Dropping head canons like gifts this week and here's yours:

Armand and Daniel have been using their hunts at Trinity Gate as a kind of therapy to work through the journey that led them to here. Trinity Gate is always so filled with prying ears and Benji's weirdly open about just coming up to Daniel and asking him about his life as the Devil's Minion.

Out on their hunts, they get to just be themselves, whether that's Daniel being nostalgic, Armand taking charge, or Daniel being sassy. Actually, Daniel's mostly being sassy around whatever else they end up talking through.

He knows through Marius, before Armand admits it himself, that Armand's already wary of the differences between the ways the two of them feed. And one of Daniel's favourite ways to sass Armand becomes making a mess with his food and pretending nothing's wrong.

What's that? There's no blood there? Oh, there is a couple of trickles? That's fine, Daniel's just saving that for later. You know how these younger fledglings are with needing to feed more often...

On one of the times Marius visits New York he actually takes Daniel up on the offer to join them. He's heard about what Daniel does on their hunts, of course, because even on two different continents there still aren't any secrets between Daniel and Marius. But this is the first time he's seen it in person.

And he has a decision to make, doesn't he? Because he can either agree with Armand that this is gross and beneath them as immortals - "Daniel, you *are* an immortal now, you need to behave like one" - or get the rise out of his own fledgling by pretending nothing's amiss, given he certainly can't bring himself to condone Daniel's behaviour.

It's a really fucking difficult decision. Marius only gets one choice, and Daniel's the only one of the two who can see the thoughts in his mind.

"Daniel's just saving that for later" I'm shaking with laughter right now imagining this scene: Armand's incredulous expression, Marius completely straight faced and even toned, and Daniel with a face and collar soaked in blood

I wonder if part of it is that Marius knows Daniel is trying to get a reaction out of them, and doesn't want to incentivise the behaviour by giving in. However Daniel is nothing if not persistent, so whether Marius remains firm in not giving Daniel the reaction he wants, or whether Daniel manages to wind both Armand and Marius up enough to get the dual punishment he's after, I'll let you decide 😌

On that front I think about Daniel baiting Armand and Marius into mutually disciplining him a lot, he just likes to see them working together okay? And Daniel is more than happy to take one for the team if it brings the two people he loves closer together. He's selfless like that 😏😉

It had been Lestat's idea, the flowers, standing here now Marius wasn't sure it was the best idea. Yet here he was and he could hardly walk away now.

"He'll appreciate them, trust me."

Lestat had said.

Marius had no doubt Armand would like the flowers for their looks. The meanings however where what changed his usually calm expression into one of concern. He'd picked the blooms with the help of the florist: Red roses for love and passion, forget me not for devotion and memory, heliotrope for eternal love, and white tulips, for an apology.

It was a letter written in a gathering of flowers. Words he found hard to say otherwise, or didn't know how to say. The bouquet felt heavy in his arm though the flowers weighed nothing to him. The white flowers so simple yet the whole thing pivoted around them. He couldn't remember if he had ever voiced those words. The thought of retribution too much. He hoped that if Armand didn't want to hear it that he would simply ignore the deeper meaning of the flowers and spare him the sting of rejection.

Fluffy Friday headcanon, here we go: at some point in post canon Daniel shows up in Marius’s studio. He is visibly nervous and asks him for a drop of his blood. Marius is a bit surprised, because only one drop, are we getting modest, dear boy? And then Daniel opens his palm and shows him a small amulet with a tiny vial- a simple but very pretty one, totally different from the one he had so long ago- telling him that, no, he will never become modest, but he wants to give this to Armand with a drop of both their blood in it. Like a promise of a new beginning, so Armand, who always feared abandonment will know that both, his maker and his fledgeling are always with him. Does Marius think this is a good idea?

He certainly does, and if anyone asks him during the next court session why his eyes look so wet, its hayfever, thankyouvermuch.

AAAAAAH OMG. I love this so much! 😭😭

I totally headcanon Daniel as a thoughtful gift-giver, he just strikes me as someone who's good at giving presents that are meaningful. And this is the most meaningful gift ever! An amulet for Armand to keep his maker and fledgling with him at all times?? Like that is so perfect for Armand, who often fears being abandoned! Holy shit, what an incredible idea!

I'm with Marius, it's just allergic in here.

i'm sorry if this is a bad question, but do you know anywhere online that i can read the vampire chronicles books for free? i don't want to ask my parents for money, i don't think they'd approve of me reading these types of books. i'm 19 but financially dependent on them for the foreseeable future so i don't wanna make them mad

Truly, my sympathies to people watching IWTV and are getting tired/bored of different perspectives. I'm not bored or even remotely tired.

Interviews by their very nature are perspective based. The story has this specific framing. As did the first book. They added to it with Armand now being an active participant and Daniel being more seasoned at interviewing. I understand how Armand's very edited and hyperbolic take on events that Book Lestat describes in The Vampire Lestat rubs people the wrong way. I do think that one could argue the way Lestat writes his own autobiography is the objective truth (note Armand in his book does not contradict Lestat). However, sorry to say, there is never an objective truth. The truth is always subjective.

I was raised by a whole family of lawyers and if I learned anything is that you can spin things in any way, but an objective truth will never exist. Not in crime, not in person to person storytelling, not in fictional storytelling. Hell, viewers seeing the SAME show CANNOT come to a consensus. Why? Because we all put our thoughts, experiences, and feelings to it. That's all perspective.

We see Louis give Armand a kiss in bed. Some think aw domestic and cute. Some think Louis is deliberately withholding and rewarding Armand for good behaviour. Some saw the act they put on in E2 as some version of truth and domesticity and some think it's only an act. Some think Dreamstat is actual Lestat out there somewhere and some think it's Louis' conscience.

Yes, the narrative will confirm one thought or another on some things but not all of them. They're deliberately left up to interpretation. Something btw, Lestat urges the reader to do in TVL when he does not go into details about his time with Louis and Claudia. And part of that has to do with perspective.

We could have a straightforward narrative with no corrections and no perspectives. But would that be as interesting as seeing how minds that far exceed our own twist and bend and interpret events? Would it be as interesting as seeing a vampire who tells himself a story so that he can carry on living despite being miserable? Would it be as interesting as this vampire who tells himself a story get pushback on what he's saying by someone who notices errors and inconsistencies? Would it be an interview at all? Or would it be, as Daniel put it in the very first episode, "a fever dream told to an idiot."

If you want a straightforward non-challenging version of the story, the 1994 movie exists. It's not perfect and a lot of details are missing, but there's only one, unchallenged perspective to it. And even then...how many people didn't (want to) see the queerness in it?

TL;DR I get being frustrated or tired or bored by the way the show is trying to tell the story, but at least it's doing something a little different and not word for word.

The similarities between "Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion" and the murals at the Villa of the Mysteries are making me deeply unwell in ways that should be studied.

The Bacon triptych is from 1944, just before Armand and Louis met. It is reminiscent of the modern art Armand says he cannot love or understand which he compares to Louis in the book, distant from him before their breakup. It could possibly be taken as a symbol of Loumand's relationship.

The other paintings are mentioned in devil's minion and associated with Armand's relationship with Daniel of course, but they also put me in mind of Marius (classical Roman art, flagellation, the color red). In the book, the Villa murals are "looking on" as Armand and Daniel consummate their relationship--almost like Marius is haunting them.

Not sure what any of this means, but paintings are clearly significant in this show. Super excited to add more red string to my pepe silvia board!

I've read The Vampire Lestat and understood something about Armand. He's very good at reading minds and blocking his own. And this could make sense if we look at him as a victim of violence.

TW, sorry

He was tortured by humans. He saw Marius' "death". He was tortured again by Santino and his vampires. He was forsed to change his world view and become a part of the cult just because he wanted to survive. And after that he often needed someone to show him the way and the world: Marius, Santino, Lestat, Louis, even Daniel.

So let's think. As far as I know from psychologists, when a person spends a lot of time with a torturer, they start to try to "read their mind", to guess their mood and to make as good impression as possible. Just for survival.

Don't you think that this is exactly what Armand doing, but with his vampire skills?

Always looking for a danger. Reading Lestat's mind and making him in love with him, when Lestat was the danger for the cult. Torturing Nicki, when he was the danger for the Theatre. And in the show probably changing Louis' and Daniel's memories, when he feels fear for his normal life.

If the show makes something like that, it will be very good. They already shows us a problem of domestic violence, so they could do it great.

(It's hard for me to think about it. All this vampires need a long therapy)

Mmkay.

I don't think anyone guessed it was Claudia coming out of the foxhole, but there it is. She looks miserable. Louis' "our life sucks" speech makes a lot of sense.

Armand is...fraying here. Good. Glad we're seeing some of my boy's fragile mental health and how intense he can get.

Could be Gabrielle, could be Nicki. I think either one of them coolly watching Lestat get yeeted would be IC. It's just what they'd do afterward that would be different. It does look like brown hair to me, though, so yeah.

Clothing from the 1780's. It's possible Lestat got turned earlier than stated in s1, closer to when he was turned in the books, unless his acting career lasted a lot longer in this version than in the books. It was his acting that caught Magnus' attention. But you look at those flowing gowns, a silhouette somehow transitory between the 1770's cone-shaped torso and the 1790's-regency empire waist, plus the shape of the ladies' wigs, that's very classic 1780's.

Is this how Lestat learns Armand's life story, instead of Armand kinda mentally short-circuiting and projecting it telepathically?

PAINTER ARMAND? I can't tell what era this is in, but there was never a point in the books where Armand was able to get past painting as a trauma trigger. It wasn't even something he liked that much in the first place, but that's probably because his dad made it not-fun anymore.

Agreed that this is Marius. There's no reason for David to come into the story this early, and if he did, he'd probably just introduce himself as head of the Talamasca to provide receipts for his knowledge.
