Just saw a post about cropping dog ears, so here are two other dog breeding practices that I think people should be more aware of. All these are abuse btw and do absolutely indicate backyard breeders. Also, I have experience with rough collies, so please correct me if I make mistakes and if something I say is only applicable to collies.
Number one: breeding two merled dogs together. The merled gene is an overlay, not a coat color. This means it’s a gene that goes on top of a regular color that makes the color look different. This is natural by itself and many dog breeds have this. Many people also think it looks prettier, and will go out of their way to buy merled dogs. This means that many breeders will breed two merled dogs together, to get more merled dogs. What’s abusive about this is that if a puppy happened to inherit the two merled genes, it will cause severe damage to the dog’s eyes and ears. Any good breeder knows this, so breeding two merles together anyway is abuse. This does NOT mean that any breeder that has merled puppies is abusive, but if both parents are merled, it is abuse. The picture below is of a merled collie btw (blue merle).
Number two: not doing genetic testing. Breeding dogs without knowing or considering what can be passed down to the puppies is abuse, and an unethical business practice. Unlike number one, buying from a breeder that doesn’t do genetic testing means that you can end up with an aggressive, sick, or severely impaired dog. This is also a good way to tell if you are buying from a puppy mill or not!

will you breed to any grade mare? "Yes of course. It's better to go to a stud that's already been fully tested. It's more responsible." Fuck offfffffffff

We're probably going to order chicks this weekend or early next week. 14yo's first choice is sadly not available for the dates we're looking at. So his pick is now the mottled ancona. 11yo holding firm to Rhode Island red, although he is sad that his second choice, buff silkie, is not available for the dates we're looking at either. I am still set on cream legbar. My second choice is still undecided, waiting to see what husband picks. But I am sad that bielefelders and buckeyes are not available for our dates either.

The culture of that kind of extreme bully breeding comes from a long history of black exploitation and racism so I'm sure the person making casual p*do jokes will handle that topic with the utmost racial sensitivity.
Spoiler: they didn't

So, I’ve been on a Coral Island kick. My farmer gets letters from their grandparents and they’re always giving updates on “Ashley”. I believe Ashley is their cat. They’ve already mentioned Ashley and kittens and now they’ve just sent another letter with a “PS Ashley is pregnant!”
All I can think is, as an animal professional and playing a farmer who is dating Mark—who volunteers at the local animal shelter)—JFC get Ashley spayed 🤦🏼♀️😂

terfs go climb into a hole and start rotting. animals cannot inherently tell your "biological sex" you are all so fucking stupid. All this post is saying is that animals are not infallible judges of character and some of them make really stupid vibe checks and that people should try not to take it personally. Unless youre a terf in which case they know and they hate you and you should take it personally
re that one post tbh i do want to stress i dont think animals are like magically psychic at knowing your True Gender tbh i think ppl definitely get way too weird about Animal's judgement of ppl.
Sometimes a dog will vibe check a man and the dog will be right and you should listen. but sometimes the dog will vibe check someone for no good reason. sometimes dogs have wack judgement. sometimes dogs have biases influenced by their owners or previous owners. like. there are Racist Dogs. its not the dogs fault, but that doesnt make the bias theyve developed less real, or less potentially hurtful. i dont think we need to like, Cancel Dogs Bc Sometimes Ppl Can Train Them To Be Racist, but we do need to stop perpetuating the idea that a dog's judgement of someone is infallible. theyre not responsible for it and its not their fault its developed, theyre just dogs, they didnt choose it, but that doesnt mean theyre RIGHT lmao. i think its important to stress this for many reasons but in regard to that last post specifically, if youve ever been vibe checked as a gender you arent by a judgy dog its literally not your fault. might not even be the owners fault. not the dogs fault cos like. its a fucking dog. you do kinda have to be the bigger person in that scenario cos the other person is. A Dog.

SORRY HOLD ON I JUST HAD AN EPIPHANY
there are at LEAST two separate occasions where Simon refers to an organism with its scientific name (the spider in chipwrecked & wolfsbane in meet the wolfman) so now I’m simply convinced that this kid has a special interest in flora and fauna………he and Jeanette get to very excitedly ramble about how cool bugs are together <3

Horse breeders use ANY stud nowadays that's just a genetically worthy bay challenge. No huge white splashes, no paint, no appaloosa, no palomino.
Couldn't find a breeder outside of the racetrack that could do it if their life fucking depended on it. Thought we all grew up and stopped mass breeding shit horses with color. This "industry" is so fucking heartless and greedy I hate backyard breeders

My chicks are almost 4 weeks old and have feathered out beautifully. It was the first time I incubated and watched them hatch and enter the world.
Black Cochin or Black Cochin mix.
