Based in Berlin since 2011, Don The Tiger takes inspiration from everything he misses in that city -be it rumba, MPB, bolero, baroque fantasy, guabina, torch songs, copla or Fania Records- and channels it through elaborate sampling techniques and musique concrète outbursts, delivering it with a drive akin to flamenco or rockabilly.
In his latest live appearances, Don The Tiger delves into how his performances can simultaneously embrace the participatory, the portable and the sustainable. Using multiple FM transmitters, he occupies specific FM frequencies to amplify his sources and mics, allowing attendees carrying an FM radio to actively participate in the shaping of the music. The unrestricted use of the radios in the space enables attendees to play with sonic phenomena such as reverberation, delay, distortion, interference or feedback, creating an unpredictable and unique sonic context for the performance.
Besides a bunch of untraceable tapes and cdrs, Don The Tiger has released two LPs to date -"Varadero" (2013, Canada) and "Matanzas” (2018, Crammed Discs)- and has been featured in media such as The Wire, Tiny Mix Tapes, PopMatters, Vinyl District, WFMU or Battiti.

I had 180+ foals born today. Here's a few of the highlights! I had a few foals that are cool because of stats rather than appearance.
First up, we have a zebra that has 'quagga' markings. In this cage, that's a combination of genes. I used to breed them regularly but I took a break and most of my zebras got too old to breed so I feared I lost the gene. This is my first quagga born since restarting! Very exciting!
Next is a Poitou Donkey. She was a big surprise because she's a different color than every other Poitou. Apparently it's rare for them to be this color, so I'm excited to see if I can get more.
Then we have a mule that has really cool markings!
And then a Zorse! The mother is a Przewalski Horse and the father is a zebra. I think it turned out very cute! I actually had two of these but they're identical so I only posted one.
Then we have a mixed breed horse that turned out BEAUTIFULLY. Her father is Ghost, my Friesian cross, and her mother is an Artistic Baroque (a madeup breed with funky conformation). She's so stunning and she has blue eyes! I love her!!!
Next is a Pintabian! An arabian with pinto markings! Also, you may notice it's very very small. I'm breeding miniature arabians and that's one of them!
The next one may not look like much, but she's a very very fast donkey. I'm breeding for donkeys to be fast enough to be worth riding. Most donkeys in Horse Isle don't go more than 15mph, but this little girl, when she's grown, will be able to go 16mph! That's the fastest I've gotten so far! Also weirdly, her mother is just a random wild-caught donkey with funky conformation. I almost didn't keep her. I'm glad I did because she gave me one of my best donkeys!
The last two are from my 'fast horse' line. I'm breeding a line of horses that go decently fast (19-20mph) and have neat colors. The purpose of this line is mainly to eventually cross with my fast zebras and fast donkeys to make high quality hybrids. Because of that, I mainly aim to breed colors that cross well with donkeys and zebras, namely dun. Here are the two most flashy foals I got from that line today.

my most cancellable opinion in the horse world is i think we should stop trying to make baroque pintos a thing. they're long backed and a mutt at that. tired of people basically breeding for colour rather than conformation and ability

Today's Flickr photo with the most hits: the Auberge de Castille, Valletta, Malta. Built in the Baroque style under the magistracy of Manuel Pinto da Fonseca in the 1740s, it replaced a 1574 building erected to house knights of the Order of Saint John from the langue of Castile, León and Portugal.

Roxolana in European literature, history and culture
Summary"This collection is the first book-length scholarly study of the pervasiveness and significance of Roxolana in the European imagination. Roxolana, or 'Hurrem Sultan', was a sixteenth-century Ukrainian woman who made an unprecedented career from harem slave and concubine to legal wife and advisor of the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent (1520-1566). Her influence on Ottoman affairs generated legends in many a European country. The essays gathered here represent an interdisciplinary survey of her legacy; the contributors view Roxolana as a transnational figure that reflected the shifting European attitudes towards 'the Other', and they investigate her image in a wide variety of sources, ranging from early modern historical chronicles, dramas and travel writings, to twentieth-century historical novels and plays. Also included are six European source texts featuring Roxolana, here translated into modern English for the first time. Importantly, this collection examines Roxolana from both Western and Eastern European perspectives; source material is taken from England, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Turkey, Poland, and Ukraine. The volume is an important contribution to the study of early modern transnationalism, cross-cultural exchange, and notions of identity, the Self, and the Other". -- from back cover.

Got them back!
Featuring: Erin Murphy, Lana Marino, BOE Ronan and BOE Izak.
Years ago we were breeding Friesians and Baroque Pintos, but because we needed to downsize (haha, we never did) we had to sell out of them. We kept Fito as the only friesian, but sold all the others.
But now they are back! Or well, some of them are.
Yesterday we saw two of our offsprings for sale on some site, and decided that we needed them back.
So give a warm welcome to Ronan(Baroque Pinto) and Izak (Friesian)! The stallions has been living at different stables, but recognized each other, as soon as they saw each other! The boys who grew up together had clearly missed each other.
So Erin, our dressage rider/instructor, and Lana, our general horsetrainer, was out seeing what they could do. They moved like heaven, and are ready for the higher classes in dressage with the double bridle they had been trained with at the old owners' places.
Lana isn't exactly a dressage rider for higher classes, but Erin, being the lovely woman she is and also an instructor, helped Lana and they looked great together!
