Did you know that Cempedak, a lesser-known tropical fruit, can be hand-pollinated to ensure a bountiful harvest? 🌳🤲✨ Hand-pollinating not only increases the odds of success, but it also allows us to be more in tune with nature and its processes. 🍃🐝 The delicate act of transferring pollen from male to female flowers is a labor of love that brings us closer to the heart of this amazing fruit. 💚🌸 . . Èske w te konnen ke Cempedak, yon fwi twopikal ki pa twò popilè, ka polinize alamen pou asire yon rekòt abondan? 🌳🤲✨ Lè ou polinize alamen, ou pa sèlman ogmante chans pou siksè, men li pèmèt nou konekte plis ak lanati e pwosesis li yo. 🍃🐝 Zak delika transfere polèn soti nan flè gason al nan flè fi se yon travay lanmou ki mennen nou pi pre kè fwi sa a. 💚🌸 . . #GrownInHaiti #Cempedak #HandPollination #Haiti #Ayiti #PolineAlamen https://www.instagram.com/p/CqNj2W9uNJb/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🌳 This season, our Bilimbi tree (Averrhoa bilimbi) is flourishing like never before, and I can't wait for this first major harvest! If you haven't heard of Bilimbi, it's a close cousin to the star fruit and has its origins in Southeast Asia. Somehow, this tropical gem made its way to Haiti, and I'm grateful it did! 🌏🇭🇹 The Bilimbi fruit is not just pleasing to the eye with its vibrant green color; it's also incredibly versatile in the kitchen. The tangy flavor makes it perfect for adding zing to salads, pickles, and chutneys, while its high acidity levels make it an excellent natural alternative to vinegar! 🥗🥒 But wait, there's more! Bilimbi fruit has been used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments, from relieving coughs and colds to reducing inflammation and even controlling blood sugar levels. 🌡️💊 I'm excited to share this amazing fruit with you all, and I'll be posting a fruit tasting soon enough. Stay tuned! 💚🌳 . . Ti gou si li an fè li pafè pou ajoute zing nan salad, pikliz, ak sauce pimant, pandan nivo asidite segondè l yo fè l yon bon altènativ natirèl pou vinèg! 🥗🥒 Men, tann, gen plis! Blenblen yo te itilize nan medikaman tradisyonèl pou trete divès maladi, soti nan soulaje tous ak rim jiska diminye anflamasyon e menm kontwole nivo sik nan san. 🌡️💊 Mwen kontan pataje fwi etonan sa a avèk nou tout, epi mwen pral afiche yon video degustasyon fwi sa a byento. Rete branche! 💚🌳 . . #GrownInHaiti #BilimbiTree #AverrhoaBilimbi #Blenblen #TropicalTangyTreats #DiscoverBilimbi #TropicalFruits #TreeCucumber https://www.instagram.com/p/CqL2nm0u_CR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🌬️🌳 Nature's Power Unleashed! This once mighty tree couldn't withstand the recent gales, snapping at its roots like a twig. Our first cempedak fruit may not have survived the drought, but we're grateful for the rain that came just in time to save the rest of our young tree. 🌿 Fun fact: Did you know that the cempedak (Artocarpus integer) is a relative to jackfruit, breadnut, and breadfruit? They are all in the Artocarpus family, and like their cousins, the cempedak is a versatile fruit that can be used towards food security in Haiti. The fruit can be consumed raw or cooked, and its seeds can be boiled or roasted. The cempedak is also a great source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. 💪🍴 As climate change continues to affect our world, let's explore and utilize more sustainable food sources like the cempedak to ensure food security for all. 💚🌍 . . Premye fwi sèmpedak nou an pa t 'suviv nan sechès, men nou kontan pou lapli ki vini jis nan tan pou sove kèk flè femèl sou pye jèn nou sa a. 🌿 Fè konnen ke sèmpedak (Artocarpus integer) se yon fwi ki kapab itilize nan divès kalite manje pou ede asire sekirite manje an Ayiti. 💚🌍 . . #GrownInHaiti #ClimateAction #FoodSecurity #CempedakLove #AksyonKlima #SekiriteManje #RenmenSèmpedak https://www.instagram.com/p/CpsqCyMOG48/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🌺 Did you know that the taro plant, also known as Colocasia, produces one of the most beautiful flowers in the plant kingdom? 💜 🌿 This tropical plant is often grown for its starchy root, which is a staple food in many cultures. However, its flower is equally stunning and deserves more recognition. 🌸 The taro plant's flower is technically called an inflorescence and is composed of many small flowers arranged on a central spike called a spadix. The spadix is surrounded by a colorful leaf-like structure called a spathe, which can range in color from white to pink to purple. 🍃 Interestingly, the taro plant's flowers are thermogenic, which means they can generate their own heat! This adaptation helps to attract pollinators, particularly beetles, which are active at cooler temperatures. 🌺 Next time you see a taro plant, take a moment to appreciate the beauty of its flower! . . 🌺 Eske w te konnen ke plant malanga a, ki rele Colocasia, gen yon nan pi bèl flè nan mond lan? 💜 🌿 Plant sa a konsidere kòm yon plant alimantè pou anpil kilti. Men, flè li tou senpman bèl e merite plis rekonesans. . . #growninhaiti #taro #colocasia #flowerpower #haiti #ayiti #agroforestry #diversity #natureappreciation https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpc8EQmOGk5/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Been close to 6 months with very little to no rain in our area. All cisterns are empty and we’re back to taking long hikes to the spring but we did all we can to prepare for the day the rain finally returns. It took me some time to get the welding done on these gutter brackets (due to gas ‘shortage’) but at least they’re finally up! . . Nou gen prèke 6 mwa depi lapli tonbe nan zòn nou an. Tout sitèn yo vid epi nou tounen nan mache pou nou ale nan sous. Nou te fè tout sa nou kapab pou prepare yo pou jou a lapli a finalman retounen. Li te pran m 'kèk tan pou soude ankadreman dal la (akòz gaz' mank ') men omwen yo finalman enstale. . . #growninhaiti #gutters #rain #watercatchment #community #preparation #welding #waterislife #notcomplaining #haiti #ayiti https://www.instagram.com/p/CowvT0VuCUc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Spotted a small flock of wild spice finches (Lonchura punctulata) hanging on the young jackfruit trees. The introduction of this species in the West Indies likely resulted originally from cage birds escaping or being released, but the population on Hispaniola was most likely a range expansion from Puerto Rico. These birds were first spotted on the island in 1978 and have firmly established their residency since. . . . . #growninhaiti #biodiversity #wildlife #nurtureyournature #naturephotography #nutmegmannekin #lonchurapunctulata #haiti #ayiti #regenerativefoodsystems #agroforestry https://www.instagram.com/p/Cock1BlOMYj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Did you know that hanging tomato plants upside down not only frees up more ground space but also avoids most pest like snails and slugs. A companion plant can also be planted topside to maximize space and benefits. Hanging upside down also bemeans there's no need for staking and good air flow means that soil borne diseases are also reduced. . . Èske w te konnen ke Lè’w pandye plant tomat yo tèt anba non sèlman libere plis espas, men tou evite pifò ensèk nuizib tankou kalmason.
