How different do you think Beastars would be if Legosi, Leano, Toki, and Gosha were species-swapped? That means Legosi, Leano, and Toki are Komodo Dragons while Gosha is a wolf. (Optional: Maybe in addition, Miyagi would also be a Komodo Dragon - if you took it further, maybe a member of the Dokugumi, unless the role of estranged dad could go to Savon instead?)
I personally don't believe that Beastars would have been too different, but I'm always open to other opinions! [Consider this a content warning for suicide, and related topics.]

The Conflict of Legoshi's Family
I can't speak to Paru's intention, but, in my mind, Legoshi's family is used to show the consequences and indeed, what could happen if Legoshi continues to pursue his interspecies relationship with Haru. That is, a ruined family that is plagued with the loss (and, potentially the suicide) of Toki and Leano. In Toki's case, it is up to the reader's interpretation as to whether her final act -- kissing Gosha without anti-sceptic, and going the extra mile to throw away all the disinfectant he owns while knowingthat his venom is poisonous -- is one of love, or of suicide. Leano's suffering is likewise directly linked to being the child of an interspecies relationship.
The conflict of Legoshi's family has always been interspecies mixing. Though it's tempting to say that the issue is Gosha's species and its native venom, I could still see the family's tragedies playing out similarly.
After all, mixed-species relationships are heavily discouraged, and the children of those relationships even moreso.
Species Swap: Legoshi's Family
For the sake of answering this ask, I’ll run with the assumption that only the characters mentioned (Legoshi’s family, and Miyagi) were species-swapped, and that all other characters (Louis, Juno, et cetera) remain the same.
Parroting what I wrote in the previous section, the conflict of Legoshi’s family has always been interspecies mixing. Because of this, I don’t believe that the family’s tragedy would change. If anything, it would change forms. What do I mean by this?
Let’s look at Leano.
Leano, in the manga, was able to pass as a full blooded grey wolf for much of her youth. She locks herself in her room after her scales begin to develop, marking her as the half blood-mix she truly is.
In this alternate universe where Leano was always a Komodo dragon, perhaps she would have leaned more into her Komodo dragon heritage. In my mind, since venomous creatures are shunned by society, Leano would have been pushed into associating herself with her fellow Komodo dragons. We can go one step further and suggest that she did not inherit Gosha’s deadly venom – a trait that makes fraternising with others much, much easier. So, Leano has her Komodo dragon friends, and, as a result of being venomless, even manages to make a few non-reptilian friends, too.
Life goes great for her until two things happen: 1) Her fur begins to grow in and 2) Her venom, once non-existent, develops so that it is exceptionally strong. The social life she built crumbles.
And maybe Leano hears about Miyagi – an up and coming Komodo dragon actor who has no venom. Maybe, just maybe, Leano hooks up with him in the hopes that her child will be spared from developing venom. After all, venom only serves to drive others away from you: sitting at the back of restaurants, and always needing to be mindful of your emotions lest you accidentally kill someone…
If Leano could spare her child from that life, she’ll be satisfied.
The Beastars Manga as a Whole
It’s a bit trickier to determine how the rest of the manga would go. The main plot would remain the same, but certain points would not develop the same way. The best character I could use to explain my point is Juno.
In the manga, Juno begins to fall for Legoshi after he protects her from a pair of bullies. Her infatuation with him is also propelled by the fact that they are of the same species: they are both grey wolves. Juno also believes that it’s best if members of the same species stick together: grey wolves should marry other grey wolves, and rabbits should marry other rabbits.
And yet … making Legoshi a Komodo dragon doesn’t really impact his relationship with Juno. Hell, once Juno sets her sights on becoming the Beastar, being in an interspecies relationship might be good publicity for her, which could work towards her goal of making the world a better place for carnivores.

This is an interesting idea, because it also leads to the knock on effects. Firstly, Toki and Gosha swapping would probably mean it would be Gosha that died due to Toki's venom, so Legosi would have been brought up by his grandmother.
There's also the question of whether Leano would show visible hybridisation, or if that would be Legosi this time round. If Leano does, then I imagine her plot goes similarly to normal. Miyagi would be a deadbeat dad no matter what species he was, so if Leano is visibly hybrid then Legosi just gets raised by Toki.
If, on the other hand, Legosi is the one that shows visible hybrid signs, I can see his self esteem plummeting even further. Society's not kind to predatory carnivores as is, even less so to venomous ones, and now he's a hybrid to boot? And if it's very difficult to hide, I could see him just going full Melon over the unfairness of it all.
A bit further down the line: Jack would have no reason to be jealous of Komodo Dragon Legosi, the inferiority complex just isn't there and their friendship doesn't form as strongly. Maybe they're casual acquaintances, but that would probably be it, especially without the canine pack bond instinct.
Obviously Legosi doesn't go to 701 at Cherryton, if he goes to Cherryton at all, so he wouldn't meet any of the others. As a result, his support structure is literally Toki. And that's it. And since I could see Legosi, in his grief-stricken mind, blaming Toki for Gosha and Leano's deaths in this timeline, he could very easily just run away from home.
No options, the entire world hating his existence, I think it would be very easy for him to go down Melon's path somehow. Maybe stopping in with the Dokugumi, since they kind of are willing to accept him, but even then his hybrid traits always "other" him, even there.
I can't see any way this ends well for poor Legosi. But it's definitely an interesting universe, I might expand some of these ideas in later posts.

I revisited "Beastars" chapters 176-179 where Legosi fights with Dokugumi (Comodo dragon mafia) and I have a lot to say about it.
For now I want to write about their's boss name. I'm guessing that Savon is his original name, not translated one. Another example of a name with deep meaning in "Beastars".
I'm pretty sure that when this part of story gets animated Netflix translation will butcher this name too.
We'll probably get a bunch of anime-only fans calling him Sabonu 🙃

Quarantined Turf War
This is an idea I’ve had for several months now-like what if, due to a ‘certain world crises that is going on in real life’ the Turf War has to take place on a video chat? I haven’t written anything of this idea yet as I have no real plot to this one-shot, but here are some highlights I have so far:
- Ten gets hit in the head by a roll of toilet paper (thrown by one of her fellow foxes).
- Gosha is entranced by the filters/icon edits(?) and ends up having a donut with his face on it as his video icon and can’t figure out how to fix it.
- The Shishigumi are all drunk/high and Melon has to be the voice of reason (which he hates!) and I quote: “Why the flying f*ck would you do that??!!” (yelled/asked when Free comes to him with a very bizarre problem)
- On that note, Sabu and Jinma decide they want to watch a horror movie/Game of Thrones (thought up because my sister and dad have been watching that a lot lately) and Agata is too scared to watch it so he goes crying to Melon.

“I thought you didn’t care, Boss!”
“I don’t! But Agata’s annoying whining becomes my problem! Now change the damn channel”
- On the same note, Dolph comes up with a new nicknmae for Melon! Much to his annoyance: “Mello!...Yellow Mello!...Jello Mello!...Yellow jello Mello! Mello-lo-jello-yellow-Mellomellomellomello!”
- And also, Miguel takes Hino’s enchilada-Melon has to yell: “GIVE HIM THE ENCHILADA!”
- Yahya is high voiced due to a helium tank breaking in the air vents of the police building. He later throws his laptop out the window in a fit of rage.
- A video of Oguma dancing is found (he is either dancing to Gangman style or doing the dance from the Take on Me videos on YouTube) and Louis is both embaressed and shocked at how well his father can dance.
- A debate as to how one could overdose on Laxitives and if one’s colon could explode if that happens (instead of dying).
- (not as sure about this one but) Yahya’s mother somehow finds the chat and joins it to harass Yahya for never marrying or giving her grandchildren before calling Gosha a talking donut and Melon a half pizza face (or just insulting Melon and Legosi as hybrids) while Yahya’s father does something stupid in the background while naked (this would likely be why Yahya throws his laptop out the window).
- On that note, Yahya’s mother thinks Gosha and Yahya are ‘back together’-she’s fine with it, but only if they swore they’d adopt horse children (she just wants Yahya to get married and have kids, she doesn’t care who he marries or how he has kids)-uncomfortable and awkward silence follows.
- One of Legosi’s neighbor’s has a loud and very weird phone conversation outside of his door and everyone can hear it. Whatever it is, it leaves them speechless. Also, his (new) pet beetle crawls over the webcam, freaking out/startling everyone else.
- Two of Savon’s fellow Komodo dragons get into a heated argument, causing him to intervene. It’s what they were arguing about thats baffling.
This would be a parody of the 180′s and 190′s chapters (though some characters/chapters would not appear/be mentioned in it (glaring at chapter 181 and Melon’s father) and would be, basically, be about Beastars characters in quarentine (COVID would not be mentioned in the fic-except as ‘this virus’ and the fic is not at all meant to make fun of COVID or anyone effected by it-this is just a ‘life in quarentine’ take on the Turf War).
All characters belong to Beastars (Except for Yahya’s parents, I made them up!)

Hi what do you think the relationship between the reader and Savon, who is the dragon of the chest of drawers and lives next to the black market?
I will do my best! Given that this is sort of a vague description of the reader, it'll be more general headcanons of SavonxReader that's also a komodo than anything else

Savon is a reptile, so he's not very snuggly and cuddly, and not big on PDA. He does have his moments
Given that you're also a Komodo Dragon, he feels pretty comfortable with you. You two can share food, and understand how warm blooded animals can...actually be a lot colder than reptiles.
Savon isn't big on cooking, but like soups that warm someone from the inside out
Heat. Lamps.
Savon keeps you out of his gang business as much as possible. He doesn't need you interfering or getting hurt. That being said, his gang is aware of you. Komodo dragons may not be uncommon, but there's not a lot of them, and has a general rule they look after you when Savon is busy
Savon will, and has, killed for you. He wont tell you about it but he has.
Savon is pretty calm and collected, and isn't big on tons of emotion. He doesn't get excited easy but that doesn't mean he doesn't care.
Likes to bring you blankets and other things to keep you warm when it's chilly.
Doesn't take you out on many dates, but he will make an effort to do so at least once a month
While he's not a big talker, once he does get going, expect a talk that's long and deep. If he's going to talk, it's going to be meaningful.
