Weekend Milestone #2 achieved: 2 day career strategy development for an emerging artist. His music sounds great (Jeff Buckley + The Cure + something unique). But without a clear plan, it will be lost in a few likes on social media and maybe a few downloads or streams from friends. This may sound very familiar to some? I find that musicians want to make a living from their music but are afraid to shift from treating their talent as a hobby and begin treating it as a business. You won’t succeed until you make that shift and are willing to work on your “music business”. We just spent 2 full days breaking apart everything from Brand + Fan Engagement + Content + Marketing and Release Strategy. Hard work that turned into a lot of clarity and the start of a 12 month plan for his career growth. There are no handouts and no saviours to come and “make me famous”, only hard work and talent. Swiss-artist Olaf Bruening spent 16 years developing his practice in New York City before moving Upstate to find a measure of solitude in his work environment. Functioning as both an archive of past work and a place for new creative explorations, the former two-car garage that houses Breuning's studio provides a haven for contemplation. Berlin Art Link Productions visited his studio to talk about the works of photography, drawing, sculpture, and film that connect in a distinct visual language over the span of his career and how he sees his artistic process evolving over the last decades.

Had the pleasure & opportunity to be on the pilot of a talk show for @ohiamorrison. We spoke a lil bit of everything from moving out of the east coast right before the pandemic to the midwest. To the growing film industry in Oklahoma. To balancing family time & chasing your dreams. We even had a lil fun seeing & learning about some exotic pets. Being an artist is about more than just posting pretty pictures of your artwork online. It’s also a form of expression; it’s a way for us to be able to put our thoughts and emotions out there in a way that others may relate to it. A picture really is worth a thousand words. . . . I’ve gotten better over the years, but I’ve always had such a hard time putting my thoughts or feelings out there in a way that would make sense to others. Perhaps you’ve noticed this if you watch any of my YouTube videos. I’ve found it difficult to express whatever’s been on my mind ever since I was young. On the other hand, give me a pen or paintbrush and I find it a lot easier to tell my story. Whether writing or painting, I discovered this many years ago when dealing with massive amounts of anxiety. It all seemed to dissipate once I started painting-the world got a little quieter and more peaceful and I felt like others were just beginning to understand who I am, my story. . . . This piece is titled “Grow” and was inspired by the lemon tree in my studio that has continued to grow and flower despite being exposed to a long, cold winter. Here in Minnesota the weather has been so bipolar and we would experience all four seasons in a matter of a few days. Being an artist that is just kickstarting her career, there have been many ups and downs and some days the motivation just isn’t there. In these moments, I aspire to be like my Minnesota lemon tree. It just keeps growing and hanging on despite the cold and the many changes in weather; it serves as a reminder that winter only a season. It ends eventually and spring always arrives again sooner or later. . . . If you’ve been stuck as well, I hope this inspires you to keep reaching for the stars. You’ll get there eventually.
