So, because of my current ot3, and the sound-alike name of one of the characters therein (and the fact that "tart" is a fairly uncommon word in our neck of the woods), it turns out I have become a person that my friends will yell at in public:

"LOOK! TARTS! TARTS, TARTS, TARTS!!"

... causing everyone in the surrounding area to stop and stare quizzically.

(And yes, the sign is still advertising holiday tarts in June. And wishing everyone a happy new year, to boot. But at least it's a rainbow assortment of tarts, so not inappropriate for Pride. :) )

currently reading: Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice -- the show got me on a reread kick! :D Last time I read the series, there were only 4 or 5 books, so I'm looking forward to reading some new-to-me Vampire Chronicles soon, too. (I'm also 5-25% into about seven other books, and I think I'll abandon most of them. Having a lot of trouble getting hooked by new stuff at the moment.) A fanfic I am currently enjoying is "to put the world between us" (a cherik actor AU) by @x-populuxe .

current obsession: Ted Lasso, still. :) I'm tbh a bit terrified of S3, because the last time a show I was this into came out with a new season, it was Sherlock, and that was a massive disappointment for me (both in terms of canon and in terms of resulting fandom drama). But I'm nonetheless also excited for the new episodes and the new fanworks they'll hopefully inspire -- and I'm happy to be writing fic again, thanks to two seconds of inspiration from the trailer, lol. (Edit: also still obsessed about the differences between F/F, F/M, and M/M, and looking forward to posting a new chapter about dark fic & related tropes in the not too distant future.)

Nazwę wzięła od rodu, który połączył cztery gotyckie kamienice w jeden pałac. Tak widział jej wcześniejszą postać renesansowy bohater współczesnej powieści:

Wyszedłem przez bramę cmentarną, skierowałem się w prawo i wzdłuż muru cmentarnego podążyłem na Mikołajską. Na rogu ze Szpitalną i Tandetą znajdował się zruderowany dom, który czcigodni mieszczanie omijali szerokim łukiem, zwłaszcza po zmierzchu. Mieściła się tam bowiem niesławna „Gospoda Hultajska”, najgorsza spelunka w obrębie murów miejskich. Mariusz Wollny. Kacper Ryx i król alchemików. Kraków, 2012

Tandeta jest dzisiejszym Małym Rynkiem, a cmentarz zlikwidowano wkrótce po tym, jak Kamienica Lamellich zyskała swoją klasycystyczną fasadę projektu Karola Kriszkiera, którą nosi do dziś. Średniowieczna przeszłość domu przypomniała jednak o sobie w 1975 r., gdy remont odsłonił gotyckie polichromie na suficie parteru. Za to hultajów zastąpili szacowni mieszczanie, jak literat Franciszek Wężyk, który w tym domu doczekał końca swoich dni, w 1862. Kilka dekad później, na pierwszym piętrze miał swą kancelarię adwokacką Ferdynand Wilkosz. Na jego biurku częściej jednak niż akta sądowe leżały rozprawy o rybach i skorupiakach. Wilkosz, człowiek ogromnej pasji i pracowitości, został jednym z pionierów ochrony przyrody w Polsce. Jego biuro było zarazem adresem Krajowego Towarzystwa Rybackiego, któremu prezesował przez wiele lat. Tak w 1907 r. wyglądała winieta Okólnika Rybackiego, wydawanego przez KTR:

Z tego samego okresu pochodzi rysunek Franciszka Mączyńskiego, ukazujący Kamienicę Lamellich zamykającą perspektywę Małego Rynku. Może Ferdynand Wilkosz tamtego dnia oderwał się na chwilę od redagowania któregoś swego rękopisu o zakładaniu stawów lub hodowli pstrągów, podszedł do okna i zauważył artystę ze szkicownikiem?

Tymczasem na parterze toczyły się interesy handlowe. W latach 1840-1915 działała tutaj Apteka pod Barankiem, wciąż dziś istniejąca, choć już przeniesiona o kilka domów dalej. Ponad dekadę po przeprowadzce apteki, w 1926 r. do kamienicy wprowadziło się przedstawicielstwo firmy rolniczej Czyżowskich. Tak ogłaszali się w 1930 r.

Narożny lokal zajmował sklep Wojciecha Olszewskiego, który był zdania, że jakość towaru należy wspomóc jak najszerszą reklamą. Oto jego anonse z lat 1910-1925:

Jego zapraszająco otwarte wejście, szyld i drewnianą witrynę widać na fotografii z 1934 r.

Powojenne życie kamienicy utrwalił Leon Getz - oto sień i dziś już zapomniana Jadłodajnia Staromiejska w podwórzu na jego rysunkach z 1956 i 1957 r.

Named after the owners who joined four Gothic houses in one palace. That's how a Renaissance protagonist of a modern novel describes the house's earlier sight:

I exited the cemetery gate, turned right and along the cemetery wall headed toward Mikołajska St. At the corner of Szpitalna St and Fleamarket there was a ramshackle house avoided by respectable burghers, especially after dark. The reason was an infamous Rascal Tavern, the worst dive within the city walls. Mariusz Wollny. Kacper Ryx and the King of Alchemists. Kraków, 2012

The Fleamarket is todays Mały Rynek (Little Market Square) and the cemetery was dismantled soon after the Lamelli House got its Classicist facade by Karol Kriszkier it wears to this day. The house's medieval past resurfaced, though, when a renovation in 1975 revealed Gothic polychromy on a ground floor's ceiling. However, the rascals had been replaced by upright citizens, like a writer Franciszek Wężyk who lived his last years and died here, in 1862. Several decades later, a lawyer Ferdynand Wilkosz had his office on the middle floor. However, his desk was more often covered in treatises on fish and crustaceans than court files. Wilkosz, man of great passion and diligence, become one of pioneers of nature protection in Poland. His office was also the headquarter of the National Fishing Association he presided over many years.

A drawing by Franciszek Mączyński, showing the Lamelli House at the far end of Little Market Square vista, is from around the same time. Perhaps on that day Ferdynand Wilkosz took a break from editing one of his works on making fishponds or breeding trouts, walked up to the window and noticed the artist with his sketchbook?

Meanwhile, a variety of businesses were ran on the ground floor. Pharmacy under the Lamb worked here in 1840-1915. It's still alive and well, though a few houses down the street nowadays. Over ten years after it had moved out, in 1926, the official retail of the Czyżowski Plant Breeding & Agriculture House moved in.

The corner shop was taken by Wojciech Olszowski's colonial goods store. He was of a firm opinion that the quality of stock needs to be supported by advertising as broad as possible. An archival photography shows the store's doors opened invitingly, its signboard and wooden window display.
