big huge alien sophant species

the secondchildren are a deeply enigmatic species of plasma-based energy creatures. their existence is colonial, and their bodies consist of thousands of different conciousnesses acting as a singular entity. these bodies often exist in a state of energetic flux, but by sharing strong memetic energy, each component of a secondchild can carry memories and experiences for an incredibly long time. for this reason, they're largely seen as functionally immortal. secondchildren are known for their high latent will energy, their advanced useage of will-energy technology, and their incredibly elusive and nonsensical nature. much of the will=energy technology used in my setting was developed by secondchildren.

the e-kuri are an incredibly hardy species living on a massive cold moon. the pressure on this moon is so immense that their carbon outer shell has flakings of pure diamond in it. and because of this, they are known for their incredible strength and speed in lower pressure environments. on-moon, they're grazers feeding off of small creatures which live in little holes, using their long tongues and fanlike limbs to disturb potential prey. societally, they have little interest in astrotravel and largely mind their own business - they're not very social. a long time ago, it was posed that their incredible strength could be used as a sort of biological generator if harnessed, but the morality of this idea was very questionable. their underside is soft and fluffy.

the fleu are an incredibly rare species of deep-sea creatures living under the thick ice ocean of a starless planet. their numbers are in the thousands, and they take an incredibly long time to reach maturity. very little is known about them due to this. any attempts at contact has largely been met with aggression, but its generally agreed on that fleu have complicated and intricate technology, even if the purpose and form of such technology largely remains a mystery.

the large blue form of a secret senmin is actually a sort of external flying lung, their "true body" is the colorful protusion at the top there. the lung is used to float freely through the thick atmosphere of the several large gas giants they call home. they communicate through rapid electric color changing and quivering of the various "limbs" of this body. they're known for being intelligent, curious, and very social, and they've figured out a way to store enough food and energy to traverse small sections of atmosphereless space without use of large ships.

magma lovers live in magma, as their names suggest. their bodies are protected by a thick glass layer over a metallic shell. even less is known about them due to the hostility of their living conditions to other types of life. it's known that they live in some sort of structured society, though.

oo3o and onri-semphimin are similar in that the largest political institutions of both species are ICDCI members, and therefore they're pretty common to see in multi-species living areas. o-s'es are semiaquatic, while oo3os are entirely aquatic, living near the surface. oo3o are a largely asocial species with communities largely just consisting of a few individuals, and they're talented builders. they've developed all sorts of "airwalking" suits to travel onto land and isolate themselves further. meanwhile, o-s'es are very social and live in extremely large colonies. They're adepts at terraforming.

e-bupp are metal worms that live in a sort of puddinglike-texture "oceans" on the same moon that e-kuri originate from. these strange oceans are actually the focus of much of the biodiversity on this moon, and e-bupp have taken on a sort of parental role towards the younger (in species terms) and less technologically adept e-kuri. e-bupp attempted astral travel, but the logistics of it made it more trouble than it was worth.

Anne & Cain discuss what she'd be the God of while she's high

Anne walked into Cains room, "I'm a god, Cain. " She said, flopping back on his bed.

"And what makes you say that, Mrs. Evans?" He was sitting at his desk, typing some stuff up on the computer he was given by the site. Not surprised by her sudden visit.

"I have survived so much bullshit. I can't die permanently, amnestics hardly work on me and neither do memetics or cognito hazards. If that doesn't make me an absolutely god among mortals, then I don't know what would. "

"What would you be the god of? " He asked

"God of Psychology. " She joked then hummed "... What do you think I'd be the God of? "

"Well, not fertility, that's for sure. "

"What's that supposed to mean? " Anne sat up and looked at him, had she forgotten? Yeah.

"You've gone through menopause, yes? you aren't fertile. Why would someone who can't get pregnant be the God of fertility? " He made a good point.

"Fair enough.. " Leaned against the wall that his bed was pushed up against, grabbing his pillow and hugging it "hmm,, God of fish? "

"God of fish? "

"God of fish. "

"No other types of aquatic animals, just fish? " He chuckled

Anne nodded "Just fish, maybe jellyfish- I love jellyfish, I wish they didn't sting. Dr. Briers has two moon jellies, they're so pretty- she's pretty too. "

Cain nodded in agreement

"Mhm, oh to be a jellyfish. Floating around in the ocean. No meetings, no having to worry about getting assassinated, no brain. "

"You worry about being assassinated? " He looked over at her, furrowing his brows in concern.

"... Yes? " She held out her hands, putting a few fingers down and nodded "this many times it's been attempted."

"That's quite a lot, Mrs. Evans. "

"Yeah, what were we talking about? "

"What you would be a God of. "

"Right, thanks. " She hummed again, "God of women. "

"Very original. "

"God of Clouds? "

"Wouldn't that be tied into water, God of water? "

"Hmm, clouds are a different form of it, but still technically water... " Anne sighed, laying down on her side.

"Mrs. Evans? "

"Yeah? "

"Are you high? "

"Is it that obvious? " She whined, this job was stressful, although bgetting high wasn't always the best course of action- it was the fun course of action.

" I was just guessing. " He sighed "How much did you take? "

Anne looked at the wall "What are you writing? "

"Anne, how much did you take? " Oh no, not the first name. But it did sound nice coming out of his mouth.

"Hhhnnnn.. I dunno. 25mg." Her tolerance was pretty low, around 10mg ? - she did it often enough so that it stayed around there, but she was forced to go on a brake with an upcoming sobriety test. So it went down - Ms. Princess over here isn't the brightets sometimes, but that's okay.

"25? " He didn't know much about the drug, but he knew enough to know that was too much for her. "But to awnser your question, I'm still writing the sifi-horror I told you about. "

"The one based on the sphere? " Anne stood up - everything looked a bit too wobbly for her taste. "Yeah nope-. " She sat back down

"Yes.- do I need to help you get back to your room later? " He asked

"... No..? Oo- what if I was the god of drugs. I've done a lot of them so it'd make sense. " Don't judge her, she's trying everything at least once.

"God of drugs? " He hummed, " Like Asclepius? "

"He's the god of Medicine, not drugs. I'm talking about like shrooms, cocaine, cannabis, LSD etcetera. "

"Good to know etcetera is a drug now. " He joked. "I don't believe there is a god of drugs.. "

"Oh sweet! " Anne attempted to stand up again, and Cain stood up to help her incase she couldn't.

"Do you want me to carry you incase you fall? "

"You can carry me whenever you want. " She then got picked up. "I wanted to get water, so to wherever that is. "

After a looong hiatus… We’re back with another round of CRACK SHIP LOVE CHILD!

I’ve been sitting on a few ideas for installments of this series that I never got around to making. Well, Here we go with our second ever “episode” 5 years after the first one! So lets meet the lovely couple, this time starting with the mother:

Aayla Secura The Twi’lek Jedi Knight from the Star Wars Expanded Universe’s Republic Comics, Aayla Secura caught the attention of George Lucas who decided to add her to the arena battle scene in Attack of the Clones.

Kit Fisto A Nautolan Jedi Master, he was Initially one of Lucasfilm’s designs for the new Sith Apprentice replacing Darth Maul. Kit Fisto found himself repurposed into a Jedi Knight for the arena battle where he incapacitated a Battle Droid bodied C-3PO with a force push and a smile.

The two characters were ensemble darkhorses: a canon immigrant from tie in comics and a memetic fan favorite. In retrospect, they really didn’t have much overlap beyond being fan favorites. But someone Lucasfilm took notice that they looked good together...

With a non-canon anthology comic, a ship was born. Said story was later referenced in the Jedi Comic Miniseries, along with further exploration of their relationship bringing the dynamic into the (now Legends) Canon:

As Far as I know, this ship did not make the jump over from the old EU into the Disney Canon. But it was at one point official, so this really stretches the meaning of Crack Ship, as this is a pretty explored ship. However, even in Legends, they never acted upon their feelings for one another beyond these comics. So I’d say it’s crack enough. And for our case, lets say they did act upon those feelings...

And the resulting love child is:

Dermot Power’s Fish Jedi Concept Art An aquatic near-Twi’lek alien, accounts seem to indicate this design was ditched in favor of Adding comics character Aayla Secura and retooling one of the potential Sith designs into the aquatic Jedi now known as Kit Fisto. Despite those sources unrelated to this design in origin, both characters share plenty of similarity to this concept character’s design. It wouldn’t be a stretch for this design to crop up as the love child of Aayla Secura and Kit Fisto in future Star Wars media.

Movies I watched this week / 15

This week I’ve seen mostly recent American movies:

I avoided seeing 12 years a slave when it first premiered, because I ‘knew’ its nightmare background was all too depressing.

The USA is built on 450 shameful years of racist terror and inhuman exploitation, and the film does not shy from showing a tiny sliver of it. Americans are afraid to acknowledge, even today, that their ‘Democracy’ is based on enslaving, raping and killing black people, with the same consideration they offer cows and pigs. Too Powerful.

Also in 2012, Tarantino had to make Django Unchained, his revisionist, sadist, Spaghetti Western revenge fantasy, and what a disappointing comparison it is. Tarantino had to prove his comic book masculinity version of the American Slavery, and turn the systemic evil into a romanticized personal choice. Disgusting!

I actually dislike most all of (70%) of Tarantino’s work, (with the exception of only ‘True romance’, ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Jackie Brown’) and I either couldn’t finish or didn’t bother to see the rest of his movies.

And before he directed “12 years”, Steve McQueen did Shame, a completely different story about a cold bachelor New Yorker who suffers from sexual addiction. An unusual proposition, but without a center and with characters who are not engaging.

Another Shame, Ingmar Bergman’s 1968 Skammen, with young Liv Ullmann and Max von Sydow, as their lives disintegrate during an abstract civil war.

I haven’t seen it in 40 years. (Photo above).

Three Identical Strangers, a documentary about a set of identical triplets who were given for adaption to separate families, as part of a secret, undisclosed scientific "nature versus nurture" study. When they were 19, they discovered each other, becoming a ‘human story’ sensation.

An interesting story, but told in a People Magazine / CNN style. Other reunion stories.

David Memet’s suspenseful The Edge with Anthony Hopkins as a brainy billionaire fighting for his life at the Alaskan wilderness after a plane crash.

Terrific re-watch! From the great year of film-making, 1997.

Swing Vote - Kevin Costner is a deadbeat single dad to a 12 year old girl whose vote somehow will decide the result of the 2008 Presidential election. Before he gets fired, he works at the local egg factory, so he eats mostly egg salad sandwiches. The father-daughter energy is lovely - the political stuff, less so.

Buster Keaton’s The High Sign, A drifter at an amusement park finds himself both the bodyguard and hit man of a man targeted by a criminal gang. It was the first of Keaton's independent shorts to be released - 100 years ago today, on April 12, 1921.

"Egbert Sousé", AKA WC Fields’ The Dinner sketch.

Saul Goodman’s new, violent action movie Nobody could be so much better, a ‘Straw Dogs’ for 2021, but it isn’t.

First watch: Pre-code, 1934 The Thin Man. To think that this kind of drunk leisure-class murder mystery was elegant and sophisticated at the time.

Street Fight, a 2005 Oscar-nominated documentary about Cory Booker’s 2002 failed, first campaign for mayor of Newark, NJ.

I always thought of Booker as Obama-lite.

Driven, a biographical comedy with Jason Sudeikis and Judy Greer, about the relationship between John DeLorean and the informant who trapped him. The film starts at the “Temecula Airport”, which stands for Perris Airport.

Trust, a disturbing drama about a 14 year old girl who is raped by a man she befriends on the internet.

I only watched it because it was on Roger Ebert’s list of Best films of 2011.

Le Chef, A tasteless French food comedy with Jean Reno, so full of clichés, that not a single possible cliché that could be used was sparred. 1/10.

✴️

Another First Watch: Wes Anderson’s 2004 The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou: A hollow exercise in whimsical quirkiness and self-absorbed pretension.

Also, I can’t stand Owen Wilson.

darkness, flight, and water based bunker busters!

There’s already a darkness squad in the form of TERROR, so I’ll just copy that across from the master post.

Terror Squad

A squad well known for their love of spreading fear. While generally less destructive than other squads, their domino effect of a Terror Squad strike tends to be felt far and wide by those allied to the victims of the slaughter.

CON - Reaper

Imposing male seadweller with a helm stylised after a skull under a hood. Carries a large scythe with a plasma edge.

DEX - Stalker

Cloak and Dagger favouring bright green blood. Has a powerful stealth system in his suit that lets him sneak up on prey. Usually uses power bladed weapons, but has bombs and a laser sub machine gun as a backup.

INT - Sun

A relatively young red blood. Able to spread a psionic ‘plague’ of fear amongst her enemies, causing powerful hallucinations, paranoia and general terror. Victims tend to see their allies and loved ones as enemies or monsters, as well as seeing objects of their greatest fears rising en masse against them. The effect grows stronger over time, usually resulting in the death of the victim by heart attack, suicide or being killed by allies in self defence once the mania takes hold. Memetic in nature, the ‘plague’ spreads to other people nearby, having a catastrophic effect over a long mission.

Abyss Squad

A squad that primarily handles aquatic missions, as most other squads effectiveness would be reduced underwater for whatever given reason. Not that they’re any less effective on the ground, naturally.

CON - Beach

A rather overweight sea dweller male, but with an absurd amount of muscle beneath the blubber. His power armour is fashioned after a diving suit but even more heavily armoured, and he carries a rocket powered harpoon launcher with a reeling chain device affixed to the back of his suit.

DEX - Depth Charge

This female sea dweller is a master of all manner of aquatic explosives. She carries an assortment of breaching charges and detonators for breaking into underwater vessels and dwellings, and her particular weapon of choice is a portable torpedo launcher.

INT - Angler

A master of deception and hypnosis, this sea dweller has a powerful mutation that allows him to mimic the appearance and voice of anyone he sees. His power armour is designed to allow him to slip in and out of it easily so that he can sneak around and blend in with their targets to low defences or bait them into traps. Looking into his true form’s eyes is enough to entrance anyone who doesn’t have an iron will.

The Flock

A squad well renown for their mastery of the air. They have a habit of rigging their drop pods with extra explosives and climbing out of it while it falls, using it as a tactical missile while they descend after it to clean up the mess.

CON - Meteor

As the name implies, Meteor has a habit of less flying and more flinging herself towards things at incredible speeds and with disastrous results. While her power armour is capable of extended flight, it is rigged to be able to charge itself to create short bursts of insane speed. Rather than having an actual weapon, Meteor’s suit is rigged with ports that vent the heat of her jets as she’s crashing into people.

DEX - Helix

Helix’s suit is much better designed for sustained flight, with numerous extra jets to counteract the incredible kickback from the minigun she hefts around with her as her weapon of choice. She has a set of blades built into each arm for when she’s forced into melee combat.

INT - Xygen

An exceptionally powerful psionic with literal control over air. She can create hurricanes, summon blades of wind sharp enough to actually cut, rip the oxygen from her enemies and needs no assistance from her suit to actually fly. That’s just a thing she can do.
