So, I’ve decided for my own sake to change the way I categorize muse activity. Instead of primary, secondary, and tertiary, I have now divided it into Highly Active, Somewhat Active, Plotting Dependent, and Currently Not Active. This way, it gives you all the most clear insight into what muses I’m most into currently for writing and what the interest level for me is.
Each category is in no particular order btw as well. And I shall update this as things change, which I imagine they will be in flux!

Which card game anime best treats female characters?
Tumblr media
I'll list off ones I think do a pretty decent job:
Cardfight!! Vanguard Season 1
Misaki gets fairly decent focus, a character arc to a degree, and a decent rivalry with Asaka. Asaka however tends to be pretty flat in terms of personality, and most of the surrounding female characters are creepy, annoying, or kind of flat, outside of Emi (hopelessly oblivious) and Misaki and Kourin, I think.
Battle Spirits Shonen Toppa Bashin
The show's plot is awkward to bad, but the character writing surrounding Mai Sunshine (a.k.a. Suiren) and Fumiko, the show's two major female characters, tends to be well handled character growth, and they don't do too badly despite the main focus of the story being on Toppa and J, the main character and main rival.
Battle Spirits Shonen Gekiha Dan & Battle Spirits Brave
Both shows have small but decently concentrated on female cast. Kajitsu is a plot device to a degree but her problems are treated as important and worth resolving for the cast once the problem is explained to them, and they do their damnedest to do so.
Mai Viole is in a relative position of power in the team group for the first show (They're riding on her ship, and she tends to do pretty okay with games), and a decent amount of her arc in Brave is dealing with her romance with Dan, along with PTSD from the first show. And she ends up I think the second to last boss in the story to try and stop Dan, and ends up using a brutally devastating Black/Red Dragon Deck for that.
Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V Season 1
Yuzu was literally a major driver of the plot for most of the season, her story arc to get stronger on her own after getting asswhipped by Masumi was legitimate, and her rivalry was decent.
Masumi was good until she got hit by the amnesia bus, but for that early period people were super into her.
Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS
Romin was a valid main character with decent story arcs and beats, and generally was given as much time to do with the plot and bounce off her friends as the others.
Asana was a fairly solid arc villain with a legitimate backstory, a strong deck, and a reliable group of minions.
Mimi's ongoing arc was fairly legitimate, they did look at her position as the main adult with decent validity and her trials and tribulations as an older viewer felt familiar.
Cardfight!! Vanguard G
Rin and Tokoha were both pretty reasonably well handled, treated as competent players, with their own goals and ambitions, as well as characters like Verno who had their own goals. Ditto Luna and Am's story arcs being pretty okay for a toyetic kids' show. Like over all, the show was never particularly malicious to its women, and most of the female cast regularly did Stuff, even if they never quite were like front and center, they definitely were on the stage.
Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress
Megumi has a pretty decent focus, is a genuinely decent player, and is fairly well handled. Tomari is positioned as a strong woman (who beats down a corrupt former Buddhist monk), and one of the few "I'm a decent human being" cops that feels decently earned, with rough edges. Haruka has strong motivations to protect her charge. And Mirei has a well handled story arc, personality, and is one of the few times I've seen someone Blind treated with a fairly realistic depiction in anime.
Feel free to challenge me, etc.

Asaka Manato’s #1! - Part 2
In this GRAPH feature from 2016, troupe members were asked to vote on their favorite on- and offstage things about their top stars. Asaka’s was published in the November issue.
This is the second half of the feature that I began posting last time. In part 2, the troupe members vote on their favorite things about her personality off-stage and things she does while performing.
Note: Like Part 1, Asaka’s comments are in italics.
Asaka Manato’s #1 - Part 2
We love this about her in rehearsals!
#1 - How she notices each and every member of the troupe (33 votes)
“When I’m struggling with a role or something like that, she gives such valuable advice!” - Rinjou Kira
No, no, I keep consulting you for all kinds of things!
“She gives advice to each and every junior actress and takes them out for yakiniku 💖” - Fuuma Kakeru
Ahaha! (laughs) Well~ If we go out to eat or something, I can learn more about everyone, and it makes it easier to give advice, that’s all. I went out with the Black Angels, too. An underworld rally! (laughs)
#2 Her eye power (10 votes)
#2 How she always greets people with a smile (10 votes)
#4 The difference between her on- and off-stage personas (9 votes)
“With her nails she can’t open a can of juice… 💖 (It’s too cute, the gap is too cute!!)” - Makaze Suzuho
I couldn’t open anything with Der Tod’s nails. So, I went to Yurika (Makaze) who was nearby like ‘Open it for me~’ (laughs).
Other:
“The way she’ll fire off a wink when our eyes meet 💖 It’s just so cool 💖 💖″ - Hoshibuki Ayato
I only do this with Monchi (Hoshibuki)! Since during TOP HAT it made her blush so much and I thought it was funny (laughs). It’s not that I’m flirting with everybody! (laughs)
From Misaki Rion
“Her ability to focus! The way she changes is so impressive to me!!”
Although I’m scatterbrained by nature, I’ve realized that being able to focus is really important so I’ve learned how as I went along.
We want her to do this! From musumeyaku
#1 - Wink (8 votes)
“I want her to 💖 wink 💖 at me with those bewitching Hot Eyes!! 👁” - Mikaze Maira
I’ll do it whenever you like!
#2 - Hug (7 votes)
“I want her to pull me in with one arm! With a line like “Oh, be careful!!”. With those big hands 💖 💖” - Risaki Shigure
Ahaha (laughs)
#3 - From Elisabeth, Der Tod’s… (4 votes)
“The scene where Der Tod tries to seduce Elisabeth in her bedroom is so alluring, so I want her to try that with me.” - Mizune Shiho
The movements in that scene were things I thought of that they incorporated into the show. That’s great if it had an impression on you!
#4 - Dance (3 votes)
“I want her to be my escort for a duet dance.” - Junya Chitose
Eh~ I’d definitely end up laughing! (laughs) But I’ll do it!
From Misaki Rion
“I want her to pat my head while gazing into my eyes (laughs) 💖 💖″
“I want to exchange cheek kisses with her like in TOP HAT!! It’s so heart-pounding!!”
This is the most variety you’ve had yet! So extravagant! (laughs)
We want to emulate this! From otokoyaku
#1  - The way she uses her hands and arms (11 votes)
Oh~ I’m happy!
“My hands are small, and I have a real complex about it...Asaka-san also apparently has small hands (although they don’t look that way at all), so I want to learn more about how to gesture so my hands look bigger.” - Aizuki Hikaru
“The way she moves her long hands.” - Rukaze Hikaru
My arms are long so I used to be self-conscious about that, so if I am seen this way as an otokoyaku...It’s nice~
#2 - Dance (6 votes)
“For TOP HAT, she studied Fred Astaire’s movement so much. It was so impressive that as soon as I went to see it the first time I was so excited that I rushed to get a standing ticket for the second show (laughs).” - Matsukaze Akira
Right, right! Isn’t that cu~te? Cosmos Troupe is full of people who are so intent on research. Cosmos Troupe rules! (laughs)
#3 - The way she uses her eyes (4 votes)
#3 - From Elisabeth, Der Tod’s… (4 votes)
“All her gestures in the scene where she creeps into Elisabeth’s bedroom were so sexy. I want to be able to emulate them!” - Rui Makise
But don’t you think that’s a little too outside of normal situations to be useful!? (laughs)
Other:
“The way she wears suits 💖 So wonderfully sharp.” - Makaze Suzuho
Eh~! I have no idea! (laughs) Oh, but when I put on a suit, it really makes me remember how Osa-san (Haruno Sumire) would move.
“The way she embraces the musumeyaku! I can feel how much affection she has!! I would love to emulate that.” - Mirei Jun
Do it~!! I want to see Yuichii (Mirei) do that! (laughs)
Final comments
Ah~ having everyone praise me makes me feel so nice somehow~ (laughs). It makes me so happy to know that this is what people thing. It makes me feel like I should work even harder. Thank you so much, everyone! Let’s keep doing our best together!!

For anyone in the fandom, here is what I have available to stream at the moment. Most of these things are already ready to go, what isn’t can be prepared for stream in a night or two, so I only need some advanced notice. I’m available to stream with notice, most Saturday and Sunday evenings, U.S. Eastern Standard Time.
I stream via Cytube. Certain things that are hard to rip may have to be streamed via old fashioned Livestream.
I haven't purchased anything in a while ‘cause adult life comes first, but hope to remedy that soon. There’s plenty of other fans on tumblr with access to more recent shows, and the shows of other troupes.

A Motion ~ Cosmos Troupe 2017
Tumblr media
Pictured: the site of my death.
THIS WAS A RIDE. I’d planned on seeing A Motion once, so I overpaid for a decent seat to yesterday’s afternoon show. Then a friend of a friend of a friend was trying to get rid of a front row seat for Friday... I straight up abandoned my Tokyo Airbnb and ran back to Osaka to claim it.
(This made me think that there are probably two types of people: ones who would cancel the final night and attempt to secure a refund in this situation, and ones who would go to great lengths to pretend they are still there in the room just to avoid causing a thing. Guess which one I am)
While not the most brilliant show I’ve ever seen, it was maybe the most satisfying; two days of A Motion at flying sweat distance left me about as full and happy as I’ve been since I started doing this. It HEAVILY catered to my personal tastes and weaknesses, and Soragumi was quite literally on top of me, so you definitely can’t take this as an objective assessment... but I. Friggin. Loved it. I’m not sure how to review it without just spoiling it number by number, but I will try to keep it more general aside from a few points where I just can’t help myself.
BACKGROUND: A Motion is Asaka Manato’s farewell small theater dance concert (not that Umegei is small, but it’s half the troupe). Despite it being all Maasama all the time, it’s also a shockingly good show for EVERYONE in it, especially the next four ranked otokoyaku assigned to this group: Sumiki Sayato, Aizuki Hikaru, Sorahane Riku, and KazukimotherfuckingSora. I even got really healthy doses of Fuuma Kakeru (<3) and Mirei Jun (who was especially breathtaking??). Act 1 is an array of pop music and has a real concert feel; Act 2 opens with some silliness and then mostly Takarazuka songs. Toward the end there is a medley that rotates between 4 teams (led by each one of the 4 aforementioned otokoyaku) with a talk segment. I saw Team B (Aichan, which was DVD day) and Team D (Sora).
The song choices and choreography throughout were SO ON POINT. In particular, Act 1 has a medley of hits from 2002—the year of Maa’s debut—and this ABSOLUTELY SLAYED ME. They hit my weakass Hello!Project garbage heart with Matsuura Aya AND classic Morning Musume (in fact, the song that got me into Morning Musume), PLUS TM Revolution done by, of all people, RIKU and SORA WITH HER HUSKY VOICE AND BLUE HAIR AND GENERAL TRASHY ANIME BOY AESTHETIC, my teenage nerd soul is still screaming into infinity.
My other personal highlights:
SORA SORA SORA. Sora SLAYED all the choreo. Sora had a million vocal solos. Sora got to be Romeo. Sora did a hard slide to the edge of the stage right in front of me and I felt my whole face burn red with a heretofore unfelt intensity. Sora eventually discovered I wouldn’t stop staring at her and gave me a devastating wink.
The overwhelming energy of the theme song. iTunes when.
Watching backlit beads of sweat fly off Riku... DON’T JUDGE ME
The Kento Mori choreographed number was so intense and so good. Sharp, creative, metallic, musumeyaku in pants, just everything.
The pose Maa hits right as the curtain falls at the end of Act 1, especially from my position looking up at her and the lights (and again, watching the sweat fly as she stuck it... don’t judge me)
Hitokakera no Yuuki, ugh <3
The audience was TURNT on Friday. I don’t know if it was the DVD filming or the live viewing relay or just a coincidence. but I’ve never experienced an atmosphere like that at a Takarazuka show. Screaming, squealing, I bruised my hands clapping. They WOULDN’T LET MAA LEAVE, she had to come out and tell everyone it wasn’t senshuuraku and they needed to go. My neighbor in my share house here, BY STRANGE COINCIDENCE, works for TCA and was filming that day. She said the camera operators were having so much trouble because people kept standing up, and Maa kept coming back out way more times than anticipated. Saturday was normal. What the hell, Friday??
...and TEAM D’s CORNER, which I will summarize because it will probably never see the light of video: after asking Maa about a memory from each show for each song in their medley, Sora, mastering the ceremonies in the nerdiest way possible throughout, decides she’s going to let the audience vote by applause for what famous line they’d like Maa to reenact. The choices were “shineba ii,” something from A Song For Kingdoms, the end of Melancholic Gigolo, and the salute (?) from Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Except she forgot to pay attention to which one actually got the biggest reaction, so she made Maa do them all. SHINEBA II got a girly SHINIMASU~~<3 from Sora, the next one got a RADAMEESSSS~~, then her punishment for being an idiot was standing in for Felicia. I wish I had a camera in my brain; it was the most Sora packed into 10 minutes that I’ve ever seen.
Most importantly it looked like Maasama had an absolute blast, and I’m so glad they gave her something like this to go out on. Must-own if you’re her fan, extremely pure blissful fun if you’re into Soragumi in general (or JPop trash of my generation). SO GLAD I got to see it twice.
