I know most Eurasian wolves tend to generally have the same colors and markings but I think it's neat that there's still quite a bit of variation in them.
Prime example I'm thinking of is Rhodes, the wolf from the WCA who I adopted for a year back in 2014 when visiting them! He has this unique dark face and neck that isn't usually present in Eurasian wolves. On the lower photo, you see him compared to his mate Angelina (who has the average Eurasian wolf colors and markings).
He and Angelina are actually the parents of a lot of the WCA's Euraisan wolves around the time, though nowadays sadly at least one of them has passed on since then with them also getting older. Two of their pups are Hannah and Pjotr, the WCA's ambassador wolves with whom the public can interact. None of his pups would end up inheriting Rhodes' dark mask, but rather they closely resemble their mother.
Rhodes sadly ended up passing away not too long ago at the age of thirteen. I still think he was a really cool dude and I'm glad to have seen him personally and adopted him for a while.

Reading a book on human-caused (almost) extinctions like the baiji and Barbary lion and thylacine and while stuff like this generally angers me the chapter on American bison especially has me fuming. This wasn't "just" another almost-extinction, this was also an active genocide against the Native Americans.
Of the original 30 million bison only 20000 remain which are also at risk of inbreeding. That's less than 0.1 percent

For the questions thing.. what's your like all time favourite animal ever
This is a very hard question because for favorites I'm like... Very categorybrained as in (reptiles, birds, bugs etc)
But thinking really hardddd.I think. I'd put arthropods and bird at the top.
I actually REALLY!! Really like Remipedes but isopods might surpass them by a bit. I hvae a giant isopod plushie. Love picking them up. One day I want to go to Monterey Bay Aquarium to touch one of the Big Guys...
However I think birds deserve a spot here because I also love them for different reasons. For a more classic one I'm absolutely enamoured by Columbidae, generally prefer doves. I raised a sick collared dove once and it was SO AWESOME. Also big fan of birds of prey (if it wasn't obvious) though I wouldn't choose a specific species... They all have their charm, on that note I prefer Old World vultures rather than New World (King Vulture would be the exception I think). Very needed honorable mention to cuculidae specially Anis. I love Anis they look like dinosaurs. Honorary mention corvids.
That said I think one of my all time favorite birds ever are probably ptarmigans. Favoring Rock ptarmys but all 3 win. The combination of their stupidly round appearance and staggeringly unexpected vocalizations is what does it for me.
OK I KNOW you asked for just one but ! I needed to visualize my tier list here. I think the final winners would be Ptarmy and Giant Isopod probably

ok so listen imma tell you about this damn goat that i learned from a tumblr post that circulated years ago that i swear was just a shitpost until i looked it up and it turned out BETTER than what the post was advertising!

seriously this thing is up there in terms of my all time favorite animals such as the hartebeest and the spaghetti squid [or magnapinna squid if you want to be pedantic lol]
SO
mytoragus are a genus of extinct goat-antelopes that used to live on the Balearic Islands till about 4500 or so years ago that had about six species attributed to it. One of which is the magnificent M.balearicus who was known for being just the greatest thing to ever come out of the primordial soup in my opinion:
just look how cute he is!!
Anyways these particular little dudes apparently were funkier than anyone else on their family tree due to the fact that they weren't all that great at jumping [if they even could at all thanks to those inelastic ligaments wrapped around their feet] and pretty much only shuffled about as they went about their day snacking on boxwood.
Not to mention that their sense of sight, smell and hearing weren't all that great either. But it was cool bc there wasn't really anything snacking on these guys anyway to warrant such unnecessary senses.
They grew slowly, managing to get to an estimated 50cm tall at the shoulder [that's like...less than a border collie in some instances lol such a tiny lad!]
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!
because of this kind of slow growth [or maybe not idk im not a scientist] it is theorized that it adapted its metabolism in response to changing environmental factors such as food and water availability and temperature changes [hence the theoretical cold blooded nature of this beast]!
but that's probably not what you're here for right? You're probably curious to see if there is anything that could help you visualize this majestic beast outside a picture of a skeleton

Quite a few wolf media seem to favor unique coat colors for their significant wolves (e.g. black, white, silver, reddish) but my fave wolf color is and always will be just the standard gray-brown agouti.

Never gonna get over how the anime made this scene just so,, haunting and elevated. Like I love the manga but I love how the anime has taken these scenes and elevated the themes of death and rebirth with simple shots like this and it’s why even after reading all of the manga I still get excited for the anime because I *know* the anime will not only be a faithful adaptation, but also an artistic masterpiece as it uses the medium to its advantage
