the kitchen because he grabbed a treat out of his pocket.  “Would you like a Scooby Snack?”
Eh, it’ll do. Ben snapped it up and gave Lewis a lick of thanks.
“What’s taking your dad so long?” asked Vivi.  “He said he was going to be a zombie.  It can’t take that long to put on some torn clothing and fake blood.”
Sydney grinned. “Dad put in way more effort than that. There’s latex and make-up and contact lenses…”
“Mr. Scoville’s costumes are really complicated,” agreed Lewis.
Any further conversation was interrupted by a groaning sound.  Everyone turned to see…a zombie.  It was covered in bite marks, half rotten, had clouded over eyes, and dirty, torn clothing.  It was completely unrecognizable as Sydney Sr.
“…Okay, that is a convincing zombie costume,” admitted Vivi.
“Thank you,” said Sydney Sr, briefly breaking character before going back to groaning.
“You look like a dead body!” said Arthur.  “Which I guess is the point, but it’s creepy.”
Sydney Scoville groaned again.  He sure was taking the zombie thing seriously.
“So…”  Sydney Jr held up her treat bag.  “Can we go trick-or-treating now?”
“Unnngh!”
“Taking that as a yes!”
Thankfully, the other adults decided to agree with the translation so the kids were able to head out. “There are a lot of costumes,” commented Arthur.
Vivi nodded. “Yep, it’s a popular holiday.”
“What a cute baby!” cooed Lewis at a young couple and their baby, all of them dressed like dinosaurs.
“Thank you!”
“But most of them seem to be younger than us,” continued Arthur.
“That guy’s older than us,” pointing at a guy dressed like a robot.
“People just prefer to go to parties once they get older.  I don’t know why.  They’re sooo boring,” complained Vivi.  “Where’s the darkness?  Where’s the creepy shadows?  Where’s the questioning of if there’s a ghost around the corner or if that’s a really good werewolf costume or some werewolf decided to go to the store to pick up milk?”
“There are some ghosts following us,” commented Lewis.
Arthur tensed up. “Why?”
Lewis glanced towards the ghosts.  “Are you sure he’s not a zombie?  He looks pretty dead.”
“It’s Halloween. It’s obviously a very good costume.”
“He smells like a zombie though.”
“We’re ghosts! We can’t smell!”
“Oh yeah.”
“Besides, wasn’t there a Scooby-Doo movie with zombies?”
“Since when are there Scooby-Doo movies?”
“Mr. Scoville’s costume is really convincing,” said Lewis.
“Unngh!”
“Are zombies real?” asked Sydney.
“Yes,” said Hiro. “Under very specific circumstances. It takes one of a few specific rituals. It’s very dangerous and is not something that should ever be done unless you have prior permission from the subject of interest.  Even then, it’s not recommended because of the possible side effects.”  He paused.  “Actually, this is a very complicated subject.  Let’s talk about it when we have more time.”
“I don’t wanna talk about it at all,” muttered Arthur as they walked up to a house.
They took a moment to ring the doorbell, ask for treats, and thank the woman handing out the treats. Ben tried to beg for treats.  This wasn’t allowed, and the group went on their way.
“Do ghost hunters have a lot of work on Halloween?” asked Sydney.
“Paranormal investigators,” corrected Hiro.  “While we do look for ghosts, calling us ‘hunters’ suggests we intend to hurt ghosts in some way.  That’s a last resort in cases where the ghosts in question seek to harm the living and cannot be convinced otherwise.  And whether an investigator works on Halloween or not varies.  Most will take the time off because they might get false positives.  Some like working on Halloween though since they might get results they wouldn’t usually come by.”
“That doesn’t sound very professional,” muttered Arthur.
“I agree,” said Hiro. “Personally, I feel that circumstances that modify magical strengths can be dangerous, even if it’s something to your advantage.”
“Wouldn’t that make things easier?” asked Sydney.
“Yes, which might be good in an emergency, but it can make you under or overestimate a situation.”
“How is overestimating bad?” questioned Arthur.
Hiro took a minute to think about how to describe what he was thinking.  “It’s like using a hand grenade to make a hole when a drill will suffice.”
Vivi, Lewis, both Sydneys, and even Arthur laughed.  Hiro had to admit it wasn’t the best analogy, but it’s what he came up with on short notice.
“It’s like you thought the corn was sweet so you put in the wrong amount of salt,” said Lewis.
“That’s a better analogy,” admitted Hiro.  “Anyway, once you outgrow trick-or-treating, you should find some way to spend Halloween that doesn’t involve the supernatural.  Maybe go to a party or stay home and watch movies.”
“Watching movies would be nice,” said Arthur.
“Ooh!  We could watch the Nightmare Before Christmas again!” said Vivi.
“You will not. It’s a school night,” said Hiro.  “As it is the only reason you’re spending the night together is for safety’s sake.”  He looked to Sydney Sr.  “I’m trusting you and Mrs. Scoville to get the children to sleep and awake on time.”
“Nggggh!”
“That means yes,” said Sydney Jr.
“I still wish we could spend the night at Lewis’ house,” said Vivi.  “There’s a lot more space, and it seems more fitting to spend Halloween in a haunted house.”
“Belle sometimes cries at night.  She might wake you up,” said Lewis.
“Or we might wake her up,” countered Arthur.
“I don’t wanna wake Baby Belle up!” agreed Sydney Jr.  “She’s cute when she’s sleeping.”
The subject of conversation rapidly changed to siblings and sleepovers.  Hiro watched them absentmindedly before feeling something brush against his side.
It was just Ben, who gave him a smile unseen by anyone else.  Hiro found himself smiling back.  It was nice…seeing the children all so happy like this.
It would be nice if it would last forever.

UTAPRI DISNEYLAND HEADCANONS!
Pardon me while I indulge myself, unload my mind and project.
Warnings ahead: Extremely long post, OOC, self-indulgence, shipping mentions, rare pairs (all characters aged up but nothing nsfw is here), Disneyland ‘spoilers’ , mentions of mental illness/causes of mention illness (Reiji, Ichinose, Aine, etc), not a dark post though, fluff,
Ai:
 Mom mode activated
Everyone has specific, custom glowsticks so you can find everyone at night no problem
Also everyone has to wear GPS bracelets that allow Ai to track them in case anyone gets lost
He downloaded a mental map of the parks
Literally never lost, knows where everything is and the fastest way to get there
Faster than the Disneyland app by 73.2% (ok for real though I had almost no issues with it when i was there??)
He knows all of the secrets
 All of them
Blurts out a bunch of random trivia and info he found while researching (which makes him fun to be with!!)
Then asks why it's important and has to have it explained to him
Snacks and water every 2 hours
Natsuki:
 The actual child
Ai insisted on tethering him to a harness+leash after the aquarium fiasco
Also must have someone keeping an eye on him at all times
 Outprincesses the Princesses
 where's tinkerbell
more of a fairy than tinkerbell
goes to bibbidi bobbidi boutique and gets pixie dust (glitter) sprinkled in his hair)
 the BEST character interactions
insists on eating all the food so he can remake everything when he gets back
somehow finds his way into the kitchens and poor syo is a victim
Poses everyone before all the photos
Must go on the fastest/scariest rides 6 times in a row
Always has hands up and is laughing in every ride photo
The cutest, most magical expressions in all their pictures
Masato:
 Brought the snacks and water
Helps Ai give them out on schedule
Also has bandaids, bug spray, sunscreen, hats, sweaters, spare shoe inserts, spare clothes
Has 2 bags in bag check and carries around an oversized backpack all day
 LOTS OF BUG SPRAY
"masato there's not really a lot of bugs here"

Video calls with Mai so she can see!!
 Holds Ai's hand during fireworks
Syo:
 we'RE noT taKinG breAkS
 he has this D O W N
 he trained for this
he made everyone else train for this
This boy is getting everything done.  Everything.
Fainted when he realized how much there was to do
Probably asked for Ai's help to make a schedule so they could get everything done
Is the first to deviate from the schedule the minute they're through the gates
 Designated FastPass runner
 Coordinated everybody else's outfits
"do you think we can get on a parade float"

reluctant to leave at mid-day squad
later really glad they left mid-day and is happy to sit by the pool squad
Otoya:
Absolutely the most excited for the trip until they got there
 Is now overwhelmed
 Really interested in the music
Seriously he pays attention to everything in the background and hums it the entire time
He's so inspired for new songs now
 Designated photographer
 All his photos are blurry
CARS LAND!!!!!
Winds up just running for FastPasses with Syo instead
(i got kinda shippy with syo/otoya on ideas but ill resist)
Ichinose:
Pulled more allnighters than necessary (sometimes with Ren) to plan and book everything but nobody knows how much they put into it
Original daily routines, flights, reservations, packing lists, everything was started by him and Ren (until Ren started to favor sleep after two weeks)
At first it’s all super simple but then he starts overcomplicating it and when he's in the thick of it he can't stop and has to solve every potential problem
 (no problems wind up happening)
Reiji discovers him one night and shuts it down (and then took over/shifted some stuff to Ai who would be better suited)
He and Masato were then in charge of buying items for the trip but Masato started overplanning/over worrying so he took over
Park bags? Got them. Ponchos? Thank him. Waterproof phone protectors? You got it. Chargers? Lots! Trading pins? Preordered online
Also really thinks hard about everybody's individual needs and concerns and is worried about everyone not having the best time ever
 This boy is S O  F T
He was also in charge of meal plans (until they got to the park and Ranmaru started hearing about all the food and took over)
This boy has not slept since they first decided they were going and hasn't done a single thing he wanted to do the entire time they're there
So crowds are a thing and he's now crashing
Reiji pulls him aside and they wander off to get some drinks and probably to Tom Sawyer's Island (very quiet! beautiful nature views!) and just... be in Disneyland
Really deep conversations while looking into New Orleans!
They ride the Mark Twain together and drive the boat too!!
Reiji takes him through all the shops on Main Street and they spend hours in the art gallery
Also they sit on the disneyland railroad and just go around the park 400 times? (he likes the parts in Splash Mountain, also the show scenes)
He and Reiji get caught in one of the 'bandit' shows where their train is 'robbed'. He's annoyed at first but has fun.
Is now just the designated ticket/pass/autograph book holder. Probably safely storing everyone's passports in his luggage too.
Camus:
Does not appear interested in this adventure. At all.
Until one night he orders Cecil awake at 3AM to do a bunch of research for him and does not say why
Nobody finds out until the day of, but he's upgraded EVERYTHING. First class jet, upgraded rooms, premium viewing for shows, etc
Probably managed to book an entire section of the park (or even an entire park) for the group
Also he just wanted information on every treat in the area
 He wants to try EVERYTHING
He knows where all the best sweets are (don’t be fooled a lot of the food/treats are d i s g u s t i n g) and all the specials for the season
Contacted ahead of time to have special treats made for each of them that represent them and are then delivered during their dinner as a surprise
Do it right or not at all
 Don't half-ass things
This means nothing. I care about none of you
 "peasants"
 he's smiling
reluctant to leave at mid-day squad
later really glad they left mid-day and is happy to sit by the pool
Cecil:
 "whats that"
 O H
 NOW HE'S VERY EXCITED
Marathoned every movie  EVERY movie for months with everyone
TAKE THIS BOY TO THE PARADES
 ALSO ON THE TEACUPS
ALSO MUSICAL CHAIRS WITH ALICE AND HATTER
thinks the princesses are actually princesses
 charms them all
Was not amused at waking up so early and obeying Camus but learned a lot and is surprisingly well-versed in the park
Knows where everything is and what everyone is doing at every point in time
"has anyone seen x it's been 4 hours" yes he knows where they are
Also Ai would wake up halfway through his planning sessions and stumble across Cecil and they'd wind up planning together
Really cute early morning planning sessions before work
Cecil falls asleep on Ai’s shoulder
This is when he finds out about Ai
He changes into full-on rainsuit for water rides 'for ai's sake' and makes ai do it too (ai is confused)
He and Ai huddle together under an extremely oversized raincoat (or refuse to get on water rides altogether)
But if they're getting splashed he dramatically sacrifices himself for Ai
reluctant to leave at mid-day squad
later really glad they left mid-day and is happy to sit by the pool nap squad
So inspired by all the lights and costumes
STARISH is now getting led costumes
Also quick-change costumes (tear-away to reveal a second outfit!)
Skipping/running EVERYWHERE
singing the entire time
Ren:
This boy takes forever to get ready in the morning
But he’s one of the first awake and helps Ai & Masato to parent everyone out of bed
There’s an ongoing joke that the three of them are married
Maybe they are
Did so much more for this trip than anyone realizes
Suggests they split off several times during the day so everybody can enjoy what they want to
Probably winds up taking over photos after seeing Otoya's
 They're much better
Insists on hiring professional photographer though
Don't tell anybody but he pulled all-nighters to get things planned out with Ichinose
Coralls everybody in for the afternoon breaks
“Time to relax in the pool” initiation squad
“yes you have to shower before we go back”
really glad they left mid-day and is happy to sit by the pool squad
Reiji:
"we're riding indiana jones ten times in a row kids" take me with you
 haw yee
This boy has the most flamboyant hats and you can spot him from a mile away
the worst for being tacky
But also at the same time really charming and cute somehow??
But don’t tell him!
Doesn't voice anything he wants to do, wants everyone else to have the best time.
Insists on surprise kiss pictures with everyone
Scrapbooks everything at the end of the trip because it was some of the best memories he had with everyone
he probably cries over the pictures because they mean a lot to him
Ai finds out about the scrapbook and helps out
Is surprised for the following Christmas when everyone pulled together to make matching sweaters & ornaments for the whole group for a group picture for Reiji’s sake
It’s now a tradition
It’s his favourite tradition
Ranmaru:
 Here for the food
 Or so he thinks
Winds up liking the rides a lot though
Probably the one everyone hangs onto when they're scared
super protective of ai on rides
throws himself over ai on several occasions to prevent him from getting wet
this is a good boy. ty for protecting the precious robot
Last to wake up and first to head home but b o y does he have the most fun
hell to pay the one day masato forgot to pack a banana
masato still feels bad
(reiji to the rescue to prevent meltdown though)
unintentional cat naps with cecil during the mid-day breaks
either they’re cuddling
or cecil wanted to watch a movie and they wound up falling asleep while ranmaru was playing with cecil’s hair
he didn’t realize he swears
he just missed relaxing with a cat
cecil says nothing
Bonus!
Aine:
at the bottom of the finding nemo ride
 bye

This Is Me Letting You Go - Letter #3: I didn’t know how to put myself back together after that [Grayson Mini-Series]
Hey guys! Part three is here, what what! Sorry I’m embarrassing. The feedback that i’m getting from you guys is incredible. I’m so glad you guys are liking this mini series. I can’t wait to see your reaction for part three!
There will be moments where there are flashbacks. Those will be in bold. There will also be foreshadowing in this part and it will be italicised bold. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Dear Grayson,
Before you put these down, you should know we are getting close to the end of these letters. And I know, you’re probably thinking that this is all wrong. You’re probably thinking about what these letters could mean. Or, you’re probably thinking to come and find me to clear all this out; but like I said in the previous letter, wait until you’re completely done with all of them okay? I need you to wait.
In the last letter I said I had realized you and I were a ticking time bomb; and trust me, waiting for our time to run out was one of the most stressful and heartbreaking things I’ve ever experienced. But let me explain HOW I reached that conclusion about us.
One word to explain our time together after you got back would be “bittersweet”. I loved having you back for good. Days without you had been so boring and dull. Which is why I was always so happy when it was time for our daily facetime calls, and no matter what time it was, I was there waiting to hear about your day. But the happiness I felt then didn’t compare to the one I felt after being back in your arms once again. It felt like I was back home, back where I belonged.
Can you say that Grayson? Can you say you felt like you were back where you belonged when in my arms? Before you answer “yes”, I really want you to think about it. Because I know for a fact that you can’t. You can’t say “yes”. And this is why.
In the last letter, I told you I had decided to brush off all the thoughts I had of you and Amber being more than “just close friends”. I brushed off the gut feeling that was telling me there was more there because I thought I was overthinking everything. You were back from tour for good, which to me meant that our break would soon be over. You and I would go back to normal, we would be us again. Sadly, that’s not how things went, right Grayson?
Because there is one specific moment where I already knew... You weren’t sure about us Gray. You weren’t sure about what you wanted or who you wanted. That moment was on December 16th, 2016. Yes, you and Ethan’s birthday. I remember running around all day with your mom and Cam, getting everything ready for your birthday dinner. No, it wasn’t going to be some huge birthday party, just a small family get together for you guys. I was excited to celebrate another one of your birthdays with you, because that day meant so much to me already; and making new memories with you on your special day once again made it that much more special.
I even helped your mom cook! Which was a pretty exciting moment for me because she trusted me with your favorite meal and it came out delicious. I keep laughing at the memory of how happy you were once you tried it. You looked at me in a way that showed you were so surprised, so happy, but most of all, so in love. Even now I wish I could go back to that day, just to have you look at me that way one last time.
But after dinner, we decided to sit around the fire with the rest of your family. After being on tour for so long, they all wanted to be filled in on what happened during it. What places did you visit? How did you feel while traveling the world? Every little detail. I had been looking forward to listening to every story you and Ethan would tell, and I did enjoy them; I just didn’t expect for there to be so many stories to tell between you and Amber as well.
If I’m being honest, hearing about all those moments you two shared made my heart hurt in a way it never had before. And it wasn’t because I was envious of all the times you two had shared, but because of the way you looked at each other while you told them. It’s like with each memory you two shared with us, it took you both back to those days and reminisce instead of being here with us; here with me. But I brushed it off, again, and decided to live in the moment with you.
So when the topic of conversation switched to us, I felt relieved in a way. I had expected to get the answers I needed for all of my worries to vanish. I had expected for you to reassure everyone, including me, that you and I were back together; no questions asked. But again, I was wrong.
“I’m so glad you boys had the chance to explore the world while doing what you both love! I’m so proud of you both”
I nodded in agreement with Grandma Dolan and gave both boy’s hands a squeeze, a proud smile evident on my face. They had come so far and accomplished so much, I couldn’t be more proud of them.
“And I’m proud of you Y/N” she added. I looked over to her confused and waited for her to continue. “Lisa told me you helped her cook Grayson’s favorite today, it was mouthwatering!”
“Actually, I didn’t help at all. Y/N cooked it alone!”
I couldn’t help but look down as Lisa gushed about my cooking, my cheeks turning a light shade of pink. I felt Grayson wrap his arm around my shoulder and pull me closer as he gave me a peck on the side of my head, my cheeks suddenly turning a darker shade of pink. I looked up at him only to find him already looking down at me with a goofy smile on his face; making the butterflies in my stomach go wild.
“Look at you love birds!” Grandma Dolan exclaimed.
“Does this mean you two are finally back together? I mean, it’s not like Ethan and I placed a bet on it or anything” Cameron asked.
At first I laughed at Cam’s question but it died down once I looked over to Grayson and saw him struggling to answer her question.
“Who’s up for s’mores?” we heard Sean say as he approached us with all the ingredients.
My attention never wandered from Grayson though, and it hurt to see the look of relief on his face when the conversation was interrupted. What hurt me the most though, was to see him look at Amber for a split second before looking away and letting go of his hold on me while looking for a way to answer the question.
So I put on my best fake smile that was able to fool everybody, or so I thought, and excused myself from the group. I didn’t expect for Ethan to see through my facade. I didn’t expect for him to be the one to follow me into the house.
And when he asked me if I was okay, I tried to put on that fake smile once again and assure him that I was. But I couldn’t. For some reason, I couldn’t fake it in front of Ethan. So instead, I cried. I let out all of the sadness, all of the hurt, and all of the disappointment I was feeling in that moment.
Tumblr media
I cried so much that night Gray. Not only because I realized that you had doubts about us but because I realized then, that even though a part of you still loved me, you didn’t love me as much as you used to. You didn’t love me as much as I loved you, not anymore. That is the harsh truth that I had tried so hard to avoid, the harsh truth I didn’t wanted to accept.
You want to know another painful realization I had that night? While making my way back into the house, the one I had wanted to come after me was you. The one I wanted there to console me was you. The one I wanted there while the tears were falling nonstop was you. And it hurt so much when I saw it wasn’t, because a part of me had hoped you would come after me and tell me that you were sorry. That you didn’t have doubts about us, that you wanted us together again.
I didn’t want to accept that our story was coming to an end, Grayson. But keeping myself fooled into thinking otherwise wouldn’t have been fair to me. And what happened on Christmas Day wasn’t fair to me either and you know it, because I made a promise to myself the night of your birthday. I made a promise to myself that I would let you go and until then, it was working to plan. But you noticed the distance I put between us and you weren’t having it were you?
“Y/N tell me what I did, please” Grayson pleaded, “I can’t stand feeling like I’m losing you and not knowing why”
I wanted to push him away and tell him that I needed him to stay away from me. I wanted to tell him how much pain he’s been causing me. Tell him that I needed to let him go but for some reason, nothing came out. Instead, I kept my eyes on him as he placed his hands on my waist, closing the distance between us until we were only centimeters apart. I felt myself growing more and more vulnerable under his touch, because no matter how hard I tried to fight it, my heart still belonged to him. I still loved him.
And it was on that Christmas Day, that you finished breaking apart the little pieces I had of me left. I know you saw the pain in my eyes in that moment, I know you saw how vulnerable I was, but it didn’t stop you. You left me completely broken, and it scared me to realize that I didn’t know how to put myself back together after that.
-Y/N
Reminder! The last part in italicized bold is foreshadowing! hehehehe hope you enjoyed!
