I ❤️ Penguins 🐧 Where are they?
The cutest little animal in the world has to be the penguin. Don't you wish you could visit them? In this post I share all about the penguins and where you can find them.
The first time I saw a penguin wasn’t in Antarctica. Is that a surprise? I thought they were only found in Antarctica. The opposite may be actually true. Despite there being millions of penguins in Antarctica they are not endemic to Antarctica, but instead found in the countries that border the icy continent all the way up to Galapagos at the equator. There are invasive species just about everywhere these days, but Australia's native fauna have been especially hit hard. While the continent has some native mammalian predators, it lacks the sheer number and diversity of predatory species found in many other areas. The vacuum left when native predators were eradicated in large areas of their ranges by European colonists left the door open even wider to invasive predators like foxes, rats, weasels, and feral dogs and cats.
These non-native mammals have contributed to the extinction of several of the 100 Australian species that have gone extinct in the past 230 years. Many more are threatened with extinction due to ongoing predation by invasive animals, among other environmental pressures.
Predator-proof fences like those used to protect the Eden colony of kororā/little penguins (Eudyptula minor) are one of the tools conservationists have used to create safe spaces for endangered species. By keeping invasive predators out, the fence in Eden now gives the reintroduced penguins a fighting chance. Unfortunately, fences also keep individual populations of animals separated, which can decrease genetic diversity. The fences are a short-term solution, but continuing eradication of invasive species will likely be necessary in order to allow native Australian wildlife to thrive outside of these artificially delineated havens.

(ik this guy is joking but i wanted to give it a ago)
Explanation and Location⬇️
ALPHABETICAL ORDER
Anaheim Ducks: Barcelona, Spain. Tbh I wanted the same vibe of california having 3 teams, so i chose Spain.
Arizona Coyotes (pls im still in morning): Slovenia probably Ljubljana (the capital). But i feel like a team in slovenia wouldn't work (fuck that hurt to type --yotes OP)
Boston Bruins: Amsterdam, Netherlands. same vibe for some reason
Buffalo Sabres: Tiran, Italy. Its near the alps (and italy is my new york)
Calgary Flames: Latvia was calling to me
Carolina Hurricanes: Bulgaria was calling to me
Chicago Blackhawks: was originally in Berlin but then i changed it to Austria :)
Colorado Avalanches: Switzerland is known for its alps and has the most avalanches of any country within europe
Columbus Blue Jackets: I feel like people would forget that Romania has a hockey team (sorry columbus & romania)
Dallas Stars: SCOTLAND!!
Detroit Red Wings: Czechia was calling to me
Edmonton Oilers: I wanted to put it in Sweden but i wanted to keep the battle of Alberta alive so i put that bitch in Estonia so we can have the battle of the Baltics instead (sorry lithuania)
Florida Panthers: Athens Greece
Los Angeles Kings: Madrid Spain. (same reasoning as the ducks)
Minnesota Wild: if i think forest in europe I think Poland, so i put that bitch in Poland 👍
Montréal Canadiens: Paris france (quebec pls dont kill me)
Nashville Predators: Slovakia was calling to me
New Jersey Devils: was originally in belgium but i put that bitch in Luxembourg (wait till the caps for more of an explanation)
New York Islanders: Sicily because it is (technically) an island in italy but i really wanted to put that bitch in the Faroe Islands
New York Rangers: Rome Italy (italy is my new york)
Ottawa Senators: Helsinki (finland) was calling to me
Philadelphia Flyers: Berlin Germany (Germany is my pennsylvania)

Vegas Golden Knights: Serbia was calling to me
Washington Capitals: if you search up where the european union meet they meet in Belgium

The south-eastern shores of Granite Island, South Australia, taken whilst clambering across the boulders in search of little penguin burrows for an annual census. My team didn't end up finding any active burrows (in general they're a lot less common on this side of the island nowadays) although we did find one with hatched eggs and a ton of down.
Also apologies for not posting much here but currently I am being slaughtered by uni work

So it’s official I’m pissed Australia not only has the cuter care bears but now they’re getting the Carebear cousins and we’re just getting new bears. They pulled out of thin air. That’s designs aren’t worth crap.
