WIZARD - for arcanium
Writer Ask Game - Fantasy
WIZARD - Who is your favourite character in this WIP? Describe them!
Tumblr media
Quite a few, actually: Gracie, Des, Ers (Erudan), and Yara. Please see under the cut for the descriptions for everybody!
I have an extreme bias for Des even from the get-go! While her affinity with dark magic does call for a darker and drabber palette - familiarity and association sometimes trump originality and uniqueness, after all - her femininity and ethnicity as a Verdant still allow me to get very playful and colorful with her designs. She deserves only the best.
In terms of writing a character's "voice", my favorite is Gracie. You would not guess that this girl who acts dumb, frail, and naive in many social situations is actually well-read in politics, history, and culture. While she is quite bad at making good choices in her personal life, she abides by reasonable principles when there are people affected on a massive scale.
Among Lia's crew, my favorite to imagine for is Ers. He's probably had more adventures than Lia and Rena combined, but that's probably because I have a clearer vision of who I want him to be. He's the guy who's working for the sake of "glory" - or to be more specific, to clean the name of his kin and his former village and start anew with honor. Like Des, he is no-nonsense, but in a brighter, more positive way. He has extensive knowledge of how to work with animals, hence he's the group's dragon rider. He never asked for proficiency with weapons, but he is willing to use it for Lia's mission… or to hunt for food.
Among the villains, I favor Yara, not just because her design is too cool for words, but also by her willingness to do what she's set to do. Imagine a mortal who became immortal, then one day lost that privilege... For me she is forced by the narrative to be an antagonist. Had it been any other way, she'd just be a friend.

Game of the Year 2022: Not the Top 10
Best Music
Tunic
youtube
2022 had a lot of great games, and a lot of great game music. I had a hard time choosing a favorite, but I ultimately landed on Tunic. I went with the soundtrack that was most reminiscent of Fez, which I find to be an excellent tiebreaker.
Also great soundtracks: Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Citizen Sleeper, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Tactics Ogre Reborn, Shadows Over Loathing, River City Girls 2, I was a Teenage Exocolonist, Soul Hackers 2 Best Comfort Game
Power Wash Simulator
Tumblr media
I play a lot of games as chill, second-screen experiences. Power Wash Simulator was a Zen, peaceful, primary-screen experience. There’s a beauty and a peace to completing a small, manageable task. Power Wash Simulator captures this feeling well.
Also cozy: Across the Obelisk, Disney’s Dreamlight Valley, Arcanium
Best Early Access
20 Minutes Till Dawn
Tumblr media
I’ve become more selective about how I engage with early access. I’ve noticed that I will sometimes burn out on a game in its early access stage, then when 1.0 comes around the excitement is gone. That said, I’m still a game junkie and I did play some fine early access titles. The best of them is my favorite of the Vampire Survivors-likes (survivors-likes?) that I’ve played: 20 Minutes Till Dawn. The game has plenty of characters and weapons to unlock, an oppressive color scheme that is mostly black, dark green, and red, and a bangin’ soundtrack.
Also fine early access titles: Slime Rancher 2, Disney’s Dreamlight Valley, Demeo, The Iron Oath
Looking Forward to It
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Tumblr media
An unnecessary remake perhaps, but I’ve tried playing RE4 and cannot get past the controls. It’s said to be the best in the series and one of the best games ever made, so if they put a fresh coat of paint on it and modernize the control scheme? I am here for it.
Also geeked to play: Sea of Stars, Hades II, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, Like a Dragon: Ishin, Fire Emblem Engage, Octopath Traveler II, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Most Disappointing
Ooblets
Tumblr media
I’ve been looking forward to this game since it was first announced in 2016. It’s a game where you run a farm in a small town and grow crops and talk to people and you collect little guys and engage in dance battles with them by way of a deckbuilding card game and holy shit.
I got what was advertised, I just...didn’t connect with it. The only real complaint I have with the game is that the dialogue and item names are about 50% too twee and cutesy-wutesy for me. It certainly isn’t bad, it’s just another game that I have a perfectly pleasant time playing, and then I’m not drawn to pick it back up again. No reason to keep dragging myself back to a game if I’m not feeling it.
Also disappointing: Stranger of Paradise, Sunday Gold
It’s not You, it’s Me
Tunic
Tumblr media
I want to love Tunic. It’s such a neat thing, especially the way you’re collecting and referencing pages of a manual, lovingly crafted in the style of the NES manuals I grew up with. I should love this game, but I just don’t. My big hang up was frequently not knowing where to go. Unlike Fez the world didn’t feel too big, it felt too small. I had to backtrack and search and search to find new areas to visit. And while the stuff I’d find was frequently super cool, the ratio of searching to finding frustrated me.
Also deserves better from me: Moss Book II, Pentiment
Old Game of the Year
Bravely Default 2
Tumblr media
Holy shit I JRPG’d very hard this year. Bravely Default 2 miiiiight be my favorite of the bunch. The game’s class system and battle system are top notch, and it offers a ton of customization. I was initially turned off by the chibi look of the character models, but I ended up hooked on the game (enough that I put off playing newly-released Xenoblade Chronicles 3 so I could finish this game first).
Also good games released prior to 2022: Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, XCOM: Chimera Squad

Father’s Day Part 2: 10/12-10/13/2019
Starring Abby as: Flinty McClintock Puffin McClintock Mungo Fungo as: Mugo Mugo  Molly as: Ardis Sarmasik as: ”Tiger” Beatrice Catamount Maddie McCallister Jesse as:  Bon Jean Bovi as: Bon Jean Bovi Beldric Bolton-Sarmasik Aparna “Panther” Panchali as: Armad Arcanium

Sanuwa Sawbones
Unable to quell Bovi, Tartuffe enlists Ardis to put him to bed with an interactive fable based on a favorite bardic college past-time, Jensen’s Aleatoric Combat Mnemonics. He explains the rules and instructs Ardis to play Tiger Beatrice, while Bovi insists on playing as himself. As he begins to tell the heavily abridged tale of the death of the vampire Oskar Sarmasik, Mungo barges in to take over and the two squabble and fight.
While the night stretches on anxiously for the rest of the group downstairs, waiting for the princess to arrive with news, people trickle in and out of Bovi’s room to contribute to the story. Panther interjects with her own character, a rowdy cat-person named Armad Arcanium, Chanchala seizes control of the tale to have Bovi’s in-game persona beaten to death, and finally Tiger Beatrice settle in at the bedside as Hesperus.
Meanwhile things develop in the outside world-- fires and riots begin to break out across the city as Weil’s golem continues its advance, the palace has been engulged in a macabre fleshy bulb, and every warlock bonded to the valley falls violently ill. Astrid and Ilan arrive to brief Flinty and Mungo on the situation: ever since the wave of sickness hit the warlocks, Viceroy Pitchfork has been off the grid, and every member of his private army has seemingly vanished, leaving the city in chaos and the gutted Gentle Guild unable to restore order. The Wardens are split between trying to get through the bulb and attempting to put down the worst violence, mostly Kugari and the Colonel’s gangs taking advantage of the situation. What’s worse, the Viceroy and the Peacemasters authorized the use of the golem to destroy quarantined areas-- first the Old City, then the palace.
Inside, Mungo takes inventory of the wounded and weakened warlocks, and in doing so discovers Marcel Reinrose’s surveillance. Tartuffe attempts to explain himself but eventually gives up and wipes Mungo’s memory.
Everyone gathers to figure out what to do. Tavi & co. reveal that they do have something close to a solution, a way of interfacing with the spore species that Vejovis’ spell has summoned and which constitute the actual pathogen of the plague. However to open up a channel powerful enough to banish them will require a massive expenditure of energy-- akin to the sacrifice Zimitra made decades ago during the last plague. They’ve accounted for this however and have three subjects prepared to chip in-- Tavi, Puffin, and Mungo. They explain that, best case scenario, they will be drastically fatigued afterwards, and will need an escort of strong warriors to help them get up the tower and back, as well as a fourth volunteer. Vos volunteers, rudely, but no better options present themselves.
Rumbleforce (and the Bachelor) agrees to go off and deal with the golem while the Crystal Cats escort the nerds. Astrid provides the assembled parties with a number of sending earrings so everyone can remain in touch.
With no time to spare Flinty gets Albertine on the horn and blackmails her into giving them a lift across town in her hideous horseless carriage. Flinty quickly becomes furious at her slow, safe, sane driving and seizes control, tearing through sewers and over ramps, quickly getting Albertine’s eventually destroyed car to the Old City. There, they meet with a band of Handsome Lads and the ad hoc ruling body of the island-- Bovi finally gets to meet with Billy and extend his loving sentiments. The leaders-- Billy, Gniece Quoyn, Aloysius Snaxxx, and an unnamed fourth-- have a plan to protect the island, but the spokesperson for the Handsome Lads, good old Jag Dillweed, proposes taking Rumbleforce to meet an eccentric retired halfling engineer, Yotoni Toni, the eponymous Toni of the “Toni Pepperoni” chain of pizzeria/arcades, to discuss a radical plan of his. Albertine reunites with her brother, briefly, and attempts to explain the situation with their inheritance, but he’s in no mood for this shit.
Yotoni has become a reclusive mystic in his cluttered garage, having flavor-blasted life until it became death, and kicked creation up a notch until it ate its own tail and embraced the generativity of destruction. In short he turns his back on pizza and animatronic characters in favor of enormous bombs and miniature tanks fueled by pizza grease and nitroglycerine. He shows them his bodacious masterpiece, a series of seven components which can combine into one fully-loaded war-machine. By turns incredulous, terrified, and delighted, Rumbleforce divvies up responsibilities. Bovi calls dibs on being the blue one and becomes the left leg, Flinty stridently demands to be the head, Ardis, crammed into an iron lung and doused in Trauma Sauce, is the heart. Albertine and the Bachelor volunteer for the arms, and Beldric drunkenly insists on being the dick (Toni obligingly lets him control the robot’s tail). Fiz bravely offers to be the remaining leg. They clumsily take off towards the bay and the slowly approaching golem, where Weil perches, controllings it moves with the help of the helmet.
Things go poorly. First the robot blunders and falls into the water, then the Bachelor recognizes his boss as the pilot of the golem and begins to sabotage the whole thing, snapping off Albertine’s rocket hand and throwing it into the ocean, then sabotaging his own controls however he can. Rumbleforce runs damage control on his nonsense, Bovi by sending Hambeaux up to seize the reins, Flinty by summoning her new familiar thing to scramble the Bachelor’s brains. He eventually gives up and ejects. Meanwhile the Bachelor closes the gap and begins to savagely dominate the Rumblebot in melee, tearing off the tail and severing the leg. Bovi responds by kicking a hole in his hull, and after Albertine perilously leaves her damaged cockpit and crosses over to the Bachelor’s empty one, she and Flinty combine their attacks to take out the golem’s arm and heavily damage his outer shell further. The two colossi continue to tear each other apart again as Ardis struggles to reroute maintenence to where its needed most. In the midst of this she succumbs to the LCL or whatever and dreams of the day her father abandoned her-- but in this dream she meets Gus Flank, who begs her to rescue him from Weil and end his spree of carnage. He offers to lend her more power and she accepts.
Weil’s golem is on its last legs, so he gives one last final assault, decapitating the rumble bot and rendering the remaining arm useless, before personally running across to the robot to finish things. Ardis notes this and clambers out of the chest to meet him on the damaged neck. He taunts her for making her last stand alone, and flaunts his connection with the helmet, using its enhanced senses to effortlessly dodge even her most skillful attacks. However, eventually her friends join in from below however they can-- Albertine shouting inspiring words from the water, and Flinty, from the bridge, using her familiar or whatever it is to heal Ardis and distract Weil. Eventually Ardis lands a hit, and then another, shocking Weil and sending him into a fury of smites. Between his rage and a few well-placed potshots from the Bachelor, relocated to a roof across the bay, Ardis is reduced to her last few hit points when Weil suddenly freezes mid-swing, the helmet refusing to cooperate, overheating rapidly. As he sears his hands trying to tear the helmet off, Ardis presses her advantage, darting around him with Beatrice’s rapier until, badly burnt, confused, and terrified, he makes his escape, abandoning his golem and Pitchfork’s plan.
In the aftermath, however, the Old City Court’s own contingency plan goes through and the entire island fades from existence, unfortunately (?) with Albertine on it. Flinty is pessimistic and annoyed at Bovi’s hopefulness, and they take the moment of calm to check in with the other group. The halflings have been separated from the Crystal Cats by a rapid growth in the plant defenses around the palace, and have fallen back to Crystal Cats HQ, while the Cats themselves remain trapped within the palace ground. Rumbleforce decides to hijack a boat and go back to the mainline to pick up Mungo’s crew.
At the Cats HQ, an unusually helpful and cheerful Chanchala helps clothe and feed refugees from the chaos. Rumbleforce checks in with everyone and then Flinty goes to investigate. She discovers some shocking things-- first, that “Chanchala” is just a projection and that the “real” Chanchala is her shadow, which is off somewhere feeding. The projection explains that the warlocks’ pacts have been displaced by something else, a byproduct of the plague or otherwise some creation of Vejovis. Any one of them could be a potential enemy. Sawbones is still in her monstrous form, and everyone speculates that it has to do with her bonding to her haunted dad. Ardis reminds everyone that she has a bottle of Dad’s Elixir from way back when Vejovis was just an eccentric ally, and Mungo recklessly chugs it. Everyone is horrified except for Tavi and Puffin, who explain that due to a serum distilled from Vos’ blood sample, this will just allow him to try to communicate with the colony creature of the spores. Mungo moves off to burp in peace at the spores, while Tavi administers the serum to Ardis and Flinty in preperation for their final assault on the palace.

Hands + Nate
[drabble request! i tried going into some nate backstory because i want to explore the parts of his life where he wasn’t such a prickly hedgewitch]
“Here Nathan, like this.”
His mother’s hands cover his own and guides them in a careful spiral. The boy gently squeezes the pastry bag at her instruction. When they’re finished, a series of wobbly white roses adorn the corner of the cake. He pauses and surveys his work.
“Good job,” his mother says warmly, raking her fingers through his hair. Her palms and fingers are calloused from whisking and chopping and stirring each day. Flour still dusted her skin. “Oops, got some on ye.” She laughed and reached out to brush it away.
“Moooom! You’re just movin’ it around!” But the boy giggled and ducked out of the way. He leaned on the counter, looking more content with his work on the cake. “I think they’ll like it.”
“Oh, you do?”
“Yeah! You’re the best at kitchen magic, duh,” he said, with the conviction only an eight year old can have. It was common sense; mom’s cooking always made him feel better. Mom’s cooking made everyone feel better. That’s why she was owned this diner.
She slid the cake onto a round platter and covered it with a glass dome. “Well then, it’ll go front and center on the counter. I’m going to help with the lunch rush. Be good, alright?” She gave him a quick kiss on the head and swept through the double doors.
***
He checked over his notes one more time. This was going to work. Probably.
Nate inhaled slowly and felt for it. Not that this part was difficult; Avalon’s headquarters sat on top a massive ley line.
It’s the gift of a witch. To see and touch those currents. To bend them to your will.
He reached out. It buzzed against his skin like static.
Magic’s a gift, boy, but not everyone is strong enough to use it.
He drew it in, like many tiny glowing moths to a flame.
Not everyone is willing to reach out and take what is theirs.
He clenched a fist, muttered a word and raised the hand above his head. Pillars of ice crashed through the tile. Frost spidered across what remained of the floor. Nate had to brace himself against the frigid aura of his own ice spell.
“Your range leaves something to be desired, but good work! Still I would have gone with something more subtle, especially if I were trespassing.” Nate spun around.
A man stood in the door of the practice room, the crisp lines of his dark suit stark against the light from the hallway. This is it. I’m dead. Dead man walking. Maybe if he was quick he could part the stone wall and escape? But the spell died on his lips. Of course. Of course he had a silencer ready. Of course I missed that little goddamn detail. Nate steeled himself; back straight, athame ready. If he had to die then he could at least not die like a coward.
The man walked forward and smiled, holding out a card in a gloved hand. “How would you like to talk about….hm, an employment opportunity?”
***
The bed creaked as a second weight dropped into it. “Morning, Milo.”
“It’s past three, Nate.”
He cracked open his eyes and reached over for his cell. 3:27 pm. “Well, shit.”
“Is this how you wanna spend your day off? Curled up in bed? Without me?” Milo snickered as he flopped down onto Nate’s bed. “Seriously man, you’ve been sleeping a lot lately.”
“Not really. And it’s not my day off.” Nate propped himself up against the headboard, rubbing his eyes with a sigh. “Been taking extra shifts. Had one last night, gonna have one later too.”
“Oh, okay then. So you’ve only been working yourself into an early grave. No big deal.” Milo’s arm snaked through Nate’s. Despite all his jokes about the other’s more...unhealthy habits, Milo was concerned. All the hours Nate spent either locked away in the library or the Arcanium or the practice rooms were written on his face.
“I’m fine, Milo. Really.”
“Have you eaten anything? No wait, better question: when did you last eat something?”
“Milo-”
“Promise me you’ll take a day off this weekend?” He tipped Nate’s chin to look at him. The witch sighed, but gave him a tired smile.
“Promise.”
Nate’s fingers found Milo’s, laced through them with a little flicker of magic. His boyfriend grinned and pressed a kiss to his cheek. “Good! Because I already made plans. Nothing big, don’t worry. But this is for your health, y’know. Why do you even need to spend eighty hours a week in mom’s lab?”
“So I can buy you a house.” Nate wrapped his free arm around Milo’s shoulders. He trailed his fingers down to his boyfriend’s right hand. “And a ring. A nice one.”
Milo turned and flung himself into Nate’s chest. Whatever he said was too muffled to make out. “I’m the best? Yeah, I know,” Nate chuckled, brushing his fingers through feathery locks.
Milo looked up, eyes bright. “How much time do you have til work? Do you wanna….?”
Nate glanced at the clock, then back to his boyfriend. “Hell yes.”
***
It’s the gift of a witch.
“C’mon, c’mon.”
He could still see them. The currents, the ways that they glowed and where they flowed to. But that’s something every witch could do. Child’s play, as it were.
Nate held his hands very still and concentrated. Glowing motes gathered and he felt a faint warmth brushing against his skin.
To see and touch the currents. To bend them to your will.
“Come on…!”
The magic in his hands rippled and warped. He started chanting under his breath in hopes the words would help mold the spell. A thing that shamed him to do, when a few weeks ago he’d been skilled enough to cast with gesture alone.
“Fuck!”
The implosion knocked him backward to the ground. He retched, almost nauseous with the pain. When the fit finally passed, Nate was able to stand and throw himself into the chair at his desk.
Not everyone is strong enough to use it.

Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! Do your characters have any particularly interesting fashion choices? What are they and why?👔🥻👘👗👚🛍
Thanks for the ask!
Since I love fashion, I think most of my characters wear interesting clothing choices. I'm even in the process of drawing each major nations/regions' traditional garbs.
Hence, I'll just pick an outlier.
Tumblr media
This is a doodle I made for reference.
Lyarshu had a different mage outfit* tailored for his graduation. He hoped to honor the culture of his people, the Verdants of the Emerald Kingdom, through this outfit. He argued long and hard about this with his assigned seamstress, who by academy rules had to add some required mage aesthetics (the most important of which is the hood).
On the day of the event, he ran into a situation, had to play hero, saved the day, and attended his graduation in what seemed like torn rags. Thankfully, one of the people he helped during the aforementioned situation helped him sew back his outfit together. Hence, his fit sorely stands out from most other mages... once you get used to the natural eccentricity of mages.
Art of Heartwood's Three Idiots when they were his age for reference:
Tumblr media
*Mages who graduate from Heartwood Academy get to have their first outfits as licensed magic users tailored by local seamstresses to their liking, as long as it isn't against academy guidelines. Such outfits are made from different subtypes of magiweave fiber, a type of textile that holds a stronger** form of magic to help mages with their everyday escapades, such as infinite storage space and added resistance against magic.
**In some of the popular theories of magic, everything in Orbis contains/possesses magic forces. But this is a discussion for another day.
I'm sorry that there isn't much worldbuilding here as there is story, but concept-wise I struggled so much with Lyarshu's design that I forgot to add actual lore into consideration.

Heads Up Seven Up
Tagged by @lordfenric-writes. This one is from Your Shoes, a series of short stories about the cast of Magia prior to the basement mishap.
Rules: Post seven sentences or lines from your WIP.
Mistress Jewel then ushered her into the academy dormitory, located on the east wing of the campus. Soon, Gracie found herself alone, in a room on the third floor of the building. The room was quite cramped, so she first headed for the window for some space. She discovered its intricate panels were folded like a divider, so she pushed them until the hinges snapped into place, and stood out on the now-glassy balcony. The view her room provided included a part of the school grounds stretching towards the south, its entrance, and a noisy, busy plaza filled with vendors and entertainers. How she wished for a trimmed garden, one filled with shrubs and flowers and fountains, instead! The sky was blocked by fog and mountains, and she clicked her tongue in distaste.
As always, this is a free tag!

WIP Questionnaire
For this I will answer about Arcanium series as a whole.
1.) What was the first part of your wip that you created?
The cast! I guess coming from fanfic writing, I got used to developing parts of the cast first. The contrasting personalities of each character help me create conflicts and move the plot along.
Also, Arcanium used to be an AU, but it strayed too far from canon and now it's a high fantasy concept.
2.) If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?
I have my own melody for Liberatio saved in Flat.io. I haven't gotten its tempo down, so I won't be able to preview it. However, the track Kamidori to Tomoni by Aishu/StorySoundDesign/Studio Yamaoku sounds pretty close to it.
On the other hand, since Magia started as a game (it's still in development), I have gathered a handful of tracks that I hope would help communicate its themes and world. The one track I heavily associate with it is Reunion by MoGura/UniqueGear.
3.) Who are your favorite characters you've made? Why?
A lot of them, actually! Here's the specifics.
4.) What other pieces of media do you think would share a fan base for your story?
Based on its genre, it'd probably attract a couple of guys from Frieren and DunMeshi. But I have my friends cheering for my work, which is something I already deeply appreciate.
5.) What has been your biggest struggle with your wip?
Working on the game has been quite tedious. But then again, big dreams do keep you going!
6.) Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!
I assume you speak of significant animal characters.
Magia has Charles the Cinder Rat, First of Her Name. Born to assist mages, she is smart enough to solve puzzles and discern between various objects. Liberatio on the other hand has Chester the Cinder Rat, one of Charles' many descendants, and Silver the Combat Dragon, who the group saves from an illegal breeding ring.
7.) How do your characters get around? (ex: trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.)
Transportation methods include but are not really limited to wagons, ships, wulvensteeds, equicorns, dragons, short-distance teleportation spells, and long-distance teleportation portals.
8.) What part of your wip are you working on rn?
I'm currently doing a zero draft of Magia's plot. It's wild and I'm almost to the end.
9.) What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your wip do you think will draw people in?
I've been told that the characters are unique and the worldbuilding is fire, so I'll go with that.
10.) What are your hopes for your wip?
I hope to grow as a project manager, have this story as my first complete novel, and make friends over it.
Here are the original questions if you want to do this questionnaire!
What was the first part of your wip that you created?
If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?
Who are your favorite characters you've made? Why?
What other pieces of media do you think would share a fan base for your story?
What has been your biggest struggle with your wip?
Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!
How do your characters get around? (ex: trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.)
What part of your wip are you working on rn?
What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your wip do you think will draw people in?
What are your hopes for your wip?

PRINCESS - Who is in charge, and how do they determine who is next?
WAR - When was the last war? Who started it and who won?
Sowwy for the late reply! And thank you for this very lovely ask game.
I am answering Princess for all the major locations in present-day Orbis.
PRINCESS:
In Kaleidopolis, the position of head spellcaster is voted for by a council of mage leaders chosen by local mages and their international affiliates. Kaleidopolis also has a separate mayor who is in charge of general public affairs and concerns. Unlike the head spellcaster, the mayor is appointed by their god, the Heartwood Tree, from a list of candidates submitted by the populace. Both the mayor and the head spellcaster are legally of more or less equal standing.
The Prismatic Kingdom is ruled by monarchs. The throne of the next ruler is given to a legal descendant, whether blood-related or adopted, of the ruler and their spouses. This also means that an old ruler can pass the throne to a grandchild or even a great-grandchild. A crown heir can be appointed early on, as they will be given sufficient preparations for their role later in life, but this practice is often looked down upon by nobility, as historically, crown heirs often choose to abandon their post later in life.
The Emerald Kingdom is fronted by monarchs who serve as symbolic figureheads, but is backed and dictated by the doctrines of its clergy and its alchemists. The real rulers are chosen via popularity contests veiled as democracy, then dictates what the monarchs should do next. The figureheads can get replaced like dolls, as the clergy has an arsenal of contacts and orphans to train puppets from. (The public is not supposed to know that last bit.)
The Platinum Fort is led by its General, its smartest, bravest, and mightiest warrior. Candidates to this role must willfully volunteer and be assessed through three tests of smarts, bravery, and might. The previous General's closest allies and confidantes serve as the judges for these tests.
The Iridescent Islands with its elders and the Damasqus Network with its clan dons operate similarly - seniority is authority. While only fellow elders can oust other elders, dons can be challenged by anyone with a perceived substantial amount supporters.
The Aurum Hills hold different laws, which are mostly shaped by how its inhabitants are affected by which side of the hill they are living in. Citizens hold personal rule books that they can add or remove from, depending on what the last huddle with fellow citizens had gone. Representatives from different sides of the hill speak for their fellows, but are not necessarily leaders. The real authorities in this nation is the gods and the lands.
Merchants run the Mirage Dunes, and whoever runs the most stable businesses gets to have a say on the affairs of their tribes. This does not always mean that the richest families are authority; their businesses must be active, paying workers well, and forecast as stable for at least the next decade, which are taken as clear signs of a supportive network and influence.
WAR:
I have not thought of a war between that of Luishreya's rise to power way way before any of my other Arcanium stories occur and the Emerald Kingdom's beef with the Platinum Fort in the present time, but let me answer for both of these ones!
The Endless Wars is a series of wars that occurred one after another for decades. It was spurred on by the rising tension between different nations, including Luishreya's homeland. The one who actually started it was the kingdom of the War King, her eventual husband, who was simply thirsty for drama and the weapons trade. By cleverly manipulating different sides of the war and recruiting betrayed talents such as Luishreya's group, they triumphed over the other nations. As for what caused the tension in the first place, I've yet to figure it out.
The Emerald Kingdom started the whole beef with the Platinum Fort due to differences over their stances on alchemy and magic. It's a rather petty thing, but representatives on each side kept the snowball rolling. Currently, they are at a stalemate, with the Platinum Fort at a disadvantage.

Character Interaction Tag
Tagged by @winglesswriter. Thanks for the tag!
Rules: Get the tagger's OC and the OC's description. Then, choose one of your OCs and give the description for this OC. Next, come up with a short scenario of how the two OCs would interact should they meet in a crossover universe.
Long post ahead! The TLDR is: the OCs we chose are mostly incompatible.
Their OC:
Yarren was born into a world where his people are oppressed - their way of life, religion and language were all suppressed and made illegal under foreign rule. But even though his parents were killed for keeping the Istritu traditions, Yarren stubbornly hangs onto the old customs and fights the oppression with all he has. He got his face tattoos and wears his braids proudly. Since a young age he showed signs of being touched by a god - he has the power to manipulate plants. As for his personality, there's a lot of anger in his short body and it doesn't take much for it to bubble to the surface. He's arrogant and prickly and doesn't trust easily, all to the point of self-sabotage. He cares deeply, though, about his friends and all of his oppressed nation. He is good with words and quite charming when he wants to be and people naturally follow him. Secretly he dreams about a big romantic love, but it's the kind of love that is also forbidden.
My OC: Since I'm currently writing for him, I'll let my boy Ireus onto the arena.
Born of a human healer and a revenir* researcher, Ireus is light mage who is a proud academic first and a careful healer second. He acts as an authoritative and threatening presence to avoid having people under his watch getting themselves in danger that he cannot save them from. He likes eating poultry and nerding out about magic theory. While he absolutely hates people who act dumb, cowardly, and hesitant, he will protect and take great care of people who are more sensible and efficient. He can sense the presence of magic around him, control the forces of light, and defeat opponents with his fists. His one flaw is his patience. *Orbis' own brand of vampire
How they would interact:
At first glance, Yarren might appreciate that Ireus would never bring up his strange ways... until Ireus finds something that he deems irrational about such ways. They really wouldn't get along too well, especially since both of them have quite the short fuse. Ireus also wouldn't understand how big of a deal Yarren's powers are, since in Orbis, plant manipulation or control over the forces of foliage is quite common. If Yarren tries to use charming words against Ireus, Ireus would likely find him a threat and be very wary until he is sure of Yarren's actual intentions. I won't doubt if some of their interactions lead to actual fights breaking out. But if Ireus learned that Yarren has been touched by a god and is from an oppressed people, I think he'd just slowly back away. Gods are a big deal in Orbis and Ireus' own favorite person is from an oppressed people as well. That doesn't mean Ireus' impression of Yarren would change, though.
Sorry, this felt a bit more one-sided. I didn't have much to go off of personality-wise. It's probably because of how open-minded Ireus and Kaleidopolis are towards strangers and foreigners. Why didn't I go with Ireus' favorite person instead? I'm not comfortable giving out too much information about her just yet.
Anyway, this is a free tag!

OC Questionnaire
Rules I guess: Answer the given 3 questions from the perspective of your characters.
I got these questions off @winglesswriter's post. While I'm not originally tagged, I like their prompt. I'll be answering these for princess sisters Gracie and Charity from Arcanium, as their 14 and 12-year-old selves.
1. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Gracie: Oooh, I'm ruling Prisma! Er, uh, wait! That's one year short! I'm still one year too early! Charity: In 10 years, I'll be 22 years old. I think I'll be here, at home, helping my sister establish her reign. That's what Father said I should do.
2. If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, which one?
Gracie: This is tough. Food? What food would I eat for the rest of my life? Aaaah! How scary! Just one? Are you sure I'm only supposed to pick just one?! Charity: I'd love to always eat shrimp coconut soup, but Mother thinks that's unhealthy. I think I'll ask the palace chef for his opinion first.
3. Do you have a fashion sense?
Gracie: What a strange question! But of course, I'm always well-dressed! I'm the crown princess after all, aren't I? No outfit is complete without the highest quality boots and shiny gems! Charity: I'm not sure what this means. Is this about my outfits? Sis said I should simply let my servants decide my clothes for me.
Done! Here are my questions for the people who might see this post and want to participate.
Who is the most influential person in your life?
What is one item you must have in your pocket?
How do you propose to alleviate poverty in your community?

A/N: Here's a snippet of my writing for Arcanium! This takes from an exercise for writing Gracie's character prior to her involvement with Heartwood and her future besties, which I ended up not liking much.
(LINE BREAK)
The next day, with an escort of 20 armed personnel and Adam steering her dragon, Gracie rode through the skies around the kingdom's perimeters. As she pressed her chest against his warm back and savored his velvety ombre wings, they traded secrets, but found themselves no closer to solving the mystery of the King’s announcement.
Maybe it did have something to do with their relationship with Emerald Kingdom? While the other country was not friendly with Prisma, the two kingdoms never clashed or threatened each other’s sovereignty either. In fact, Prisma assumed a more neutral position to maintain peace among its people. A rather distasteful move, Gracie’s magic tutors would tell her, for their actions merely prolonged the war. She never said anything; she found her family’s rule appropriate, anyway.
It was not trying to join the war, at least. If so, Adam would’ve known about the movement of the Prismatic army, and she herself would’ve known the movements of the army’s generals.
Nevertheless, the King’s decision was final. All she and Adam could do was try to understand it.
Kaleidopolis was a valley city run by mages. It lay deep in the Chromatic Mountains and only portals could access it. Its government valued education above all other sectors, and the bright minds it nurtured produced the Kalei Archives, a rich library of answers to all sorts of issues and troubles. The continuous research on magic and its applications provided the city a huge advantage over most other nations. Despite its technological prowess, Kaleidopolis remained a friendly country, choosing to share its knowledge and help other communities prosper.
One such beneficiary was the Kingdom of Prisma. The energy used to power the country’s transportation and other utilities was harnessed using its windmills. While it was proven that simpler, non-magical machines already did a lot of work, crucial information from Kalei research contributed to a more efficient system.
However, even if people had access to the Kalei Archives, most of them could not maximize such a precious gift. The Kalei mages preferred to write in Shruysi, an ancient language thought to be closest to the gods’. The old tongue proved to be the most efficient in ‘communicating’ with the forces of magic. However, its rigid rules not only expected the mages to somehow keep using it in some way – in this case, properly maintaining their records and documentation – but it also set a high barrier of entry for those who are yet to use it.
She would one day become one of such mages – a princess who was a mage. Able to do what other Kalei mages could, what use was that to her as an eventual ruler? She wouldn’t need magic for combat. Her army was strong enough to protect her. It wasn’t like Prismatics used magic in their day to day either.
