hello! what is your favorite frog and also dinosaur (can be multiple)
Today’s favourite frog is Atelopus igenscens
[src]
Because I found a jar of them (I think) on the shelf in the museum today. Sitting there for decades without having been identified. Meanwhile, they’ve been declared extinct and then rediscovered again.
Favourite dinosaurs today are buttonquail chicks (multiple, preferably cupped in the hand).

Amphibiuary 2024 Day 10: Yellow
A Panamanian golden frog in this lineless style I'm still messing with. Added a bit more of my white highlighter pen but I do think it takes away from the lineless feel a bit so I might just keep it to little eye shines from now on.

Clown Frog
AKA Costa Rican Variable Harlequin Toad, Atelopus varius
A very pretty and funny pal!!
Clown frogs have all sorts of colorations, with some having yellow or orange or greenish markings, but some being a pretty purple!!
They range from South and Central America, generally in rocky streams or mountainous forests. They're pretty slow, and don't like going in the water! Like most colorful frogs, they are poisonous!
Their population is declining, either due to climate factors or to a pathogenic fungus. But they've been successfully bred in captivity in 2021! Hopefully they make a comeback.

• The variable harlequin frog (Atelopus varius)•
(I just had to add multiple pics cause look at these guys)
fun fact: Dorsal color is usually black or brown overlaid with a mosaic of spots and streaks that can be almost any combination of orange, red, yellow, blue, or green earning them the nickname “clown frogs.” A deadly infectious disease called chytridiomycosis is an important reason for the rapid disappearance of this species from the Costo Rican forests.

Done in gouache and pastel pencils on pastelmat.
