alec and ellie:

They're your classic workplace enemies to lovers. Alec takes the job that Ellie was meant for, they're forced to work together on a devastating murder case, they bond. Over three series Alec becomes more human and lets his walls down around Ellie, and she begins to respect and trust him as a colleague and as a friend. Its a Big Deal when they hug. In most cases, especially when it's an m/f detective duo, they would end up together. But yet. Thee David Tennant and Olivia Coleman did not even have an aborted kiss or feelings confession. Neither of them end up with anyone else but they don't hint at anything at the end either. Queer Ally of all time David Tennant does straightbait ironically.

oscar and andre:

Okay, so this might sound kind of weird but bear with me because I really think they should count. Oscar was afab but her father gave her a boy's name and raised her as a boy (by 18th century standards) because sexism and he had 5 daughters and decided she was going to be a son because they were a noble family and he wanted a son to become a high ranking military official because they're rich so they can just do that. Oscar joins the army and becomes Marie-Antoinette's personal guard. Her and childhood best friend Andre are very close through out the series (he supports her throughout the many scandals that she has to deal with because she works for the royal family) and at the end of the series it is revealed that they are in love, but they are both killed in the war before they can actually get together. The dying before they can be together might fall into the buried straights category but they relationship also has really queer energy because throughout the series it becomes apparent that Oscar usually Does Not Vibe with only the gender she assigned at birth. She sometimes refers to herself as a woman, sometimes refers to herself as a man, but her attitude is usually basically 'I'm a man, I'm a woman, I'm both, I'm neither, stop asking'. So I think they should count as straightbait because we find out that Oscar is nonbinary and Andre loves her no matter what her gender is (and then they die before they can get together).

The woman is the colonel in chief of the army, head of the armed forces, and decides that being a mother to a son who has put himself in this position by his own choices goes before that incredible important role.

We will not hear anything about a new Captain General of the Royal Marines or a new Colonel if the Grenadier Guards during her lifetime, mark my words.

I'm not a mother so I can't understand the motherly love she feels for Andres and her desire to protect him, I suppose, but I do know that she has a responsibility and a duty and that her motherly love should not get in the way of that. Didn't she make a promise about that? One that many love to mention all the time?

Andres is in the situation he is in because of his actions. He is not a little boy who needs his parents to take care of his problems but the queen never understood that. She never cut the umbilical cord.

It is ironic that the last two royal spares are the ones who have given the most headaches and received the most concessions from the queen. In the end Andres and Enrique are alike in more ways than one, I imagine that's why they get on so well and are so close.

We can only hope that Charlotte, or rather Louis, will be different.

Sam Welsford fejrer sin fødselsdag med etapesejr

Kun den sjette etape af Tours i Australien er ikke startet, og de andre fem etaper er afsluttet. Det, der er af stor betydning for Sam Welsford, er fjerde etape. Han fejrede sin fødselsdag med etapesejren. Først da Sam Welsfords Billigt Cykeltøj dukkede op på målstregen, troede han, at han havde vundet etapen.

Bora–Hansgrohes Sam Welsford har vundet tre etaper af Tours i Australien, og han er meget glad. Mange mennesker tilbringer deres fødselsdage forskellige steder, men chaufføren Sam Welsford tilbragte sin fødselsdag i et løb. Han mener, at hans fødselsdag i 2024-sæsonen er fuld af mening og held og lykke i år. Fjerde etape er den fladeste etape af Tours i Australien, som er særligt velegnet til sprinterryttere. Der er kun én stigning på hele etapen, hvilket er godt nyt for alle ryttere. Det er trods alt kun bestigningen af Tour of Spain-etapen, der er i top, og rytterne er meget anstrengende efter at have gennemført en etape. Jo tættere feltet er på målstregen, starter holdene foran deres egne strategier. Bora-Hansgrohe har tre kørere med en fordel, som vil give andre hold mulighed for at tage et strengt forsvar mod dem.

Bora-Hansgrohes tremandstaktik var at lade Sam Welsford fuldføre spurten, men Ineos Grenadiers position forhindrede deres taktik i at lykkes. Fans er opmærksomme på Bora-Hansgrohe Cykeltrøje, som giver dem mulighed for tydeligt at se, hvad køreren laver. Danny van poppel fra Bora–Hansgrohe skyndte sig ikke at angribe efter at have taget føringen, han var nødt til at vente på Sam Welsford bag sig. De sidste 200 meter gav Sam Welsford en chance, og han greb chancen til at kæmpe tilbage og vinde etapen igen.

Andre says something like “slow down grandma!” then it cuts to the grandma dramatically falling out of her chair. AND I CAN’T FIND THE DING DANG POST AGAIN

what's your policy on ties?

only a perfect 50/50 counts as a tie. if one bait is even .1% higher than another, they win. i did this because i thought it would be funny and i also want to avoid tiebreaker rounds as much as possible

do you reblog propaganda?

yes! you are free to tag me in propaganda or to send it as an ask, although i will probably not reblog/respond to anti-propaganda. (you're free to make it or tag me though, it'll probably make me laugh)

what are you counting as straightbait?

the definition of straightbait in this tournament is intentionally very loose, and the poll question is also vague on purpose (is it celebratory or derogatory? who knows). i've accepted submissions with more obvious examples of "straightbait", such as cases where m/f couples are teased but never get together or are revealed to be queer. however, i've also accepted couples where they have some kind of weird fucking thing going on that could be interpreted a number of ways but isn't straightforward canonical m/f romance, "buried straights" who die after romance is confirmed, and a number of other things. i go more into this tournament's definition of straightbait here and here.

why is this couple in the tournament if they get together canonically?

see above. in most cases where this question comes up, we're talking about buried straights. if the characters in question are queer, it is straightbait at least partially by virtue of those characters not being straight. and if neither of the above, the answer you are looking for will be in the propaganda.

you're free to argue about the validity of a straightbait in the tags, amongst yourselves, or in propaganda, but please don't come to me about whether a bait should or shouldn't be in the tournament. their inclusion on this blog + submitted propaganda speaks for itself

what is The Policy?

sometimes i rb propaganda posts that i tag with #as per The Policy. the policy says that any time i encounter a post on my dash that is related to one of the pairs in this tournament such that it could be used as propaganda, i have to reblog it.

how were the matchups decided?

i sorted all my submissions into popularity tiers, then randomized matchups within each tier, so characters were matched up with others with equal or similar popularity to the best of my ability. tiers were based on how many submissions a pair received and how well they did in the singles tournament. there were five or six tiers in total, although it's been long enough since i made the bracket that i do not remember the exact number

what is the singles tournament?

the singles tournament was a preliminary tournament that i ran for every pairing or character that was only submitted once, hence "singles". i only automatically qualified straightbaits with more than one submission, so i did this to allow more submissions to enter the main tournament. also a chance to see your blorbo in a poll at least once, even if they didn't qualify

what should i do if you've gotten something wrong?

send me an ask or a message, or leave me a comment! if you send an ask, please specify if you want me to answer it privately, as i will answer publicly by default. although be advised if i've made a typo in a poll option or poll title, i cannot edit it

what should i call you?

Thomas Pidcock har en racerånd

Thomas Pidcocks rejse ind i cyclocross kan være udfordrende, og han har bestemt haft lidt uheld. Thomas Pidcock fik et styrt lige efter løbets start, og hans røde Billigt Cykeltøj og røde cykel blev i fokus. Styret på cyklen var knækket, og transmissionen blev også beskadiget, hvilket gjorde Thomas Pidcock ude af stand til at bruge den.

Thomas Pidcock kiggede på den ubrugelige cykel. Han kiggede frem og så, at hans modstandere allerede havde trukket sig. Thomas Pidcock er i meget dårligt humør på nuværende tidspunkt, og han håber ikke, at sæsonen 2024 ikke går glat. De fremmødte ryttere kørte alle allerede i løbet, med Thomas Pidcock på sidstepladsen. Han kunne kun tage sin cykel op og løbe frem. Hans mål var Ineos Grenadiers skiftende område. Det, der gør Thomas Pidcock glad, er, at han skiftede cykel ikke langt fra udgangspunktet. Han kunne mindske kløften ved at skifte cykel så hurtigt som muligt. Thomas Pidcock har været ramt af styrt i to på hinanden følgende løb, og han føler sig virkelig hjælpeløs over ulykken. Støttepersonalet i skifteområdet så Ineos Grenadiers-Dame Cykeltøj og den cykel, de havde klargjort før tid, på siden af banen til Thomas Pidcock.

Løb er en simpel ting for mange mennesker, men løb er smertefuldt for professionelle ryttere. Det, de har på deres fødder, er låsesko, der kræves til konkurrence. Sådanne sko er ikke befordrende for rytterne, der løber i konkurrencen. Selvom Thomas Pidcock og de andre kørere ikke var i stand til at tilpasse sig ulykken, ønskede de alle at fuldføre hele løbet. Thomas Pidcock er en kører med racerånd, og han modtog også klapsalver fra fansene.
