Is it possible to enjoy Larry as a ship (as in i think they would be hot together) without engaging in the conspiracy theory (that they are together and have been this whole time)? The fanfiction had honestly been giving me life but it's also written by larries.
I scrubbed jkr from my system. Is that what i need to do here too??
How do I draw the line?
yes, it's possible to enjoy larry the ship without engaging in the conspiracy theory. in fact, the majority of people throughout the history of the ship have done just that.
however.... harry and louis have not been in the same room for longer than the band was together, so it's a bit difficult to engage with the ship these days outside of AUs. I haven't checked in AWHILE, but I'd wager that most of the larry authors on AO3 at this time are indeed conspiracists for that reason — those living in the reality-based community aren't going to find much there to write about.
as to whether or not to cut larrie-written fic out of your reading diet, that's up to you. I personally do not read fic by people who are conspiracists, just as I don't reblog their posts, follow them, or give them likes. they view kudos, comments, likes, reblogs, follows as validation. (certainly jkr's follower number gives her validation for her destructive beliefs.) I don't give them validation. in 2017 I made a list of AO3 authors who were verifiably conspiracists. you can find it in my header on my personal blog, @yessoupy. it hasn't been updated in AWHILE. I have seen some of the authors pop up in other fandoms (two i have in mind i found scrolling through buck/eddie in 9-1-1 fandom), and I don't read their fic there either. 🤷🏼♀️
additionally, if you search my username there (soupypictures) and go to my bookmarks, I have tagged some larry fics 'safe for soupy' which means the author is verifiably not a larrie. I didn't read all those fics, just researched the authors.

Shipping vs. Tinhatting
Shipping is a normal fandom behavior, where one enjoys the idea of a pairing and writes (or draws/paints) fictive scenes about the pairing, but understands that what they’re writing is not real. (People who are Larry shippers are not on this list.)
Tinhatting is believing a fictional pairing is real, even in the face of irrefutable evidence to the contrary (including denials by the individuals in the pairings). Tinhatting is typically accompanied by abusive and harassing behaviors. If your instinct is to say “but not all larries!” you’ve missed the point. All larries are conspiracy theorists who believe that Louis is lying about every aspect of his life. (Larries, tinhatters in the Larry ship, are on this list.)

AO3 tinhat boycott list
here is a list of authors on ao3 who are also conspiracy theorists. for the uninitiated: there is a significant portion of the content-creators in the 1D fandom who believe that their ship, harry/louis (larry stylinson or larry) is real. they are called larries and should be differentiated from larry shippers (those who engage in normal fandom behavior and know their fictional ship is not real). larries are conspiracy theorists, and you will see them referred to as tinhatters. **13 feb 2018** i’ve changed the title from larrie to tinhat and i’m adding more tinhat authors as i find them in other fandoms.
want to blacklist them? here’s a tutorial on using ao3 savior. that link also contains more information about the reasons behind the list and how an author is put on the list or why they are left off. [n.b. the script is case sensitive, use case of name present on the current list.]
wondering if an author is a larrie but they aren’t on the list? send me an ask! i’ll do my best to sort it out.
methodology: i sorted 1D fics on AO3 by h/l and with most kudos first (to prioritize with the fic that would most likely be read by a new reader), english, and completed only, and clicked through. if i couldn’t prove they were larries (no other SM linked to pseud OR nothing glaringly larrie on linked SM) i’ve left them off the list. this is definitely not complete. it is a work in progress. all names are the AO3 pseud, and earlier versions of the list contained additional information about what i found to put them on the list. i have removed that information for streamlining, but if you’re curious, inbox me and i can provide it.

Can I ask a question about the ao3 boycott list is its purpose to stop larries receiving attention and praise for anything or is it there to stop tinhatting because the stories are written by tinhats who believe they're content is real? I'm considering stopping reading fics by larries but is it acceptable to read fics by ex-larries and/or those that have left the fandom?
Read whatever the fuck you want. I made the list because I didn’t want to leave comments on fics or give kudos to authors if they were conspiracy theorists. I knew there were other people who would appreciate the list because when I asked around if there was one, the people I asked said no, but others had also asked them. So I made the list. I got a bunch of shit for it from the conspiracy theorists, because they don’t understand what a fucking boycott is, and periodically the ones I haven’t blocked will get hold of it and circulate it around and I’ll have to block more of them
What should you, and anyone else do with it? I don’t care. It’s not an enforced boycott because I’m not a governmental figure (though I did recently unfollow someone because she was promoting the work of one of the tinhat authors on the list). Its purpose is merely informational. Don’t wanna support conspiracy theorists, but still want to read fic? Here’s a list of popular authors to avoid.
If you want a list of definitely safe authors, my AO3 is soupypictures and my bookmarks are public -- check the tag “safe for soupy.”

@larrie-dictionary I was active (am active) in MLB RPS and swimslash (olympic-slash was my home for awhile where I also dabbled in skaterslash). I'd read just about whatever foxxcub was into, and had a stint in bandom as a reader but when patd split i basically stopped. I was never aware of tinhatting in any of my fandoms, though I know now it was happening in bandom and there's at least one phlochte tinhat because of larrie influence. I'm f-locked, but my handle there is the same as on AO3: soupypictures.

now that i’ve blocked a shit ton of larries: my pseud on AO3 is and always has been soupypictures. i have one shitty little harry/louis fic posted as far as 1D fic goes, sorry about that. most of my fic there is MLB slash. my fics with the most hits are swimslash -- because of the olympics, and one random T-rated fic got caught up in an “omg!!!! fan fiction is so weird!!!” article on jezebel. i read the intro to it (“And, finally, a love triangle involving Ryan Lochte, Michael Phelps, and the world's new imaginary boyfriend Nathan Adrian.”) and thought “OMG I’d like to read that!!” And then realized the excerpt was intensely familiar. Because it was my fic. I was fucking disappointed, mostly because I didn’t realize how much I wanted that love triangle until I realized it didn’t exist.
i spent a year and a half researching and writing assured. in the middle of it i was at a ballgame trying to get sonny’s autograph and this random guy had a blurry photo of his kid with sonny that he wanted to get signed and he was telling me the story and when i guessed the year it happened he said i was wrong. he would not believe me when i said sonny was drafted in 2011, not 2010. but i couldn’t exactly say, “yo, i know i’m right, i’ve looked at EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HIS MINOR LEAGUE STARTS researching for a fic come ON.” saw him again a few months later when the a’s were back in town and he said i was right. bahaha. oh, and i got all the sonny autographs i wanted. oh goddamnit i was just going to type “now i’m full up!” but i’m not, i actually have another jersey to get done fml.
i have a few mpreg fics? idk why, it’s something that happens. 2 are phlochte, and i’ve recently discovered that there are PHLOCHTE TINHATTERS AUGH so hey know that my phlochte content comes (lol) free of conspiracy theory. i’d started writing a larry faux mpreg fic back before i realized how pervasive the conspiracy theories were so before that one gets published it needs a 100% overhaul. not that you WANT THAT FIC anyway. AND i realized that 2 of my fics that were written 1 year apart are basically the same thing except with different pairings and i really think i used the same prompt from a kink meme and forgot???? so no problem, know that i’m rolling my eyes too when i see them.
also the only fanfic that’s NOT in rpf isssssss poe dameron/resistance soldier LOVE. otp. no one else writes it.

He’d gotten his act together by senior year, but miserable freshman and sophomore years nearly forced him into a fifth year. Begging and pleading with his counselor got him enrolled in every night class and summer class available to graduate on time. He hadn’t walked across the stage, though — there was no one there to watch him.
When he’d gotten this job two years ago he felt like a fraud. How could he possibly be qualified to work here? But he’d made his way, found his place, and he was damn good at his job. But he thought he knew every faculty and staff member by name. When he scrolled to see what teacher the chronic skipper in his caseload had for the single course he was passing and couldn’t call to mind the face that went with the name, he was surprised.

I wish there were an easy way to track all the fics written by non-tinhatters to enjoy. In my wishful thinking, I would like to encourage some tags like 'Larry/Ziam/this is a fictitious ship' along with the fics, and bam! you have them all in a neat list (though it seems abundant 'cause it's fan-FICTION, only in this fandom it becomes autobiography, aka you commit a grave sin if you write fics AND don't believe Larry is real.)
Unfortunately, a lot of non-tinhat authors are unwillingly to be publicly anti-tinhats because they don’t want to lose readers.
Personally, I don’t give a shit. I’d rather 0 notes than any from conspiracy theorists. I have made a kind of list in my bookmarks on AO3 (soupypictures), check my ‘safe for soupy’ tag. Despite having posted ficlets here, I don’t think tumblr is a great archiving tool (it’s totally shit) so…. read over there. You’ve got that and the AO3 larrie boycott list that’s in my header.
