the way the most recent pokemon games don't let you turn off the exp share or the affection mechanic bonuses is nothing short of maddening. i think they make great accessibility features If Only They Were Optional and the flavour text is cute, but i want to have a fun casual playthrough that's at least mildly challenging without having to make it a nuzlocke or something. i don't want to feed my starter bitter medicines to make her hate me :(

PLEASE....#i can't do nuzlockes i do Not have the willpower to stick to the rules and they stress me out haha#anyway i am a fool who's left all of my DS games in norway and i got a hankering for replaying sinnoh games#so i decided to get shining pearl right. figured it might be fun even if ill miss the 4th gren spritework something fierce#what ensued was a needlessly complicated process just to get a copy that was slightly cheaper than full price nintendo blood money#there's a store that listed shining pearl at a lower price. not brilliant diamond - just pearl#i feel like maybe it's by mistake since that's the price of a nintendo DS cartridge. so maybe wires got crossed#the norwegian version of the store does NOT have the price disparity.#anyway i can't order online without a swedish phone number. and the local store is out of stock#so i have several long walks to the store to get them to order it in for me and then to order it delivered to me etc#and then of course another long walk to pick up the mail BUT I HAVE IT NOW. I HAVE VIDEO GAME#and it's very nice and nostalgic with a couple quality of life upgrades#my first pokemon game was pokemon diamond. when i got it i was still learning english and had no idea what was happening at any time#good times good times#obviously no pokemon run is ever gonna be as challenging as my first ever run#it does not need to be! u can immediately tell that a lot of difficulty in earlier games is that leveling up your team was a hassle#and almost always required grinding. i do not miss that at all ! but the remakes seem to be Extremely Faithful#so they're not rly structured around how fast you can level your whole team#or that your pokemon are gonna start doing extra crits or hold on to last HP before u even get to the third gym#OH WELL#you know what's very exciting for me though. i have a misdreavous!!! they're pearl exclusive and not in platinum#ive always wanted to do a sinnoh run with a misdreavous on my team for some reason

-gets nightmares abt him really, and it didn't help the ones she usually sees in her dreams are of his younger self, when he was still a bright eyed child filled with hopes and dreams
-he'd look at her, calling out, "Cynthia..." In his soft and quiet voice, then it would shift to his older self, the one before he got trapped in the Distortion World, his glare piercing her soul, then he spoke, voice deep with sadness, "was I not worth it for you as well?"
-and before she could get to him, she's always too late, always too late to save him from Giratina's grasps, always too late to save him from that world
-she doesn't like to sleep anymore
•lowkey resents the Sinnohan people
-while yeah she should've expected the responsibilities of a Champion, she did not expect that she'd be placed on a pedestal so high up she couldn't see anyone anymore, and how they expected her to be perfect as well
-resents Palmer for not telling her, a child when she got that title from him, how grueling it really was, instead he just pat her on the shoulder, said she's gonna do great and left her alone in the Champion chambers
-she was a good Champion, but shit it broke her own mental health
-honestly doesn't want Dawn to be the next Champion, she wants Barry to be the Champion, as she thinks it's fitting for Palmer's kid, who was always so insistent he'd be a strong trainer, to be Champion and also feel the pain she felt without telling him how much the title would fuck someone up, the same way his father did to her
•reading abt history and mythology helps her cope, she loves reading abt them, loves how it shaped the culture of Sinnoh, loves learning about the past
-she knows about Volo, but doesn't like reading more about him, too many times she's been told by her family she was a spitting image of him
-and a few times she heard whispers that she might follow in his footsteps

-like, especially during meetings, which then causes the arguements between her and Lance
-honestly has too many things that runs around her mind, all that untapped grief and sadness would get to her that she'd try so hard to surpress them even more during the times she's with the others
-when she's finally alone in her own home, she'd often just lie down on her bed and stare up at the ceiling, letting her own depressive episode consume her, but shedding no tears whatsoever

nother dispatch is i forgot just HOW much gaeric is not a fan of you or your plans when you first meet. like he goes along with it bc irida asked him so niceys but he's very >:( the whole time. he doesn't like the idea of quelling avalugg when it hasn't actually done anything dangerous yet, and later irida also explains that he doesn't like the whole idea of the pearl clan engaging more with the other hisui factions, apparently having been reserved abt it "more than any of us [the pearl clan]." so that's like. another one who essentially shares calaba's position and might even be further along that line than she is. and then the actual non warden clan members doesn't seem to actually care? that much? abt frenzy quelling, or getting involved with the diamond clan and galaxy team, or any of that. they're too busy gossiping abt their leader with every stranger who wanders into their homes

Ingo’s facing his hardest fight against an evil team yet and they manage to get him to his last Pokémon. They grin, thinking they’ve won when he pulls out a pokeball that’s been collecting dust in the back of his closet or somewhere for years, kept just in case for emergencies. When he throws it no one expects literal god to come out. “Fuck em up, Arceus!” I imagine he doesn’t swear after growing up but if you remind him of his Hisui days, especially in a bad way, he sometimes will.
love that this implies that Arceus' ultimate fate is just collecting dust in the back of Ingo's closet. It's what he deserves.

Anyone remember those drawings of pokemon variants? Like lillipup based on different dog breeds, or eevee with climate-based coats, etc... I feel like they got harder to find after Alola introduced regional variants but they were the shit.
