In honour of Women's History Month, Ava DuVernay’s independent film distribution company, ARRAY, hosted a 12-hour “Rebel-A-Thon,” on Twitter. The aim of the virtual event, which took place on 1 March and ran under the hash tag #ArrayToday, was to celebrate the work of females behind the camera, as well as to “unite women filmmakers with film lovers online.” DuVernay, Amma Asante, Julie Dash, Gina Price-Bythewood and Mira Nair were only a few of the event's participants. They offered supportive and empowering messages to their female colleagues, answered fan questions, and gave advice to aspiring filmmakers. For Women's History Month, Ava DuVernay is highlighting female filmmakers on Twitter

On Wednesday, Oscar-nominated director Ava DuVernay is hosting a 12-hour conversation — or "Rebel-a-Thon" — on Twitter, with nearly 30 female filmmakers.

The discussion will use the hashtag #ArrayToday to celebrate the start of Women's History Month. Array is DuVernay's independent film collective.

"We offer this year's Rebel-a-Thon as an opportunity to highlight the important contributions made by women filmmakers," Tilane Jones, Array's executive director, said in a statement Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Times. Dr. Dorothy Height - Black History. Women's History. American History. World History.

Today, in honor of telling important stories (thanks for the reminder, Hidden Figures and #ArrayToday), I am sharing the story of the dynamic and legendary Dorothy Irene Height. We have so many important stories to tell in this country - hers is one of many that more children and adults should know.
