"i don't understand, we've been together for a while, we live together and we have no problems whatsoever, so what's the issue mel?" Jackson says, confused. "there isn't really an issue jack, I just, how do I put this, i haven't felt things in a while.." she says looking down embarrassed.

"What do you mean, you've felt things for me , you have feelings for me..right?" Jackson says , running a hand through his hair. "of course-" she starts but she is but off by Jackson . "so i don't see the problem?" he says, furrowing his brows. "never mind, let's go take a bath, that might relax us.." she says, putting a forced smile on her face.

Jackson was confused but he nonetheless, followed her into the bathroom .

A few hours later they both flopped down on their bed, out of breath, flushed and sweaty . "that was ... amazing" Jackson says, looking up at the ceiling. "oh- uh- yeah , totally.." Melina says .

Little did he know , he was doing it all wrong , Melina hadn't come since they started seeing each other, but she always kept her game face on, pretended she liked it and prayed that the next time would be better. She felt so frustrated, maybe it was a problem with her...?

the month of break went by agonizingly slow, but when it finally did, she had made a mental note to talk to Spence about her 'issue'.

Melina walked in BAU headquarters, her hair pinned up with a large clip, a black blouse and a grey skirt. To help her look taller she wore black heels, melina walked confidently to her cubicle and sat down. A few seconds later, JJ swung by and dropped off the files she had to put in the system, that meant her day was going to basically consist of paper work. Melina sighed but looked up when she heard. "YES! paperwork" across from her.

Spencer was smiling , he liked paperwork, it helped him separate from the cases. The day went on rather normally, she would chit chat with the other agents when she filled up her coffee mug.

Melina was calmly stacking up her files when Garcia ran up to her cubicle, glasses almost falling off of her nose and hair unruly.

"what do you think you're doing?" asked the bubbly blonde. Melina tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear before looking up at her. "packing up." she simply replied. "oh hell no, not if i can do anything about it, get up." she ordered and melina looked at her in confusion. "i said, get up, look around, you're the last one left, everyone went out to get drinks and we are joining them, come on." she said, pulling melina up.

The small brunette got up and grabbed her bag. She let out a sigh and smiled. "okay, let's go." she said, giving up. "YES OKAY? WE'RE TAKING MY CAR." penelope said, excitedly. "good, cause i took the metro to get here." melina replies as the get into the elevator and make their way to the parking lot.

The bar was crowded and noisy but the two women quickly spotted their friends and made their way to them. Melina was handed a fruity drink by JJ after she finished greeting everyone. Derek was flirting with the bartender and spencer was trying to show them a magic trick when a clearly buzzed garcia yelled. "let's play a game" she says, a giddy smile on her face. "alright, how about truth or drink?" JJ proposes and everyone agrees. "okay, i'll find us a booth and we can settle down" hotch says, loosening his tie before walking off.

After a few minutes he returns a big smile on his face. "follow me "says the dark haired agent. They arrive at a cute and sort of secluded booth and all sit down. The table was quickly filled with drinks and the game got started. "derek, if you had to go out with anyone here, who would it be?" Garcia asked him, derek smiled . "we aren't twelve anymore penny" "okay, so?" she pressed. Derek shook his head and took a shot. "pussy" melina said, looking him dead in the eye. Derek laughed it off and turned to spencer. "let's see if pretty boy here, is braver than me then.."

"okay spence, what's the kinkiest thing you've done" derek asks the boyish looking man. "uh i um.." he stutters. "come one pretty boy, spit it out." derek urges. Spencer's face was bright red and he looked down. "i've uh.. well it isn't the kinkiest but uh, i've um.. i've tied a girl up before.." he says, finally looking up. "my man." derek says, slapping him on the back, making him choke on his drink.

The night goes by flawlessly and around 11pm and her fourth drink, melina had decided that she had to talk to spencer right now, so she gets up and walks up to him. He was still trying to wow people at the bar with card tricks.

"hey spence, can i talk to you for a sec?" she says, putting a hand on his forearm. Spencer turns around and smiles. "yeah sure, what's up?" spencer replies, concerned. "no, not here, follow me." melina says, taking spencer's hand and guiding him to a more private place.

"okay, what's wrong?" spencer asks melina. She looks down embarrassed. "jackson and i have been having issues.." she starts. "oh that's terrible, what's been going on?" he adds. "well um, how do i put this,he doesn't know that when we you know.." melina says, her face turning red. "have sex?" spencer says a little too loud. "SHHHHH, yes. well um i don't finish and i don't know if it's my fault, but i don't think so cause when i do it myself it's all good. So now i'm really frustrated, our relationship is going nowhere and the shitty sex isn't helping." melina finishes, embarrassed. "maybe you should talk to him about it? you'll figure it out, and if you don't you can always talk to me."

spencer suggests and melina agrees. "yeah, maybe i should, i'll be right back." she slightly slurs as she walks out of the bar and fishes her phone out of her bag.

(start playing ain't shit by doja cat)

Melina dials jackson's number, it rings three times before he finally picks up.

j:" hey baby, why are you calling, is something wrong?" he says, feigning concern.

m:" um actually jackson, we have to talk about something.."

j:" well i'm listening."

melina drew in a deep breath.

m:"i really don't think this relationship is going to take us anywhere." she blurts out.

j:"what do you mean, everything is perfect between us, i don't see what's missing?"

m:"pleasure, that's what's missing jackson, i'm really sorry to say this but it really must be your face cause it's not your dick."

j:"wha- WHAT? are you really breaking up with me because of sex?" he said angrily.

m:" no, i'm not, i'm breaking up with you because i can't be with someone that cares more about how other people perceive us and someone who can't make me finish, i'm sorry jackson, goodbye."

and with that she hung up.

Melina sighed and walked back into the bar, this was going to be an interesting night.

The Conception and History of AtaLao

This is just a post for me to ramble on about how Ata and Lao (and Asha but he’s like 1/2 not an OC) got started as OCs and recount some of their history leading up to their roles in Under the Desert Sky. So for the one or two of you interested in reading this:

The Beginning

To talk about the start of AtaLao, I first need to talk (briefly) about Rogue One and The Lost Bladesman.

So I watched Rogue One and fell deep into Chirrut/Baze. That of course meant watching movies that Donnie Yen (DY) and Jiang Wen (JW) were in, which included The Lost Bladesman.

The Lost Bladesman was set during China’s Three Kingdoms period and starred DY as Guan Yu (GY) and JW as Cao Cao (CC). And lemme just say, in this movie (and in several other Romance of the Three Kingdoms adaptations, including at least one of the Dynasty Warriors games), CC is HELLA THIRSTY for GY. Which kicked off an interest in CC/GY and led me and two friends to evocates’ phenomenal Romance of the Three Kingdoms/The Lost Bladesman series a guide to (dis)honouring your deities which had an interesting approach to A/B/O.

Between that fic series and the many Hong Kong triad films and old “classic” HK films we watched, my friends and I ended up writing an A/B/O HK Triad AU in which CC was the head of a recently resurrected triad trying to protect/build up their home-city, while GY was one of the few good cops in a (obviously) corrupt system.

Anyways, getting to the AtaLao part...

On the left is General Zhang Liao, who acts as CC’s right-hand man in The Lost Bladesman. So naturally, he became CC’s second-in-command in our Triad AU! And look! He is, in fact, Asha! 8D Hence why I say Asha technically is and isn’t an OC LOL

As our Triad AU grew bigger, we added three “elders” to CC’s triad, people who had been important members of the triad before its collapse (due to the police) and were pulled back out of hiding when CC resurrected the triad. One of them, we decided, would be Elder (Ata) Zhang, Asha’s father. (Which was how CC also met Asha.) Elder Zhang had been The Accountant for the triad pre-collapse, knew where all the money in the triad was and went, highly trusted and held in high esteem. He was never arrested by the police, though they did pull him into interrogation once with...not great results for them. (Keeping this PG with minimal violence LOL I can talk about this another time if anyone is interested.)

I, on a whim, decided Elder Zhang’s facecast would be...

Tony Leung because it’s Tony Leung.

CC had his work cut out convincing Elder Zhang and Asha to support his bid for lead of the triad. *nods*

But what happened to Elder Zhang’s mate? Asha’s other parent? (Lao?)

(Aside: Andy Lau as his facecast because I LOVE HIM. And he and Tony Leung have SUCH AMAZING CHEMISTRY and ALL THE FODDER for me to use for inspiration, but I’ll stop myself here before I pic spam.)

WELL.

He died when Asha was about 5 or 6. He was shot and killed by the police while he and Ata were out on a date under suspicion of being a triad member. (”He has the face of a gangster,” they said.) The irony is, he is actually a normal civilian, a low-level architect, and has nothing to do with the triad other than being Ata’s husband.

Thus, by the time our AU took place, Lao hadn’t been present for...over 30 years and was only rarely referenced as a near mythical figure. (;﹏;)

So there we have the beginnings of AtaLao.

Their backstory makes me incredibly sad all the time. Especially when I think about their childhood/courtship and their dreams and plans for their future. I have lots of art drawn, content made, and thousands of words written for them so just say the word and I’ll share LOL

Proper AtaLao

What do I mean by ‘proper’ AtaLao? Well, when we were working on the Triad AU, none of the characters outside of the canon characters GY, CC, etc had names; we just abbreviated actors’ names. (Asha was just called Zhang. Ata was Elder Zhang. Lao was AL.)

Sooo that brings me back to Rogue One and....

The Ascension of the Lord of Imwe *jazz hands*

With so much inspiration material thanks to the movies DY and JW were in (and because I’m a martial arts nut), I started writing a Chirrut/Baze epic wuxia AU titled the above. It involved Chirrut inheriting the title of Lord (Baze as his right-hand / retainer), a power struggle between households to gain/hold the favor of the Emperor, and the Imwe household working to prove the murder of Chirrut’s father. (It is not posted anywhere. Don’t think it’ll ever see the light of day, but it exists. LOL)

Since the story involved such a huge cast, I thought, why not pull in Zhang to help Baze with security. And if I’m gonna bring in Zhang, I should bring in Ata and Lao! And give them a happy ending. ;u;

And as it turned out, Ata worked perfectly to serve as a parallel for Chirrut (and AtaLao for Chirrut/Baze).

(And this part, you’ll notice, I took to fill in his backstory in Under the Desert Sky.) Ata Zhang was the firstborn son of a prominent family, but he was born mute (a reference to an...incident in Triad AU) and treated poorly because of it. He would have been selected to inherit the family title, but was passed over for his “normal” younger brother. He took over the family’s bookkeeping (a reference to his role as The Accountant), and later, bowed to their wishes to an arranged marriage, from which he got Asha.

(Chirrut is the firstborn son of the Imwe family, fully expected not to inherit the title because of his originally sickly constitution and failing eyesight. To the surprise and consternation of many, he did in fact inherit the title.)

As for Lao, he was an orphan taken in by the Zhang family and initially raised to be a servant, before they switched him to security. He met Ata when they were tiny children, and he accidentally found Ata crying over the way people were treating him. Lao ended up promising to always protect Ata, and eventually becomes Ata’s personal bodyguard.

Please know there’s a LOT of PINING, and longing looks, and knowing they have feelings for each other but never acting on them, and then there’s Ata’s marriage, and baby Asha imprinting like a duckling on Lao, and-- aaaaaaaaah (　ﾟДﾟ)＜!!!!!!!!!!!

Eventually though, as I reference in Under the Desert Sky, Ata’s wife leaves, causing a scandal, and the family takes their displeasure out on Asha, which is the last straw for Ata. He takes Asha and leaves, but of course Lao goes with him. They finally work things out, and when we see them in the fic, they’re an old(ish) married couple who joined the Imwe household along with Asha to protect Ata from his younger brother, who is trying to assasinate him to secure his leadership in the family.

That is AtaLao.

And since they already were in a fic with Chirrut and Baze, I figured, why not include them in Under the Desert Sky, an actual SW divergent AU and not just something wildly AU LOL And it works out perfectly as a pseud-parallel(?) with Ata as a Guardian, Lao as a Mando vs Obi as a Jedi, Jango the Mando. d(￣◇￣)b

Other Existing Iterations of AtaLao

I will keep this brief in the form of bullet points:

Infernal Affairs AU - After watching Infernal Affairs, I had to, had to write a mash up of it and our Triad AU. In it, Ata is still an accountant for the Triad, but was planted by the police. Lao is the mole the triad places among the police. Ata and Lao have a sort of missed connection history when they meet in the fic. I do want to finish it someday because I love what I have written so far. Maybe for the zine I’m hypothetically making one day...

In addition to Triad AU, we also ended up creating an epic high fantasy/Three Kingdoms AU and made two additional variations on top of it. The Main AU involved Lao as a High Priest and healer who ends up mentoring one of the Emperors’ daughters in the healing arts, while Ata is a major in the Emperor’s army who ends up leading a lot of supernatural investigations alongside Lao.

Modern AU is a urban fantasy version of the high fantasy AUs, with everyone in similar roles, just updated for the modern age.

AAAAND THAT’S IT. I’ll do a post on AtaLao in Under the Desert Sky sometimes since I know their backstory won’t be much of a focus in the fic. :)

PS I ended up making a little diagram to make sense of the AUs that ended up popping up in what order and from what influence. Not sure it’s actually helpful to anyone but here is it:

Game of Thrones episode 3

Ok. Guys. I’m proudly announcing that Arya Stark was my fave character since episode 1 while everyone was into Jon for whom I couldn’t care less and wow. She did it. Wow.

I gotta say there’s some things I didn’t like in this episode tho.

Long battle scenes where everything happens quickly are confusing to me cause I can’t follow. I still have no idea of what happened to my boy Tormund or Pod or Gendry also cause if the scenes are at night everything is dark and even more confusing, which turns into boring af. I wasn’t even impressed in Jamie helping Brienne and their fight together cause I couldn’t tell one from another lol

Most of it all I HATE zombies. I hate zombie movies cause they’re all the same, I hate the show The Walking Dead more than any other show, and a lot of parts in this episode reminded me of it and all the zombie movies ever. And since GoT is not a zombie movie I expected white walkers to be dead walking ok, but in a kinda different way. Well. Whatever. They’re gone now. THANKS TO ARYA!

But I kinda imagined the battle would have been longer? I know there are only a few more episodes (I’m already depressed uuuughh) but I imagined that such a powerful enemy and threat would have been given more space, possibly under a light where I could see them lol. I get Cersei and the throne and politics but ugh. Weren’t the dead and uniting to fight them more important? Well. Whatever.

Anyway what about Ghost?Hope they didn’t harm good boy Ghost them f*cking zombies.

The scene where Arya tells Sansa to go to the crypts. Younger sister who really wanted to fight the dead, realizing how dangerous all this is, being worried for her big sister she coulnd’t stand when they were younger, telling that very big sister who’s also the Lady of Winterfell to go to the crypts, was amazing. Giving her the blade was amazing. Telling her to ‘stick em with the pointy end’ was f*cking amazing, she pulled a JonSnow for her big sister I love these 2 so much

I was puzzled when the red woman arrived cause I always hated her and only when she brought Jon back she was actually useful, and I was happy she said she’d be dead by dawn cause f*ck her, her tricks with fire were cool but kinda useless cause the Dothraki ended anyway? (which is sooo sad poor savage horse ppl, and there were the best of them under Dany) and I was really worried when she looked at Arya and Grey Worm like that, and the Unsullied did lose so so SO many of them (all of them? I didn’t get it and I don’t want to rewatch it hahah, I’ll see with next episode) but omg what she did with Arya was AMAZING. Arya was scared, she was losing hope there, she wasn’t giving up because she never does, but she was sorry for Beric and Melisandre told her those words of her prophecy again which was cool even tho she didn’t really get her prophecies right in the past (that b*tch) BUT when she told Arya ‘what do we say to the god of death’ like Syrio Forel I was like AAAAAAAAAH and I still am. And her death was cool. In a ‘bye bitches’ sort of way.

Arya and Clegane and Beric were cool, Clegane triggered by fire and scared only getting his shit together when Arya was in danger was soo cool I was sure he’d die but I was so happy he didn’t. Now I’m hoping he won’t die in the next episodes, he gotta kill the Mountain and keep on living, in Winterfell, where Arya is. (also Arya and Davos in the beginning, how cuuute)

LYANNA MORMONT. Can’t even say anything about her, she was so smol and brave and I was really shocked by her death, it was disturbing in a way but also very heroic and f*ck I’m so sorry she died, I really didn’t want her to. Tbh I’m more sorry about her than Jorah.

Sansa and Tyrion in the crypts. Wow. I loved their scenes. Their dialogues. “You were the best of them”...Sansa has become so badass in her own feminine polite way. And Tyrion is even deeper now.

I like Missandei a lot but her comment on Sansa’s words was uncalled for, I mean ofc she is loyal to Dany and she loves her so much cause she freed her, but from Sansa’s pov Dany nothing like that and she defends her position as a ruler. Position that Missandei disrespected tbh. Can’t say who she reminded me off but I was pissed at this character I like a lot for the first time.

Also, Sansa’s utter fear of the dead but her determination to fight anyway, along with Tyrion, to defend the people in the crypts from what I called ‘vintage dead’ resurrected from the Night King, was so powerful, her grabbing the dagger Arya gave her and Tyrion kissing her hand. Amazing. Like all Sansa’s lines and Tyrion’s here.

I’m still trying to understand what Jon did during this fight cause Dany was much more useful and she isn’t even a fighter? But girl, she picked a random sword with 2 hands and did what she had to do. Well done. In the meantime Jon screaming at dead dragon like wtf? Also, Dany’s dragon attacked by wights making kinda cutesy mouse-like verses? lol. Same for ravens, I know they sound like this for real but the crows I feed have deeper more powerful caws, I know because one was calling me for food as I was watching the episode lol. Also more bird nerd comments: when Bran warged into those ravens my thought was: poor birds they’re not nocturnal let them sleep, take an owl or smth xD

Jorah’s death was heroic and sad, but I was devastated by Theon’s. Really. I’m still sad. I knew he would die, he did too many bad things in the past, but he redeemed himself so well imo that he deserved a second chance. But this is GoT so I just knew. But his moments with Sansa in the last ep...ugh. He fought so so bravely and he died seconds before Arya arrived, how sad is this? And why not give him some Valyrian steel and even more some dragonglass? YOu know, since he was the one protecting Bran....but the plot had him dead since the beginning so.

And Bran’s last words to him, it’s like he gave him absolution for his sins, even though I so hoped he’d pull some magic knowledge or smth to spare him. But ok. I’m sad. Really. Theon was one of my faves since the start, as ‘problematic’ as he was. He was a tormented person, torn between Stark and Greyjoys, between wanting power or following those who had it, and he clearly wasn’t a leader but couldn’t accept this side of him. I’m so sorry for him. I shipped him with Sansa ok?

(ok I’m not in this for the ships but I also might ship Sansa with pretty much everyone but with Theon it was better ok??)

Anyway. “Everything u did brought u where u are now. Home” thanks Bran I’m crying. Also this is the underlying theme of this arc, he also told Jamie something similar. Amazing.

I loved the music in the ‘dead dragon destroying stuff’ part, it gave everything a sort of wooly vibe, the despair and hopelessness and imminent end that Jon and pretty much everyone else perceived were tangible. And then, AND THEN. coming from out of nowhere ARYA. ARYA with her silent swift pace and her assassin moves where she excels while everyone else attacks face to face or smth. ARYA. She was my favourite character since she was just a tomboy with a thing for fighting, the first one who stood up against a Lannister doing injustice, when Jeoffrey was attacked by Nymeria that she chased away to save her life (still can’t get over Lady’s death btw), her narrative was the most interesting and everything she obtained was with hard work and perseverance and determination, and everything brought her here to kill the night king when she ‘just’ wanted to obtain revenge for her family. Arya killing the night king was an amazing choice by the authors, if Jon had done it, it would have been so predictable, like anime main characters fighting the big boss when someone else could do it better. I loved this.

But I’m sad for Theon. But ARYA!!!

I think when you use certain words it triggers safemode like murder kill death shooting. It was happening to me on almost every single draft so I changed my words. I haven't figured out what else triggers it.
