The Game That Changed Our Lives | Katrina Gorry x Reader

Summary: your sister retires but you found the girl. (I know how her final game went but I’m changing it because I can. again apologies it's not my best)
Warnings: nothing really but reader is like 26ish? So it’s like a 5 year age difference. And I’m gonna say Harper is like 4 not 2 for the sake of the timeline. Also please pretend there’s like at least a week between the 2 games.

“Christiiine. You can’t make me! I refuse!” I try to pull my arm out of her grip as she drags me onto the field.
“You’ve been crushing on her since we played against them at the World Cup, you’re going to meet her.” Christine continues to drag me through the celebrations of our teammates, the British Columbia rain pelting down on us and the Australian players.
“Plus, after our final game in Vancouver, who knows when you’ll see her next. And I’m your older sister, I’m required to make you do things you don’t want to.” She abruptly stops in front of Steph Cately, who is talking to Caitlin Foord and Katrina Gorry.
Christine hugs her former Portland teammates before turning to Katrina, who now has her little girl resting on her hip. The group begins talking amongst themselves and I zone out, until an arm wraps around my shoulders and squeezes me.
“This is my little sister. I apologise you haven’t met her yet, she’s awfully shy, especially when she likes someone.” She pointedly comments toward Katrina. I shove my elbow into her ribs and glare up at her before turning toward the Australian girl. My face is flushed, and my palms are sweating as I make eye contact with Katrina, who smiles at me before picking up the little girls hand and makes her wave. It’s painfully adorable to watch.
“It’s nice to meet you…”
“Y/n” I smile at the shorter woman as I watch Christine, Steph and Caitlin slowly move away from us out of the corner of my eye.
I talk to her for a relatively long time, eventually finding myself sitting on the wet pitch, my feet touching Kat’s as Harper runs back and forth between us, occasionally actually holding the ball we’re throwing. But then we’re both called by our respective teams to get back to the locker rooms before going back to our hotels. We bid each other goodbye, exchanging numbers before I crouch down and hug Harper.
I spend the following days excessively texting Kat, or Mini as everyone endearingly seemed to call her. I also facetime them after dinners to talk to Harper, who apparently begs all day to see me. I tell everyone who will listen, about the beautiful Australian and her precious little girl who adores me. It doesn’t take more than 10 minutes for Christine, or whoever else it may be, to tell me to shut up most times. Except Jessie, who is either far too polite to say anything, or has her headphones on and therefore isn’t actually listening. In her times of need, she messages Janine, who comes to rescue her.

The day of our match in Vancouver at BC Place, temporarily renamed Christine Sinclair Place, I unintentionally go dead silent. It was naturally an emotional day for us all, but being the sister of the world’s top goal scorer who is finally retiring, having played with her all my life, and being there to see her hang up her boots? It had me tearing up every time I even looked at her.
I woke up that morning, turned over in bed, and saw her training bag sitting on the bed, and began crying. A similar incident happened at breakfast as I watched her walk the buffet line next to Schmidt. Ashley wasn’t sure how to comfort me and simply decided to pat me on the back.
By the time we pulled up to training, Kat had messaged me multiple times, and I hadn’t read a single one. I spent every moment by Christine’s side. I think most people were annoyed by lunch time, but I continued to cling to her arm as the bus pulled up to Christine Sinclair Place. And as we all changed into shirts with the number 12 on them for warm up. And as we changed into our kits, her for the very last time. I finally let go when we had to line up, her mere steps behind me as she waits to be announced.
I make eye contact with the Australian I had been accidentally ignoring all day, tears pricking behind my eyes. I give her a small smile, but she just turns back to her mascot.
We then all line up on the pitch, watching as past Canadian teammates come out and a farewell video plays on the big screen above us, Schmidty, Christine and our nieces standing in front of us all. I can’t help the tears that fall as Jessie hugs me as well as she can as we stand side by side.
Before we get into our positions to start the game, I rush to the sideline to meet Christine. Our pinkies link together, and we step over the white line with our right foot in sync. We turn toward each other, and as we raise our joint hands to kiss our thumbs, foreheads leaning against each other’s, the tears spill once more. Our hands drop to our sides once again and before I can say anything, Christine wraps her arms around me. Not a word is spoken as we hug, or as we part, or as she pats my back when we move to our positions.
I turn to look at the player I’m marking and come face to face with Kat. Her originally cold glare softens when she notices the drying tears on my cheeks and taps my leg as we wait for the whistle to start the game, a small attempt to try and comfort me.

In the 37th minute, the ball falls at my feet and I don’t hesitate on running forward, making a final pass to Christine for her to shoot, increasing her score from 190 to 191 goals. As the net ripples, I run and jump into her arms before she wraps an arm around my neck and ruffles my hair. The action had become our well known ‘sibling celebration’, and like hell I wasn’t going to experience one last time.
“We’re going to get you a goal too.” She laughs as we reset. I once again fall in my spot in front of Kat, who gives me the first smile of the night.
We’re awarded a corner in the 56th minute. Jessie sets it up and it falls to Christine, who manages to find me, and I manage to find a gap, and the goal. It’s a similar string of events, jumping into Christine’s arms before I wrap my own arm around her neck and mess with her hair. She gets subbed off 3 minutes later and I struggle to let her go as Schmidt comes on. A familiar pat on my leg as we watch her walk off is my only sense of comfort.

After the game ends, and many hugs and celebrations and lots of tears, the toes of my boots meet those of Kat, who has Harper hanging on her hip again.
“I’m sorry I ignored you all day. I didn’t realise how sad I’d be today, and I got so overwhelmed.” I wipe the remaining tears off my cheeks as I finally look into Kat’s eyes, the palladian blue seemingly brighter under the stadium lights.
“It’s okay, I just wished you said something. So we could’ve cheered you up.” Harper reaches out for me as I take Kat’s hand and I pick her up, spinning her around.
“Can I also admit I was nervous? That we were getting too close, and I’d just spill all my feelings to you. But after today I think I shouldn’t waste time fu- fluffing around.” The swear almost slips from my lips but Harper’s tug on my hair reminds me of who’s around.
“I wouldn’t have minded… if you’d let it slip.” Her hand slips into my spare one and we smile at one another as Christine and Hayley approach us.
Christine bends over, resting her hands on her knees, as she comes face to face with Harper.
“Hey chickee, how’d you like my final game.”
“It made mumma sad.” I turn to look at Kat questioningly.
“You were sad?”
“I mean yeah but no where near your level of sad.”
“No no! Not mum, mumma.” Harper’s finger pokes at my cheek and everyone seems to have a matching incredulous look on their face.
“Me?” the girl nods vigorously.
Kat opens her mouth to apologise but I kiss her cheek then Harper’s, and hand the little girl to Christine who wastes no time spinning her around and taking her to play with girls from either team.
“Can I kiss you?” I rush out as I turn to the older woman, her eyes sparkling. She nods and I place my hand on her cheek, leaning down to press our lips together.
“I know this is pretty quick, but will you be my girlfriend?” her warm breath hits my lips and all I can do is kiss her again.

“Come on Harper! Aunty Christine’s already there!” I yell down the hall, Kat rushing past me to pack the orange slices and bottles of water into the car.
The 7-year-old comes rushing out at the sound of her favourite aunt’s name, making a bee-line toward the car.
When we arrive at the field, Harper bounces on the balls of her feet, waiting for Kat and I to get out. Once we have everything, she grabs my hand and pulls me through the crowd to find Christine who is getting ready to ref the Under-10s finals.
“Christiiine! Can you help me tie my boots?” I look at Kat, who has just caught up to us.
“We may as well be invisible.” She chuckles and helps me set up our seats as Christine ties Harpers boots and sends her off to warm up.
“She’s going to be playing for The Matildas before you know it.” She says as she passes us.
“Heartbreaking it won’t be the Canadian team.” I retort. Katrina pulls my hand into her lap and rests her head on my shoulder.
“Thank you for helping raise her. Being her other mum.”
“I’d do anything for you two. Anything.” Kat hums and puts more body weight against me.
“You’re so pretty.” I whisper, pecking her nose.
“Not as pretty as you.”

“Katrina! You can’t look! It’s bad luck!” I yell through the door as Jessie helps me get into my dress.
“But I want to see you.” I can hear the pout in her voice, and it takes everything in me not to leave Jessie and rip open the door. It’s Harper who saves me from doing so. I hear her dragging her mum away as my niece ushers me over to put one last pin in my hair. The 15-year-old had some sort of magic for hair, and it was free.
It’s another 20 minutes before the bridesmaids line up, and an additional 5 until I slide into my place next to Christine, who opens her mouth to say something, but seems to choke up and begins to cry. All I do is smile and link our pinkies, and she walks me down the aisle.
As I stand next to Kat in front of our friends and family, holding her hands as she says her vows, I realise how lucky I am. Having these people in my life, meeting the love of my life and having the best daughter. I wouldn’t change a thing. And I say just that.
“When my sister dragged me back onto the pitch to meet you after her second last game, I was so embarrassed and adamant you’d hate me. For no reason. But when I looked into your eyes. Those beautiful blue eyes, I knew. And when Harper laughed as I blushed when Christine basically told everyone I had a crush on you, I knew I wanted her in my life forever too. I’m so grateful for having Christine and Jessie and the whole team. I’m grateful for my family. But I’ll never be as grateful for them as I am for having found you.” I smile a watery smile as Kat cries, and I can’t stop staring and thinking how beautiful she is. We exchange rings and I kiss her like it’s the only thing keeping everyone alive.
“I love you.”

I stand on the sidelines, looking down at my boots and the matching pair that stands firmly next to them. I then reach out my hand and link my pinkie with the girl next to me. Despite the different jerseys, we step over the white line with our right foot in sync. We turn toward each other, and we raise our joint hands to kiss our thumbs, foreheads leaning against each other’s. When I look into Harper’s eyes, I see Katrina’s, and when I think about this moment, my very last game, I think back to that game 13 years ago, saying goodbye to my sister on the pitch, and I smile.
“Good luck chickee.” I press a kiss to Harper’s forehead and take my position, marking the young Gorry.
When the game ends, I fall to my knees. People from both teams dogpile on top of me as we celebrate both the win and my final game. I spend a lot of time talking to everyone before I meet Katrina’s eyes, standing next to my big sister. I run forward and pull them both into a hug.
We eventually head back to the hotel. Kat and I fall back onto our bed, hearing the girls continue celebrating in the hallway.
“I’m so proud of you.” She whispers against my neck, the warm breath sending chills down my spine.
“I couldn’t have done it without you.” I kiss her gently and pull her closer to me. We spend the rest of the night watching the games at Christine Sinclair Place. The game that got us to confess. The game that changed our lives.

Three years ago, we lost one of America’s most beloved basketball players, Kobe Bryant. His untimely passing shocked the world at the top of a very strange year in 2020. Even if you weren’t the biggest Laker fan or a fan of the sport, the news of his death affected everyone, because his legacy was remarkably impactful. Today, we honor and celebrate the legendary athlete on his birthday (Aug. 23).
One principle that is forever engrained in the hearts of fans and family of the late, great Kobe Bryant is his legendary “Mamba Mentality.” Mamba Mentality is about obsession. It means prioritizing your professional goals over having an average, balanced life. During Kobe’s 2016 Mamba Mentality Tour, which aimed to challenge and inspire the next generation of young athletes, he explained what the phrase meant to him, “To sum up what mamba mentality is, it means to be able to constantly try to be the best version of yourself. That is what the mentality is. It’s a constant quest to try to be better today than you were yesterday.” Everyone should adopt a Mamba Mentality and today, we remain inspired by these Kobe Bryant quotes.

Long ago, deranged mutants known as “Others” began to descend from the sky with a hunger for human brains. Humanity had no choice but to lead an enclosed life on the earth’s surface, but thanks to highly developed science and technology based on “psionics,” extra-sensory abilities that everyone has by nature, all things in world were connected by a large-scale network.

■ Dual Protagonists
Scarlet Nexus has two protagonists: Yuito Sumeragi, whose life was saved by a member of the OSF at a young age; and Kasane Randall, an elite scouted by the OSF who was always at the top of her class in training school. A dramatic story await players from the perspectives of two protagonists who have joined the OSF as new recruits.
Players will start the game by choosing one of the two protagonists. Which protagonist you choose is up to you. By playing as both protagonists, previously unseen truths behind certain events will come to light, such as conflicts between OSF soldiers and the “Red Strings” that hold the key to the story. As the face of the OSF, she works as public relations and has enthusiastic fans of all ages and genders, but the hard working, cheerful, and sweet girl she plays on screen is only a persona for the camera. In truth, she is a sloth who is more enthusiastic about playing slacking off than she is working. Some of her teammates even tease her with the nickname “Lazy Ara” since as soon as the cameras go off, she loosens up and slacks off.
However, her true abilities are rumored to be on par with those of the “Septentrion,” and she is a also a gifted engineer. If she is motivated enough, her calmness and brilliant mind are extremely reliable assets. She is also the older sister of Fubuki Spring, the commander of the 1st Regiment of the OSF Arm. While she may seem younger than Fubuki at first glance due to the effects of anti-aging drugs, she is in fact the older one.

A twisted and cruel OSF soldier with a sharp tongue. His high sense of pride, slight negativity, and highly strict nature tend to cause problems for his teammates. He did not get along with the commanding officer of his previous platoon and was reassigned to a new platoon where he teamed up Kasane. His ability in combat, however, is outstanding, and his results on the battlefield make up for his bad attitude.
He does not shy away from complimenting those stronger than himself, and both admires and longs to become as strong as the seven members of the “Septentrion.” Above all, he has particular respect for Seto Narukami, who possesses the same “Electrokinesis” power as him.

As an OSF member gifted with beauty and brains, Kyoka’s name is widely known. While she has many fans both inside and outside of the force, she herself does not seem very interested in her appearance. She is great at looking after her units and often oversees platoons as a result. She usually has a kind and gentle air about her, but becomes an entirely different and dauntless person in battle.
She considers the members of her unit to be like family, and shows a strong motherly side in that she is devoted to her comrades and subordinates to the point of nosiness. She loves things like jinxes, good-luck charms, and fortune-telling, and cannot help but try out each new one she discovers. She and Arashi graduated in the same class and know each other very well.

A sociable, somewhat frivolous young man. He was scouted by the OSF after becoming an adult, which is much later than usual, and is commonly referred to as the “adult enlistment.” With his handsome appearance and silver tongue, he can get along with anyone and get himself out of any situation. According to himself, he is especially popular with women. The mood maker of the party, he is calm in a pinch and jokes around even in the direst times, but never seems faltered. He is an immigrant from Togetsu, a priest of their faith. However, he does not appear interested in their teachings anymore. His past is the only aspect of his life that he is secretive about.

“Kasane is the type of person who is easily misunderstood, so I would worry if I’m not by her side.”

Kasane’s kind and somewhat reserved adoptive older sister. As the eldest daughter of the wealthy Randall family, she grew up comfortably as a princess doted on by her parents. However, she is selfless, treats everyone equally, and possesses the integrity and strength to side with the weak and crush the strong. Although she is the same age as Kasane, she treats the adopted Kasane like a younger sister. She loves Kasane like a real sister and shows her affection from the bottom of her heart. She supports Kasane often, who tends to clash with others.

The commander of the 2nd Regiment of the OSF Army, and the order of the 1st class of the “Septentrion.” Even among the OSF’s most remarkable, his abilities are particularly outstanding. Since he is untalkative, self-confident, and does not mince words, he is sometimes described as arrogant. However, his overwhelming charisma and strength are irresistible assets that many members of the OSF admire.
As Luka’s older brother, they have lived together as siblings without other relatives. He is also childhood friends with Fubuki, the commander of the 1st Regiment of the OSF Army, with whom he graduated in the same class. Together, the two are known as the matchless duo of the OSF.

History of Naruto
Warring Clans era, pre-hidden villages
Huge drop in intermarriages between different clans and a more careful selection of having children. Feudal lords/daimyo ( a large land owner) and other warlords who were not ninja would hire various clans of ninja to fight for them. These clans had no allegiance specifically to any feudal lord or country except what allegiance they might have by way of being hired repeatedly by a lord and having a good relationship.  the clan is everything, here’s no national loyalty. In this era, the clan leader is responsible for his (let’s be real, his) kinsmen. He chooses the jobs to take, he chooses who fights, he oversees training, he ensures payment, he invests, he arranges marriages. Older people would train their own children or bring them out to missions with them to gain experience.
The clan and its continuance was the priority over individual lives. In this landscape, some people over time developed the ability to mold chakra better and better. They started out little better than ordinary soldiers in the real world, taking jobs for hire (mercenaries) but by the Founders Era, shinobi had become so much more powerful than civilians (especially with ninjutsu) that even children were able to be effective soldiers. The power breakthroughs started coming faster and faster, amping up the arms race and resulting in unprecedented bloodshed, which led Hashirama and others to seek a better way.
Why Child soldiers?
People are dying at a rapid rate, resources are in high demand, clan wars raid and take all the assests (Land, resources, money, women and children), leaving many clans devastates. Still, there are so many different clans fighting for the limited number of jobs. To survive, the clans need to maximize their workforce and the children need the experience early on. 
Village Era
Villages start popping up all over the place to ensure common wealth and propper security. Rather than hundreds and thousands of competing clan loyalties, you now have something like a dozen or two hidden villages–a big drop. As a sort of shinobi union, they have more pull in setting prices and preventing people from skipping payment. Clan leaders have all the power within their clan. Clans own a piece of the village, paying taxes based on its population and size of land, minus how much it contributes to the village. You pay taxes to the clan or to the village. 
Year -1: Izuna dies at age 24.
Year 0: Early planning stages of the village. The Uchiha, being poorer than the Senju, having lost so many people, have started to give up hope. The majority of them are children, so many are starting to deflect to the other side.  Hashirama, of course, lets them in, with Tobirama’s condition that they are watched closely.
Year 1/Village founded between Uchiha, Senju, Yamanaka, and Akimichi: Hashi is 28, Tobi is 26, Mada is 29, Mito is 24. Hashi is elected hokage later in this year. 
Year 2: Hashi takes office at the start of the year, marrying an Uchiha to establish the peace. The Academy is opened and there is a restriction placed that only children above 13 can enter the battlefields. Tobi disagrees with Hashi’s peaceful yet weak methods. He spreads rumors that Uchiha get strong by killing their own members and taking their eyes, as Madara had done, and other terrible lies that poses them in a bad light.
Year 3: Madara warns Hashirama that Tobirama may be up to something but Hashirama dismisses it as Madara is merely overreacting.
Year 4: Hashi organizes the first Five Kage Summit and the they reach the consent that each nation should get at least one Kyuubi to balance the power. Hashi gets an alliance with the Uzumaki and adopts their symbol as part the Konoha symbol in return for one of their members to become a jinjuriki. 
Year 5: Madara leaves in a state of despair at age 34 after Hashirama is assasinated at night by Tobi and his followers. (He was too trusting, poor guy.) Tobi kills his Uchiha wife to eliminate any evidence and pins the blame on Madara, stating that he was jealous of the position. Tobi, 31, becomes Hokage. He is extremely cruel to the Uchiha and somehow creates a bitterness with Sand Village. He had an alliance with the Water and the Cloud. Later that year, he marries an Uzumaki, the host of the Kyuubi, a weapon to ensure Konoha’s dominance. 
Year 7: Tobi is extremely utilitarian so tons of new jutsu inventions, massive funds towards the military and weapon research. All the other countries are afraid of this development as by the time word gets out, Konoha is rumored to have the strongest army. He starts a war with many other countries to increase Missions for money. Sand and Stone quickly build a pledge of loyalty to Tobi. Communication sucks at this point and Tobi is monitoring any message pigeons. He builds a trade network and decreases the age for shinobi from his brother’s idiotic 15 years old to 12 years old. He increases the fighting classes in academies, thinks if you can’t fight, you are worthless. Racist towards uchihas and chakra cripled people.
Year 8: Hyuuga clan alliance 
Year 20: Tobi dies at age 46 after being hokage for 15 years. Shokkou Nara at 25 years old, Tobi’s disciple and supporter, becomes Hokage and continues Tobi’s ideals. He creates a council to help him manage the growing city. 
2nd great war due to land disputes, Konoha is trying to take back its fertile land from sand, who in desperation invents the puppet technique. After Tobi, Fire had increased greatly, but not enough. With the massive and powerful army Tobi has created, Konoha wins, putting Sand into a terrible economic status. The nation increases so much that Sokkou creates a council to help direct the nation and grants all the daimyos control over their village as long as they abide by the pledge of loyalty.
Year 41: When Sokkou, a ruthless and land hungry man, kills all of Hinata Hyuuga’s family, Konoha is raided by her and other rebels she gathered. She is a strong headed woman who does not tolerate violence and helps reform Konoha security and defense measures. She rebuilds an alliance with Stone and shinobi are directly financed by the state in order to assist in both common good projects (eg imagine all the infrastructure mud and water (Brick) release can do or Akimichis moving stuff) and helping those who cannot currently afford what they need (especially after constant war which is at least partly your fault, ninja). Non-ninjas are still not represented but are safer in the city so they stay. External affairs are rocky, still tensions with Sand and surrounding Countries for having stolen their land. The era of internal reform.
Year 68: Hinata retires at age 69 and puts Senju Ariko 20 in her place
Year 72: Trade flourishes, chunin is reformed to ban killing and to unite the allied countries, age of prosperity and peace, strong diplomatic ties. The era of Prosperity
Year 78: Senju Arik, 31, falls in love with Daimyo's son.
Year 79: Her actions are discovered and this nearly causes a civil war as the other daimyos feel that she has been favoring him and giving him more benefits/security. She stops seeing him but it's not enough to quell the increasing tensions between the daimyos and the capital city. Shinobi are angry as some Daimyos start giving out less missions to Hidden Leaf Village as a way of protest. When she is assassinated by an enemy, peace returns. The council, made up of her best friends, installed her adviser, Masanori Kazamatsuri as the next Hokage. She enforces rights and protections for the civilians as she had a brother who was born with a failed chakra system. This empowers the civilians to speak their concerns. She accepts their proposal for a separate academy for non ninjas so that there is less discrimination in school and they can focus on academics/skills for a civilian job. Having the insane belief that there will be peace fo a long time, she does not keep up a strong military and defense, causing other countries to take advantage and raid the country. In addition, she is terrible with politics and the economy falls into depression. Daimyo’s are once again directing their missions to more competent villages and swearing alliance to other hidden villages. Many people start moving to other hidden villages.
Year 85: After massive protesting from the citizens, Masanori is taken off the Hokage position. Hiruzen takes the Hokage position at age 25 with Danzo as his adviser. Due to the last Hokage, there is only a fractional population of when Konoha was at its height of prosperity. He rebuilds the military and defense, creating the Anbu to take care of underground missions. 
lowers the war age drastically in order to get more soldiers on the front line. He explained that it was good to build bonds early, and difficult missions will be forestalled until 13. His view is extremely nationalistic. 
Year 90: Just as he cleaned up all the issues and leveled the economy, rebuilding alliances and trade, they are hit with a drought. With the loss of the economy’s greatest profit, agriculture, Hiruzen drastically lowers the age for graduating academy. He foresees a tumultuous time ahead and gathers three top students, including his son, from the Academy and places them under him. They later become the powerful sannin. 
Year 93: The Third Great Shinobi War starts
Year 99: 6 year old Kushina gets the kyuubi from Kiki, who dies due to Suna’s new poisonous techniques. Late into the year, war ends with a treaty between Sand and Fire. 
Year 112: Orochimaru is chased out of the village for being discovered experimenting on people. 
Year 113: Hiruzen, facing criticism for his own son doing such cruel things, retires at age 53 after being hokage for 28 years. Minato, age 19 becomes the youngest Hokage after performing amazing feats in war. 
Year 117: Kyuubi attack. Minato dies at age 24 after being hokage for 5 years. Kushina dies at 24. Naruto is born. Minato’s right hand man and previous teammate Toushirou at age 24 (The black haired guy on Team Jiraiya) takes the position. He believed that the best course of action is to confine Naruto into an apartment that is surrounded by strong genjutsu to hide it from others. He is very trusting of Danzo, an important council member, and allows Danzo to form the root. Due to Itachi’s reports, he believes that the Uchiha will harm Konoha. He allows Danzo to order their massacre for the benefit of peace. He assigns a personal anbu caretaker with her life on the line if she disobeys to take care of Naruto and visits him every month. He saw how Orochimaru had deflected, Kakashi was traumatized, and Gai had attachment issues, connecting to their young age of graduation so he increased genin to 13, chunin to 15 (most pass at 17), and jonin to 18(most pass at 20). Genin had 3 tiers:
Tier 1: D-C- start leaving the village with an older group
Tier 2: D-C-B - out of village with a jonin allowed
Tier 3: mostly B rank missions 
He added lesson plans to all the three man teams, revolutionizing the school system.
Year 132: Hiruzen dies by Orochimaru’s hands. Toushirou dies defeating Rasa. As due to a monarchy, Kankuro becomes the next hokage as he had been trained in politics by his father since his childhood. The council realizes that big things are happening, what with Asuma dying earlier that year, kyuubi attacks all over the place. The other viable candidates all seem to have grudges against Naruto, but he is necessary to the village’s military power so the council orders Jiraya to take the position. He declines, stating that he is crucial to gathering information. He takes Naruto to bring Tsunade, Naruto’s grandmother, back as she will protect Naruto. She becomes the next Hokage.
2 year skip: Kankuro works to reform Gaara’s image but many people are still afraid of him.

Yep this is how i’m going to bring over all the anime and manga i’ve watched and posted about on the old blog. It’s not so detailed but it will have to do. Anything new I watch or read from this point on will have their own posts.
Cardcaptor Sakura:

My Thoughts: A childhood classic that’s probably due for a rewatch! Give me that nostalgia! Gonna need to watch the English opening though. Just recalling how much the artwork in older anime tends to make me cringe though looking back Cardcaptor doesn’t look all that bad.

My Rating: 9/10
Finished airing in 2015 with a total of 13 episodes. Also has a separate solo special episode. 
My Thoughts: If I remember correctly the final few episodes are what really stood out to me in this anime. The beginning was alright but just after the half way mark is when it really blew me away. A slow starter if you will. I’m a sucker for some high intensity emotional drama and i’m pretty sure that’s what happened here. Whether that makes this a good anime or not is debatable. Perhaps a rewatch is in order?
Cheer Danshi!! (Cheer Boys!!):

My Thoughts: Cheer boys! That’s it. That’s all there really is to it. Not a great or memorable anime. Just wasn’t for me.

My Thoughts: I freaking love Chihayafuru. Sports, friendship and all that good stuff is what this anime has to offer! One of my top 5 series of all time with my all time favourite female lead. Highly recommend!

Chihayafuru 3:

Synopsis: Winning the high school team tournament was a great accomplishment for the Mizusawa members. Each of them has made great strides in improving themselves, and the victory symbolizes how far they've come. But after accomplishing one goal, their individual aims are within reach. Chihaya Ayase has her sights set on Wakamiya Shinobu and the title of Queen, and now that Taichi Mashima has made it into Class A, he can finally compete against Arata Wataya. My Thoughts: Blessed with a third season and I can honestly say that i’m ever so thankful! Finally getting a little hint of romance with this third season as well. I can only hope there will be a season 4!

My Thoughts: A perfect and hilarious situational comedy. Plus a glasses wearing female lead to boot! Highly recommend for those looking to watch something short and light. Great series for when you’re having a bad or off day in my opinion.

Finished airing in 2002 with a total of 26 episodes. 
My Thoughts: One of my first animes and one that really caught and kept my attention. Character driven and comedic with a bit of a darker twist. Be forewarned though this one has some typical, eye roll inducing pervy scenes that seem to serve little purpose. Asid from that though it really is an interesting and beautiful stoyr. I actually have the complete manga series and have been meaning to read it for ages... maybe i’ll get around to it this summer. Dream big!

“A party?”
“Yes, a party.”
“Steve, you know I don’t do parties.”
Peter swings his legs, perched on the granite countertop that’s probably 50 years old.
“I know Peter,” Steve’s voice whines through the phone, “But it’s a celebration for us going to the championship.”
Peter huffs.
“You said you’d never miss anything football related for the world.”
“Steve, don’t guilt trip me.” Peter groans, playing with the phone’s cord.
“I’m not! Just repeating what you’ve said. Practically all of our grade and the seniors are going to be there. Can you please come?”
“Steve, I don’t know-“
“For me?”
Peter’s never been one to deny Steve anything. He loves his best friend, a ridiculous amount, and he’s always had trouble refusing shit.
“Fine, Rogers. Only for you. Don’t get me drunk.”

Peter is wasted.
He’s tiny, fucking lightweight, so by the first ‘just for kicks’beer he was tipsy. Steve left him a while ago, preferring to play beer pong with his teammates than baby-sit Peter. His peers have been coming up to him, feeding him different beers and mixes of cheap liquor.
So, it’s not much of a surprise when he topples over into Tony Stark.
“Tony!” Peter squeals, bursting into a fit of giggles as the older boy steadies him.
“Hey, Pete.” Tony responds.
Peter grips onto his biceps, trying to stop himself from swaying.
“You had a little too much to drink, sweetheart.” Tony says softly as Peter wraps his arms around his torso, nuzzling his face into Tony’s chest.
“Did not!” Peter protests, looking up at Tony with a pout.
“It’s 12, Pete. Do you have a curfew?” Tony asks, rubbing his hand up and down the small of Peter’s back. Peter shivers at the contact.
“I-I, um, don’t know.” He blubbers, squeezing Tony tight. He’s pretty sure Aunt May gives him a curfew, but he just can’t remember.
Tony sighs.
“I’m taking you to my house. You’ll be bedridden all of tomorrow.”
For some reason, Peter finds that hysterical.
“You’re taking me home? Sweet.”
Tony frowns and wraps his arm around Peter’s waist.
“Hold on to me, baby.” He yells over the ridiculously loud Bon Jovi, guiding Peter to the door. Steve’s football jersey that Peter decided to wear rides up slightly, Tony’s hand brushing against a smooth sliver of skin. Peter lets out a contempt hum, stumbling down the steps as Tony tries to steady him.
“D’ya have your bike?” Peter asks, voice finally audible once out of the house.
“Nope. My car’s down the street.”
They walk down the sidewalk, Peter blubbering absolute nonsense.
“Wow, I like your car!” He squeaks, stumbling over himself as he reaches for the door handle.
“Yeah?” Tony smirks as he helps Peter into the passenger seat of his AMG Hammer. Peter loves cars, but he can’t seem to focus on figuring out what type of car it is.
“Yeah.” Peter breathes and Tony shuts the door. He climbs into the drivers seat, fishing through his jean pockets for his keys.
“Tony?”
“Yup?”
“You’re pretty.”
Tony turns slowly to face Peter.
“I’m pretty?” He chuckles, twirling his keys around his fingers.
“Mhm. So pretty.” Peter slurs, leaning over the console and resting his head on Tony’s arm.
“I think you’rethe pretty one here, baby,” He coos, looking down at Peter.
Peter takes his tiny hand and strokes Tony’s cheek.
“Wanna kiss you.” He mumbles, looking up at the older boy with his big, doe eyes.
“Do you, now?” Tony whispers, brushing a few stray curls out of Peter’s eyes.
He nods and before Tony knows it the younger boy is pressing his lips to his. He tastes like 7-11 beer and shitty vodka. Tony cups Peter’s face in his large hand, stroking his cheek gently with his thumb. Peter leans forward eagerly, wrapping his arms around Tony’s neck.
“Pete, we shouldn’t.” Tony says when the pull away, chest heaving.
Peter pouts, pressing a kiss to his jaw.
“Why? ‘M not good enough?” Peter asks, eyes shining with tears threatening to spill.
“No no no, you were wonderful.” Tony tells him, kissing the top of his curls. “You’re drunk, Peter. You’re not thinking straight.” He pulls out of Peter’s grip, much to the younger’s distaste.
“Am not!” He whines, crossing his arms.
“Yes, baby. I’m taking you home.” Tony says solemnly, starting the car and bucking his seatbelt.
“Buckle up, hon.”
Peter fumbles with the seat belt and after about 7 tries he finally buckles it. Tony takes off, driving to his house and he can tell Peter is starting to get restless. He’s fidgeting in his seat, hands shaking through his useless attempts to steady.
“Tones?”
“Yeah?” Tony sighs, flicking his blinker on and making a turn.
“‘M not feeling too hot.”
Tony prays he doesn’t vomit all over the seats.
“Roll the window down. We’ll be at mine in like, 2 minutes.”
Peter groans as he cranks down the window. Cool summer air flows into the car, Peter breathing a sigh of relief.
“Holy-hic-shit! You live here?” Peter squeaks, watching out the window as the drive up to the Stark Estate.
“I think you’re forgetting who I am, baby boy.” Tony chuckles, pulling into the four car garage and parking the car.
“That’s right.” Peter giggles softly.
“Tony Stark. Tooooony Stark. Anthoooony.” Peter sings as Tony guides him out of the car.
“That’s me.” He says softly, gripping Peter close to his side.
“You know, I love your name. Love love love. Anthooooony.” Peter drawls, nuzzling into Tony’s chest as they stumble to the side door.
“I’m honored.” Tony jokes, unlocking the door and leading Peter inside.
“‘S so pretty. Can I call you Anthony? Pretty please?” Peter slows and looks up at Tony, grasping onto his broad shoulders.
Tony’s heart constricts at hearing his full name.
“Yeah baby.” He agrees, knowing that Peter won’t remember any of this in the morning. “Now let’s get you to bed.”
“‘Kay, Anthony.” Peter grumbles as Tony steers him through the long hallway.
“Master Stark? Is that you?”
Tony’s eyes widen.
“Shit, baby. Be quiet.” Tony whispers to Peter, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
“Yeah Jarvis. Just me.”
Peter mumbles something into his shirt.
The man who called out to them, Jarvis, appears from the grand foyer, dressed in a crisp white shirt, black tie, black slacks and suspenders.
“You didn’t have to stay up, J. I would’ve gotten home just fine.” Tony tells him while Peter rocks on his heels.
“Pete, stop.” Tony snaps, pulling the boy closer to him.
Peter frowns.
Is Tony mad?
He feels his eyes fill with tears.
“I had to know you’re safe. I cannot make that mistake again.” Jarvis says softly.
Tony looks pained.
“I’m going upstairs. Could you ask Marie to bring up water and Advil tomorrow morning?” Tony asks, already steering Peter to the grand staircase.
“Of course. And please keep loud activities to a minimum.”
Peter accidentally lets out a loud laugh as Tony ushers him up the stairs, flustered. They walk for a little bit and Peter can’t keep track of where they are in the mansion.
“Here’s my room. I’ll get you a change of clothes.” Tony says, opening the double doors to his room. Peter stumbles inside, immediately collapsing on the bed.
“Comfy.” He groans and Tony chuckles from where he’s shuffling through his drawers.
“Here.” Tony says, tossing him a worn t-shirt.
Peter immediately takes off Steve’s jersey, the collar wet with beer. He kicks off his running shorts while slipping on Tony’s shirt. It’s soft and has some metal band logo on it that Peter is too drunk to read. He watches as Tony’s eyes flick to the discarded jersey on the floor.
“Why don’t you like Steve?” Peter can’t help but ask, staring at the bold white letters spelling out ‘Rogers’.
Tony sighs and runs his hand through his hair.
“He did some shit. I did some shit. Bad blood, I guess.”
Peter hums a “m’kay” as he climbs under the covers, totally disregarding the fact that this is Tony Stark’sbed.
“Getting settled, I see.” Tony quips as he heads to the other side of the bed, turning off the lamp.
“Bed’s nice.” Peter mumbles, eyes slowly drifting closed.
“That I’m aware of. Night, Pete.”
“Night, ‘Nthony.”
Peter’s close to falling asleep when his brain has a thought.
A dumb thought.
But he can’t help but ask,
“Tony, can you hold me?”
He didn’t really mean to say it, it more or less just slipped out.
He doesn’t regret his decision one bit when Tony shuffles closer to him, one arm snaking around his waist. Peter sighs happily, taking Tony’s hand in his. He can feel Tony’s breath on the back of his neck, soft, warm puffs hitting the fine hairs. Peter is engulfed in the smell of Tony, smoke and beer and cologne.
And as they both drift off to sleep, Tony stroking Peter’s arm and slotting his legs between his, Peter realizes something.
Some people aren’t as bad as they seem.

Peter is hit with a wave of regret when he wakes up.
It takes him a little bit to remember some of what happened last night, almost having a heart attack because he’s not in his room and there’s someone next to him.
Bits and pieces of the previous night come back through his pounding migraine.
Tony is asleep next to him and Peter wiggles to turn around and face the older boy.
He looks peaceful.
His pink lips are parted slightly, soft breaths falling from them. His dark brown hair is tousled, falling over his forehead. Peter notices how pretty his eyelashes are. He groans and pulls Peter in closer, burying his face into the pillow.
Peter would love to stay and cuddle, but his stomach protests.
He has to pull himself out of Tony’s arms, earning another groan, and haul ass the the bathroom.
As he’s hunched over the toilet bowl, discarding whatever is left from, there’s loud stomping and Tony stumbles into the bathroom.
“Oh baby, it’s okay..” He coos, falling to his knees and rubbing Peter’s back.
Peter’s stomach clenches again. His entire body is shaking and his knuckles are turning white from gripping the bowl. When he’s only throwing up bile, Tony gives him some toilet paper and flushes the toilet.
“I’ve got cups over here. One sec.”
He stands up and grabs a Dixie cup, filling it up with water and handing it to Peter.
“Here. Don’t swallow, just spit.”
Peter manages a weak smile as he rinses out his mouth, tiredly spitting out the water.
“Come on sweetheart, let’s get you back to bed.” Tony says softly, hooking his arms under Peter’s and hauling him to the bed. Peter groans when Tony tosses him lightly onto the bed, immediately tucking Peter under the covers.
“There’s Advil on the side table. I need you to take it. Marie will be up with food soon.” Tony tells him, snagging something off the nightstand and making his way to the door.
“Wait!” Peter squeaks.
Tony stops in his tracks, turning back to face the boy in his bed.
“Yeah?” He asks impatiently.
“Can you...can you stay? Unless you can’t,” Peter manages to ask, hiding half of his face under the white comforter.
Grinning, Tony peels off his shirt, leaving him in only his boxers. Peter’s face turns a deeper shade of red, but he manages to smile through the headache.
Wordlessly, Tony flops onto the bed and snuggles up to Peter.
“Go back to sleep,” Tony mumbles in his ear, pressing a chaste kiss to his jaw.
Peter is utterly and entirely fucked.

Megumi was born in the hidden mist village, her mother and father were respected ninja of the mist. After Marriage Megumi’s mother was shortly pregnant And became a stay at home mom. Megumi’s father kept being a ninja and was away from home a lot, this was normal. One Afternoon when Megumi was 6 years old Megumi’s home was broken into by rough ninjas
Megumi’s mother was out-numbered and she knew she had no chance to live though this but she wanted to save Megumi. She hide Megumi away and told her to not come out no matter What she heard, Megumi was hidden in a closet ( if the rough knew about her or not they left her.) Megumi’s mother was killed, her body was left on the floor to bleed out.
Once it was quiet Megumi peeked out to only see her dead mother on the floor in a pool of blood. Megumi sat down next her dead mother, she was covered in blood but she seemed to have zoned out. She didn’t Leave her mother’s body until her father came home and pulled her away.
At the age of 8 Megumi started growing scales on her feet/legs. This was a passed down trait in her father’s family that skipped him but got to Megumi. She tried her best to hide them from everyone
at school and in the village but it wasn’t hidden for so long. The kids at her school found out about her scales and she became out casted and labeled as a “Freak”. This made socializing with others hard for her. She didn’t make a real friend until she was 12 and got put into a team with Yachi and Takeshi who became her friends.
Megumi’s Father wasn’t around as much as he wanted to, He had many missions he had to do and had to be away for long periods of time. Megumi’s father loved her without question and that is why he did so many missions. He always left her in the cable hands of the village elders who treated her better than any kids at school. Megumi had a hard time calling the elders her friends but they were all she had at that time.

General: 
Generally fine, with a few points to consider.
 a)      Her personality you describe as ‘peaceful’ and ‘calm’, which doesn’t sound like someone who carries a grudge. Also, someone who is indecisive wouldn’t make for a very diplomatic personality, I think.
b)     You can’t really like harmony but dislike conformity, as the opposites usually go hand-in-hand.
 History:
Again, generally fine, the level of violence and adaption to family life is realistic to Naruto. I like the idea of growing scales on the body. It’s a distinctive character trait – it’s a bit of a shame that you decided to cover them up in the character design – maybe as she gets older she becomes more comfortable showing them?
However, I’m not sure she would get bullied that hard over them. Biologically exaggerated Kekkai Genkais have been shown to be not uncommon in the Naruto world, and just having some scales on the bottom part of your legs doesn’t seem all that weird in comparison to be honest.
Also, why does her father leave her in the care of the village Elders specifically? You said the mother and father were well-respected in the village, but it doesn’t sound like they were actually on the council or anything, meaning there would be more convenient people to leave her in the care of; after all, Elders are busy people (I assume by Elders you mean members of the village councils – if you just mean older people in the village, disregard this last bit).
 Looks and Appearance:
Why does she smell of wet strawberries?
The biggest question here for me is how the leg scales help her swim/breathe underwater? If she had webbed feet I might understand that helping her swim, but scales wouldn’t do that. Also, scales wouldn’t affect her ability to breathe underwater – or do you mean just stay under the surface of the water? In which case the breath-holding thing would come into play again; most ninjas are trained to stay underwater as cover and hold their breath for a long time anyway. I can’t really see how this trait would help that.
 Relationships:
Family and teammates look nice and varied. Maybe put a bit more thought into her parents’ personalities and values? Many of these would be passed onto their daughter as they raised her.
It’s good that your character is consistently scared of Gaara; that’s good and realistic. Maybe think some more about how their relationship would develop past ‘her fear of him disappeared’.
 Justus and Abilities:
Well-balanced; she’s not overpowered and you have a good spread of abilities and ability progression. I assume many of the jutsus you mentioned are made up by you so I can’t really comment too much on that.
 Overall:
You obviously thought and planned out a lot about Megumi Yoko and it shows. She’s neither overpowered not overly weak. I really like her, but I feel like you could make her stand out a bit more. With a very introverted personality, it can be easy for these kinds of characters to feel less well-defined than others. Looking forward to where you take her from here :)

Sent from London, England to Maine, USA by her guardian to escape The Blitz of World War II, Marjorie Borchert is left to navigate her young adult years in a tight-knit and foreign town. As the years progress, she learns war stretches far beyond the front lines.
2. How long do you plan for your novel to be? (Is it a novella, single book, book series, etc.)
A single book with possibly a collection of shorts from the other character’s lives.
3. What is your novel’s aesthetic?
Chilly mountains and moose.
4. What other stories inspire your novel?
Little bits from Number The Stars by Lois Lowry and the character of Emily Bennet from the Molly American Girl series.

MAIN CHARACTER
6. Who is your protagonist?
Marjorie Borchert. She is in her mid-teens at the beginning of the story. Moody to say the least, but she has a big heart.
7. Who is their closest ally?
Daniel Reynard. Nikita Savas is a close second but Marjorie’s had a special bond with Daniel from the beginning.
8. Who is their enemy?
Kate, Beatrice, and Gina. Kate is the worst despite the fact Marjorie shares a room with Beatrice.
9. What do they want more than anything?
For things to be as they were before the war.
10. Why can’t they have it?
Her parents were both killed.
11. What do they wrongly believe about themselves?
She believes nobody wants her -- which is understandable after being passed off to strangers by her guardian and, in a way, her brother.
12. Draw your protagonist! (Or share a description)
I’m not much of an artist and she’d look like a cartoon, do description it is.
Tall, though not towering over everyone. She keeps her brown hair short or shoulder length until she’s older. She’s thin, possibly malnourished, when she first comes to America. She fills out a bit the longer she’s at the farm and eating three full meals a day. She’s pale, partly due to locations she’s lived. She had prominent German features, most notable, her accent which is mixed with a British tongue.
PLOT POINTS
13. What is the internal conflict?
There’s different stages I’ll say. In the beginning, it’s about Marjorie trying to find her place in this small and established community. Her biggest conflict being a target for the prejudiced Kate. Then it moves on to the progression of the war and her fears around America’s involvement. But she comes to see that war doesn’t just affect those fighting or being captured and bombed. She also sees how different people handle things differently. Priorities fall into place through this.
14. What is the external conflict?
Trying to get by and adapting to the changes the war is bringing to the community. Acceptance, too. Internal and external kind of work together.
15. What is the worst thing that could happen to your protagonist?  
Losing her brother for good and/or not being able to return to England.
16. What secret will be revealed that changes the course of the story?
My only secret might not end up working. There would have to be a second book. Either way, I’m not going to reveal it. It might end up being one of things only me and a couple of my writing friends will ever know....
17. Do you know how it ends?
Yes, unless Marjorie decides to change her course of action.

Acceptance and making the best of a bad situation.

Jackman, Maine, USA. A small town with a population under 1,000 a few miles from the border of Canada. It’s a heavily wooded area with beautiful mountain and lake views. Lots of wildlife, too. The town is small, running along a single street branching out into houses.
21. Do you have any images or scenes in your mind already?
So. Many.
22. What excited you about this story?  
The time period. I’m a history buff and the 1940s has always been my favorite era.

Love Can Melt the Ice, ch. 12
Aka ice skating au ch. 12!
A/N: That’s right my peeps, this fic /finally/ has a name. I hope you find it fitting! (Obviously I’m not referring to literal ice this time, but instead a certain character who’s acting a bit cool sometimes :P) I don’t really have much else to say this time, enjoy and review! This chapter continues directly from the events of last chapter :)

“So, how’s everything going, brother? How’s your leg?” Al asked when he and Ed made their way into a quieter corner in the room. With the room full of Ed’s teammates and music playing loudly, it was hard to hear your own thoughts, but the brothers decided to at least try since they had a lot of catching up to do.
“I wish I could already get rid of the cast, but other than that, it’s fine. I just want to skate already.”
“I’m sorry, brother,” Al said with genuine sympathy. “Hey, I brought something to cheer you up.”
Al handed Ed a gift bag and he took it curiously. Inside it was a book that Ed recognized as one he had wanted for a long while, Advanced Biochemistry, but much to Ed’s surprise, it wasn’t the only gift. There was something between the book. Two small, thin foliage packages that must have had…
“Al!” Ed yelled with a red face. “How the fuck did you… why… what the hell is this supposed to mean?!”
“Thought you’d need some extra protection with the way your love life has been progressing…” Al chuckled. “I know you well enough to know that you’d never have the guts to get them by yourself.”
“Oh my God. I can’t believe you. We aren’t even dating!”
“It’s funny you say that when you both are practically undressing each other with your eyes every time you look at each other.” Al pointed out, nodding towards Winry significantly.
“I’m not… Fine, she’s hot,” Ed said through his teeth, “but surely I’m not the only the only one who’s noticed that! Just look at Havoc trying to tell her jokes…”
“She doesn’t look too impressed,” Al noted. “Oh, look at that, she’s coming here. Hi there, Winry!”
“Hi guys.” She turned to Ed and noted his mortified expression. “Why are you so red? You sure you don’t have a fever or something?”
Ed didn’t have time to answer when Roy started speaking into the mic and everyone turned their attention to him.
“So, as you all know, we have all gathered here to celebrate the 18th birthday of our very own Fullmetal Forward, Edward Elric. Congrats, kid! Now that you’re officially allowed to buy alcohol, don’t forget the promise you made me!”
“Hah, you haven’t won anything yet!” was Ed’s immediate response, and everyone burst out laughing.
“Anyway, I’d like to suggest we sing for the birthday boy. Everyone, on the count of three. One, two, three.”
Roy gave his sign, and the choir of more and less talented singers started: “Happy biiirthday too you, happy biiirthday too you…”
Ed felt a bit overwhelmed when a room full of people sang for him but waved his thanks when they finished. Soon Roy continued speaking to the crowd:
“Before we let Fullmetal give us, without a doubt, a very amazing speech, there are a couple of other people in this room as well we should congratulate. The little birds have told me that in less than a year this team will have a brand new member. Congrats, Maes and Gracia! Your kid will without a doubt become an amazing skater.”
Nearby, Maes started rambling about the greatness of his future wife to anyone who was willing to listen, but Winry barely noticed because she squealed happily at the news and rushed to hug Gracia who had been approaching the trio.
“A baby! That’s absolutely wonderful! I’m so happy for you guys!”
“Aw, thanks Winry-dear. I got the confirmation from my doctor about an hour after the free skate. I’m gonna have to discuss this with him and Maes, but with this piece of news, I think I might skip the individual competition.”
“But you would have done amazingly…” Winry said, upset for her friend.
“Maybe, but I’ve seen you skating and I dare to say you would beat me 9 times out of 10 these days. And I already won gold 4 years ago, so really, I’m not too upset. How could I be when I look at him?”
She turned to see her fiancé flailing as he told Riza, the only person patient enough to listen to him ramble for ages, how he would decorate the baby’s room and how he secretly (or not so secretly) wished the baby was a girl.
Ed hadn’t had a chance to say anything while the women were chattering, but now he decided it was his turn to get himself heard.
“Congrats, Gracia! I’m sure you’re gonna be a great mother, but I’m a bit worried about your fiancé. I bet he’s that person whose locker will be 100% covered with photos of the kid and he’ll forget how to skate when he keeps staring at them.”
“Don’t worry, I will make sure to kick his butt if he starts slacking because of it,” Gracia smirked.
“That’s good to hear. But seriously, I’m happy for you guys. Babies are amazing!”
“Thank you. I think someone’s gonna be one lucky lady to be a mother to your kids in the future, Edward.” Ed wondered if it was just him or did Gracia look at Winry one second longer than necessary when she said that. And did she emphasize the word someone? He felt himself getting flustered for the second time within minutes and he was about to turn away when Winry asked, pointing to the pack still in Ed’s hand:
“Did you get a present from Al? What did he give you?”
“J-just a biochem book…” he stuttered and left before she could ask more questions. Damn Al. He’d show him. Speaking of the devil, Ed noticed his little brother was snickering almost uncontrollably nearby after seeing the scene between Ed and Winry unfold.
“Are you trying to kill me?” the older brother growled and punched Al on the shoulder when he got close enough.
“Relax, bro, it was just a joke! I won’t change my mind about you two though, I have never seen you this flustered over a girl before. It’s adorable. I didn’t have a chance to ask you earlier, so did you tell her?”
“Yeah, I did. I hate to admit it, but you were right. I do feel better now. And things… are going quite nicely.” He turned his head towards the spot where Winry chatted with her friends (Paninya and Rose had joined her and Gracia now) and Winry gave him a small smile.
“That’s great to hear,” Al interrupted Ed from his thoughts. “Hey, I heard Mustang saying something about a speech, so how about it?”
“Do I have a choice?” Ed sighed and wheeled to where the captain of his team was clearly waiting for him. Taking the mic from his hand, he started:  
“It’s so weird to see so many of you here! To be honest, if it weren’t for a couple of friends, I wouldn’t even have remembered what day it is. And the worst part is that I’m not even allowed to drink because of my condition!”
Many of Ed’s teammates laughed. They knew Ed had never particularly cared about drinking.
“I’m not one for long speeches, so I guess thank you everyone for coming, and special thanks to that one gearhead who made this happen.” His gaze met Winry’s for a moment, and he thought he could see her blushing slightly. “Now, let’s have some fun! But not too fun…” His gaze stopped at Havoc this time. “… because some of you have a big game tomorrow!”
The guests chuckled and continued their partying. Mustang was now dancing with Riza, Havoc was having a drinking contest with Breda despite Ed’s warning, Armstrong was wiping his tears into a huge tissue, Paninya was trying to sneak a small bottle from Roy’s back pocket and Al was probably telling Winry some embarrassing stories about Ed. For some reason, all of that made Ed feel calmer than he had felt in a long while.
Later that evening, Winry was sitting alone on the balcony, enjoying the fresh, cool air when Ed appeared behind her.
“Hi.”
“Hi. Why are you sitting here alone?”
“I guess I just wanted a moment to hear my thoughts. No offense, but you hockey players are loud.”
“You’re not wrong about that.” Ed rubbed the back of his head. “But your friends are kinda interesting bunch as well. You should have seen Havoc’s expression when that Paninya chick made a show of kissing Rose right in front of him. It was almost as if his hopes and dreams had both been shattered into pieces and fulfilled at the same time.”
“Oh, that definitely sounds like a Pan thing to do,” Winry laughed. “They’re great though. After losing my parents they’ve become like a new family to me. I guess you could say the same about your team.”
“I guess…”
“You said you have tried to push people out of your life, but you know, one way or another, you have affected all of them,” she gestured towards the full room. “They all care about you. And for some weird reason, so do I. You don’t have to carry your weight alone.
“Yeah…”
“I guess what I really wanted to tell you after our chat earlier is that if you think you’re the only person in this world who’s feeling guilty about something, I have some news for you. For so many weeks, I kept thinking that things would be so different if I had simply told my parents to not go into that car. Finally, my granny wrenched some sense into me and told me that I can’t change my past, but I can chance how it affects my future. It didn’t sink into me right away, but I understand what she meant now. I’m not saying that I’m never thinking about it anymore, because that’s a lie, but I know my parents would want me to live my life, so that’s what I’m doing. And that’s what you should do as well.”
Ed stared at her with surprise. He realized Winry’s words were very similar to the ones he had used when confronting Rose, but he wasn’t living by his own advice.
“I probably deserved that.”
“Yes, you did.” Her tone got softer when she continued: “By the way, I want you to know that I’m not going anywhere. We are way past that point now.”
For some reason, Winry’s statement made Ed remember the realities of their situation, and he asked: “How are we gonna stay in touch after the Olympics, though? We are both busy with our sports, traveling on different sides of the country and sometimes even out of country.” “Phones exist, Elric. If you know how to use one. And it’s not like I’m always gone, there are off-seasons, breaks, and so on… And to be honest, at the moment I can’t say how long I’m gonna continue my skating career. I’m kinda itching to move onto mechanics soon enough.
“Sounds like you have already given a lot of thought to your future.”
“What about you, though? Do you have any plans?”
“I want to continue playing as long as I can and study as much as I can. Maybe I have some other wishes as well, but… one day you might know.”
“You think so?”
“Yeah.”
Ed leaned his head against hers and wrapped one of his arms around her shoulder. They stayed like that for a good while, until the tender moment was interrupted by a crash inside the restaurant.
“What was that?” Winry asked worriedly.
Ed just sighed. “I think it’s time to take Havoc back to the hotel.”

Dec. 8 - Mistletoe - @omgcpwinterextravaganza  (Read on AO3)

Shitty started the tradition when he moved into the Haus. While he thought the mistletoe and kissing balls had roots in a patriarchal society that was constantly working towards the objectification of women, he also saw the yuletide tradition as a way to get his friends and teammates to open up more.
The plant itself was removed during kegsters, and the one time it was accidentally left up it resulted in one black-eyed Lax bro.
But other than that, come December, the mistletoe was moved around the Haus, surprising the people who got caught under it.
During his years at Samwell Shitty had caught almost each of his teammates under the mistletoe throughout the years and each responded in a different way.’

The first person he met under the mistletoe was Johnson. He didn’t know much about the goalie, as he was only in his sophomore year, but as he walked under the door jamb to the living room, the other man paused and pointed upward.
“This is a great plot device my man. Seriously, it’ll open up so many of the guys and unleash a torrent of UST plot lines, seuxality tropes, and crack fic,” he grinned, before grabbing Shitty by the cheeks and pulling him in for a kiss.
“I didn’t understand half of those words man, but sure thing,” he laughed, and then kept walking towards the couch. Sitting down Jack looked at him a little funny.
“Did you really have to put that up? I mean, isn’t it coercion?” the Canadian asked.
“Jacky boy, the team knows they can say no alright. If they don’t I’ll do what I do best. Expound on the virtues of consent until they run away or agree with me,” he smirked, and began to watch the game.

That same year, as Shitty walk walking up the basements steps, grabbing some beer for the party that night, when Holster decided to help him carry the cans to the fridge. As Shitty reached the landing he caught sight of the plant overhead and cleared his throat at his frog defenseman.
“Well well Holtzy, look at what we have here. You, me, and a weird English tradition probably co-opted from a pagan religion,” he began, wiggling his eyebrows.
“I swear you find any excuse to slip discussions of society,” Holster smirked, and let Shitty lean in for a chaste kiss to the lips.
At that moment Ransom came around the corner to see what was taking so long and choked on his drink.
“Whoa, sorry bros, didn’t mean to see that. I mean it’s totally cool, so yeah I’ll just go,” he squeaked out.
“Rans, mistletoe brah,” Holster explained, pointing upward.
“Right, right, mistletoe. That is totally a reasonable explanation as to why you’d be kissing a dude,” Ransom continued, clearly digging himself into a hole.
“You know there’s nothing wrong with kissing a dude right Ransom?” Shitty asked, getting a bit defensive.
“Of course not. There is nothing wrong with Holster, or anyone kissing a dude. Holster can kiss whatever dude he wants. Or whatever girl he wants. It’s not wrong or weird or unexpected” he rambled, and then turned on his heel and bolted into the living room.
“That was odd,” Holster muttered, not looking at Shitty, his gaze fixed on the spot where his friend had been.
Shrugging it off as just a freshman’s reaction to two dudes kissing for the first time, Shitty carried the beer to the kitchen and thought nothing off it. Well nothing until the following year when he saw the two defensemen doing a bit more than kiss under the sprig after Winter Screw.
The following morning, Ransom caught Shitty under the plant and planted a kiss hard on his mouth and proceeded to thank him before running back to the attic.

Bitty had been a bit weary when Shitty put up the plant above the door jamb to the kitchen. After all, Bitty was always in the kitchen when he stopped by the Haus, and he’d only been on the team for four month, and still wasn’t out.
But when he got caught under it with Shitty the older player had explained to Bitty the backstory behind the tradition and then gave him a peck on the cheek.
“No one here really forces anyone else to do it if they aren’t comfortable. I promise Bits, you’ve got nothing to fear. Just do what makes you feel the safest. No worries.”
The following year, after Bitty came out to Shitty, the two kissed in the same place as before, but this time Bitty was promising the graduating hockey player that he’d make sure the tradition lived on.

Catching the Frogs under the kissing ball was certainly an experience for each of them.
Chowder had been the first.
Shitty was putting up the mistletoe on December 1st while Chowder was in the kitchen. Once Shitty explained that it was a Samwell Men’s Hockey team tradition, Chowder enthusiastically ran over to kiss Shitty, and then spent the rest of the afternoon greeting each of his teammates with a variety of cheek and lip kisses.
Nursey was the next one. It was before their team gift exchange when Nursey was walking into the Haus and Shitty answered the locked door.
“Mistletoe Nurse. You can pay this toll via compliment or kiss,” he grinned, knowing what his former Andover classmate would choose.
“Always wanted to kiss a dude with a stache,” Nursey smirked and leaned in for a kiss. At that moment Chowder and Dex were walking up the stairs and caught sight of the pair kissing. Chowder for his part walked forward and gave Nursey a kiss while Dex hung back, his face bright red. Once everyone was inside, Dex walked through the doorway, making sure no one was in kissing distance.
Dex was the last member of the team Shitty managed to kiss and it wasn’t even in December.  It was during Lardo and Ransom’s birthday kegster that Dex walked up to Shitty, a picture of mistletoe on his phone.
“Nurse told me it bummed you out that I was the frog that got away, and that I should take my head out of my ass,” he explained, giving Shitty a tentative smile. For his part, the first year law student just smiled, and pulled Dex in for a hug before pecking him on the mouth.

Throughout his years at Samwell, Shitty had been asked by a lot of people if he was dating Jack Zimmerman, if he’d ever kissed Jack Zimmerman, and if he’d seen Jack Zimmerman’s butt up close in personal.
The answer to those questions were no, yes, and yes, but Shitty would never actually tell someone the truth.
While he didn’t have the honor of dating the Canadian Adonis he considered his best friend, it was more of a result of Shitty being tragically heterosomething and not because Jack wasn’t into guys.
The butt viewings were a by-product of hockey as well as Shitty’s habit of bargining into Jack’s room naked. By the third year of this happening Jack stopped caring about changing in front of Shitty outside of the locker room, and on one memorable occasion kept sitting at his desk naked as he wrote a paper, Shitty lounging on his bed, equally buff, reading for class.
But the kiss, well Shitty had kissed Jack Zimmerman on four separate occasions.
The first was during their freshman year. Jack had been stressing out over their playoff chances. Shitty had come to visit Jack in his dorm to find the room covered with plays and the laptop open to ESPN commentary about college hockey. Going into best friend mode, Shitty shut the laptop, cleaned up the paper, put on a Ken Burn’s documentary, and cuddled Jack. That night, when both boys were settled in for the night, Jack leaned over and kissed Shitty’s cheek as thank you.
The second time was during their junior year. Shitty was moving the mistletoe upstairs so it was out of the way during the post-Winter Screw party, when he ran into Jack on the stairs. Seeing his best friend with the plant in hand, Jack just smiled and as he passed Shitty placed a quick peck on his lips, before heading to the kitchen to grab a protein shake before the masses came through.
The third time was during their last year. Shitty was leaning against the kitchen door jamb, just having kissed Bitty again, as he explain to the tiny Southern baker the need to continue the tradition after he left, when Jack walked by him. Tapping his friend on the shoulder, Jack turned around and followed where Shitty’s eyes were looking and just smiled.
“Bittle, if you do continue this tradition, try to not be so obvious about your reasons,” he laughed, and wrapping Shitty around the waist, he dipped his best friend, kissing him.
Once Shitty was upright, he pulled away and placed his hands over his heart to swoon. “Jacky boy some person if going to be very lucky one day.”
“Whatever you say Shits,” Jack replied as he sat for dinner, not seeing the blush rising on Bitty’s cheeks.
Their most recent kiss though is years after Samwell. Shitty and Lardo are over at the Zimmerman-Bittle residence for the holidays and they’re opening gifts.
As Shitty and Lardo unwrap their presents, Bitty explains that he and Jack went to a random ornament painting class and made everyone their own ornaments. Lardo’s was made by Bitty who made an abstract ornament, while Jack made Shitty’s.
“Is this mistletoe?” the mustached man asked, his thumb caressing the ceramic reverently.
“Of course it is. What’s December without breaking the bonds of toxic masculinity,” Jack teased, and held the ornament over his best friend’s head and gave him a peck.
Shitty cried.

It was after the last winter kegster of Shitty’s senior year that Lardo finally confronted her friend.
Finding him on the porch, cleaning up the mess that had been made, Lardo tapped Shitty on the shoulder and held the mistletoe in front of him.
“I’ve known you for three years and not once have you and I been under this together. I know you’ve kissed the rest of the team but every time I even think that I might get to be a part of this tradition with you, you somehow vanish. So what gives? Is it because I’m a girl? Is it because I’m not on the team in the player sense? What is it Shits?”
To say he was caught off guard was an understatement, but doing his best to compose himself, Shitty cleared his throat to explain. “Lardo, when have I ever treated you differently because of your gender? And to say I don’t think you’re really on the team is a bit of an insult to the both of us. You’re the reason this team even functions, and whether or not you’re on the ice doesn’t make you any more or less a part of us. But, the truth is, I’ve wanted to kiss you for a long time, and you never seemed into the idea. And I thought if I did have the chance one day to do it, I didn’t want it to be from mistletoe, or a drinking game, or any other forced reason. So, I’m sorry if you felt left out, but this is just a game in a way...and you? You deserve more than that,” he finished, not looking Lardo straight in the eye.
Unsure of what to say the team manager turned to head back into the Haus, needing to process her thoughts.
But later that night, Lardo found Shitty in the reading room and kissed him. No mistletoe needed.

5 Reflections after 5 Years of Leading the Social Impact Organization Wish for WASH

Still reeling in the surreal. I was on stage with two other Georgia Tech women in STEM, wearing colorful dresses and talking about toilets. It was 2014, and we were bright-eyed and bushy-tailed undergraduates from one of the best colleges in the world. And we were driven by a mission — to bring innovation to sanitation with a gender equity and design thinking lens.
Then following the pitch, which I had overhauled a few hours before based on some last minute, deeply critical feedback, Emmy Award Winning CBS Contributor Faith Salie shouted our names on stage and on live TV that was being streamed across the state of the Georgia. We had won both the People’s Choice Award and the First-Place Award at the Georgia Tech Inventure Prize Competition, making us the first all-female team to win the largest undergraduate invention competition in the United States.

And from that moment on, I have continued speeding ahead full throttle across 10 countries, in the public, private and social enterprise sectors, and all in the name of inclusion and innovation in the sanitation sector. Still reeling in the surreal.
Six weeks after our astounding win, our team experienced our first “glow up” where we progressed from the on-stage foam prototype to nearly a dozen manufactured toilets which were shipped to a refugee camp in northern Kenya. Here, under the auspices of the sanitation enterprise Sanivation, we participated in our first usability pilot.
Our journey was launched in a beautiful display of love and community when our Georgia Tech peers, professors and individual families (Shout-out to the best parents and sister in the whole world!) hustled to help us. They helped us manually pull plastic toilet molds at strange hours in the Georgia Tech design shop, shipped the parts and construction materials to the refugee camp, and provided an enabling environment in which we could grow and thrive.
We concluded the summer with a series of learnings about how to improve our toilet based on user feedback, and we sought to iterate it in the name of design thinking, which has been integral to our work from the start. In the fall of 2014, I founded Wish for WASH, and I have grown by its side over the past 5 years.

While in this season of thanks, as I marinate and meditate on musings that are the Wish for WASH story, I want to share 5 notable reflections that are top of mind.
1. Defining What It Means To Be an Expert
I have frequently asked the people in my immediate spheres of influence about ‘what it means to be an expert’. Do you just wake up one day and feel that you have now absorbed enough knowledge in your interest area to claim the status of ‘expert’? Or do you immediately become an expert the day that you complete a degree or certificate program? Or if enough people call you an expert, is that when you become one?
I began grappling with this issue over the course of the past 5 years as I have increasingly been labeled as an expert when I myself had not yet claimed that professional status. Beyond talking and processing with my communities of support about this, I have also begun defining what ‘being an expert’ means to me and what things I will align with as well as what I will not align with.
For instance, my 5+ years of work in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector in primarily the innovator, researcher, and communicator functions does make me a relative expert in a host of roles within the WASH space. However, while my extensive work in Sub-Saharan Africa over the past 5 years gives me a more realistic and nuanced picture of the realities of WASH-related work within the region compared to others who have not worked in the region as long, it does not, by any means, make me an ‘African expert’, which is a label that has been given to me quite a few times over the past few years.
I have come to align with, and increasingly claim, my growing expertise in my technical area of interest (WASH); however, I do not subscribe to the notion that non-African nationals can be ‘African experts’ as I believe that reinforces a pervasive neocolonial narrative and silences the voices of the brilliant minds that are actually from the region. These definitions that I have outlined for myself have helped me in both my personal and professional development, as I strongly believe that words matter.
2. The Importance of Claiming Your Space
Similar to my personal journey with the term ‘expert’ as described previously, Wish for WASH as an organization has experienced a bit of mission drift as we sought to find our niche within the WASH sector. We started as solely a product company and then pivoted to include research and education, which has been an incredible adventure in finding a way to have sustainable impact through a mission-oriented organization.
Due to high manufacturing costs and the complexity of overall logistics, with the support of our organizational advisors and my individual mentors, we have needed to redefine ourselves several times over the past few years. But while that process was often ambiguous, for me as the lead, it is really amazing to reflect back and see where we are today: a network of 100+ young and diverse professionals, all under the age of 30, who have been a part of the Wish for WASH journey since 2014.
And we now can claim our space as our growing mission is to bring more diverse minds, talent, and innovation to the problems of global health and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) through the lens of research, design and education because #everybodypoops. With this change of our mission statement, it is clear that our organizational impact is no longer tied to the impact of a single toilet design, but it is captured by the youth-led and women-led movement that we have created to help the world reach the 6th Sustainable Development Goal. Claiming this space has enabled us to be more clear internally as we seek to grow in the future. I am incredibly grateful for the people who walked with me through all of these iterations and helped us reach this point of clarity and purpose.
3. Applying a Design Thinking Iterative Approach To Yourself
As a product designer with deep professional roots in the Design Thinking Methodology, I am quite familiar with the concept of not being married to any professional products that I create but being married to the process. The goal of approaching work in this way helps me to reframe ‘failures’ as just a part of the process of iteration and implementation until the output (be it a piece of design work, a research proposal, a manuscript, communications strategy, etc) best meets the needs of the end user or audience.
However, over the past few years growing as the leader of Wish for WASH, I have realized the importance of internally applying these same principles to myself. As a human-being who happens to be occupying a leadership role, I do make mistakes. And for me, some of those mistakes have hurt and felt more personal than others.
I am still working on truly internalizing this reflection into my life’s practice. However, I think the idea of approaching personal or leadership ‘failures’ as parts of the journey (and reframing them as opportunities to iterate and continue to grow) is a healthy way to strive to be both a responsible and servant leader. And in this increasingly polarized world, I have a deep respect for those who strive to lead with these leadership approaches.
4. The Need for Leaders to Lift As They Climb
Over the course of the past 5 years, it has become increasingly clear to me that ‘with great power comes great responsibility’. I have been blessed with incredible communities of support that have enabled me to grow and thrive as blossoming innovator and thought-leader in the WASH sector.
The opportunities that have been afforded to me by my communities of support have given me a platform to better advocate for increased representation of diverse voices in the WASH sector with a particular focus on women, youth, and people of color. I firmly believe in the notion that responsible and servant leaders seek to lift as they climb to amplify not only underrepresented voices in the sector, but the voices of their team to ensure their professional development and ownership of products.
The decentralized and remote nature of Wish for WASH has facilitated an environment where our team members have had the opportunity to own products and processes rather than having it all led directly by me. While there have been some logistical challenges, overall, our 5 Year Wish for WASH Impact Survey revealed the value of the professional development opportunities and autonomy afforded to our team members.
5. Family Over Everything
And last but not least — family. As a person of faith, this mantra has always been central to my ethos, and as a young and growing leader, I could not align with it more. For those who know me personally, you know that my family is my rock. They are my biggest cheerleaders, support system and enablers, despite how crazy my ideas may sound. My family is always there for me, no matter what the topic is or which time zone I am based in. And as I have gotten older, this blessing is not lost on me and I am so thankful for it.
Because of this, I have sought to create a family environment within Wish for WASH. While not completely successful and with room for improvement, I do think that my team members feel seen, heard and valued. The work that we do is important, but the people doing the work — and their stories, visions, and needs — are equally as important.

My biggest realization over the years is the value of loving your people. Seek to love your teammates, your co-workers, your supervisors. Despite hardships, obstacles and differences. Show up for them. And approach them with respect and grace. It is not always easy and is a space where I am excited to continue growing. But overall, family — no matter how you define it — is everything.
So with that, I am ecstatic to still be reeling in the surreal. It has been 5 years and we are just getting started. Happiest Birthday, Wish for WASH! I am forever grateful for the person you have inspired me, and continue to inspire me, to become and the amazing people that I am blessed to work and grow with.
Onwards and upwards. The best is yet to come.

1. Forgiveness is the best gift you can give to yourself. By learning to forgive yourself and forgive those who have hurt you, you’re allowing yourself to continue to grow as a person. Even if you don’t feel as though they deserve it, forgive someone for your own peace of mind. Forgive them so you can release the pain they caused and move on.
2. Acceptance takes time. You have to try your best to focus on the things you CAN control, not the things, people, or situations you can’t. You can’t control the opinions others have of you; you can’t control how they choose to treat you, their attitudes, or their outlook on life. What you can control is how you respond. Release your grip, take a deep breath, roll with it, make changes for yourself when you need to, and take it all as a learning experience.
3. Set boundaries for people who create negative energy in your life. Some people are unhappy with their own lives and they tend to take it out on those closest to them. Don’t be someone’s punching bag. Take the space you need for yourself. Your well-being comes first. If someone is overstepping their bounds and has unrealistic or extreme expectations from you, it is okay to step back and take a break from that person. Maybe during that time, they’ll re-evaluate the way they treat you and learn how to better respect you and your boundaries.
4. No matter how hard you try, you will never be able to please everyone. People come with their own set of thoughts and opinions—attempting to find what makes all of those people with all of those different preferences happy is exhausting and often a recipe for disaster and pure stress. Also remember, you’ll never be able to make a person who is internally unhappy happy. It just doesn’t work that way. No matter how much good you do for them, how much support or love you give them, or how many times you’ve showed them you care, it most likely will never be enough in their eyes. These are the people who only focus on what you don’t or haven’t done for them, rather than all you have done. And at the end of the day, their battle is within themselves, not with you.
5. You will lose friends as you grow older. The older you get, the more you start realizing who has your back, who makes an effort to be in your life, and who never really had your back in the first place. Your twenties and thirties are a time when you and your friends are all at different points in your lives. Everyone’s path is different.  True friends, regardless of where they are in life or what’s going on in their world, will always be there for you, no matter what. The haters will probably further distance themselves from you and will start giving you some weird vibes. They may be gaslighting or manipulating you to make you feel as though you did something wrong or try to paint you as a bad person when you’re not. Whatever happened, let the resentful ones go, even if it hurts—especially if they aren’t willing to hear you out or see your side. They need to work on finding themselves before they can ever be happy for anyone else.
6. You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone. Live your life, focus on you and bettering yourself each and every day, do your best, do some good, care for others, continue to discover who you are, and live to be your true self. There are times to speak your mind and times when silence is much more powerful. You must learn to be okay with people not knowing your side of the story. If they aren’t willing to hear it anyway, then why waste your energy and effort on them?
7. No matter how much we worry, things tend to have a way of working themselves out. Things always have a way of working out, but remember to try and keep a positive attitude and mindset along the way. No matter how many scenarios you play out in your head, no matter how much time you spend dwelling or how much stress and pressure you put on yourself, whatever’s meant to happen will happen.
8. Your life partner should be your teammate. Every relationship is going to hit rough patches, there are going to be arguments big and small, and there are going to be times when the strength of your relationship is tested. Life isn’t perfect, and no relationship ever will be. But the thing is, if you’re with the right person, you will be able to get through anything if you work together as a team. ou should be able to lean on each other, lift each other up, and help each other get through darker times. You should never have a doubt in your mind about that person. Through it all, you know there is no one else you’d rather go through life with—through the ups, downs, and every challenge you may face together. Relationships should never be an everyday struggle. If you’re finding yourself running in circles, facing the same issues time and time again with no changes being made or no serious plans for change, then it may be time to reevaluate the relationship in its entirety. A partner should not only be a teammate but your best friend and support system, willing to do whatever it takes to keep the relationship alive, stable, and joyful.
9. Remind yourself that it’s just a bad day, not a bad life. Every bad day will always pass, I promise. The sun will rise again and tomorrow will come. You will get out of that black hole; you will have better days. For now, surround yourself with people who love you or take time to be alone and process. Whatever you need, just do what’s best for you.
10. Letting go is difficult but necessary. I’ve had to let go of people who hurt me countless times despite my love and care for them, people who were so miserable with their own lives that they unknowingly used me as their punching bag and put blame on me when I wasn’t at fault. I’ve had to let go of being so hard on myself that I was becoming my own worst enemy, and I’ve had to let go of this notion that if you do your best for someone, they’ll do the same back for you—because honestly, that’s not how it always works. You will never heal if you don’t learn to let go. If 2019 taught me anything, it’s that you must let go. Start by letting go of anything bad that happened this year. The heartache, the bad days, the things that went horribly wrong, the people who let you down, the people who hurt you, the times you wanted to scream, the times you wanted to give up—take it all and let it go. However you choose to do it, let it go, and set your sights on 2020. A blank slate. A fresh start.
