Eventful Lazy Days
Guardians of the Galaxy
Rocket, Groot and Peter (Drax and Gamora mentioned)
Word Count: 1885
It was Rockets turn to cook dinner, things don't go exactly as planned.
It’d been a quiet day on the Milano, no one really knew why though. But it was nice to have a lazy day sometimes- there isn’t a need to save the galaxy every day. Each member of the team had managed to entertain themselves just fine.
Gamora, being the masterful assassin she is, researched any possible enemies they could obtain in the foreseeable future- her fantastic initiative was one of her best assets.
Drax, spent his time in the small training room on the ship, punching a fighting whatever he felt like to become stronger than he already is (if that’s even possible).
Peter… well, no one ever really knows what the self-proclaimed “Starlord” is doing. He’d most likely spent a majority of the day grooving along to the Awesome Mix Vol.2 whilst looking up possible jobs the guardians’ team could go on; the only jobs they take are the ones that pay big credits.
Groot still wasn’t quite fully grown. The flora colossus was almost at full size once more, but he wasn’t back to full strength at all. So on these lazy days the team have on rare occasions, Groot happily watches Rocket tinker with whatever new thing the raccoon is building whilst sitting under a sun lamp said raccoon built for him.
No one knew, or really wanted to know what Rocket was building; and if he was being completely honest, sometimes even Rocket didn’t know what he was building (but he’d never tell anyone that). The raccoon just had to be doing something with his hands almost 24/7 or else he would “get bored and start blowing shit up”- as he puts it.
This particular lazy day was near to ending, and it was Rockets turn to cook dinner for the team- although they’d rather not eat his cooking, everyone has to do their fair share around the ship no matter how bad they are at certain jobs.
Peter is the best chef, Drax doesn’t understand most jobs but he is surprisingly good at sewing, Gamora can navigate the ship better than anyone else and Rocket is obviously the best mechanic. On the other hand, Groot just tries his best at everything- with less than satisfactory results… but he always looks so proud of himself after so no one can really get mad with him.
From the kitchen on the ship, the loud bangs of pots and pans being thrown around could be heard (Rocket always liked to make his disdain for cooking very apparent). Peter normally could ignore when someone was having issues in the kitchen, because whenever he tired to help he’d always just end up just cooking the whole meal instead. No one would learn anything that way. But after the last disaster of a meal Rocket had created Peter couldn’t really let it happen again. The team had been out of commission for a week with food poisoning. How Rocket managed to do that with a salad they’ll never know.
Quill sighed and prepared himself for the disaster sight he was about to witness in the kitchen.
There were small fires basically everywhere but the stove, suspicious looking green goop splattered on the walls and a pile of dirty pots and pans taller than Quill himself (since when did they even own that many pans!?). Groot stood watching Rocket, not looking best pleased.
Rocket sat on the floor with a knife trying to cut some strange looking vegetable, his ears pricked up when he heard Peter enter. “Ah Star-looser! Looking to see a true master at work?” he grinned his usual sarcastic grin. Rocket knew he was no good at cooking, in fact he made an effort to be even worse in the hopes that the rest of the team will stop putting him on this job all together. He stood up and walked over to a pot containing… Well it was certainly something- whether or not it was edible was another matter entirely.
“If you’re a master than I must be some kind of god.” Quill rolled his eyes and looked in to the pot his team mate was stirring, the urge to vomit washed over him just looking at the concoction. “What are you even making there?”
Rocked laughed “Heck if I know. I feel like I could use it in some new corrosive bombs or something honestly.” he pulled the spoon out of the concoction to show it fizzing dissolving slowly “Powerful stuff- probably got a kick to it!”
Groot who had been stood in the corner frowning at his companion decided to comment here “I am Groot.”
“What? I’m not trying to get Quill to cook for me! Unless he’s offering that is.” Rocket smiled slyly at Peter “I’m sure we’re all looking forward to eating- whatever this is.”
“I’m not going to cook for you.” Peter started down at Rocket, this was one fight he wouldn't loose.
“I am Groot” Groot smiled.
“Don’t take his side!” Rocket thew his arms in the air in exasperation “You seriously want to chance eating this garbage?” He waved the dissolving spoon in front of Quill’s nose.
Peter pushed the spoon away quickly “No way. But I can help you make something new. That you know- wouldn't kill us all.” he offered.
“I don’t need help, either I cook the whole thing, or you do.” Rocked growled.
Peters eyes darted from Rocket to the pot. His stomach growled lightly. He groaned outwardly in annoyance “Fine! Whatever! I’ll cook the meal.”
“I am Groot!”
“See? I told you I’d get my way” Rocket exclaimed at Groot “That’s fifty credits you owe me!”
“I am Groot.” Groot glared at both Peter and Rocket.
“Yeah yeah, just get out of the way.” Peter said angrily. Then, without thinking he picked Rocket up by the scruff of his neck, like you would a pet. He hadn't meant too, his stomach was telling his mind to just make some decent food, telling him he needed to move Rocket. It was in his muscle memory somehow.
Of course this was a mistake.
Rocket cried out in pain as he landed on the floor, falling to his knees straight away and clutching at the back of his neck. His teeth were grit together harshly as he tried to see through the black spots of pain that were clouding his vision. Unable to produce any form of sound but pained wines.
“I am Groot!” Groot was at his side immediately trying to calm Rocket down and find out what he can do to help.
Everything had happened so quickly that Peter hadn't realized what he’d done. He took a moment of stunned silence for him to put the pieces of what had just happened together. He knelt next to his smaller team mate “I’m sorry man, I’m so sorry. God I completely forgot about-” he stopped, his eyes catching the red raw skin around the others cybernetic enhancements.
Suddenly he felt like one hundred percent a dick.
“I am Groot” Groot said saddly, not liking to see his friend in such a bad way.
Rocket heaved a few deep breaths “Y’know- If you wanted… to cook that bad I’d’ve moved.” he gritted painfully squeezing his eyes shut “What the hell Quill?!” he managed to yell. “You caught me, right on the…” He trailed off and banged a fist on the floor. Most of his cybernetic enchantments were connected to the top of his spine, making that his most vulnerable area, pulling at that made it feel as though the wounds were fresh once again.
“I know, I know I shouldn't have. What can I do?” Peter fussed, desperate to stop the pain he’d caused his friend.
“I am Groot.” Groot explained. Peter wished he could understand him.
“He- said get some ice and painkillers.” Rocket said sounding calmer than he should be, but it was still clear from his tense muscles that he was most certainly not calm.
“I’m on it.” Quill nodded “Groot you take him to his bedroom. I’ll be there soon.”
“I am Groot.”
Peter had taken the ice and painkillers to the room without really saying anything. He felt really guilty- that was the kind of thing you did to an annoying pet- not a close friend. His stomach growled again but he didn’t feel like eating.
He knew someone who might appreciate a well cooked meal though.
Quill knocked on Rockets room door, tray in hand with the only recipe he could remember from Terran: Vegetable Soup.
“I am Groot.” came the answer from the other side of the door. Now this could have meant ‘come in’ or ‘go away’, Peter chose for it to mean the former. He opened the door slowly “Hey Guys…”
“Oh look its my good friend Quill” Rocked practically snarled.
“I am Groot.” Groot scolded him gently for being rude.
“What? The guy treats me like some ratty pet and throws me to the ground and you expect me to be nice?” Rocket folds his arms.
“I said I was sorry-” Quill defended “-and I really meant it Rocket. Its not often I’m honest. But I really didn’t mean to hurt you.” He could see that the raccoon wasn’t listen to him though “So-” he began, approaching Rockets bed with the tray “I made you dinner, as a peace offering.” he smiled sheepishly.
Rocket ignored Peter and the food at first, but then his nose picked up the delicious smell of the soup and he looked at the bowl with furrowed eyebrows.
Groot nudged Rockets arm lightly “I am Groot.”
Rocket sighed dramatically and accepted the soup from Peter, he didn't eat it just yet though, he looked down at it sadly “I didn’t expect you of all people to treat me like that Quill.” he said quietly. Seeing rocket without his usual bravado was odd to say the least, it didn’t suit him at all.
“It wont ever happen again I promise.” Peter almost looked as if he’d never been more serious about anything in his life.
He’d never purposefully hurt his friends.
“Fine.” Rocket accepted then started to eat the soup “You really are a good cook Quill…” Rocket said begrudgingly “-Maybe I could learn a thing or two from you.”
Groot smiled warmly at his companion then looked at Peter with the same bright eyes.
“Well you wont find a better teacher in the whole galaxy.” Peter smiled. “and I’d be happy to teach you.”
Rocket nodded, then was thoughtful for a moment “Hey, what did you do with my cooking anyway?”
“You mean that battery acid? Threw it out the air lock before it could contaminate anything in the ship.”
“What! I wanted to use that in my next bomb!” Rocket seemed genuinely annoyed about this “What if someone else finds it and makes something out of it? They’ll be unstoppable!”
“I think it will kill them on contact” Peter quipped.
“I am Groot.”
“Whatever, I’ll just have to make it again.” Rocket said as he ate some more of his soup.
Groot and Peter shared a look- a silent agreement to never let that happen, one pot of that stuff was more than enough.
Something was always happening on the Milano, even the lazy days were eventful.
I Hope you enjoyed it! Please like/comment/re-blog to let me know your thoughts! This was originally posed to Ao3 in 2017.

Hunger Games! au | Park Woojin
Tumblr media
*tell me if you want any other wanna one member/ produce 101 contestants to be done!
*incredibly long prepare for that/ probably going to split this into multiple parts if you want
part 1
part 2
part 3
part 4
you were in district 11 the agriculture district
it was the 80th annual hunger games and saying you were nervous was a complete understatement
your mom smiled brightly at you, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear, “dont worry sweetie, your name is only in there 5 times. there is no way you will be picked.”
you wanted to be positive
you honestly did but you couldnt help but feel that knot in your stomach and chest
it meant something bad was going to happen
but you pushed it aside to give your mom one last smile
“well, let’s hope i dont get picked.” you lean down and give her a peck on the cheek before walking out of your front door
-
“lee daehwi! get over here!” you screamed out once you saw your best friend walking in front of you
he turned around and broke into a huge smile as he noticed it was you
daehwi has been your best friend since the day you opened your eyes basically
both of your parents were extremely close in middle and high school, so naturally the two of you got to be close
daehwi was the light of your life tbh
he made you happy when you felt sad or insecure
everything about him was amazing
he felt the same way about you too
nothing could come between this very real and beautiful relationship
not even the stupid hunger games
“______,” daehwi grips onto your forearm when the reaping center comes into view
you grab his thin hand turning towards him with a reassuring smile
“don’t worry daehwi, you will be fine”
daehwi turns towards you with pitiful eyes
“but will you be okay?”
damn
that hit a spot in your heart
“of course i will be, we are fine every single year. let’s just get this oer with.”
daehwi gives you a bright smile that immediately puts you at ease
once you go to the center, you and daehwi are split, like every single year
that is when the nerves really kick in
you look up front where the representative from the capitol would be standing and notice a huge bowl instead of two medium sized bowls
before you could question it further, the birghtly colored woman steps onto the stage
you zone out slightly, not caring what she has to say
but something does catch your attention
“this year we will have two tributes, per usual, but they could either be both boys or both girls or boys and girls! isn’t that wonderful?”
she claps excitedly but your head shoots over to the male side and lock eyes with daehwi
his eyes show panic
“dont worry, you will be okay!” you mouth to him trying to calm your racing heart
“anyone can voluenteer too! now, let’s get on to the tributes!”
your heart starts to beat in your throat and your vision gets blurry
this happens every year
but this year, something feels off about it
“park woojin! park woojin!” the lady calls out
you let out a huge puff of air
“only one more to go, daehwi wont be chosen. calm down ____” you tap your arm slightly, trying to reassure yourself
you look up and see a strong looking teenager standing on stage
he was attractive, there is no denying that
he didn’t look scared in the least bit
honestly, he looked relieved
when the lady puts her hand back into the bowl, your palms start to sweat as you chant the mantra
“daehwi is fine, you are fine. daehwi is fine, you are fine. daehwi is fine, you are fine” over and over in your head
“lee daehwi! lee daehwi!”
your legs automatically collapse in shock
you saw all of the boys surronding daehwi part from him
blood rushes to your head, blurring your thought
the next thing you know is you are being pushed back by military guards while screaming, “i volunteer!”
you look at daehwi’s shocked face with tears running down your face
you just gave yourself a death sentence
and you couldn’t take it back
“oh! district 11′s first volunteer! come on up, sweetheart.” you pass by daehwi slowly as you walk up the stairs
he gives you a look of “what the actual hell was that” before you finally make it up the stairs and turn to the microphone
“what is your name?”
“______” you mumble, the adrenaline in your system dying down a bit
“what is daehwi to you?”
the question strikes you as you look at daehwi’s miserable;e expression
his expression shows that he knows you are going to die
he knows his best friend is about to die because of him basically
“daehwi is my best friend, i would trade my own life for him” he looks away from you as you mutter the sentence sadly into the microphone
you knew he was crying by the way his shoulders went up and down
“district 11′s tributes for the 80th annual hunger games, park woojin and _____!!”
no one clapped
as you were walking back stage, you could faintly hear daehwi outwardly sobbing which made your heart hurt, even more, knowing that was the last time you were ever going to see him
the lady, which you found her name was cheetah, loads you up on the train that will take you to the capitol
you and woojin sit in a suffocating silence as you look out the window
“listen,” woojin is the first the break the silence, “i will protect you until it is just the 2 of us, then it is game on. got it?”
he leans down, capturing your gaze
man, he was attractive
but all you wanted to do was you wipe that cocky expression right off of his attractive face
“who says i need your assistance?”
he scoffs, leaning back in the leather chair
“feisty, i like it.”
before you could bite back, cheetah comes rushing in with your mentor who your recognize to be ong seongwoo
ong seongwoo was ruthless
he went with his little sister to the hunger games and brutally murdered her in cold blood
they were one of the last ones
seongwoo and his little sister went down to the river to catch some fish and suddenly something in him snapped
he grabbed her by her throat and pushed her into the frigid water
he strangled her and drowned her all at once
when her body went limp in his hands, he climbed out of the freezing water and sat up against a rock
when the canon went off, that is when it clicked in his brain what he just did
then he went on an amazing killing spree and came out victorious
it gave you shivers down your spine just thinking about it
back then seongwoo was an attractive young man, around age 16 but now he looked depressed
he had huge bags under his eyes, his hair was messy and untamed, and he no longer supported that killer smile he was known for
“what advice do you have for us?” woojin asks, arms crossed in front of his chest
“dont get attached and kill without thinking.” seongwoo deadpans, grabbing a soju bottle and downing half like it was nothing
“kill without thinking?” you ask, looking over at woojin
it seemed he was confused about that part too
seongwoo leans down in front of you, giving you a condescending smirk
“kill people ruthlessly. dont think about their families or their life they had before that moment. kill with the thought that you will never see your precious little daehwi again.”
seongwoo laughed an empty laugh at your stoic expression before walking out of the room, leaving the three of you in an unbearable silence
(i know woojin wasnt in this much but this is only part one and if people like it i will make a part two :))

Just The Four Of Us
Having a fledgling around his house, as it turned out, wasn’t as easy as it had once been. Thinking back to when the others had been younger Michael was positive he’d had an easier time of dealing with them— a fact he blamed solely on being out of practice now. At any rate he was thankful for Lucifer and Raphael talking him down from thinking he could run Heaven on top of raising Anael seeing as he just couldn’t have done that.
As the week was drawing to a close Michael found himself looking forward to the dinner with the others. Lucifer had been by off and on, Raphael as well but having a full evening of just himself and the three of them was going to be nice.
Lucifer, are you bringing the stuff for dinner or do I need to go shopping?
Reaching out with his grace he found his link to Lucifer and pushed the thought along it. It’d been a while since he’d allowed himself to speak with Lucifer this way and had been toying with the idea of it all week long. Hopefully it didn’t startle the other angel, though if it did Michael was going to be disappointed he wasn’t present for the noise it was sure to produce.
Lucifer was shocked when he heard Michael’s voice in his head pushing through their link. There as a time when having Michael in his head as just like having a second thought in there. His brother was always there and it had just become second nature to hear him. When they had stopped taking things had gone silent and he hadn’t even given thought to Michael picking the link back up now that they were talking again. He wasn’t too proud to admit that it startled him.
I have the stuff at my place I thought I would bring it over when I was done here.
He sent the thought back through their link, waiving away the demons that stood around him waiting for work. It could wait; it wasn’t like any body was down here waiting for anything to happen it was Hell.
You will do anything so you don’t have to use the cell phone wont you?
He added teasing, shifting in his chair to drop his leg over the arm while he talked to Michael.
A grin spread over his lips at Lucifer’s answer back to him and the accusation that implied he was only reaching out now to avoid using that terrible device they called a phone. It was partially true, though with Anna in his arms he wasn’t sure how he was supposed to work the thing. This was just easier.
I am appalled at such an accusation…regardless of the truth to it.
Michael sent that thought through the prayer link towards Lucifer, amusement and happiness the trailing emotions that went with it. He had missed being able to do that, being able to have Lucifer at a moment’s notice regardless of what was happening around him.
When are you coming over? Having Anna might be full time work but it’s not always the most entertaining.
His own way of saying he needed attention and didn’t want to wait until their prescheduled dinner with their brothers to see Lucifer.
Lucifer’s nose wrinkled as he felt the emotions of his brother behind the words sent through the link. He hadn’t realized how much he missed being able to feel him like that. To hear him in his mind and feel the emotion behind the words was a nice treat and it tugged at the corner of his lips. He was glad he had sent the demons away, least the think he was getting soft.
Are you telling me that Ana is not up to full blown conversations on the politics of Heaven and Hell, here I assumed that was why dad gave her to you, least she bore some other poor angel to death.
It was teasing and he let the emotions trickle behind it as Michael had done hoping it hadn’t been an accident on the other angel’s part and also letting him know that it was a welcome addition to the conversation. Pushing himself from his chair, he grabbed his phone with the game he had been playing pushing the start button again so he could play while he moved himself with his wings and grace to Michael’s front door.
I am here but I am not stopping my game, I have four more goats to save, I will let you help if you want.
Michael outwardly laughed at Lucifer’s comeback and the teasing he could feel trailing behind the words in the emotion. He had missed him so much it was almost ridiculous, it was also ridiculous how easy it was to simply fall back in to this with him after so much time had passed.
With a flick of his grace he opened the door for Lucifer to come inside, before heading out into the living room. He’d been mostly keeping to his room as Ana napped that afternoon but it would be much quieter to be out there with Lucifer.
“What game are you playing? Goats makes it sound like it was made for you,” he said moving to edge in close to the other so he could look at what he was playing on his phone. Speaking of goats he wondered if Lucifer still had Goat, the first one he had ever made and grown far too attached to. “Do you still have goat? The game reminds me of her.”
Lucifer held the phone out a little so that Michael could see the game as he was playing, running his little goat covered in Christmas lights up and down the snow covered mountain, collecting grass and coins as he went.
“It was made for me, plus when I get 100 coins I can save another goat from the crate they are living in and return them to their homes,” he offered as he stepped away from Michael when he killed his goat, accidentally sending it jumping off the side of a mountain. Death by precipice.
“And of course I still have goat,” he said grinning, fingers snapping as he reached out to her, moving her to his house with his grace and telling her where he was. He knew she had missed Michael was much as he had, her and Lucky both. Currently Lucky was moving around Hell try to shed her skin and she was a little too big for Michael’s house. It was better he didn’t bring her. He would take Mikey to Hell one day so he would see her if he wanted. Instead he just settled for sending him and image of her, from last week before she had left curled around his thrown. She was a sight he would give her that.
“There she is,” he said grinning when he watched Goat’s ghost body, charge through the front door and into Michael’s lap. He wished he could say it stopped there as she started bouncing around the couch but it didn’t and he found himself quickly blocking out her sound from Ana so as not to wake her. He hadn’t seen Goat this excited in a while.
It was hard to tell whether Lucifer was being genuine about the game being made for him or just simply saying that it seemed as if it was. Honestly Michael wouldn’t put it past the other angel to have someone make a game on that device specifically for him to use. In fat it seemed exactly the sort of thing both Lucifer and Gabriel would do.
At the image of Lucky that filled his mind over the link the smiled. The large snake was, shockingly enough, larger than when he had last seen her. She was certainly too big to fit comfortably in the living room with them so he appreciated the image only—especially when Goat came launching into the house and right at him, her happy bleeting filling the air before Lucifer blocked it to just that room only.
“Well she is certainly just as excitable as I remember her to be, much like you I might add.”
The smile on his lips was genuine as he took his place back on the couch, quickly reaching out his hand to scratch behind her horns whenever she hopped within reaching distance—which wasn’t very often given how excited she currently was at seeing him.
“I still have the first feline, I never did name her. She’s on our island, you remember the one—anyways, I go and visit her from time to time.”
With his words he pushed an image over the link, a memory of the last time he had been to see her. The large feline was huge, the grace embedded in the island from so much time spent there as fledglings having only helped accelerate her growth and evolution.
“We should go there sometime—all four of us again. I think Ana could benefit from it even.”
It was hard not to be nostalgic for the time he had spent there with Lucifer, Raphael, and Gabriel now that he had all three back in his life.
Lucifer hadn’t thought about the island in years, in fact when him and Michael had fought and it seemed that Raphael had picked his brothers side he had pushed a lot of memories to the back of his mind. Some of them were just too painful to remember. The island had been one of those. They had spent so much time there just the four of them, creating and laughing and having fun, when all that had ended and looked like a pipe dream to ever happen again he had pushed it away and not thought about it again.
“I haven’t been to that place in a very long time,” he offered as he turned off his game so Michael had his full attention.
The thought of going there wasn’t a terrible one and he was sure that Anna would love the place. He had and so had his brothers when they were younger.
“Is everything still intact?” He asked wondering if their tree house was still there and if the place was still untouched by the humans. He hoped that it was but there was no promise that it would be. He had been protecting the place, though if he had to guess he didn’t think that Michael had. Not if he had the cat there. He loved her to much to let her be some place that humans could find and harm her.
“Is the tree house still there?” He asked. It would be worth going just to see it again really. It had been a thing of beauty. If it was still there so would pieces of his old life. Those could be fun to see.
It had been sometime since he had checked on the island. The last time he had been there everything had still been intact. The house they’d made for themselves among the trees still was there, though Michael hadn’t gone inside of it.
“I’ve kept it cloaked from the humans, it should be free of them still. I haven’t been in our home, I only stayed outside. It felt wrong to venture in without everyone.”
Michael was glad though that Lucifer wanted to go back. It was an adventure he would pose to Raphael and Gabriel over dinner, possibly even something they could do here soon.
“Do you think Lucky and Goat would like to come when we go? Surely they will still remember the place as well.”
Michael couldn’t see where anyone, angel or animal, could have forgotten it. So much of their youth had been spent there. The humans had a saying about never being able to return home, it wasn’t a saying Michael was fond of or even agreed with in a vague sense. The island had been a home to them, they could easily go back there.
Lucifer reached out to grab the goat when she hopped by him, pulling her into his lap and against his chest before peppering her face with kisses. “I think she will love it. Lucky too, she will be thankful for the room to roam,” he said nose wrinkling as he looked over at Michael.
“Did you really keep it human free?” He asked with a grin unable to help himself. He truly hated humans, he liked the stuff they had but he hated them. They were gross and flawed and easily manipulated and incredibly stupid. It would be nice to have a place that wasn’t tainted by them. Even in Heaven and Hell he was dealing with humans and forms of humans. It was tedious but the island. If Michael was serious would be a wonderful break, so much so he was ready to move dinner to the place and say forget having it here.
It wasn’t just the humans either, some of the best time of his life had been spent there on the island with his brothers, they had been free to be who they were, they had been free to make whatever they wanted. It had been amazing and the island had been filled with them. There were parts that screamed Michael and Raphael and Gabriel. There was snow and storms, there was raging fires that never seemed to go anywhere but just burned slowly under the open sky, there was water and plants that made fruits that tasted like the best cookies you had ever had. More than any place he had ever been this was home and he wanted so bad to return. It was something he never thought he would get to do with the fall out between him and his brothers. To be able to fly again in the open sky above the island, to race to the stars and back, it would be incredible and he could feel his wings ache to be there once more. Ana was going to love it, he knew she would.
“Can we go now, can I text Gabriel, do you think they can do dinner early?” He asked excitedly.
While it was true Michael didn’t mind the humans he also wasn’t stupid. They had a tendency to be destructive, to disrespect things that did not belong to them. The island had been a sacred place for him and the other three angels. It had been their home away from Heaven, it had been where he had fallen in love with Lucifer a million times over and yes it was selfish but he wasn’t about to let Father’s creations have it.
“I did. I thought, I couldn’t let them have it Lucifer. Already Father has given them so much. The thought of them having our place as well was too much. So I protected it, I kept it for us and us alone. It only seemed the right thing to do.”
Offering up a small smile Michael shrugged his shoulders. What was Father going to do? Come out of retirement and smite him for withholding something from the humans? If that was the case then Michael welcomed it, at least he’d get to see Father’s face again one last time.
“I don’t see why we can’t. I think they’d both enjoy it and even be surprised by it, unless of course they’ve gone back at some point. Yes Lucifer, let’s text them and see if they can come early.”
There was an exictment flooding through him that he hadn’t felt in some time, an anticipation for the evening that seeped through him and his grace both.
Michael’s excitement was contagious and Lucifer could feel himself getting more and more excited for this with each passing second. The idea of finally being able to go to the one place he had considered home was the best thing that had happened to him in a very long time, apart from Michael talking to him again.
                    “I’m texting them”
It was too good of a chance not to it. He would have been stupid if he had passed it up. He would have been dumb to say no to this and not invite him and Raphael along with them. They would be stupid to say no to going home as well. He wanted this and he knew they would to, even little Ana would be happy there, even if she wasn’t old enough to pick up on where she was. She would still be content without ever knowing why.
The idea flashed through his mind of getting to stay there. Leaving to run Hell during the day and come home to Michael and Anna in the evenings to cook for them and spend the evening creating outside of the tree house. The idea had his nose wrinkling as he flipped a text to Gabe asking if he could come over sooner that Michael and him had a surprise for both he and Raphie. He knew that the two would not have left it if it wasn’t for them. If once again it hadn’t been a fight between him and Michael that had sent them their separate ways.
“Alright I have texted Gabe and Raphie to see if they can come                      over early that we have a surprise for them.”
Sitting up better on the couch he shifted to lean against Michael his shoulder nudging into his brothers.
“Do we have to wait or can we just leave them a note to meet                     us at home?“
Michael couldn’t think of a single reason why they shouldn’t go now. They could leave a note for the others, even tell them where they would be. Sitting around here waiting for them to show up was only going to make both himself and Lucifer antsy and Michael didn’t want that.
Ana was still sleeping of course which posed a small issue. She tended to be a heavy sleeper however and given that she’d been up most of the night and morning refusing to sleep the angel was willing to bet the little one would happily go back to sleeping.
“Let me pack Ana a bag and then we can go.”
His shoulder bumped against Lucifer’s, a fond smile on his face as he got to his feet from the couch, stopping to scratch Goat behind her ears.
“If you want to write our brothers—or send another text on that device of yours.”
Heading into the bedroom Michael pulled out Ana’s diaper bag and picked her a few outfits just in case they ended up staying longer than just the evening. It was something he and Lucifer had been prone to doing back in the day and something he was sure would carry over to the here and now as well.
When he had the cloths and a few toy items packed he headed into the kitchen to put together some bottles for her.
“You know it really is quite difficult taking her places. I know I could easily use my grace to retrieve this stuff but I constantly worry I’ll find myself cut off and stranded. It’s a fear I’ve only recently developed with Ana.”
Lucifer sent a quick message to his brothers letting them know to met them at the island that they were going to go and get everything back in order because they were too impatient to wait.
“So take a bunch of stuff. I mean if you don’t use it you don’t use it but at                        least you will have it if you need it.”
It was of course what Michael was saying in the first place but he could agree with Michael on the theory, even if he didn’t know when Michael planned to be without his grace. That thought was a little worrisome.
Pushing himself off the couch he picked up Goat in his arms, making sure to keep the bubble of grace around her to block the sounds she made, she was quiet for the moment but he never knew when that would change.
“Should I get Lucky and bring her hear or leave from the island and                          get her?”
Moving her here would surely be a problem; she had gotten rather large in Hell. Maybe from the island would be better.
“Also I texted, that is what sending message from my device is called,                          to our brothers. I told them we couldn’t wait.”
Michael frowned, nose wrinkling slightly as he thought back to the size of Lucky when Lucifer had shown him a recent memory of her. She was quite large these days he truly did not think bringing her here would be a very good idea.
“I think going to get her from the island would be best Lucifer. It will have more room if she gets excited at the move.”
Just like Lucifer, the animals he kept were prone to the same levels of excitement. Goat had ben beyond excited to see him, they didn’t need Lucky being in a similar way. Not when they had Ana and Goat already.
Leaving the kitchen he headed in to Ana’s room, gently picking her up from the bed and settling her against his shoulder, one hand settled gently on her back so he could lift the diaper bag onto his shoulder with the other.
“Are you ready?”
Walking into the living room he stopped in front of Lucifer, a smile playing over his lips as he reached out to wrap his grace around the pair of them, moving them to the island they both knew so well.
Lucifer was ready, more than ready and the excitement of getting to go to the only place he still considered home flared around him and through him as he felt Michael’s grace pulling at him. It was a feeling he hadn’t had in a very long time. Since he was grown he had been able to freely move wherever he wanted with his own grace and wings but when they had been younger, when they had been fledglings and since Michael had been older he had moved them where they were going. He would wrap him up in their grace, warm and safe and when they were done they would be on the island. Lucifer knew he was well past needing someone else to move him where they were going and he was confident he could have easily found the island on his own but Michael’s grace was to warm and safe and familiar for him to say anything different. He just sat back and enjoyed the ride as it happened.
                    “Mikey.”
His name fell from his lips when they landed, the island coming into view in front of his eyes as he felt his feet pressing against the ground. This was it, this was home. Of course it was way more grown up then he remembered it, that was what happened when things lived and grew and no one was there to cut them or trim them back but it was still home. He could smell it in the air. The plants, the trees, the sweet smell of Gabe’s candy fruit wafting over the trees. He could hear the low rumble of thunder that always could be heard from the storms Raphael had set rolling in the sky. It was just5 like he remembered it.
“I never realized how much I missed this place.”
Reaching up he rubbed at his eyes, brushing away the few tears that collected there. There was nothing like going home to a place you never thought you would see again. When he was done, he moved to set Goat down on the ground, watching as she disappeared into the trees like she always did. He knew he would not see her for hours. Next he reached out with his own grace, getting Lucky’s attention in Hell and pulling her to them, setting her down in a small clearing to the side of them. He could hear her happy hissing and the sounds of her slithering off into the distance without even stopping to see Michael.
“I guess she is happier over the island than you.”
It was teasing and he bumped his shoulder into Michael’s to let him know before letting his wings out behind him in s rustle of feathers.
                    “Is the house still here?”
Taking a deep breath Michael let his grace move out over the island reacquainting himself with the feeling of it all. Everything inch of the place felt like his brothers, like home. The ground was steeped in grace and creation, the countless hours they’d spent there having changed the very core foundations of the place itself.
Had humans found a way to it they would have been changed forever and Michael was never more happy he’d warded the place off than he was now. Their home was still theirs; one of the last pieces of Earth left untouched by humanity.
“Hm I guess she is. Perhaps later she’ll be more willing to come around me.”
Michael wasn’t going to hold out much hope. Lucky was well known for holding lifelong grudges when others wouldn’t. What he’d done to Lucifer and the cold shoulder he’d given him for years warranted he wrath, Michael wouldn’t hold it against her.
“I see no reason it wouldn’t be.”
Glancing at Lucifer he smiled and shifted Ana in his arms as his wings spread out behind him. Heaven had enough space for them, more than enough, but there was still something nice about stretching them out here, especially just before taking to the sky.
Holding Ana close the pushed off from the ground, one push from his large wings sending him feet into the air while the next launched him up to the tree line where he could more easily see where they were on the island.
Home looked to be to the west of them, nothing but a short fly they could make it to in less than two minutes. Certainly both Goat and Lucky would find them there, as would their brothers.
“West of us Lucifer. We’re around the back of Gabriel’s fruit garden.”
He knew it would be familiar directions for the other angel.
Lucifer watched as Michael spread his wings and took to the air. It had been a long time since he had seen his brother’s wings let alone to see him use them. He stood for a few seconds more before spreading his own out behind him, listening as Goat came bounding back into the small clearing they were in at the sound, four hoofed legs launching themselves in his directions. Leaving anywhere without her was usually out of the question these days. He hadn’t been able to make it out the door to work in the last seven years without her.
                    “Come on.”
Holding Goat under one arm so she could see he took the air, two flaps of his large wings raising him to Michael’s height. He was careful to angel himself just behind him so their wings didn’t hit. He could recall a time when it wouldn’t have mattered to them, to Michael but times were different, they were different and as close as they had gotten he didn’t know if they were back in that place yet.
                    “Race you.”
He ordered a small grin, nose wrinkling as he did before he was off with another hard flap of his wings, shooting himself in the direction of the tree house, watching as it got bigger and bigger as he neared it, Goat’s bleats dying on the wind before they could even make it to his ears.
He stopped short of the tree house wings gently moving so he could stay aloft in the air in front of it as he looked it over. It was just like he had left it the last time he had been there and he was willing to bet that it would be inside too.
                    “We should wait.”
He wasn’t sure suddenly that he wanted to go in without his brother’s. Suddenly it didn’t seem fair. This had always been their place, their home.
Grinning Michael took off, moving easily behind Lucifer but not over taking him this time around. It was too short of a flight for either of them to really be racing but he enjoyed the positive and engaging edge it added for them.
At the house he came to a stop just behind his brother, one hand settling on his shoulder as they looked up at the place that he been home.
It looked exactly as they had left it, perhaps the tree was a bit more grown up. Moving closer to Lucifer he let his hand fall to his side pulling the younger angel back against him as he hovered in the air behind him.
“We can wait, there is no rush.”
It was a feeling he understood well. This had been a place for all of them to be themselves. Going in just them felt wrong, they needed Raphael and Gabriel there with them. Reaching out he gently pushed his grace against Raphael’s seeking him out.
You and Gabriel are coming, correct?
“Yes Michael, however some of us had work we needed to finish. Just                 because you two are bored does not mean we can change meeting times                      on a whim.”
If Raphael sounded annoyed it was because he was. Michael may be off and Lucifer may be able to ditch work at a moment’s notice because they are bored but he was doing the best that he could with his. He was on his way to meet Gabriel, already hours before he was scheduled to but that didn’t’ mean that he could make this happen any faster than it was.
“You better not go into the old house without us Michael. Tell Lucifer the                      same. I am sure Gabriel would agree.”
With that he closed the link to them before walking into Gabriel’s office.
                    “Are they coming?”
Lucifer asked, letting himself relax against Michael as they hovered above the tree, surveying the land and home they had made so long ago.
Michael barely refrained from rolling his eyes at Raphael’s annoyed voice over the prayer link. Leave it to his brother to insist he take time off and then be grouchy that he was finding something to do with that time.
“Yes, they are. And they both insist that we are not to enter the house without them being here. Well, Raphael insists and is certain that Gabriel will be of the same opinion.”
Resting his chin over Lucifer’s shoulder he beat his wings moving them a bit higher in the air.
“We should go to your orchard here and pick some apples.”
It would be a way to pass the time until Raphael and Gabriel found it in them to actually show up along with the added benefit of convincing Lucifer into making one of his pies for after dinner. Shifting his other arm he checked on Ana and grinned at the happy content look on her sleeping face.
Lucifer dropped his head back against Michaels’s shoulders when he talked about Raphael. It made since that he was asking them to wait, it was the same reasons that he wanted to. This was their home and now that there was a them again he wanted it to actually be all of them and not just some of them.
Pulling away from Michael he flapped his wings a few times taking himself higher in the air as he looked over the island to where he knew his orchard was. It had been so long since he had tasted his apples and suddenly he could taste them on his tongue, the flavor making his mouth water.
                    “I could make a pie.”
With that he looked back at Michael nose wrinkling as he grinned and started in the direction of the orchard. It would be perfect, they could fix dinner, he had all the makings for pot roast cooking at home for tonight. He could make a pie here to go with it. It was his favorite meal after all and he was actually sure that his brothers would enjoy it, no one but Gabriel had gotten to eat his cooking for a good long while now. If Gabe was over it he hadn’t and there were plenty of cotton candy flavored fruits around that he could eat. Actually he might try making him a cotton candy fruit pie.
“We have to come back and get some cotton candy fruits so I can make                      Gabe a pie too.”
It seemed to take a second but the excitement of seeing the orchard and collecting fruits finally washed over Lucifer as the angel headed that direction. Shaking his head Michael moved his own wings, directing them and himself towards the long rows of orchard laden field. The path and sight was a familiar one and the eldest angel let himself get pulled along by the memories and feeling of nostalgia as he settled on the packed dirt ground.
“We can collect both while we are here. I got the feeling from Raphael that it was going to take them a bit.”
Stepping into the orchard he reached out his grace wrapping it around some of the overgrown grass to manipulate their molecules into a woven basket. It would be far easier to carry and collect what they needed with it, especially while he was still carrying Ana in his arms.
“How many apples do you want?”
Picking up the basket he headers a few rows deeper into the orchard, looking up to keep Lucifer in his sight as he did.
“A bunch, I probably need about six to eight for the pie and the rest I can                     just gorge myself on while I float in the lake later. I will get nice and fat and                    sink to the bottom.”
He shouted the words down to Michael as he flew over the trees above watching him, his eyes often wondering to the rest of the island, taking it all in again. It was so new yet so familiar, things he knew well grown up over the years. His apple trees seemed to be thriving, which was nice.
All at once he let himself fall out of the sky landing next to Michael, Goat giving a loud squeal at the sudden drop and making him laugh.
“I think she forgot I do that.”
Reaching out he put her down letting her walk and taking the basket from Michael so he didn’t have to hold Anna and a basket and pick apples all at the same time.
“You know Gabe may have been on to something with the trees that threw                      apples at you, you know.”
Michael snorted at everything Lucifer was saying, an amused smile staying on his lips as he walked through the rows finally picking a tree to stop at. It looked good and like it had a good selection of apples to choose from.
“Be careful of letting Gabriel hear you say that. You know how much he loves those trees, he’ll happily change these to them if he even so much as thinks you want it.”
Picking a few apples he carefully dropped them into the basket Lucifer had taken from him.
“We will have to make a visit there some time, it’s been even longer since I’ve seen the place.”
In fact Michael wasn’t even sure if Gabriel still had Oz or if he had relinquished control of it to someone else over the years. Lucifer still had Hell, they still had the island…it would stand to reason Gabriel had kept his own land as well.
     “That would make Gabe happy.”
He knew it would, even more than being here. He would be happy that Michael even just wanted to see OZ and what had become of it. It was a place Gabe had always been proud of and what it had become was amazing. He had done very well with and for the place. So much so that he loved going their often and whenever he would take a vacation from Hell he would go and stay in the OZ with Gabriel.
“He has done amazing things with the place Mikey, you will be proud                      of him.”
Reaching out with his grace he pulled down an apple from near the top of the tree that caught his attention, taking a bite of it instead of putting it in the basket. He took another small bite and handed it off to Goat as well.
“Oh Mikey, these are better than I remember them.”
It was honest, he hadn’t been here or in the garden for so long he was sure that he had forgotten what these tasted like and how amazing they were.
“Never mind, they don’t get pie.”
He moved along side Michael collecting the apples that he put in the basket, watching his brother as he ate tossing small pieces off to goat.
“Do you think Anna can have some juice? … No we wouldn’t want to                        spoil her.”
“I already am proud of him, I’m proud of you all.”
He knew his siblings didn’t know it, much less think he even thought it. Michael had been proud of them all for a long time now despite not knowing how to show it. Lucifer had taken to Hell and made it in to something worth being proud over despite Michael’s reservations and feelings on the place. Gabriel had Oz and despite not keeping up with its day to day events and news he knew it was developing nicely. Even Raphael who had stayed in Heaven with him was doing a wonderful job now handling Heaven.
It was what they had all been made to do, ruling their respective places. Now they were coming back together as a family unit and he couldn’t be happier over it.
“I think she would like it but she might be end up spoiled, we all did and we weren’t little.”
Leaning down he brushed his lips over her head in another kiss.
“Lucifer—I feel our brothers. We should go and greet them.”
He had thought with the way Raphael had complained that it would take them longer to arrive but he was hardly going to complain about them being there now. Moving his wings out he lifted off the ground once more, Ana safely curled against his chest.
Lucifer was right she would be spoiled but if they were here why not spoil her, at least that was what he thought. He looked up watching Michael take off into the air, his wings itching to follow before he remembered he needed to grab Goat.
“Will you come on, you are holding us back.”
Looking at Goat he held his hand out watching as she bounced over to him bleating like she was proud of making him fall behind and miss his brothers. He watched as she hoped around his feet not coming anywhere close to him being able to grab her.
                             “I will leave without you.”
It was a warning but he had done it before and she knew that. Moving his wings he moved in to the air, basket of apples still tucked in one arm. He rose into the sky listening as Goat hopped around and cried below him before swooping down to scoop her up.
“I told you I would leave without you if you didn’t come didn’t I. It’s not my fault after                                  this long you haven’t learned to listen. “
Pushing as fast as he could he caught side of his brother wings in the sky, the warm burnt umber color of Gabriel’s and bright flashes of Raphael’s cool silver. Shifting goat in his arms he put her in the basket of apples and used his grace to put it to the ground below him setting them both down gently as he picked up speed streamlining his body so he could go faster heading in the direction he could see the red wings glinting sunlight. At the last second he held out his arms as he flew past his brother curling them around his waist sending them both into a tail spin into the sky behind them.
Everyone should have seen it coming and yet Michael was still surprised when Lucifer flew past him and launched into Gabriel’s orbit, knocking the pair into a spin through the air. Judging from the sound Gabriel made, a high pitched squeal, he hadn’t been expecting it either.
“Luuuuccc!!”
Righting himself in the air Gabriel reached for Lucifer and tugged him into a hug, fingers moving to ruffle the other angels dark hair happily.
“Sorry it took us sooo long. Someone, I’m not pointing no elbows, had meetings and stuff.”
His words were followed by wild gesturing in Raphael’s direction with his elbow.
“Yes, well we’re all here now and that’s what’s important. I say we head inside and check out home first.”
Michael suggested as he shifted Ana in his arms. There was no denying how eager he was to see their home once more. Now that they were there Michael could see no reason to put it off any longer than he and Lucifer already had.
“You mean he actually works, here I thought that he and Mikey just                       played around like we did and handed off all the non important stuff.”
Lucifer wasn’t shocked he liked delegating what could be delegated; it kept the demons feeling important. Of course he didn’t trust them with anything serious, half of them were not smart enough for that. He took care of those things but those things only came up once or twice a month if that. The rest of the time was fun and games, mostly. And some torture but that was beside the point.
Raphael watched the two angels as the clung to each other in the air and bitched about working. He could see Gabe and Lucifer both pawning off their tasks onto the others below them. It worked for them; however he was more of the hands on type, the type that thought if he didn’t do it himself that it wouldn’t get done right. He was shocked with Lucifer’s pride that he was able to hand it off, though these days it seemed that he may have a pension for other since such as sloth. He wouldn’t dare say it out loud however.
“I think we should, I have missed this place.”
He let that admission slip past his lips as he turned in the direction of their once home. It was nice to be back, to see the island they had all loved so much spread out below them, even if Goat was hopping around like a mad man for Lucifer’s attention.
“For fathers sake Lucifer please pick her up. I will be right back. I                       didn’t know we were bring our animals or I would have brought                       Laken with.”
With that Raphael was gone.
Lucifer rolled his eyes when he was told to pick up Goat and then watched as Raphael left.
“Mikey, couldn’t he do that later?”
Pressing a kiss to Gabriel’s cheek he dropped out of the air and scooped up Goat and flew back up between his brothers watching as Raphael and his huge bird reappeared.
“Apologies, we may go see home now.”
Lucifer knew that was mentioned for him if the daggers his brothers eyes were tossing his direction were any indication.
On any other day Michael might have complained over the bickering or even chastised Lucifer and Gabriel for delegating so much of their work to demons and lesser angels. However today his mood was bright and he wasn’t going to nag his siblings, not when he had missed these interactions between the four of them so much.
“Yes, if everyone is ready.”
He offered the smallest of amused smiled and headed in the direction of their home knowing the others would follow behind him as they were just as eager as he was. Maneuvering down through the air he landed with a soft thud on the path around their house. It was built there specifically for air landings and allowed enough room for all of them—well it should have but Gabriel still seemed to insist on coming in too close as always and knocked into him earning a frown.
“Sorry Mikey! You know I’m bad at this.”
Rolling his eyes Michael headed for the door pushing it opened and stepping inside as his wing folded down against his back. He walked deeper into the house allowing the others room to come in behind him.
“It’s still perfect.”
There was a bit of awe in his words as he looked around, a smile settling over his lips. This place, perhaps even more so than the Garden, was home.
Raphael followed Michael down to the ground and into the house a sense of calm that he had not felt in a long time washing over him. It was nice to be home and it truly felt like home to him. When he was on Earth for long periods going back to Heaven was nice but it couldn’t hold a flame to the way he felt now. Not as he stood there and took a deep breath, eyes closing as his body, and grace relaxed into the space he knew so well.
This was home, this was where he and his brothers had lived and been so close and it was so nice to be back.
“It is good to be home.”
Raphael left the words settle into the space alongside Michael’s and stepped slightly to the side to allow the others more room to see.
                   “It still smells like home.”
Lucifer leaned against Gabriel as he spoke, head dropping to his shoulder for a second before he pressed a kiss to his cheek before speaking again.
“I am going to look at my room and then start dinner.”
Raphael noted that the devil sounded happier than he had heard him in a long time and he thought he could echo that sentiment. He turned his attention to Gabriel, a small grin playing on his lips as he watched him looking around. He looked happy too, him and Michael both and it was so good to see.
Lucifer tucked his wings in to his back and shifted between the other angels, pressing a kiss to each of their cheeks, Goat and the apples still tucked in his arms as he moved through the halls and up the stairs shouting back at the others.
“Do we need to make Anna a room here, that could be fun.”
