Rotxo x Reader
Description: Rotxo is hopelessly in love and has finally worked up the courage to tell you, unfortunately that courage left as soon as he got your attention
Warnings: lil bit of angst for Rotxo, embarrassment, that thing you do when you embarrass yourself so you’re just like imma kms but it’s Rotxo, Ao’nung deserves a warning in general, fainting, this kinda turned into Ao’nung crack at some point
Word Count: 983
Author’s Note: HIIII I LOVE THIS ASK SO MUCH AND THIS IS ALSO MY FIRST REQUEST?? MY FIRST REQUEST GETS TO BE THIS?? ITS SO MAGNIFICENT AND PERFECT THIS IS GREAT MWAH MWAH AND IM SORRY I ANSWERED THIS LATE, LIFE HAS BEEN A BITCH BUT ILL GET TO IT NOW
Second Author’s Note: the other author’s note was written like whenever I got the ask but I got it like over two months ago and I was so unmotivated and not satisfied with what I was writing so I put it on hold until I felt like I could do this ask some justice. Anon please request again, this made me so happy and I get so happy when I go back to look at the messages you’ve sent in. You’re so kind and it just makes my day and I hope this fic makes you happy
Why did life have to be so cruel? He had finally called your name and now, his mouth has stopped. Rotxo stands there, staring at you, his mouth opening and closing but his words were broken.
“I saw you sleeping- I MEAN SWIMMING And wanted to walk— I MEAN TALK to you and uhm uh. Hi. I mean. Eywa help me.” He sunk his head in embarrassment.
You stared at him, a bit confused and entertained. “Hey, its okay Rotxo. I trip on my words all the time,” you reassured him. He looked up at you for a moment, looking away quickly when he accidentally made eye contact.
“Now, was there something on your mind or you just wanted to hang out?” You questioned.
“Something pacific- SPECIFIC. Damn it. My words won’t work.” He whispered the last bit to himself, you couldn’t help the small laugh as you heard it though.
“Well then?” You asked, waiting for him to tell you what he had been meaning to. He loved when you looked at him like that, so curious. His heart beat raced, his face flushing a deep purple and damn, he knew he was going to embarrass himself if he even tried to speak again.
He took a deep breathe, trying to muster up some of his lost courage. “I wanted to tEll you-” and then he just stopped. His voice had cracked in front of you. He was done. He began to walk away and towards the water.
“Where are you going?!” You called after him.
“To drown myself!” He called back enthusiastically. You couldn’t help the little chuckle you had before you raced after him. You grabbed his arm and forced him to turn back to you.
“You can do that after you tell me what you were trying to say earlier” you say holding back an amused smile.
He closed his eyes and once again took in a deep breathe, he held it for one count. Two counts. Three. And then he released and opened his eyes. It was now or never.
“IMAYBESORTALIKEYOU” he yelled out quickly, turning and dashing off towards the maruis. Likely to find his best friend, Ao’nung.
You stood there, stunned. Your face felt hot. You couldn’t contain your smile. You decided to take a swim before you went after the sweetheart, giving him a bit of time to cool down.
As you swam around the reef, you noticed that the colors seemed more vibrant. The blues of the water seemed more blue. The green of the plants were more green. Everything seemed so much prettier.
You thought of the times you would swim with Rotxo and he would always match your pace. He never would leave you behind. It’s been long enough, and you needed to see him.
Walking over to Ao’nung’s marui, you heard the both of them. Ao’nung was holding back laughter, but failing horribly. Rotxo buried his face in his hands, his face still burning, probably because of Ao’nung laughing at him.
“WAIT SO YOU *wheeze* YOU MEAN TO TELL ME HAHA YOUR VOICE CRACKED SO YOU STARTED HAHAHA WALKING TOWARDS THE WATER AND TOLD THEM *wheeze* YOU WERE GONNA DROWN YOURSELF” Ao’nung’s voice carried.
“Are you trying to tell the whole clan?!” Rotxo groaned. He loved his best friend, he truly did, but sometimes his best friend needs to shut the fuck up.
Ao’nung took a few deep breathes to steady himself and stop the laughter. But then you walked up. He was laughing so hard tears were rolling down his face. He even started silent laughing, not having enough air to even make a noise as he fell back on his bed.
You ignored him and looked at Rotxo. “Can we please talk?” You asked. He looked at the ground as he stood, not saying a word as he followed you back to the spot he had confessed his feelings to you just an hour earlier.
The eclipse had started and it was getting dark. He tried to hide his face, but it wasn’t easy considering he was a Na’vi glowstick. It was your turn to take some deep breathes to calm your nerves.
“I know what’s coming, it’s alright” he finally said.
“What?”
“I understand, you don’t feel the same.” He said depressingly, he turned on his heel.
“Stop making assumptions without letting me speak” you called after him. You crossed your arms and furrowed your brows, trying to look angry but your mouth simply wouldn’t cooperate. You tried to hold back your smile but the corners of your lips just kept popping back up.
He turned back to you, he looked so confused. He just stared at you, waiting for you to speak again, praying in his mind to Eywa that you were saying what he thinks you were saying.
“I like you too, Rotxo.” And that was all it took as he simply collapsed on the spot. It was at this point Ao’nung showed up, finally done with his little fit. And then this happens. He’s gonna have to see his mom about his lungs at this rate.
Ao’nung has a smirk playing on his lips while he helps you carry Rotxo to his marui.
“Y’know you’re all he ever talks about. I’m glad he finally worked up his nerves. Take care of him for me” Ao’nung says. You look at him shocked.
“Wow I didn’t know you could be such a softie” you joke. He just gently smiles at you, but this smile seems much kinder than anything he had ever done. Ao’nung truly loves his best friend, and he’s trusting you to love him just as much.
“But don’t you dare tell anyone else about what I said, I have a reputation to uphold you know” he teases back.
You set down Rotxo on his bed before turning back to Ao’nung.
“My lips are sealed.”

Dad!Ao’nung x Sully!reader
IN WHICH yours and Ao’nung’s son is killed during Quaritch’s attack, but your family is here to help you pick up the pieces.
WC: 3.3k
warnings: ANGST, grief of a son and a brother, death, violence and gory injuries.
Tumblr media
2 years. The little amount of time that you had been given before Quaritch and his team came to wreak havoc amongst your family once more. It seemed like your parents killing him once had not been enough, because his appearance made him look hungry for another death. Though you were all happy now, far away from the menace of his heavy ammo and the menacing gun that was slung upon his shoulder.
The first few weeks of living within the Metkayina had been so hard for you and your family. Between Lo’ak and Kiri being treated far worse for having human features, and the hard time you and your mother were having with fitting in with their traditions. The Tsahik had not been any softer on you despite the mistreatment that your family already faced. She despised your family of ‘demons’ and probably your mother too because she was affiliated and had children with one.
Your siblings and you had found comfort within the presence of the sweet Tsireya and Rotxo. Neteyam and yourself often found yourselves laughing quietly at your obviously in-love brother. Though you couldn’t make fun of him for too long, because you too had started developing something for the local Metkayina bully.
Something about his arrogance just made him so annoying yet attractive. Maybe it was his confidence, or the way he would tease you unrelentingly. Nevertheless, you just couldn't let anyone know of your silly crush for now, because if it fell upon the ears of the future olo’eyktan, you knew that he’d never let you live it down. Weeks had passed and your interest towards the boy could only grow more and more as the days passed by.
Though now, only with the teasing remarks of your family. Neteyam was always known for the keen eye that your mother had passed down to him, and it didn’t take long for him to notice the longing stares that you would send the rude boy. Long story short, he told Lo’ak and your little brother and his humongous mouth just couldn’t keep shut. To say that your mother was disappointed in your choice of men was an understatement, but she had allowed herself to fall in love with the person that she had wanted, so why couldn’t you?
Jake was…shocked to say the least. You had never audibly expressed your interest in any boy back at home, and here you were now. Though he knew that there was nothing that he could do to stop his 18 year old daughter from pursuing her heart's desires, because he had done so with Neytiri.
Your sisters had a calmer approach about the subject, rather asking you about it during some private gossip session that you had with them.
So after many months of hidden admiration spent, you still wondered how you had managed to end up under him in the middle of the forest behind their homes. Far from reach of everyone else, in the middle of the Metkayina mating grounds. His chests heaved up and down as he regained his breath, staring down at you with his stern lustful gaze.
An accidental confession and two young adults on the run from prying eyes was all it took for the both of you to run off and bond before eywa, queues intertwined with the feeling of love running thick through both of your veins. You’d laugh at yourself months ago if you had told yourself that you even had a chance with Ao’nung, but here you were now, mated for the rest of your lives.
The walk of shame felt rewarding in some way the next day, you had proved to Ronal and Tonowari that you feared them not, even if it meant being bonded to their son. Now you were all family, if they wanted it or not. Ao’nung and you had moved into your own private marui, and you were shoved into your mother’s loving embrace one last time as you packed your things and moved into your new home. Everything was perfect at first, a feast was soon established for the news of your mateship, and soon came another for the news of your bearing.
A baby, conceived through the love that you both shared. The endless nights that you both spent hidden away from the rest of the world, tightly squeezed in each other’s embrace as you slept the night off. Many were unaccepting at first, a demon hybrid and their future olo’eyktan? How absurd. But soon everyone calmed down, and time passed faster than you would’ve liked it to.
-
Fires spread throughout the whole village, heavy flames engulfing the beautiful village in its soaring arms. When you arrived back at shore, your heart was already void of all emotions. You felt as though it was bleeding, and the death of your brother felt like the knife that poked through the midst of it. You wanted it to burn with anger towards the sky people for taking your younger brother’s life, but you just couldn’t feel anything.
The brother that you had watched being birthed, cleaned and placed wailing into your young arms had been violently taken before you. It was unfair, but he was in a better place now, away from the cruelty of this world. You couldn’t imagine how your parents felt, losing their first son before their very own eyes. How guilty your little brother must've felt for everything. Though you forced your sorrows away because you had a family of your own to attend to.
Your son was still with his caretaker, and your mate probably had wounds that needed tending. Suddenly, the acrid scent of burning hit your nostrils, making you scrunch your nose in disgust. The fumes entered through your lungs like the much wanted air, and exited like the carbon that you would need to exhale.
Your yellow eyes shone a warm amber colour as your eyes were strained amongst the fiery scene before you. The flames engulfed the stretching material of the maruis, spreading at an undying pace. You were frozen in your spot as you watched the fire turn your homes into remainders of what once was. Your mind raced as you imagined the worst of all scenarios.
You flinched upon contact, elbowing hardly whoever had just grabbed you by the elbows. You turned around to meet their eyes, distress swirling in your very own. Ao’nung nearly fell back at your unwanted assault, huffing as you elbow left quite the fuzzy feeling in his stomach. Not the good kind of feeling. He looked at you before reaching for you once more, though you were unresponsive to his touch.
Once the smell of burning reached his nose, his attention was completely retracted from your frozen form. He suddenly urged forwards, grabbing your hand harshly into his as he ran towards the maruis. He ran faster than he had ever done, because there was a nagging feeling of fear lodged deep inside his heart.
You could feel your heart physically stop as you arrived in front of your shared marui, the stretchy material of your home now falling apart under effect of the burning. What scared you the most was the silence. As much as it pains you to say, you would’ve rather heard the painful yells of your baby than the wavering silence.
Without hesitation, Ao’nung entered the marui first. He had little to no reaction as a piece of burning material from the roof fell ungracefully over his arm, leaving a small and ugly mark behind. Him halting in his steps was enough to bring you back to life and rushing to the scene besides him.
Though the sight before you was what no mother would ever wish to see. The woman that was once protecting your son now laid lifeless besides the weaved crib that was made from dried sea plants. The smell of death was atrocious, and you had immediately known that she had not died due to the unfortunate fires. She had been murdered by those sky demons.
You had no care nor time to turn her around to investigate her cause of death. Though you were happy that you didn’t see the violent wound that ran down her back, a long cut that passed from the top to the bottom of her spine. Her blood seeped to the floor and tainted the material, and you could only wish then that it wasn’t Aytan’s, your son.
She was bare and open from the back for anyone to see if they dared to flip her around. You were glad that you didn’t need to, because the sight of her guts spilling all over your feet would’ve surely made you regurgitate your meal all over her mutilated body.
Instead your eyes panned for painfully long on your son that laid still in his crib. Void of any movement or life, you felt as though now you would puke.
His skin was cursed with burn marks that overtook nearly half of his body. He looked so miserable and even if he was still alive at the moment, you would wonder if saving him would do him any good. The once soft baby skin now looked roughy and flaky.
He was still so small that he could barely fit into the two palms of his father’s hands, but he was big enough to fit perfectly in your smaller ones.
Perfectly safe and healthy in his mothers embrace is where he should’ve been right now, not like this.
You looked over to Ao’nung for some unreasoned confirmation that your son was truly dead, but he wasn’t even looking at you. Instead, his lifeless eyes hovered over the charred child that laid innocently in his crib. He couldn’t even make a move to grab the baby, because he was frozen in anguish.
You couldn’t even remember when you had started crying, or when your cries had turned into desperate sobs and prayers towards Eywa. You couldn’t even remember when Ao’nung’s family had found the both of you safe and sound into the marui that once called a home, now in shambles beneath your feet. All you remembered was grasping your son with all force that you had left and praying to the Great-Mother down on your knees, and the painful tears that rolled down your husband’s cheeks.
Though there weren’t more than 3 tears that he had shed, it was 3 too much. He wouldn’t have cried if those damned demons didn’t follow your family here, but yet there he was. He too couldn’t even remember when his mother had embraced him, but she had done so.
There were so many things that the both of you had regretted not doing on that night. Like staying back to protect your son by yourselves. You both resented yourselves for the fact that the last time the both of you would ever hold him this way would be at his funeral, followed by your brother’s.
-
Everything was quiet since that night, at least for you. It was too much loss for your fragile heart to comprehend all at once. Was your brother’s death not enough, have they had to take your innocent son’s life as well. Your poor son that had just been presented to the clan
You were scared. Scared of so many things that you could not control. You feared what Ao’nung thought of you, did he hate you for not being there with you son? Maybe if you were, you could’ve protected him unlike the incompetent babysitter that you had left him with. No, you shook your head from those nasty thoughts. It was wrong of you to think ill of that woman, she had been present with your son until her unfortunate death.
Your fears turned into trepidation as your husband made his way towards you, a plate of fish in his wobbly hands.
Ao’nung was so angry at many things. He was angry at himself for not being there with his son. He felt mad at the poor woman for not having the ability to protect his innocent son. Though most of all, he felt vexed at you for freezing up on that day. He told himself that perhaps if you had not taken so much time to snap back to your senses, your son would somehow still be here.
He knew that it was wrong of him to think like this, he knew that even if you had acted faster, his son would still be laying unresponsive at his return. He knew that feeling angry at his innocent wife was wrong, that none of this had to do with you being at fault. He hates himself for having these unwanted feelings and thoughts, and at times Ao’nung truly wishes that he could silence his subconscious.
He hated himself for internally blaming you even after watching you drown in remorse. Even after watching you sob over your dead son’s frail body. And even though it had been hours since the funeral of your brother and son, your tears still ran freely on your delicate cheeks.
They stained your dark skin and they strained your eyes that could do nothing to stop the flow. Ao’nung felt his guilt triple in size as he sat next to you, your body instinctively shaking as he engulfed you in his warm embrace. For he had always been your pillar of reconfort and the person that you allowed yourself to feel vulnerable within.
He hushed you gently as you sobbed into his arms, his heart shattering once more as you cried to him. You were unsoothable but he hadn’t complained once, instead he gave you the comfort that you seeked so much. You felt guilty too, because you were not the only person going through grief. Who would be there to comfort Ao’nung when you were crying in his embrace?
Though when you made your worries audible, he was quick to shut them down. He wanted to be strong for you, for his family and mostly for himself. He told you not to worry, that he was okay as long as you were and soon your insecurities of him hating you vanished through the soft breeze. Ao’nung didn’t hesitate to remind you of how strong your love was and that you’d both get through it.
You both slept with heavy hearts at night, unable to close your aching eyelids until they fell on their own with exhaustion. His arms never left your form and you slept with your head on his chest, finding comfort in the sound of his beating heart.
-
You felt jealous at first, heart black and full of envy as you watched young mothers with their children. Hell, even the older mothers made your heart clench with resentment. And though you knew it was selfish of you to despise mothers for simply existing, there was little that you could do to make the feeling go away.
You couldn’t face the sight of the young children that trudged behind their mothers and soon it began affecting your Tsahik performances. How could you heal children and mothers and assist labourers when you couldn’t even stand the sight of them anymore.
It was unfair, so unfair for everyone but you knew that it was the way that life went. You knew that you couldn’t keep on closing yourself off like this, that you had to be accepting of what had happened and face reality.
So accepting was what you had done. Slowly by slowly, you have started rebuilding your life with the help of people around you. Your mother was the most understanding person, because she had lost so much already. She had lost her son just as you had, but she had never once reprimanded you for grieving. She had never forced you to speak up to her, she had never resented you for feeling the way you did.
You had learnt that it was not the end of the world, and that one day you’d be better, you’d all be better. Neteyam and Aytan’s death were not in vain, for the Great-Mother always had a plan for everyone. If it was her will, then so be it, there was nothing that you could do to undo what was done anyways.
Tuk had been the sweetest girl during that moment, and it never failed to bring tears in your eyes at how understanding she was. She was so young and you were sad that a part of her youth was taken away from her because of this ongoing war.
You could never thank your brother and father enough for being there for you despite the guilt that weighed them down, pushing so hard that they could only bear to stand on their knees.
Though solace could only work in both ways, and you were just as there for them as they were there for you. Aytan was just as much their family member as Neteyam was, and they were allowed to grieve the loss of your son as well. It took time for you all to find peace within this feeling of forfeiture, but you all knew that one day, things would be okay.
-
You watched as Ao’nung made his way towards his people, a prideful smile adorning his face as his gaze turned to you. His eyes were full of adoration as he stared at you, then to the little bundle of joy and baby fat that was lying comfortably in his arms.
He stood before his people clad in his traditional clothes that were used during feasts and announcements of this type.
The child in his arms stirred awake at the disturbance, whining slightly for her mother. The sound reached your ears and for a second you worried for your daughter, but you knew that nothing bad could happen to her as long as she was in her father’s arms.
The child's stomachs growled loudly for a second and you had to bring your hand in front of your mouth to stifle your laughter. She had just been fed a few minutes before this and yet her hunger caught up to her once more. A trait that she had acquired from his father, you had to cook 3 times your own fish portion to properly feed his warrior’s stomach.
Ura was a child that would soon grow to walk on clumsy legs, a child that was yours. Though a part of yourself was gone forever, tearing a piece of your heart along with it. You knew that the pain of losing your first child would never really go away, but you'd always have your family to help you get through it. You had a wonderful mate, that you relied your entire life within his hands, and a family that knows the ways past your heart.
You watched as Ao’nung raised your 3 weeks old daughter into the air, her chubby little arms raising in amusement. The sound of her name pierced through your ears and soon the chants began to fill your heart with joy and pride. You couldn’t help the warm smile that overtook your features as you watched your daughter being presented to the entire clan, your family close behind you.
Your mother held a hand over her chest, where her heart was. Her smile mirrored yours and the pride on her face could compete versus the one that she felt when you were the one being shown to her clan. Your father and siblings were close to her. Lo’ak now shone with new tribal tattoos, ones similar to yours as they dipped from his chin and all the way down his leg.
His mateship with Tsireya was soon made public, and you felt a pang in your heart when you knew that you couldn’t tease him about it with Neteyam anymore. Though you swallowed your sorrows, feeling happy for your baby brother. Your sister in law stood besides your brother, her eyes glued to her newborn niece. A child that she knew that she just absolutely would spoil when she would learn to stand on her own feet.
Perhaps things would get hard at times, and the reminiscences of your son would be permanent, but you had a loving family that would always help you fill the void.

summary: you go after ao'nung when your brothers are fighting with his friends after kiri. turns out you don't back down and ao'nung feels guilty for hurting you

──── ⑅*❀*⑅ ────
“Leave us alone!” A desperate shout racking from Kiri’s chest as she watched Lo’ak retaliate against the four boys ganging up against him.
Soon Neteyam had warded them off, using his big brother privilege to save the day once again. Whispers of freak rung through the air as you and your siblings tried to walk away from Ao’nung and his friends.
“Lo’ak no-” pleading with him to stay away from the menacing smiles Ao’nung gave the skinny boy approaching him.
“I got this…”
He did not have it. Quite frankly, he was being utterly destroyed, dragged across the itchy sand and wacked with the muscley tails.
“Come on Neteyam… we need to help him.”
“That’s a stupid idea. You guys are getting in so much trouble” Kiri chimed in before Neteyam shook his head before jumping onto a short haired boy. You followed suit taking place upon Ao’nung’s back.
“Get off my brother!” You screamed in his ear as he pulled Lo’ak’s tail. He moved his back harshly, he was shocked that you were even on him to begin with.
“Get off me you freak!” He tried to pry your nimble fingers of his shoulders, but you dug them into his skin scratching his pectorals, drawing light volumes of crimson. “Ow!” He bit your hand making you yelp falling down back onto the sand. The impact winding you slightly made you cough before kicking the back of Ao’nung’s knees making him fall to ground.
“Guys this is stupid!” Kiri groaned watching the quite pathetic display of a fight occur in front of her.
“Stop kicking me!” Ao’nung grumbled as his knees crashed into the sand. You tried to crawl away to get up to catch a little breath. “No you don’t” He said with evil lacing his tone.
Wrapping both hands around your ankle he dragged you back as you screamed. “That hurts you Skxwang! Get off me your weird hands off me!” You shrieked kicking back into him knocking him down again, as you topple onto of him your heads bashing together.
“You have the weird hands dumbass!” He retorted as you hissed in his face showing off your sharp fangs that you were sure you would rip into him at any moment if he continued to piss you off.
Ao’nung hissed back as he throwed you off his lap leaving you to faceplant in the sand, a hidden shell leaving a large cut right next to the corner of your mouth. Ao’nung laughed at your stature, standing over a small figure laying in the sand.
“Aw little forest girl sad in the sand.” His voice was mocking as he tilted his head waiting for you to talk back to him.
You refused to be defeated by him not Ao’nung, so you turned to be face up your face covered in blood the sand sticking to your face. Ao’nung’s face dropped at the sight of you a pang of guilt in his heart. “Oh, fuck Y/N-”
He was cut off by a kick straight in between his legs making the breath in his lungs escape harshly. You hissed in his face as you got up from the sand. “Don’t mess with my family again or I’ll be making sure you never have a family.”
You looked the worst out of your siblings after the fight. A couple bruises and scratches were laid onto Neteyam and Lo’ak but your face was stained red, multiple stitches in your cheek and dark blue bruises littered the limbs of your body.
You had been told to stay in the marui by your father, disappointed in your actions but getting angrier at your brothers for letting you getting so battered up.
Eclipse was close to occurring as the light filtering in slowly faded. You heard heavy footsteps outside the fabric flap that acted as a door. “Y/N?” Ao’nung’s voice travelled to your ears making them perk up.
“What.”
He winced at your tone before using opening the curtain like door. “I’m here to apologise.”
“Apologise to Kiri, she was the one you harassed.”
“Yeah, but I’m the one that made you bleed.”
“Don’t feel flattered it was a shell.” You spat at him turning away from him.
“Y/N, I am sorry. But to be fair you hit me back pretty hard.”
“I know I did, my hands are sore.”
Ao’nung walked in front of you to look at your face. The panging of guilt grew stronger seeing the results of his actions in the form of injuries on your gentle face.
“I’m not going to forgive you, because you didn’t do any of this. You’re a small weak annoying stupid swimmer boy.” You poked his bruise making him swat your hand away.
“Fine, but you have to let me feel bad.” Ao’nung smiled at you.
“I hope you feel terrible.” You joked poking his bruise again. Ao’nung held your hand to stop you and looked into your glossy eyes. You must’ve cried from the pain he thought.
“I do Y/N. I really do.” Sincerity wasn’t something you expected to come out of his mouth so when it did you were baffled. Baffled enough to finally meet his longing eye contact.
“Well…good.” Your voice was small, Ao’nung’s change in nature making you feel slightly intimidated.
“Is there anything that will make you feel better?”
“I’d like to punch you again.” Ao’nung shook his head smirking. He held onto both of your hands that were littered in tiny cuts to match his.
“No more punching from now on. Promise?”
“That’s hard, you’re really punchable.” He flicked your forehead making you hiss. “Fuck okay, no more punches. You’re so annoying.”
“Well, I’ll be extra annoying just for you.”
“Fuck off.”

When you had first arrived at Awa'atlu, Ao’nung had pegged you as the silent, strong-willed eldest daughter of the Sully family. During training you only ever kept to yourself, practicing on your own as soon as you mastered whatever technique they were teaching you that day. You weren’t rude, just very stand-offish.
So stand-offish to the point where not even his insults or antics could get a reaction out of you. It drove him mad, really. Your other siblings, save for probably Neteyam, had given him the reaction that he had expected, wanted even. He thrived on attention, be it bad or good – it’s what made him feel confident.
So when you arrived here, paying him no mind, his brain had gone haywire. He tried doing everything he could – jokes, pranks, and hell, even compliments for minor achievements. Those didn’t work, and he was just about to give up on garnering anything out of you until today happened. He hadn’t seen it coming.
Tumblr media
He had spotted you and Kiri by the shore, sitting together as you admired the sand. Ao’nung was aware that this environment was new to you, yet he still found it strange how you always managed to be so entranced by every single thing. He murmured something to his friends, and they snickered at his words.
You turned then, your bright yellow eyes looking at all of them with disinterest. He flashed you a smile and again you did nothing, not even an eye roll. He felt it falter, though he kept it up as soon as your sister lifted herself out of the water.
“Huh? What’d you say?” She asked, her tone so welcomingly friendly.
“Are you some kind of… freak?” He teased, his hands coming up to grab her arm.
“No,” She answered flatly, trying to pull herself out of his grasp.
He waved it around then, as if it were some toy. His friends all laughed at your sister’s hand, treating her like some kind of deformity. You quickly pulled her out of their circle, your face slowly forming a scowl. His eyes widened slightly as he took note of your reaction – success? Not quite, but nearly. He continued on with his antics, hoping that today would finally be the day he got something out of you.
You didn’t understand why Ao’nung was so fixated on treating you and your family like shit. He was a menace, and you honestly couldn’t believe you’d made it this far without retaliating against him. You wanted to yell at them to stop, but you knew that you would only be provoking them.
“Are you sure? I mean, you’re not even real na’vi.” Ao’nung continued, his hand now coming up to pull on your tail.
You yelped, instantly turning to face him. If looks could kill, he would’ve been dead the moment you laid eyes on him. You hated it when strangers touched you without warning, let alone people you hated. Eywa, you wanted nothing more than to smack the entitlement out of this boy. But still you remained silent, opting to just walk away from the situation.
You heard your brothers then, suddenly joining the crowd. Lo’ak guided the both of you further away while Neteyam stopped whatever else was about to fly out of Ao’nung’s mouth. Your scowl remained though, and you kept your death stare focused on him and his circle of idiots.
“And from now on,” Neteyam concluded, his expression just as pissed as yours, if not, even more. “I need you to respect my sisters.”
He made eye-contact with you briefly, and something about the look in his eyes told you that he had no intention of keeping his word. You scowled even deeper.
One of his friends actually had the gall to hiss at your brother, though Ao’nung had made the smart choice of holding him off. Neteyam made his way back to you now, gesturing for you guys to head back to the village. And you were going to– really, you were, but Ao’nung just couldn’t keep his damn mouth shut.
“Look at them, they’re all freaks. Especially quiet girl,” He said, his tone hushed but loud enough for you to still hear. “She’s already a four-fingered freak, what more if she can’t even handle a little tug.”
He had his back turned to you as you stomped angrily towards him, your fist already clenched at your side. His friends had no time to warn him as you angrily jerked his shoulder, making him face you.
“[Y/N] leave it be!” Kiri begged, but it was already too late.
You decked him, hard. He stumbled as he fell, landing straight into the shallow water. He blinked slowly as he regained whatever balance he had left, his hand coming up to caress his cheek. Everyone looked at you in shock. In your entire stay with the Metkayina clan, never did you act out this rashly before. In fact, you never acted out at all.
“Four-fingered freak, you say?” Your tone was taunting him, your tail swinging rapidly as you tried your best to keep yourself at bay. “You mean the freak who just put you on your ass?”
His friends hissed at you, already lunging towards your direction for the insult. They didn’t make it two steps in as your brothers had already stepped in for you, swinging hits left and right. You were pushed out of the way, and you staggered backwards until you were next to Kiri again.
She gave you a look, and though you were older than her it felt like you were the younger one moments away before getting a scolding. In the end you had to pry your brothers away, eventually meeting up with your father by one of the pathways. All of you, except for Kiri, kept your heads bowed as you listened to your father’s words of displeasure.
To say he looked disappointed would be an understatement. He was pissed, yes, but more importantly he was embarrassed. He had asked of you guys one thing, and you had tried so hard to live up to your promise of respect. But today was your last straw.
You could tell your father was torn between having to scold you or let you go with just a warning. He knew now of Ao’nung’s torment, yet he didn’t want to jeapordize the safety the village provided for your family.
Wanting to fix this mess immediately, he walked the three of you to the chief’s marui. You sighed and closed your eyes as you walked, mad at yourself for even escalating this stupid situation in the first place. You had everything under control, but all it took was one tail tug and a few harsh words to have your composure come crashing down.
Tumblr media
Ao’nung leaned on the side of his marui now, watching as you and your brothers apologized for your actions. He held a cloth with medicinal paste against his cheek, his cuts stinging as he continued to dab it on. His mother and father stood beside him, their presence the only thing keeping him from mumbling any more digs at you.
You were the last to speak, and he could tell that you didn’t want to do this. You took a few moments before you finally looked up at him, your eyes filled with such resentment. The hand you had used to give him the bruising wound below his eye was still tightly fisted, your knuckles still red from the amount of force you had used in one blow.
“I am sorry,” You started, so much distaste in your words. “So sorry that I hit you. And I am even more sorry that I put you on your ass.”
Lo’ak snorted quietly, trying to keep quiet so as to not piss your dad off even more. You felt your father nudge your shoulder, and you redid your apology, this time with a little less sarcasm and annoyance.
Ao’nung’s parents sighed heavily as they approved of your words, followed by his father demanding that he apologize as well for his insults. He had tried to protest, but one look from Tonowari was enough to have him muttering a half-assed apology.
You didn’t care, it wasn’t sincere anyway. And even if it were, you had no intention of accepting it. Once all was said and done, you were the first one to go. You walked away, your expression back to its nonchalant one. You held your head up high, no longer hanging it in embarrassment.
Ao’nung had remained in his place, his mind still processing what had happened today. He was successful in his mission, but could it really be a success if he was the one injured? Could it really be a success if your feelings toward him were only momentarily, your stoic persona coming back almost instantly?
Needless to say though, the reaction he got out of you was unexpected. He knew you were tough, your father was Toruk Makto for crying out loud. But he wasn’t ready for your physical retaliation. Even at the beach, he only stared at you as his friends tried to defend him.
He winced again as he remembered the pain on his cheek, the bruised spot feeling incredibly sore. He was thankful that you didn’t aim for his jaw, since that truly would have shut him up for good. He brought his hand up, slightly tapping the tender area. Who would’ve known that a quiet little thing like you had so much power? Not him, clearly.
He continued to stand there, still examining all his injuries. His sister came up to him then, just coming back from wherever she had been. She looked at him, her eyes darting from bruise to bruise. What happened? her gaze said, though he had a feeling she already had an idea of the events that transpired today.
He only brushed her off, turning to walk back inside the pod. She followed after him, persistent in getting answers out of her brother. Tsireya sat in front of him, not leaving her place until he spoke. He gave her a look, but she gave him a look as well in return.
He groaned under his breath and rolled his eyes before he finally told her everything; the teasing, the taunts, the fight, your punch. She put a hand up to her mouth, much like how Lo’ak tried to compress his laughter a while ago. How fitting.
“Are you laughing?” He said, slightly offended that his own sister found his failures funny.
She pressed her lips into a tight line, shaking her head instantly, though he could see her fighting a grin. She put a hand up to his shoulder, patting him lightly as she got up, taking an empty basket with her.
“Oh big brother, just what have you gotten yourself into?” She said, the suppressed laugh from earlier sprinkled in her words. “If [Y/N] didn’t already despise you before, she definitely does now.”
“Why should I care?” He said as he stood, facing his sister with his arms crossed.
“Why should you care?” She turned and parroted his words, eyes wide at how infuriatingly dense Ao’nung was. “Need I remind you that she is the daughter of Toruk Makto, one of the greatest war leaders of our time.”
“She was on the path to becoming Olo’eykte of the Omatikaya,” He was about to interrupt her until she put her hand up, stopping him from saying anything before she finished. “It is not wise to have her as an enemy.”
“So, what, are you saying I should apologize?” He said. “I already did.”
She put a hand on her hip, clearly starting to get frustrated with her older brother. “No, you didn’t. And yes, I am telling you to go apologize to her – truthfully and sincerely this time.”
He wanted to protest against her, but she quickly tossed the basket she was holding to him. “Go now. She will be by the docks gathering materials for her family’s feast tonight.”
“But-” He tried, but Tsireya had already made up her mind in making him go in her place.
“How do you even know where she is?” He asked, his face scrunched up as he reluctantly made his way out of the marui.
“Because unlike you, I don’t treat her like an outcast. And besides, she likes me.” She said, her shoulders shrugging up at the last phrase. She smacked him on the back of his head before he was fully out of the pod, reiterating her words as he continued on his way.
Tumblr media
He found you then, folding dried leaves into your basket. You were right where Tsireya had said you would be, sitting quietly like always. You looked at peace in your solace, your body free of any tension. Your hair was up haphazardly, free from your usual taut braids. The evening breeze had finally come, the sky going from bright blue to muted orange.
He coughed as he made his way towards you, breaking the relaxing solitude you were relishing in. You looked up, still continuing on with whatever you were doing. Your loathing stare was enough to make him fidget in his place before he finally decided to speak up.
“I, uh,” He stuttered. Actually stuttered. He cursed himself mentally before continuing. “I just wanted to say that I am sorry. Again.”
You blinked away boredly, only humming and nodding your head in response. You quickly took your basket with you as you got up, already making your way back to your pod. You didn’t want to be alone with the reef boy any longer, Eywa only knows what you’d do if he dared to provoke you once more.
“[Y/N] wait-” He said, clumsily turning as he grabbed your arm.
You hissed at him, his grip on your arm falling as soon as he saw your reaction. Right, you did not like being touched without warning. He put his arms up, trying to show that he meant no harm.
“Are you not satisfied yet, hm? Does your ego still need to be fed?” You said, eyebrows furrowing as you continued to berate him. “You won! All you wanted was a reaction, right? Well you got it!”
“No!” He argued back, annoyance starting to creep up on him. This was pointless, of course you wouldn’t be willing to accept his apology, let alone be in his presence for more than five minutes. “I am trying to apologize, please just listen-”
“Kalweyaveng,” You muttered under your breath, hand coming up to hold your forehead as you tried to calm your nerves. You had already caused one scene today, you weren’t about to start another. You took a few breaths before you finally faced him again, trying to remain nonchalant as you, aversely, heard him out.
He tried to maintain eye-contact with you, but your stare was just so deep. It felt like you were trying to burn holes into his head the longer he stared at you. You tilted your head to the side, eyebrow raised as you were clearly getting impatient in the ever growing silence.
“Let’s call a truce.” He finally breathed out, his arm already outstretched in your direction. “New beginnings.”
You looked up at him, then down to his arm, then up back to him again. You squinted, unsure if he would be able to stick to his word. Not that it mattered, you were more than capable of handling any situation if he decided to break his vow. But still, a truce was an important promise, and it needed to be held truthfully all throughout.
It was painfully awkward now, his smug demeanor vanishing the longer he stayed quiet. He cursed his sister for setting him up to this, and he cursed himself even more for agreeing. He did not have to do this, he was the chief’s son – next in line for Olo’eyktan. But, regrettably, he knew Tsireya’s words were right. You were a mighty hunter, with a legacy of powerful warriors before you. It really wouldn’t be wise to have you against him.
“Please,” He said, breaking the silence. “I swear to Eywa that I will not break this vow.”
Your ears perked up at this – swearing on the Great Mother meant that someone was serious. You scoffed, huh, he actually meant it. You took his hand then, wrapping your fingers around his forearm as you shook in agreement. Though his hands were rough, they were gentle on you as he took note of your uncomfortableness with strangers.
You never liked the feeling of touch from people you didn’t know, and you still don’t, but Ao’nung’s warmth didn’t feel as bad now than compared to before.
“Truce.” You said, slowly removing your arm away from him.
He grinned. You frowned. He stopped grinning.
He walked with you now, keeping up with your pace. “So, what now, tree girl?” He teased.
You gave him a look as if to say ‘really?’, and he shrugged his shoulders. “I mean, we are friends now, right? I can call you that?”
You stopped, turning to the side to face him. You threw him your heavy basket unexpectedly, and he stumbled back as he tried to catch it without spilling any of the contents.
“Oh yeah, we are friends now, fish lips.” You said, tone laced in sarcasm. “And since we’re friends, you can carry that for me, right?”
You continued on your way then, not waiting for his reply. He watched you for a bit as you walked ahead, and he laughed slightly.
May Eywa bless him with the strength to earn your trust.

Chapter Eleven: The Dangers of the Sea
________________________________
Tumblr media
~Y/N’s POV~
Looking at the darkness around me I realize that I'm once again, having a vision. But it felt different this time. Instead of seeing a light which I usually would have to walk towards, there was no light. I felt like I was under water as I look around me.
Feeling numb all over, the darkness was everlasting. I felt as though the world was closing in on me. I started to panic. I've never had a vision where I was this blind.
Suddenly I feel water fill my lungs as the scenery changes around me. I quickly hold my breath seeing the sea form around me as I realize I'm in the deep into the ocean. Not recognizing the reef around me I look around to what was being shown to me.
'Why am I here? What did Ewya want me to see?'
I had trouble holding in my breathe since I swallowed a good amount of water already. Then I see it, a figure not to far away from me swimming frantically into the coral reef. I couldn't make out who it was, but they looked to be in distress.
They looked so familiar to me. Who was he? Just as I'm about to swim to him, I see it before it crashes into the same coral trying to reach the Na'vi.
It was a Akula, a predatory creature of the sea that was very dangerous, almost the same size of a fully grown Tulkun.
It rammed its head trying to catch the Na'vi. My body freezes up realizing the dire situation the boy was in. He swims further away, making me worry. I try swimming to him, try to help him out but the Akula turns to me. I knew it couldn't sense me, it was a vision right?
But the way it looked at me, with such menacing eyes and jaws wide open I felt fear radiate from me as I let out a scream. Feeling water fill my lungs I realize that I'm drowning.
Drowning deeper into the sea.
~~~~~~~
~Third Person POV~
"Y/N?? Y/N??" Ronal says aloud, concerned, snapping her fingers in front of Y/N as she gazed off into the distance, remembering the vision she had seen earlier. Upon her mother trying to get her attention she shakes her head, taking in a deep breath.
"S-sorry mother" She says barley above a whisper as Ronal places the ointment away, which she had already applied onto the girls chin. She sat, her legs curled up against her, her injures long forgotten as she was lost in her own world.
Ao'nung stood not to far away, his head down as Tonowari continues on with his scolding. Ao'nung snuck a few glances towards Y/N who was still zoned out, trying to focus on what was happening.
"You bring shame to this family! To this clan! Y/N got hurt because of your foolishness son" Tonowari's voice thunders throughout the Marui. Ever since they came back into the hut Ronal was first to act, taking her daughter from her sons arms.
Setting her down and tending to her minor wounds and her chin. Ao'nung was frozen at the entrance as he quietly explained what had happened. Leaving out some details regarding the fight to spare him further yelling.
Tonowari sighs out turning towards his daughter. Y/N looks up at him before slowly standing up, Ronal helps her daughter to her feet , her eyes glancing at her son in disappointment.
"Sorry father, I should have deescalated the situation. Its not all Ao'nung's fault" she whispers making Ao'nung look away, guilt eating away in his stomach. Tonowari shakes his head at his daughters words.
"You are not responsible for his actions. You shouldn't have intervened when you knew you couldn't stop them" he states making Y/N nod. She thinks back to what she could have done differently. Realizing her fault she felt her mouth go dry. She should have informed someone immediately not stay around trying to fight a fight she knew she couldn't win.
"I'll go formally apologize to Jake Sully. You stay put Y/N. Get some rest." Tonowari says, his shoulder pushes past Ao'nung as he leaves the Marui. Ronal squeezes her daughters shoulder before following Tonowari out. Y/N and Ao'nung are left alone in the hut. An awkward silence taking over.
Y/N decided to take a few steps towards Ao'nung who is yet to move from his spot. He was a dumbass but he was her dumbass. Her brother she had to look out for.
"Are....you ok?" she whispers once she is close enough. Sure she felt unfiltered anger towards her brother, but upon further inspection of his wounds, she felt sympathy and hurt. He just shrugs avoiding eye contact.
"Come, I'll make you an mixture to help with the cuts" she adds trying to grab his hand, he quickly takes a step back hissing.
He moves away from her ,finally locking eyes. It was a mix between guilt, hurt and anger. "Why did you defend them? You got yourself hurt because you couldn't leave things alone! This is your fault!" he hisses making Y/N raise an unimpressed eyebrow.
"My fault? My fault for trying to ensure no harm would come to anyone? My fault trying to stop the conflict that got ALL of us in trouble?!" she growls unable to take her brothers tone any longer.
"I told you stay away from them! Because of them you had another vision-" Ao'nung hears his voice crack but chooses to ignore it "-you had another vision, and they were there! They could be the cause. Y/N....You....You stopped breathing. You turned purple from lack of oxygen! You almost died!" Ao'nung is practically screaming.
Y/N gasps at his outburst, her eyes locked on the single tear the cascaded down his bruised eye. He is quick to wipe it away.
Realizing that her brothers fear was expressed out in anger, she feels her eyes soften. Again she attempts to reach out to him but he shrugs it off.
"Ao'nung, I'm So-"
"Leave it" he growls.
He begins to leave the hut, not sparing her another glance.
Y/n tries to call for him but he's already gone. Feeling tears of her own slide down her cheeks she turns around, heading for the mat where she was sitting on earlier. She sniffles as feelings overwhelm her, her tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.
She manages to wipe a few tears before her ears pick up the sound of rustling from the entrance. She quickly whips around, feeling hopeful.
"Ao'nung, I-" she stops seeing Neteyam, he walks into the Marui, his eyes full of concern seeing Y/N in tears.
In three long strides he is in front of her, his hands reach up, cupping her face. The heat radiating from her skin is enough for him to let out the breath he was holding in.
"Y/N" he breathes out, unable to form words at the sight of her. She had what seemed to be some ointment on her chin, her face flushed with color, color that proved she was alive, and breathing. The image of her unmoving and pale was seared into his head. Holding her felt like everything was finally right in the world.
"Neteyam...your lips" Y/n whispers her thumb gently brushing his lower lip making him flinch at the action.
"I saw your mother" Neteyam mummers, his eyes never leaving hers. He wanted to savor every moment he had with her. Ignoring his own injuries.
"I apologized to her, I...needed to see you. She said you'd be here" he says confirming how he found her. Y/N offers a small smile, taking his hand into hers, she leads him to her mat, seating him down. She pulls out a small basket filled with herbs.
Grabbing her mortar and pestle she turns to him. He held a small smile, as he watched her work on grinding some herbs.
"Why were you looking for me. You should have been tending to your wounds." She says worriedly. He sighs out looking to his hands. "Dad wanted me to apologize for what we did. And it's not that bad, I don't feel it. Its not as bad as your brother's" he says smirking at the end.
Y/N laughs at his expense, scooping some of the mixture onto her finger. "You don't have to apologize. I think Ao'nung went to apologize to Lo'ak, at least I hope so..." she says scooting closer to the taller Na'vi. He sat up straighter catching her gaze.
"Don't worry, this is a special blend. It wont even sting" she assures as he leans in. He watches how she gets up really close, her gaze focusses on his busted lip before bringing up the mixture. Neteyam is shocked when the mixture hits his lips. It didn't sting, it had a rather cooling sensation that felt nice.
"See, it's not so bad" Y/N mummers immersed in her craft. Neteyam watches her concentration in awe. She would make for a great Tsahik, her training has been paying off. Neteyam finds himself gazing at her lips. It looks so soft, he knew this because ever since he gave her CPR he couldn't forget how her lips felt against his.
They were soft, and felt so heavenly against him, he felt himself lean closer, he wanted another taste, he wanted to feel them again but against his lips. He wanted to feel her warmth radiate against him.
"Neteyam??" Y/N calls a third time breaking his line of thought, realizing how close he's gotten he jolts back. Y/N giggles at his flushed expression. "I was asking if you felt any pain?" she asks putting her tools away, wiping her hands against a shawl.
"O-Oh yea, N-no pain at all" he confirms. He looks to her chin. "How is that? Does it hurt...I'm sorry I couldn't get there sooner" he says gesturing to her chin. She laughs shaking her head. "Don't worry about it. Thank you for coming when you did....I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't intervened." She says smiling at the Na'vi.
Sitting this close to him she felt a wave of happiness overriding the sadness she felt earlier due to Ao'nung. Neteyam smiles, his expression slowly changing to that of concern. "Y/N....why did you pass out back there...You stopped breathing" he says grabbing her hands into his. His eyes pleading for the truth.
Y/N felt herself go stiff, she couldn't tell him. This wasn't anything normal, and the last thing she would want is for Neteyam, someone she admired so much, to think she was a freak.
"Neteyam....I-"
"Y/N?" Tonowari calls walking into the Marui.
Neteyam and Y/N jump apart from one another as the chief eyes them in question. Neteyam clears his throat awkwardly.
"I was helping tend to his wounds, as a apology for what Ao'nung has done" Y/N quickly explains, Neteyam nods looking down. For some odd reason he began to sweat nervously under the chief's stare.
He nods in understanding before turning fully to his daughter. "Y/N please look for Ao'nung, I have something I need to discuss with him." Tonowari instructs as Neteyam quickly excuses himself. He offers a tiny smile towards Y/N after ushering himself out.
~~~~~~~~
~Y/N's POV~
I scurry through village looking for Ao'nung, he was no where to be found. After asking around I realize he's gone out for a swim on his Iiu with his friends. Knowing father would want to speak to him immediately I decide I should go look for him myself.
Waking into the water I let out a few clicks and chirps waiting for Atan. As I'm waiting I notice Lo'ak get on his Iiu and swim away. Seeing Atan emerge I quickly hop on his back. "Follow him" I whisper as I follow Lo'ak quietly not attracting any attention to myself.
I knew Lo'ak and his siblings have trained well and are comfortable on a Iiu, but as the chief's daughter it was my duty to make sure he does not go beyond the reef and get in trouble or worse, attract danger.
As I keep a good distance between us I recognize the rocks we eventually swim towards, it's pretty far out from shore but it's safe. It's where Ao'nung and his friends usually hung out to fish or hunt. Just as I round the corner I pull Atan to a stop hearing voices.
"What's tree boy doing here?" I hear one of the boys pipe up, I look closer to see Ao'nung, with the boys from earlier. A part of me wants to reveal my presence but another part of me wanted to see it play out. I saw Ao'nung glance between his friends.
'Please apologize you Skxawng' I think to myself hoping my brother would be the bigger man and not start a second fight.
Tumblr media
"Sorry I hit you......so many times" Lo'ak says only focused on Ao'nung, ignoring the other three boys. Ao'nung looks at him and then at the other boys before offering a smirk, motioning his hand out he gestures to Lo'ak.
"We should be friends" he says making a smile creep onto my face. It wasn't an apology but it looked like Ao'nung wanted to settle things once and for all. Watching them shake hands made me feel like they needed their time alone. Just as I'm about to tell Atan to turn around I stop in my tracks.
"Come hunting with us-" Ao'nung says with y he same smile still on his face "-outside the reef" he emphasizes making my blood run cold.
What was that idiot thinking?
"It's were the men hunt" he adds making the offer seem that much more tempting. Lo'ak pauses, thinking about the offer. "No way, I'm not allowed" he says sternly. A sigh escapes my throat, Lo'ak was being reasonable, which was a good sign.
Ao'nung shrugs his shoulders turning to his friends. Rolling his eyes playfully at the response. "I must be asking the wrong brother" he mocks causing the others to snicker at his comment. I grit my teeth, he was trying to lure Lo'ak in and by the looks of it, he was considering it.
"Lets do it" Lo'ak says accepting the weapon from Ao'nung.
"W-wai-" I try to scream, try call them back but I'm cut off by them quickly swimming off letting out screams of excitement. I look at where they were before and where I had come from, it would be too late to go back and tell father about what Ao'nung was doing. And it would be too late if they ran into trouble. Making up my mind I pat Atan's head, "Lets go" I whisper urgently.
~~~~~~~
After following them for some time I look around me my ears flattening against my head. We were at Three Brothers Rock. It was forbidden for anyone to come here, especially for children. For us.
Hunting parties would come here and they had Skimwings.
Iiu's would not be safe here. I notice the group had disappeared. They must have gone underwater. Looking at Atan I realize that if there were any predatory creatures near by, he wouldn't be able to outswim them.
I gently get off, facing my beloved Iiu. "Atan" I call his attention to me, I notice his nervous eyes wonder around the new territory.
"Go back to the village. Call Tsireya or father. Once they see you without me, they'll know its an emergency" I say sternly, he grumbles back as if in protest. "My sweet boy, I need you to do this. Please" I plead as he nuzzles into my hands. Taking that as a sign I let go, watching him swim away with urgency.
I take a deep breath diving into the water, they couldn't have gone to far away, I should be able to find them. The unfamiliar territory is unlike anything I've seen before, creatures I've yet to see are around me. I try not to marvel at it, but it was so beautiful to say the least. From the corner of my eye I catch movement.
I notice Ao'nung and his friends quietly swim away. Lo'ak was not present amongst them. Turning to where they came from I swim further into the sea. I look around frantically, where was Lo'ak? Ao'nung was with his friends, he should be safe.
But Lo'ak was nowhere to be seen. Feeling the knot in my stomach I look around frantically.
All of a sudden a chill goes down my spine. I felt my body freeze up as a colony of fish near me swim away and scatter.
Then I see it.
My vision from earlier today flashes before my eyes as I notice it swim towards the surface, attracted by something or in this case: someone.
It was a Akula.
Realizing what that meant I quickly swim forward my eyes widening when I see Lo'ak cash into the sea. I watch in horror seeing the Akula chase after his Iiu. I move my legs faster, feeling adrenaline pulse through me. If I could grab Lo'ak right now we could get out of here while the Akula is busy.
Unfortunately my prayers aren't answered as the Akula turns to Lo'ak, who rushes into the coral reefs. Just like how I saw it in my vision. It was Lo'ak who was in danger. That's why he felt so familiar.
The Akula gets aggressive, crashing into the ancient coral shattering it into pieces. All of it sudden it moved back, thrashing around. Noticing the weapon lodged in its mouth as it tried to get rid of it, I quickly swim inside the coral.
I see Lo'ak jolt at my presence. 'Lo'ak' I sign holding his shoulders, I see relief take over his fearful stare which it short lived as the Akula attacks again.
I pull Lo'ak with me deeper into the coral hoping  we could make it into a part that the Akula couldn't reach. I tug his hand as we scurry our way to a different coral reef, which looked sturdier. I look back seeing him keep up with me.
As we make it to the heart of the coral structure I look back seeing the Akula struggle to get in. Luckily it was sturdier just as I had hoped. If we could wait it out, we could make a quick swim for it. Hopefully get further away from the Akula to safety.
My happens is short lived when I notice some oxygen leave Lo'ak. His eyes widen as we lock eyes. He was running out of air. Even though they've been training long and hard, it is still tough to hold it for this long while actively swimming.
I look around me, knowing the Akula was still near by. If we tried for the surface we would be way out in the open. The Akula would get us. I see Lo'ak start to panic as I realize I have no other choice. I grab his shoulders making sure he didn't continue to panic. Panic to the point he loses more oxygen.
I look at him before signing. 'Calm down. I'll give you some air' I sign.
He looks at me confused.
Rolling my eyes I cup his face bringing him closer to me. He seems surprised at first but allows it. Seeming to relax under my touch.
'Trust me' I sign before attaching my lips on to his. I push my tongue in, prying his mouth open, which he thankfully does. I breath some air into him quickly pulling away. I ignore the way he seemed to blush, because I knew my face was equally flushed.
'I gave you enough for our swim to the surface' I sign to him. With shaky hands he signs back 'Thank you'. I nod back looking around, sensing it has been enough time I motion to Lo'ak that we should swim to the surface.
He agrees, I go first making sure it's safe. I feel Lo'ak press up against me looking around as well. I nod to him before we start are ascend. As we are half way there I feel that similar chill.
I look around seeing the Akula, swimming straight towards us. It's jaws open wide. Lo'ak notices, taking out his dagger which he held on his waist belt, he grabs my hand to keep me close to him as I wait for the inevitable.
Out of nowhere the Akula is knocked off it's course but some unseen force. The impact caused a ripple sending Lo'ak and I flying back. I feel water fill my lungs as I'm unable to hold my breath any longer. I feel myself sink, letting the water consume me. Then it clicks, I was drowning in my vision. Right before everything went black..
a/n: the long awaited chapter 2 is here! this one was especially hard to write as the animal cruelty part had me tearing up a bit. reader discretion is strongly advised for this one!~
You swore you could feel your patience running thin as it had been nearly a couple hours since these lab geeks, as you liked to refer them as, conducted physical and psychological examinations on your well-being to ensure that you were fit and healthy enough for whatever they were planning to put you through. Your annoyance didn’t go unnoticed by them either, as you never bothered to hide your reluctance when it came to another test they had you perform. They were tedious, and brought you nothing but boredom and headaches, but if you had to entertain them to even have the slightest chance of fleeing this hellhole, it would be your best bet to just suck it up and push through.
“How are you doing so far? You feeling okay?” the scientist, Thomas, questioned as he had a clipboard cradle in his arm.
“Do I have to be here for long? It feels like we’ve been at this for ages already.” you sighed as you briefly closed your eyes in exhaustion.
“Look, kid. All of this is just as hard for you as it is for everyone here. Dr. Aragon would have our heads on the chopping block if anything were to go wrong with you.” he explained, almost empathising with you.
“Not to mention we would be on Colonel Quaritch’s shit list.” one of the younger apprentices chimed in.
As the scientists continued scrambling left and right attending to you, a deep and thunderous roar travelled through the hallways outside the laboratory, almost causing the room to shake slightly. Many were startled by the noise, you included, and everyone looked at each other wondering what type of beast could have made such a deafening noise. Hence, the line of chattering ensued.
“Does anyone here have a clue as to what that was?”
“Could be one of the thanators or viperwolves that was brought out for testing, probably?”
“Now, I’ve been working with those creatures for a while, and none of them sounded like that.”
The scientists carried on with their silly debate on what made that booming roar, causing you to become an afterthought. Not that you minded really as you could use a quick break from all those tedious examinations. Out of curiosity, your feet carried you to the large window of the lab, allowing you a wide view of the hallway. Your eyes scanned it from left to right, hoping to catch a glimpse of the creature.
Something out there must have heard your silent wishes, because no longer than a matter of seconds later, a giant turquoise figure ran up to the window, causing you to fall to the floor and the scientists to flinch back from shock and horror. It stood tall and broad, with its massive palms propping itself up against the glass, the sight incredibly menacing in front of you.
Once the beast regained some of its composure, its eyes then gazed upwards, now looking through the window where it saw a sea of terrified faces, all of them cowering away and taking steps back. A deep and heavy growl escaped its throat, further terrifying the humans inside as its eye scanned the room until it made contact with one of the occupants inside.
You.
You weren’t very distant from the window, it seemed.
What an easy target.
The grizzly creature wasted no time in letting out another ear-piercing scream, followed by aggressive pounding being delivered to the thick glass. Everyone in the room was caught up in a messy havoc, scrambling around to either find hiding spots or potential weapons for self-defence.
“Everybody, try your best to stay calm! He can’t get to us! It’s a bulletproof glass window!” Thomas shouted, attempting to get the lab under control. “Our fear shouldn’t be evident! It only triggers this son of a bitch even more.”
As if time took a pause from reality, so did the punches to the window. You could see fresh blood staining the spot that got assaulted the most, a trail making its way down the glass.
But through the bloodstains, you could see a jagged line that was not there before. Taking a closer look at it, a cold shiver of fear was sent down your spine, a pit forming in your stomach and your breath hitching when you realised what you were looking at.
“G-Guys… look over there…” you whimpered as you pointed upwards.
Everyone drew their gaze towards the line in question, gasps following afterwards upon realisation.
A crack.
This was three inches of bulletproof glass, designed to withstand the strongest of any gun ammunition out there, and this colossal of a being just put a fucking crack into it.
Just how much strength was this monstrous beast possessing?
This seemed to bring a sense of sadistic joy to the creature, as a demonic toothy smirk formed on its lips, displaying the large fangs. It soon raised its bloodied hand into a tight fist again, ready to continue the abuse inflicted onto the thick glass, when suddenly, a couple of tranquilisers were shot into its upper back. The beast flinched from the short second of pain but started losing its consciousness with its eyelids growing heavy before passing out onto the cold metal lab floors.
Moments later, the sound of combat boots could be heard as a group of recom avatars came rushing in to control the situation. It took nearly took six recom soldiers to even lift the guy up, making the size of this giant man even more daunting to picture in your head. These avatars were nearly ten feet tall, and the guy they were carrying managed to dwarf their already insane height and weight.
Once the coast was clear and the atmosphere of the lab started to calm down slightly, Colonel Quaritch made his entrance to check up on his fellow subjects.
“So, what did y’all think of that performance? Like what you saw?” the colonel joked as he struck a mischievous grin.
“Yeah, it was splendid, sir. Nearly died from a couple heart attacks, but still, splendid.” one of the younger scientists replied sarcastically.
“Just what the hell happened out there? He could’ve broken the glass and your loyal test subject right here would’ve been gone in two bites from that thing.” Thomas fearfully exclaimed while gesturing to you, who was still shaking for anxiety.
“Relax now, would ya, squirt? The dude just didn’t get sedated enough the first time ‘round and woke up a little early. That’s all.” Quaritch explained exasperatedly. “I don’t see a scratch on any of y’all, and that’s all that matters.”
“Well, if you had been a second later, his violent rampage would’ve probably turned this lab into an all-you-can-eat buffet.” the slight tease from Thomas caused some chuckles to erupt.
As their conversation carried on, you moved to sat on one of the stools, hoping to calm yourself from your near-death experience earlier. You couldn’t help but feel bewildered by the appearance of that being, he wasn’t something that you had seen before, at least not from the illustrations and notes left by your late parents. He shared many similar features with the Na’vi that you were used to seeing, from the pointed ears to the broad nose and lack of eyebrows. The key differences that separated him from them were his skin colour, a light blue that matched the shallows of the ocean, his tail was broader, and his arms were shaped in a way that made them looked like fins. Build wise, he was a lot taller, bigger, and packed more muscle than other Na’vi.
“What k-kind of Na’vi was he? He looked a l-little different compared to y-you and the ones my parents were s-studying.” you stuttered out your question.
“Oh, that? His kind resides in the reefs of Pandora. Na’vis, just like humans, biologically adapt to their surroundings.” Thomas explained. “Compared to humans though, their evolutionary distinctions between each other are a lot more evident and easier to identify.”
“W-What’s going to happen to him? We’re not k-killing him, are we?”
“Haha, no, no. Well, at least not yet. We still need him around so we can… observe him a little bit.” the colonel said. “And that’s where you come in, our little lab rat!”
“And what am I supposed to do with him? He’s massive, even bigger than you are, it seems! He’s going to snap me in half as soon as he sees me.”
“Now why don’t ya just settle down for a second, ay? What do you think my team is for? Like I said, you’re one hell of an expense here on this damn ship, and we got guns to stop anything from happening to you, got it?” Quaritch reassures you sternly. “Besides, we got him chained up in the holding cell, so even if he does cause a ruckus, it won’t last long before he starts to tire out again.”
“You all are some sick bastards, huh? Just what do you plan on doing to that poor guy?”
“I’m glad you noticed, my little guinea pig. Why don’t you follow me, and I’ll show you?”
»»————- . ————-««
The walk to the holding cell wasn’t too far, but it sure as hell felt like it. Quaritch strode in front of you, guiding you to your next destination, with you following behind him, although it was a little hard to keep up with him due to his height as you required more steps to match each of his.
Both of you passed by many other laboratories that also had large and wide windows built in for you to look inside them. You saw a variety of Pandoran flora and fauna being experimented on. Just looking at them made you feel ill and your chest heavy with grief and guilt, wishing that you could take their pain and suffering away and apologise profusely for the cruelty of humanity.
But nothing made you more enraged until you walked past a window that allowed you an outside view of the ship, where you could see a gargantuan creature, twice the size of the now extinct blue whale, being held in a large drilling station. Its large mouth was propped open by heavy machinery, and you got a clear view of the roof of it.
“What’s happening to that animal?” you frantically asked as you ran up the window.
“That is what the natives call a tulkun. A somewhat similar creature to the blue whale. They’re drilling a hole through the roof of its mouth.” Quaritch replied, clearly annoyed with your sudden worry of said creature.
“What… what the actual fuck? Why are you people doing this? What do you gain from destroying everything you lay your filthy hands on!?” you screamed as tears brimmed your waterline before flowing down your cheeks.
“Jeez, when will you cease that endless whining of yours? What you need to understand is that Earth is no longer a habitable planet for humans anymore. Hunting those tulkuns allow the longevity of humans to prosper. The ‘amrita’ that’s collected from them can stop humans from aging completely. Imagine the wonders we could create, the future we could have if humans never have to worry about the inevitable end again.”
The selfishness of your kind never failed to astonish you even more than you were before. The ruthlessness and brutality of humans carried on to other extra-terrestrial life forms after the demolition of planet Earth’s countless number of beautiful creations. What was next on their list of destruction? To slaughter every single native of Pandora? Were you about to witness a mass xenocide take place sooner or later?
Before you could continue your morbid train of thought, the now disgruntled colonel grabbed you harshly by the arm, dragging you with him to the holding cell area, not paying your woeful cries any mind as you reluctantly trudged forward.
»»————- . ————-««
You soon found yourself standing in front of an empty cell. Before you could process anything, you were forcibly chucked inside, with Quaritch shutting the glass door to it and entering a code to keep you locked in, preventing any escape.
“Now, this is where you’ll be spending your nights at. You have everything you need here. We’ll bring you out for the observation exam tomorrow evening. In the meantime, why not get acquainted with your next-door neighbour?” Quaritch instructed before nodding towards the cell next to yours before walking away.
Once the colonel was out of sight, you turned your gaze to where he gestured at, and you saw the Na’vi from earlier, passed out onto the ground, curled up into a foetal position. The only barrier separating the two of you was a thick glass wall that had a few holes drilled into it to allow contact with each other. Upon closer inspection, he was shivering slightly, his face and torso were littered with cuts and bruises that weren’t there before when you first saw him. His hair, long and black with voluminous curls splayed out around his head and away from his face, giving you a clear view of his features. Your eyes then caught a glimpse of something around his neck, your stomach churned when you saw a chain attached to it, with the other end connecting to the wall. These bastards put a fucking collar and chain on this poor guy like he was some unhinged dog.
Seeing the Na’vi in this wretched state, being brought here against his will, placed in a cold and lifeless cell, not before receiving a few blows to his body, brought fresh tears to your already swollen eyes from crying so much. Your heart broke for him. He must have been incredibly frightened, being forcefully separated from his family and clan, taken here to have heinous experiments performed on him. You wondered if he had any idea of what was in store for him later. That notion easily gave you goosebumps all over as you worried about him.
You probably weren’t as subtle as you thought you were, as it seemed your sobs and sniffles alerted the sleeping Na’vi, who soon roused from his uncomfortable slumber. His eyes groggily opened and started looking around to inspect his surroundings. By the look on his face, you could sense a feeling of dread wash over him as he began to frantically touch every surface in the room, attempting to find an escape from this claustrophobic enclosure.
It didn’t take him too long for his eyes to meet yours once more. Upon the sight of you, his brows furrowed, his glare reignited the fury from earlier as he let out a seething growl. He then proceeded to pounce in your direction, ready to bash onto the glass barrier shielding you, when his chain collar put an abrupt stop to his assault. The force of the pull caused the distressed Na’vi to cough violently, as the spikes from the inside of the collar pierced his skin, drawing fresh crimson blood to flow down his neck.
Despite his ferocious attempt at ending you, you didn’t flinch back in fear this time. His actions only furthered the pain in your heart as you wailed harder at the sight of him, placing your hand onto the glass barrier, as if trying to reach out to him in solace.
This gesture of yours downright confused the Na’vi. If it wasn’t for the damn collar and the glass barrier, there was no doubt that a bloodbath would ensue. But here you were, bawling your eyes out, and not from fear, but from woe and despair which he could sense from your eyes. However, your behaviour seemed to make him grow suspicious, as he then backed away from the glass barrier and into a small corner of the cell, bringing his knees up to his chest while maintaining his glare on you.
Once you had collected yourself, you made a hasty and pathetic attempt at wiping your tears away, before glancing at him with a guilt-ridden look in your eyes. You contemplated whether to say anything to him, finding yourself to be lacking in any confidence in words. Your knowledge in his mother tongue wasn’t anywhere near fluent, but from the long and tedious lessons your parents had you sit through as a young child, you knew enough to probably say a few things in comfort, perhaps to help him in taking the edge of the tension even just a little bit. With a deep breath, you mustered up all the courage you had within and spoke your first words to him.
“If killing me could bring you peace, I hope I can grant it to you one day.”
Silence.
So quiet.
The eye contact between you two never faltered, but there was an alter in the Na’vi’s gaze as he looked at you in absolute astonishment. Hearing you speak his native tongue was something completely alien and foreign to him, as the fake Na’vis that captured him had never even spoke a lick of it. A melancholy feeling started to brew within his timid heart, an unfamiliar sensation that he had never experienced with anyone he had ever encountered before, much less a sky demon. It was almost as if he felt… remorseful for his actions from earlier. You could have said anything to ruffle his feathers even further, or perhaps rubbed his bad luck in his face, but instead, you wished to grant him a chance to kill you? Regret slowly trickled within him as he thought about what you said. But he couldn’t allow himself to fall for that so easily as it could be a trap you laid out to trick him into trusting you. Instead, he turned his back to you and laid down on the ground once more, closing his eyes in an attempt to sleep his shame away.
Upon his actions, you let out a deep sigh in dejection, looking down at your hands in your lap, wondering if you made a mistake in even saying anything to him. But his eyes didn’t hold the same ferocity from before anymore, so you could say that was a win in your book. Since the both of you were going to be seeing each other a lot more from now on, it would be best to at least get a little cordial with one another. You hope for him to be comfortable enough to trust you one day, but you knew that moment wouldn’t be in the near future for you any time soon. Looking at him once more, you wished him a silent good night then stood up to walk towards the bed before lying down on it, allowing yourself a few moments of tranquillity before drifting off to a soundless slumber.
»»————- . ————-««
You couldn’t exactly recall how you ended up in this situation, with your vision blurry and your hearing muffled. One thing was for certain, however. The surrounding air was extremely crisp, making a simple action such as breathing a gruelling task to carry out. Cold and rigid hair strands brushed against your numb cheeks, with more and more wintry frost starting to form from the wetness of your locks. Your attempts at making any sort of movement were futile, as you felt something engulf you firmly, not wanting to let you go, almost as you would cease to exist if that were to happen.
You felt your eyelids growing weaker, your heartbeat getting slower by the minute, when you felt gentle caresses against the flow of your head. The motion brought you back to a time when you were still a young child, your mother stroking your head lovingly to wake you up in the morning.
Was that what this was? Were you back in your childhood home, with your mother gently rousing you from your sweet slumber? Your eyes soon fluttered open as they met the affectionate gaze of your beloved mom. You couldn’t help but tear up at the sight of her, as you had been missing her with all your heart.
“What’s wrong, sweetheart? Why are you crying?” your mother asked, looking at you worriedly.
“Nothing, mama. I just… really missed you.” you answered back in a child-like voice, which stunned you a little.
Ah, it seemed to be a memory of some sort.
“Aww, honey. I’ve missed you, too.” your mother beamed before planting a kiss on your forehead. “But dear, it’s time for you to get up.”
“But mama, can we stay here a little bit longer?” you begged.
“No, you have to get up now.” your mother retorted, sternly this time.
“Mama, why are you-“
A tight grip onto your hair cut off your speech. You reached up to your head to pry your mother’s hand off when you locked eyes with her, which now held a hateful glare in them. This wasn’t like her at all, she had never been violent or raised your voice at you. What happened to the sweet, loving woman you grew up with?
“Get the fuck up before I make you, you lazy bitch!”
»»————- . ————-««
“Hurry and get your ass up, young lady! I don’t have time to put up with your bullshit today.” a female recom avatar exclaimed, tossing your blanket off you before dragging you harshly onto the floor of the cell.
Another recom soldier came up next to her and tossed you some fresh clothing, a towel and dental care set.
“Go freshen yourself up and be ready in thirty minutes. You’ve got a long day ahead of you.” He ordered before leaving with the female recom.
You begrudgingly stood up to your feet before picking up the items and set them on the foot of your bed, stripping yourself from your old clothing and stepping into the shower of your cell. Once the water cascaded onto your face, you allowed your sorrows to blend in with it. Of all the dreams you could be having why did it have to be that one? Was your mind so dead set on bringing you more misery than what you had been put through so far? The human brain can sometimes play really cruel jokes on someone’s psyche. You occasionally wondered whether you were losing it or not.
Stepping out of the shower with a towel wrapped around you, you made your way to the sink and began brushing your teeth. After spitting into the sink and wiping away any excess toothpaste off your lips, you splashed some cold water onto your face, giving yourself the needed jolt to start your day off with. You looked into the mirror at your tired features. The bloodshot eyes and dark circles were evidence of your restless night, and lips chapped from dehydration.
Looking behind you through the mirror, you got a view of the other cell that held the Na’vi man. You hoped to catch a glimpse of him in the morning, but you didn’t see a sign of his presence. Turning around to face the other side, you found yourself staring at an empty cell, everything in it was left untouched from last night. The only thing that was missing was the collar and chain.
Where could he have gone?
Where did they take him?
Those were the questions that you would soon find yourself regret asking.
Learning their ways
Sully family x reader part 3
Part 1: Eywas mystery
Part 2: time flies
Learning the ways of the metkayina is a struggle for you and your sibling, especially with the teachers you have
Tumblr media
Tsireya had shown your family to your new home and when you got there your father immediately started the “don’t go causing trouble” speech which you knew was directed at Lo’ak
“I want to go home” complained Tuk as she was about to cry, your mother looked at her in sympathy
“This is our home now Tuk” says Jake
“You know what your father always says right” neytiri says softly to her kids
“Sully’s stick together” you all say unenthusiastically
Your parents make you all say it more enthusiastically before you and your siblings are called by the Metkayina kids asking the five of you to swim with them
They swam much faster than you all so eventually you gave up and just started to look at the scenery with Kiri, everything underwater was so beautiful. You spent a lot of time looking at the underwater plants and all the fish that called it their homes. You had spent more time underwater than all your sibling, even Kiri who had a very strong pair of lungs, the Metkayina kids were stunned by this they didn’t think any of you were gonna be able to hold your breath for so long
As you all head back to your marui Lo’ak complains about Ao’nung and his insults te their swimming skills and you just rolled your eyes, while you didn’t like the guy having to hear your brother complain about him was even worse. Once in the marui you and Kiri had your usual talking session before bed it was something that you both had started doing when you were first adopted by the sully family, you both found it was a way to learn about each other back them and now it was just a way to talk about each others day and how you felt about it
~the next day~
Everyone was at the beach shore with some creatures in the water. You though that they we’re probably an equivalent to Ikran back home. Ao’nung said they were called ilus. You, Kiri, and Neteyam had no problem making the bond and riding the creatures… Lo’ak was a different story his ilu thrashed and turned as it moved though the water throwing him off at one point. You felt kind of bad for laughing at him but hey he was your brother you were allowed to laugh at him from time to time.
Suddenly another creature swam toward you all it was much bigger than and ilu and looked menacing. Everyone behind you had taken several steps back on
“Y/N step back please that’s is a skimwing they can be dangerous” Tsireya called out to you worried as the skimwing got closer. You did not budge at her concern, your didn’t budge when the skimwing was right in front of you. In fact you stuck your hand out and pet it the skimwing happily chirping at your affection.
Behind you the metkayina kids jaws had literally dropped at the scene infront of them, skimwing a were a warriors mount known to be fierce not cuddling and excepting of pets like this one was. Tonowari was swimming after the skimwing in hope to get it back under control and let’s just say he did not expect a 14 year old girl riding a skimwing with ease. What surprised him even more was that you were able to do this as a forest Na’vi
“Which one of the Sully kids is she” Tonowari asked his children
“That is Y/N, she is the second oldest daughter” Tsireya said still kind of surprise at what you were able to accomplish. Tonowari nodded as walked off think about how you would probably make a fine warrior in the future
As eclipse you and your siblings had some breathing lessons. While Tsireya taught you all how to breath she put her hand on Lo’aks lower stomach and says to breath from down there. His face exploded in red
“Your heart beats fast” Tsireya says to Lo’ak. You giggle slightly as you exchange knowing looks with Neteyam and Roxto. Kiri rolls her eyes and leans closer to you
“I can’t believe you gave into these foolish actions” Kiri says annoyed by the actions
“Sorry sister” you say smiling knowing that this was the way Kiri jokes around
Lo’ak stays behind to get more lesson while Kiri, Neteyam, and you went back home. Tuk came running into your arms she had missed you all during your lessons.
“What did you guys do Y/N” Tuk says trying to figure out why she wasn’t able to go with you guys to these lessons
“We just learned some breathing techniques Tuk Tuk” you saying playing with her hair
“Then why couldn’t I go with you guys” Tuk whines, her lips forming a pout
“I don’t know Tuk Tuk but do you want me to teach you?” You say in attempt to cheer up your sister
Your sister nods eagerly and you two spend part of the night showing and trying breathing technique
more ao’nung fanfics THANK YOU FOR WRITING HIM AS A SUB 😋😋😋😋 any chance you write for male readers? if not that’s fine but all i can think about is the sully’s being bullied by ao’nung and then reader coming over and being like oh so this is how you think you can act when i’m not around? yeah good luck being around me at all. leaves him and he desperately tries to find you for the next like three days before going to the sully’s and genuinely apologizing and begging for forgiveness and when he goes back to his hut you’re waiting and are like “well it took you longer than i thought, but you were still a good boy in the end. keep up this behavior and i might even let you touch me where you really want too.” before walking out of the mauri with him following after with this lovesick expression and the sully’s see and are surprised at how whipped he is. you don’t have to write it obvs i’m just word vomiting but your writing is so good THABK YOU SO MUCB AHDJDNNS
Hi babe! Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so glad you enjoy my work!
I feel so bad, genuinely the only reason why I don’t write male readers is because I have no idea how to portray it correctly so I’m not confident in that ability. However, I really want you to be able to enjoy just like everyone else as I know there are very few male reader or at least gender neutral fics out there.
I will write your request as gender neutral with they pronouns anywhere it’s needed. There will be no indication of reader’s gender. I know it’s not the same but I hope it makes up for it even a little. 💗
“Good Boy.” - Ao’nung x gn na’vi reader
wc: 1.9k
Tumblr media
Here Ao’nung went again, taking enjoyment in being nothing but a terror. It seemed no matter how many times you scolded him, he would just end up choosing a new victim to pick on.
You watched from a distance as Ao’nung relentlessly teased the Sully siblings. You couldn’t hear exactly what he was saying, but you put two and two together that it was most likely regarding their unique appearances. You sighed and shook your head to yourself- dating this man felt more like babysitting than anything else. The routine of reprimanding him, only for him to go right back to his terrible behavior was starting to feel like a chore.
You watched him and his friends gang up on the youngest son, grabbing at his tail and taking turns shoving him like one big group of jocks. “Oh hell no.” You muttered, pushing yourself off the tree you were leaning against and stalking towards him. You couldn’t sit by and watch it continue any longer. You tried to give him a chance to realize what he was doing and rectify it on his own, but clearly it was time for you to step in.
“Leave my sister alone, fish lips!” Lo’ak yelled. He had only jumped him to defend his sibling, but now he was getting the brunt of it and was terribly outnumbered.
“What are you gonna do about it, four-fingered freak?” Ao’nung smirked, not realizing why Lo’ak had suddenly started backing up once he saw you approaching at full speed. The look in your eyes was terrifying and he swore he could see steam blowing out of your ears. “Oh, you’re scared?” He laughed, taking a menacing step closer. “Gonna call for your mama?”
You stopped a few feet from them, your arms crossed and your face twisted into an unamused frown. “Ao’nung!” You yelled, tilting your head at him once he reluctantly around to look at you.
“Shit.” He grumbled, his friends scattering from the scene like mice and leaving him to deal with you on his own.
You pointed directly in front of you at the sand, knowing he wouldn’t dare challenge you due to the gravely serious look on your face. “Get here. Now.” You spoke through gritted teeth.
He sighed, dropping his head as if it would help tune out the snickers that came from the na’vi he previously had so much fun tormenting. He grudgingly walked over to you, only raising his head slightly to make eye contact.
“Correct me if I’m wrong, but I specifically remember telling you to treat them kindly. These are our guests, Ao’nung. Do you take me as some kind of joke?” You questioned, eyes narrowed.
“No…” He grumbled, his voice almost a whisper.
“Huh?” Your head turned to the side a bit and your hand cupped your ear, putting emphasis on the fact that you hadn’t quite heard him clearly and wanted him to speak up. “I’m sorry, what was that?” Before he could repeat an answer you already knew, you reached up and pinched his ear, turning on your heels and dragging him away from the others by it.
He stumbled as he tried to keep up with you, wincing more in annoyance than pain. “Ow, ow, owww!” He whined.
“Did they just… drag him by his ear? And he let them do it?” Kiri questioned, both her and Lo’ak dumbfounded while they watched the scene unfold. She shot her younger brother a short glance, her hand shooting up to silence her laugh and her arm cradling her stomach that was starting to cramp from laughing so hard.
“He’s completely wrapped around their finger. What a wuss.” Lo’ak snickered.
You finally released your grip when the both of you reached his Mauri, pushing him through the sheet of fabric that served as a doorway. He muttered something indescribable under his breath, grabbing a stool that was placed in the corner and bringing it into the center of the room. He sat down, his arms crossed and his gaze avoidant. He knew better than to look down at you when he was to be reprimanded.
“So that’s what you do when I’m not around, huh?” Your hands found their way to your hips, and he knew what was coming next. You opened your mouth to lay it on him, but a part of you hesitated. The first few times you had scolded him, he genuinely looked like he understood what he did wrong, and swore he would do better. So the fact that he was sitting in front of you like he already knew what you were going to say, aggravated you beyond belief. You brought your finger to your chin, a small smile spreading across your face at the devious idea that produced in your mind.
You simply shrugged, walking past him and heading out the doorway without another word spoken. He blinked in shock, turning around with a confused expression on his face and immediately scurrying to his feet when he realized you were leaving. “Where are you going?” He asked, following you outside, close on your heels and grabbing your wrist to stop you from going any further. He scoffed when you swatted his hand away, like he couldn’t believe you had such a reaction to him touching you.
You walked up on him, your chests nearly touching with how close you were to him. “You want to be mean? Trust me, I’ll show you mean.” You wanted to make sure he heard every word very clearly.
“Apologize to them.” Your glare was strong and unwavering as you challenged him, huffing in amusement at his failure to respond. “Okay, have it your way. Good luck tending to yourself for the next few days.” You walked away and waved him off, not even bothering to check the look on his face. You didn’t need to turn around to know you had succeeded in making him flustered once he realized what your words meant.
“Fine.” He shrugged immaturely, throwing his hands up beside his head and feigning carelessness. “I don’t need your help, I’ll be just fine on my own!” He raised his voice, yelling so you could hear him.
_________
It had been almost a week since Ao’nung had gotten to hug, kiss, or even hold your hand. Any time he so much as looked in your direction, it was like you were looking straight through him, like he were invisible. God forbid he tried to speak to you. You stared at him as if he were scum of the earth, standing firm on your decision. Half the time you would pretend like you couldn’t hear him and walk right past. He genuinely felt like he was losing his mind, he couldn’t withstand this torture any longer.
“Fuck this.” He rose to his feet, unable to fathom how you had gotten him to the point of even considering an apology, let alone acting on it. Even thinking of the word ‘apology’ was enough to make him gag.
Lo’ak and Kiri were busy indulging in a game of beach volleyball, at least that’s what their dad had told them it was called, when they saw the Metkayina boy walk over looking much less threatening than he had a few days ago. “Oh brother.” Kiri let the ball drop into the sand, hurriedly gathering her belongings as she prepared to leave. She had no intention of speaking to this knucklehead and refused to let him disturb her peace for the second time.
“Hey.” Ao’nung’s voice was unusually mellow and his stance non-threatening.
Lo’ak tilted his head with mirth, already being able to tell what this was about. “I’m guessing your handler sent you over here to apologize for the other day.” He grinned, crossing his arms and making a waft like motion in the air with his hand. “Well, go on. Let’s hear it.”
Ao’nung had done everything in his power to stop himself from growling. The only thing that allowed him to keep his composure was the constant reminder playing throughout his head— that you could play this game for as long as you wanted to and you had no intention on letting up. He cleared his throat, gearing up to sink to a level lower than he knew possible. Groveling.
“I’m sorry for picking on you and your sister. That was wrong of me, and it won’t happen again.” Ao’nung grimaced with this last part, one of his hands opening and closing a fist repeatedly to keep his temper under control. “And if you need any help figuring out your way around the island, please don’t hesitate to ask.”
The two siblings stared at each other, not shocked, but more like unnerved at the fact that he was being nice.
“Okay…” Kiri trailed off, nodding her head with uncertainty and scratching the back of her neck.
“We’re good then. Great.” He forced a tight lipped smile and it was almost scarier than his usual behavior. He started back to his hut, overhearing the two of them burst into a loud fit of laughter yet again but choosing not to care. The easy part was done, all that concerned him was having to face you.
On his way to your Mauri he focused on the words he would use to win you back over. His mind was foggy, he had so much frustration pent up that he couldn’t even think straight. His legs carried him the rest of the way without much thought.
Your ears perked up at the sound of approaching footsteps, your attention shifting from the spear you were sharpening and to the doorway of your hut. You watched Ao’nung emerge from outside and through the entrance of your home, a satisfied smirk touching your lips. You knew by the look on his face that you had won. The game was more than amusing for you, but cruel to him. You called his bluff from the beginning, knowing he would give in eventually.
He waited patiently to be invited closer and you obliged with a simple head nod. You eyed him closely and sat up in your hammock, the desperate expression almost enough to make you give in. “Sit.” You ordered, setting the weapon down and on the floor and away from you two.
Not even taking the time to think, the muscular male was sat at your feet within seconds, his head dropped low. “Please, I’ve learned my lesson. I cannot bare this any longer.” He gulped, raising his head to meet your eyes.
“Mm, it took you a little longer than I expected. I won’t lie, I’m a bit hurt.” You sighed theatrically, both your hands placed behind you to prop your body up.
“I’m sorry, ma [Y/n]. I’ll be good from now on, I promise.” He mumbled, starting to crawl towards you in hopes his punishment had been revoked. With the starved look in his eyes, you weren’t even sure if he had actually even heard the words that came out of your mouth.
“Ah ah, not yet.” You raised your leg in opposition, your foot coming in contact with his chest and stopping him dead in his tracks. “I suppose you were a good boy in the end. Maybe if you keep up this behavior, I might let you touch me where you really want to.” You purred.
He pressed his cheek against your leg and closed his eyes, placing a featherweight kiss on your skin and exhaling shakily with zero regard of how pathetic he looked right now. He hadn’t been able to so much as speak to you in days, let alone touch you. With the way his ears were pressed flat against his skull, paired with his increased heart rate simply due to your proposal, it was clear that he’d gratefully take the crumbs you were throwing to him.
Coming Of Age
Tumblr media
Neteyam x Metkayina!reader
IN WHICH you and your twin brother Ao’nung loved to tease the sully kids upon their arrival. Until you and neteyam grow to fall in love,you worry that he will choose another as his mate after doing his iknimaya.
A/N: Aged up!Neteyam of course. not edited or proofread idc
Tumblr media
You watched from the sidelines as Neteyam’s fist fastened amongst itself. His fangs were poking the inside of his soft lips harshly as the fine ends of the bone needles poked through his skin. Though the spikes were shallow, he couldn't bear the undying pain that came with it.
He was getting ready for the passing of his Iknimaya. He was receiving the first part of his tattoo, one that did not necessarily mean that he had passed his coming-of-age test. It was so far the less painful part of the tattooing, but he would only get to know that afterwards. You had already gone through the process, squeezing the poor hand of your father to the point where it paled.
You were happy for him, really. You had watched him grow into the fine Metkayina hunter that he was today. Though he was of Omatikayan origins, the clan had deemed them as one of theirs after the great war against the sky people. His partake in the
Iknimaya would only solidify this, as long as officially being able to choose the mate of his choice. A mate that he would serve his loyalty to for as long as he lives upon the lands of Pandora.
That’s what you had been worried about. It had not even been 5 months ago when the both of you had started to get closer than you already were. Before the war, when they had first arrived ; you had not been of an ounce nice to them. Your brother and you had been making them live through literal hell. Ao’nung as much like you, rough, prideful and a little bit of a bully. You two enjoyed teasing the Metkayina children, as much as it sucked to admit.
His family had just landed from their ikrans and onto the firm sandy beach of Awa’atlu, where they had been judged by your mother and clan. Nevertheless had your father given them what they had seeked for, Uturu. And for you and your brother, your father had given you the irritating responsibility of teaching the Sully kids.
Ao’nung, had taken his sweet pleasure in tourmentent the younger omatikayan children. Once it had even ended in a physical altercation, and the near death of Jake’s oldest son as he had met face to face with an akula - due to one of your brother’s amazing pranks.
You couldn’t lie when you said that teasing the darker na’vis was a fun pastime. Their reactions always managed to get the best laugh out of you, mainly the younger brother’s. He was trying too hard to be a better son for his father, a son that behaves like his perfect golden brother. You and Ao’nung had taken a pleasure in making sure that you would ruin his petty attempts at being the new perfect child amongst the sully’s.
You had noticed how your younger sister’s eyes held something particular in them whenever she would cast them towards Lo’ak. You had always been close to your little sister, although not as close as you were with your twin. She had been harsh on you that night, the night that she had confessed to you about her feelings for Jake Sully’s son. She had scolded you about your behavior, about how rude you had been treating the people who only wished for peace amongst their family.
You didn’t beg for forgiveness from your sister, because you weren’t that type of person. She knew that you would not even apologize to either her or the siblings for the way you had been acting, because being Ao’nung’s twin meant being just as much of a menace. So far about a month later, you and your sister had not spoken. You could tell that she had begun dating the Omatikaya, because they weren’t very slick. In between her loud footsteps when she snuck out at night and the longing stares, you had known it all before she could’ve even told you.
Time had passed as you had grown closer to the oldest sibling, Neteyam. He was beautiful, a pure work of art that had been moulded by Eywa herself. You had soon enough attained forgiveness from the Sully’s and had practically become best friends with their sister, Kiri. Your relationship with your sister had healed, and the one with your brother was still as strong as when you had both been birthed.
So how did you get yourself in this mess? How did you manage to fall headfirst for Jake Sully’s and Neytiri’s eldest son?
-
“You must catch me, or else it will be you that will be on babysitting duties tomorrow!” you yelled at him, swiftly making your way into the water. You dived down with so much grace that Neteyam couldn’t help but halt his movements for a moment as he observed you. You had called for your Ilu mid air, catching a ride on it as you broke through the water gates.
He quickly dived in after, with much less grace but he was still pretty much accurate with his dive. He too quickly mounted his ilu as he broke through the water. You raced through the vast ocean, grinning as Neteyam was far behind you. Soon enough, the two of you had arrived at your hidden spot, hidden away from the rest of the world.
You grinned cockily at him as he breached through the water, frowning and grumbling as he was now on babysitting duties for the newest addition of your family. Your baby brother that you loved with your entire heart, Mirime.
You had made yourself busy while he was grumbling, grabbing one of the many bioluminescent aqua flowers before you. They floated above the surface of the water and illuminated the small space that you were both in. They were simply beautiful. Your fingers moved expertly as you began weaving the flowers through your top, there were so many of them that it was kind of overwhelming.
‘Come sit here’ you signed to Neteyam by tapping at the spot beside you, and he wasted no time complying. He would do anything that you wished for him to, you were just too blind and obvious to notice. You gathered your breath shakily as you readied yourself to discourse about a topic that had been swirling through your mind recently.
“You will complete your iknimaya soon, given that you have already been chosen by your spirit brother.” you muttered, fingers fiddling nervously with a water flower besides you. Neteyam stared at you from his spot, tilting his head to the side at the pure confusion of your words.
“Once you finish it, you must choose a mate.”
“I’m i forced to?” He attempted to joke in order to ease the tension, but the lower of your ears caught him off guard. You looked sadly at the flower before you, before letting it go into the ocean.
“You don’t have to, silly.” You laughed at him slightly, bringing back that small smile upon your lips. “You will have the option to choose a mate now that you are of age,” the pause between your words and the next had made Neteyam’s heart race. You watched as the flower that you had previously released in the ocean rejoined the group of other similar flowers. Upon inspection, they were all ridiculously identical, and that was probably what Neteyam thought of you. That you were just like the others, that there was a better and more special woman out there for him.
If Tsireya was here and could hear your thoughts, she would’ve probably scolded you 10x more than she had done the last time. She was always so adamant on reminding you that you were particular, you were strong and quick-witted. Even though your brother would inherit the title of chief, she would always remind you of how special you were.
“Korzu is a good healer, she is a perfect match for a valiant hunter like you,” you joked, though your smile didn’t quite reach your eyes. The thought of Neteyam with another had really made your heart ache. You wanted him to be yours, and vice versa.
“Tiui is the best dancer in the clan, she’s the main dancer for every festival.” you informed him, as though he did not know who Tiui was. He had seen her before in a few celebrations, he had even complimented her before.
“She is a great dancer,” he said, a teasing smile on his face as he looked at the back of your head. At the sound of his words, you had never turned your head around fast. It strained your neck a little and the betrayed look on your face gave you away immediately. Your eyes burnt with jealousy and for a moment, you had really thought that Neteyam had already chosen the woman as his mate.
“She is a nice woman, you will find yourself at ease with her.” there it was, the self deprecating remark that Neteyam had wished not to hear. He knew that being with you would only bring him even more issues than him and his families had already been victims of. He knew that if he did choose you, Ronal would probably triple his duties just in spite.
The clan had accepted his family as theirs for months now, though your mother was still adamant. He knew that even if he was socially accepted, it could only take one mistake for them to get outcasted like they had been when they had first arrived.
Though he did not care about the predicaments, his heart was beating for you and you only. He only felt that soaring feeling when he was with you and Tiui definitely did not have the same effect that you had on him.
“I do not wish to be at ease, i think I’d prefer a troublesome life with an even more troublesome mate.” he finished and your beautiful aqua eyes widened at his confession. You wanted to jump in his arms, feel like the most special na’vi woman just for one night. But you knew that you could not afford it, you could not afford to see the sully family suffer more because of you. You had already been so mean to them in the past, being mated with Neteyam was like adding the final drop to the overflowing cup.
“We cannot Neteyam, you cannot. Being with me will only bring your family into more of a muddle.” you said dejectedly, looking down at your finned-hands.
“Hey, don’t say that. We can find a way, I will find a way for us to be happy together. We will run away if we must!” you could help yourself with the giggle that escaped your mouth at his wild request. If he hadn’t already made his love for you obvious before, then she surely had now. He stared into your light blue eyes before looking down at the congregation of flowers in front of the both of you.
Both of your legs were dangling in the water, the cool liquid soothing your nerves. He gazed at the similar looking flowers before his fiery yellow eyes had spotted a unique flower upon the midst of the others. Even though it held the same shape as the other flowers, its beauty had just seemed so different from the others. It shone a different colour than all the other flowers, definitely an eye catcher.
Neteyam wasted no time in grabbing the flower delicately, ripping it from its long roots that connected from the bottom of the sand. He brought it up to your face as he tucked it securely behind your ear. His concentrated look alongside his actions could only make you blush, an indigo colour overtaking your features.
“You are so special to me, yawne (beloved). I only wish to make you feel loved until my heart stops beating. Though, you must accept me first,” Neteyam softly whispered. His disgustingly sweet tone brought goosebumps riding up along your arms and the warm smile that he gave you only made it worse. He reached for his queue, bringing it to his front as your ears raised in awe.
He wasn’t pressuring you in anything. He was giving you an option. The option to love him or not to. Though to you it wasn’t an option, you had fallen madly in love with the boy for longer than you could recall. You reached for your own dark-coloured silky braid, bringing it forward as it hovered next to his.
“I can only wish to offer you the same, Neteyam.” you smiled, and without hesitating had you done the Tsaheylu. Your tendrils wrapped against each other, entangling under the soft light of the glowing flowers. Both your pupils dilated as you felt him. You felt his racked breathing and his excitement. The feeling was new to the both of you, and you loved to relish in the feeling of his heart beat. You could feel it, as well as how fast or hard it was beating.
He suddenly urged forward, dragging you in a long awaited kiss. His lips pressed against yours as he tilted his head for better access. You were currently in nirvana, on cloud 9. You could feel his love and devotion through the bond and through the passionate kiss that you both shared. Before the kiss could get anymore heated, you had pulled away to give him an adoring look before cupping his delicate face into your hand.
That night you had explored each other, becoming one before Eywa. The repercussions of your actions would come later, for now you were both just trying to bask in each other’s love and comfort
a/n: after a busy week of work, I’ve managed to finish chapter 3. so sorry this took so long, but I hope you still enjoy it nonetheless!~
»»————- . ————-««
The fresh shower you had prior did nothing to soothe the uneasiness that plagued your dark and running thoughts. Your heartbeat hastened with every pace you made in your cell, your front teeth nibbling on your thumb as you tried your hardest to stay as calm as possible, trying to convince yourself that the Na’vi was alright, that nothing too atrocious had been inflicted on him, that he would be back in his cell in no time.
“Agh! What the hell am I thinking?” you exclaimed, to no one in particular.
Of course, he wasn’t alright. There was no way he was coming out of whatever shithole these savages put him through unscathed. Just what kind of sick, twisted games were they playing with him? Were there special torture devices designed to be used on the Na’vi species? Perhaps they were trying to brainwash him extensively to the point where he loses himself in the process? Just thinking about all the possible violations he could have endured never failed to churn your stomach, as if your heart had found its way to it. Just the idea of him coming back a bloodier mess than before…
…or perhaps…
…dead.
You shook your head to rid yourself of those dreadful thoughts. Now was not the time to be fretting about an uncertain outcome. You had decided that your current goal was to get him out safely and if possible, back to his home, allowing him to return to the comfort of his family. If he had any, that was.
Your pacing was brought to an abrupt halt as you heard pounding on the door of your cell. Turning your gaze to it, Colonel Quaritch entered the room with three other recom avatars following right behind him, holding large guns in their arms.
“Well, runt, hope you had slept well last night, ‘cause you’re going to be needing that energy for what’s coming for you.” the colonel informed.
“What am I going to do?” you replied with a hint of anxiety.
“It’s simple, really. All you have to do is just observe the big guy, see what he does, maybe talk to him a bit. But our ultimate goal here is to gain his trust. You any good in Na’vi?”
“Know enough to probably scheme behind your back.”
The colonel eyes widened slightly at your retort, before chuckling lowly to himself. You glared back at him, while you never showed it, you felt a sense of pride and cockiness bloom within you, relishing in the fact that you probably hit a nerve.
However, before you could voice out another come back, the colonel charged forward and grappled you by the neck, lifting you up while applying pressure to it. It wasn’t enough to kill you, but sufficient in scaring the living crap out of you.
“Seems like this runt has gotten a little too smart with running her mouth, huh?” Quaritch commented, menace and rage lacing the tone of his voice. “Perhaps we should teach her a little lesson, let her know what happens when people back-talk. What do you think, Lyle?”
“We could start off by slicing that tongue off, that’ll get her to behave.” the recom named Lyle suggested.
“Her hair’s pretty long, perhaps we could shave her head clean” the woman from earlier chimed in.
“She’s got some pretty fingers. Hope she doesn’t mind losing a few.” another recom added.
Hearing every suggestion of torture these goons brought up filled you with a sense of apprehension and horror, making you flail in the tight grasp of the colonel. He retained his venomous glare on you as you struggled in your panicked state. You weren’t exactly regretting for saying that to him, but you did feel extremely stupid for putting yourself in dangerous situations like this one because of your bad habit of saying things before thinking them through. In that moment, the only thing that came into your mind was your father lecturing you about the importance of not being too straightforward and hasty with your words, as they could land you in scenarios that would be tricky to get out of. Oh, how you wished you had listened to him back then instead of dismissing it like it was just another one of those annoying parental naggings.
Your pride and stubbornness were going to be the death of you, so thinking to yourself that it would be wise to just drop the tough guy demeanour and start begging for forgiveness and mercy in order for your life to be spared.
“I-I-I’m s-sorry, sir! I p-promise I’ll never d-d-do it again!” you managed to cry out, while pathetically grasping at the colonel’s grip on your thin neck.
“Or we could do it the easy way, just another squeeze of my fingers and her fragile neck will snap like a twig.” Quaritch muttered sinisterly while his comrades snickered at his words.
“Please d-don’t! P-Please just let me go! I’ll do a-a-anything you s-say, sir! Anything you want, j-just please! Have mercy!”
The colonel glared at you once more before releasing his harsh grip from your neck, causing you to topple onto the ground. You ended up on all fours, gasping for air and coughing violently from the assault, bringing a hand up to your neck to soothe the throbbing ache. It was definitely going to bruise for sure if you didn’t get it treated soon.
Before you could fully compose yourself, you were forcibly pulled to stand on your weak two feet by the female recom. She laid a firm hold on your shoulders while the other recom cuffed your hands behind your back. Next thing you knew you were being rushed out of the cell with the recom’s grip still on your hands and Quaritch walking in front of you leading the way.
There was difficulty in paying attention to your steps as you stumbled a few times, but at that point, you could care less about watching where you were going. All you have in mind was what you were going to be faced with, and you were sure as hell that you weren’t going to like what you saw.
»»————- . ————-««
After what seemed like an eternity later, you were brought in front of what looked like an interrogation room, although it had a much larger interior and it lacked any tables or chairs. Looking in, you saw a group of scientists, all masked up, circling something at the far back of the room. You couldn’t quite make out what it was from where you were standing, but it didn’t seem necessary as you heard wails and cries of pain coming from inside. Your ears perked up at the noises, indicating to you that it was most likely your Na’vi cell neighbour.
The scientists soon dispersed from each other and exited the room, giving you a full view of the abuse that they inflicted on the already beaten up Na’vi. The number of bruises on his body seemed to multiply since last night. He had his hands cuffed behind him like you were, and was still being held by that spiked collar and chain, but around the lower half of his face, he adorned a titanium muzzle, possibly to keep him from biting people. Wow, they were really treating him like some rabid canine.
“Alright, let’s not waste any more time. Uncuff her and toss her inside.” Colonel Quaritch ordered, his comrades nodding at his words before doing as told.
His words barely registered in your mind before you felt yourself being hurled into the room, causing you to fall flat on the floor. You groaned in pain as you got up to your knees before turning your gaze to everyone outside the room.
“Don’t worry your little head in, squirt! He’s too fucked up to even do anything to you anyway.” said the female recom, who you came to know as Z-Dog.
“Even if he does, there’s nothing our guns can’t do.” Lyle added.
You averted your eyes from the group, resisting the urge to roll your eyes before turning to the blue man before you.
Well, it seemed the gut feeling you had earlier in the cell was unfortunately right. He was in a bloodier mess than before, and cursed yourself internally, almost blaming yourself for maybe foreseeing this horrible outcome. Perhaps if you never thought about it in the first place, you wouldn’t have had to see the sight before you.
As you scooted on your knees, you worked your way closer to him, feeling a little more confident than before although a part of you still felt nervous from being in such a close proximity to him. You reached your hand out, attempting to make contact with him, before he jolted in fright, backing away from you hastily, his back touching the cold wall. Though cowering, he still maintained his eye contact, making sure you weren’t trying anything again.
You nearly facepalmed at what you just did. Of course, he was going to be afraid of you after what the humans did with him before your arrival.
This was definitely going to be a long day for the both of you.
“S-Sorry. No harm. I’m here to help.” you spoke to him in simple Na’vi, hoping to ease him even slightly. “We have to get your hands free. Will you let me?”
The Na’vi just glared at you suspiciously, not wanting to trust you just because he understood you.
“If you stay like this forever, your hands will hurt. A lot.” you said again while gesturing to your own wrists that were slightly bruised from the stress of the cuffs.
He still chose to stay silent, backing away even more from you and turning around to face the wall behind him.
You let out a sigh in defeat. Well, there was no going anywhere from here, at least not in the current state he was in. It was apparent that he wasn’t going to be giving you his trust anytime soon. Hence, you mirrored his movements, backing away from him as well to allow him the space to collect his thoughts.
Walking up to the front of the window, you requested for the key to the handcuffs so you could unbind his wrists. The scientists were hesitant at first, but after reassuring them that you knew what you were doing, they placed the key into a small drawer that connected the outside to the room. You picked it up, went over to him but still keeping a good distance and showed him the key.
“This tool can unbind your hands.” you said as you mimicked the gesture of unlocking the cuffs. “Once you’re ready, just let me know.”
The Na’vi still refused to look at you, still facing the wall, but you took notice of his ears perking upwards, indicating that he heard you loud and clear. That action made your lips curl into a small smile as you found it quite endearing. These creatures were so easy to read.
Moving back to your spot away from him, you sat down on the floor with your legs crossed and hands on each knee. You figured it would be best to get to know him a little better since you guys were going to be stuck together for a little while.
“My name is [Y/N]. Just call for me if you wish to free your hands.” you spoke again, hoping that by giving him a name to work with, he would be more inclined to accepting your help.
“Alright, looks like you’re a natural at this, guinea pig. Why don’t we just leave you here for a bit while you continue to get friendly with ol’ Frankenstein’s monster here?” Quaritch suggested, a hint of sarcasm lacing his tone.
“That would be a good idea, sir. He would probably feel less threatened without so many eyes watching his every move. I’ll probably get him to let his guard down soon that way.” you replied.
“Well, I don’t care how you do it. Listen, once he’s on our side, get him to spill where the other tulkuns usually hang out. The demand is getting pretty high, and we’re going to need a lot more to meet our quotas.”
“…Yes, sir.” You muttered hesitantly.
“Just pressed the red alert button near the door if you need anything.” The colonel said before gathering his squad and most of the scientists to leave, leaving two of them to monitor you. One of them being Thomas.
Once they were gone, you let your head fall in shame. Why did you have to be reminded that your sole purpose of being near him was to gain intel? It became clear to you that you weren’t just a guinea pig for them to test run, you had also essentially become an undercover spy for the humankind. In the case that you did gain his trust, were you going to have to make the arduous decision to betray him at the end? To throw it back in his face like it meant nothing to you at all?
Sigh.
Why did every decision you make in your life had to be so stressful?
Why couldn’t things be a lot simpler?
Why did humans have to come here and ruin peace?
Why were you even here?
Why?
Before you knew it, the endless ‘whys’ had you dozing off into a quiet snooze, with the slight noise of snoring being emitted. You managed to curl yourself up in your spot, attempting to gain some warmth despite the cold atmosphere you were surrounded by. Not another thought came to mind as you allowed yourself to bask in some comfort.
What you didn’t realise due to your slumber, was that the Na’vi had turned around to look at your sleeping figure. While he was still terrified, he couldn’t help but be intrigued by you, especially your character. You approached him with some form of caution, almost in a non-threatening manner. You spoke to him in a gentle and soothing tone, which he found somewhat reassuring and helpful to some degree. His heart fluttered in a way it never did before when you still offered to help him, even going as far as to obtain the tool that will free him from his shackles, though he had rejected your advances in that aspect. While he felt a little overwhelmed by your zealousness, you never forced contact with him in any way. You respected his space and boundaries, never overstepping them, heck, just being within his vicinity made you feel guilty.
You were one peculiar human, that was for sure. Everyone else he encountered were vial, wicked, and downright evil. Everything that went down happened so quickly, too.
He and his friends were out hunting for the day, prepared to bring a large feast back to the clan. They ventured out a little farther than they had before, a few miles out from Three Brothers Rock. This part of the sea was not the most welcoming. The tides were a lot harsher, the winds blew stronger, and the creatures lurking were unforgiving. But on the upside, the catch here was incredibly valuable. The variety of seafood that thrived here were rare to find and were considered the best kinds within the clan. In an attempt to prove himself to be worthy as the future Olo’eyktan, he decided that he was going to bring back the best of the best, showing that he could be a great provider to his clan.
So then off he went with his friends in search of the good catch. The hunt didn’t come without come challenges, such as fighting and chasing away some other fishes trying to steal their catch, as well as hiding away from dangerous predators that they stood no chance against. But after a couple hours, they managed to catch enough to feed the entire village for a good few days.
The men were just about to head back home when all of a sudden, an unfamiliar noise was emitted from a distance. Turning themselves towards the sound, they saw a large boat speeding towards them. Aboard were a few sky demons and fake Na’vis, and they looked like they were out for blood.
It didn’t take long for the Na’vi men to realise that they were in grave danger, and had to get out of there as soon as possible. Gripping firmly onto their skimwings, they swam as quickly as they possibly could to escape.
Unfortunately for them, it seemed that the demon boat was a lot faster than they had anticipated as it caught up to them in a blink of an eye. He noticed one of the demons aimed its gun at him, and before he could register a full dodge, the bullet was shot and it hit his skimwing, killing it instantly and causing him to fall into the ocean. He wasn’t exactly safe from the bullet either as it grazed his right arm slightly.
As he swam back up to the surface, he tried calling out to his friends, hoping they were coming back to get him out of there, but as he looked around, they were nowhere to be seen. No, he couldn’t believe it. He could feel his heart shatter at the realisation that they weren’t coming back for him. How could they? He had known them since childhood, they shared every moment together, he took the blame for every time they got into trouble with his father, and this was how it ended? To think they left him to take the fall to save their own asses. Some friends they are.
Before he could fully comprehend the betrayal that he felt, a giant net was thrown onto him before it automatically engulfed him. In his frantic state, he unsheathed his hunting knife and tried to cut his way out of the entrapment. However, his attempts were proven to be futile as he was then lifted by a crane and dropped abruptly onto the boat. Several of the fake Na’vis jumped into action and restrained him, preventing him from thrashing about. The next thing he knew was a sharp pain that went through his arm and his eyelids grew heavy due to a drowsy sensation drifting him off to sleep.
The worst part about this whole ordeal was the physically and mentally brutal torture sessions that he had to endure within the ship. He had been punched, kicked, shocked, strangled, whipped, he experienced almost every act of violence under the sun. During his torment, all he could think about was his family. Would he make it out alive to see them again? What if these sky demons returned him home dead? How would his parents feel of having to bury their first-born child? What would happen with his baby sister? Who would be there to wipe her tears away due to his absence?
Would he…
…would he be able to have the chance to say goodbye?
»»————- . ————-««
His eyes snapped open as he jolted awake from his unexpected slumber. He quickly sat up straight and looked around him, only to be disappointed at the fact that he was still in the room, with his wrist bound and muzzle still attached to his face. He looked towards where you laid, and there you were, still sound asleep. It was around this time where he truly felt the discomfort that the restrictions on him brought, and he wanted nothing more than to be free from them. He almost felt bad for doing this, as he emitted some grunting noises in an attempt to get your attention. His actions alerted the two scientists monitoring the room, as they both looked up to check out what was going on.
After a few moments, you slowly but surely stirred awake from your snooze fest and was about to chew out whoever woke you up until your eyes fall on the Na’vi in front of you who was now a lot closer to you than before, his chain keeping him at least a metre away from you.
You stared at him in bewilderment and excitement, though you tried not to be too expressive about it. Had he finally let his guard down and decided to trust you? Was he finally going to accept your offer in helping him?
Okay, calm down, it was best to not get too ahead of yourself. You didn’t want to risk scaring him off again.
Before things got tense, you decided to break the awkward silence that hung in the air.
“H-Hi! It seems you’re still awake. What do you need?” you asked cheerfully.
The Na’vi didn’t respond, but gestured to his bound wrist, asking for your assistance in freeing him.
“Oh, of course! I’ll get to that in a bit. Just let me take that thing off your face first.” you got up to your knees to be eye level with him as you reached forward to grab hold the straps of the muzzle. “No biting.”
He nodded obediently at your warning as he watched you loosen the straps of the muzzle before removing it from his face and chucking it aside. Wow, he really felt he could breathe again. Next, you moved behind him and reached into your pocket for the key to his handcuffs, unlocking it and letting it drop to the floor. Once his hands were free, he brought them forward and massaged them a little to soothe the ache on them, with dark purple bruises becoming visible.
As you moved to sit yourself in front of him, your eyes drifted to his features once more now that they were closer in view. They seemed sharper than the ones of forest Na’vi’s, and every time he blinked, you noticed a secondary eyelid that would unfold after the primary one did, which reminded you of reptiles on Earth that had a similar trait. His eyes were a beautiful azure, you swore you could stare at them the whole day, but you forced yourself to snap out of it before you started creeping him out. You couldn’t help but find this man, despite being of a different species, attractive.
Wait, what?
Didn’t you hear yourself?
He was a different species.
Better to not embarrass yourself any longer.
But that wasn’t the only thing that caught you off guard. You could hardly believe your ears when you heard it escape his lips.
“[Y/N].” he said timidly, almost in a whisper-like voice.
“Yes. Yes! That’s me! [Y/N]! My name!” you responded enthusiastically, with your eyes shining brightly. Gosh, you sounded like a mother excited at her child’s first words. “What about you? Do you have one?”
The Na’vi pondered for a moment, his hands massaging each other in self-comfort, before he looked up at you and uttered,
“Ao’nung.”
