2024 affirmation: I will not dislocate my knee
#genuinely will be my thirteenth reason if this happens again and i’m not joking#i don’t think most of the people in my life get it. they don’t get what it’s like for every single step you take to cause you pain#for MONTHS on end. this started in MAY#and they don’t get what it’s like to have pain when you’re just standing up. or to worry that your knee is randomly going to give out on you#and that that’s going to be it this time and you’re going to need a knee replacement#OR; maybe worse; that your Other knee which has never given you a single problem will suddenly decide to give out (maybe due to all the#strain that’s been on it) and you’ll have to walk like a crab until that one heals#or to wonder if you’re just malingering and being too lazy. meanwhile doing all the exercises that your physio recommends you#+ taking a pilates class + buying a walking pad and trying to walk on it 5 days a week#+ going on a diet; cutting down on salt and overly processed food in the hope it’ll give you more energy#so you can exercise more and drop some excess weight so there’s maybe less strain on your knees and ankles#(or at the very least build muscle rather than fat so that the muscles are just better)#not to mention that nobody knows what the fuck is wrong with me. x-ray came back clear apart from ‘fluid on the knee’#which by the way - has never actually gone away? that x-ray happened on the 5th of july. i’d been injured for 6 weeks already by then#i still get this godawful like.. almost Bubble of fluid on the top right of my kneecap whenever i’ve been walking a lot#coming up on five months and i still have swelling. why. i’ve iced it into fucking oblivion#my doctor thought i had a hamstring tear. nope. my physio can’t find anything structurally wrong with me#we fixed the quad lag and my complete lack of ability to straighten the leg#but i still have pain and i still have discomfort and i still limp and i still feel like my kneecap is floating in a fucking soup#at this point i wonder if i have arthritis and nobody has noticed. the knee is crunchy. 🥴#all of it just makes me feel like i’m going insane. i fell and i was like ‘oh i’ll be fine in two weeks’#two weeks later i couldn’t even walk unassisted. like.#what did i doooooooo. why does no one seem to know. why does nothing show up on tests. idgi#personal#rant

Apologies if you don't do this kinda stuff, and will understand if you don't
But I've recently been diagnosed with PsA (arthritis). And I was wondering how maybe Sniper or Engie would react to an s/o that has worsened joint pain in the winter (but hates admitting to it).
I've been looking for days for someone to do this, so if you by someone miracle do, thank you thank you thank you!!! Greatly appreciate it
I hope that this post doesn’t disappoint, as I know somewhat how you feel, I suffer from bad chronic pains as well and it sucks, but I sincerely hope that this will make you feel at least a tiny bit better, arthritis really is a bitch <3
Masterlist
A/N: I also chose to just write for Sniper, if that’s okay, as I feel I can write his character slightly better than Engie’s
———————————————————
Sniper with an S/O who has arthritis
Sniper gets his fair share of aches and pains. Due to him being freakishly tall and having to stand in one place during a match holding up a heavy rifle, so he’s very sympathetic towards you and your situation
He knows how to handle and deal with the pain though, so when you tell him you suffer with arthritis, he will definitely be more attentive to you, and gives his own advice on how to ease it
Will always have a heat pad or tens machine on hand just in case you desperately need it
If it’s particularly bad in the mornings and/or evenings he will sit in bed with you and massage your joints, and hum in quiet acknowledgment when you thank him
However, when it comes up to winter time, and you start to notice increased flares of the pain due to the cold weather, you feel it best to not bother him about it
He has a lot on his plate already and he’s helped you so much in the past, you can handle it by yourself
But Sniper’s not blind, he’s a Sniper for a reason.
He notices how you wince slightly when reaching for something high up, or how you take a breather before getting up and out of bed in the mornings, he notices you discreetly massaging your knees and shoulders when you think nobody is looking - and he doesn’t like it
He gets a pang of concern each time he witnesses this but doesn’t think to confront you about it, he has no reason to tell you what to do as you know whats best for your body, so he reluctantly leaves it at that
It’s only about a week later when he finds you hunched over and crying in the training room, weakly massaging your skin through teary eyes.
His eyes widen and he drops everything to immediately rush to your side, panic stricken as he crouches down to your level asking what happened and which wanker he has to kill-
When you tell him that it’s just your arthritis flaring up he’s slightly confused. You knew how to deal with it, why is it suddenly getting the better of you? Is something else the cause of this pain? Oh my god what if there’s something else-
He lets out a quiet “oh” after you explain that it just gets worse in the cold winter, that’s all
As relieved as he is to know it’s not anything to worry too much about, he is slightly irked by the fact you didn’t feel the need tell him about how much pain you were in, you are important to him, and seeing you in pain like this stresses him out
But after this he’s extra attentive towards you and your needs, not to the point of suffocation, but he constantly makes an effort to keep you warm when it gets especially cold, so the pain isn’t unbearable. This means you get to wear his jacket a lot. He pretends he’s annoyed by this as he hands it over, clicking his tongue when you thank him, but you have eyes, and those eyes are seeing an embarrassingly red faced Sniper
He makes sure to do all of the work that may be slightly too labour intensive for you, or at least he make someone else do it. The last thing he wants is for you to overwork yourself and end up in more pain. However, if you feel like you can, he will let you do your thing, he’s protective, but not controlling.
He will run lots of warm baths for you if and when you ask and tries his best to massage your aching joints when you need
He’s just a big softy <3
