Since everyone’s jumping on the “Chris is trash” bandwagon…

I greatly dislike that lil fucker

LMAO.

Now, let me explain myself, because tbh I haven’t seen anyone really delve into why they hate him, at least not in detail.

In this post I’m going to go over the positive and negative points of Chris’s character. It’s a little messy because it’s 12am and I’m not going to edit it. I’ll be looking at him through the POV of actual character writing and not just his yucky icky grossness /lh

I’m not gonna close my eyes & ears and say “he’s bad!”, I acknowledge he has good traits. That make him an interesting character. I’ll start with the traits I find enduring about Chris.

Let’s begin!

Chris and Sonic (+ Positives)

The fact they made Chris rich stood out to me. The point of human characters in these series (SonicX, Transformers, etc.) is so the kid watching can relate to that character (ironically most of these shows don’t pull this off - I’ll explain why in a little bit). So they can put themselves in that persons shoes and say “That’s like me! I could do that!”, an audience stand-in. Let’s be honest, most kids aren’t rich, so this isn’t a very relatable trait.

The point of Chris (besides being a stand-in) is to mirror and contrast Sonic to a certain degree. Sonic is confident being alone - he enjoys it! We see him at several points throughout the series avoiding being around others. Instead we see Sonic napping, exploring, running, or just relaxing. Sonic is comfortable with himself, he doesn’t need the approval of others and doesn’t care what they think. Sonic does things his way, and that’s that.

Chris, on the other hand, craves social interaction. They made him a rich, spoilt, self-centred kid. But they also made him incredibly lonely. Chris doesn’t really have people in his life who he can connect with, he’s an only child who lives in a massive mansion (seriously, that thing is HUGE!) but he is incredibly neglected emotionally. Yes, he has maids and butlers, but a maid and butler simply do not have the same connection to Chris as a parental figure would. This goes for his friends and grandfather, too. Despite the people around him, he aches for his parents attention. Chris is a sheltered and lonely kid, who has a pretty different view on the world than you or I would. Chris has people going to him at all times, trying their bests to please him, so it’s no surprise that he is pretty selfish.

Both Sonic and Chris have a love for nature and want to do good for it. For Chris this is shown in two episodes especially: Episode 1, where he rushes down from his room to save what he thinks is a cat from drowning. Again in the Episode The Dam Scam. Tails asks what Chris wants to be, to which he replies a zoologist.

Tails: Thanks. So what do you think you wanna do when you're older?

Chris: Well, I... I really want to study zoology... I think. Grandpa and my dad want me to really like building machines, just like they do. But since I met you guys, I figured I'm more interested in animals than machines.

Chris goes out of his way to help the cast in whatever way he can - even if he ends up getting captured etc. I’ll go into the negatives later, though. The point is that he is determined and wants to help others. He has his own motivations seperate to Sonic.

Before Sonic can leave with the rest of his friends, Chris is suddenly overcome with the fear of being alone again. He feels as though Sonic was a consistent person in his life - sure, he has friends, but he never really connected with them in the same way he connected with Sonic. Sonic is a person Chris feels like he can truly rely on. A big brother, a best friend, just someone cool and inspiring. He doesn’t want to lose that, so he closes the portal before sonic can enter.

After this, Chris begins to feel really guilty about his decision, and asks Sonic why he chose to stay with him.

I feel like this is one of the most important moments for Chris in Sonic X. This scene resonated with me, and a lot of other people. I’m a little too tired to analyse this scene in it’s entirety, but I feel like everything that needs to be said is in the video.

Why I hate Chris Thorndyke (negatives)

Now that I’ve acknowledged he has good traits and the writing in his character is at least decent, I can go into why I hate him.

I’ve seen the argument that Chris is insightful for a child because of his speech to Shadow, where he convinces him not to destroy the earth and instead to help it. Such a heartwarming moment…

Except that moment wasn’t his.

That speech you hear isn’t Chris Thorndyke. It’s Amy Rose. Amy Rose is a character who consistently gets shoved to the side in a lot of series, especially in the English version of sonic X (I’ll write a whole other post for that). But the fact that they just completely took Amy away from that scene and replaced her with Chris will forever ruin him as a character for me. Which brings me into my main point:

Chris overshadows the main cast, and not in a good way.

When people call Chris useless etc. it’s not because he’s godawful in battle and constantly causes more problems than fixing them - that’s by design. It’s to make the 12 year old watching relate, right? That’s not my issue (it is but I’ll come back to that). My issue is that Chris takes roles that other characters could have easily fulfilled. The compassion and empathy that Amy Rose has is overshadowed and in some cases outright ignored in favour of Chris. The intelligence and tech-savvy, inventive abilities Tails has, coupled with his insecurities? Chris takes those, too.

My main issue with Chris Thorndyke is that he takes the roles of many other characters, and he is literally replacing them because of this. Chris needs to be his own person before I can justify him being a good character - and he simply isn’t. Chris isn’t his own character. Chris takes the roles of Amy and Tails quite often - I can’t remember the episode, but he makes some fancy shoes for sonic in season 3, Tails should have done that.

Chris needed to be his own person, he had the backstory etc. but it just wasn’t very emotionally enrapturing. I don’t think it’s because he’s rich, or he’s spoilt. I actually think it’s a very important thing for people to understand that being wealthy and having a lot of materialistic items does not make you happy. People need people, and people need structure and stability. People will do awful things out of fear, and loneliness can make you do very selfish things. These are all topics Chris Thorndyke’s character tries to convey, but his lack of personality outside of being a plot point is what ultimately makes him a bad character.

His dependence on Sonic is intentional, and while it has meaning, that meaning isn’t explored due to the nature of the show. This creates a sort of divide between the viewer and Chris. Instead of feeling like one of the main characters, he feels like a side character shoved into a main characters position. He has a backstory, he has a reason for being so dependent and insecure about his relationship with Sonic, and yet those reasons are sort of shoved to the side. I think Chris had potential to be an alright character. But due to the series inability to explore the character without Sonic around, it made him very annoying. He wasn’t important, and was often used as a plot device. Causing trouble just to move the plot along.

A character doing that isn’t entirely a bad thing, but it becomes bad when it is always one character doing it. Time and time again, Chris causes trouble for the whole cast. It’s annoying because he makes the same mistakes he always does and never really learns his lesson. Transformers has the same issue with a lot of their human characters (an exception being Transformers: Animated). In a lot of these series, the characters aren’t really… A character. They’re more like a plot decide and a microphone for the writers to use to directly convey a message they want delivered. Luckily Chris isn’t quite at that level - I digress.

All of these things are why Chris’s moment with Sonic (video linked earlier in the post) didn’t feel as impactful as it could have. I directly related to Chris once throughout the series, and it was in that campfire scene. I feel like Chris could have been completely removed from the series and a similar thing could have been done with Tails. It would have left a greater impact on the audience because Tails is an important member to the team. He brings value to it, and doesn’t actively drag it down. Chris does not work because the majority of his actions directly correlate to a setback for the main cast, the audience begins to resent him because he adds nothing substantial and meaningful to the plot, and the things he does add was at the cost of another character (referring to Chris taking the roles of Amy and Tails).

Conclusion/TLDR

I do not like Chris. His character is bland, and most of his roles could have been taken by Amy or Tails. While the idea and message that Chris carried was appealing to me, it was executed poorly because he wasn’t developed individually and had very little character growth. The campfire scene was heartwarming, but ultimately came off sort of flat and preachy due to the audience having a very small connection to him. He changes very little throughout the series, constantly puts the cast through more trouble than necessary due to idiotic actions he should have learnt from by now.

Velvet: How was it?

Sonic: This apple is the same in my world and Chris's world. It's still delicious.

Velvet: No thanks. I'm full

Sonic: Oh......

Velvet: Hmm.....You sure like the ocean.

Sonic: I'm....I'm afraid of the ocean or the sea, but it is full of adventure. I really love it. When I let myself think about what might be over the horizon...It's exciting.

Velvet: My little brother was also afraid of the ocean also loved it too.

Sonic: Your brother....?

Velvet: He would sit on the coast and just stare at it. I told him he'd catch a cold in that ocean wind, but he never listened to a word I said. You very much like him in everything. I wish we could spend more time together even though we're not blood-related.

Sonic: ............................

Velvet: Sonic. Now you can go home. Your legs were fully healed. You know you don't have to do this if you don't want to.

Sonic: Because that's why I will go with you Velvet.

Velvet: I see.....

Source Character:

Velvet was once a normal girl living in a frontier village with her brother, sister, and sister's husband, Artorius. But after the events of the Advent, she became a seeker of vengeance and enemy to the world. Her obsession with revenge left her cold and brooding, but she discovers a reason to live during her journey with her companions.

Source<==Saya Kisaragi is a shrine maiden. In her normal life, she goes to school, plays sports, hangs out at the cafe, and anything a normal teenager might do. But it’s all an act. At night, she takes up the sword and goes out to slay Elder Bairns - creatures who drink the blood of humans. She has vowed to stop the Elder Bairns and protect the people of her town, despite the fact she is incredibly bad at saving lives. Fumito Nanahara once stated to Saya that she is special to him, and that she is more important to him than thing else. After her battles, he expresses his concern towards Saya by bringing coffee and guimauve to her. Saya once questioned him about his guimauve asking if they were always pink in color — he mysteriously states it depends what is mixed in them. He is revealed to be the series main antagonist, being the one behind the experiment to see whether Saya would revert back to her previous personality. Unlike his persona in the experiment, Fumito demonstrates himself to be a sadistic and remorseless character who allows his defectors to die violent deaths while being obsessed with Saya and her abilities, but still maintaining a teasing and cordial demeanor towards her. Right after Saya kills Tadayoshi, he unleashes the Furukimono on the town before leaving in his van. When Saya tried to finish Fumito just as he was taking off in his helicopter, he shoots her in the face revealing that the guimauve she loved so much was made from all her killings before leaving her.

Explanation 7(Analysis)

Fumito: But aren't there some parts that can change, and some that can't? If we kept those but changed your birthplace, your surroundings, even your memories...if all those things changed, would you still be the same person as before?

Artorius: I see you will not change. Ever a slave to emotion.

Velvet: This is for what you did to Velvet....everyone...and Laphicet!!

Artorius: ''Why is it that birds fly?" Behold my answer, Saya. I ask no forgiveness. This sin is mine to bear.

Velvet or Demon Saya is a standoffish woman driven by vengeance. She is very cold, aloof, and brutally honest about her goals and how she views other people, and her aggressive demeanour especially ignites whenever Artorius is nearby. Saya does not care for human lives and usually acts with cool and businesslike indifference. Saya inevitably shuts herself from all other emotions, viewing them as mere obstacles that would hold her back in her goal to kill Artorius, whom she once loved and trusted. His betrayal ultimately spurred a distrust in Velvet that results in her only using people for her own advantage, initially refusing to form friendships with Laphicet, Syaoran and Sonic.

Source information: Throughout the narrative, the comb served as memory of Velvet deceased brother Laphicet, as well as her late sister Celica (in the novella). However, it could also be a foreshadowing of Velvet’s grim future from the time she was given the comb. Towards the end of the game, that comb breaking could possibly represent moving on from that grief or breaking away from her continuous suffering.

Saya's motherly nature allows her to become an older sister figure of the team, particularly to Sonic. Although Saya's rage keeps her pressing forward and fighting for the one thing she believes will deliver her resolve, she nevertheless holds to her former self in vulnerable moments, often showing a tenderness that surprises her companions, who only know her current self. While she is wracked with self-loathing, believing herself irredeemable and calling herself a "selfish, horrible girl," Saya is aware her actions and even her revenge don’t equate to justice or righteousness.

Amy: Sonic is not the type to love hugging. That's means that only those who really important to him allow to hug and touch him.

Velvet: I am really important?

Chester: He doesn't know yet Velvet...But I think he falls in love with you.

Amy’s not choosing Sonic in this situation because she’s blindly obsessed with him (because – surprise! – she’s not. She has a personality and a set of morals outside of her love for him). Amy isn’t following Sonic down a path of evil. She’s choosing Sonic because she knows that, even if Sonic’s actions are devastating (which, remember, she outright doubts), his actions are for the greater good because objectively, Sonic has a good heart and is always on the right path. Even on her own adventures, Amy knows where she wants to direct her efforts.

Amy thought of Sonic was the same way Sonic thought of Velvet. Amy understands Sonic no matter what he chooses. That's why Amy can trust Velvet because Sonic chose Velvet.

In Sonic's view, It’s her way of fighting not just for her emotions but for what she genuinely believes in that people have the right to free will and reason doesn’t just dictate all. Not because she wants revenge that badly but because it’s either that or she lies down, dies and gives up. Velvet’s strength isn’t just characterized by her Therion powers but by her sheer willpower. In Shadow the Hedgehog’s Dark Story, you fight Sonic and Diablon. Sonic blocks Shadow’s path and states that he won’t let Shadow continue his antics. Sonic does not preach or tell him what’s right or wrong. When Sonic is defeated, he merely asks what Shadow plans to do with the Chaos Emeralds. He again doesn’t preach. He’s accepted his fate that he failed to stop Shadow from destroying the Earth. Sonic focuses on freedom. Therefore, he respected people's judgment no matter how bad it was. Sonic just judges whether his feelings are right or sense.

Velvet: Don't overwork yourself.

Sonic: But....I didn't listen to you again....this is not the first time I did...

Velvet: Don't sweat it. I'm still alive thanks to you again.

Sonic: I can't let you die.....it just felt so wrong...

Velvet: I know. You are the type who doesn't trust anyone easily. I should be the one who is sorry for not listening to you. Acting the way I did. Treating you like an object.

Sonic: I know what kind of person you are but that doesn't mean you're a bad person. You are still good more than Eggman. You still gave me the freedom to choose.

Velvet: Huh....and what would you choose now? We only have more troubles ahead.

Sonic: ........You're still going to fight, aren't you?

Velvet: Yeah. I can't stop now.

Sonic: Then.....I'm coming with you as always.

Velvet: Umm......about "good more than Eggman"...what are you mean by that?

Sonic: When I was in prison for 6 months, he tortured me a lot. He taught mathematics and trained me to make robots. Taught playing games to pass various levels and taught me how to swim without even bothering me with questions. Decoe and Bocoe always support me whenever I need to learn swimming class.

Velvet: ...............(I don't think you should call that "Tortured")

Sonic: Eggman never said anything about why he did that....but he still took me to watch the sky. Eggman told me about the story of King Gilgamesh even though I don't want to know. Sometimes he said he missed someone and thank me for always being with him. Thanked Eggman for his clumsiness I guess. I finally sent the location where I prison to Shadow. And that's how

Velvet: And still.....you still forgive him?

Sonic: Forgive? Nah, never...but I just know this Eggman is a lonely guy that's all. I just always come to break his toys, for Eggman will finally forget his loneliness one day. I can't change him but at least this is what I can do as a friend enemies.

Velvet: I see.....You always see the good in people that's why You can't stop coming and choosing us. You did remain of Syaoran when he beg me to join his team.

Sonic deeply cares about his friends and will risk his life for them without any due consideration. He places everyone on the same level as him and does not show interest in treating anyone differently because of supposed superiority. Because of this, he can come across as rude to figures of authority by speaking to them informally, which often lands him in trouble. Sonic is wholesome. Velvet's heart is kind which even makes Sonic feel warm and care for her.

In Tsofph season 6 story

The main story is similar to Tales of Berseria and connects with Sonic Crowe(Tsofph Season 6) too. Velvet or Demon Saya is Yenco, a non-human that has a body like a human and has the power be able to eat dark energy, poison matter and malevolence. She was herself, with no purpose or any wish. But one day, because she met Chaos, she met Laphicet. Because of Laphicet. She finally, found her purpose to live in this world and wished for someone you want to protect. Saya knows the pain, hatred and despair but she devoured it all and made the choice to move on thanks to Syaoran and Sonic.

Velvet: There is no home for me in this world, after all, I'm a daemon

Syaoran: Velvet-san..You're so quick to accept things and resume moving forward. It's rather incredible.

Velvet: I'm merely acting of my own volition. It helps when you have others who support you. Thank you for remaining by my side, Sonic.

Sonic: I just acting of my own volition.

In Tsofph season 6, After Velvet finally found out who Sonic is. She finally found the balance between the two sides of her, becoming more kindhearted to her friends, but still holding a deep grudge towards those who wronged her. But Velvet never does manage to overcome her self-loathing due to her deep-seated remorse and shame for her actions. She will save the world from falling under Innominat's suppression together with the Syaoran group.

Sakura: Sonic. Are you okay? You look like you're not feeling well.

Sonic: I'm okay…it's just what am I?

Mokona: Oh....Turning existential!

Chester: What's that mean?

Mokona: He's starting to wonder what his place in the world is.

Chester: In that case, there's only one answer. You have to decide it.

Sonic: Huh?

Subaru: It's mean...it's all up to you. It depends on what you want.

Velvet: That's what it means to be alive. You control the wind of your life.

Sonic: Now you mention it. I still don't have any goals in my life yet. Amy wants to share the love with the world. Tails want to grow into his full potential to be able to be by my side. But.....

Syaoran: I'll protect you until you find your answer. Your artes have helped us often enough.

Sonic: Okay. I don't really understand... but thank you.

Magilou: Pretty words and all, but take care who you listen to kid. Remem.....

Leia: You're that mad scientist's spy.

Magilou: Don't scrub!!

Bouns: In Tsofph season 7 story

Shadow: Sonic only trusts Tails, his only best friend. Sonic is stubborn and never listens to anyone but himself. But he trusted you, Syaoran. Because you are an alternate version of Tails.

Syaoran: ....................

Shadow: No wonder Dr Eggman let you go, nor does it contradict your involvement in Sonic's life.

Syaoran: The dimensional witch...umm...Yuko-san once said "Same but different people" People who we've met in our original worlds. Did Sonic meet "Same but different people" and hurt them?

Shadow: He did.

"You're Tails but you're not. Here but gone?"

Sonic: That was Syaoran's memory?

Chester: You finally gain the power.....yes...those are Syaoran's memory.

"The burden is too great. In turning back time, you may be able to change the course of the princess's future. But it would also change the futures of all others involved. Especially…the futures of those who knew of the mark on the princess. And you would bear full responsibility for that."

Sonic: Chester.....you also......

Chester: I was cold more than you and have a great sin more than anyone else, even more than Sakura.

Chester: As Burklight, the reason I'm with everyone is to take revenge for Ami. I don't care about protecting the world or whatever. If I can just kill Dhaos, I'll be satisfied. Even though I knew Dhaos was not a real villain, my action was still the same as clone back then. If it's not because of Syaoran...I wouldn't be happy.

Sonic: Chester, Velvet and Shadow did the mistake once or even more because you didn't know what was going on. Like me......

Mokona: Syaoran was lonely seeing Mokona and everyone having fun when he was imprisoned. Even though he had everyone, Syaoran never forgive for what he did in the past.

Sakura: But because Syaoran met Sonic. Syaoran became more happy and more cheerful. You are also the same as me. As long as you are here you make people around you happy. That's enough.

Sonic: .......................

Tails: If I hadn't met Sonic, I might become a villain that no one would understand me.

Syaoran: Tails....why would you say something so sad...

Shadow: He's not wrong. Tails was once Dr Eggman's friend so it was natural that he would turn against the world one day. Me too...

Velvet: Kindness is the weakness. When evil or bad aura some around like the darkness, people will fall into it and no one will hear them. That's why I don't care what happens to the world, only my revenge. But I was wrong, both you and Sonic show me that kindness is not a weakness.

Syaoran: Velvet-san...

Fai: Me too.

Syaoran: Fai-san?!

Fai: Remember what Sonic-kun said? "I told you before not to burden yourself" I know both of you two had a hard time about "Same but different people" or because Syaoran-kun was the one responsible for Sonic's life. None of these is your fault or because of your action.

Syaoran: But if I.......

Shadow: Even if it is your fault, I will fight like I always have.

Fai: Yep! Right? Kuro-pon.

Tails: Also you want to meet someone who looks like Sonic too. Syaoran will find that person no matter what.

Syaoran: Yes...

Sonic: Syaoran saw me as golden king and I saw him as Tails. No matter how much I want to forget that feeling....I can't....I miss Tails my little buddy so much that time.....but now....I don't know now....

Sakura: But now.....You still want to go with us....you care for Syaoran not because he is another Tails or an alternate version of Tails. Syaoran did feel the same as you too.

Sonic: .......................he did?

Sakura: With another Sakura.

Chester: So what are you going to do now Sonic? Do you still want to fight with us?

Cream: Mr Sonic! We find another Planet!

Sonic: Obviously, I will.

Cream: Huh?

Sonic: Where's Tails and Chris?

Cream: They're outside.

Chester: Also don't forget to confess to Velvet how you love her okay?

Sonic: Chester!!! I didn't...!!

Velvet: You're a bad actor you know.

Punch: How did you know?

Velvet: Your eyes....blue eyes are the same colour as Sonic. You two are the same. Sonic told everyone that you're your real brother in blood but now I finally know what's going on.

Velvet: I love Sonic so I can tell. You and Sonic are the same that's why you two had the same existences. And that existence did affect both you and Laphi.

Punch: ..................

Velvet: Your hands were shaking. You're lying. You want to save him.

Punch: I see.....I forgot about you.....You love him the same way as Peter loves me.....that's why I can't hide the truth behind you. Then I won't fight you then. You know Sonic love himself....aren't you?

Velvet: Uhm

Punch: So Sonic will find out what I was planning soon. Actually, I don't want to fight because you are Mom's Material. I love Mom material like you so much.....my feeling now...I don't know if this was real or not. Even though we did meet for so long. I still love you just like a part of my family.

Gilgamesh: Aaannnnddd......That's how you feel about her.

Punch: Yes.......

Gilgamesh: Next time, don't tell her what you feel okay? She will figure out about me too....geez.

Peter: At least she'll figure out how you love to take a nap and.......Ouch!!!!

Gilgamesh: Shut up. Only Enkidu and you know about me and only me!

— on sonic’s cunning. a note on innate charisma.

||. sonic doesn’t consider himself especially smart , nor does he consider himself especially analytical. those traits are reserved for people like tails and amy , who take the time to be slow and look at all the angles. (which sonic does quite naturally, actually. he makes a surprisingly good leader and battle strategist when he needs to , especially when it comes to factoring himself and his strengths and weaknesses alongside those of his friends. )

sonic doesn’t consider himself smart ... but he does consider himself CUNNING. STREET SMART , if you will , and he relies on this cunning to get himself in and out of situations. in truth it’s almost eerily fox-like , the lengths sonic could go to to get his way. if sonic really wanted to , with his natural charm , innate charisma and ever-present “cool factor” about him, he could swindle a person out of their entire life’s savings and they’d be thanking him for it.

fact is that sonic is actually quite addictive a character. his natural calm-under-fire demeanor grants him , as stated , a sort of “cool factor” about him. people WANT to earn his respect because he makes little attempt to hide the fact that his respect (and trust) will not come easily. he’s incredibly CHARMING to boot , and that makes people want to become his friend. for better or worse , people WANT to be noticed by sonic the hedgehog , even when he’s not especially willing to give undue attention or praise. (and this is something that permeates even his closest friendships. re: sonic and tails, sonic and amy.)

the truth of the matter is he’s actually quite PERSUASIVE. and this , when it goes untempered , can actually lead into a very natural , semi-unconscious sort of manipulation. to pull an example from canon source material to better explain my point: SONIC X S1E20 “CRUISE BLUES” does a fantastic job of illustrating exactly what i mean from a manipulative standpoint.

in this episode , be it with tails or amy ( ironic that it’s the 2 most susceptible to the ‘cool factor’ thing expressed earlier ) sonic is able to very swiftly and easily pinpoint weak points in both of his friends and exploit them. ie: tails’ affection for his machines + being eight years old and thus very susceptible to being told that the machines have feelings and miss him while tails is gone. and with amy.... using her affections for him ( and in part , his own affections for her if we wanna read into this given the actual rest of the show ) to get her to swing her hammer around like a mad-lady. AND ALL OF THIS so he can try to manipulate chris and chuck into turning the whole boat around so he can get off the water.

( we can talk about how they shouldn’t have brought him on the cruise in the first place and then proceeded to ignore his clear discomfort in favor of getting him to ‘relax’ and that making a very clear statement to sonic that they’re not going to listen to him asking nicely - because yknow. THEY DIDN’T — a different time but even without that particular detail and its context it wouldn’t really be especially relevant anyways. )

POINT BEING: sonic has the capacity to bend his morals around and become incredibly manipulative. especially when he feels backed into a corner like on the cruise. he actually also uses this manipulative factor on the daily in smaller doses. things like deflecting during a conversation and managing to turn it around on the person he’s talking to without them ever noticing. (tails in particular is susceptible to this via ‘big brother rights’ treatment.) or otherwise just keeping everyone at arm’s length and not letting them in.

unless his mental state is Just That Bad , or he’s otherwise Off His Game (or he WANTS you to know) you would never know. sonic is able to keep an almost IMMACULATE control of himself , his conversations and the situations he’s presented.

pair that with his incredible emotional intelligence , that he IS in fact , quite smart and analytical and can use details nobody else picks up on to get the upper hand , and then his own innate charm and “cool factor” and you’ve got a recipe for ... honestly some pretty morally grey interactions.

Alright, new Trailer dropped and there's a little more to talk about.

Mario's voice...is clearly not being fixed, so I'm gonna have to get over it. Hearing more of it, it's...acceptable. Not good, but it is what it is.

I love Donkey Kong's design though! His design has been translated so damn well for the movie! He looks amazing! Nothing to say on his voice, if he even talks and not just grunts and makes noises.

And look at this! A gladiator battle on top of a red gurder/ladder jungle gym set-up! It's an awesome set-up! It's kind of a shame we see Mario get his ass beat.

And I love Cranky Kong here. He's getting his due. Look at that swagger.

And now for the difinitive critique on Luigi's voice. It's...honestly exactly what everyone thought he'd sound like. Honestly, it's just Charlie Day being Charlie Day. It's exactly what my friend said he'd sound like, it's what YouTube thought he'd sound like; this isn't Luigi, it's Charlie Day.

And...it kinda works?

Like, maybe it's just the delivery, but Charlie Day's voice fits for Luigi better than Chris Pratt's voice does Mario. Maybe it's because as real people, Charlie's able to deliver a very funny voice. Luigi's in peril, but you I can't help but snicker a bit at the voice. It fits pretty well.

And now it's time for Peach, and...I'm gonna be honest, I'm kinda split.

Like the Mario Bros., it's just Anya Taylor-Joy is Anya Taylor-Joy, but the voice is perfectly fine. It's more on the side of Luigi than Mario, where the voice isn't what I'd want, but it's perfectly fine and fits the character. Then again, Peach, although has a recognizeable voice, I feel has a little more leeway than the two brothers.

And the part that makes me a little worried.

From what we see in the trailer, it seems like Peach is gonna be a super competent warrior princess. Which is fine, I didn't have a problem. In fact, I thought this was so damn cool! Seeing her kick up that axe and snatch it was so clean!

BUT, she doesn't feel like Peach. She's not the bubbly Princess we've always known who knows how to roll up her sleeves and get to business.

I'd say she's Strong Female Character #774, BUT her being competent and not the same as her game coutnerpart isn't enough for me to write her off. It just feels like Peach's traditionally fem traits are being written out for her character here.

And it's a shame, because Peach in the Nintendo Power Super Mario Adventures comic was a badass, but still felt like Peach.

Here's hoping I'm just being overly critical and that the movie is a good spin on the Mario Mythos, much like how the Sonic Movie(s) are a good spin(dash) on the Sonic Mythos.

Reactions As I Read: ● while I wish Slott's stories got a little deeper (such as what 10 years of near solitary confinement should have done to Cindy Moon's psyche, etc.), he does do a good job with the light-hearted, flippant side of things

● "…staying with Peter is not an option. Not when every time we're together we act like teenagers on prom night." -- no. worse. you act much worse than that. it was amusing at first but it lost its novelty real fast. ● are we critiquing what Silk wears just because she's a woman? either way, it prompts her to try something else, so we'll see how that looks when it's revealed here in a min. ● ok, who's this baby, then? ● a henchman with a change of heart. huh. ● ok, Silk's new costume looks pretty good. at least it doesn't look like it'll fall off her at any moment. ● so how did the baby get in the cocoon? is this a case of "I should have remembered what happened in the last issue"? because… ADHD. ● aww, Big Brother Spider-Man is kinda adorbs ● o_o oh my… the henchman is Clayton Cole/Clash?? wow. nice.

● aww, Spidey gave Cole a business card to Parker Industries. I hope Cole makes good on his second chance. it's an all-too-real glimpse at the struggles people with a record face.

● ok, new story. Earth-982. Mayday Parker. oof, a gut-punch already. ● 👏👏👏👏

Synopsis: As Spidey battles Dr. Minerva, he sees how Kamala is frozen in shock since she still lacks the experience for this kind of situation. He appeals to her fandom for Carol in order to snap her out of the shock by using the "Slingshot" maneuver he created with Carol. Kamala wants to keep fighting, suggesting they try a "Fastball Special" next, but Spidey tells her that they must focus on retrieving the cocoon. As they approach, one of the thugs complains that he accepted the job because Minerva wasn't an enemy of Spider-Man (since he refuses to take any jobs that involves Spider-Man), but takes advantage of the situation so he can modify his Sonic Scanner into a weapon. Spidey and Kamala try to escape with the cocoon, but Kamala's size makes her an easy target, and as she fights against Minerva the cocoon starts to hatch.

Meanwhile, as Cindy Moon ponders on her rent status, she is called to assist Natalie Long at the Fact Channel. Natalie reviews the battle between Silk and Electro and considers making her their "exclusive" just like the Bugle did with Spider-Man, but criticizes Silk's outfit as tacky. Just as Natalie gets a report on two crimes, one being Spidey's battle, Cindy escapes to deal with the other situation, determined to become the Fact Channel's exclusive by making herself a new outfit.

The cocoon hatches revealing a seemingly human baby inside, which Kamala takes to keep him safe while Spidey battles Minerva. The henchmen take down Kamala while she keeps the baby safe, but as she confronts them one of the henchmen turns against the rest, showing moral qualms about attacking someone carrying a baby. The henchman takes off his mask so that he won't scare the baby and then joins Spider-Man, who explains that Kamala knows everything about the Kree thanks to her knowledge of Carol Danvers, while the henchman is a local. This prompts Spidey to ask Minerva if she is indeed working for the Kree Empire, since it's rare that she's using local people instead of Kree Soldiers, and Minerva insists that her activities are fully sanctioned by the Kree Empire. Spidey fakes a call to Jarvis in Avengers Tower to ask the Kree if they know about Minerva's activities in order to call her bluff, which succeeds, forcing her her escape the site.

At the other robbery site, The Ringer attempts to escape, only to be taken down quickly by Silk, making her first appearance in her new outfit in front of Natalie Long and the cameras of the Fact Channel, saying that it was time for a change.

Spidey and Kamala bring the baby to the hospital so he can be taken care of with his parents. Kamala worries since they don't know what powers she might have, but Spider-Man insists that they love her and that will be a good start. He says he has to leave to make an alert at Avengers Tower about Minerva and compliments Kamala, seeing a reflection of his past self when he was a teenage superhero dealing with the double life. He encourages her, saying that she'll do fine, then confronts the henchman, who swears that he was trying to find legit work but nobody wants to hire a man with a criminal record since juvie, only to be stunned when Spidey recognizes him as Clayton Cole, his first rival, formerly known as Clash, which surprised Clayton. Spidey sees that Clayton really wants to go straight and change his life, but no one wants to hire a man with "Supervillain since fifteen" on their resume, so he gives him a card from Parker Industries, claiming that Parker believes in second chances and to tell him he sent him. He takes it and by the next day he is officially hired into Peter's company. Peter reflects that his company now gives him great power and great responsibility to help depower and reform former villains.

One of the funniest things to happen in Sonic X is Sonic falling onto his knees, desperately begging for a helicopter to come back, and this helicopter leaving is what causes him to do a complete personality switch.

He starts to emotionally manipulate his little brother into thinking his plane has feelings and misses him, which works so he then emotionally manipulates Amy by making her believe he has feelings for her.

Keep in mind he does this being 100% aware Amy is in love with him and that he doesn’t actually return any of these feelings, but he’s so desperate that he’s trying everything he can. He goes to tell Chris and Chuck that Amy and Tails have gone crazy completely randomly and without reason, and smirks like a little shit when he hears his plan is actually working, they even animate his ear moving as he listens to Chuck and Chris talk. Just when things are going Sonic’s way, Amy and Cream walk into the room and expose that Sonic told Amy he has feelings for her, which tells Chris and Chuck that Sonic’s responsible for what has transpired recently.

Not wanting to face the consequences for his actions, Sonic literally crawls out of the frame thinking he’s got off scot-free. But he also forgets this is literally Amy, so once she finds out he was lying to her she immediately goes into kill mode and in response Sonic literally cowards on the top of a pole bc he knows he’s aboutta die.

Amy does manage to knock him off the pole and, instead of running away like he usually would, Sonic just lets her angrily sit on him bc he rlly just accepted his fate like that.

Why did he do all this? Because nobody once thought putting Sonic the Hedgehog on a literal boat in the middle of the ocean was a bad idea.

I’m sorry but this has to be said. Sonic in Sonic X makes me so fucking mad. Let me explain.

Sonic in Sonic X really rubs me the wrong way.. Sonic(Like in a lot of his versions) is some what stuck up, very prideful, humorous, etc. etc. but something that bugs me is he’s kinda an asshole to his friends and shows little empathy or care. Example, in season 2(I believe) Tails, Amy and Chris crash in the Torando X after getting signals that there might be a chaos emerald. Now I haven’t watched the episode in a hot minute, but Sonic is only worried about Chris. Don’t get me wrong I like Chris. But Sonic shows little to no empathy for Tails or Amy, not even asking if he’s okay. Compare this to Sonic Boom. In the very first episode, the conflict is Tails is fired from being a side kick. Wanna know why? Because Sonic was worried that Tails might get hurt and he did. Tails got knock out and was out for at least a day or two. Sonic told Tails to bail just in case he would get hurt and as soon as Tails crashed Sonic rushed over.. This leads to Sonic firing him and looking for a new sidekick later learning Tails was the best he could ask for. Also in Sonic Adventures or Sonic The Hedgehog(RIP where ever it may be) Sonic activity worries about Tails whenever Tails gets in these kinda situations where he could be hurt. Sonic in Sonic X gives little to no shits and Tails is suppose to be his best friend.

Now you might argue, “well Sonic cared a lot about Tails in the Season 3 finale.” Well yes.. But no. There is one episode I remember where Cosmo and Tails got trapped in a cave and that’s the only time I remember Sonic Actively worrying about Tails. But at the end when Cosmo basically dies. Tails is destroyed by this because he really liked- no loved Cosmo. Now I know the Japanese version, Sonic feels like he’s failed Tails and Tails blamed him and he stands there taking it in because he feels the same and such. That I find truly beautiful. BUT! I’m not Japanese and I don’t speak it so- I’m focused on the English version :) I would say Sonic Fails.. But he doesn’t even attempt to comfort Tails. He just leaves him there.. it just really aggravates me, even Chris showed more compassion to Tails then Any time Sonic did and I was sourly disappointed considering Tails is my favorite.

It’s a big reason I really like Sonic Boom compared to where Sonic X failed to show how much Sonic cares for Tails, Sonic Boom made up in. Sonic was seriously a big brother to Tails. I already mentioned the first episode, but one of my favorite episodes is when Sonic and the team joins the circus. Well expect Tails. Sonic and the gang are fighting Eggman when Tails wants to try his new gadget. Tails gadget ends up failing and endangering the others. The others grow mad while Sonic is trying to defend Tails. Telling the others, “it isn’t Tails fault.” But Tails feels defeated in himself and flies off, promising not to come back until it’s fixed. While flying off Sonic is calling Tails asking him if he was okay and if he wanted to talk but Tails Ignores him and leaves Sonic calling for Tails. And through out the episode Sonic keeps trying to contact Tails only to get no response, each time becoming disappointed. Until the end where Tails saves the other and Sonic just has a full proud brother moment and it’s one of my favorite episodes. Another episode is the “Anything you can do I can do better.” Where Eggman challenges Tails to capture Sonic. Tails agrees. I’m not a fan of this episode just cause I’m not a fan of it. Not really any particular reason. But it really shows how great of a relationship they have. They really do love each other like brothers and I adore it. Also, Alone Again, Unnaturally. They have such a sibling relationship and I love it. They have their moments and also truly care for one another. In the first flash black, And they’re reviewing the footage, Sonic glances annoyed at Tails and Tails just grins and says “you know what they say, no pain no gain” and it’s just a brilliant way to show their friendship. And Tails even goes on the other plane to save Sonic even though he knows it’s not safe. Then at the end Sonic is so proud of Tails for having his back the whole time and I love it.

X-Men Abridged: 1979

The X-Men, those globe-trotting mutants that have sworn to protect a world that hates and fears them, are a cultural juggernaut with a long, tangled history. Want to unravel this tapestry? Then read the Abridged X-Men!

So, these things have been getting longer. Whoops.

Last year, plotlines tended to bleed over in one another, but this year is a lot more arc-based, jumping from location to location. This is basically X-Men: World Tour. After hitting Antarctica and the Savage Land, our team of merry mutants visits Japan, Canada, Egypt, Scotland and even a theme park! (And really, both Murder World and Disney Land are run by capitalist scumbags who pretend to be in it for the art, the only difference being that Arcade purposefully murders his guests.)

But, before we check in with the X-Men, we return to the Institute. See, there’s a mutual misunderstanding that wouldn’t be out of place in a Shakespearian tragedy: Jean and Charles think Beast and Jean were the only survivors of their fight with Magneto in Antarctica, while the rest of the X-Men believe they were the only survivors and Jean and Beast perished. Since the X-Men have been trapped in the Savage Land, nobody has been able to clear up the confusion.

With their grief driving a wedge between her and Charles, Jean leaves the mansion to deal with her feelings on her own. (She’ll end up on Muir Isle.)

This is adorable! And, if the whole "Empress of the known Universe "-thing blows up in her face, she can always become a barista at Starbucks. (X-Men 117)

Lilandra successfully persuades Xavier to leave Earth as her consort, now that there is nothing left for him. Xavier agrees, but not before having a flashback to the time he met another telepath named Amahl Farouk in Egypt. (The Shadow King isn’t relevant just yet, but he’ll become an important villain later on.)

The X-Men, meanwhile, cross a treacherous ocean on a raft and are picked up by a Japanese vessel. The Japanese do not allow them to call anyone, for some reason. Sure. When they finally dock in Japan - six weeks later - some arms dealer named Magnum Moses has put Agarishima is on fire. Like, literally an inferno of such big proportions that even Storm can’t do much.

What follows is an uninspired, slipshod adventure. For some reason, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing are there too, because the president needed American detectives to investigate Magnum Moses (?) and for some reason, Misty doesn’t know Jean thinks Scott is dead, nor does she mention she just saw Jean to Scott. AUGH. It will take almost a year for Scott to figure out Jean isn’t dead and it becomes increasingly more contrived. I get that Claremont needed to isolate Jean to make her susceptible to, er, a certain someone’s machinations, but holy fuck do I have to suspend my disbelief for all of this bullshit.

The only good things about this little arc are:

Sunfire is still a dick.

Wolverine meets Mariko Yashida, a Japanese girl who actually reciprocates his feelings, as opposed to Jean. I’ve mostly been ignoring his budding feelings for Jean, because I stopped finding love triangles interesting since I was 16 and watched The OC, so I can only applaud this development. Mariko brings out Wolverine’s soft side and it’s very adorable. Later on, she moves to NYC for some reason and they start dating.

There is something sweetly disarming about calling Wolverine ‘beautiful’. (X-Men 120)

Anyway, Magnum is holding Japan hostage: either they give him what he wants - I think that might be money, sorry, wasn't paying attention - or he sinks Japan by activating the fault lines and you guys, I am sooo bored. Unsurprisingly, the X-Men stop him and for once, it’s Banshee who gets to play the most important part.

It’s a good thing I was terrible at science, otherwise I might have to point out that earthquakes and sonic waves don’t work that way! I simply get to be entertained by little rascal Colossus, plugging his ears like a toddler, and Sunfire’s gritty determination to not be impressed by some silly screaming Irishman. (X-Men 119)

Banshee pays a steep price for the victory, however: his vocal chords end up damaged, leaving him effectively powerless for the remainder of the year.

Oh, and here’s interesting fact about the above spread: you may or may not know that Chris Claremont and John Byrne were notoriously terrible at working together; this issue became a particular sore point between the creators. See, Byrne wanted to run the above panel without the sound of ‘Kra-Koom’, believing the art was strong enough to convey the destruction. He was livid when the finished product ended up containing a sound effect after all. I get your frustration, man, but if you want a writer who knows how to say less with more, you should maybe not work with Claremont?

(One of the reasons Claremont liked being so verbose and descriptive in his scripts was because otherwise, the artist would fill in the blanks using his own imagination. It’s no wonder these two found it hard to work together.)

On the flight to the US of A, Colleen Wing hits on Cyclops. It has to be the jawline, right? It can’t be the personality. All of a sudden, a snow storm causes their plane to be diverted to Calgary. The cause of this delay is Alpha Flight, who want their Wolverine back!

When even the narration is all “and they think they’re equal to any team of superheroes”, you know you’re a bunch of C-listers. Ugh. (X-Men 121)

Vindicator, previously known as Captain Alpha. He changed his name after accidentally shooting Moira that one time, which is exactly the kind of hollow gesture this dude would make. Ugh. If you think his new-found remorse won’t let him threaten an airplane chock full of innocent passengers, you would be wrong.

Shaman, doctor by day, magic user by night. Him and his magical little pouch are to blame for the snow storm.

Sasquatch, Canada’s answer to the Hulk. (Hilariously, the theory on why he turns furry instead of green is because he’s closer to the Aurora Borealis and this somehow messes with the radiation?)

Snowbird, a young Arctic goddess. Precious. To be cherished. Barely there for this adventure, sadly.

Northstar, an arrogant, hot-headed speedster, the twin brother of

Aurora, a lover, not a fighter. Together, they have light powers.

Vindicator and Shaman hog most of the spotlight, so Alpha Flight continues to be the ever-loving worst. They’re really wasting Northstar’s first appearance here. Here's why they suck:

Alpha Flight accidentally smashes a plane and keeps threatening to drag Wolverine back to the military against his will.

They push the cover price of the comic to a whoppin’ 40 cents.

Johnny fuckin’ Hudson even provokes Storm into an attack in the middle of a mall.

Shaman lets his blizzard get out of control.

After Storm fixes this mistake for him, Northstar has the gall to knock her out, “because she’s obviously the strongest”. Like, you’re not wrong, but damn, y’all a bunch of unpleasant superheroes.

To stop the fight, Wolverine decides to turn himself in. The X-Men leave, but while flying back, they already make plans to save their teammate. Wolverine saves them the trouble, casually sauntering into the cockpit while claiming that pulling a fast one on them was the easiest thing ever.

To be fair, I understand why you’d want to put a country between yourself and those bozos.

And finally, the X-Men are home! Xavier left them the equivalent of a Post-It saying “off to space”, so they try to pick up their life as best they can. None of them contact Jean’s parents, make an attempt to visit her grave or happen to see Beast on TV and by now, my suspension of disbelief is stretched so far that it could replace Reed Richards on the Fantastic Four.

Ororo, meanwhile, makes a little pilgrimage to Harlem, to the building she grew up in before she moved to Cairo.

I have failed you as a recapper, because I have absolutely no idea how to parse this scene. (X-Men 122)

I think I’d have to write a full-on thesis before I could properly analyse this, because so many things intersect here: poverty and racism, the boundaries of a superhero comic, confronting a (shared) past. I can’t even fully gauge if this is a clumsy, privileged attempt at tackling a serious topic or rather, a valuable moment in a comic that continually tries to expand on its themes of racism, exclusion and prejudice. One thing I will note is:

Luke Cage delivers the sort of trite conclusion that they’re superheroes: they’re better at fighting Galactus than at fixing the human condition. Point is, he kind of has to believe that, doesn’t he? It’s the sort of blind spot we all permit ourselves: you can’t fix everything. None of us have the power to fix the earth, or humanity, or the economy, or whatever: if you’re lucky, you can maybe tend to your own garden and leave it better than you found it, ensuring some happiness for yourself and a few loved ones.

Chasing bank robbers is easy. Superhero stuff. But here? Who do you attack here? These kids, or the system that failed them? You can’t really punch a needle exchange into being. Maybe that’s the appeal of superhero comics: there’s a clear villain, which is so sorely lacking in our day to day lifes. There, we are ruled by systems that are rooted in inequality, patriarchy, gender...

But Storm isn’t like Luke Cage, not in this regard. Before she became an X-Man, she used her powers to help people that came to her. And the whole point of the X-Men - other than beating up villains in colorful spandex - is that they want to change the system. They want to fix things, they want to fix a dark part of human nature, the part that hates which we fear.

Storm doesn’t really respond to Luke Cage here, but we know she’ll keep fighting the good fight, despite insurmountable odds. You can’t fix mankind, I don’t think, but you can sure as hell try.

Black Tom and Juggernaut hire Arcade… to kill the X-Men! I’m not sure why? I thought these two usually attempted to solve things on their own and Arcade’s fee is, like, a million bucks, so…? Maybe Black Tom asked his boyfriend what he wanted for his birthday and Juggernaut clenched his fists and said “I WANT THE X-MEN DEAD” and things escalated from there.

So, Arcade is a subtle villain. While Scott and Colleen Wing are on a date, this happens:

I can’t decide which is funnier: kidnapping people by sneaking up on them with A GARBAGE TRUCK or the fact that Spider-Man deduces this is Arcade’s doing by the noise alone. (X-Men 123)

Spider-Man doesn’t really figure into the rest of the plot, by the way.

Arcade successfully kidnaps all of the X-Men (and their dates: Colleen, Amanda and Betsy). Who is this Arcade? Well, he is an assassin who lets his victims run through a gauntlet of some sort, testing them with potentially deadly results in his Murderworld. He’s like a discount-combo of Saw and the Joker, except a lot less competent and a lot more spoiled rich kid. He barely kills anyone, ever, until maaaybe Avengers Arena, some forty years later.

Arcade veers heavily to the silly side of the silly-to-sinister scale, but he at least commits to a theme. Bonus is that trapping your heroes in a bunch of ricocheting balls fubars them ever-so beautifully. (X-Men 123)

This whole adventure is very silly and has very little bearing on the overarching plot, but it’s a fun enough romp: Cyclops nearly gets squashed by a hydraulic press, Nightcrawler gets attacked by bumper cars with chain saws attached to them, stuff like that. The absolute best part is when Colossus is hypnotized by an illusion of the KGB and becomes THE PROLETARIAN.

His insignia is Vladimir Lenin, y’all.

After various shenanigans, everybody is freed from their respective booby traps, everyone except Colossus. See, Piotr has been feeling down, torn between the exciting new loyalty to the X-Men and the more dutiful loyalty to his family and his motherland. (Also, he’s been feeling like a failure because he came up short a couple a times, aw.) Those feelings are exactly what Arcade has been abusing, but when Colossus comes in for the kill, Storm gives the most heartfelt plea:

I’m not crying, you’re crying. (X-Men 124)

Arcade’s all: “Eh, can’t win ‘em all” and yeets the X-Men out of Murderworld. The story has barely any other repercussions, except we stop seeing Colleen Wing and Betsy (Piotr’s date) after this. To be fair, being kidnapped by a super villain is a good reason to stop seeing someone.

Even more inconsequential is the adventure in the Annual. The only important thing to glean from there is that, when Thor is unavailable, Storm is a suitable substitution. Couldn’t agree more.

The quality of the comic has been steadily ascending throughout the year and ends on a supremely high note: Proteus. Because I think it might be Claremont’s best work so far, I’ll be dedicating a full post to that. (Man, that 10-picture-limit is a real bummer, huh?)

Ugliest Costume: I don’t care, I just want someone to cosplay the Proletarian.

Best new character: There’s actually a few options - Snowbird, Northstar, Proteus - but both Jean-Paul and Narya don’t really show their best sides this year, so I’m going in a different direction. My pick is the Shadow King. He is a very effective foil to Xavier, perhaps even moreso than Magneto. I know I rag on Xavier and his cavalier attitude to bending others to his will a lot, but imagine if you had his powers: wouldn’t you just make people do whatever you want? Just, like, all the time? The Shadow King is an effective reminder of what Charles would have been like, had he been immoral. (Well, more immoral.)

No matter how cool your psychic battle may be, this is what it looks like to the rest of the world. (X-Men 117)

sonic has seen how strong chris has gotten, he's started growing out of his shell and is being more outspoken and brave. he believes that he's helped chris grow into his own person and will be fine on his own

135. Sonic the Hedgehog #76

I swear, every time I look at this cover I have two reactions one after the other:

1. I always think he's flipping us off for a second before I examine his hand more closely, and

2. Oh god Robotnik's man boobs. Save us.

Business as Usual

So things are… bad.

The city has fallen, and by now everyone within has either managed to escape, or been captured and roboticized. Sonic and the others have landed their craft on the edge of town and quickly vacated it, as shadow-bots quickly surrounded it, searching for its former occupants. Sally and Nicole reason that the populace has likely relocated to Knothole and they should go to join everyone else, but Snively immediately shuts this idea down, saying his uncle likely has a file listing Knothole's location and that the village isn't safe at all. Sally then says they have to find a way to prevent him from accessing that file, which Snively is even less on board with.

Sonic immediately blackmails Snively into helping them by pretending like he's going to shout out to the shadow-bots so they can take Snively, as a traitor, back to Robotnik, and he relents. Sonic, Sally, and Snively prepare to sneak into Robotropolis, while Bunnie, Antoine and Tails escort Sonic's parents back to Knothole, where the king is currently addressing the citizens.

Sneaking into the city, Sonic notices a group of shadow-bots surrounding some unlucky Mobians who failed to escape the city in time, right in front of the entrance to Robotnik's HQ. He decides to mount a rescue and create a distraction in one fell swoop, so that Sally and Snively can get inside.

While Snively uses his not-yet-cancelled access card to gain entry, Robotnik rants and raves deeper in the facility about Sonic's escape and immediate subsequent attempts to derail his plans. I should note that at this point, everyone has immediately resumed just calling him "Robotnik" even though he's technically a different entity from the original Robotnik, and it will actually be a little while before anyone transitions into calling him Eggman. So, as I've done before with other things that have different names over the course of the comic, I'll simply refer to him as whatever each individual issue refers to him as. Just know that from now on, if I say "Robotnik" I mean this new Robotnik, and if I mean the original Robotnik, well, I'll say "the original Robotnik." Anyway, Sonic dismantles a bunch of shadow-bots, but more keep arriving, so he advises the rescued Mobians to "juice" while he continues to take care of business. Inside the HQ, Sally hooks Nicole up to Robotnik's central computer to let her do some hacking, but a shadow-bot sneaks up on her from behind and grabs her.

I'm really liking this characterization of Snively, honestly. It's a much more interesting angle than him being just another cackling schemer like his uncle. Outside, as Sonic finishes off the last of the shadow-bots in the area, he spots one of the Mobians he rescued from before running further into the city instead of following everyone else out. He stops her, but she tries to rush past him anyway, sobbing that someone she cares about was captured and dragged into the city by the bots.

Hey-oh, it's Mina Mongoose! This is a character I'm quite fond of, so I'm happy to see her finally make her first appearance! Snively takes the opportunity while everyone is distracted comforting Mina to take his leave, just waltzing alone into the midst of the buildings as though he wasn't terrified of walking in here just ten minutes ago. As Sonic and Sally lead Mina away, heading back for Knothole, Robotnik decides to turn his arm into a gross creepy mass of wires that he then plugs into his system instead of just typing up a search request like a normal person.

Well now, Robotnik, look what could have been avoided had you just used the computer like a non-creepy-robotic-wire-being.

Tales of the Great War (Part Four): Another Point-of-View

While all of the above is going on, Bunnie, Antoine, Tails, and Sonic's parents are busy sneaking out of the city. They wait in hiding for a group of shadow-bots to pass, and Tails suddenly pipes up that they can't leave Jeremiah behind at the library without at least making sure he got out okay. Despite Jules' misgivings, Bernie agrees with Tails, and so they head to the library. Tails calls out for Jeremiah and he pokes his head out from behind a bookshelf with a smile, filing away some books as though literally nothing is wrong.

Bernie, what? This is a rescue mission to get Jeremiah out alive, we don't have time to be reading random passages from books! Jules apparently thinks this is a great idea, however, and begins to read about an assault by the Overlanders on Mobotropolis during the Great War. Colin Kintobor (who is, if you'll remember, the original Robotnik's brother) led the assault, flat out ordering his soldiers to kill everyone they see, because if there's anything that says "good guys," it's trying to wipe out literally every single individual in your enemy's ranks. For whatever reason, Kenders writes this whole section with a weird emphasis on gender, as he mentions the "women and children" being safe in the bunkers as though Mobian women haven't ever been soldiers or warriors or anything. However, clearly not all the women were tucked away like good little housewives, as when the Mobian soldiers head underground Jules notices Bernie, whom he is not yet married to and only recognizes as "the girl I used to debate against in school." Cocoa, a *gasp* female cat who looks much like Hershey and is probably meant to be her mother, and Bernie then lead the group through the tunnels with their "superior eyesight" as women (I'm not joking, Penders literally writes that - apparently somehow being female gives them superior eyesight?). They emerge from the tunnels behind enemy lines, using this to their advantage, but are spotted by Colin before they make their first move.

Geez, man, what is with this bizarre attitude Kenders has toward women in this story? I know he's had his weird moments here and there, but there hasn't been such a strong emphasis on gender like this since way back during that whole "original Robotnik is a misogynist and lures Sally and Bunnie in to be damsels in distress in a shopping mall" episode. Anyway, Colin then escaped into the tunnels and no one ever knew what became of him after that. However, someone apparently snapped a photo at some point, and when the king showed it to Robotnik, he recognized it as his hated brother. He then continued to urge the king to fight aggressively against the Overlanders, and as such was named Warlord in Kodos' place. Jules, finishing the passage, decides that Tails was right that they need to save this knowledge, saying that they should save the books that they can right now and make plans to come back for the rest in the future. At least this is something I can actually get behind - wouldn't want to leave all those books, and Jeremiah, back in this newly-restored dump of a city now would you?

Punch: I want him to be free and want him to travel around the world as much as he wants.

Gigamesh: Me too. Both you and I never had a time since little when we could travel around the world as much as we wanted, unlike the prime world.

Punch: You're not age Mr Gilgamesh.....

Gilgamesh: At least I was once a child too even not from the earth!!

Punch: Sonic should go to the many places he wants....both two of us can't but Sonic can.....that's why.....my brother.....

Gilgamesh: As long as Eggman has done the bad stuff but for him to travel and gain experience. I think is worth it.

Punch: And play and kick some butt with that jerk Eggman that is pretty fun and not boring. I think is worth it.*Evil Laugh*

Gilgamesh: My childhood has already ended. I don't have a right to replace my brother's life. He has a will to live by his own freedom.

And in Sonic Rush Adventure

When Sonic and Tails are tracking a mysterious, unknown source of energy in the Tornado, when they are sucked into a hurricane. The two then find themselves on an island, where a raccoon girl, named Marine the Raccoon, takes care of the two when they woke up. She tells the dynamic duo that she wants to go adventuring. With this, the hedgehog and the fox set off for different islands, and the adventure begins. In this ending Tails says maybe they end up in Blaze's dimension because that is what Chaos Emeralds want not Sol Emeralds. (Not only reason Sonic and Blaze found out that the Emeralds brought them together once again, and did not threaten to destroy both worlds this time because they were stable) In this scene Sonic though why Chaos Emeralds acted on their own will, not Sonic, that's makes Sonic question because he was the only one who could use Chaos Emeralds until Blaze gives him the answer.

Blaze points out that the reason is from Sonic himself.

In this scene Sonic is shocked and later he changes to a happy smile because that's from Super Sonic or the other him that lives inside him not because Chaos Emeralds acted on their own will. Make Sonic felt happy because the other him tried to tell Sonic that the other him always be there for him even though Sonic wasn't the one who used Chaos Emeralds. No matter what happens or Sonic may get lost in the darkness or in danger, Super Sonic or the other him will be there for him, and want Sonic to know he has never been alone. The same reason in Sonic X, the other him agrees and though the same as Sonic, stays with Chris just a little longer and heals Chris' heart as the best as Sonic can as a friend.

"You know what, Chris? The moon is the same in this world, and in the other world." meaning "Even I am not here but I will always be there" The same means "I'm not staring at the moon and thinking about him!" and The same meaning as this one Source

Punch: Even this power belongs to you and to us, it's up to you when to use those powers. What you want to do it's up to you decided, not because of us but your own freedom.

Punch: You'll be fine. You already know that yourself, don't you? So don't throw away the kind you've become.

Sonic: I know I'll be fine, after all.....I've always been "me". I live by my own and my free will not from my brothers or from your memory.

Gilgamesh: That's right. You kinda remind me of myself when I made decisions to be responsible as a king for the first time. Well, this is where we part ways. Bye, Sonic.

Punch: Life is full of pitfalls but I know you've got what it takes to pull through. And don't worry. You'll do just find on your own.

Sonic: Bye, my brothers. Until we meet again. And thank you again.

Sonic: It only took you being there walking to make me happy. Being together, even though we weren't together.

The crack Sonic and Kingdom Hearts crossover headcanon only me and maybe one other person wants to hear, but you're all getting it anyway because I don't do what's popular.

In Sonic X it's stated that Eggman originally came from Earth before he, somehow, found himself on Mobius in a different universe(It's more convenient to say Mobius than to keep saying, "Sonic's world", okay.). Personally, I don't buy the whole with thing with him not having recollection of originally being from Earth, and I think he's just talking out of his ass because for whatever reason he doesn't even want his robots knowing of all his past escapades of jumping from world-to-world and universe-to-universe before eventually ending up on Mobius and settling down there.

We know there's other means of traveling to other worlds in the Kingdom Hearts universe beyond using Gummi Ships, like creating portals from darkness or light, so that more than leaves open methods of traveling to other worlds like using time distorting rocks or even teleportation machines. I wouldn't put it past Eggman at all to even use "darkness" to hop around worlds and be all, "Yeah, whatever.", about the dangers of doing so.

Seeing how every new place he ends up in he either tries to take it over or start some kind of shit, upholding the "world order" would be the last thing he would care about doing even if he knew about it. Even if he never did outright try to established his empire on other planets by force before Mobius, I imagine he would have still tried to find ways to weasel himself into the world's communities or governments he traveled to by mingling with the locals and getting on their good side. So before he eventually found his way on Mobius he, um, unknowingly conceived two kin. One with an actress being unfaithful to her husband back on his home planet, Earth, before he left it, and one with a women in some other world and on a place their called, Destiny Islands, but quickly beat feet the second the locals started becoming suspicious of his extremely shady ulterior motives of wanting to assimilate in their quaint little community.

Both of these long lost inter-dimensional siblings looked very similar to each other, especially during their tween and early teen years. Only one dresses like they should be at a rave instead of fighting with a giant car key, and one looks like they actually use a comb on their hair.

(Of course they both lucked out with their looks.)

Things would be a little awkward if Sora and Chris crossed paths and found out they were actually related as half-brothers, but both would be elated by it and quickly accept each other as siblings none the less. Cue the whole, "I've known *insertcharacter'sname* for *veryshortamountoftime* but if anything ever happens to him, I'll *veryoverthetopthreatgoeshere*.", meme. But things would be a different story with Eggman, especially when he tries to get on their good side right after learning their both his kin...

I am not sorry for this crack crossover headcanon at all.

Sonic Movie Legendary Pictures Reboot

My true final edit I finally decided to put the Sonic movie positivity tags because I want this to get more attraction. Despite people may dislike this but after seeing the positivity tag since there are two but the, “Sonic movie positivity” tag is the one people use more. I just want people to notice this. Again I’m not making more of these. Especially I wanted to have discussions with folks who are more positive about the movie and just about anybody okay I’m scared of that but whatever this is fan fiction.

This is something I’ve been working on for the past two nights and this morning and just right now. I started on this late at night after I found out my grandfather was dead. For some time I wanted to try to make some fake thumbnail giving the idea Legendary bought the movie rights to Sonic. But let me talk about this. This all started after I admitted on a reblog I made detailing something like this.

I’ve been honest about the Sonic movie. Such as being cautious and optimistic compared to so much negativity that actually gets annoying. I do like how a lot of folks are excited for the film in some positivity tags for the movie, I’m grateful they are around.

Yet this was an idea I decided to write. Mainly a trilogy of films if Warner Bros and Legendary got the rights to the film. Or the possibility of the film already being rebooted. I’ll be honest it sounds rude that I’m already making this, since the film isn’t out. But I wanted to share my vision and I’m open to everyone’s thoughts. You can well be critical about it, since this is all fan fiction. At one point I was nervous to share this. Including because of that picture at the top. Including it’s very long and be warned this is part 1 of a trilogy. It’s not perfect but again this is my vision of how I wanted a Sonic movie should of been.

I’m opened to opinions and we can discuss this. Including I need to brainstorm about the first sequel and after that the second sequel. Especially this is less ambitious than my old ideas. Or it’s still ambitious because I’m sharing these details. It’s a long read.

Last edit this isn’t a part 1 anymore considering what I have decided or am deciding. This will be explained in a separate post and this is basically a first draft that I will keep out in the open for any possible discussion.

Tom Holland as Sonic The Hedgehog. A 21 year old hedgehog with a cocky attitude, easy going demeanor, and some what short temper, yet strong sense of justice, compassion, and a love of freedom and adventure. Born with the ability of super sonic speed. He uses his powers to fight off Dr. Ivo Robotnik and other evil forces.

Height: 4 feet.

Chris Pratt as Sergeant Gary Andrews. A 31 year old GUN soldier with a confident attitude and headstrong with a sense of justice for all life forms, but also very down to earth. Including very courageous in times of extreme danger.

Realizing that Sonic and his friends may be the world’s best chance at stopping Robotnik, he goes on the run from the same military he’s in to help them.

Paul Giammatti as Dr. Ivo Robotnik. A 54 year old scientist with a high IQ of 300 who wants to take over the world. Truly an ego maniac who has a psychotic belief of self entitlement, as well arrogant and narcissistic. He won’t stop at his goal and will destroy anyone that gets in his way.

Finn Wolfhard as Miles Tails Prower. A 14 year old two tailed fox. Possessing very high intelligence, and being a mechanical genius, but also a sweet and gentle soul. He’s Sonic’s best friend and looks to Sonic as a brother figure and inspiration. Able to use his two tails to fly and amazing as an aerial pilot, Tails is truly a big help.

Height: 3 feet.

Hailee Steinfeld as Amy Rose. A 18 year old hedgehog who’s a cheerful attitude, though erratic girl, with a positive attitude and boundless energy. Even though some times having a scary temper, she actually has a pure heart. Including has a crush on Sonic but keeps it to a minimal and it’s mainly a secret. She’s not obsessed with him but wants to accompany him on his adventures.

Height: 4 feet.

Metal Sonic. A robotic doppelganger of Sonic himself. Possibly Robotnik’s greatest creation, and serving as his obedient and silent enforcer. Metal is a intelligent machine with a very dark side. Truly a cold hearted, aggressive, and ruthless killer. He’s obsessed with proving his superiority to Sonic in every way and destroying him once and for all. All to finally prove that he’s the, “Real Sonic”.

Height: 4 feet.

Silver Sonic. Another robotic doppelganger of Sonic himself. But compared to Metal, Silver Sonic is more like a machine that gets told what needs to be done. More focused on causing destruction and will kill anyone that appose Robotnik’s rule. Truly a tall brute that’s more bulky, and monstrous than Metal. Making him Robotnik’s muscle. Yet still fast which makes him overall dangerous.

Height: 11 feet.

Emilia Clarke as Katherine Grady. A 31 year old zoologist and a single mother who travelled to South Island and has lived there for some time. Originally from London, she wanted to study and discover what life is like on the island that not many humans travel to. She’s a caring and supportive woman who values all forms of life. Yet she will get serious when she needs to be. Especially to protect the ones she loves, including her daughter.

She has actually known Sonic for some time but not much. But she gets caught up with Sonic, his friends, and Gary when they are on South Island. Finding out what’s going on she helps them by trying to find where Robotnik may be at.

Millie Bobby Brown as Kaliyah Grady. A 14 year old girl and Katherine’s daughter. With Katherine giving birth to Kaliyah at a young age but helped by her father. Kaliyah's father didn’t wanna take care of his daughter anymore because he felt it wasn’t his responsibility, leaving the two and other family members when Kaliyah was 4.

Kaliyah is a fearless and generous young girl. Growing up and not affected much by her father walking out of her life. A bit more adventurous than her mother in some regards. She actually makes friends with Tails and the others when she and her mother get caught up with Sonic.

Idris Elba as Abraham Westbrook. The 54 year old Commander of GUN short for Guardian Units Of Nations. He is Gary’s commander. While being described having a, “Heart Of Stone” and stoic, he is actually quite passionate, having a softer side he rarely shows, and a great sense of duty towards his people.

Assuming Sonic is a threat and shocked when Gary who he considers one of his best soldiers actually tries to help the hedgehog. He realizes Gary was right when he sees Sonic is only trying to stop Robotnik just like him.

Joe Manganiello as Lieutenant Derek Sanderson. A 41 year old GUN soldier who’s good friends with Gary. Despite being more stoic and serious than Gary, he values the same sense of values Gary shares. During a search for Robotnik, Metal Sonic ambushes the squad that was sent, and murders almost everyone. Except for Derek who had survived. Only seeing Metal as what he describes as a, “Blue Blur” and his shape. He and even the commander believe Sonic is working for Robotnik.

Believing Sonic to have murdered his squad and working for Robotnik. He considers Sonic a, “Psychopathic Freak” and makes it his personal mission to not just kill Robotnik, but also Sonic. Basically developing a hatred of the hedgehog and will not stop till he’s dead. What makes it worse when he finds out Gary has joined Sonic to help him. He see’s it as a betrayal of brotherhood, he and GUN try to catch them. Even if he has to get answers out of what he considers Sonic’s associates which are his friends Tails, and Amy, but also Katherine and her daughter.

Setting, characters, and notes.

1. The development of the story was rather difficult. Including I think I felt the pain and annoyance of how the development for the story of Brad Peyton’s Rampage went like. Also possibly even the writers behind Jeff Fowler’s Sonic movie. As the start of a possible franchise and first film, elements of Sonic The Hedgehog 1 and 2, and Sonic CD were used. With characters like Sonic, Dr. Robotnik/Eggman, Tails, Amy, Metal Sonic, and Silver Sonic(From Sonic 2 also known as Mecha Sonic too) being the first to be introduced.

Looking over those first three games and trying to build a story was difficult. Because there was hardly any(Since gameplay was the main focus) but elements that could be used.

There were possibilities of the Death Egg and Little Planet. But to avoid a possible lawsuit by Disney it’s likely a Death Egg adaption might not happened unless it’s changed a bit. Including Little Planet seems a bit much to introduce including the Death Egg.

So the story became a more simple but working one that uses elements from those earlier games. With the simple premise being Sonic with his allies must stop Robotnik from getting all the Chaos Emeralds which would help him a lot.

2. It’s strangely an origin story in a way. While Sonic, Tails, and Amy have known each other for a long while. But Robotnik and Sonic haven’t met yet. Yet Robotnik knows about Sonic and is impressed and inspired to make two robots. One to be a perfect counterpart to Sonic himself(Metal Sonic), and one that’s more of a brute(Silver Sonic) and extra back up.

With Sonic being framed in a way by Metal, and Robotnik having a larger goal to take over the world and build Robotnik Land. Including to give his newest robotic helpers Metal and Silver Sonic all the power they need to help him take over.

3. The setting is based upon a theory I’ve had for the world of Sonic in the games. If you ignore the, “Two Worlds” thing or something. Including this set up also confirms what will be explored in the next film.

Animal like people such as Sonic have been on the Earth from the start. It’s not a story where a character from another dimension comes to our world. In a similar sense it’s like Legendary’s Monsterverse and that creatures like Sonic have been here since the start. In a era before humans became the dominant species.

What happened to these animals is that because of when Chaos decided to unleash his anger on the world. The scene from Sonic Adventure, Chaos was the reason why these animals are no larger the dominant species in a sense. Because of Chaos supposedly destroying the world. While many other species got to live. Tragically the echidna race had it far worse since they were the first to suffer and were the reason Chaos was angered. Slowly the echidna race was near extinction. Which led to Knuckles being the only one of his kind.

Again Chaos is the reason why Sonic and his friends and other animals seem rare. As they live on certain islands and South Island being one of them. Yet there is no tension between these animals and humans. Because there is no point and humanity views these creatures as equals. Yet considering these creatures don’t go out in the human world much, it’s rather surprising to see one in public. This is something the first sequel will explore.

4. Honestly some of this such as Sonic characters, and in some ways the story is inspired by what was the leaked story for the Sonic movie. https://www.reddit.com/r/SonicTheHedgehog/comments/7e8a15/some_info_about_the_upcoming_sonic_film/ Unknown if it’s truly fake or it was an actual story for the movie. It’s something I don’t mind considering it’s doing what I’m doing. Because when I look at this I would of liked to see the upcoming Sonic movie be something like this. Despite my annoyance with how Chaos is treated. Unless you explore him in a sequel.

5. Brad Peyton is a choice I’ve wanted for sometime because of his work on Rampage. But also to add to that San Andreas, yet Rampage being the biggest reason. Another choice which I’m still thinking about is Michael Dougherty who directed Trick R Treat, Krampus, and Godzilla King Of The Monsters. Yet Brad has that style I want for the film and give him a good writer and it can help.

6. Robotnik was actually a well known genius before becoming a villain. Related to the great Gerald Robotnik.(Confirming his existence in this universe and setting up the possibility of a Sonic Adventure 2 adaption and in a way confirming Shadow probably exists in this universe and so does the Space Colony Ark) Ivo was actually respected but over time people began to see who he was.

He moved to South Island to get away from the human world. Including where he wouldn’t be interrupted and plan for something greater. It’s where South Island he builds his dangerous robots especially Metal Sonic and Silver Sonic. Including he learns of the Chaos Emeralds and wants to use them for his own selfish reasons.

Before hand Robotnik wasn’t bothered by the animals on South Island and assumed he was friendly, Ivo just minded his own business yet he took advantage of the situation by making his own company, making money off the animals to get more parts. Including selling some of his machinery to buyers from across the world. His entire workforce is made out of robots. For a lot of years he kept out of the public eye for many years to make a big surprise. Which is him rising up to become a villain.

7. Metal Sonic is heavily inspired by his OVA counterpart. While Robotnik was inspired by Sonic’s powers to make Metal. He truly wanted to make the perfect killing machine. But also something that can destroy Sonic if he were to try to stop him. Robotnik gave Metal intelligence to learn and adapt from Sonic. Which leads to Metal developing this mindset and obsession that he should be the only Sonic. While not having something like Sonic’s, “Life Data” like in the OVA where he has Sonic’s memories. He’s more like how Sonic CD introduced him. Yet after encountering Sonic he slowly starts changing and develops this hatred of his organic counterpart.

Edit after looking at Hyper Metal Sonic on Sonic News Network. I still wanna incorporate the concept of Metal having Sonic’s memories. Because the idea makes Metal seem more dangerous and like the info said make him durable. Maybe Robotnik gets Sonic’s blood somehow it’s tricky. I just love the OVA so it’s mainly like that version. Edit I’ll admit and use that quill idea which me and other folks are thinking in the trailer for Jeff Fowler’s Sonic movie that Robotnik might use that quill of Sonic to power Metal Sonic or something.

Especially Metal’s design from the games hardly changed. Including the direction to take with Metal was to make him scary. He doesn’t talk, he doesn’t care who he hurts, he’s super fast and super strong. Robotnik intended him to be the true opposite of Sonic. Any others are just back up, while Metal is seen as perfect, the true copy.

While cranking up the idea he’s like the OVA but cranked up to be more scary. Including inspirations from Brightburn, Man Of Steel, and Brad Peyton’s Rampage and not just the OVA. He’s brutal, fast, and unforgiving, but not to a point it’s R rated but it’s shown he’s actually killing people, even breaking bones, yet still PG-13. Showcasing Robotnik went all out to make him this perfect killing machine. Especially to frame Sonic for murdering GUN soldiers.

8. Silver Sonic while based upon the final boss before the Death Egg Robot in Sonic The Hedgehog 2. He’s actually inspired by Silver Sonic V3.0/V3.1 from the Archie Sonic comics. Such as design which resembles more of modern Sonic but still huge.

The direction for Silver Sonic is while Metal is the true copy of Sonic, he was built to be a unbeatable tank. What Robotnik did with Silver Sonic is that he wanted a tall and almost unstoppable monster. The fact Robotnik loved what Sonic’s abilities can do, he didn’t wanna just make one. Silver Sonic is mainly a brute, built to be the tank while Metal is more of Robotnik’s enforcer and to lead his robots. Especially as Silver Sonic does not care of proving his superiority to Sonic, he listens to Robotnik, and just wants to wreck shit and kill anybody who appose Robotnik’s rule.

A name to call them is the, “Metal Brothers”.

But also the other reason why Silver Sonic was added is kind of funny. It was the idea to add a larger robot. Since the Death Egg Robot is connected to the Death Egg, and while Robotnik has used many machines to fight Sonic. I just love robotic Sonic’s. Including the reason to make so tall is that I some what wanted a giant monster, something like a kaiju. Yet it’s not because it’s a giant robotic Sonic causing destruction and shit. But compared to Metal, he’s built to be different.

Another funny thing his height was chosen by what people believe how tall a sasquatch is.

Mecha Sonic from Sonic & Knuckles will make an appearance in the first sequel. Being a replacement for Silver Sonic after he’s destroyed.

9. All of the animal characters are CGI. But their designs are changed radically. They are very familiar. Yet they are more furrier, Sonic has fingerless gloves, it’s unknown of how Amy might look but some changes might be made.(Because of her dress and how under it is exposed) But she would remain familiar. It’s done in a similar route like Legendary’s Detective Pikachu. But other added details such as Sonic’s eyes don’t look like one eye. Despite it was confirmed they are two eyes in the games.

Along with little details like Sonic having fangs like in Sonic Adventure. With the possibility of Sonic’s ears could be curved a bit. But it might make a live action werehog’s ears look redundant. Yet the werehog looks really different.

Sonic, Amy, and Tails were buffed up to be taller and actually older. To show that they were teenagers or young adults, and that they were not that small. Compared to their game’s counterparts. Really I didn’t want them to be that small.

Their ages were buffed up about six years from the games counterparts. The reason being while strange, was the fact these characters get porn drawn of them. It’s best to make them older so we are playing it safe. Yet the other direction is the fact they are a bit more mature. But they are the same characters you still know.

10. Green Hill(despite the annoyance of the fanbase), Chemical Plant(that too despite the annoyance the fanbase), Mystic Cave, Labyrinth, and Metropolis are included as real places. While development of the world is still at hand, the concept that certain countries of today still exist while some fictional places in certain countries.

Metropolis is where the final battle on the main land takes place between Sonic and Gary against Metal and Silver Sonic, and whoever else is involved. Originally a version of Stardust Speedway was gonna be in here. But considering it’s origin it was best to keep it out. Despite it being the place where Sonic and Metal first clash in the games.

11. The movie explores the themes of friendship and brotherhood. Including with elements of family. With Gary in a way a older but human version of what Sonic could be. His bond develops over the course of the film with the hedgehog. Including things such as Sonic and Tail’s brotherhood, Gary’s brotherhood with Derek. Including the friendship between Kaliyah and Sonic’s friends. Along with the idea Gary being the father figure to Kaliyah, Katherine’s friendship with Amy.

Which jeez that’s a lot. Yet this development of characters makes them strong. Especially in the face of certain characters such as Robotnik, Metal, and Silver Sonic.

12. The characters of Katherine(Especially her), and Kaliyah are inspired by Johanna and Hilda from the Netflix series Hilda.

Along with the fact originally Millie Bobby Brown was gonna play Amy. But I wanted to add this daughter element and Millie as Amy I guess bothered me. Despite it being good casting, but I wanted to be comfortable with it so I decided to have Hailee Steinfeld as Amy.

13. Idris Ebla is indeed playing the movie version of the GUN Commander from the video games. The reason I didn’t have his name as Tower because of possible idea that Sega wouldn’t allow that since his name in the Archie Sonic comics is Abraham Tower. But hopefully still using the Abraham name is fine. Especially it’s meaning since for these human characters I looked up there meanings like I do with my other character castings.

Reasons why Idris is casted as the commander because simply Idris is awesome. Including the presence he would bring to the character. The other choice was Lawrence Fishburne. Besides his race wasn’t important from what I know. Despite I do think of trying to diversify casting. But I like these casting choices.

Yet also the commander being here sets up his role or something in a Sonic Adventure 2 adaption. While it also helps with the idea someone needs to be in charge of these military forces.

14. The score would be composed by Andrew Lockington who did the scores for Brad Peyton’s San Andreas and Rampage. Other musical choices include Papa Roach with, “Face Everything And Rise”, and 30 Seconds To Mars with, “This Is War”. Including the added bonus of the original Sonic Boom song from Sonic CD, a possible song from Crush 40, and even Zebrahead with, “His World”. Along with possibly Linkin Park’s, “Numb” which is a theme between Sonic and Metal. With a added bonus of, “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” by Smashing Pumpkins and Christion Gray’s, “Stop Me”.

15: Reason why a human element was included for some reasons. Okay reason because it’s live action yet other reasons. While I like characters like Princess Elise(I would like to adapt her and change 06 probably but I don’t know if Sega and Sonic Team and much of the fanbase would even allow that. I would love to put maybe a cameo, and a easter to show Soleanna exists in this world. But the story of 06 would be different), and I’m bothered by a character like Chris Thorndyke. There seems to be this stigma against humans which is some what reasonable.

The concept of having Gary be a soldier and a adult, strangely an action hero is to defy expectations and make certain fans change their minds. Including to have a human directly trying to help Sonic instead of being a cheerleader. He’s literally trained for this, and is actually going against his military to help this hedgehog. Along with the fact he’s so courageous it doesn’t matter he tries to go against certain robots, especially Metal and Silver Sonic. Give him a assault rifle and a grenade launcher and he’s gonna do the best he can. He will be terrified but he’s not gonna run away, he’s truly what if Sonic was a human being but older. Including he’s not gonna lose what is possibly the best friend or even a brother he never had, that shares the same values he has.

While I know not every human needs to be that, and that’s good. But Gary is the example of a person who’s willing to risk his life to not just save the planet, but to also protect a creature he never knew that would be his best friend. The kind of hero who does something because it’s the right thing to do.

16. I’m tempted to add Dwayne Johnson but I won’t. Besides he has Rampage anyway and other major films. But I’m not tempted anymore.

17. I strangely wanna put a little reference to Steven Universe considering two characters are inspired by Hilda. Such as actors or similar to certain characters. But the film will be filled with more characters and you gonna be careful with a lot of characters. Maybe the next movie.
